Video: Obama stump speech lines don't pack same punch in debate

President Barack Obama employed some of his most popular campaign trail lines during Wednesday’s presidential debate in Denver, Colo., but they didn’t seem as effective as when delivered in front of a crowd of cheering supporters.

Well, not every audience can be cheering supporters like MSNBC.....

Over 3 minutes for 2 sentences? A little slow are we? And here I thought you would have something of consequence. Why am I not surprised.

After reflecting on this debate it really reminded me of "rope a dope". Let it all out Romney the dopehead and put all your cards on the table. OH, all you got is a pair of 3's and a 1 eyed Jack. Let's see what goes down when the gloves come off, much different I expect. It's just feels like quiet reserved patience on President Obamas part..........

Romney talked to Obama like a teacher explaining basic math to a slow pupil.

That's what America saw, it is forever how real Americans will view Obama.

As someone who just doesn't quite get it and we don't know if he ever will.

"not the real Romney"

Anyone who has bothered to take the time and research Romney knows the man we watched on stage was Romney. The intellectual lightweight fool who shared the stage with him?

We all know that was the real Obama.

No vision, no plan, no clue.

It's just feels like quiet reserved patience on President Obamas part..........

How comically deluded. The Romney campaign has not even begun. Next debate is on foreign policy.

The President had just been briefed that Syria had fired on a US ally, and that might bring the US's Nato commitments into play. This could bring the US into conflict with Russia.

Through this, the President remained composed while Romney bullied the moderator, and lied his a$$ off.

The next debate will prove more interesting.

Your scalawag charlatan remarks will soon fall on dead ears. Here's a zinger for you:

Still, it seems likely that Mr. Romney will make at least some gains in head-to-head polls after the debate, and entirely plausible that they will be toward the high end of the historical range, in which polls moved by about three percentage points toward the candidate who was thought to have the stronger debate.

Let me tell you a little secret. Our President does NOT have a magic wand to wave. We have a Congress and Senate. Those are the ones that should answer to the American People. President Obama SHOULD have a second term. He won't be campaigning and he will be able to make a LOT of Congress upset by working towards the goals of the Americans people.

Romney ... holy cow ... let's just say Koch, Adelson, and his flips. If he is elected President, who is driving the car? Ryan has a plan and Mitt endorses it one day and not the next.

      Layton...

Kind of a stretch questioning Mr. Romney's "business skills", don't you think ? No...you wouldn't think so at all.

He's one of 18 human beings in the 350+ year history of Harvard to graduate with a law degree AND a Masters in Business Administration on the same day...so he seemed to start out, well... not too shabbily. The only thing we actually know about Mr. Obama's education is that he is not one of those 18 human beings. Beyond that, Mr. Obama has a law firm that has kept his educational records sealed from any public viewing. That's fairly wierd stuff ! So we do know exactly what Mr. Romney's background is...the president's...well, not so much.

Mr. Romney founded and ran one of the most successful private equity firms in the nation...a company that the left's poster boy Bill Clinton says has a "sterling reputation". And with all the pissing and moaning folks like you did about your burning need to see a lifetime of his tax records, did you fail to notice that the man's business skills that you question have likely earned him well over a billion dollars in his career...I'd say his "skills" served him, well... not too shabbily. How did your "skills" work out for you ?

And you can bore the readers with some lame pout about all he ever did was fire people...which any non-poisoned mind knows is just a crock of crap. Spewing and spouting does not detract from the fact that Mr. Romney made himself into one of this country's most successful businessmen. Should Mr. Romney not win the election, perhaps he'll offer to provide training to Mr. Obama on how to work with others and bring opposing forces together to achieve common goals...like a successful businessman does...instead of being a pouty loner with barely a relationship with anyone in the Senate or House. Mr. Romney's accurate description of how he brought about major changes in Massachusetts' health care program by bringing both political parties together for a common goal...as opposed to the ham-handed methods employed by a feckless Mr. Obama to shove his messy ACA thru. It seems that Mr. Romney's "business skills" served both him and the state he governed, well...not too shabbily.

And Mr. Romney must have felt his "business skills" were at least sufficient enough to offer himself up to run the 2002 Olympics being held in this country right after the devastation the country felt after 9-11. An unpoisoned mind would know that when Mr. Romney stepped in to run the Olympic program it was an utter financial mess...yet the games went on superbly and what had been a financially bleeding program was turned into both a financial and athletic success. Once again it seems that he man's "business skils" had served both him and this nation, well...not too shabbily.

