NBC/WSJ poll: Obama holds lead in Ohio; statistical tie in Va., Fla.

Updated at 9:01 a.m. ET: As President Barack Obama and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney prepare to square off for their first debate Wednesday night, the Democratic incumbent maintains a significant lead in one key battleground state while the contests in two others have tightened, according to a new round of NBC News/Marist/Wall Street Journal polls.

In Ohio, Obama holds a 51 percent to 43 percent lead among likely voters, which is relatively unchanged from his 50 percent to 43 percent lead three weeks ago.

NBC News/WSJ/Marist Ohio Poll

NBC News/WSJ/Marist Fl. Poll

In Florida and Virginia, Obama and Romney are statistically tied, with the Democrat clinging to a slight edge. In Florida, Obama leads 47 percent to 46 percent, down from 49 percent to 45 percent in mid-September. And in Virginia, Obama is up 48 percent to 46 percent. Last month, Obama led 49 percent to 45 percent in the Old Dominion state.

"The polling in September was right after the conventions," said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, which conducted the poll. He added, "We may be seeing a dissipation in some of that post-convention bounce that [Obama] enjoyed."

NBC/WSJ poll: Obama maintains lead, but Romney within striking distance

Miringoff also noted, "Things have returned in Florida and Virginia to the kind of closeness we've been seeing earlier in the campaign. Not so in Ohio."

In the final push in the 2012 presidential election, candidates Mitt Romney and Barack Obama make their last appeals to voters.

As the presidential candidates' running mates duke it out over Vice President Joe Biden's use of the word "buried" to describe the fate of the middle class over the past four years, conservatives circulate a video of a 2007 speech by President Obama, a move described as "desperate" by his campaign. NBC's Chuck Todd reports.

These three states are where the campaigns have focused the lion's share of their resources. Of the $687 million in total advertising spending between the campaigns and outside groups, more than half -- $384 million -- has been spent trying to tip the 60 electoral votes in this trio of battlegrounds.

Women's support for the president and a continued negative perception of Romney are fueling Obama's lead in Ohio. There is a wide gender gap in the Buckeye State, with women saying they prefer Obama over Romney by a 56 percent to 39 percent margin.

A majority of all Ohio voters (51 percent) view Romney negatively; just 42 percent view him positively. It was the reverse for Obama, who enjoys a 52 percent/favorable, 44 percent/unfavorable score.

Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum gives his perspective on what Mitt Romney's game plan should be going into the first debate and also discusses the controversial "47 percent" comment

"Ohio needs to change if Romney's going to make that state more competitive," Miringoff said.

More politics coverage from NBC News

In Florida, though, it's a different picture. There, Romney's image is in better shape -- 46 percent view him positively, while 43 percent view him unfavorably. That may not seem like much, but that three-point, net-positive score is Romney's best in any of the nine battleground states tested in the NBC/Marist/WSJ polls following the political conventions.

President Obama's deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter talks to TODAY's Savannah Guthrie about the candidate's skills as a debater as well as his biggest vulnerability heading into the first debate.

In the last Florida poll, Romney was plus-two in positive feelings; in Virginia last month, he was plus-one, just as he was in North Carolina last week. All of the other states have shown Romney with an upside-down score.

Michelle Obama to Ohio supporters: Vote; a second term isn't certain

Though Obama is a slightly higher net-positive (50 percent to 45 percent) in favorability in Florida, his negative score is actually higher than Romney's.

From tramping through cornfields to munching ice cream cones to holding babies – the time-honored traditions of the campaign trail leave President Barack Obama and GOP challenger Mitt Romney looking surprisingly alike.

The movement in Florida came from independents. Both parties are locked in, but in this survey, independents broke for Romney 47 percent to 41 percent. Three weeks ago, Obama led with them 48 percent to 41 percent.

Virginia saw minor shifts across several groups accounting for Romney's two-point gain.

Ann Romney: Debate will highlight contrast between candidates

The president has a 48 percent job approval rating across all three states, a number Miringoff calls a "good number for an incumbent." But "it's not a great number."

"It's right on the edge of where someone seeking re-election needs to be," Miringoff said.

Although the race is tight, Mitt Romney is inching forward, making the upcoming debates between the presidential candidates even more crucial. In the latest NBC/WSJ poll, nearly 40 percent said the debates will be either 'extremely' or 'quite' important. NBC's Chuck Todd reports.

As the candidates and the country look to first of three presidential debates Wednesday night, it's worth noting that within these three polls, there was a very low number of undecided or persuadable voters – something reflected nationally and in other swing-state surveys as well.

"Typically debates are aimed at winning undecided voters," Miringoff said.

But there may not be many voters left to sway.

Still, for Obama, solid debate performances could "cement" his lead in these states, Miringoff said.

"For the challenger," he added, "it's always the second chance to make a first impression."

In the hotly contested Virginia Senate race, Democrat Tim Kaine leads Republican George Allen, 49 percent to 44 percent among likely voters. Last month, Kaine and Allen were tied, 46 percent to 46 percent.

From governor's son to presidential contender, a look at the life of Republican Mitt Romney.

In Ohio, Democratic incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown continues to lead Republican challenger Josh Mandel. Brown holds a 50 percent to 41 percent lead, which is slightly expanded from where the race was last month. Brown then led 49 percent to 42 percent.

In Florida, Democratic incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson holds a 52 percent to 41 percent lead over Republican challenger Connie Mack. Last month, Nelson's lead was a slightly wider 14 points.

The polls were conducted from Sept. 30 to Oct. 1. The Ohio poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percent. The Virginia poll is plus-or-minus 3.1 percent. The Florida poll is plus or minus 3.3 percent.

If 95% of white voters vote for Romney like 95% of Afro-Americans will vote for Obama (according to the latest polls), Romney would be ahead by a landslide. I just wish people would vote based on the issues instead of along racial lines. That way the best person for the job would win.

