Obama: 'Don’t expect to see that Obama again'

“A stunned Obama campaign acknowledged Thursday that President Barack Obama delivered a lackluster and even ineffectual performance in his leadoff debate against Mitt Romney, mistakenly opting for a cautious approach to handling his opponent that all too often left Obama looking timid and disengaged,”   Politico  writes, adding, “Even more frustrating to many Obama supporters was the fact that the president’s muted tone was at least partly by design. … Projecting a calm, reasonable — some said ‘presidential’ —demeanor was the strategy during Obama’s debate-prep sessions outside of Las Vegas.”

But “one Democrat close to Chicago conceded that Obama 'was not happy with his performance.'” And: "Don't expect to see that Barack Obama again."

Obama adviser David Axelrod: “There is some strategic judgment that has to be made, and we’ll make it. I’m sure that he will consider his approach moving forward.” And: Plainly, he didn’t come as focused and intense as Gov. Romney at dropping particular lines. His interest was in honoring the American people with honest answers to serious questions.”

The Obama campaign’s up with an ad in swing states goes after Romney’s assertion that he doesn’t have a tax plan that he’s not in favor of a $5 trillion tax cut. The kicker in the ad: “If we can’t trust him here…” [shows him on debate stage] “…how can we ever trust him here?” [shows the desk in the Oval Office].

Ron Brownstein: “President Obama didn’t have many good moments in this week’s first presidential debate. But it was telling that the few came when he was raising objections to Mitt Romney’s tax, spending, and Medicare plans. The president had much less to say about his own ideas for the next four years. In that way, the debate spotlighted the biggest hole in Obama’s reelection effort: the paucity of specifics he has offered about his second-term agenda.”

Obama at a campaign stop in Denver: “When I got onto the stage, I met this very spirited fellow who claimed to be Mitt Romney. But it couldn’t have been Mitt Romney, because the real Mitt Romney has been running around the country for the last year promising $5 trillion in tax cuts that favor the wealthy. The fellow on stage last night said he didn’t know anything about that.”

(So, we guess it wasn’t the altitude…)

More Obama, this time from Madison, WI: “I just want to make sure I've got this straight: He'll get rid of regulations on Wall Street, but he’s going to crack down on ‘Sesame Street'? Thank goodness somebody’s finally cracking down on Big Bird.”

“The Obama campaign set a new monthly fundraising record for the 2012 election cycle, taking in more than $150 million in September as supporters rallied behind the president in the final phase of the election, according to people familiar with the totals,” the Wall Street Journal writes.

I guess it's good that the president will be more...presidential next go round. On Wednesday he looked like a second string debater on a third rate debate team.

I just want to make sure I've got this straight: He'll get rid of regulations on Wall Street, but he’s going to crack down on ‘Sesame Street'? Thank goodness somebody’s finally cracking down on Big Bird.”

Ha ha, funny funny. Now explain to the people (you know, the voters) why the ambassador to Libya was screaming for more security, was murdered, and you blame some lame video. Explain why the economy is still in a rut after you promised to fix it in your first term. Explain why people are dissatisfied with the performance of the DC insiders (of which you are one, whether you like it or not).

Have you ever tried to debate someone who lies constantly? None of us know what Mitt Romney's plans are. One day he says he isn't raising taxes on the middle class, one day he says he won't raise taxes on the upper class, one day he says he his pro choice and the next day he says he is pro life...How can anyone debate someone who just won't tell the truth? The only thing Mitt said that I take as truth is that he will kill National Public Television.

Chef Darrel: We all are still waiting for Mitt's tax returns, to see if we are paying a higher % of federal taxes than him! That's a deal breaker for me! Why didn't Mitt have anything to say, when Mormon polygamist Prophet, Warren Jeffs was given 115 years, for raping and marrying 12 year old girls. Mitt's ancestors were polygamists AFTER UTAH BECAME A STATE.

Wrong! Presidents are by design not part of Washington insiders. His official home is White House in Washington. When you talk of insiders in Washington, you are talking most of Congress and Senates. The big money lobby for outside interest is what make most of those congress men and women rich. When you are NOT Penniless but not that rich, You are guaranteed to be millionaire in a year as congressman. Most of those called Lobby are backhands or to simply put as bribery. Most of their salaries (Real) average $220000 - $250000 a year... Now you work it ou on they get rich quicker.