It's unfortunate that you are simply unimpressed with Mr. Romney's "business skills"...they just don't stack up in your eyes. The man probably falls asleep at night after tossing and turning and trying to figure out some way to impress this unimpressed fellow named 'Layton'. I hope at some point he'll abandon his frustration and just move on with his failure in life.

President Obama wants to speak to Americans directly. That's where he shines and that's when we as a nation shine. You can see it in the photos.

I get the impression Obama has zero respect for Romney, unlike John McCain. He seems to truly dislike Romney, particularly after the 47% remark. Put that together with the way Mitt handled himself during his trip overseas, and you see a man who doesn't represent America or americans very well.

Romney doesn't work, yet he has the audacity to call us moochers.

With Barack Obama we got a good man who is intelligent, thoughtful, hard working.

Yet the Republican Party, made up of mostly fake white angry males, have spent 4 years attempting to humiliate him and make him appear not up to the task of the job, which btw, none of them will ever get the opportunity to do.

They haven't figured out yet that we the people believe in him, and not in them. Mitt included. Obama will never stoop to their level. It's just not in him. If they had a back and forth screaming match, it would have tuned people out. Obama figured that out. The GOP will never figure that out.

Debates aren't like cable shows. Debates are about the presidency. Forget the performance. It's the substance that's important. And Romney showed no substance.

Did you guys get the email from the Obama campaign telling us what Romney sent out this morning - it said - Victory is in Sight.

      Damn right Romney.

Enjoy these photos while you can. The campaign is almost over. You'll never see another like him in our lifetime. In 4 years he'll be gone.

If you get the chance, go out and see him if he visits your area. Bring your children.

Truly spectacular photos. These people are not coming out to see a candidate, they're coming out to see their (our) president. A president they admire and respect and love.

We'll never again see this kind of relationship between the American people and a president again.

      Romney is selling AMERICA.

Not the watered-down crybaby tyranny laden version of the left.

I think I got a tingle down my leg last night. You could almost feel the veil of shame and depression being lifted as Romney schooled the puppet subject after subject as the puppet clinched his jaw in desperate defeat. One could actually feel pride returning for their country for the first time in four years. A sense of hope rushing unabated as a man of intelligence and vision revealed that the king wore no clothes and change was afoot.

It was epic. and apparently the drones missed it.

He dislikes Romney because he knows Romney is his death knell.

For whom does the bell toll?

      The bell tolls for Obama.

Does anyone know if Bill Clinton has endorsed Romney yet?

After last night I bet Obama went and early voted for Romney.

It is so hilarious watching the FR sycophants contort to worship their savior after witnessing he's just a snake handler who's been bit and crying out for someone to call 911.

      What were his lies?

      $90,000,000,000 Comment:

      Partially True:

Obama did use some of the $90b stimulus money to fund up and coming green energy companies. However Mitt gets into trouble when he asserts that all of the stimulus money went toward green energy instead of education and other areas. This was a lie, only a portion of that 90b went to green enr. and the rest went to other areas such as education and Government construction contracts.

      "I do not have a $5 Trillion tax-cut plan"

      False:

For 10 months Mitt has been dragging his tax plan around with him, he cannot claim in one night it never happened; there are much too many comments and video segments of him talking about it

"I will not turn Medicare into a voucher"

      False:

Under Romney's plan younger people who will be on medicare in the future will be given a voucher for a medicare policy or the choice to waive it and go with a private insurer. This, however, will not affect those about to be on medicare or that are already in the system; he told the truth on that.

"I will put $761B back into Medicare when I repeal Obamacare"

      False:

This is the exact same amount of money taken our of Medicare as proposed in the Ryan budget. In order for him to replace that money Romney would have to veto Ryan's plan and request a new plan be drafted.

Those were the lies he told, this does not include distortions though. There were several more of those.

      C. R. it is arrogant of you to assume that this election is over and done with. Did you have that same opinion of Regan when he lost his first debate? He went on to win the election. You cannot judge an election by only the first debate. Technically you cannot judge them by any of the Presidential debates.

Everything out right now indicates that Obama is going to take a hit from this debate in the polls however it will not be enough for Mitt to win in November. The race will tighten but it is still anyone's guess who is going to win in the end. Right now, at this moment though Obama has an edge on Romney and Romney still has plenty going against him.

We're leaving the snake handling to you. Jesus is my Savior. Obama is my President. Mitt Romney can't seem to decide who he should be on any given day. As Ann stated, she is worried about his mental health. The rest of us are as well. Schizophrenia is a difficult thing to deal with.