Obama - Through the Affordable Care Act, Obama gave our citizens access to health care.

Romney - States that uninsured citizens should use local hospital emergency rooms to treat their chronic illnesses.

Obama - Supports keeping jobs in America, and bringing jobs back to America.

Romney - Chief outsourcer of U.S. jobs.

Obama - Supports tax cuts for the middle class.

Romney - States he must raise taxes on the middle class

Obama - Supports closing tax loopholes for the wealthy

Romney - Supports less taxes for the elites ("the job creators")

Obama - Appointed Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the first Latino, to the Supreme Court.

Romney - Has appointed Robert Bork (who is right of the hard right) as one of his chief judicial advisors.

Obama - Supports government assistance for small business startups.

Romney - States that young people should borrow money from their dad and mom to start a business. (suppose mom and dad are not rich?)

Obama - Supports government assistance for education.

Romney - Wants to eliminate Pell Grant funding for more than 1 million students

Obama - Supports diplomacy instead of war.

Romney - Wants to start more wars.

Obama - As stated at the DNC Convention: "I'll never turn Medicare into a voucher program."

Romney - The GOP will turn Medicare into a voucher program.

Obama - Supports voter participation.

Romney - Supports voter Suppression.

Obama - "I am the president of all Americans."

Romney - "I do not intend to worry about the 47%."

President Obama, please no soft gloves for Romney and Ryan!

According to new Quinnipiac/CBS News/New York Times poll, men voters in Ohio prefer Romney by 8 points, but Obama is winning by 10. Why ? Because voting women in Ohio prefer Obama by 25 points. In Pennsylvania, women prefer Obama by 21 points and in Florida by 19 points.

The Republican Party, hijacked by extreme social conservatives and fundamentalist religious nuts (some of whom are no better than Pakistani or Afghani Taliban), have been waging the war on women. And hopefully the women will defeat the Republicans this coming November.

F6Z....this country is not Nazi Germany, regardless of how some of you radicals view it. We would not sit idly by and let the U.S. become a dictatorship. Bill Clinton was only 12 years ago...the only thing that has changed dramatically since then is the division between the republican and democratic parties. The election in 2016 is going to make it incredibly easy for a really solid independent candidate to win. And...the GOP better get the hint after this one....they need to change their stance quite a bit if they want to stay in existence. To not be able to beat a sitting President that is so hated by so many says a lot.

I tend to ignore those people, mostly because their hatred is being fueled by the propaganda spread by that fat a$$hole Limbaugh and the even more ignorant Hannity. These people believe whatever they read and then try to associate to the highest degree to put even more fear into the mindless. Obama may not be the best president ever, but he succeeded the worst president ever and has done a decent job. And, by far, he is better than Romney. He is by no means, Hitleresque.

It looks like the polls are beginning to trend towards Romney. What is astounding about this is that all of these polls are still flawed in that they use models based on either total registered voters or turnout for the 2008 election which in both cases favor Democrats. Take for example the NBC/WSJ poll cited above; it favors Democrats by 7 points which mirrors the turnout in 2008. Given that voter enthusiasm is down markedly among several of Obama's key demographics, does anybody really believe that Democrats can equal (or better according to some polls) the 2008 turnout?

Even with the media and it's liberal pollsters carrying Obama's water, the electorate appears to be ready to make a change. Because the media has perpetuated the narrative that Romney is nothing more than a bumbling buffoon, the bar for him in tonight's debate is very low. If he even turns in an average debate performance, I think that team Obama is in trouble.

FALSE
Despite claims that Pere Vallés "donated heavily to the 2008 Obama campaign," a search of all donors to the 2008 presidential campaign of Barack Obama does not turn up a contribution (of any size) from anyone with that name. (Likewise, we found no evidence supporting the common rumor that financier George Soros holds an ownership stake in Scytl.)

Guess who is apart of this cabal? It the WorldNetDaily (better know as World Nut Daily). Yup, these are the people who swear our President was born in Kenya and is a Muslim.

In 1997, Farah created the news website WorldNetDaily as a division of the Western Journalism Center. In 1999, WorldNetDaily was spun off[5] as a for-profit division of the Center. The Center and Farah own a majority of WorldNetDaily's stock.[6]

The Center doesn't include either an address or telephone number on its letterhead, but is believed to be headed by conservative author, speaker, and political consultant Floyd Brown.[7]

Obama - Through the Affordable Care Act, Obama gave our citizens access to health care.

This act is already proven to increase medical bills. To help pay for this he put a tax on medical device manufacturers. Thus impacting their bottom line by as much as 15%. Who do you think is going to pay for that?

Obama - Supports keeping jobs in America, and bringing jobs back to America.

Ow is raising taxes on corporations that are already moving jobs out of the country to reduce their tax burden supporting American Jobs. It is pushing more jobs out of the country.

Romney - Chief outsourcer of U.S. jobs.

You bet he is. He is smart enough to know if he want's to compete in the Global Market he has to get out from under the high corporate taxes in the USA.

Obama - Supports tax cuts for the middle class.

Under Obama there won't be a middle class because he will chase the rest of our jobs overseas.

Romney - States he must raise taxes on the middle class

You mean he was honest and said we are in a mess and it is going to cost us all to get out of it. Thanks for being honest Romney.

Obama - Supports closing tax loopholes for the wealthy

Let's be honest here. There are too many loop holes but there are also things that are not fair. For example if you own stock in a company you are part owner. That company and you as part owner are paying taxes at corporate rates on your profits. Then you distribute part of those profits as dividends. Then you get taxed again for the dividend.

Romney - Supports less taxes for the elites ("the job creators")

If by less taxes you mean lowering the tax rate for corporations so they will create more jobs then I have to agree with him. Raise their taxes and they will move to a more competitive country. Then there won't be any jobs.

Obama - Appointed Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the first Latino, to the Supreme Court.

