President Barack Obama used Friday's new jobs report showing that the unemployment rate had fallen below 8 percent to warn voters in battleground Virginia against electing Mitt Romney as president.
The monthly jobs survey issued this morning by the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that the economy added 114,000 jobs in September, and that the economy added 86,000 more jobs in July and August than had been initially estimated. Most significantly, the unemployment rate fell from 8.1 percent in August to 7.8 percent last month -- the lowest point since Obama first took office.
"This morning, we found out that the unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest level since I took office," the president said at a campaign rally in northern Virginia.
White House Senior Advisor David Plouffe reacts to the new job numbers and some Democratic dismay over Denver's debate.
The new economic data was welcome news for Obama, whose performance in Wednesday's presidential debate prompted hand-wringing from Democrats, who said the president wasn't aggressive enough versus Romney. Friday's data offered Obama an opportunity to play offense on the issue of the economy, the No. 1 issue in the election and a topic on which he often plays defense versus Romney.
"Today's news certainly is not an excuse to try to talk down the economy to score a few political points. It's a reminder that this country has come too far to turn back now," Obama said. "I can't allow that to happen. I won't allow that to happen, and that is why I'm running for a second term as president of the United States."
Days after the first presidential debate, Obama supporters say the president was surprised and that he will likely review the debate tape to prep for the next two. They also called Romney's comments during the debate, "dishonest." Meanwhile, PBS's Big Bird stopped by Saturday Night Live to discuss his newfound fame, courtesy of the Republican nominee. NBC's Kristen Welker reports.

The report was politically significant in that, for the first time, the unemployment rate fell below 8 percent -- an important psychological barrier, especially since Romney has made frequent reference to the tally of months during which the jobless rate has been above that threshold.

President Barack Obama waves during a campaign event on October 5, 2012 at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
Romney has made the anemic economic recovery his primary argument in prosecuting the case against Obama. He said the only reason that the unemployment rate had declined was due to people dropping out of the workforce.
"There were fewer new jobs created this month than last month," Romney said while campaigning Friday in Virginia.
"The reason it's come down this year is primarily due to the fact that more and more people have stopped looking for work," added the Republican presidential hopeful. He argued that while it "looks like unemployement is getting better," the real jobless rate would be closer to 11 percent if the workforce hadn't shrunk during Obama's time in office.
The BLS report was the penultimate monthly update on the U.S. employment situation before the election. The jagged rate of recovery has caused heartburn for Obama in his bid for re-election -- particularly some disappointing reports in the late spring -- offered Romney ammunition to use against the president.
NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro discuss whether or not a positive jobs report will boost President Obama after a disappointing debate.
In those months, Obama saw public opinion toward the state of the economy and his management of it sour to a degree in public polling.
It has also been growing confidence in the economy that helped contribute to the president's advantage over Romney in late summer and through September.
Forty-four percent of voters said in the most recent NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll that they believed the economy would improve over the next year, improved from 27 percent of voters who expressed such an opinion in the July edition of the poll.
The Obama campaign has also sought to erode Romney's advantage on the economy with rounds of blistering ads questioning the Republican nominee's experience in private equity, and how Romney manages his own personal wealth.
But Romney still held an edge over Obama in this week's NBC-WSJ poll. Forty-five percent of voters said they thought Romney would better manage the economy, versus 42 percent who said the same of Obama.

Mitt will hurt job growth with his tax plan to reduce taxes for the rich, benefitting himself.
My question is - how can anyone run for president to just reduce his own taxes????
ObaMagnificent -

the first debate - one step back for Obama (2 days ago)
the job data - a giant leap forward for the President (today)

Obama is Magnificent
Best line of the day so far from President Obama; "My opponent got an extreme make-over"! lmao!
And, before we start with the "cooked books" conspiracy theory from the paranoid right wingers...
PROVE IT!
Only a fool like Romney believes his own delusions. What else does stupid fool believe? Wait he believes he'll be president.

Obama: Jobs report shows economy is on right track
Yea more people have quit looking for work so the rate goes down and that's good news???
Yup the country is headed in the right diredtion.... sure... ok... anything
to get electedyou say...That's just pathetic!!
@Pigotry: RE: running for office to lower their own taxes
happens all the time. Had a little piece of news here in nebraska that came out last night where the Republican candidate for Senate had a few pieces of legislation that she promoted that would have helped her out in a land dispute with some other citizens who ended up selling their land to the games and parks commission. The facts are that politicians at all levels of the government are using their offices to promote growth of their own portfolio and bank accounts.
and lets drop the hyperbole about ObaMagnificient. President Obama is a good president, but he isn't the second coming of christ for gods sake (the poll i saw ranked Obama 14th out of 44 presidents after his first 3 years in office, which is much better than his predecessor who was in the bottom 10). He is certainly much better than his republican counterpart, but the hyperbole is getting far too absurd.
@MP
not cooked. The rate dropped due to the uptick in prior months that were reported incorrectly according to NPR this morning. i know you'll just have some other excuse that fits the cognative dissonance you are having after all your propaganda about this President being the worst since Hoover and all, but the facts continue to show that we are on the slow path of growth, and considering the stall that hangs over the rest of the world on the global economy, this should be a sign of good things for our country. we are all americans after all, not just republicans independents and democrats...
This 7.8% jobless rate has clearly rattled the right. It clearly sucked the air out of whatever good night they thought they had. They've got no answer to this new rate and will never. "Sweet Jesus" 7.8% is just too good. Common guys, Obama policies are working..........YES they are working.
GOP and Mitt should keep up with the claim of some kind of govt. conspiracy data nonsense as reasons for improved job rate and I wish they do cause it will bury them.

FORWARD...
Every time Romney said he was going to increase jobs by 12 million if he was President I kept waiting for him to explain that the CBO is projecting that - no matter what! Funny how he plans to take credit for what appears to be an expected increase.
Romney has no clue and - as evidenced by the debate - no plans.
Obama/Biden 2012
Maxx,
People quit looking for work ...
Actually that is incorrect for the September labor report.
http://www.bls.gov/news.release/metro.toc.htm
Mitt might know how to make money in the private sector, but he does not know how to create jobs in the public sector.
He had only mediocre success creating jobs in Massachusetts ranking 43 rd in job growth and 50th in median wage growth in his first 2.5 years according to nonpartisan Mass Budget and Policy Center in its Sept. 3, 2006 report. In fact, they called it the slowest job recovery in Massachusetts history. By the way, Massachusetts lost 200,000 jobs in 2001 Recession so they were not near full employment as some have claimed.
Romney's plans for America's economic growth are essentially more of the same tried and failed Bush policies of trickle down (supply side) economics.
OBAMA 2012......For America's future prosperity.
Seems to me every time we get a good jobs report and the unemployment goes down, there is less and less reason to want to convert to Romney-omics. Isn't his entire message "I know how to create jobs"? Lowering taxes by 20% on the big earners isn't really necessary any more, is it? Unless you want to devastate social programs or blow up the deficit even worse than it already is, there just isn't any reason to vote for Romney. Until he specifies how he will offset the $8 Trillion he is going to add to the deficit, other than firing Big Bird, he has no credibility. Running for president on secret policies really shouldn't work, especially when the guy in office has presided over 5 trillion new jobs over 31 consecutive months of private sector economic growth.
Now the Supreme court is trying to make it ILLEGAL to resell your own Belongings, when will you people finally face the fact that our government is CORRUPT? http://www.marketwatch.com/story/your-right-to-resell-your-own-stuff-is-in-peril-2012-10-04?dist=countdown
It does not matter who gets elected.
When numbers like this come out, it is clear that the President has played his hand well. Slow and steady wins the race. I have to say VA-VA-Voom.
His opponent has to be choking as he watches a steady approach destroying his trickle-down theory. I have to say, VO-VO-VOMITT!
A total debunked LIE. More people are looking for and finding work.
Romney has no clue and - as evidenced by the debate - no plans.
Isn't plan to steal the presidential election and ship jobs offshore?
Obama/Biden 2012
Good news means bad news for Mitt.
You honestly believe your own crap dude?
F6Zman - you DO know the Supreme Court doesn't make these cases up, right? These are cases that are BROUGHT TO THEM as a final recourse. They aren't reaching out to try to make as many decisions as possible. The original manufacturers brought this suit to them as a last resort. The Supreme Court isn't TRYING to make anything illegal. They are acting on cases brought before them. Grow UP.
Job1 - and there are thousands of jobs out there that we don't have people qualified to fill. President Obama's jobs training bill would help people qualify to fill those jobs.
Obama/Biden 2012
F6Zman, whaaaaa?
Dude, did you stumble and fall into the wrong debate again? :)
SeekingSanity
he will pull 12 million jobs out of his a$$. That's why he walks funny. He's been accumulating them for 20 years now and they're starting to feel uncomfortable up there. That's the Romney Job Plan.
If the books were being cooked, wouldn't you think that they would over report the number of jobs each month then later do a downward revision of the jobs being created? The exact opposit of that has happened, with the monthly reports always being less than what the final revisions turn out to be.
@SeekingSanity Yes, but %90 of cases like this get passes.
@Jeff-1592116 Well, trying to talk to Liberals about real things is IMPOSSIBLE, Liberals are Sociopaths and Morons.
Romney vs. Reality:
Romney: "I don't have a $5 trillion tax cut:
Reality: "Romney has proposed cutting taxes by 20% - which would in and of itself cut tax revenue by $5 trillion: - The New York Times
Romney: "Lower marginal tax rates secure for all Americans the economic gains from tax reform. Make permanent, across-the-board 20% marginal tax rates" - Romney Campaign Website
Reality: "Romney says he will pay for $5 trillion tax cut without raising deficit or raising taxes on the middle class. Experts say that's not possible - Factcheck.org
Romney: "I will not under any circumstances raise taxes on middle-income families. I will lower taxes on middle income families. Now, you cite a study. There are six studies that looked at the study you describe and say it's completely wrong."
Reality: "Romney has countered that "six other studies" have found that the plan can be revenue neutral...Those studies actually do not provide much evidence that Romney's proposal, as sketchy as it is, would be revenue neutral without making unrealistic assumptions". - Washington Post
Well, I am not saying the world is going to end but there have been over 7000 earthquakes in the past 30 days and there are 66 Volcanoes going off at different stages right now.
Since I am having a good day, I will give wing to a perhaps not so crazy idea. Romney claimed all the rope ... to hang himself.
Four years to reduce unemployment from 8% to 7.9%. Wow, Obama is a genius! 40 more years of Obama and we might get it down to 7%.
F6Zman - 90% of these cases get passes?? What the H*ll does that mean????
bayllie - I have to remember not to read your posts with coffee in my mouth. The clean up is murder! Great one!!!