I have read many comments and get irritated by some. If you are reading news on MSNBC and you know you are a bit illiterate in the Parts of Governments, no other commentator have time to make you understand.. Go and watch black and white Stewart's political film (Cant remember the name). You will get more info in that than I can give you. Any President have no more than roughly 25% of power. and the whole Congress don't collectively have more than that. Laws get signed only when Congress and Senate have voted in agreement on any particular bill.

7.8 without Republican support of Job act is excellent. For people like you who may be doubting it, Why did you fail to doubt 8,3 or even 10 in 2010? I like Obama and can have issue with why the previous two months had been lower that were stated.. So guys on the other side, live with it.

As Ghandhi said, "intolerance is a form of aggression " Be tolerant. We are born human 1st b4 religions and political belief. If you are not Romney' son and hope to be ahead and join the rich one day; but might need help when you find yourself in trouble, Obama is your man. If you are either born into money and never know what it is to walk at least five miles due to lack of train fare rather than out of necessity, Your family are RICH enough to finance your educations and you even feel that you might not need to struggle for your health problem alarm, Romney is your man.

The last debate means nothing. Even if Mitt Romney REALLY and TRULY change to helping everyone after that secret tape of 47 % that will not be cared for. He will not be allowed to do it by right wing and true conservatives. Of course Romney was saying everything to get elected. One point he said on MSNBC that he was not going to repeal all OBAMACARE. What happen the following day? His Campaign said he mispoked. Trust him at your own peril. Like Bush starting Iraq war over rumoured attempted assassination of his father, Romney is simply trying to outdo his own father and make the rich richer. A guy who hide money in Swiss and Cayman Islands is never going to be interested getting much revenue to cater for the country as a whole.. Trust me that is the truth. bye all

They will prove he was not born here and attended school free as foreign student. And why don't you ever wonder about the fact that usama gives billion to the muslim brotherhood 3.1 billion so far. Half was after they sacked our embassy. That money could have gone to the seniors of this country that are on social security legally, yes the ones that actually paid into the system for their retirement. Most of these people live on less than a 1000 dollars per month. We know you are in usamas pocket, ask him about these failures of his. Why do you think he lost the debate, his record is deplorable and he is useless and lazy, can't even be bothered to meet his security advisors.

The thing that makes me mad is that we don't want political strategy or "maybe it's best to lay low" nonsense. Just be honest and passionate and deliver your ideas. Point out what's wrong with the other persons ideas. This isn't a perception game, we are paying attention this election and looking for a leader.

I think it is astonishing how for eight years your ilk gave the inept former Governor of Texas all the patience in the world while he was single handedly ruining our country's economy, international prestige and lives of ordinary people in the US. But since Obama has not performed a daily miracle without an iota of cooperation from the NO-nothings on the GOP side of the aisle, to reverse all of the harm W did, he's a bum. Stop using a double standard and let the man finish what he started.

All Obama has done is blame Bush or repubs for his failures. In reality, Obami does not know how to create more jobs.

Romney helped boost the state of Mass. with an 87% dem majority. He knows how to work across the aisle. Obama does not. He is all fluff and NO substance.

One last question: What do you think of Rev. Wright? Now, why would you trust someone who considers Rev. Wright a close friend and religious advisor? Remember, Obama only distanced himself from Rev. Wright months before the election because he knew any close affiliation with "The Good Rev. Wright" (what a frickin joke) would hurt his chances for election.

It amazes me how so many are fooled by Obama. He is a wolf in sheeps clothing. Another 4 years of this idiot and we are in deep sh*t.

Has anyone seen the recent jobs report??? Obama has us on the right track.

Less people employed in September than August. Less people employed in August than in July. Obamas census cabinet runs an employment survey evaluated by Obamas Department of Labor cabinet and magically unemployment drops from 8.1% to 7.8%. Just to keep things in perspective, with 23million out of work, something like 700,000 people went back to work in one month.

Gee, Nibor, sort of the opposite of the 800,000 people who lost their jobs every month in the waning days of George II. And if the fat cats weren't using the piles of cash to fatten their stock price and started hiring people again, this job crisis would be over by the end of this week.