Obama also let's many illegal immigrants stay here illegally, or by changing the rules to make them legal. Talk about manufacturing votes. These illegals are taking jobs from US citizens. I know some of you will say who wants those jobs? So you are saying you are better than they are. They can do those jobs for those wages just so long as you don't have to. But you think slavery is wrong?

Romney - Has appointed Robert Bork (who is right of the hard right) as one of his chief judicial advisors.

Obama - Supports government assistance for small business startups.

Romney - States that young people should borrow money from their dad and mom to start a business. (suppose mom and dad are not rich?)

Obama - Supports government assistance for education.

How do you pay for this when you are giving all our money away in entitlements?

Romney - Wants to eliminate Pell Grant funding for more than 1 million students

There is a difference between wanting to do away with something and realizing you cant afford something.

Obama - Supports diplomacy instead of war.

You mean Obama supports Islam and Muslims, while he forbids the burning of their book but orders the burning of thousands of Bibles.

Romney - Wants to start more wars.

If by understanding that we can't afford to let Iran have nuclear weapons Obama has stated that himself earlier this week.

Obama - As stated at the DNC Convention: "I'll never turn Medicare into a voucher program."

He won't have too because Obama Care will eventually do away with medicare. And no one will be able to afford the insurance because the premiums are going thru the roof. Already as a result of Obama Care it is almost impossible for a parent to buy insurance for their child. Most companies have quit offering these policies as a result of Obama Care. Very soon the premiums for single and family plans will be so high no one will be able to afford them. Then we will all be paying the annual tax (fine) for not having insurance.

Romney - The GOP will turn Medicare into a voucher program.

Still better than Obama Care.

Obama - Supports voter participation.

You mean by allowing people to vote with out an ID. Sure then the illegals can vote for him. Why wouldn't he support it? How about we go back to making sure only US Citizens vote?

Romney - Supports voter Suppression.

Because he believes as the US constitution states that you should have to be a legal citizen to vote? Same as it has been thru out most of our history.

Obama - "I am the president of all Americans."

True no matter how much the idea detests me.

Romney - "I do not intend to worry about the 47%."

Taken out of context. He is talking about their vote. He could no more expect to win their vote than Obama could expect to win mine.

Timberbear

If 95% of white voters vote for Romney like 95% of Afro-Americans will vote for Obama (according to the latest polls), Romney would be ahead by a landslide. I just wish people would vote based on the issues instead of along racial lines. That way the best person for the job would win.

President Obama won election in 2008 because a lot of white folks voted for him. His opponent John McCain was white, so obviously many people did not vote along racial lines. That election was a huge victory for this country for people of every race. The best person for the job won, and I don't think you will find many Americans wishing McCain/Palin had won instead.

We need to keep President Obama in office. We know we can trust him to keep us safe and bring this country out of the hole the GOP dug (the hole they want to go back to).

How is it that after one gaffe after another, even when Romney insults half of the country, he could even be in this race at all? It isn't like he has suddenly become less crappy of a candidate.

Still no plan, no disclosure, no transparency, nothing but vague generalities about how he will 'create jobs' and 'fix the economy'.

If it is that easy, I promise to 'create even more jobs' and 'fix the economy forever'.

Top that, Wrongme.

I have been meeting more and more so called conservative Christians who say they are not even going to vote on November 6th because they do not particularly like Obama and they are very afraid of Romney because he is a mormon and they all think that mormonism is some strange secret evil cult.

As a Christian who attends church every week and talks to other Christians daily I can honestly say I have never heard anyone mention anything even close to what you have said. Although we may disagree, I like other Christians have a great deal of respect for Mormons and the way they live their life and the way they treat others. The only people I have heard call Mormonism a cult have been on the left, like a suspect you are. Many on the left have bad opinions of religions in general but have really attacked the Mormon faith during this election because they disagree with Romney. You spread these lies but actually the Catholic church and other Christian churches are actively asking their members to vote for Romney because they disagree with the Obama mandate that requires faith based hospitals to cover things like the morning after pill which goes against their beliefs.

Catholic bishops have vowed to continue the fight against what they say is one of the most objectionable outcomes of the health care law that the Supreme Court largely upheld on Thursday: the requirement that religious institutions that aren't strictly for worship, including hospitals and schools, provide birth control with no co-pay as part of insurance plans.- Huffington Post

Media bias is working hard to save Obama from defeat. The failure in his Foreign policy and National defense show that the killing of Osama was not enough to get his credentials. The killing of another border patrol , after in an obscure investigation the Obama Administration got clean from fast and furious and the latest, closing GITMO and send the terrorist to the Thompson Penitentiary. Obama did not respondthe 3 AM call, he fail , Ambassador Stevens is dead.

Our economy is not doing better for Obama , actually nothing that Obama has done , not even the porkimulus help. The economy is getting better because we all Americans do not want our economy go to the cliff. Obama never show leadership , always act in partisan manners and never got bipartisan support in important legislation. Obama is not a leader.

We need a leader that works with both sides of the political spectrum and Romney has experience doing that, he work with Republicans and Democrats in a Liberal State , Romney is a leader.

Romney 2012 for a real leadership.

I came to this vine with a rather generic message about GOTV in mind. Once I read this thread I realized that didn't even begin to express my thoughts.

Read the comment from the Right that were posted above...really read them and think about them. It's obvious that Conservatives have become radically unhinged. The conspiracy theories, paralyzing fear, hatred, and general closed-minded attitudes just scream when you look at them in total.

When these kinds of paranoid visions and desperately irrational thoughts lead a major political party only bad things happen. At this point the Republican Party is totally encased in irrationality, is totally immune to facts and sensible thought. I don't know what the solution is, but treating the GOP as a reasonable player in our political discourse isn't it...and won't be until the Tea-poison is totally purged through rejection at the ballot box.

Folks, GOTV isn't an important thing, it's the only thing.

Ow is raising taxes on corporations that are already moving jobs out of the country to reduce their tax burden supporting American Jobs. It is pushing more jobs out of the country.