You can watch video of Romney taking a position on any issue. Then watch another of him taking the opposite position on that same issue, over and over and over again. Wait, He said he wants to get rid of the capital gains tax on meet the press, but I've never heard him counteract that one. Oh right, he gets almost all of his income through capital gains, so no more taxes for him.

      He is not presidential material.

      How funny!

      So now Romney is schizophrenic?

What does that make Obama other than brain dead?

      Jesus wouldn't vote for Obama.

Anyone who would waive sanctions to allow aid to those countries who would force children to fight in wars would not get Jesus's vote.

Anyone who would oversee a program that allowed criminals to get guns and kill hundreds of innocent Mexican nationals would not get Jesus's vote.

Anyone who would sponsor legislation promoting infanticide would not get Jesus's vote

Anyone who would order indiscriminate drone strikes on funerals and wedding parties would not get Jesus's vote.

Obama is your savior but you shall want, he will not walk beside you anywhere. He wants only your vote and nothing more.

      Amen

      Geowil

Obama will lose because he sucks as president and there are not enough brain dead drones to get him re-elected. It's just that simple.

The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting an inexperienced man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America . Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of Idiots such as those who made him their president."

Your argument is so good, because calling the majority of Americans, and democracy foolish is such a constructive and respectful thing to say. If you really believe that America is so bad, why don't you emigrate to one of those South American dictatorships where equality and differing opinions aren't valued?

At another point, Romney said, "Mr. President, you're entitled to your own house and your own airplane, but not your own facts."

A tightening of the national polls is meaningless if the tally in the electoral college does not move, and it isn't.

                Obama 269, Romney 181.

The supposed electoral college lead is theoretical.

                  JME,

Real Clear Politics; check the RCP Electoral Map in the upper right.

Real Clear Politics is consistently cited by both FOXNEWS and NBCNEWS as a current source for reliable
AVERAGED polling data at every level of American politics.

Real Clear last week increased the number of total 'toss-up states' still in play at the national level from
six to seven, adding Missouri which had previously been leaning Romney.

As a result, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Missouri, Colorado, Iowa, and Nevada are the seven states yet to be placed in either their Obama or Romney camps.

Beyond that, of the forty-three states no longer considered toss-up, Obama can lay claim with relative
certainty to receiving 269 electoral votes to Romney's 181, and everyone knows that 270 electoral votes wins the Presidency outright.

                  So there it is.

Assuming the present trajectory of the race continues, by winning any ONE of the seven remaining toss-up
states, when added to the total number of electoral votes from states no longer deemed toss-up by Real Clear Politics, the election could most certainly be declared essentially decided.

At present, with only 32 days left in the 2012 presidential campaign, Obama leads in five of the seven remaining toss-up states.

In FL, with 29 electoral votes, Obama's lead is 2.0%.

In NC, with 15 electoral votes, Romney's lead is 0.8%.

In VA, with 13 electoral votes, Obama's lead is 3.5%.

In MO, with 10 electoral votes, Romney's lead is 5.2%.

In CO, with 9 electoral votes, Obama's lead is 3.1%.

In NV, with 6 electoral votes, Obama's lead is 5.2%.

In IO, with 6 electoral votes, Obama's lead is 3.5%.

If the President takes ANY ONE TOSS-UP STATE from among Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Missouri, Colorado, Nevada, or Iowa the presidential race should be effectively over.

Conversely, for Romney to pull off an upset, he has NO CHOICE but to win ALL SEVEN of the remaining toss-up states, thereby matching the President's electoral total of 269, in order to have the election decided by the Republican-controlled House of Representatives.

A herculean task for Mr. Romney, to be sure. In Paul Ryan's world, however, and with all apologies to his oft-quoted mentor, Ayn Rand, the task might come down to the degree to which Atlas shrugs.

Sorry, but you're wrong about the polls moving in Romney's direction. Some are and some aren't.

The electoral college projection is empirical rather than theoretical, and it is inevitable that Obama will win.

You cite the skewed polls which base their polling demographics on 2008. Which is weird because 2010 actually captures the mood of the country more accurately.

But forget those, think 1980. Think Carter. Think failure on that level. That is the Obama presidency.

While I would be quite pleased to have such an educated and accomplished man like Mitt Romney win in November...I have my doubts that it will happen based on a word Mr. Obama likes to trot out when he's trying to make a point..."math".

It's fairly basic that Mr. Obama will once again get 96-97% of the black vote...about three-quarters of both the children's vote and the hispanic vote...and probably right around that same percentage among municipal, state, and federal government union workers.