The right wing calculator doesn't work. Don't you know that yet? They seem to get -14 when adding 2+2

*sniff, sniff* Here's a hanky dude. :(
Rate is down, not much but it's still down. That's not spin, you on the other hand have got to be getting dizzy by now. :)
Spin this liberals...
43 months 8%+ unemployment
1 month <8% unemployment
Since it was over 10% at one time?
Since when has the cup filling up become spilled milk? :D
[Spin this liberals...
43 months 8%+ unemployment
1 month <8% unemployment]
SWEET JESUS! Well lookie here...isn't this the pot calling the kettle black...what an 'effing hypocrite.
Dude, you should be thanking the president...maybe NOW you'll finally secure gainful employment. Remember, Republicans think you're a freeloader.
Brianb - and you should be complaining to the Republicans in Congress who were determined to keep unemployment high. I'm sure you're screaming and writing letters to them every day, right? I'm sure you're asking them why they would pledge an oath in writing to Grover Norquist instead of working on the agenda for the country, right?
I'm sure you're campaigning against them so they won't continue to be obstructionists, right? I'm sure you're out their campaigning for congressmen who will work for the country no matter what and not for Grover Norquist, right?
No? Then shut the H*LL up!!!!

Mickey, NY - You also forgot to mention that Romney's '6 studies' are made up of 5 of which are from Romney campaign staffers, and the other, from a Princeton professor who was a former Bush chairman.
Unbiased? Amazes me what Romney vomits out of his mouth.

Considering the source, I am going to take that as a compliment. Also, you might want to see if you can hunker down in Mitten's bunker. Being the good Mormon boy that he is, I'm sure he's got his two year food supply ready and he'd probably love to share with a supporter such as yourself.

I know, I know... Obama finally did something about unemployment being over 8% What he did is anyone's guess... No policy changes, no legislation, no budget, no visible anything... but it happened.. must be magic.

Romney now claims his 20% tax rate cut will be revenue neutral and will be paid for by eliminating or reducing deductions. He said this when challenged on it by the President at debate.
Reducing home mortgage deduction at this time will hurt the housing recovery.
Reducing charitable giving deduction will hurt charities when people need them for help.
Romney's 20% tax cut plan will not even stimulate the economy since it is now revenue neutral. In other words, it will not add $1 to America's economic growth.
Romney's plan in its new form will only make the economy worse, and should be discarded.
OBAMA 2012............For America's future.
Layton--obviously you are a Religious BIGOT!!Grow up!
President Obama is a pathetic leader. He has failed in his leadership. I don't care if unemployment went to 4% it wouldn't make change my mind.
Did you hear him say toward the end of the debate "and everybody's GETTING a fair share", not EARNING it just GETTING it. Pathetic.

You act like I care what the republicans have done to piss you off Sanity. Why would I even give a crap about any of this? All I see is, when the republicans forward a piece of legislation to the Senate, Harry Reid tables it. Talk about obstruction... it's directly related to the Democrat in charge of the Senate. You can believe it's the republicans... I KNOW it's from the Democrat.
Good news! It's not much, but it's heading in the right direction.
But just a question anyway, is it more likely that the innovation of businesses has more to do with an economy than who is in power, whether it is a democrat or a republican?
I see both parties use this jobs' thing all the time but the President doesn't make any hiring decisions. All he can do is have some influence on the business environment. So in the end, it is good to hear that businesses are moving in the right direction.
Pigotry,
Romney is running to do more than lower his own taxes. Look at who funds him!
The Kochs, Adelson and about a dozen other billionaires are his primary source of funds. Why are they funding him? Sure, taxes are a large part of it.
The Kochs and some of the others want him to roll back environmental regulations so they can pollute with zero consequences. They want tort reform, too. If someone wants to sue because the Kochs polluted the water supply, tough tooties....limits on awards are what the Kochsuckers want.
How about privatizing SS and Medicare? That's a big pile of money to gamble with.
Oh, it's way bigger than Mitt's taxes. His billionaire backers stand to increase their wealth significantly and at a huge cost to the middle class and the environment.
Well the magic of the day is slightly diminished for Obama... sorry to say this liberals, I know you are having a beer high because of the faux unemployment number... but the Congressional Budget Office just announced that the Obama deficit for 2012 has reached $1.2 Trillion.
Maybe your president should stop worrying about his campaign speeches and start working on getting the fiscal house in order... something he hasn't done a single thing about since being immaculated.
I guess I am the only one in America who watched the debates and felt that President Obama won, maybe because I listened to the content of the debate, weighing the different policy options, and I found President Obama's points more convincing.
However, I understand, that the rest of America wants to see Obama turn into a werewolf at the next debate, and tear Romney limb for limb. OK! I think President Obama can do it. He just needs to skip dinner, get to the debate ravenous, and picture Mitt as a 5 Guys burger! He'll tear into Romney, and America will be happy.
Hotrod,
Seriously what exactly about my comment made you cough that up? You know absolutely NOTHING about me. Got anger issues? There are pills for that . . .
Obama/Biden 2012
SS - kepp dreaming your day away.
Don't know were you got 11%, must be from Cracker Jacks Box. In addition Romney is already getting a bump which will be reported by Sunday.
Here is the general race latest. Please get your numbers correct.
Do you really think it looks positive to those that do not have a job yet?
Amy - What were you smaking during the debate??????
Brianb - of course you know the truth - you're just not willing to admit it. If you do it will show the idiot you've been in supporting people who don't give a d*mn about you and prove it daily by blocking everythign that can help everyone. But, that would mean you'd been duped and you're just not willing to admit that so you keep supporting the same people who don't give a d*mn about you or anyone else in this country. They've pledged their support to a man who no one elected and they've thrown the country under the bus to do it.
Republicans have caused and continued this mess. That pisses me off because I see good people hurting every day and idiots like you whine and do nothing but continue to support the traitors in the Republican party. If that doesn't piss you off then you're as stupid as you sound with every post.
Go ahead and play your hate game. I know it makes you feel better. Too bad. You'll never admit the truth and you'll always be angry.
Obama/Biden 2012
I find it interesting that all of a sudden one month before the election they found an additional 873,000 jobs that they had missed before.
We have heard the talk of government jobs being reduced but all of a sudden there there was a readjustment of 91,000 additional in the last two months.
I am not saying this is a conspiracy but it is strange that this happened when people are beginning to vote
So here are a couple of nuggets. On one hand Stephanie Cutter admits that Romney does not have a $5T tax cut (unlike her boss), and concedes that it is around a $1T after revenue is mad up from removing deductions. On the other hand VP Biden brags that they are going to raise taxes by $1T at least in the next term.