That's an illogical comment. Corporations function to make money and to increase short-term value for their shareholders. Corporate leaders who are civic-minded and who care about this country over their million dollar salaries and perks are few and far between. Unfortunately, some of them need an incentive to hire American workers and keep jobs in the U.S. or a disincentive to move jobs overseas.

Romney - Chief outsourcer of U.S. jobs.

You bet he is. He is smart enough to know if he want's to compete in the Global Market he has to get out from under the high corporate taxes in the USA.

Someone has you brainwashed but good. Are you aware that U.S. corporations are sitting on mounds of cash? Where are the jobs? Tax breaks did not create jobs for Americans, yet you support your own oppression. You are owned, tether, owned by multi-national corporate interests. We all are!

Hence the 'tether'.

This is not about winning or losing.

This debate is about more airtime to send your message.

It has to be about specifics about policies on the economy, jobs, the debt and the 47%.

It's questions about both the past and the future...

What have you and your team done for me in the past and why should we trust you going forward?

How did you and your team contribute to our growth and how did you interfere?

I cannot wait for Romney to answer...

how he plans to pay for the $5 TRILLION tax break for the rich?

Why are you NOT releasing your 2009 tax returns?

What are you going to replace National Health Care with?

Where is your math on reducing the debt without revenues.

I want him on record accusing entitlements as the cause of the national debt.

You are just endangering your lives with your high blood pressure and hairy eyeballs.

Calm down.

Tomorrow you'll have something worth talking about. Then we'll have a clear indication of how close the race is. By Friday the post debate poll numbers will tell the tale and set the schedule for the next 30 days. So take a pill, relax, chill, have a drink and wait for it before you all blow a gasket.

Here you see the true nature of liberalism. It is not enough to just disagree and let people decide, no if you don't tow the liberal line they want to shut you down, have you arrested, deported, punished. The liberals have CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC, ect... but it that doesn't matter because they don't want even one dissenting voice allowed to speak.

Obama was elected because the head of the Democrat party kick Hillary out of the race because they had more chances to win with a black candidate, the media never reveal the real Obama , and most white folks had the opportunity to show that we are not racist country. Now the story is different , we learn that Obama is a socialist , partisan and driven by his ideology , white voters are not voting base on race this time, obama fail everywhere but divide the country and maintain his racial lead 97 % among African Americans because the white folks of the Republican party don't care about blacks.

I have nothing against Mormons as people. They seem to have many fine traits: they work hard, educate themselves, focus on their families, etc.

But as a religion? Mormonism is a cult if ever there was one!

Read up on the subject, Logic. It was founded by a so-called 'prophet' who used his charisma to convince others to practice polygamy (for his own purposes). They were reviled everywhere they went, until finally they settled in the deserts of Utah. Mormons continued to practice polygamy until they were forced to abandon it by law. As recently as 1978, black men were not allowed as lay priests in the church (their sins had stained their skin dark, or so they believed.)

Mormons baptize the dead, even those of other religions, as a way to reach a higher level in heaven. They have tried to baptize Anne Frank several times.

Mormons believe Jesus will return to... Missouri...???

I'd almost rather vote for a Scientologist. :)

The Votes are being counted by a company in Spain Owned by George Soros!

F6Zman - I examined the link you provided. No hard information. No mention of Soros. Just a lot of excited statements and allegations without support. At the top of the article, in small print, it actually says that this story was "NOT VETTED BY CNN".

Your statement (see above) strikes me as a paranoid rant.

@Ricardo-2751697 Please explain how I am paranoid, for stating facts, I am always called things that I am not by Liberals, just proves how stupid they are.

Sufferers of delusional paranoia do not see things which are not there. They do not cite facts which are not true. What they do that is crazy is misinterpret the facts around them, constructing them into a strange web of delusional fantasies.

For instance, your statements regarding executive orders:

Obama and Bush have abused their powers, now with Executive orders, these people can not be impeached for Abusing their powers.

Presidential executive orders have been used since the earliest days of the Presidency. The courts, most recently, in Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. v. Sawyer, 343 US 579 (1952), have set limits to the extent of such orders, stating that they can only be used to clarify and existing law, not to make new laws.

There is nothing which prevents Congress from impeaching, trying and removing from office any chief executive who abuses his powers. Your statement has no basis in fact.

This is the core of a paranoid delusion, poor reality testing, which allows the sufferer to assume some fantastic truth, based upon vague, half stated evidence.

I'm not claiming that your are crazy. But the ideas you promote here? Definitely.

Obama is the real OUTSOURCER AND CHIEF!

Obama has given millions if not billions of stimulus dollars to other countries.

Obama and Hillary as we know now outsourced security at our embassy in Libya and now we have Americans dead.

President Obama let China raise Tariffs on GM's made in America large engine cars, as a result GM owned by the Government and Unions agreed to build a Cadillac Manufacturing plant in China.

Similarly, by letting China place a 30% tariff on American-made excavators, Obama virtually forced Caterpillar, one of America's most efficient manufacturers, to build new small crawler factories in China and give technology to its Chinese partner in order to access the Chinese market

Under Obama's stewardship, every month for the last 27 months, U.S. net exports (exports minus imports) in goods to China have fallen steadily due to the Chinese government keeping out made-in-America products. Month after month, our trade deficit with China worsens, setting a new record:

Carletta Ashby

If Obama wins our only hope is that the Mayan calendar is correct and we go flying off the planet. If he wins and I was a millionaire, I'd be moving myself and my money to another country. I'm even considering moving to Costa Rica--I wouldn't have to worry about the Mexican drug cartel because they will be here enjoying the DREAM Act.

Why wait? Go on ahead and move out now if you think the U.S. is so terrible a place to live!

You kind of have to wonder where some of these people are living...or maybe they're watching an endless loop of The Road? Is there an epidemic of senility here? Is anmesia really that prevalent?

