In surprise stop, Romney tries to build momentum after debate

DENVER -- Mitt Romney looked to build on last night's aggressive debate performance this morning, as he made a surprise visit to a gathering of conservative activists to advance his argument that President Obama is building a "trickle-down government."

"Last night, I thought, was a great opportunity for the American people to see two very different visions for the country," Romney told several hundred conservative activists gathered for the Colorado CPAC conference.

"I think it was helpful to be able to describe those visions.  I saw the president's vision as trickle-down government ,and I don't think that's what America believes in. I see instead a prosperity that comes through freedom," Romney said. "We have two very different courses for America -- trickle-down government or prosperity through freedom."

If there was any doubt that the GOP challenger had found a new attack line against the president, it was quickly dispelled as Romney hammered the "trickle-down" point again and again.

"Trickle-down government will not create the jobs Americans need. Trickle-down government will not bring down the cost of energy," Romney said. "Freedom is what drives America's economy."

The brief remarks here marked Romney's first effort at building momentum off of last night's debate, which Republicans hope can become a turning point in an election that has remained stubbornly locked in place for weeks.

Following last night's debate, Romney advisers telegraphed a more aggressive campaign going forward, including increased TV ad spending in states like Ohio, where Romney continues to trail the president by a significant margin, and more details -- including a speech on foreign policy next Monday at the Virginia Military Institute.

Referring to Obama as the "President" just seems odd after last night.

Please for the love of God - will someone explain "Trickle-down-government"??? would this be the same "Trickle-down-government" that helped Romney's father get on his feet when they came back from Mexico??? Would this be the same "Trickle-down-government" that helped build this great nation??? Since when did our form of Government be come the "Vilian". If Gov. Romeny hates the Federal Government so much then why does he want so badly to be a part of it?????? Amazing if he thinks he is actually going to be able to fix it when he can't even do a simple math problem????

trickle down government: <phrase>

meaning a gradual, increase of government into every corner of society. Also meaning a simultaneous never ending of government department increasing using base line budgeting (where a 5% increase in budget is considered a 10% cut if 15% increase was originally requested.

New government departments every month + perpetual increasing government budgets = trickle down government

“I’m sorry, Jim, I’m going to stop the subsidy to PBS. I’m going to stop other things. I like PBS. I love Big Bird. Actually, I like you too. But I’m not going to keep on spending money on things to borrow money from China to pay for us.”

President Romney never said he was going to fire anyone.

PBS has stated in the past that they would do just fine without tax payer's money.

Romney switching position is like watching tennis. The back and forth is amazing. What ever crowd he is in front of at the time is what he becomes. If he is in front a conservative crowd he becomes conservative and changes his beliefs. If he is front of a moderate crowd he becomes moderate and changes his beliefs. WILL THE REAL ROMNEY PLEASE STAND UP, its becoming exhausting keeping up with all the different faces of Romney. Romney position are like a chocolate egg looks good on the outside but when you break it open it is empty.

I am amazed on how Myth can suddenly etch a sketch on all he said during the primary and our pundits feign ignorance. This guy is lying through his teeth and is not believable. Anyone, any middle class that buys this deceit has himself to blame. The good thing is Americans are not buying this Mitt. cameleon color change. He just morphed into an Obama. He now agrees on so many of Obama programs including wall street checkmating and Obama care

Isn't it amazing how ungracious liberals can be..Their canidate has a bad night and suddenly it is Romney's fault? That dawg don't hunt no more .Blaming others for your ineptness grows old and each must at some time or other accept their own responsibility and share the blame for their own inactions. Spin the truth for a change ..that is my hope.

Wow, you conservatives/Republicans are a mean, angry bunch.

You have proven that you are only about winning, that you are not concerned with facts or feasability, that you have no compassion. Your candidate proved that himself last night.

Whoa, whoa, back that truck up! Romney spin the truth? Have you been listening to this guy for the past 6 months?

His problem is that he has so many versions of the truth on any given day.

Mitty played loose with the facts. What is good about todays voter is the ability to fact check what a candidate says. Voters will not buy in to those who are proven liars. Don't expect Mitty to get any major bump. He has already in this 24 news cycle been proven to have lied with the numbers.

THE QUESTION should NOT BE how many felt that he won the debate (poor Jim Lehrer) but the Question should be how many will vote for Mitty after last night's debate. Notice Rethugs are not asking this important fact because they are fully aware that there is a lot more catching up to do. How many women has he won over? How many Hispanics? How many African Americans. The undecided are still undecided and are fact checking Mitty........

President Obama was working a full-time job while pretty boy Romney had all the time and money in the world to prepare for his debate "performance." I doubt that today he remembers a word he said last night.

Rommey is right . There is a lot of ways to do the math on taxes. If more people are working there is more taxes being paid add a few loop holes makes even more taxes . Cut taxes even more people get a good job because companies will hire more. Reform Obamacare and companies will hire and more small companies will do better. If we have good teachers that can actually teach our schools will improve. Throwing more money at the schools and all this testing has been very bad for our schools. We need good teachers that can teach our kids not more programs. Medicare does't cover everything so you still have to buy a another policy to cover what it doesn't anyway , So what is wrong with a choice or the voucher. And nobody watches big bird anyway not even kids.

The President of the United States posts all kinds of information on the White House website. All you need to do is learn how to use a computer and how to read. Did you expect him to sit at the foot of your bed and explain everything before saying a prayer and tucking you in?

Are Americans shortsighted? Romney is tricky, his character may get something done, but his character is not good as leader for the world, his leadership style will create a moral decline for America and the world in the long term. He is worse than Bush!!!!

So what is wrong with trickle down government. It sure has to be better than "compassionate conservatism"... or whatever bull the GOP is going to throw out next. Ever since "god" Ronnie the middle class has gone downhill and the wealthy have gotten more and more.....