Brian,
[… but the Congressional Budget Office just announced that the Obama deficit for 2012 has reached $1.2 Trillion]
Yes all that spending that originated in the Republican controlled House.
You be the Judge!
MITT ROMNEY, a pathological and sociopathic LIAR, an admitted-known TAX-CHEAT, and a probable FELON, who only Advoid those FELONY CHARGES, by Unethically, Immorally, and Unmanly "RETROACTIVELY-RETIRING" from BAIN CAPITAL.
And has any person on this Planet, other than the unmanlyand unfit Mitt Romney, been able to "Retire RetroActively" from their job and/or position to avoid Felony Charges? I doubt it.
or
President Barack Obama, the Kind, the Good, the Merciful?
Not even a contest, now is it?
Plus the Unemployment rate is Now BELOW 8%.
It's a "God-thing"
It's Obvious that God does Not want the wannabe "Out Sorcer and Chief" Mitt Romney to ever be our President.
Thank-you God.
Not true. Non-discretionary spending, entitlements, do originate from the current congress.
Speaking of taxes, in 2011 the president made $789,674 and had an effective tax rate of 20.5%.
Running the numbers (assuming he would take no deductions because he is rich and doesn't need them) he should have had an effective rate of 30.7%.
So why the hypocracy Mr President? Shouldn't the rich be paying more? Can't you lead by example.
Oh, but he is just following the tax code (the law as it were), right? Well guess what, so is Mitt Romney.
Get a new argument libs.
Chef - who knows if Romney is or not? He won't release his returns. Summaries don't cut it!
Obama/Biden 2012
SeekingSanity
sorry about that. I thought that it was an excellent Romney plan. More detailed than any Romney plan put out by Romney.
Chef Darrell
how do you know Romney is following the tax law? Besides the 2 sterilized tax returns (which one of them took 9 months to clean up), how do you know what Romney is following?
BTW, don't you find it strange that Romney chose not to take full deduction on his charity contribution? It's kind of like Romney didn't want to pay less than the 13% he forced himself to pay...Tell me, who in their right mind pays more than what's allowed? Unless, of course he didn't want to look like he pays waaaaay less than the Middle Class does.
Feisty, I saw you on TV last week.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpAOwJvTOio
Stephanie Cutter did not admit that Obama lied about the $5T tax cut. I read the RCP article, too, Alan.
Stephanie and Erin both agreed that the 20% lowering of taxes across the board would cost $5T. That's a $5T tax cut. That's before figuring in the magical accounting that Romney won't specify. If Romney, who still hasn't specified what he'd cut (except we know that he'd fire the Muppets), closed everything possible at the top, he might be able to reach $4T. That still leaves $1T.
Romney has not detailed how he'd make up for the shortfall except to gesticulate wildly about lowering and growing. That didn't work out so well last time and he has not stated how this time would be any different.
Labor Force Stagnation Concealed by Obama
YOU can't fix STUPID, but WE can VOTE the FOOL out of office!!!
September 17, 2012
Forget about four more years. Based on the USA’s current trajectory, it would take another 25 terms, or 98 years, for Barack Obama’s bizarre economic policies to restore the U.S. Labor Force to where it should be in the next four years, when compared to the growth rates achieved under the policies of George W. Bush. And then once that’s been achieved, based on the trajectory of the USA’s 11,832,000 Jobs Deficit, it will take something on the order of infinity to reach full-employment. So what’s the point of another Obama term, to fundamentally destroy the Global economy?
Earlier this month micro-journalists were roused over the fact that 368,000 additional workers dropped out of the labor force during the month of August. For the first time many were awakened to the fact that this was the only reason the official unemployment rate declined from 8.3% to 8.1%, but that’s about as far as they ventured. A handful went on to extrapolate that the real unemployment rate is actually 11.2% when based on the same labor force participation rate in place when Obama entered office, but hindsight is 20/20. A more substantive analysis would involve utilizing this information in order to project where we are headed.
Backwards
Last Friday, Egan-Jones Ratings Co. downgraded its U.S. sovereign rating to AA- from AA on concerns that the Fed's new round of quantitative easing, or QE3, will hurt the U.S. economy. The ratings agency said the Fed's plan of buying $40 billion in mortgage-backed securities a month and keeping interest rates near zero does little to raise GDP, reduces the value of the dollar, and raises the price of commodities. In a note Egan-Jones said, “From 2006 to present, the US's debt to GDP rose from 66% to 104% and will probably rise to 110% a year from today under current circumstances; the annual budget deficit is 8%. In comparison, Spain has a debt to GDP of 68.5% and an annual budget deficit of 8.5%.”
Topping this, according to the Economic Cycle Research Institute, the federal government’s release of overstated preliminary data is obscuring real-time evidence of recession. For example, the Obama Administration is purposefully overstating preliminary labor statistics in order to give a boost to his re-election bid, but this is a dangerous practice, because by the time economists are able to determine that we are in recession, it will be too late to issue a warning. In contrast, under the Bush Administration preliminary statistics were typically understated, and thus we had warning several month’s prior to the Great Recession.
Based on the August Employment Situation Report, the economy added a mere 96,000 jobs, while June and July’s numbers were revised downward by 41,000. Thus, the U.S. realized a net gain of just 55,000 Nonfarm jobs in the month of August. But micro-journalists ran with the 96,000 figure, basically ignoring a history of 42 consecutive months of subsequent downward revisions, as though this figure won’t also be revised downward next month. Nevertheless, since the economy needs to create 127,000 jobs a month just to keep up with population growth, the result led to an increase in the jobs deficit, which currently stands at 11,832,000.
As outlined in the last post, U.S. Jobs Deficit Increases by 72,000 in August, to be meaningful, the number of jobs needed to return to more or less full employment by December 2014, or within the next 28 months, is now 549,571 jobs a month. And even if we extend the target date to 5 years from today, which will be more than 8 years from the time the recession ended, the number of jobs needed to return to more or less full employment by August 2017, or within the next 60 months, is now 324,200 jobs a month. So even though micro-journalists ignored the fact that only 55,000 jobs were added in August, and instead sought to convince the public that 96,000 were added, it really doesn’t matter. What should be made clear is the point that we will never reach full-employment at the current trajectory.
Labor Force Stagnation
According the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the labor force grew by 10,436,000 during George W. Bush’s term, which encompassed two recessions (see chart below). During the first recession, which lasted from March 2001 to November 2001, the labor force grew by 539,000. And even during the first 13 months of the Great Recession (end of the Bush term), from December 2007 through January 2009, the labor force continued to expand by 401,000. In contrast, during Barack Obama’s full term to-date, the labor force has grown by a mere 409,000. In other words during Obama’s entire term the labor force has grown at a recession pace.
Even worse, the Great Recession ended in June 2009, yet from July 2009 to August 2012 the labor force actually shrank by 85,000. This means that, under the policies of Barack Obama, the U.S. labor force has performed worse than during the most recent recessions – way worse. Thus, the economy is not growing, it’s shrinking. So what about that?
The Labor Force grew at an annual rate of 0.907% during both Bush terms, which is close to the rate of population growth, while annual growth has been almost immeasurable during Obama’s term, at just 0.076%. So what does this mean? It means that under Barack Obama’s trickle-down-government, borrow-and-spend economic policies, and based on the USA’s current trajectory, it will take approximately 25 more terms (98.1 years) for the labor force to grow to where it should be in the next four years. So perhaps instead of crying “four more years,” Obama loyalists should be shouting “98 more years,” because four more just won’t cut it.
Aside from the Constitution, the only other problem with anointing Barack Obama as our first Dictator is that even if all 7,031,000 Americans who have dropped out of the labor force during his term, those who still want jobs now, suddenly decided to return to the labor market, there’s no guarantee they would find work, because of the Jobs Deficit which currently stands at 11,832,000. In fact, based on the USA’s current trajectory, it will take something on the order of infinity to reach full-employment. Thus, hardcore Obama loyalists might as well be shouting, “Obama forever”.
But fortunately, most of us don’t have forever to wait, which is precisely why we need to end this ridiculous charade right now. There’s only one Plan on the ballot this November, and only one man capable of turning things around. And by turning things around, no, I don’t mean going back to the same policies which caused the last recession. That would be lame. I mean returning our government to some semblance of honesty and integrity. A POTUS who ignores his own jobs council, and then inundates the nation with lies and distortions, while concealing the truth about the economy, isn’t a problem solver; he is the problem of our day, the present, right now, today.
The first step in repairing the Republic is to vote this deceiver out of office. The second step involves hiring a turnaround guy, someone who doesn’t know how to fail, and then trusting in God to help him get us back on the right track.
Communist Obama has much to learn about the United States and Americans . . . soon he will be just another bump in the road; hopefully he will be tried for Treason against the United States and receive the just sentence of Patriotic Americans who see the damage he has inflicted by attempting to destroy America!!!
Romney / Ryan in a landslide in 2012!!!
Romney is using CBO estimates (from what I have heard) of job growth in the next 4 years with current economic plan and budgets (not fiscal cliff, that is a separate story). Recovering housing market will absorb excess housing in this time, putting extra 2 million back to work in housing industry (2/house/year at additional 1 million homes built). Reduced consumer debt will lead to consumer spending rebound. Increased sales growth will lead to more jobs throughout economy.
Normal infrastructure spending will also add to jobs while recovering state and local government tax revenues will lead to increased jobs( instead of 600,000 fewer jobs as seen recently) in education and police and firemen and other government activities.
All this increased economic activity will reduce budget deficit by $350 billion + per year. Additional gains from economy growing at 3% level will be savings in unemployment compensation ($100 billion + per year) and Food Stamp program ($40 billion per year).
We are on the right track. We would be much further along in recovery if Republicans had tried to help rather than hinder our recovery.
OBAMA 2012 ......for America's future.
Of course she didn't. She simply admitted it wouldn't add 5T to the deficit as her boss keeps claiming.

No, Amy, you are not the only one. Those of us who pay attention to facts know that President Obama beat the snot out of Romney. Those of us who pay attention to facts know that Romney lied repeatedly.
As an example, President Obama made it absolutely clear about the 716-billion in Medicare savings. Still, Romney closed by lying about the savings. They are savings - not cuts. There are only two conclusions to draw, either Mitt Romney is stupid and/or he is a liar. (I choose both.)
However, the right-wingers have a narrative that is impervious to fact and challenge. For lefty-types, we were so stunned by the brazenness of Romney's lies that we had to do some fact checking. The fact is, there is no lie too bold or too brazen that Romney won't pick it up and run with it.
So, did Romney lose? At first blush, no. However, wait until the ads start coming out that show Romney has turned his back on his right-wing "friends". Each time he moderates a position, he alienates the Republican extremists.
Those are the kinds of Romney victories that make a very smart President Obama smile.
Here we go again Chef - Really!!!
No one stated that Romney could take legal deductions - it is the hiding of revenue in offshore accounts that changes his actual income. Also by Romney not taking Credit for his actual *wink *wink deductions his tax rate would have been even lower. Romney totally fudging numbers again!!!
Also let's look at the Stock Market since Obama came into office. Under Bush the Market peaked at 14,164 on Oct 9, 2007 and then started to decline to 8,218 when President Obama took office in Jan 2009 and finally bottomed out at just below 7,000 on March 2, 2009.
Since then the Market has continued to climb all the way back to current just over 13,612 today - which is just 500 points shy of President Bushes all time high, not bad considering all the financial mess that the last Administration left.
So with over a 6,500 point increase in the stock market, over 32 consecutive months of positive jobs growth, a recovering housing market and a declining unemployment rate "YES" - the country is better off moving "FORWARD" and should be an easy decision to re-elect President Obama.
Source update
Not CBO, but a Moody's forecast for the next 4 years of job growth without changing anything.
But Alan, Romney still hasn't stateed what he'd close. Right now, all he's claiming is that he'll close loopholes and eliminate deductions for only the top earners. The concensus among economists seems to be that there aren't enough loopholes and deductions to close on the top earners to make up the difference.
The middle class would necessarily be affected, something he states will not happen. So how does his math work?
JT - posting your ignorance and hatred isn't impressive - even though it's a long post. More of your nonsense - nothing else!
Obama/Biden 2012
But the left side is calling him a tax cheat. The IRS is not. The president is calling for the rich to pay more, and the president is rich, so why is he taking deductions? Why is he not leading by example? It doesn't jive.
Apples and watermelons. STTS much? Besides that, it's apparent you really don't know how the stock market works.
shaak322
and not just that. Without the extra cash, fewer will do home improvements and home improvements benefit carpenters, painters, landscapers, roofers, electricians, window installers and even stores like Home Depot or Lowe's.
There were 110 million occupied units in 2006 (don't have a more recent stat). So let's say half of them spend extra $1000 on average per year to improve their homes. That's $55 billion dollars not spent that will affect jobs, revenues and the economy.
I am extremely happy with the jobs report. I wish it was better though. I believe, if the republican Congress would sit down with the democrats, and the President, in a constructive and caring manner, this horrendous burden, that is bearing on the backs of middle class and poor Americans could soon be lifted. At least a coherent and viable plan would lift the spirits of everyone. Both parties would do well to give supreme efforts toward this accomplishment. It's their job to do so! The people are both tired and weary of hearing their excuses!
Mr President, Sir: With all due respect, you must demonstrate an aggressive temperament with Romney during the next debate. If you have to consume a mix of a little Vodka and a trace of gun powder to generate some heat in those icy veins, then do it! Don't let Mitt Romney get away with His bullsh^t again! Respectfully Sir!
Due to massive reduction in payroll
Job growth that is less than we need to even accomodate new people coming into the job market is not a positive
Considering interest rates are less that 4% you'd think things should be booming. They are not.
A declining workforce more like it. Workforce participation hasn't been this low since the Carter years. Only 114k jobs were created. We need at least 125k to tread water. We are still sinking.
In the real world we know that's complete B.S. We are still bumping along the bottom - not trending anywhere.
Because such a large change to the tax code will cause winners and losers. He can stand up there and say I won't raise taxes for the middle class but what exactly does that mean? For a middle class person living in New Jersey with a large mortgage it can mean that his taxes are going up as the deductions are removed. On the other hand for a middle class person living in Florida with a small mortgage and no state tax, the lower rates will mean paying less. Does this add up to being neutral?
Romney's plan would probably cause me to pay more in tax. I don't mind this as I like the idea of my money staying with me and not being recycled through the federal government, and we all are going to be paying more in the future anyway. The base has to be broadened and we have to address the deficit.
I find this plan more appealing than the Presidents which is also fantasy. He continually blames Bush for the deficit when his policies call for the continuation of 80% of the Bush tax rates an expansion in Medicare D, and an escalation of the war in Afghanistan (one war costing as much as the two previous ones).
Neither of the candidates are being realistic in their numbers so its up to you which fantasy you want to go for, just don't believe in it.
Chef Darrell
we are not calling him a tax cheat, just a POTENTIAL tax cheat. Why? Because the only person who could prove that he is not a tax cheat will not prove it.
I've never heard of a case when, even though it would be in the person's best interest is to prove something, he/she refuses to do so. Does Romney have to? Of course not but he has to live with the consequenses of what it looks like to the voter. And since Romney tends to NOT prove any of his claims, people get suspicious. Remember, Romney is not applying for any job. He is applying for the office of POTUS. Normal hiring rules do not apply here. You don't call previous employers for references. The candidates words, actions, past decisions or unaswered questions affect how he/she is seen. And Romney is failing big time -even among the Republican voters. They will still vote for him because of the (R) but if they had a choice, they would dump him like a bad date.
Bayllie Ring wingers think blogs are facts, soon you'll see them pawning off the most recent garbage from Breitbart as facts when they have 76 pages of information that has been discredited or found to be an outright made up lie.
To those of you who thinks the numbers are made up, first I'd like to say you disgust me, you hope that there is more unemployment so that Romney can win, which proves to me that you're more for your party than you are for the Country, Good news like this is always good for the country no matter who is President. Next try looking up facts, you don't want to believe the government job numbers then look up ADP job report. ADP is the largest payroll company in the country, the last 2 months they have posted an increase in payroll of 200K and just 2 days ago posted September with an increase of 162,000 new private sector jobs. While not a perfect indicator because they only track private sector jobs, they do say more jobs are being added.
DCC70
they also believe that Fox News tells the truth so some conservative blog is not much of a stretch
Q22
We would be further along in our recovery if Republicans had not blocked 2nd round of stimulus. You can blame them for the slow recovery. Stimulus is what our government has always used (since Great Depression) to speed recovery.
Higher job growth (through stimulus) yields higher sales growth which yields higher investment and job growth and the cycle repeats itself with increasing economic activity.
You should have supported Obama's efforts to get a 2nd round of stimulus. You would have much less to gripe about and maybe you would have even benefited financially from a speedier recovery.
Many Americans have continued to suffer from joblessness and lower incomes due to Republican attempts to stall recovery by blocking further stimulus.
OBAMA 2012 .....for America's future.
Prove a negative? Illogical.
Besides, I'm voting for Johnson. Obama is not the answer and Romney is just the same. It's just fun getting you lefties all riled up.
Prove a negative? Illogical.
Besides, I'm voting for Johnson. Obama is not the answer and Romney is about the same, but with better business sense. It's just fun getting you lefties all riled up.
And do you have an example of when it has worked?
I wonder how many of you dumb @sses have worked for a poor man? You don't realize that everything is trickle down economics, EVERYTHING! But you lefty dumb @sses refuse to hear the truth thinking some how this democratic fantasy will work. No matter what you do in life there is a cause and effect. Example/amd fact: Increase of tax placed on the wealthy just trickles down in prices. Common sense don't you think. When cost go up then retail price goes up. Jobs go down and the taxes paid to the government down. So now that taxes are down democrats say, hey we need to raise taxes again. The same thing over and over. Dumb @ss.
GOP. Lower the tax burden = more jobs= less people depending on government hand out+ more taxes coming in because more jobs are available.
The biggest difference I see in the two canidates is that one believes that bigger government is what everyone needs to survive and the other believes that we need to take more responsibility for ourselves. Do you want the government to take over everything or do you want to be in charge of your own life? Vote accordingly. If so many people just want the government to take care of everything for them then we are sunk. No government in recorded history has been able to make that work. We need to take control of our own lives.