Put on your thinking caps, conservatives, and go all the way back to four years ago when our economy was in freefall (thanks to the dismal stewardship of George W. Bush). Granted unemployment is still higher than it should be, especially in some places and for some demographics. But overall, over 4 million jobs have been created during Obama's first term and many states (the swing states) have lower unemployment than the national average. Don't forget that we lost nine million jobs under Bush.

Too many people are being frightened and brainwashed into believing that everything is terrible in the U.S. because of Obama. Reality says otherwise: the stock market is up, retailers are expecting a strong holiday season, most people can see that we are moving in the right direction, albeit more slowly than Americans, like spoiled children accustomed to immediate gratification, would like.

U.S.A. Love it or leave it!

Read the comment from the Right that were posted above...really read them and think about them. It's obvious that Conservatives have become radically unhinged. The conspiracy theories, paralyzing fear, hatred, and general closed-minded attitudes just scream when you look at them in total.

John: F6Zman is a prime example of the paranoia, unhinged nature of some of the RWNJ posts. His first post at #1.2 talks about Spain counting our votes, claiming treason and voter fraud, complete with a link to a debunked article posted on CNN iReport. All one needs to do is scroll down to the first comment that blows poor F6's claim out of the water. I've posted some of that commentary here...use the link to read the rest. F6Zman is a poster that deserves to be placed on ignore, unless of course you enjoy reading the one-liners posted by a raving lunatic. He rather reminds me of Brad Pitt's role as Jeffery Goines in Twelve Monkeys, a rather stellar performance.

Why is this allowed to remain posted? If you follow this story back you end up at the "Western Center for Journalism" which is a conservative blog. Conservatives have a right to their viewpoint, but here are no sources of any kind attached to the post. This particular upload is taken verbatim from that post and the sources it cites are, in order:

1: A reposting of the Western Center for Journalism's original post making the claims of "vote counting overseas."

2: A report from Fox News regarding the testing of internet voting machines done by what I can only assume was the Washington D.C. elections officials since no attribution was given. The company at issue in this article, SCYTL, nor the Tampa based corporation, SOE, that was purchased by SCYTL were mentioned because neither had anything to do with the D.C. machines.

3: A study of the internet voting machine system named Pioneer which studied how easily it could be hacked and how it could be made more secure. Whether or not this particular program is the one used in SOE's machines or if it in fact does allow for the transmission of vote counts has not been established. http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-776220

Romney is on record- unwittingly- as having already dismissed 47% of America. So explain how he works with both sides of the spectrum. As to this pathetic, sophomoric delusion that there is a "liberal media" that is somehow marching us all to the left, please explain why, then, EVERY SINGLE MAJOR NEWS SOURCE IN THIS COUNTRY GOT BEHIND bUSHCO'S CHEVY TO WAR AFTER 9-11 WHEN THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO INDEPENDENT EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT IT. If this silly allegation were true, CBS, NBC, and CNN (among others) would all have been holding bushco's feet to the fire for proof. Yet that didn't happen. The news media,ALL of it, fell in behind bush lockstep and never questioned things until far too late when American soldiers were dying by the hundreds and Iraqi civilians by the thousands. Why is that?

I read an interesting article yesterday where the pollster for John Edwards admitted under oath that Democratic polls are nothing but psychological operations that cherry pick and manipulate data to fire up their base or suppress the Republican base, and then went on to describe how he did it for Edwards and how difficult it became as Edwards lost ground but the candidate still demanded more positive polls showing he was still viable, even after the pollster personally told Edwards he was done, but , money talks. Fast forward to today and you can see the same thing, polls being manipulated to fire up the Dems and suppress the Republicans, think about it, at the height of Obama's popularity, he won by about seven percent of the vote, now look at these polls, where Dems are oversampled eight to thirteen percent!, up to five per cent higher than the high point of Obama's popularity!, even though his approval rating is thirty per cent lower now than it was then!, but not to worry, the pollsters aren't stupid,so, to maintain their viability, after they have done all the damage they can, you will see the polls come back to,"within the margin of error" ranges, (with their guy on the upside of course),so, win or lose, they're still good to go for the next election cycle.

From an outside view, worded a certain way you can make all religions seem silly, South Park on comedy central does a good job at showing this. Again I tend to judge people and their faith on their actions and behaviors today not on their founders or history. Christianity has had some questionable practices and leaders in the past but that shouldn't take away from the services that is being provided by Christians today. Islam's main man Muhammed married a six year old and had relations with her when she was 9 yrs old, yet I never had a problem with Islam until recently when they started their jihad thing which is a current problem and not something liberals tend to pass any judgement on.

I believe in a free and fair press, Logic, not in an addiction to the adrenaline rush of being constantly riled up and frightened by tabloid journalism.

Do you get your print news from The National Enquirer?

This country has been systematically brainwashed and dumbed down by a foreign tabloid journalist- Rupert Murdoch- who cares about one thing only: $$$$$$$

albeit more slowly than Americans, like spoiled children accustomed to immediate gratification, would like.

U.S.A. Love it or leave it!

Spoiled Children? You call asking the president to turn the economy around in a time period of four years "immediate gratification"? I'm sorry I assumed since every economic recovery in history was quicker and stronger then this one I don't think I'm being out of line saying Obama has failed to do what every other president in a recession was able to do.

Love it or leave it? If I had a conservative country to run to I probably would leave it. You liberals can have everything you like and think works in Europe (which is back in a recession and going broke) yet you stay here and continue to drive American policy towards something that is shown to be a failure with Greece, Spain, France, and most others struggling to keep a float and having 20+ percent unemployment. I see no conservative country for me to escape to as of yet.

So are you saying that anyone other than the media cannot post a truthful fact? No one can do their own research? It’s only TRUTH if the media posts it? So everyone on this BLOG is full of it? Every teacher doesn't know what they are teaching? Every author that ever wrote a book is lying? Then I guess every word out of politicians mouths are lies! Your naiveté is frightening!