Having debated formally and informally, IPCMFG, I can tell you it's much easier to spout random facts and outright lies than it is to try to present a coherent argument that pays real attention to what the facts actually are. When you feel no compunction about saying the first thing that comes into your head, you can appear quite in command - until someone actually looks at what you've said and realizes that if truth were nickels, you couldn't afford that day's paper. If mendacity were money, Romney would be the richest man in the world.

You are right about the unemployment benefits. The GOP refused to continue paying out unemployment benefits to those who were without jobs for more than a few months. The GOP will fund more for wars, give huge tax cuts, and will give billions in subsidies to oil corporations, but when it comes to average people they will cut their unemployment benefits off in a heartbeat. Their priorities are with the rich. They always have been. They even made fun of it in old westerns. If anyone became rich they would say I am a republican. If they lost the money then they were Democrats. Sadly today too many poor and unfortunate people will keep voting for the republicans. People like me feel sorry for the younger people coming up in Americans.

As as independent, I voted Obama last time. Why? I wanted us out of Afghanistan and Iraq. Should not have been over there to begin with. Even Michael Steele, Republican National committee, said so and got lambasted for it. If Russia pulled out in the late 80's after bankrupting their economy, Obama should of had all troops out 1 year after he got elected. (That's why I voted Obama, not McCain last time)

So much for hope and change. Obama has been a disappointment. Where are recent college graduates working today? Huge loans to pay back. A great majority moved back with their parents and work at Starbucks. Some future.

Some people are narrow minded thinkers, I don't see President Obama as being narrow minded. On the other hand, Romney made a comment that seemed to be rather misleading. It sounded as though Romney was trying to reintroduce church and state, as one in the same. At least on Sesame Street every one is equal. Everyone is welcome.

I love how people assume that anyone who doesn't consider themselves a republican, etc... is an uneducated fool. I do not consider myself a democrat or republican because I am disgusted by the actions and words of people in both parties. NOT EVERYONE, but a select few individuals on both parties with crappy attitudes about the oponents will do anything they can to make the other one look terrible. There are many of us who are very educated about the issues and I don't rely on the stinking media for truth because you will not get it... PERIOD!!! I love how we are encouraged to speak our minds we are, but what kind of example are we setting for the next generation of this country who will lead us one day. All they see is a bunch of adults who can't be loving and excepting of one another. It's pretty easy to spout off crap online, but would we be able to say all this to someones face... PROBABLY NOT. That's what makes it so easy, because we don't have to actually look these people in the eyes and say the same things. I am a christian wife and mother who believes that we have lost sight of the fact that this country was formed around God and loving one another. We do alot of complaining verbally about how bad the country is and how are rights are being infringed upon, but talking and complaining about it changes nothing; if you really want to things to change, stop talking about it, get up off our butts and go to washington!!! Nothing happens by just talking amonst ourselves. The bumper sticker on the back of my van says it all;"I guess the love one another thing was just too complicated."

Obama has let the citizens of this country down. He promised transparency he delivered lies and cover-ups (Fast & Furious, Libya). He campaigned against lobbyist in 2008and in 2009 used the same lobbyist on his health care bill (Billy Tauzin). He makes statements designed to get people to back him that when analyzed make no sense. Such as; Who thinks Exxon needs more money? When actually he canceled drilling leases that cost the country over a trillion dollars in lost revenues. He lied about the assault on our Ambassador Stevens in Libya death not being a pre-planned terrorist act, did not even use the word terrorist at UN speech, instead used movie trailer spin that he and the rest of the world knew was just a spin. We have a president who perpetuates the spin of the enemy. He completely mishandled Wall Street Bailout and blames that on Bush when it was Clinton who signed the bill into law that repealed Stegal-Glass. It goes on and on and anybody that in not Obama has my vote.

There was no lie that was told about the Libya attack. It took time to learn what happened there. What happened was terrible but it happened a world away. President Obama has kept lobbyists out of his administration. The GOP will have them right back in their offices in a second. Billy Tauzin is a republican thug that President Obama would never deal with on anything. President Obama does not blame Bush on TARP. Bush got half the funding to help the banks and President Obama got the other half when he took office. Democrats made sure the banks paid the money back with 10 percent interest when the GOP was going to give the banks a free ride. Glass-Steagall was something the GOP hated. They hate Dodd-Frank. They hate the Consumer Protection Agency that is now going after those who bilk consumers. Dodd-Frank is a very limited financial reform act. You are a liar and I am voting for President Obama even though I live in a republican state where people lie just like you do. You are watching Fox and other conservative sites to think the ignorance you state.