That's a pretty healthy edge right off the bat. When you begin to add the numbers up, I don't know if there are sufficient votes out there to make up the difference.

Mitt Romney demonstrated far more than a command of facts, figures and debating skills last night. What he accomplished reveals the way he faces challenges, and that is far more important than simply winning this one debate.

Romney worked very hard in preparation. He applied his superior intelligence. He planned ahead accurately and effectively. He executed his plan flawlessly. And those are the characteristics of a true leader.

He demonstrated that he is willing to say anything that sounds good. Not only was he contradicting his whole campaign, he was contradicting himself in the same debate.

                      Fact Check:

OBAMA: It's important "that we take some of the money that we're saving as we wind down two wars to rebuild America."

THE FACTS: This oft-repeated claim is based on a fiscal fiction. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were paid for mostly with borrowed money, so stopping them doesn't create a new pool of available cash that can be used for something else, like rebuilding America. It just slows down the government's borrowing.

Despite the fact that Obama looked bumbling and uncertain in comparison with Romney, there were some subtle maneuverings going on that were not readily apparent. Obama did, in fact, rehearse for the debate (with John Kerry playing Romney). Obama planned and laid well-camouflaged verbal traps for Romney. He, no doubt, had rehearsed some indignant little speeches he could use in his rebuttals.

Romney spotted every one of Obama's little traps with ease, brushed past them, and continued to dominate the debate. On that level, Obama appeared like Austin Powers playing chess with Boris Spassky.

We desperately need a President who can match wits with other world leaders and bring the US out ahead. Rather than Obama who can be manipulated so easily by the flattery and bullying of ruthless people much smarter than himself.

6 BLATANT AND CONFIRMED LIES FROM ROMNEY DURING THE DEBATE

                      Romney Lie #1:

“Mr President, all of the increase in natural gas and oil has happened on private land. Not on government land. On government land, your Administration has cut the numbers of permit and licenses in half,” Romney said.

Data from the BLM shows that the number of drilling permits on federal lands approved during the fiscal years President Obama has been in office has decreased somewhere between 20 and 37 percent compared to the years before he became president - not the 50 percent Romney claimed.

Lie #2 Romney claimed President wrong about seniors paying $6000 for healthcare.

Looking at Ryan’s 2011 plan, the Congressional Budget Office estimated seniors would pay more for their health care under Ryan’s plan. The CBO projected that by 2022, seniors would pay 61 percent of their health care costs, versus 27 percent under current law.

The $6,000 figure comes from a Center for Budget and Policy Priorities study, based on the CBO’s analysis, which projected that seniors’ out-of-pocket costs would rise from $6,150 to $12,500 per year on average under Ryan’s plan.

                      Lie #3:
Governor Romney: Right now the CBO says up to 20 million people will lose their insurance as Obamacare goes into effect next year.

                      Politfact says it’s FALSE.

                      Lie #4:
Governor Romney: Number one, pre existing conditions are covered under my plan.

Mitt Romney does not think insurance companies should have to cover people with pre-existing conditions who have not had continuous health care coverage.

The Affordable Care Act, on the other hand, created special health care plans in 2010 for people who have pre-existing conditions, and by 2014 it will prohibit insurance companies from denying coverage to anyone because of a pre-existing condition.

                      Lie #5:

Governor Romney: What I support is no change for current retirees and near retirees to Medicare. And the President supports taking $716 billion out of that program.

Romney’s claim that Obama wants to cut Medicare by $716 billion dollars is a misconstrued statement. What Obama did was, through the Affordable Care Act, reduce growth of Medicare over 10 years. This reduction in growth would actually benefit Medicare beneficiaries by extending the life of Medicare. Obama’s reduction plan comes through at payments to hospitals as part of Medicare Part A.

Moreover, Medicare does not have nearly 716-billion available to take out of their fund (if that was Obama’s plan, which it is NOT). According to CMS, at the end of 2011 the current fund has around 244-billion

                      Lie #6

                      Lie: Romney

I will not cut taxes for the wealthy!

Romney, though, insisted the 20 percent across-the-board rate cut he’s pushing is not as sweeping as the president describes and wouldn’t hurt the middle class.

