In a conference call with reporters, top Obama campaign officials downplayed last night's debate and also seized on what it said were misstatements made by Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.
But senior adviser David Axelrod also admitted that President Obama will make adjustments in his remaining debates against Romney.
“It’s like a playoff in sports. You evaluate after every contest and make adjustments, and I’m sure we will make adjustments,” Axelrod said, declining to get into details about just what changes would be made but noting that they would likely not be scheduling additional debate preparation sessions.
Axelrod added Romney “may win the Oscar for his performance last night, but he’s not going to win the presidency.”
Policy director James Kvaal listed a number of areas in which he said Romney distorted his own policies, including on entitlements and tax cuts for the wealthy.
With Obama returning to the presidential campaign trail today, Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt suggested the president would push back on Romney’s debate assertions during his two rallies in Colorado and Wisconsin, saying he will “make sure every voter out there understands exactly what the divisions are that Mitt Romney danced around last night.”

.
Yeah starting to schedule the movers to haul furniture back to Chicago. Romney was magnificent and truthful. He took it to Obama. Since Obama can't win on substance, then here comes the vile character assassination.
It was the altitude LMAO; it was drugs LMAO; it was his rustiness LMAO; The Land of 1,000 Excuses. Na NA na Na Na na NA Na Na Na.
Now it's in the hands of Gaffe Joe the man that gave Romney his "buried" zinger LMAO. Joe is a burnt out candle.
How low have we set the standards in this country when, lying through your teeth is considered winning?
Was I disappointed in the President's performance last night? YES!
Having said that, l'll still take FACTS over FICTION anyday...
Now it's more than clear why nothing gets done with talks with Congress regarding budgets, spending, and taxation. Now it's clear why nothing gets done with foreign leaders, why Obama won't talk to Netanyahu, why the Middle-East in is flames. Now we see why trade agreements are stalled and illegal immigration is overflowing our boarders. Obama can't even stand up for himself, his record, his results, his failures. How can he stand up to a few Congressman? How can he not even get a simple budget passed? How can he take a trillion dollars and not stimulate the economy? The man has no core beliefs. The man his no core values.
Obama described what he wants to do with 4 more years by saying he'll do the same things that he failed to do in the last four years. With that, Obama has no credibility. Obama is a classic passive-aggressive, talks a big game, but produces nothing and blames others for his problems. Clint Eastwood's got it exactly right with his empty chair.
Romney took charge of the debate, just like he'll take charge of negotiations with Congress, just like he'll take charge with foreign leaders, just like he'll take charge with the economy. It's that "leadership" thing Liberals, the thing Obama lacks.
@PDOL -- Quick let's get Clint and have him talk to an empty podium ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!
AARP is leaving because it knows this country's captain wants to back up the Titanic and hit the iceberg again!!!!!! BACKERS OVERBOARD AND WATCH THEM EAT THEIR LITTERS. OH THE JOY!!!!
Obama must be thinking today: "Wow, those questions were a whole lot harder than the ones I got on The View! And who was that other guy on the stage? What was he doing, disagreeing with me?!? I honestly cannot remember the last time someone disagreed with me to my face. That guy really threw me off."
Oh, so, now bullying is considered taking charge... lol
Interesting narrative even for you Snuffles!
Dominating people is not a sign of a good leader!
How about a few facts about the lying there Fisty. Can you come up with a few so that we may all see what you are talking about and perhaps rethink our glee?
And it is not called dominating, it is leading. Something Obama has never done in his tenure as POTUS.
Question to the RWNJ's
Was Willard lying when he swore he was an extreme conservative or is he lying now playing the MA moderate?
Maybe the next debate can be about fund raising. Obama should be good on that subject.
Hey Axlerod, dont sound too confident. 'Sure' I say you will have to. If not, last night will become the theme for Obama at the debates.
like you know what the difference is... Yeah Im on ignore thats right. Because Feisty, like Obama just can't debate. A lot lies, a lot of 'flare' a lot of finger pointing, blaming, shifting, averting. Nah I'm loving the new 'conspiracy' regarding CA . The new accusation of the proxy server. Hey Feisty good luck. You're gonna need it.
Now all I need is the 'Killa Debata' Mickey to come in with his nonsensical jibberish about how Romney sucks and Obama rules.
Feisty, if the best you have is the tired boresome rhetoric regarding 'RWNJs' and other gutter sniping, then you are truly doomed.
Why Feisty (Jen got to see you on TV today) lying is all you got????? Hmmm all you have is evolving!!!!!!!! Jerk water Dumbo ears has lied since 1998 to the American people. If that's all you got -- YOU GOT NOTHING.
JoAnna,
Great comment! I about laughed out of my chair! It's a shame that Michelle wasn't there to help her husband out...
Bullying?? Last I heard it was called a debate...if whimpy Obama can't come prepared to defend his record or to clearly state his position without the hundred "ughs..." then that's his problem...
This just in News Alert: Michelle Obama has just submitted her resume to be the next Obama Phone spokesperson OBAMA PHONE OBAMA PHONE.
"Bullying". The irony.
Clean the blood off your nose from the beating you took last night Barack. It doesn't look "Presidential".
Bullying? Wait didnt Obama have more speaking time? Bullying because he called Obama out for his exaggerations? Bullying because he wouldnt let Obama continue to call Romney a flip flopper? Bullying because he said hey Obama 4 years and we've seen what you can do. Bullying like Feisty does to other posters and gets suspend for? That kind of Bullying?