Do some research on PAYGO and quit wasting bandwidth. You might find that the dems pushed the legislation through and now don't want to follow it. Bottom line, the republicans are following the rules, the democrats (the ones who pushed through the legislation, remember) don't think they have to do so.

rmoonrock,
Agreed. Government is not the answer to our problems. We are.
Chef Darrell
we are not talking about proving or disproving that God exists. Form 1040 is a piece a paper (or 400 of them) that you show or don't show. Nice try.
Chef Darrell
you do realize that he got this from sites like senate.gov where every vote on every bill is recorded?
he's listing bills that the Republicans BLOCKED. what the hell are you even talking about?
We would have been further along with the recovery and less in debt if a Republican were President. Any Republican - George W. Bush, John McCain. Sarah Palin, Dan Quayle or a hologram of Ronald Reagan.

What the Jobs Report Really Says About the Economy
By Jeff Cox
From the article...
But the underlying details told a less buoyant story: The closely watched U-6 rate, which takes into account the underemployed and those who have quit looking for work, held at 14.7 percent. Had the participation rate not dropped as much as it has over the past three years, the more-publicized U-3 unemployment rate actually would be 9.8 percent, according to University of Maryland economist Peter Morici.
I don't really think either of you know what the *#%& you're talking about, but just keep throwing sh-t out there and some moron(s) might believe you!!
Pathetic just pathetic...
bayllie,
1) There is no god.
2) Good luck waiting on him to release his tax returns. Even if he did prove he wasn't a tax cheat, you lefties would find something to complain about.
3) PAYGO says bills have to be funded with money that is currently available when they are passed, not with borrowed money. Way back in 2009 the democratic led congress pushed the bill through. In Feb 2010 it was signed. The republicans are blocking bills that the democrats want to borrow money to fund - in contrast to THEIR OWN LEGISLATION. That's what the hell I am talking about.
The jobs report is facinating ... it is supposedly taken on the basis of a survey, like a snapshot in time, a sample.
How then can you go back and ADD jobs to a prior month ? Are the Dems saying their Kodak didn't work the first time, or is this merely their way to "fudge" the numbers ? Most polls are "fudged"by over-sampling the Democrats. Is something similar going on here ??
jim
Calm down. Most of the economic statistics are reported based on sampling and estimation. Revised numbers are adjusted as better information becomes available. It is the way economic (and lots of other) statistics have been gathered for decades. The actual numbers are not known until payroll taxes are collected which, as you know, occurs weeks or even a month after the day the employee begins work.
Your statement about oversampling Democrats proves nothing except the source of your "news" .... FOX. There is no reason to believe that all of the polls, even Fox's own poll, by the way, over-samples any group.
Chef Darrell
Paygo ended the day the 2001 Recession became known. Deficit spending is how you stimulate economic growth in a recession. However, the trickle down crowd gave tax cuts to the rich when they already were sitting on excess investment capital waiting for sales to improve in 2001.
Then the Neocons started a War in Iraq. Where was Paygo then?
Prescription drug plan. Where was Paygo then?
It is good to hear that unemployment has dipped. It is a matter of the resillancy of the provate sector. Just before the stimulus was passed the Obama administration issued a report concerning the expected effect on unemployment of the stimulus program. According to that report, if the stimulus were passed, unemployment would never have gone above 8% and would be below 6% now. According to that report if the stimulus were not passed unemployment would peak when it did and start to come down as it has and would be slightly lower than it is now. So it is questionable whether all of this government spending has had any appreciable effect on unemployment but, of course, our debt has been skyrocketing.
Without conditions to include any action of congress, the Presdient promised that he would cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term. To keep his promise the 2012 federal deficit would have had to not exceed 229.27 billion dollars and the Presdient was off his mark by almost 1 trillion dollars. I estimate that the money that the federal government is now borrowing is going to end up costing the tax payers 10 times the amount borrowed to repay over the next 180 years. The President is our countries CEO and he has yet to present a detailed plan as how all this money that his administration has been borrowing is going to be paid back. The tax payers have a right to know how much all of this federal borrowing is going to end up costing them.
Chef Darrell
if we follow your "logic" then there is no point of proving anything because there will always be something else to complain about.
And if Romney did realese his taxes and proved that he wasn't a tax cheat, then it would the satisfy the left's original claim, wouldn't it? So it would serve the purpose and Romney could say FU Democrats. That in itself would be Romney's satisfying victory.
Kinda like Obama's releasing his long form birth certificate. Did not have to do but did it. It shut most righties up. And those who still refused to acknoweledge the validity of his birth certificate just got labelled as crazy birthers.
So no, I don't accept you "what if" excuse.
Chef Darrell
kind of like the 2001 and 2003 Bush tax cuts? There is a reason why they are not permanent - they were never paid for. So forgive me if I don't buy the Republican "do as I say not as I do" way of doing things. Just because they call themselves Fiscally Responsible, doesn't mean that they are.
The markets just closed and they are not buying what the President is trying to sell. If they believed these numbers, there would have been historic gains on such miraculous news of job gains!..........but it didn't happen, in fact they were taking their money off the table, and that's how the economic professionals vote in the real world.
shaak:
PAYGO was signed into law in February 2010.

Now you're just babbling incoherently.