If it is "20% across the board" how does that NOT include the wealth

LIE #1: OBAMA SAYS HIS PLAN REDUCES THE DEFICIT BY $4 TRILLION

THE CLAIM: Obama: "I've Proposed A Specific $4 Trillion Deficit Reduction Plan." OBAMA: "I've proposed a specific $4 trillion deficit reduction plan. ... The way we do it is $2.50 for every cut, we ask for $1 in additional revenue." (President Barack Obama, Presidential Debate, Denver, CO, 10/3/12)

THE FACTS: "Virtually No Serious Budget Analyst Agreed With This Accounting." "But virtually no serious budget analyst agreed with this accounting. Obama's $4 trillion figure, for instance, includes counting some $1 trillion in cuts reached a year ago in budget negotiations with Congress. So no matter who is the president, the savings are already in the bank." (Glenn Kessler, "Factchecking The First Presidential Debate Of 2012," The Washington Post's The Fact Checker, 10/4/12)

LIE #2: OBAMA CLAIMED HE WOULD RETURN AMERICA TO TAX RATES UNDER CLINTON

THE CLAIM: Obama: "We Should Go Back To The Rates That We Had When Bill Clinton Was President." OBAMA: "But I have said that for incomes over $250,000 a year, that we should go back to the rates that we had when Bill Clinton was president, when we created 23 million new jobs, went from deficit to surplus, and created a whole lot of millionaires to boot." (President Barack Obama, Presidential Debate, Denver, CO, 10/3/12)

THE FACTS: "Obama Repeated A Favorite Talking Point" But Americans Will Pay More Under Obama Than Clinton Due To New Taxes In ObamaCare. "Obama repeated a favorite talking point, saying that his tax plan would return rates for the wealthy back to where they were during economically prosperous times under President Bill Clinton. But those making over $250,000 a year would actually pay more than they did under Clinton due to new taxes imposed on upper-income people to pay for the health care law." (Brooks Jackson, Eugene Kiely, Lori Robertson, Robert Farley, D'Angelo Gore and Ben Finley, "Dubios Denver Debate Declarations," Factcheck.org, 10/4/12)

LIE #3: OBAMA SAYS ROMNEY'S MEDICARE PLAN WOULD COST SENIORS $6,000 A YEAR

THE CLAIM: Obama: "The Problem Is That Because The Voucher Wouldn't Necessarily Keep Up With Health Care Inflation, It Was Estimated That This Would Cost The Average Senior About $6,000 A Year." OBAMA: "The problem is that because the voucher wouldn't necessarily keep up with health care inflation, it was estimated that this would cost the average senior about $6,000 a year. Now, in fairness, what Governor Romney has now said is he'll maintain traditional Medicare alongside it ." (President Barack Obama, Presidential Debate, Denver, CO, 10/3/12)

THE FACTS: The Washington Post 's The Fact Checker: "He Still Clung To An Outdated Estimate Of An Earlier Version Of The Plan, Claiming It Will Cost Seniors An Extra $6,000 A Year. (He Had Previously Earned Two Pinocchios For This Claim.)" " In the debate, Obama acknowledged that the GOP Medicare plan, authored by Romney running mate Paul Ryan, has been changed. But he still clung to an outdated estimate of an earlier version of the plan, claiming it will cost seniors an extra $6,000 a year. (He had previously earned Two Pinocchios for this claim.)" (Glenn Kessler, "Factchecking The First Presidential Debate Of 2012," The Washington Post's The Fact Checker, 10/4/12)

LIE #4: OBAMA SAYS ROMNEY'S PLAN WOULD RAISE TAXES ON MIDDLE CLASS FAMILIES

THE CLAIM: Obama: Under Romney, "The Average Middle-Class Family With Children Would Pay About $2,000 More." OBAMA: "And that's why independent studies looking at this said the only way to meet Governor Romney's pledge of not reducing the deficit -- or -- or -- or not adding to the deficit, is by burdening middle-class families. The average middle-class family with children would pay about $2,000 more." (President Barack Obama, Presidential Debate, Denver, CO, 10/3/12)

THE FACTS: "Romney Says His Plan Wouldn't Raise Taxes On Anyone, And His Campaign Points To Several Studies By Conservative Think Tanks That Dispute The Tax Policy Center's Findings." "Romney says his plan wouldn't raise taxes on anyone, and his campaign points to several studies by conservative think tanks that dispute the Tax Policy Center's findings. Most of the conservative studies argue that Romney's tax plan would stimulate economic growth, generating additional tax revenue without shifting any of the tax burden to the middle class." (Calvin Woodward, "FACT CHECK: Presidential Debate Missteps," The Associated Press, 10/4/12)