I think its a DDI meeting. Where are the usual lefty suspects. I do have to give Feisty credit for having the spine to be here unlike say Dennis or Backhouse or Ron or Jack in Portsmouth or Seeking.
JAS1 @ #1.4, I respectfully have to disagree with you when you say that Hussein has no core values. I truly believe that he has some very deep-seated core values rooted in the way he was raised and the praise he heaps upon his mentors. However, the perceived disconnect on your part is justified since Hussein has gone to great pains to camoflage his core beliefs until his (in his dreams) second term when he "has more flexibility." Then, and only then, will we REALLY see the true core beliefs of The Great Hussein.
Typical delusional Libtards. What a horrible, debilitating disease libtardism is.
I hear there might be a miracle cure. Finding a job and paying some taxes. The trials start in November.
WahWahWahWahWahWah..............
Would you libtards like some cheese with those whines.
President Romney crucified your POS messiah.
Obama looked like a tourist reading a map.
Buh Bye Odumbo and Mooch - elle.
You're absolutely correct about Willard!
Of course they downplayed it. They had no other recourse. Obama got stomped on. I'll bet he took 40 lashes from his handlers this morning after his anniversary night with moose. Notice the slanted opinion of the Obama team didn't even mention the misstatements from Obama... only of Romney. If that's all they have, it's over.
Liberals all over the land are reeling from this Obama failure... Liberals on First Read are tucking their tails between their legs because of all the bravado they exhibited over the last week or so saying that Romney was going to get killed in the first debate. What happened liberals? Where is your bravado today? I know... lies, lies, lies. That's all you have, but FactCheck.org doesn't support you in any of that.
JoAnnaSmith1
Now it's clear why nothing gets done with foreign leaders, why Obama won't talk to Netanyahu, why the Middle-East in is flames.
The reason why he will not be Netanyahu bitch as both bushs were is because the man wants the president to strike Iran and maybe cause WWIII, and the president will not do that, also the reason why the middle east is having problems is because of some stupid A$S HAT FROM THE UNITED STATES, put out a video mocking their religon, you act as if the president can control everything. As he said at the united nations last week, there must be tolorance, in other words, don't get pissed because some one put out something your don't like.
too bad for you Joanna, things have cooled off in the middle east except Syria, or do you agree with Romneys that we should send ground troops in to stop the up rising against a tyrant?
after what your said last week about the death of the stevens you should be ashamed to even come on this site any more.
Someone said: "Oh, so, now bullying is considered taking charge... lol
Interesting narrative even for you Snuffles!
Dominating people is not a sign of a good leader!"
This, from someone who considers Bullying a "sport" and takes it to a whole new level!!! LMAO!!!!!
Maybe the next debate can be about fund raising. Obama should be good on that subject.

JAS1: Or giving wonderful speeches that accomplish exactly nothing beside making lefty liberal's get tingles all over their bodies.
WOW, Jeff @ #1.23.........there's a reason you're not Hussein's foreign policy advisor....or......even.......a REALITY ADVISOR!! LOL!!!!
Ben,
Truthful? $716 billion in Medicare savings according to CBO. Romney told this whopper 3 times. LIE, LIE, LIE
Now, his 20% reduction in tax rates is totally paid for in closing loopholes. Mathematically impossible according to nonpartisan experts. Just fuzzy math, I guess. LIE or is Romney just abandoning any stimulus effect from tax cuts?
Where are Romney's cuts in spending coming from? He agreed with Obama that no cuts should be made to education, Social Security, Medicare, but he wants $2 trillion more in defense spending.
Romney won the debate, but....
He jettisoned his tax cuts to stimulate the economy.
He eliminated the cost savings in Medicare just promising to give insurance companies a $716 billion bonus check.
He undermined his own plan to reduce the budget deficit.
All to win the debate. Policy doesn't matter to Romney. It is just rhetoric to him. He is a chameleon who changes his color whenever it is to his advantage. He is not someone I could trust to be President.
Joe -- I can see an RNC ad now. It will be Obama saying he'll work hard if the voters just give him another chance (several times over) then go to him saying FORE on a golf course; then on vacation; then puffing on a doobie. LOL.
Shaak -- Terrible being you huh. $716 billion is an absolute fact. True job creation will increase revenues. Obama has lied since 1998 and has changed his spots more than any other. Yawn. You got nothing.
Thank God that Willard spoke up and said he would get touch on Big Bird. We all know that PBS is the root of the Nations problems.
Hey Ben... maybe you got something there... Obama did look a little strange last night... could be he puffed on a doobie before he got on stage... Studies have it where doobies have a strange effect on a person's memory and demeanor. Must be he needed a pick-me-up... but in effect it placed a put-me-down on him. ROFL!!!
shaak,
Last I knew a debate was about stating your position and the other guy refuting it. I didn't see Obama refuting anything...I saw him taking notes, saying "ugh" alot and sweating, but I didn't see him refuting Romney. And Obama LIED as well...just check any fact website... So to claim that only Romney lied shows your bias towards a candidate that came to the debate unprepared and unconvincing...
I just heard on the news where Obama is running around today expressing his anger over the debate last night... blaming Romney and others for his poor performance. Why isn't this surprising? Obama is expressing real anger too, in front of his crowds of supporters... and they are buying it. Don't know how many people he's reaching, but the one point Obama isn't making is that it was his fault for his poor debating performance... How typical... Obama simply can't accept it when he's wrong. Obama gets stomped and his answer is to blame everyone else!