So let's see Joe.....you're arguing something that is either false or hasn't happened.....on a class of people you've buried?

Do you get your print news from The National Enquirer?Actually I get most of my news from online. My daily look throughs are the Drudge Report, The Guardian, Huffington Post, Daily Caller, and of course MSN.

This country has been systematically brainwashed and dumbed down by a foreign tabloid journalist- Rupert Murdoch- who cares about one thing only: $$$$$$$ I don't know Rupert so I don't pretend to know what he cares about, but the brainwashing and dumbing down I think comes from the left and the liberal media who choose the stories the American public get to hear and the stories they choose to bury. Re writinghistory is another liberal tactic which confuses Americans to the fact it was a Democrat who stood in front of a school and fought against desegregation.

He couldn't care less about being fair and balanced. Sheesh, sometimes it feels like we're living in a country half full of four-year-olds. I think he cares about being different then all the other news outlets and giving the American people a choice on what they want to watch. Every station you don't have a problem with is liberal (which is why you don't complain) Fox gives the news from a conservative perspective which in a free society should not only be allowed but different points of view should be applauded.

Americans, think for yourselves and quit eating the lies Fox spoon-feeds you. American do think for themselves which is why they are choosing to watch Fox News.

Romney is on record- unwittingly- as having already dismissed 47% of America. So explain how he works with both sides of the spectrum.

It is not difficult to explain. the 46% or 47 % that depend from government thanks to the failure of the Obama economic policies, his 4 years of class warfare have an effect , now they are scare that Romney will take their benefits away, thanks to the lies of the Obama campaign machine , so for Romney is more difficult to capt a big majority of those votes it does not mean he won't take care of them regardless if they vote for him or not all is propaganda to embarrass Romney.

As to this pathetic, sophomoric delusion that there is a "liberal media" that is somehow marching us all to the left, please explain why, then, EVERY SINGLE MAJOR NEWS SOURCE IN THIS COUNTRY GOT BEHIND bUSHCO'S CHEVY TO WAR AFTER 9-11 WHEN THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO INDEPENDENT EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT IT.If this silly allegation were true, CBS, NBC, and CNN (among others) would all have been holding bushco's feet to the fire for proof. Yet that didn't happen. The news media,ALL of it, fell in behind bush lockstep and never questioned things until far too late when American soldiers were dying by the hundreds and Iraqi civilians by the thousands. Why is that?

You have to be bias to not recognize that CBS, NBC, and CNN (among others) are the PR for obama , 5 minutes watching those comments, ( not news) from the so called News Channels are enough to have a clear percetion of their liberal bias.

More proof that the Republicans have major issues with reality. NPR interviewed both Ohio Gov Kasich and former Ohio Gov Strickland this AM regarding the election and tonight's debate. The first thing out of Republican Gov Kasich's mouth was a statement to the effect that 'polls aren't accurate'. Really? I hear that alot these days, and it makes no logical sense to me. Why would a pollster purposefully release bad data? Like any other business, they have their reputation to protect. And bad data would not assure repeat business. I took probability and statistics, and you can make the same numbers tell different stories. But the Republican's insistence that all polls are ALL false(as long as they favor the Dems) is denial in the extreme, verging on a psychotic break. The only truth to escape Kasich's lips was having to admit that the economy in Ohio is doing quite well, and believe me, he choked on those words.

As long as NBC/Marist continues to over sample Democrats by 30%, their poll is meaningless. In 2008, when there were a record number of voters that identified with Democrats vs a record low for Republicans, there were only about 21% more Democratic voters (39% of total) than Republican voters (32% of total) - the rest being Independents. After the Republican blowout in 2010, does anyone really believe Democrats are even stronger than in 2008?

By the way - Marist has one of the worst track records of all of the major pollsters - missing the actual results by an average of about 3% for 2004 and 2008, biased for the Democrat - In 2004, Marist had Kerry winning by 1%, but the actual result was Bush winning by 2.4%. Others with a poor polling record of about 3% were Gallup, Reuters and surprisingly, Fox News - all of them were biased towards the Democrat by about 3% when compared with actual results.

The most accurate major pollster was Rasmussen, who's average error for 2004 and 2008 was a miniscule 1%, and their bias was a miniscule 0.3%.

These results are from the final polls as reported by Realclearpolitics, which also had a Democratic bias averaging 1.2% for the 12 major pollsters for 2004 & 2008 (In other words, the average final polls overstated the Democrat's margin by 1.2% when compared with the final results).

If you want the REAL estimates, I would suggest looking at the pollster with the best record - Rasmussen, which has it at 49% for Obama vs 47% for Romney nationwide - easily within the margin of error.

I hope Republicans keep up the charade of thinking the polls are biased, it will be all the more rewarding when they get spanked on election day.

On another note, in 2008 I voted for Obama of course, but I never stopped respecting McCain. I respected his record, his service and what he's done for Arizona. I want republicans like McCain in the senate and congress, maybe not the presidency, or as my elected official, but I recognize the need for the opposition. Romney, however, I have nothing more than disdain for. He's another rich, whining baby that will say anything to get elected. Why the republicans chose him is still baffling to me. We could have had a real debate tonight, one that touches on important issues. Instead we won't really know what happened until tomorrow morning, when the fact checkers sort through the word salads we are about to hear.

It will be interesting to see how and if Romney actually answers some key issues. With things like an actual plan. Or just more skirting around issues. And when he does put said foot on mouth. I wonder how long it will take to retract such statements. At least even if I disagree with some of what the President says or does. He stands behind those statements.

Man, it is amazing to see all the lemming here. First off, the polling is biased because the they are not bolling with proper percentage breakouts. They are OVER sampling Dems and under on Reps.

But hey, it you like having your country give you everything and not working for it, we can start welcoming oursselves to Greece.

Socialism does not work and has been proven soooo many time that it does not work. The freedoms that you enjoy today are not because of socialism but rather capitalism.