Funny how each of us see the same circumstances through such different lenses. I'm an educated woman in my 60's, amazed that anyone in the USA could believe the drivel that comes out of President Barack Obama's mouth. All one has to do is stand back with an open mind and look at him as a whole picture, past, present and future and know where this great land will be at the end of 4 years, just by the things he has said and done to this point. He lacks character and all the intelligence in the world cannot compensate for that. He has a political machine and the media behind him, accusing his rival, Mitt Romney, of the very things that Barack is guilty of. I'm hoping enough Americans do not drink the cool-aid.

Oh dear retirednow, tell us how you voted for George W. Bush TWICE, and what a great job he did. Clearly you were a Bush supporter, because you want to elect Romney now, who will double down on the Bush policies.

Of course, you don't care that the Republicans want to privatize Medicare, because you're already OLD, and Romney panders to you by saying the changes won't apply to you, oh no, not precious OLD you!

But the rest of us, when we are doddering folks with Alzheimer's, will be wrangling with private health insurance companies, unless we are too poor to afford the premiums, in which case, we'll be dumped into a government run program that will be going broke as the private companies will have the healthier seniors as clients. Gee, thanks for nothing "retirednow!"

I am "retired now" also and find it funny how anyone could believe the lies that come out of Romney/Ryan's mouths. Use FACT CHECK the next time he opens his mouth --- or should I say "mouths" because he has so many different personalities that it is hard to keep up with all his lies and different positions he has. In ONE SENTENCE he can change positions! He either has a personality disorder or is a pathological liar. Christian nation? The founding fathers are rolling around in their graves. You need to look back at some history books and quit listening to the garbage you are spewing. There is no place for religion in politics...separation of church and state....there is a reason for that. The real "christians' act like Jesus...not many of those out there. All I see are people judging and trying to push religion down other people's throats. Get a grip...not everyone in this country believes in religion.

Separation of church and state simply means as an example the catholic church can't put a candidate up for any office. matter of fact religion has intentional meaning in our rights - all our rights are given to us by our creator whatever the individual believes that to be. So religion plays a huge role in our government and our constitution as it was intended by our founding fathers to the individual running for office or any individual citizen. In short religion in our system has intent in our government to promote a moral people.

It’s not that I dislike Mitt Romney, it’s just, well geese…

Flip…Mitt Romney said…The Middle East will "remain an unsolved problem... and we will kick that ball down the field". He dismissed Israel's concerns about Iran as mere "noise" that he prefers to "block out." And at a time when Israel needs America to stand with it, he declined to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Flop…At the Fox News Google debate in September of 2011, Governor Romney was asked how he would address the middle east given the new realities in the region. He answered that the first action should be to ensure that everyone knows that the US will stand shoulder to shoulder with Israel and not let any light be shown between the two of you.

Flip…Mitt Romney said…"There are 47% who are with him(Obama)” (lower income families, elderly, veterans, disabled Americans) who are dependent upon government,” Mr Romney said in the video that his role "is not to worry about those people”.

Flop…“It’s not those at the low end and it’s certainly not for those at the very high end. It’s for the great middle class, the 80 to 90 percent of us in this country.”

Flip…Mitt Romney said…”I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country, and you will never see me wavering on that”.

Flop…"I believe people understand that I'm firmly pro-life.

Flipity-Flop…“When I am asked if I am pro-choice or pro-life, I say I refuse to accept either label.

Flip/Flop/Flip…On stem cell research…‘Look, you don’t have to think about this stem cell research as a moral issue, because we kill the embryos after 14 days.’

Flip…Mitt Romney said…“The middle class should not be expecting a cut in taxes because I'm also going to lower deductions and exemptions,”

Flop…“My own view with regards to tax policy is that we ought to provide help to the people that have been hurt most by the Obama economy, and that’s the middle class.”

Flip…Mitt Romney said… Millionaire Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Wednesday that he was seeking better tax policies for people in the middle class like himself.