Job1 -- You are wrong. Big Bird is not the root of this nation's problems -- Obama is. :-). There is another level playing field atmosphere the prz is not used to -- a silent audience. Dead silence when prez mentioned that Trump didn't like to consider himself small anything, but Romney got a crowd laugh over Big Bird. Ohhhhh Ouch LOL.
@Brian -- Did you catch the zinger when Romney inferred that Obama was like a lying child????? That was great!!!!!
Job1
except Romney didnt say that Job but if you feel lying will help your mind grasp reality, then by all means, dont let me stop you.
Nah Job, he cited the harsh realities that things are going to have to CHANGE. you know not just empty words, actions to follow the words. There is no "TOO BIG TO FAIL"
on the positive note, Romney gave out all his "secrets." Romney has to do better during the next one which will be harder for him. Obama's got all the Romney lies listed for ammunition like:
MY FAVORITE: "You never balance the budget by raising taxes." -Apparently, Romney slept through Clinton presidency.
"And these businesses -- many of them have gone out of business. I think about half of them, of the ones have been invested in, they’ve gone out of business."- why? did Bain manage them?
"The idea of cutting $716 billion from Medicare to be able to balance the additional cost of Obamacare is, in my opinion, a mistake." -- LIE
Obamacare "puts in place an unelected board that’s going to tell people, ultimately, what kind of treatments they can have." --LIE
"Up to 20 million people will lose their insurance as Obamacare goes into effect next year." ---another LIE
Of course there is Romney's $5 trillion lie.
There are more Romney lies - this is just a sample.
Warren Buffett can write a check and save Big Bird. Isn't that what the rich are supposed to do, pay their 'fair share'?
That would necessitate Harry to get a budget to the president to sign.
Bayllie,
Like these lies Obama blurted out last night?
LIE-Obama accused Romney of proposing a $5 trillion tax cut. Not true. Romney proposes to offset his rate cuts and promises he won’t add to the deficit.
LIE-Obama oversold his health care law, claiming that health care premiums have “gone up slower than any time in the last 50 years.” That’s true of health care spending, but not premiums. And the health care law had little to do with the slowdown in overall spending.
LIE-Obama again said he’d raise taxes on upper-income persons only to the “rates that we had when Bill Clinton was president.” Actually, many high-income persons would pay more than they did then, because of new taxes in Obama’s health care law.
LIE-Obama again touted his “$4 trillion” deficit reduction plan, which includes $1 trillion from winding down wars that are coming to an end in any event.
All from factcheck.org...
You mean like those kind of lies??
JK1963
I'll make it easy for you, and I will start with the 1st one. Prove to me by showing me how Romney is paying for his cuts. Since Romney cannot, and Paul Ryan doesn't have time, maybe you can do it for them.
Prove to you squat! Explain to me how Obama was going to save us SPECIFICALLY (beyond all that hope and change rhertoric) back in 2008 after the first debate and I'll buy your argument... Would you care to defend the other items I posted?
"I'm sure he'll make some adjustments", according to David Axelrod.
What exactly can he adjust?
Can he adjust the $6 trillion in additional debt he created? Can he adjust the 23 million out of work?
Can he adjust the the fact our Libyan embassy/consulate was sacked and our ambassador and security detail were assassinated two weeks ago?
Can he adjust downward the $3.89 per gallon gasoline, double the price when he took office?
Can he adjust the the fact he deleted $716 billion from Medicare?
Can he adjust the fact our sovereign debt was downgraded for the first time in history during his administration?
We need to adjust Obama into retirement!!!
JK1963
that's what I thought. You got nothing to prove that Romney cannot pay the $5 trillion tax cuts without taking deduction from the Middle Class. Thanks for playing.
as a Democrat and supporter for Obama... I think Axelrod is the problem! This man is so dull and passionless that it is literally painful to listen to him.
And Bixelrod's FIRST ADJUSTMENT was to get the Department of Labor to falsely report a reduction in unemployment rate to 7.8%. Of course, the "skirts" in the Obama Administration made it happen.
And the Progressives are LOVING IT.
Joanna: " Obama described what he wants to do with 4 more years by saying he'll do the same things that he failed to do in the last four years." Isn't that the definition of 'insanity' by thinking he'll get different results this time? Insanity; narcissism; arrogance; stupidity; incompetence; lies ........
TO: Ben-636050 who wrote:
You probably still say George "Curveball" Bush was truthful too, even though you know for a fact that he lied.
Romney changes his mind from hour to hour, and he goes back and forth on every issue - first he's for it, then he's against it, depending on who's listening. I wouldn't call that "being truthful".
Obama/Biden 2012
Sounds like something the KKK might have had something to do with.
Obama/Biden 2012
TO: ldo who wrote:
Oh, so now everybody's lying EXCEPT Mitt Robme?
I don't think so.
Obama/Biden 2012
It was the winning, actually. Poll numbers haven't moved. Beyond that, Obama pretty much won the news cycle for the week. People are far more interested in whether unemployment is going down than which one of Obama or Romney is nastier.
Obama gets it both ways. He gets to keep his good guy hat with the country. Read the following. It was said by a man who understands that the Presidency is not about pride, arrogance, or who the Big Guy is. It is about the American people.
The guy who said this is the guy who won the debate. That's why the news cycle now favors Obama. It's easy to be aggressive. For all those who say that Obama should have been more aggressive, would you have preferred that he walk over and punched Governor Romney in the face? Because for sure, that's aggression.
The Presidency isn't about aggression. It's about understanding that it's not about you. Count the number of times Mr Romney said "I will..." and you will see who really gets it. The President of the US is not the country's CEO. He's a public servant.
Yeah starting to schedule the movers to haul furniture back to Chicago. That's their big adjustment LOL.