LIE #5: OBAMA SAYS HEALTH CARE PREMIUMS ARE BECOMING MORE AFFORDABLE

THE CLAIM: Obama Said "Health Care Premiums Have Gone Up -- It Is True -- But They Have Gone Up Slower Than Any Time In The Last 50 Years." OBAMA: "The fact of the matter is that when Obamacare is fully implemented, we are going to be in a position to show that costs are going down. Over the last two years, health care premiums have gone up -- it is true -- but they have gone up slower than any time in the last 50 years. We are already seeing progress." (President Barack Obama, Presidential Debate, Denver, CO, 10/3/12)

THE FACTS: Obama Was Wrong To Say That Care Premiums Have "Gone Up Slower Than Any Time In The Last 50 Years." "Obama wrongly said that over the last two years, health care premiums have 'gone up slower than any time in the last 50 years.'" (Brooks Jackson, Eugene Kiely, Lori Robertson, Robert Farley, D'Angelo Gore and Ben Finley, "Dubios Denver Debate Declarations," Factcheck.org, 10/4/12)

LIE #6: OBAMA SAYS GOV. ROMNEY'S PLAN IS A $5 TRILLION TAX CUT

THE CLAIM: Obama Said "Gov. Romney's Central Economic Plan Calls For A $5 Trillion Tax Cut." OBAMA: "Gov. Romney's central economic plan calls for a $5 trillion tax cut - on top of the extension of the Bush tax cuts, that's another trillion dollars - and $2 trillion in additional military spending that the military hasn't asked for. That's $8 trillion. How we pay for that, reduce the deficit, and make the investments that we need to make, without dumping those costs onto middle-class Americans, I think is one of the central questions of this campaign." (President Barack Obama, Presidential Debate, Denver, CO, 10/3/12)

THE FACTS: Obama "Is Off Base Here." "The president said Romney was proposing a $5 trillion tax cut and Romney said he wasn't. The president is off base here - Romney says his rate cuts and tax eliminations would be offset and the deficit wouldn't increase." (Brooks Jackson, Eugene Kiely, Lori Robertson, Robert Farley, D'Angelo Gore and Ben Finley, "Dubios Denver Debate Declarations," Factcheck.org, 10/4/12)

THE FACTS: "Romney Is Not Proposing A $5 Trillion Reduction In Taxes." (Brooks Jackson, Eugene Kiely, Lori Robertson, Robert Farley, D'Angelo Gore and Ben Finley, "Dubios Denver Debate Declarations," Factcheck.org, 10/4/12)

LIE #7: OBAMA SAYS HIS PLAN IS BALANCED IN THE MANNER OF SIMPSON-BOWLES

THE CLAIM: Obama Claimed His Deficit-Reduction Plan Was "Balanced." OBAMA: "Now, we all know that we've got to do more. And so I've put forward a specific $4 trillion deficit-reduction plan. It's on a website. You can look at all the numbers, what cuts we make and what revenue we raise. And the way we do it is $2.50 for every cut, we ask for a dollar of additional revenue, paid for, as I indicated earlier, by asking those of us who have done very well in this country to contribute a little bit more to reduce the deficit. And Governor Romney earlier mentioned the Bowles-Simpson commission. Well, that's how the commission -- bipartisan commission that talked about how we should move forward suggested we have to do it -- in a balanced way with some revenue and some spending cuts. And this is a major difference that Governor Romney and I have. (President Barack Obama, Presidential Debate, Denver, CO, 10/3/12)

THE FACTS: "Obama Made The Deficit-Cutting Plan He's Offered Sound Comparable To The Plan From The Chairman Of The Simpson-Bowles Debt Cutting Commission. But It's Not...." "Obama made the deficit-cutting plan he's offered sound comparable to the plan from the chairmen of the Simpson-Bowles debt cutting commission. But it's not: his proposal doesn't save as much money as Simpson-Bowles and doesn't offer the kinds of detailed entitlement cuts the panel's leaders did. The president's $4 trillion plan, including $3 trillion in spending cuts and $1 trillion in tax hikes from allowing the Bush-era tax cuts to expire, is spread over 10 years-a year longer than Simpson-Bowles. It sounds like a minor difference, but cuts and spending balloon in the so-called out years. Also, Obama doesn't touch Social Security in his plan. And the tax changes and war spending are accounted in ways that make Obama's plan substantially less aggressive." (Josh Gerstein and Darren Samuelsohn, "Fact-Checking The Denver Debate," Politico, 10/4/12)