You will NOT get ahead in a socialist society. If I work really hard, I expect to get ahead and if I prefer to be laid back, that too is an option. That is the choice I have which s afforded to ALL. Your choice is there but in a socialist society, the moment you try and get ahead, you are taxed like crazy because you must be oppressing someone else.

Really, all of you here want slavery under an opressive system such as socialism!? Who wants someone else telling them that they cannot over achieve or even achieve! Weird, and you people are all over it. Remember "redistribute wealth". That is SOCIALISM. It is not a good thing. I understand standing up for principles but look at who you are standing up with.

Eileen-2117949 "Why would a pollster purposefully release bad data? Like any other business, they have their reputation to protect."

It's not much of a reputation if they consistently miss the mark, but then who knows if the media reporting the news doesn't report their mistakes.

NBC uses Marist for their polling, and in 2004 the final Marist poll showed Kerry winning by 1%, but the actual result was Bush winning by 2.4% - an error of 3.4%, biased toward the Democrat. In 2008, Gallup had Obama winning by 11% in their final poll, overstating the actual margin of 7.3% by almost 4% - again biased towards the Democrat.

Did you see any reporting on the mistakes and Democratic bias in the Liberal media?

At the end of fiscal 2008, the National Debt was $9.98 Trillion according to Obama's White House Budget figures. As of yesterday, it was $16.159 Trillion. According to Obama's own 2013 Budget projections, if we continue to spend at his projected rate, the Debt will be over $20 Trillion by the end of 2016, and over $26 Trillion a few years later.

That is a Debt that we are passing on to our children, and even Bill Clinton recently sounded the alarm about the unsustainable Debt figures and the impact on the economy when interest rates increase (as they inevitably will because of the Deficits).

Can we REALLY afford four more years of Obama?

You blame Bush because it was under his watch, but the reality is the downfall started under President Clinton. The Glass-Steagall Act was removed under Clinton and paved the way for the Sub Prime Division of the Banking Industry, THE SEED OF THE ECONOMIC DEMISE. Greed run amuck. They passed out loans like candy and ignored sound fundamental principles and we all know to well the outcome.

Unfortunately for Bush, timing being everything, the Dow fell after reaching the 14,000 area, it made a 50% retracement, which is a typical natural move for the Market, it had to correct and it did. For the most part, the Market regulates itself although from time to time, world events and Government policy will have it's influence. The President doesn't have control over the Market, but he will get the credit one way or the other depending on the situation. In this case, the perception of blame is layed at the Republicans feet but it's not all their fault, Clinton and the Democrats had a major part.

It's been four years now and you cite that the Market is up under Obama, which it is but not because of him, it's the Markets natural flow. The Market is approaching the the same height under Bush and guess what, it's now time for another correction. I don't believe it will be to the same degree as it was under Bush, but it needs to come down, probalby around the 10,000 area, and then should rebound, but if it happens within the month it will project a negative image which could hurt Obama election wise.

Just for the record, Romney is NOT the face of the wealthy. The top 3 wealthiest indivduals in America are Democrats, Gates, Buffett and Ellsion. Of the Top 20 on Forbes list, 60% are Democrats. Of the top 15 Politicians in Congress, 8 are Democrats with a Democrat heading the list, so this perception that Republicans are the EVIL RICH is not true, so think before you spew class warfare.

I Wonder What Mick Romney Opening Zingers will be During the Pres Debate. Maybe He Will

Start By taking a play of out Tim Palenty's Old Playbook. . . .

Declaring that Pres. Obama is Engaging In "Class Warefare" Since that is Their Favorite Terms To Use When the Rich are Down and Out.

I hope Romney says This.

So That the Real Truths Comes out on This Matter:

Whose Engaging in Class warefare ? ? ?

Well The Replublicans Are . . . . Because they have been Responsible For:

1)Saying that the working poor and lower middle class 47% do not matter to them

2)Using every dirty Jim Crow tactic to prevent Voting by the Poor (Req Ids to vote, Striking Down Registered Voters in FL)

3)His Party (R) Was Responsible For the Biggest Economic Collapse Since the Great Depression and who did that hurt the most . . . The poor and working Class

His Party (R) Was Also Responsible For More Jobs Being Outsourced (During the Bush Administration) than Any Time In History ! ! ! who did that hurt the most . . . The poor and working Class

Hence, Now NO or Very Tiny Middle Class Is Left .

Now Because of His Party, The Rich are Even More Hated By The Poor And Poor Are Even More Hated By The Rich ! ! ! (Now THATS CLASS WARFARE).

I Truly Really Hope That Romney Brings This Issue Up So That Pres. Obama Can Pound Him to The Ground On It ! ! !

Obama's latest ad here in Ohio says he will cut the deficit in half ( he said that in 08 too ) The way he plans to do that he says is end the war in afganistan and somehow create ( just like in 08 ) 1 million new jobs. N ow the problem with the math if you can add and subrtact that is. He plans to use the money saved from ending the war to rebuild infrastructure and hire 100,000 new teachers. Now unless i am missing somehitng here if you continue to spend the money that is driving up our debt won't the debt still continue to rise ? It seems to me that Obama has the missguided assumption we can spend our way out of debt.

All I am trying to point out here folks is. We have to really view each candidates claims and history like our country depends on it because it does. We need real leaders in power not smooth talkers or good debaters but people in all branches who truely have America at heart.

You're right. People HAVE To make sacrifices! Good for Romney for being HONEST saying the middle class is going to have to pay more taxes. The rich can't pay for EVERYTHING! Yes, some government assistance (scholarships, etc) will have to go! We have all this debt, how the hell else are we going to pay it off? We can't just keep giving out money like it's nothing, and expect the debt to go down. EVERYONE, "elitists", middle class, AND the poor will have to make more sacrifices. If I am having trouble paying my bills, I cut unnecessary spending, the same way our country needs to.