Romney / Ryan in a landslide in 2012!!!
When we see small companies hiring and new construction going on for restaurants and retail centers all over my area, we know the economy is going well.
I live in VA and years ago, malls and shopping centers were closing down. It is inspiring to see the new construction growth throughout those same vacant lots.
Some trolls here regard all economic problems as "caused" by Obama's policies and at the same time regard all economic success as "in spite of" Obama's policies.
Are you folks so fixated on Obama that you also see his face when you look at your soup at dinner time?
Chef Darrell
with more tax cuts that ARE NOT paid for? Is that how they follow the rules? Or is it only for bills like Veterans Jobs Corps Act, S.Amdt.2789?
Tell me, how is Romney planning to pay for the tax cuts? Romney won't give details and Ryan doesn't have time. So maybe you can explain how they are planning on offsetting almost $5 trillion is loss of revenue.
Oh yeah, Romney will create 12 million imaginary jobs. Too bad he couldn't wing it in a tiny Mass.
You make me laugh Chef, you have no answers so you write I"m just babbling incoherently. What don't you understand and I will explain it to you.
more blah, blah, blah JT. The facts remain, when Obama took over we were nose diving, today marks 32 straight months of positive job growth and the lowest unemployment rate since Obama took over. So suck it up, Obama and his policy's have been far, way far more successful the Bush/Romney. Since Romney wants to return to the same policy's as Bush. How can that be a good thing?
Baylee, just goes to show the republican diminished capacity. Not able to understand basic Math, you cannot subtract and end up with a sum.
PAYGO was signed by the president in Feb 2010. So I guess I don't understand why you are bringing up cuts from 7 and 9 years prior. It wasn't law then, so it doesn't apply to your argument.
And yet the president extended them. Again, you're not making sense.
So after 3 1/2 years we're right back where we started when he got in? Great economic leadership! But wait - more than 1/2 of those jobs are part-time and seasonal-prep jobs that are temporary and only pay minimum wage, with no advancement. Can you pay the rent and put food on the table for your family with that? Can you send your kids to college? Can you get your car repaired or take a vacation? Can you even plan for the future? And we're still 3,900,000 jobs short of where we should be. I know people are eager to grasp at any good news, but this isn't what it needs to be.
What is wrong with your memory chef? Do you not remember the hostage taking by you republicons? Obama was trying to help Americans and the economy by extending unemployment benefits. This has been shown by the CBO.
CBO: Extending Unemployment Benefits Is "Both Timely And Cost-Effective In Spurring Economic Activity And Employment." According to the Congressional Budget Office: "Extending additional unemployment benefits would directly help those who would otherwise exhaust their unemployment benefits between March and December of this year. Households receiving unemployment benefits tend to spend the additional benefits quickly, making this option both timely and cost-effective in spurring economic activity and employment. A variant of this option would extend assistance with paying health insurance premiums, which would allow some recipients to maintain health insurance coverage they would otherwise have dropped." [Congressional Budget Office, 2/23/10]
CBO: Unemployment Benefits Are The Most Effective Way To Boost The Economy. Below is a chart created by the Congressional Budget Office to show the "cumulative effects of policy options on employment in 2010 and 2011":
That chart also shows that cutting taxes on the 1%ers is the least effective way to stimulate the economy.
So what did you republicons do? You held millions of Americans hostage so that your lords could keep their tax cuts.
Chef Darrell
because PAYGO is not a new thing. It was 1st enacted in 1990. Expired in 2002 so I will give you credit on the 2003 tax cuts but anything prior to 2002 still stands.
Although, let's not forget that the 2003 tax cuts are still not paid for and the interest still accumulates on the Bush unfunded mortgage.
Chef Darrell
you don't remember the big Republican FU to the 9/11 1st Responders if the Republicans didn't get their tax cuts for the rich?
do you read outside of your usual propaganda? Everyone knows why Obama extended them. Because of the REPUBLICAN EXTORTION!
The job numbers are skewed. He didn't say people are working pigotry he said unemployment is 8%. I know many people that have been jobless for years. They no longer have unemployment as an option therefore since they are claiming they don't count. Therefore unemployment claim are down not the jobless number. Now they are on welfare.
It is like going to the iScrub website. They are a company that sells software for removing metadata from emails. They mention windows 7 64bit, Outlook 2010, Word 2010 and many other items however what they evade is the fact that they do not support 64 bit office applications. Their software runs in a 32bit envorinment. Just like obama they take partial phrases such as Windows 7 64 bit and try to sell you a bill of goods. It runs in a 32 bit compatability mode. So like obamas policies things works half speed or slower, processes designed to speed production aren't used, and overall perfomance of the product remains unchanged or worse.
A well like man on the conservative platform was effectively Newt-erred using his own words a few mere days before the caucuses in Florida. Romney's team has much information, they are very smart, and they will likely strike in a quick fashion with some obamanomic clips, some anti-war bring the troops home lies obama campaigned on, and a few other goodies a week or so before the election. In afghanistan we have brought alot of body bags home under obama in fact over 2100 dead and about 1700 of them occurred during this regimes work in afghanistan.
The idea isn't to discredit so much as to hammer a reminder in the hearts of people about what a sad excuse for a president he is and to show the guy lacks intellect and is unfit for a janitorial job let alone the presidency. Which currently is more like a presidense-e.
It took nearly 3 years to get unemployment below 8% and somehow he goes on stage and totes it as a victory. No, people still remember what they went through for the past three years, and they'll remember on election day as well.
Mathematically, the job number just don't add up. The BLS report says ''The unemployment rate decreased to 7.8 percent in September, and total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 114,000." However, to get the unemployment rate to 7.8, the BLS data shows that number of people employed went up from 142,101,000 in August to 142,974,000 in September. That is an increase of 873,000. The 114K are actual numbers and teh 873K comes from a sample (estimate). If the unemployment numbers used the actual employment increase, the unemployment rate would be 8.3%, because more people started looking for work. Like I said the numbers don't add up.
Shortly after the election a revised Jobs report will come out claiming the lowered unemployment rate was "an overestimation." But in the meantime, the president will be using these figures to convince the masses of his "successfull" economic policy.
How is it possible to move the unemployment figures by 0.3% with the addition of a mere 114,000 new jobs? From what I have heard, 120,000 to 150,000 new jobs have to be created just to have the unemployment figures remain even. These figures don't even count those who have used up all of their unemployment benefits.
Something just doesn't add up....just like the polls biased to 2008 figures, which were statistical outlyers.
On another note, Joe Biden mentoned he is going to help the middle class by ending the Bush tax cuts. Anybody who worked, received a paycheck and paid taxes got a break under those cuts. How is that going to help the middle class?
Today the polls show Obama down, Romney is within 2 points of Obama....
Woo hoo Mr. President!
“The report from the Bureau of Labor statistics shows workforce participation remained essentially flat in September, at around 64 percent, with an uptick in workers who took part time jobs for economic reasons, such as not being able to get full time employment”.
Would those be low wage holiday retail jobs hawking clothing made in Pakistan to Americans who can’t afford them? Is that the best you can do Mr. President? Apparently so.
Wait til Walmart hires holiday workers!! And all the other retailers....the numbers will be astounding for Obama!
Well Romney does not tell you your "TAX BILL" will not be higher just that your tax rate will be lower. You really must pay attention to this man he is a genuine flim flam man, He always says I am going to cut taxes 20% , the top rate will go down 7% and rest of rates will go down 20% leading you to believe your rate will go down 7% also-But check your rate will only go down 5%. Also by letting Bush tax cuts expire for top 2 income levels really does not hurt a lot of businesses as they are incorporated and the owners income is separated from it like an employees. The no longer is the "job creator" the business is, they are 2 separate entities.
Tom-1076479
hey, at least Wal-Mart workers don't have to worry about not having health insurance anymore since Romney informed all of us that they can use ER as their healthcare...
jokerjo
you know that, and I know that. Unfortunately this is what the righties hear instead:
...blah blah blah blah your tax rate will be lower....
To them there is no difference between % and $. In their minds lower % = lower tax obligation in $.
The highest one-year misery index under President Barack Obama was 12.11, and the average has been 10.78. The highest under Bush was 9.65, and his average was 8.11.
The misery index under President Jimmy Carter averaged 16.26, with a high of 20.76. Then President Ronald Reagan took over. If any president had an excuse to blame the previous administration, Reagan did. Instead the misery index declined by 9.61 points.
It is time Obama takes responsibility for our misery.
A vote for Romney is a vote for another four years of Bush and Cheney.
Bush was president for eight years and that was less than four years ago. Why wasn't he at the GOP Convention stumping for the GOP? Oh, that's right ... they didn't want him there.
Why do they want everyone to stop talking about the Bush and Cheney Administration? Why do they hope we will all forget about him? Why can't we talk about the eight years that brought us two wars and economic disaster?
The most obvious empty chair at the RNC was the one that belonged to Bush.
So the President is proud that unemployment is only two percentage points higher than what his administration said that it would be if the stimulus were passed. I would assume that he is also proud that he missed his commitment on the deficit by only about 900 billion dollars. Of course that 900 billion dollars will end up costing the tax payers an estimated 9 trillion dollars before it is all paid back in 180 years but who cares about the tax payers. Congratulations Mr. President!
Well, Will Haas, I think the President has done pretty well considered what Bush and Cheney handed him before they took off for their plush retirement on their luxury ranches in Texas and Wyoming.
Especially since the GOP Congress made ZERO effort to help correct the financial crisis their Party incurred during the eight years that Bush and Cheney were in office.
President Obama was handed the biggest mess any President has inherited in history, and was able to make some progress despite the persistent unwillingness of the GOP and the obstinate hatefulness of the TP.
Face it ... the GOP is a political dinosaur that has been hijacked by the fanatic Tea Party.
Every true Republican secretly hates the TP.
I ought to know. I voted for Bush ... twice ... before the Great Myth of Weapons of Mass Destruction was exposed and the economy plunged head-first into the toilet.
I will never vote GOP again.
Silverton, thank you for reading my post and commenting. The Democrats who took over congress during the Bush administration are as much to blame as Bush. Obama did not inherit anything. He campaigned for and one the job of President after Bush. He said he could fix the economy. He said that deficit spending was bad and he vowed to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term. 2012 was the end of his first term, and to keep his promise the federal deficit should not have exceeded 229.27 billion dollars but that did not happen. President Obama missed it by more than 900 billion which will turn into 9 trillion dollars before it is all paid back in 180 years. The President's solution to our unemployment problem was the stimulus. The administration was promising that if the stimulus were passed that currently the unemployment rate would be less than 6% but instead the unemployment rate is an estimated 7.8% The President has failed to keep major promises regarding the economy. His stimulus spending bill did not perform as advertised.
JFK said, “Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country"
VS
OBAMA said, “Ask not what you can do for your country – ask what your country can do for
you”
The contrast clear, in fact, it is BLACK and WHITE!
If JFK could see what Obama has done to the Democratic party and how he is bankrupting our country, he would roll over in his grave!
Sorry, Will Haas, but it didn't happen that way.
President Obama said before he was elected that it would take more than four years to recover from the economic mess that had been created, and he said it could take even more than eight years. He did not promise to "fix" the economy, but promised to "stop the freefall, turn it around, and get it moving in the right direction again."
Promise Made. Promise Kept. Thank you, Mr. President!