LIE #8: OBAMA SAYS HE MADE ADJUSTMENTS TO SIMPSON-BOWLES FOR HIS OWN PLAN

THE CLAIM: Obama Said He Had Made Adjustments To The Simpson-Bowles Commission Recommendations. JIM LEHRER: "Governor Romney, do you support Simpson-Bowles?" MITT ROMNEY: "I have my own plan it is not as Simpson-Bowles. But in my view the President should have grabbed it. If you have some adjustments, make it, take it to Congress, fight for it." BARACK OBAMA: "That's what we've done. Made some adjustment to it. Putting it before Congress right now. $4 trillion plan." (President Barack Obama, Presidential Debate, Denver, CO, 10/3/12)

THE FACTS: MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell: "Just Ask Alan Simpson Or Erskine Bowles Whether President Obama Embraced Them In The Rose Garden." MSNBC'S ANDREA MITCHELL: "And then President Obama saying that he went with Simpson Bowles. Well we know that he didn't. You know I flew out on the same plan as Alan Simpson. Alan Simpson is on the debate commission. Just ask Alan Simpson or Erskine Bowles whether President Obama embraced them in the Rose Garden. Instead he walked away and sort of gave them a pat on the back." (MSNBC's "Morning Joe," 10/4/12)

LIE #9: OBAMA REPEATS THE WAR SAVINGS "FISCAL FICTION"

THE CLAIM: Obama: It's Important "That We Take Some Of The Money That We're Saving As We Wind Down Two Wars." OBAMA: "I think it's important for us to develop new sources of energy here in America, that we change our tax code to make sure that we're helping small businesses and companies that are investing here in the United States, that we take some of the money that we're saving as we wind down two wars to rebuild America and that we reduce our deficit in a balanced way that allows us to make these critical investments." (President Barack Obama, Presidential Debate, Denver, CO, 10/3/12)

THE FACTS: The Washington Post 's The Fact Checker: "This Is Fantasy Money." " This is fantasy money. The administration is counting $848 billion in phantom savings from winding down the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, even though the administration had long made clear those wars would end. In other words, by projecting war spending far in the future, the administration is able to claim credit for saving money it never intended to spend. And Obama would still be borrowing [sic] the money to 'rebuild America' (Imagine someone borrowing $50,000 a year for college-and then declaring that they have an extra $500,000 to spend over the next decade once they graduate.)" (Glenn Kessler, "Factchecking The First Presidential Debate Of 2012," The Washington Post's The Fact Checker, 10/4/12)

LIE #10: OBAMA SAYS HE HAS CREATED 5 MILLION PRIVATE SECTOR JOBS

THE CLAIM: Obama: "Over The Last 30 Months, We've Seen 5 Million Jobs In The Private Sector Created." (President Barack Obama, Presidential Debate, Denver, CO, 10/3/12)

THE FACTS: "That Statistic Tries To Obscure The Fact That The Overall Job Record So Far In This Presidential Term Has Been Negative." "He claimed 5 million jobs have been created in the private sector in the past 30 months; that statistic tries to obscure the fact that the overall job record so far in this presidential term has been negative." (Glenn Kessler, "Fact Check: Obama's Jobs Stat," The Washington Post's Fact Checker, 10/3/12)

LIE #11: OBAMA MAKES FALSE ACCUSATIONS ABOUT GOV. ROMNEY'S ECONOMIC PLAN

THE CLAIM: Obama Attributed The Financial Crisis To Policies That Governor Romney Supports. OBAMA:"The approach that Governor Romney's talking about is the same sales pitch that was made in 2001 and 2003, and we ended up with the slowest job growth in 50 years, we ended up moving from surplus to deficits, and it all culminated in the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression." (President Barack Obama, Presidential Debate, Denver, CO, 10/3/12)

THE FACTS: The Washington Post 's The Fact Checker: "Here, The President Comes Close To Repeating A Line That Just This Week Earned Him Three Pinocchios." "Here, the president comes close to repeating a line that just this week earned him Three Pinocchios. In a new television ad, Obama said that tax cuts and deregulation led to the crisis. But in the debate he broadened his language, bringing in the impact of the Bush tax cuts on the deficit and not directly linking the policies ('it all culminated' versus 'led to') to the financial crash." (Glenn Kessler, "Factchecking The First Presidential Debate Of 2012," The Washington Post's The Fact Checker, 10/4/12)

LIE #12: OBAMA SAYS SOCIAL SECURITY IS "STRUCTURALLY SOUND"

THE CLAIM: Obama Claimed That Social Security Is "Structurally Sound." OBAMA: "Social Security is structurally sound. It's going to have to be tweaked the way it was by Ronald Reagan and Speaker -- Democratic Speaker Tip O'Neill. But the basic structure is sound." (President Barack Obama, Presidential Debate, Denver, CO, 10/3/12)