One adjustment might be to have Bill Clinton be the Obama stand-in for the next debate. He's really popular.
I seem to remember hearing they are moving to Hawaii. If that's true, they'd better start moving now. Fresh off the hassle of getting from the Vineyard to the mainland with tons of stuff-can't imagine getting to Hawaii is all that easy.
By the way- if Obama continues to insist that the last four years don't count, and continues to want to change the subject from jobs to something- anything- else. He's going to look even worse in the next debate.
Aloha, Obama. It's been real.
Poor no jo and JS1: they want so badly to hate this President (why is that girls, simply because he beat your crush Hillary, or because he is black?) that they want to believe that the President has lost the election.
You don't win by lying to the American people, and Romney lied. Of course the two of you aren't particularly squeamish about that character flaw, so I can see where you are THRILLED with Romney's performance.
Heeeey, NDD...R. Dearest, please, do tell. Can you tell us the exact moment of the debate when you choked on your popcorn?
Or did it happen more than once?
you lose. You think Obama should adopt a similar approach NDD? do you think he should just say Romney is a racist? I dont think so either so why would you with such baseless claims? Ignorance is no excuse. grow up
You don't win by lying to the American people???? (I just spewed soda all over the key board). Holy Mackerel Obama has lied since 1998 and really big time in 2007 and 2008 and you can stand there and say that. You have no morals.
Poor, POOR JoAnna: Really, that is best you can do? I'm ashamed for you dear, you really are not up to snuff this morning.
So which is it, poor JoAnna, do you hate this President because he beat Hillary, or because he is black?
Fact checkers are having a field day with Romney. His position is as steady as a weathervane. He is a moving target.
As someone else said "hitting Romney on his positions is like trying to nail jello to the wall".
Looks like someone finally got into Obama's face. And he did not like it. Not one bit.
Poor, POOR, nD...R, can't think of anything positive to say about The Great Hussein.....has to pull THE RACE CARD.....and go in to ATTACK MODE. LOL!!!
Win by lying?? That's how Obama got elected in 2008!!
sounds like Feisty, NDD, Seeking, Mickey, et al. A lot of in the face arguing. Dont forget Xaber/Ruken/nameTBD
Hussein, Oscar really?
And you wonder why the race card gets pulled?
Thanks for making the point more real!
and what would be racist? Hussein is his middle name. and Mitt goes by Mitt and you insist on Willard?
there isnt one thing, fact or fiction, that could make your point 'more' real.
nD...R.....calling Barack Hussein Obama, "Hussein," is NO DIFFERENT than calling Willard Mitt Romney, "Willard." Until I see you berating the people who call Mitt, "Willard," I just can't take you seriously.....or should I call it "poutrage???"
Someone said: "Hussein, Oscar really?
And you wonder why the race card gets pulled?"
THIS, from someone who pulled the race card BEFORE I said "Hussein."
TOO freakin' funny!!! LOL!!!
nDR-
As with all of your other friends, could you cite where in the debate Romney lied? I and others have been asking all you libs all freaking day to give an example and no one responds. C'mon. Give us one. Oh, and before you try, you may want to check the fact checkers so you don't look like a talking point poster. We all know you are but don't confirm it any farther and leave a little reasonable doubt in our minds. Ooops. That won't work either.
Talk to the hand...did YOU fact check at all? I'm not saying Obama was 100% accurate, but at least he was able to ouline plans, while Romney just said he had a plan, but wouldn't share anything more. My favorite quote of the night was from Obama "Is the reason that Governor Romney is keeping all these plans to replace secret because they're too good? Is it because middle class families are going to benefit too much from them?"
...
Romney claimed a new board established by the Affordable Care Act is “going to tell people ultimately what kind of treatments they can have.” Not true. The board only recommends cost-saving measures for Medicare, and is legally forbidden to ration care or reduce benefits
Romney accused Obama of doubling the federal deficit. Not true. The annual deficit was already running at $1.2 trillion when Obama took office.
Romney claimed that middle-income Americans have “seen their income come down by $4,300.” That’s too high. Census figures show the decline in median household income during Obama’s first three years was $2,492, even after adjusting for inflation.
And let's not even get into the fact that he HAS NO PLANS!! He wants everyone to think he has them but then says that he will decide once he reviews and talks to congress...blah blah blah. Please, maybe you can explain how he can cut tax rates by 20% (across the board) AND add 2 million to the military budget and STILL get rid of the deficit, because he sure as heck can't. And maybe you can also explain the link between getting rid of obamacare and giving the money back to the insurance companies by way of "vouchers" (oh wait he didn't call them that - at the debate anyway) and how that is going to help in anyway the current healthcare situation. Oh, his reasoning...let the states work on that themselves. We'd have more than half the country fall into complete chaos if we let the states just do whatever they wanted all the time.
That is idiocy, pure and simple. Romney is a CANDIDATE for the office of the President, and the almighty bho is already president, and a very inept on at that. Being a candidate doesn't entitle you to a staff the size of a small town, and therefore, you simply cannot have each and every fact of your plan at your disposal. Like Mr. Romney said during the debate, "I'm looking at reaching across the aisle, like I did in Massachussets, and come to a consenses concerning healthcare issues.", while the almighty bho has already told every Republican in Washington that they can "sit in the back of the bus." He is the most divisive president we have ever had as a nation, and Mr. Romney had him looking like the fool he is during the first 15 minutes of the debate. Or were you watching? Heck, his v.p., Joe "Bite Me" Biden even said that the middle class has been buried for the past four years. Ya think (drunk) Uncle Joe? It is going to be hilarious to see 'ole "Bite Me" get his handed to him by Mr. Ryan in a few days, as that I'm sure Mr. Ryan won't be pulling any punches like Mr. Romney did during the debate. What you saw was Mr. Obama for what he is, a rank amateur who is woefully in way over his head, and in a few short weeks, will be headed for the great state of Hawaii. Aloha Barack!