Every member of the Tea Party should hang their heads in shame for giving the axe to worthy Congressmen and women, both Republican and Democrats, who were willing to work together with the President to fix some of these disasterous problems Bush and Cheney thrust upon us.
Shame on the TP for loving their own personal agendas more than loving America.
Dream on with your figures and numbers. Anybody without short-term memory loss remembers what happened back in summer/fall 2008 before President Obama even took office. Our state lost over 600 small businesses in a two-month period as one after another flat-lined with the economy. I personally witnessed the effects of the stimulus package that were meant to help people in sudden crisis.
And then the GOP and TP swore they would make President Obama a one-term President. Their own pride was more important than getting our nation back on its feet and aiding the millions of people suffering because of the botched Bush Administration.
President Obama has accomplished quite a bit in the four years he has been in office and he has done it in spite of constant opposition by the GOP and TP. Yet, even though he has worked diligently toward fixing our economy and had made some headway, the GOP and TP consistently whine, "You haven't fixed it enough! You haven't fixed it enough."
Your numbers mean nothing. There are real people out there that are living in real time and are thankful for all the President has done for them and trust him to continue to work toward the good of all Americans, even if all Americans are unsupportive of him.
Only a fool of the greatest magnitude could consider voting for a man who steadfastly refuses
to even place his hand over his heart during the playing of America’s National Anthem!!! Any man who views this country with such distain is unqualified to hold the hallowed office of President!!!
The more myopic minded single issue constituency’s that blindly support Obama without carefully examining his background and true agenda are in fact FOOLS OF THE GREATEST MAGNITUDE!
Romney/Ryan 2012
silverton-2953905
If anyone should be hanging their head in shame, it should be you.
Silverton, thank you again for reading my post and commenting. I hope that this finds you well.
A big cause of the economic turn down was legislation passed during the Clinton administration and actions taken by the Democratic congress. The Bush administration was at fault for not seeing what was going on and taking appropriate action. I had friends in 2007 that were warning me of the up coming catastrophy but the administration seemed to be oblivious to the problems. Because the economy was tanking and the President was a Republican many voters were not going to reward the Republicans with their vote. Obama seemed to be the more charismatic figure and his hope and change offered something new, a way to solve our economic problems. As a candidate Obama made more than 500 promises according to Politifact and he campaigned as a fiscal conservative. He made statements about how bad deficit spending was and he vowed to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term.
After he took office his solution to our unemployment problem was the stimulus spending bill. That is what the Presdient called it, a spending bill and it had to be passed immediately to stop unemployment from exceeding 8%. To sell the stimulus the Obama administration generated a report that projected unemployment vs time both if the stimulus were passed and if the stimulus were not passed. According to that report if the stimulus had worked unemployment should now be below 6% According to that report unemployment has been slightly worse than if the stimulus had never been passed. The President made statements to the effect if he could not fix the economy within three years that he did not deserve a second term. Obama preached fiscal conservatism when campaigning for office but then started to run up some of the largest deficits ever. His spending is what motivated the grass roots birth of the Tea Party for the stimulus was not the only spending bill that was passed. Congress kept passing his bills until they began to realize that the President had no sense of budget. We should all be grateful that Cap and Trade got stalled in the Senate.
To keep the President's promise regarding the deficit, the 2012 federal deficit could not exceed 229.27 billion dollars yet the actual 2012 federal deficit exceeded 1.1 trillion dollars. I estimate that this additional 900+ billion dollars will end up costing the taxpayers more than 9 trillion dollars to repay in 180 years. The problem is that the federal government has more than 16 trillion dollars of existing debt with huge deficits predicted for at least another decade. The old debt has to be paid off before the new debt can even start to be paid off. All the time that the old debt is being paid off, interest has to be paid on the new debt. Our deficit spending is unsustainable and the federal government is spiralling toward bankruptcy. There is no one out there to bale out the federal government. Something has to be done to avoid economic catastrophy. Obama has mentioned the idea of starting to pay down the debt but has never presented any sort of detailed plan to do so. His own White House is predicting that huge deficits will continue for at least a decade.
Something has to be done to keep President Obama from bankrupting the nation. The President promised that the 2012 federal deficit would not exceed 229.27 billion dollars yet, despite the President's promise, the 2012 federal deficit has exceeded 1.2 trillion dollars. Considering the deficits that the Obama administration has been running it is hard to believe that it was Obama who said:
The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies.
And the cost of our debt is one of the fastest growing expenses in the Federal budget. This rising debt is a hidden domestic enemy, robbing our cities and States of critical investments in infrastructure like bridges, ports, and levees; robbing our families and our children of critical investments in education and health care reform; robbing our seniors of the retirement and health security they have counted on.
Every dollar we pay in interest is a dollar that is not going to investment in America’s priorities. Instead, interest payments are a significant tax on all Americans–a debt tax that Washington doesn’t want to talk about. If Washington were serious about honest tax relief in this country, we would see an effort to reduce our national debt by returning to responsible fiscal policies.
Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that “the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.
~ Senator B. H. Obama, March 2006
Will Haas,
That all sounds very well-researched and well-worded, unfortunately it is not the truth.
You are the first person in history I have ever heard blame Clinton for the national debt. It is almost unbelievable to even hear you say it.
Every history book will tell you how Ronald Reagan's "voodoo economics" bombed and how he plunged America into the deepest debt this nation had ever experienced. Reagan himself described the new debt as "the greatest disappointment of his presidency."
Can't argue with that.
Funny, how Mitt Romney is now accusing President Obama of "trickle-down economics" when that is the phrase that everyone uses for the budget-busting plan of the Republican Hero Reagan.
His successor, G.H.W. Bush (George Bush's father), ran on the platform of "Read My Lips - No New Taxes," an unrealistic promise, and one that his economic adviser, Richard Darmen, called "stupid and dangerous." But, it won H.W. the votes and he got elected. Then, he raised taxes two years later and also increased the deficit and threw our nation into a recession.
It took President Clinton to finally turn that debt crisis around and into a surplus. He did that in eight years.
So, what happens then?
Oh, that's right ... the next eight years, President Bush not only thrusts our nation back into huge debt, but walks out of the Oval Office leaving Americans in financial turmoil on the edge of global economic collapse.
Say what you will about the stimulus plan, it not only saved the American auto industry that in turn saved millions of jobs, it kept our country from drowning in total calamity. Perhaps you were not one of the millions of people who were affected in the crisis and who benefited from the actions that President Obama took (even in the weeks before he took office). I happen to be one of those Americans that did. Never before in history had a President-elect had to step in and take emergency procedures to keep the nation from falling into total chaos.
Before he took office, President Obama said it would take more than four years to fix this mess, and he said it could take more than eight years. He has made some remarkable progress considering he has had ZERO help from a Republican Congress.
Will, all your statements and figures sound very nice and logical, but the truth is in the history books for anyone with eyes to read, and anyone who is old enough to remember to recall.
People have tried to re-write history for years to accomodate their own personal agendas or views, but as Dr. Phil says, "The greatest indicator of future behavior is past behavior."
I'll go with the guys that have made progess in the past, and that includes President Obama, even if his progress has not been enough to satisfy the GOP and TP whose past failings and present stubborness have brought our nation down.
The economy is finally moving back in the right direction.
Let's continue to go forward and not back.
To canthidefromthetruth,
Your comments about JFK are amusing.
I am old enough to remember JFK's Administration. My father campaigned for him and even had JFK's photo framed and hanging in our home.
My father is now in his eighties and supports President Obama. While he does not agree with everything President Obama has done, he still considers him a worthy President.
So do I.
I bet this raises the % of folks that believe the economy is getting better. And that will generate confidence at the markets as well as the confidence of businesses to get off their wallets and invest.
Overall a GOOD sign regardless of anyone's negative spin.
The DOW is up, my 401k is up, but I'm still not voting for Obama.
I sure am - the Dow has more than doubled, integrity and competence have been restored to the White House after too many decades, and the USA is no longer the laughing stock of the globe (thanks again, W - not).
Rock on, President Barack!!
Integrity? Surely you jest. The president has surrounded himself with tax cheats, incompetents, and lobbyists. And he has Jojo the chimp Biden as his VP.
Chef Darrell'
Time for you to get a reality check. Start by changing your news source. Your righty bias is showing.
We all value sources of info. Got any? Or do you just make this stuff up?
Sometimes simple follow-on questions can help drive clarity...
So why is it you see virtually NO ONE defending Romney's new found plans? I see the left criticizing the plans. I see the right criticizing the left. I see the left supporting Obama's efforts. I see NO ONE able to defend the magic mushroom economics that tripped us all up on debate night.
"My plan will cut 20% across the board". Okay, and why, exactly, do you want to do that? It drives an immediate $5 Trillion deficit that you have to dig yourself out of... JUST TO MAKE IT REVENUE NEUTRAL!
So... if it's NOT a tax increase for the middle class, and it's not a tax decrease for the rich, what the f@#k is it? Is it... a net NOTHING?
And so you picked 20%... kinda like someone we know that picked "9, 9, 9". Why 20%? Is there some science or data or history or economic brain trust behind 20%? Why not 50%? Sh!t, why not a 100% tax cut? Let's just take the "voodoo" magic of trickle down economic to it's conclusion... just give it all to the rich and see how much we all get as left-overs.
There isn't a right winger or even an under-grad economist that would stand up and defend Romney's new-found brain fart.... it's called distraction... it's called "changing the game"... it's called manipulation for the sake of manipulation and confusion.... and it worked.
We need to reverse this insanity and put his brain fart back where it began...
shaak,
USA Today, LA Times, CBS...
Is that real enough for you?
Another "success" for Obama's policy: US-OUT, Russia-IN!
Russia s securing of a military base lease in Tajikistan till 2042 means that it will be committed to stabilizing Central Asia including by tackling the Taliban according to Russian and international analysts Their reactions came after on Friday Russian President Vladimir Putin struck a deal with Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon to extend the lease of the Russian military in the Central Asian republic by 30 years The deal means that Russia agrees to use military force to maintain peace in Central Asia a region that is set to grow much more turbulent after the US forces pull out of Afghanistan in 2014 commented pundits as cited by RIA Novosti Destabilization is imminent in Central Asia after US troops pullout from Afghanistan Russian analysts said The Taliban is hoping to return to power in Afghanistan or at least increase their influence which would likely resonate throughout the region said Alexander Knyazev from the Institute of Oriental Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences Tensions between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are also riding high due to the conflict over the Rogun Dam which is in the works in Tajikistan he said The situation inside Tajikistan is shaky as well as evidenced by a recent spate of violence in the Gorno-Badakhshan province where the government failed to suppress a rebellion by a local warlord in July and had to negotiate said Vladimir Bartenev head of the Center for Security and Development Studies at the Moscow State University.
The best thing that will come from an Obama win, will be the marginalization of Karl Rove and Grover Norquist. They'll be toast.