THE FACTS: MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell Said That "But According To The Congressional Budget Office, Social Security Will Run Into Financial Trouble Too." MSNBC'S ANDREA MITCHELL: "President Obama said that unlike Medicare Social Security does not have to be fixed to remain solvent but according to the Congressional Budget Office, Social Security will run into financial trouble too. By 2030 the amount Social Security pays out will exceed the tax revenue coming in. So in about 20 years the program will not be able to pay for itself through the payroll tax that's we all pay in. So Brian, the debate will continue on twitter and everywhere else as these facts are checked and counterchecked." (NBC, 10/3/12)

If Mr. Romney told so many lies during the debate why didn't Mr. Obama correct him right there at the debate? Having watched the same debate I do not recall him putting up a rebuttal. Personally I would think since the statements made were about Obama's record then Obama would be the best one to defend that record and during that debate he did not. Just as an example:

“Mr President, all of the increase in natural gas and oil has happened on private land. Not on government land. On government land, your Administration has cut the numbers of permit and licenses in half,” Romney said.

Data from the BLM shows that the number of drilling permits on federal lands approved during the fiscal years President Obama has been in office has decreased somewhere between 20 and 37 percent compared to the years before he became president - not the 50percent Romney claimed.

Why not start out with - "Mr. Romney you are exaggerating the figures..." - instead he left it out there.

Thirty minutes into the debate, wow, I was so relieved that Romney was strong, assertive, in command of facts and called out the President on the mistruths he and his campaign had been telling. Phew!

Then I thought he should have backed off a bit. Pummeling the President began to feel ….I don’t know…sad and wrong somehow. I started to feel sorry for President Obama.

President Obama speaks to adoring crowds. The Senate majority leader throws out lies and distortion at his beck and call. His staff, I’m sure, never questions him. He’s completely detached from the actual job of the Presidency, yet is in control of the free world.

This has become frightening. Here is our President, seeming a little too bothered to prepare for a debate with an inadequate challenger, is stunned by being confronted with the ineffectiveness of his policies. He thought a charming smile, and the stump speech talking points that he feeds to his followers were going to be enough.

This, folks, is how he perceives himself in dealing with Congress (they should simply go along with his policies and if they offer an idea of their own – representing the views of their constituents --- he will just have to dismiss and say No as good parents sometimes have to do). This is how he perceives himself on dealing with our allies and partners (he need not get involved, offer support, work with them – he needs only to exist and the pure reality of his existence should be enough).

He fought back –not last night – but today – only in front of supportive crowds that he knew would cheer him on. He is not up to the challenge of this country’s diversity of thought and ideals. We need to let him loose so he can go on speaking tours to adoring audiences, where he can drive the orations without doubt and we can move on repairing this country under a moderate leadership.

Sorry to my liberal friends ---

                        Time for a change.

                        Candice,

I agree with the change but the change needs to happen in Congress. They are the obstructionists and they are the ones that are collecting big fat checks and benefits while the country struggles waiting for those that we have elected on a local level to do something. We do not live under a "kingdom." We are all Citizens of the great USA. We have a vote and our vote counts. The Congress has killed this country. Those are the ones that need to go ... time for a change of Congress.

No excuse is too far-fetched for them: It was the altitude. It was Romney's acting skill. Mitt was loud(?) Romney lied, and Obama was too much of a gentleman to call him on it. Obama was “off his game." I even heard one commenter suggest that Romney cheated by actually preparing for the debate. Horrors!

Once you are adopted, no prior names exist....read the adoption laws, then take your foot out of your mouth.

So then which name is it? Birth name? Adopted name? While I admit I am not taking the time to read the adoption laws it would seem to me that if, when adopted he took his step father's name he would then have to go to court to have it legally changed back to his birth name wouldn't he? So when asked (under oath) if he had ever used any other name, the answer would be yes. How does the adoption laws work when you change your name back?

                        Obama was 6 years old.

Romney put the dog "in an air-tight crate" so it would get fresh air.

                        1. "Obama stump speech lines don't pack same punch in debate"

                        2. "Biden defends Obama debate performance"

                        4. "Obama crushed Romney last night."

You Liberals were telling me #4 all night long last night, but it seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeems that there is a bit of discrepancy here. Why does Obama need to rebound, and why does Biden need to defend him, and why is NBC telling us that his lines didn't pack any punch if he WON?

In a debate, intelligence trumps aggressive, long winded talk, and the audience is quiet! In a stump speech the people can make noise.