I am sure Joe is fired up at this point and he will show the way in dealing with mendacity.
Winter storm here, uncertain internet because of it. Here is what is true about the debate.
People are seeing exactly what they wanted to see in it. For those of you who hate the President, you have seized on this as another opportunity to hate. Those of us who hate the Romneys, see the lies that he told as evidence that he is not suitable for high office.
Those debates were never going to change our minds, left or right. Did it move the needle much with independents? I doubt it.
Who won? The media! They get to gin up interest.
For the rest of us. It was a ho hummer!
The media? We will see. Romney borrowed from Gingrich last night and attacked it. One would hope that the media and moderators have taken note.
keep getting dizzy but even MSNBC was still saying Obama lost. I think refusing to see and perpetual blaming of everything but his (Obama's) poor performance won't change anything.
im sure you do. but you dont give any evidence or opinion to why you think that other than wishful. I agree it remains to be seen but I wont doubt it.
Well put and as an undecided voter I agree with your thoughts! People see and hear what they want to based on who they support and the debates are not going to change a left or right's mind. As an undecided voter I am amongst the few that can clearly evaluate what I saw last night with no party allegiance... I promise all of you that debate did NOTHING to make up my mind. Yes, Romney was much more impressive than I thought he would have been...but as suspected after a little am research, half of what he said was incorrect. Obama had a disappointing "performance" in comparison but did have a good deal more truth..although he had his incorrect info as well. The debate for me did not move the needle one bit!
This liberal would agree that Romney won last night's debate, such as it was. He seemed confident and energetic and well-prepared. Congratulations, Governor.
That being said, as someone who's watched presidential debates for over 40 years, this was one of the least memorable ever on either side. Lots of buzz words, dueling numbers that were supposed to dazzle but instead were confusing (or maybe they were supposed to confuse us?), over-rehearsed excerpts from standard stump speeches, and a moderator who let both candidates talk too long with too few specifics. His main question all night seemed to be "Do you think there's a difference between the two of you on this?" Well, duuuuuhhhhhh......ya think so, Jim?
So THAT being said, I find it somewhat ludicrous that so many people - pundits and posters here alike - seem to be suddenly firmly convinced that one good 90-minute performance by Romney somehow erases the months and months worth of totally inept performances and out of touch remarks and policy reversals and vague word salad speeches, lack of specifics and repeated lies by Romney that preceded it.
Debate spinning is pretty much the national past-time today, so I encourage everyone to have at it. It doesn't change anything, but it's always fun.
But to paraphrase Abraham Lincoln, I suspect the world will little note nor long remember what was said last night, and by the time the next catchy sound bite is uttered, the next supposed gaffe made, or the next shiny object unearthed, the campaign will pick up right where it left off.
For all the sound and fury on First Thoughts this morning, I doubt that last night actually changed very many votes. I know it didn't change mine. This campaign is about a LOT more than last night's 90 minutes, and anyone who believes otherwise is just fooling themselves.
Romney dodged a bullet last night, and good for him. That doesn't mean he won't go right back to shooting himself in the foot and shooting his mouth off about things he knows nothing about tomorrow.
Thanks for posting Undecided. Glad to know that what I said was accurate, at least for your own experience.
Nate said that the polls show Romney did very well last night.
10-04-12
According to Nate, “Polls Show a Strong Debate for Romney”
The newest research from Nate has it as the NOV 6 factors:
“Obama chance of winning 86.1% Romney 13.9%”
“Projected Winner Obama 319.3”
“Projected Loser Romney 218.7”
Popular Vote:
Obama 51.5% Romney 47.4%
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
However, if the election was being voted in “Now Cast” Today:
Totals
“Obama chance of winning 96.9% Romney 3.1%”
“Projected Winner Obama 330.9”
“Projected Loser Romney 207.1”
Popular Vote:
"seem to be suddenly firmly convinced that one good 90-minute performance by Romney somehow erases the months and months worth of totally inept performances and out of touch remarks and policy reversals and vague word salad speeches, lack of specifics and repeated lies by Romney that preceded it."
Now that's has to be one of the more ironic statements I've seen in a while, considering that the almighty bho was counting on the debate to erase nearly four years worth of inept performances, out of touch remarks, and policy reversals, except for when he has an adoring crowd, the increasingly liberal media in his pocket, and his trusty teleprompter. I called this one weeks ago, without someone there to hold his hand, and tell him the EXACT words to say, he is indeed what Clint Eastwood deemed him to be, an empty chair. I bet money that haxlerod will hook him up with an earpiece to spoon feed him during the next debate... LMAO!
I would expect david Axlerod to say that. But what I really want to hear is why the president thinks he deserves a second term. Simply not being Mitt Romney is a poor answer.
Coincidentally, I want to hear why Mitt Romney thinks he deserves a first term. Simply not being President Obama is a poor answer.
WTF DaNoid -- you Pee Wee Herman???? jerk off jerk off!!!!!
Ben,
In spite of your "mature" response, I will explain myself.
In 2004, "The 43rd President of the United States" ran for re-election against a candidate who ran an entire campaign seemingly on the sole premise that he was not the sitting President.