Fact…The former Massachusetts governor has a net worth estimated at 250 million dollars.

Flip…“I think I’m best off to describe my own positions. And my positions, I think I’ve just described for you – secure the border, employment verification and no special pathway to citizenship.”

Flop…Mitt Romney said illegal immigrants should have a chance to obtain citizenship.”

Flipity Flop…Mitt actually employed a contractor, of whom had 5 illegal immigrants working at his site, on his own ranch.

Flip…Gov. Mitt Romney (R) signed a bill Wednesday (4-12-06) requiring all Massachusetts residents to purchase health insurance.

Flop…He’s now a critic of his own biggest achievement.

          Worth Repeating…

Flip…Mitt Romney said… Millionaire Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Wednesday that he was seeking better tax policies for people in the middle class like himself.

Fact…The former Massachusetts governor has a net worth estimated at 250 million dollars.

Mitt’s last words before killing of Osama Bin Laden…”It’s not worth moving heaven and earth just trying to catch one man.”

Mitt’s first words after killing of Osama Bin Laden…”Of course I would have given that order, even Jimmy Carter would’ve given that order.”

It’s not that I dislike the guy, but what the heck am I supposed to think…?

          - A key element of liberal, big-government, strategy is the portrayal of their candidate as a compassionate intellectual, in tune with the masses. Whereas, the conservative candidate is portrayed as far less intelligent and selectively focused on interest groups intent on restricting the role of government to negatively impact society.

          - Liberals are masters at pointing out actions, behaviors, mannerisms that indicate their opponents are out-of-touch and lack a necessary level intellect. Regarding the former, Romney is being attacked for being out of touch with main stream society. He's narrow-minded. He's uninspiring. He's ruthless. He's wealthy. He's male. He's white. He's Mormon. These attacks will continue to be effective. However, regarding the latter, Romney being intellectually deficient is not working. Wednesday's debate decisively demonstrated an intellectual imbalance to the detriment of liberal strategy.

          - The intellect reversal is now cast in stone. The liberal intelligentsia has been deeply wounded and admonished. This may very well undermine core support from within the liberal left and fracture liberal solidarity. This is not to say the attacks on Romney will subside... they will intensify. The liberal zealots are furious and will gerrymander "spears of fear" into the hearts of the masses. The conservative zealots will respond with renewed enthusiasm. It forecasts continued polarization and stagnation from zealots on both extremes.

          - Intelligence must trump a fear/extremism strategy.

So disappointed with the lack of christian love and acceptance in this country. We as american people spend 3/4 of our time bashing and putting down the other guy because they don't do things we would do them. I am not republican, nor democrat... There are issues on both sides I agree with. My question is, is that it is pretty easy to whine and complain about the country; but what are willing to get up and do to change it; are we willing to get up off our butts and physically go to Washington, are we willing to impeach/overthrow the whole government and take back our country? The sad answer is no. Most of the American people I hear and see will only complain amonst themselves(talk the talk), but NEVER physically try to do anything to stand up and change anything(walk the walk). I want this to be a country that my children can be proud of, but right now I don't see that kind of country in front of me. Like it or not, the founders of the constitution were Godly men, who believed that this was the best country in the world; right now I am not so sure with all the hate and violence going on. We need to stop being divided, accept our differences and work together to get America back on the right track again.

Hey Christianmomma...I'm getting mixed signals from your post. You seem to be promoting violence, while condeming it. No offense, but you sound young, and that's okay. In fact it's great. But try to understand. Violence is not the answer. We don't get up and march on Washington too very much, as we have all this great technology to work with. One day, they'll have us voting from our homes. My point is, politics is a nasty business. It's often ugly. Get up, get out, speak your peace, then vote. When it's done, it's done. This is America. We fight like family. With each other, and side-by-side. it's how we do our business. No one else is invited, but we let them throw in a few comments anyway. Peace be with you.

He clearly lost the debate. No matter that the debate was theaterical, he lost. In all good fights, whether they be politices or whatever, the best man doesn't win all the time, they do come out the final winner. That is what is going to happen. Mitt has too many skeltons.

I like to see him answer why he won't show his tax returns for the last 10 years like his father before him said all canidates must do. That will be knock out blow, and then come back with a haymaker on Bain, and all the flip flops he has done.