The best thing that will come from an Obama win, will be the marginalization of Karl Rove and Grover Norquist. They'll be toast.
I'll drink to that.
4 more years
Obama/Biden 2012
I am with you.
But even more so all the money the billionaires have invested in the Mitt project.
Do any Rethugs making under a million really think that they will benefit from Mitty running things. As he said he does not believe in the 47%. Oh yea he went to Faux News and now said that he was wrong.
Say anything Mitty......
One debate does not make....remember that. Ronald Reagan lost his first as an incubent.
The bottom line, Willard Romney the talking lying buffoon will never ever be elected to the office of the President of the United States.
Bottom line. Romney will win in November and Obama can go back to Chicago where he belongs.
Bottom line: Adelson and the Kochs will be out hundreds of millions with nothing whatsoever to show for it.
Adelson, Trump, and the Koch's..............Greed at its worst. The poster boys for the 1% present an ugly picture of the rich in America.
Grover Norquist is an economic idiot and I would guess an anarchist at heart.
Karl Rove thinks he knows best. Incredible after 8 years as Bush's Brain. We probably blame bush for too much as Dick Cheney and Karl Rove exerted great influence on him.
Its time for the government to do accurate reporting.
When you add those who have given up finding work, whose unemployment benefits have been exhausted, and those who can only secure part time work,-
THE REAL UNEMPLOYMRNT RATE STANDS AT 14.6% according to the CBO report.
200,000 jobs for September were needed to keep pace with growth not 114,000 so where does the admin get the idea that the unemplyment rate goes down instead of up.
Even the CEO of GE and many other business leaders are challenging the numbers and the fuzzy math.
Does anyone know how many baby boomers left the work force and took Social Security at 62 rather than at 66?
Why does that matter?
It matters because it affects the Social Security program. More money coming out at a faster pace.
Baby boomers are leaving the work force at a rate of 10,000 per day. That count is those boomers reaching 65. If more are taking social security at 62 then even more are leaving the work force. This has a real affect on the labor count and on the social security program.
Was Not these same boomers contributing to SS? All year Rethugs have harped on the fact that the rate was above 8%. Now as expected the same source that was being quoted from are saying that numbers were cooked.
One question: Was it not during the Bush years when things got really bad. Two Wars with no way to finance them. I would like to hear one Rethug explain how was these wars funded?
The wars were funded on the credit card. Pure and simple.
I wonder if war is exempt from Romney's criterion for cutting out expenses:
"If it's not worth borrowing money from China to pay for it, then I'll cut it out". So far, it seems that only applies to Big Bird.
I know several people that got laid off and got unemployment and when it ran out when on SS @ 62 when their original intent was to wait until 65 -- part of the reason besides the inability to find a job is to at least get something of what they put into it BEFORE it goes belly up. My husband was able to wait until he was 67 (he wanted to wait until he was 70 to maximize the benefit), but I told him to take it now as he worked 40+ yrs and paid in he might as well get something back. Besides, I work and am only 55 and I don't think I'll see crap for anything I've paid in and it's 38yrs and counting! So at least I can see someone get it!
You sure married an old guy...
He was Dottie's teacher when she was in high school...........but that's another Newsvine story. :)
For all those that are not in the know, full retirement starts at 66 and will rise to 67 for the baby boomers. That was Reagans gift to the baby boomers. I for one am glad he is dead.
Me! Almost. I am 62 and retired, but have not filed for SS. But I intend to soon. If Obama wins I might wait, but if Robme wins I will go for it immediately so that I can get something out of it before Wall Street sucks SS dry.
Get em Dude!
Start throwing punches!!
Obama Biden 2012
Thomas, I fully expect the President to keep swinging and punching for the rest of the campaign.
Obama/Biden 2012
The Democratic campaign made a huge mistake telling Obama to play defense and not butt heads with Romney. You could see a few times he wanted to respond aggressively and restrained himself. He didn't look presidential and cool; he looked weary and aloof. There is no question Obama will not use that strategy a second time.
He was beaten because he has a poor record. Dismal actually. How can you defend the worst ever?
rukidding - we don't have to defend the worst ever. That's Bush and we all know he's the worst ever!
Obama/Biden 2012
SeekingSanity
Wrong again SS, Carter was the worse one. Google it girlfriend, since I do not have to prove that and everyone knows it.
SS - actually to be fare worse thanCarter was, Drum roll please.......
Blame Bush for everything. But he was and is still better then the Clown you are supporting.
That's a clown comment, bro!
'Blame Bush for everything' - hey, if the shoe fits...
Actually I blame Ronald Reagan, his presidency defined greed. He started the ball rolling for the shrinking of the middle class and the weakening of unions which led to greater poverty. If it wasn't for Bush, Clinton had things going in the right direction and Bush sure fixed that. My vote has to be for George W. Bush being the worst in my lifetime with Reagan holding onto a close second. Obama you fools has thing turned around again and moving in the right direction. Stupid conservatives are doing every thing they can to demonize what might be the greatest president in my lifetime with Clinton being that now. I have to agree, four more for forty-four.
Another "success" for Obama's policy: US-OUT, Russia-IN:
Well, we certainly see a much more agressive pres., for which I am happy. We who RESPECT and SUPPORT him know that he will be much more assertive and forthcoming in the next debate, it a "Town Hall" format in which he is always very good. On a different note, I cannot understand what is going on, with some of the people on this vine. The bitter, divisive, rehtoric, and sheer DISRESPECT, towards our President, and those who agree with him, the SHEER NASTINESS, and insulting comments being thrown around, are enough to make me SICK! Now, I FULLY believe in freedom of speech, and the right to disagree. BUT it seems to me that all the NASTINESS, could be toned down just a tad. Just because someone holds a different point of view from someone else, is no reason to hurl hateful, or sexist, or partisan insults at them. Oh, I realize that that has become the way of things, ever since the year 2000, but, as the years have gone by the, divisiveness has gotten WORSE, and that is EXACTLY what the extreme right has been working towards! Keeping ALL of us distracted with FIGHTING amongst ourselves, while they move their agenda of repression forward, with very little or NO resistance,I just hope that at least SOME of you come to realize it, GOODNIGHT AND GOOD LUCK.
If one wants to rate Presidents by net job creation, then the 4 worst ones were all republicons. Here is job created per year in office.
George W. Bush - 375,000
Dwight Eisenhower - 438,000
George H. W. Bush - 625,000
Gerald Ford - 745,000
Harry Truman - 1,100,000
John F. Kennedy - 1,200,000
Richard Nixon - 1,700,000
Ronald Reagan - 2,000,000
Lyndon Johnson - 2,300,000
Jimmy Carter - 2,600,000
Bill Clinton - 2,900,000
Clotho obama his had his clocked cleaned and he wasn't holding back. He wanted to talk but he was too dumbfounded. Romney throws alot of numbers, does alot of research, and quite frankly his big toe is smarter than obama. I work with some folks that went to school with, worked with, and still work with more senators, presidents, governors, and congressman than you can count name in a couple hours.
One went to school with "W" and was always beat in sports by him. He no like "w" much and yet the words he had coming out of his mouth was not obama is the man. Not that he was competent. Not that he could have did better. They sad Romney used obama like a tisue and discarded him in kind.
They know I dislike obama and they sure as heck had nothing positive to say about oh bama. Nothing not one word. They wanted to say something. Apparently their advisors told them to hold back too!!! LOL
obama might as well have sent a primate out to fling dung around. At least he would have looked smarter. I can't think of one time I have ever thought of this man as intelligent and he continues to prove me right.
The numbers as down because retailers are hiring seasonal workers for the holidays nothing more. Happens every year at this time. But since I'm not a drunkard or a democrat I remember this when fall is in the air. Fotball party's, halloween, school starting back up, thanksgiving aroung the corner, and many other activities come about this time of year. Crops are harvested too! Not rocket science. With the markets as high as they are and have been, interest rates very low, seasonal upswing the rate should be more like 6% and yet its not even close yet.
The new Republican strategy is to let "Mutt Will Rob-me" say anything to get elected. Why aren't they complaining about his new "moderate" position? Anything, as long as he gets in. After the election, if he loses, you'll hear them condemn him as a man who didn't stick to his principles. They have all the bases covered.
Lie and deceive your way in, and then march onward with the right wing agenda.
There I fixed it..
After the election, WHEN he loses, you'll
And I fixed that!
The man will say absolutely anything. He has proven that time and time again.
Of course, NOBAMA will say anything to get elected!!!
Dow going up more and the unemployment rate dropping that's always good for America!!!
DOW is going up because Romney is leading and the smart people want to get in the market before it skyrockets!!
Hussein: Let me be clear, I'm not trying to score political points. But....uhh.....pssst!!....hey, Lockheed, I need you to delay those layoff notices until AFTER the election, ok????
And Lockheed has complied -- hmmmmm union influence?
Except that it's likely to backfire as the workers know the cuts are coming, just not who will lose their jobs. More uncertainty about their jobs generated, more likely that they'll vote against Obama as they know that he's the one responsible for not letting them know who.
A healthy economy has unemployment between 4-5%. Our economy is still very sick. Romney is the best doctor. He'll let the JOBS out!
He will save us the way Dr. Benjamin Rush saved President Washington...
(I love doctor jokes)
Where? In China?
Todd - I think you should go see the doctor. Romney is a mess. His only record as a job creator is as governor of Massachusetts where he ranked 47th of 50 states and left after one term with a 30% approval rating after skyrocketing debt. His record of job destruction at Bain is not what we need.
dangerfield
... as a good Jewish mother would say, "son it is wonderful that you became President, but oy vey couldn't you become a doctor like Golda's son?
haha...I was counting on you to be one of the few who would actually get the joke...
(without having to use Wikipedia)
dangerfield, humor is the only sword worth living with and dying by.
Upset.
When he was elected they were 50th but when he left they were 28th, and the only reason there were not more jobs created is because they were at full employment with a percentage at 4.6%.
It is hard to create jobs when everybody who wants one has one.
jerry- no when Romney left Mass they were 47th. He didn't raise taxes in Mass but had the largest fee increases across the board that the state had ever seen. Thus everyone paid much higher fees for everything. He was so hated he didn't run for a 2nd term. He is still so hated there he can't carry the state!
Next?