In 2012, Mr. Romney is doing the same.
At some point, ask yourself..."What is Mr. Romney running FOR...or is he simply running AGAINST something?"
difference is that GDUB had the Iraq/Al Qaida boogeyman in his favor
Obama has the economy boogeyman, not in his favor.
Its funny im hearing the Bush/Kerry debates but those were key issues then (wars). those favored Bush (wicked Bin laden destroying America).
DaNoid -- The PeeWee Herman reference was for parroting the other poster from the scene in the movie. Romney showed unequivocally last night that he cares about America, his fellow citizens, the middle class, the poor, the elderly. Romney is a man of character. The reason Obama didn't use the trash published on here and MSNBC is that it is all false narratives and won't stick. It's the economy not gay marriage, not vaginas, not abortion, not dogs, not horses.
Obama's Love Potion No. 9 has worn off and the American voters will break his bottle.
...or did he just say what he thought people wanted to hear?
@DaNoid -- What scares you and the other liberals the most is that you all know the answer to your question:
NO!!!!!!
Da Noid,
You never answered the question.
Who do you think Romney is? Obama? LMFAO
Or maybe how you can sneak an earpiece in without anyone knowing... B.O was lost in the sauce last night! But that's ok... spin it b*tches spin it... of course it's all lies... you have no proof of that, but what's proof to the left hand circle dance spinners that we are seeing dizzy and falling on their collective A$$'s this morning? They wouldn't know the truth if it bit them in the A$$!
Gov. Romney was well prepared and looked good last night. However the positions he expressed during the debate did not contain the specific elements that he implied they did. Frankly, a little fact checking will show that he made some significant misstatements. Gov. Romney got in a few verbal punches that the President did not respond to.
President Obama took a while to get into the game and still never really looked comfortable. He appeared angry and looked like he wanted to cal out a few times, but he restrained himself. Frankly, he looked less well prepared to debate even if his statements were more truthful.
For the next debate, Gov. Romney shouldn't prevaricate as much and President Obama should be more relaxed and be willing to fight back.
Go look at the fact checking. Minor "infractions" is all they could find.
The nonpartisan Tax Policy Center, a joint project of the Urban Institute and Brookings Institution, has said the Romney proposal would cost $360 billion in the first year before it is offset by closing loopholes, which others have extrapolated to estimate that it would amount to $5 trillion over the decade.
(source: http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-pn-fact-check-debate-romney-tax-20121003,0,3813713.story )
Five trillion is not minor.
Also, another link discussing both candidates: http://www.wric.com/story/19731285/fact-check-presidential-debate-missteps
No it's an estimate. And your link as well as others posted comparing the two showed they both stretched a bit. Not 4 Pinocchio's but stretched.
The estimate is to approximate the number, not that the premise behind it is wrong. If you have another non-partisan source that says otherwise, please link it. I'd like to see it.
And I agree that the other link shows both candidates stretched statements. That's exactly why I posted it.
Sooo, the 6 trillion debt that obama has accumulated is LESS than 5 trillion? I almost spewed when obama said, "It's simple arithmatic!". Apparently it's not all that simple Mr. Obama, when you promised to cut the deficit in half, and instead doubled it. Oh wait, he's using the magic "liberal math"! I get it now! I'm glad he didn't promise to cut in into quarters! God knows what kind of mess we'd be in if he did! Have a great day, and weekend you silly, delusional liberals!
Winner? <---- Anyone who claims there was a "winner" are just plain delusional. The debate was a joke on everyone. Neither candidates were specific on anything. <---FACT. I feel so sad for all Americans.
Please don't let me stop you from berating each other endlessly. I know you are all experts about everything. It is too bad your ingenuity and skills didn't offer you more relevance in shaping our country's future, then maybe you all would spend less time thinking of ways to cut each other down from your computers.
That's funny. Try not to hurt yourself when dismounting from your high horse...
The pressure is on the challenger now. The President will be declared the winner of the 2nd debate, unless he falls off the stage. This is how it goes. Whomever wins the 1st debate then has the bar raised for them and lowered for the loser. The MSM is mostly interested in the "horse race" and "gotcha"'s.
A close race is in the interest of the media. The only way to gin up the audience for the 3rd debate is for the President to either win, or demonstrably lose badly enough that it sets up either a "rubber match", or desperation scenario.
President wins...Rubber match
Romney wins...desperation, all in.
Romney gets clubbed, or "gotcha'ed" and we have the desperation scenario for the challenger.
The debates will not decide the election, but they do get folks more engaged and provide a little bit of drama, pathos, and lots of argument...
I don't need no drama like this in my life. The President had every opportunity to at least make this thing a draw with an inspired performance. However, due to his weak, underperformance and selected memory of his strong attacks, Obama is providing Romney an opening.
No debates may not decide elections, but you are taking a big chance if you as the incumbent don't take them seriously.
Also there is no way the media is spinning this. Romney with his frenetic energy, false sympathy and distorted rhetoric won this debate. Remember we are talking about a debate, not the truth.
Sort of like the 2010 off year elections huh? Liberals never learn.
Word Ben! They truly don't learn. But if you ask them, they know what's in your best interests, and how you need to vote, where you should "occupy", and how to set up a cathouse (acorn)! I'm actually finding all of these silly liberals to be funnier by the day! Or would that be more desperate by the day?
That was not the real Mitt Romney it was the fake Mitt Romney. That was an etch a sketch that walked back his own policies he had been running on throughout the primary season. Real Mitt Romney - 47% of Americans won't take responsibility, I don't care for them my tax cuts will go to the upper class job creators. Fake Mitt Romney I love the middle class I won't tax them a dime. Real Mitt Romney I will repeal Frank Dodd, Obamacare etc. Fake Romney I like some portions of Frank Dodd some things I will put back into my health care. Real Mitt Romney, the government shouldn't be involved in education, all kids need is one voucher for every thousand kids and we need to break the school union and the teacher thugs. Fake Mitt Romney I like Arne Duncan and the Race to the Top for public schools, I want them and teachers to thrive.
Romney still has no specifics. Although, I agree that Obama didn't seize enough opportunities he did mention that the math in Romney's plans does not add up. Obama mentioned that all Mitt's plans Wall Street reform, Health care reform, tax reform were just words with out feasable strategies to pay for them. Mitt also didn't say how they would be better than what we currently have.
I will give the President this mulligan but he NEEDS to bring his A-game from this time forth.
The math didn't add up because Obama has a puny mind and was using an abacus. You heard specifics from both just not minute details. You can't go in depth in 5 15-minute segments. Lehrer was great and did what he should have. He placed the ball and like a good referee got out of the way. Real leaders like Romney mold consensus. Bad leaders like Obama think they can command consensus. "Jimmy please help me, please. Big Bad Mitt is kicking my ass. Go to another topic." WHAT A CRY BABY!!!!!!!!!!
The deficit and taxes...
How does Romney pay for his $5 trillion in tax cuts without a balanced approach of both spending cuts and increased taxes/revenues? We are talking about over a decade so you are telling me that there are $500 billion dollars of annual deductions he can close, only on the top earners, that will enable us to balance the deficit. Not even that, are you telling me that his unspecified "deduction trimming" will even be enough to be deficit nuetral?
The answer is a balanced approach.
As far as deleting PBS something worth what 1/2 of 1% of all discretionary spending you thinking cutting Seasme Street is going to balance the budget? You think that taking your ball and going home with cuts to foreign aid is going to balance the budget? You think that sabre rattling and unnecessary military buildup on 20th century aircraft and weaponry is going to bring peace to the middle east.
Good leaders, tell the truth. Romney is not a leader, not a uniter. He can't even agree with himself half of the time.
You want to debate me?
The math adds up just fine... that big ol' $4.8Trillion dollars cut that the left is screaming about.... it is in fact a $4.8Trillion dollar cut, however it is not a $4.8Trillion dollar cut up front day one! That's the point they don't wanna talk about. The TRUTH of the matter is that $4.8Trillion dollar cut is spanning a 10 YEAR period of time, which equates to $480 billion per year.... and well obtainable and easily paid for cut using the plan of closing loopholes and cutting deductions just as Mr. Romney stated very clear. The specifics on this plan will be worked out through proper channels and from both sides of the political fence just as his plans as Gov. were worked out with a predominately Democratic government in his state!
Just another vetran - As my post said yes the amount in question is over ten years. However, my point is there are not enough deductions and loopholes coming from the upper incomes to address the +/-$5 trillion number.
Even if they were, are there enough deductions affecting the upper class to address the additional $2 trillion over ten years he is asking for the military? By the way, why is he going against deleting the sequestred funds for the military that were agreed to?
Why is he in favor of keeping the Bush Tax cuts and make them permanent? If he takes away deductions and loopholes in the attempt to cut the deficit or even be deficit neutral why is he adamant about getting rid of the estate tax, reducing the corporate tax rate and make sure that the rich pay a low capital gains rate.
So you see he isn't talking about only $5 trillion it is greater than $7 trillion plus. It doesn't add up.
Regarding Romney working with a democratic legislature, you see it time and time again, democrats will compromise. The republican party has merged into an obstructionist roadblock everytime Obama tried to work with them. Ha, they even rejected and filibustered their own bills and ideas once Obama took a liking to them.
I've waited long enough for that debate Ben. Knew you wouldn't want to debate. Maybe some other time, if you are up to a discussion without making your childish remarks.
Obama is not a good salesman. He's too honest and he proved it last night. He was caught off guard by another of Willard's flips. He should have expected that and responded with the old Reagan line, "there you go again" and point out the flip flop. Obama looked more like John Kerry and that isn't good. Next time he needs to come out swinging and take no prisoners. As baseball manager Leo Durocher said.."Nice guys finish last". Clearly the nice guy finished last in this debate and will need to improve for the next one.
Funny how the Hearst controlled Houston Chronicle rated Obama as the biggest liar last night ... the Chronicle is a liberal newspaper.
vega check out "at-last-nights-debate-romney-told-27-myths-in-38-minutes"
Talk about who's lying.......
Were they myths or lies? Which is it?
Yea David, here's an idea. Why don't you and the rest of your so-called surrogates quit? If this is what we Democrats can expect for the remaining two Presidential debates, count me absent. What a pathetic display of preparation. Try less scheduling of tv appearances and photo ops. All of us know what the President looks like. Why didn't one of you genuises remind the President of the importance of holding his head erect throughout the debate regardless of the nature of questioning or responses. Last night was advertised as a debate not first day in kindergarten where you are made to stand in the corner for a demeanor. In all honesty, last nights non-performance by the President was sufficient to cause one to sit out election day. One attempts to be as supportive of the campaign as humanly possible only to be rewarded with ineptness. After last night's dismal performance, the so-called Democratic party can keep their junk mail they litter my mailbox with. Chris Matthews was altogether correct when he said during the Democratic convention, the President needs other and better surrogates other than you and the rest of your cronies.