From FACTCHECK.ORG
That ranking remained 50th during Romney’s first year in office, but by his final year, it had improved to 28th.
SS,
Job growth in Massachusetts rose at a rate of 1.5 percent (compared to the national average of 5.3 percent), placing Massachusetts 47th of the 50 states in new job creation over the course of Romney’s term.[64] The annual rate of job growth was improving by his last year in office, moving Massachusetts up from last place nationally to 28th.[64][65]

9ball -
That would be Obama doing that. You know GM, GE and the other democrat donors opening plants in China while closing plants in the US.
Where is any proof the Romney can create jobs in this country? He worked for a company that bought companies, then sold them off the pieces. All he has ever done was order some manager to hire people for that company. That is not job creation, it's job hiring. To create policy and conditions for many business sectors to create jobs is something totally different. When did Romney, while at Bain, do anything close to that?
full employment with a percentage at 4.6%.
That's because most of the unemployed left the state!
If Romney was a doctor he would be a quack. Oh, he already is a quack pot.
Some strange comments from both sides of the aisle this morning. That being said, I agree with Mr. Haas that the numbers just will not work for me. If the number LEAVING the workforce (356,000) is greater than the number ENTERING the workforce (114,000), how can this reduce the unemployment rate? As a mathematician, I can only find three ways this can happen:
1. A huge number of people (approximately 900,000) enter the workforce in some mysterious way not connected to the number of new jobs, or
2. A huge number of people (more than 356,000) leave the universe of availabe workers, or
3. Someone's in the kitchen with BLS.
Before you decide, please GOOGLE, or BING, or YAHOO and read about the following:
The Constitution of the United States;
Josef Stalin;
Mae-tse-tung;
Frank Marshall Davis.
Examine what you find against your personal philosophy and decide what you want for you and your posterity. Free or nanny. You can't have both.
Perhaps the employees at the Department of Labor and Statistics are a little better at numbers than you think.
This conspiracy baloney is exactly that - baloney.
When the numbers are bad for the President, the GOP and TP say they are right, but when the numbers make the President look good, they say the numbers are manipulated.
The TP has reduced the GOP to absurdity.
The faces of the morning Fox blabbers were hysterical when they had to read the job and unemployment numbers. Now they are claiming that the numbers were cooked by Obama. Oh PLEASE righties: keep spouting these delusions. The Teabaggers are on life support and the MRI registered no brain activity
They all of a sudden found 853,000 jobs that were not counted before the highest amount since 1982. Of this happened under a Republican President would you have questions.
Here comes the post debate bounce!
Virginia Rasmussen:
Romney 49% Obama 48%
Ah, just a few weeks ago the lefty commenters were spiking the football, saying Virginia was lost to Romney...
Bob in VA - Virginia IS lost to Romney - wait and see!
Obama/Biden 2012
polls are valid at the time they're taken. They're good for candidates to know where they're standing and make adjustments. That's how I interpret the polls. If I am behind in the polls I would say they'll change. There no reasons to argue.
O is killing the coal industry and the Virginians want to vote for him -- here I thought Virginia was smart, you know who's buttering your bread. Guess they'll enjoy plain bread from the unemployment line when O "finishes what he started". Oh and those defense cuts -- hmmmm aren't there military installations in Virginia -- aaahhhh Norfolk comes to mind.
D's girl: the only thing killing the coal industry is the free market: coal-fired plants are closing all over the country because natural gas produces electricity at half the cost of coal.
In Michigan, we are moving toward renewable energy, by 2020 it should be about 25% of the total resource. Its simple really, coal/oil is poison.
Screw you dirty, nasty air polluting coal. Did you ever see anyone die from having black lung. If you did you would think twice before you praise the coal industry. I watched my grandfather die a little more each day after working for thirty two years in the coal mines. It's not a sight you could easily forget.
I think it is clear to almost everyone now that there are at least 2 Mitt Romneys. If they didn't see them before they will be able to see them after todays headlines. So which Mitt Romney will show up for the next debate and which would show up to be Pres. if he is elected?
Two Romneys?? I think we're on Romney 7.0. I don't really know. I've lost track.
Either would be better than Obama.
prog.1 - Even ONE Romney is one too many! Please - send him back to the Caymans!
Obama/Biden 2012
Go ahead libs, keep spiking the football over one cooked BLS report. Coincidence that the first good report comes two days after BHO fell asleep while debating!!
Hotrod2 - "cooked" report. Sheish! You Republicans are all alike. You're totally stupid and thrilled to shout it at the top of your lungs!
Obama/Biden 2012
That's right In-sanity come back with name-calling. That is the only way you wonderful, love everybody libs are! Look in your own mirror and see how incredibly hypocritical you are!!
The good thing is I will not have to stay up late to hear the election results. It will be called early for Romney.
The fun will begin when I get to hear you fools complain about it was rigged and all that. Priceless.
In what year will that be 2020. So I guess you wom't hav to stay up for that. Even then he wouldn't win.
Let's see....Four years to reduce unemployment from 8% to 7.9%. Wow, Obama is a genius! 40 more years of Obama and we might get it down to 7%. Now that is good economic policy.
It briefly spiked at 10% during the Great Recession. So that's a reduction from 10% to 7.8%, despite the intransigence of the Republicans. Not that shabby.
It was 8% when Obama became president, and it's 7.9% now. That's 0.1% reduction in four years. As Obama said, it's simple math..... All this while adding $1 trillion to the deficit.
Again with the republican math, all that proves is Bush was a terrible economist/president. His policy's led to this recession and while Obama has had trouble fixing it, the size of the problem was part of that but obstruction by congress has led to the biggest blockage. You stinking conservatives built that.
Ayup! Bush/cheney has the worst record on job creation on record. He averaged 375,000 a year, while bill Clinton averaged 2,900,000 jobs per year. Shucks, Jimmy Carter averaged 2,600,000 jobs per year!
And when carter went out of office we were still in the recession that started in 1976. course jimmy did give us the current iran.
Romney sure sounds a lot like Dukakis in 1984 when he tries to tell Americans there is a difference in the jobless numbers.
Seriously, can't remember a politician using that line since Reagan pointed out that unemployment had significantly fallen from 10% to the level is was in 1984
What's next, is Romney going to talk fast like Dukakis so Americans can't understand him?
I'll bet you still put out milk and cookies for Santa too if you believe this BS.
Only problem is that Reagan ran against Mondale in 1984 so I'm not sure exactly why anybody was interested in Dukakis.
Since when is 7.8% unemployment something to be proud of? Really? Wake up America!!!
Its a lot more to be proud of then losing 700000 jobs a month. Via George W. Bush
anyone who does not see this BS for what it is deserves to be a government slave. Still creating less than half the number of jobs needed for a stable economy, somehow the jobless rate magically drops. Just before the election too. What a coincidence.
Of course the economists cannot explain it but we know the government when never lie to us. Especially the Dept of Labor headed by the former VP of the AFL-CIO.
So far every economists is having difficulty explaining this massive drop.
"Government is the only thing we all belong to."
Words of wisdom from the great Hussein....
Its important to understand that this employment figure is derived from a random telephone survey of 50,000 households, that's all it is. With over 100 million workers, this is no more accurate than a Robocall telephone poll. The BLS numbers show that the actual jobs count is down again for the third consecutive month to circa 114,000 for September. It takes a round 250K per month to keep up with population growth.
Accidental double post.
More lies from the democrats ...There arent any new jobs its the people that have lost their benifits and are no longer being counted .
Well isnt that effin convenient!!
Can you imagine Dana Carvey's "Church Lady" with that line ???
"WELL ISN'T THAT CONVEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNIIIIIEEEEENNNNTTTT !
Or, as mark Twain would say, there are 3 kinds of lies "Lies, damned lies and statistics". If he had met Barack Obama, I'm sure he would have added a fourth category beyond that !
AARP Calls Obama a Liar!:
AARP is reminding voters that it's not endorsing any candidates after President Barack Obama cited the group in the first presidential debate.
Obama mentioned the lobbying organization for seniors twice Wednesday in discussing Medicare and Social Security. He noted that AARP supports his health care law and opposes the voucher-like program Republican Mitt Romney has proposed for Medicare in the future.
AARP's senior vice president, John Hishta, says AARP is nonpartisan and has never consented to the use of its name by any campaign or political group and doesn't take sides in political races.
Hishta said in a statement released after the debate in Denver that voters deserve more than sound bites about Medicare, Social Security and other programs for seniors.

Hope -
AARP may claim that they do not back political parties, but they signed on to Obamacare as they stood to gain from it. It's why so many are no longer joining them and are actually leaving their membership.
Very true, Tammy ! They were bought by the promise to be able to profit from selling prescriptions in return for endorsing Obamacare.
Hey Hope, you guys are toast : 7.8 percent is the number Romney will be defeated by at the end of the election!
Wow, what happened to reality. Firstly, economists stated while Bush was still president when this recovery starts it's going to be very slow because it was such a huge down turn. Of course, now the Righties are blaming Obama for the recovery being too slow. I'm really getting sick and tired of the Republican fantasy world that never seems to include any facts. If Americans truly like Republicans and must therefore mean that they are like Republicans. I've never seen so many in a political group that were so stupid, lying, distorting, and generally out of touch with facts. I seriously hope Americans really don't like the psychos in the Conservative party.
. I'm really getting sick and tired of the liberal fantasy world that never seems to include any facts. If Americans truly like liberals and must therefore mean that they are like liberals. I've never seen so many in a political group that were so stupid, lying, distorting, and generally out of touch with facts. I seriously hope Americans really don't like the psychos in the liberal party.
Crystal - if you've never seen such a stupid group before then just look in the mirror. Stupid, ignorant, no integrity. no clue what's going on, lying, disgusting and totally out of touch with reality -that's you!
Obama/Biden 2012
John, Mr. Wonderful said that if he didn't turn the economy around in three years, he would be a one-term President. If it was so dire back in 2008, why would he make such an outlandish claim?? Maybe because of the narcissistic, god-complex that he has??
dont see how calling people names advances your point... obama PROMISED to cut the deficit in 1/2... but has DOUBLED it.... the DEBT is the biggest threat to our freedom at this time.. obama has PROVED he cant manage OUR money... go MITT!!!!!
Stupid, ignorant, no integrity. no clue what's going on, lying, disgusting and totally out of touch with reality
and lets not forget - PROBABLY HOME SCHOOLED
Nice, we finally got below the number that we had to spend $775 billion on to not go over.
FYI - This was the same exact unemployment rate when Reagan was reelected! Chew on that RWNJs!
What was the deficit then? Did Reagan spend 6 trillion to get to that number?
Repubs have short memories. Reagan increased the deficit 188% building space junk that never made it into space. George W. 100%+. Obama less than 50%. If you attribute current spending on Iraq and Afghanistan to Bush, which you should, then Obama has increased the deficit even less. Two past presidents (both Republican) are responsible for more than half the deficit this country has built up over 236 years!
Sorry to be pedantic, but the unemployment rate in November 1984 was 7.2%. Still, under 8% will do a lot to help Obama's reelection changes, which were already looking quite good. And yes, Reagan spent a huge amount of stimulus money and hired a lot of new government workers to help lower unemployment until the private sector picked up. It's what you're supposed to do in a recession.
Reagan is the king of deficit spending. He tripled the debt. No other President has ever done that. Not even Dubya, though he added more debt than Reagan.
Remember the famous Darth Cheney quote: "Ronald Reagan proved that deficits don't matter".
Obama has amassed more debt, in dollars, in one term ($6 trillion) than any other president, no one else is even close.
The rate when Reagan was reelected was 7.2%.
one reason the unemployment rate dropped at all was continuation of the Bush tax cuts, the only good decision made by Owebama besides greenlighting Osama's death. Regretably the number of workers who gave up looking for work is 4 times those who found mostly part time employment.
Job report triggers new trutherism, according to formerGE CEO Jack Welch on HuffPost. An Obama
Conspiracy, etc. Which reminds me that Mr Welch once said, There is no place at General Electric
for the eternal optimist. I say not true,my husband says true. And they don't call it the battle of the
sexes for nothing:o) TGIF Have a nice day all!!!
Jack Welch is a fraud. Ask Jack Welsh why General Electric has moved tens of thousands of jobs (manufacturing, engineering, marketing) to China? Ask Jack Welsh why Old White Republicans have a problem accepting the fact that Americans elected a Black Man to be POTUS? Ask Jack Welsh why he comes off as pre-dementia when discussing the Labor Department Numbers that present a 7.8% unemployment number? Frankly, 7.8% is not that great, but the Republicans and the billionaires, like Jack Welsh, who back Mitt Romney are interested in changing the tax code for themselves, and not one of them, especially General Electric, have created one new manufacturing job in the United States. Jack Welsh comes off as a little man trying to be a tough guy on the playground at a middle school. Sorry Jack, your money is going down a rathole if you are counting on Mitt Romney to win this election. I have not met one woman, Republican, Democrat, or Independent who is not afraid of a Supreme Court that will erase all of the gains in women's rights achieved over the last forty years. Republicans are nothing more than old white bigots.
In the debate, Obama tanked big time. Even his loyal supporters couldn't believe what a stunningly bad job he did. But another thing that was most telling for me was what he did with his failure the day after.
Did Obama go out and say he had a bad night, or he could've done better or would most certainly will do better? No. Not even close. The entire spin he chose to give his lousy performance was that Mitt said things he didn't expect. And apparently he was caught off guard?
Both candidates had all of the material that would be covered in the debate well before the debate.
Obama didn't acknowledge his failure let alone own up to his failure in the debate. He blamed the other guy. This speaks voulmes about Obama.
Obama blames other people whenever possible and I was very surprised that he didn't own the dismal debate performance, accept it, acknowledge it, and move on. But he chose the blame route and I would say that approach is not new for Obama.
one of the funniest moments of the campaign:
Ryan, acceptance speech, RNC convention: "what we won't do is spend 4 years blaming the previous administration" Riiiiiight. R/R would NEVER do that!
And how do you know this? Are you psychic? Did you just predict that Romney would win?
Portland, Obama responded today: "Romney is a liar." Liars can talk fast, show remarkable ebullience, and appear charismatic. Nevertheless, they remain liars. Today, Obama's life changed dramatically with a figure known as "7.8 percent." That is the number of victory.
Obama should know about lying he has been doing it since he got in office. Hopefully the economy is turning around but I don't believe Obama had anything to do with it. This news will not change my mind. A little to late from America's biggest loser.
You will see a jobs bump due to seasonal hiring.. Please stop getting so fanatical on one month's data. It took four years to achieve this milestone.. It is good but temper that with a little bit of individual thought. Both of the candidates need to state clearly how we move forward with increasing jobs much more than this.
The president can't celebrate this.. There is still a ton of work to do to get more people back to work.. 23 million out of work.. 100,000 is a good start but I wouldn't be running the victory lap on this just yet.