Obama needs a teleprompter just as a baby needs a pacifier or a teenager needs a smart phone. If Axlerod could he would demand a change in format to allow teleprompter use ... then Obama could pause while his handlers tell him how to answer the question.
I’m sure we will make adjustments,” Axelrod said, declining to get into details about just what changes would be made..."
1) NBC polls will now oversample Dems by 20%
2) First Read must have 5 positive Obama headline stories per day, dammit!
3) Chuck Todd must say "Romney is way behind in Ohio" ten times on air per day!
Romney put on a strong performance last night and definitely won the debate. But now that he has raised expectations, he's got to go himself one better in each of the next two debates. Maybe he can do that--if we see same listless and unprepared Obama. I don't think we will.
If you agree with this, paste and play around America.

SJM, that URL is not working ... You Tube says it can't find it.
Romney call talk a good game when it comes to lying his butt off, but it won't get him into the oval office. The American people see right through his lies! 4 MORE YEARS...MR. PRESIDENT.
My late uncle demonstrates the "adjustment" Axlerod will be making:
My Uncle Charles was a staunch conservative, and voted straight Republican until the day he died in Chicago.
Since then seems he has voted straight Democrat.
LMAO!!! Now that's funny "vega"! And sadly, probably true!
Where was the substance I am still waiting to hear his plan not zinger or sound bites for the next day. I still didn't learn anything. I rather have substance than manic energy any day. I would vote for him but he never seems to say anything. and I am one of those 47 percent that he says doesn't take responsibility for their lives. So let me tell you, I have a job . I also have a master degree. I pay my bill every month have two sons in college and two in school. Are you taking responsibility for your life or are you one of those fortune few 53 that are better than some us undignified folks that work hard for a living.
So, after last night Obama starts with his BS rhetoric "we didn't see or hear the real Mitt Romney last night". I can tell you Barack, we definitely saw and heard the real Barack Obama last night. Do the American people a favor and just resign.
An empty chair would have done a better job than Barack.
and said more than Mitt..
It's amazing how sharp BO's rhetoric can be after he's had a night to sleep on it and have his speech-writers explain how he really feels about things.
In the real debate, however, the FAKE/OTHER ROMNEY kicked the real Obama's behind all over the stage.
Do not under estimate our President. He had to let Mr. Roms play a little so he could feel good about himself. He is just a showman with many faces, does not care about the people, only the rich ones. Our Pres knows just what he is doing. He is a very smart man and he acts like a President, not like a little boy wanting some new candy. Next debate will be all his and Roms will just not know what hit him. We also must remember, our President has many things on his mind and he does not have the time like Mr. Roms to sit around, look in the mirror and debate his own face. I will support him all the way, he cares about the people and carries himself like a President. You go Obama.
ha ha ha - libs don't handle defeat very well, do they? Unfortunately poor Obama did act like a little boy - a little boy who stared at the podium and the floor and had difficulty making eye contact - while he was getting a major dressing down by Romney.
But I do agree on one of your points - the president has many things on his mind - Parties with Beyonce, radio interviews with Pimp with a Limp, appearing on "The View" - really important stuff! Glad he's not filling his brain with useless, unimportant stuff like fixing the economy, protecting our embassies abroad from terrorist attacks, the millions of unemployed, Iran's nuclear buildup, and balancing the budget.
You go Obama - out of the White House and back to Chicago. But watch all those flying bullets once you get there!
How do you starve a Democrat?
Hide their food stamps under a pair of work boots!!!
David Axelrod is brilliant...I have never seen a more brilliant campaign in all my life.
Just when I think "Oh no people are going to believe Romney because he lies so well"
David comes up with some brilliant idea...I can't wait to see what he does next...so far the comments about "The real Mitt Romney" are spot on. I am so impressed with Obama's campaign and how well Obama is handling having to deal with a wanna be conservative with a robotic twist. Romney doesn't know who is or what he stands for....I wish people would pay attention..Not just on DEBATE NIGHT.
you are out of your mind.
You can't possibly be serious. haxlerod...brilliant??? And Mr. Magoo was an outstanding driver to! I'm quite sure the haxlerod will have an earpiece built just for the almighty bho, so he will be able to spoon feed him the "facts" for the next debate. Shouldn't you be "occupying" something???
there doesn't seem to be any hardcore Romney supporters only Obama haters. Conservatives are hateful...never seen or heard such out right bigotry and ignorance in all my life....it's enough to make a republican throw up listening to Rush or o'Reilly there is only so much one can take before they become nauseated.
Actually, up until last night I must admit I just saw Romney as the only option we have to get our inept president out of the White House but wasn't a big fan of Romney. But after last night, I'm a Romney fan and a supporter.
Bigotry? I guess if recognizing that Obama is a failure as a president and as a leader makes me a bigot, I'll accept that label.
But don't you think it's a little sad that the only thing you can come up with is to call non-Obama supporters bigots? Doesn't that make you a bigot? I look at Obama as a man. You look at Obama as a black man.
Very well put "Independent". I don't listen to Rush, and have thought of him as an idiot since the early 90's. Conversely, I don't watch nbc news either, as that Mr. Obama has many adoring fans in their ranks. I only watch the local Fox News, never the syndicated version. I'm not "spoon fed" talking points like many of you liberals are. I am what God made me, an Independent with a fairly decent brain that is capable of making it's own (and by proxy my) decisions. And I have to agree with "Independent", that by recognizing Mr. Obama as the abject failure that he is makes me a bigot, then so be it. And don't forget to throw in the race card the very first chance you get! Everyone knows that the Cherokee Indians are the most racist bunch on earth...