I make about $25,000/year and am 22. This is not a good salary, I know. I do not consider myself poor. I have a car, a dog, an apartment, an iphone, and eat pretty well. I am not poor. I'm sick of all these people complaining about how poor they are, and how the rich don't pay their "fair share". IF YOU OWN A SMARTPHONE, YOU ARE NOT POOR. A smartphone is a luxury, people, not a necessity.

I kid you not, an idiot my dad works with admitted to him that he and his wife aren't married so she can get welfare. He makes $80,000+ a year (CNC Machinist), and they get welfare. He has a brand new truck, a nicer home, and nice things. My dad told him he was an enemy of our country, and we will be turning him in soon. I understand that it's a very small percentage of people who do things like that, but it pisses me off. THIS is the kind of people Romney was talking about when he was talking about "the 47%" (even though it's not actually 47%).

Anyone who believes this is a complete idiot. Because Republicans don't support tax payer money paying for women's (or mens's for that matter) birth control and abortions we are the equivalent to the Taliban? The Taliban and others you listed practice things like the stoning of women, honour killings of their daughters, banning of education.

That is how it starts. Anyone who doesn't believe that has forgotten our own history. The ideals that are espoused by the Taliban are the same ideals that are espoused by the extreme right wing in our country; that women must be submissive to men. The difference is that we are still a nation of laws, so the right wing in our country cannot get away with the violence that the Taliban get away with.

Your argument is one of degree, not of direction. President Obama has turned the economy around. Economists agree that the turnaround would have been accomplished more quickly without the foot-dragging of congress.

The Republican party would rather see our country fail than see President Obama succeed, and that is a truth you can't deny.

That's not what the GOP leadership tells us. Paul Ryan says the U.S. is a "right-of-center country". Do you trust him...or not?

Just out of curiousity, have you ever been to Europe?

1- It has speed dial for food stamps

2- It has speed dial for unemployment benefits

3- It has speed dial for free health insurance

4- It has speed dial to anything else I want free

I watch it last night and fox would play a piece of the tape then tell you what to think of it and play another piece and tell you what to think. I don't think its going to have to affect you and Fox are hoping for. Sorry every one is not a gullable.

Ken: I don't know about the rest of you, but I went to Fox News and looked at the 2007 video.

IT SURE LOOKED LIKE THE PRESIDENT TO ME.

There was no look-alike and yes, it WAS A RACIALLY MOTIVATED SPEECH!

Thank you, President Obama for showing your true colors!

"When 9/11 happened in New York City, they waived the Stafford Act. ... And that was the right thing to do," he tells the crowd at Hampton University in Virginia. "When Hurricane Andrew struck in Florida, people said, 'Look at this devastation. We don't expect you to come up with your own money. Here, here's the money to rebuild. We're not going wait for you to scratch it together, because you're part of the American family.' "

Obama, echoing rapper Kanye West's infamous anti-Bush remarks a couple years earlier, then argues that New Orleans was treated differently, suggesting the reason was that the city is mostly black.

"What's happening down in New Orleans? Where's your dollar? Where's your Stafford Act money?" Obama says. "Makes no sense. ... Tells me that somehow the people down in New Orleans they don't care about as much."

My biggest issue is that Romney is planning to remove tax deductions that middle class families, like myself, use. But at the same time, he will give a tax break to the people like himself.

He admitted that he will consider taking the "axe" to popular tax deductions, like the home owners interest rate deduction, or child deductions. This will immediately impact my family, and other middle class families, while having little impact on the rich. Romney himself will still keep his tax shelters, and give himself a tax cut. So he will make me pay for his tax break.

I may not be a fan of Obama, but I can not bring myself to vote for the removal of tax deductions I need. It now comes down to a very personal decision: Do I vote to keep the tax deductions I need, or do I vote to remove them. Simple as that.

I heard Biden telling the truth yesterday and it was refreshing. He said that in the last four years under Obama the middle class had been buried! He was right on the money on that one!

Obama claims to champion the middle class, but under his policies the middle class has mo0veed downward to lower class. That, I think has been his plan all along! Every move he has made has been to move all workers in this country into one category. Sure they are all middle class now. Right where he wanted them!

Obama claims he will not turn Medicare into a voucher program but anyone who has read his new healthcare law knows that he intends to destroy it completely! My mother and father in law have seen their out of pocket expenses go way up. It is becoming increasingly harder for them to pay this cost and still have money for other necessities! This was knowingly built into Obama's plan!

Obama claimed his administration would be open and fair, but 19 of his czars refuse to give out any information on their activities under the Freedom of Information act. What Oh what could they be hiding!

Obama, stealing our future one lie at a TIME!

I believe the country is "right-of-center" but I think many people have been fooled (I was one of them when I was younger - registered democrat until 2002) and think they are democrats because they think democrats are for the middle class and poor. It wasn't until I got older and actually paid attention that I realized democrat policies hurt the middle class and poor and that the democrat party wants more government control, and intrusion in everyday life which I'm against.

Just out of curiousity, have you ever been to Europe?

Yep. I have been to Frankfurt Germany twice on business. Europe is a wonderful place to visit and great for tourist but while in Germany many of the Germans had unpleasant things to say about their neighboring countries and their policies, although we joked back and forth on things we didn't like about each others countries as well. I'm not saying everything Europe does is wrong and bad, but if high taxes and Large Government policies were the answer countries like France, Spain, and Greece should be huge successes instead going broke and having huge protests. In fact countries like Finland and Switzerland who have the most free market economies are the ones also doing the best when it comes to unemployment and money. Most European countries have a much higher personal tax then the United States but our corporate tax rates are higher which puts our businesses at a disadvantage.

Like I said in a ealier post (1.39 ) most of the bigotry I hear about the Mormons comes form the left.

Judge people and their faith by the way the live their life and treat others not by some 200 year old history. Romney along with most Mormons conduct themselves in a better manner then most Americans. They give more to charities, they are more faithful to their families, and are less likely to come down to the levels of others with name calling and labeling others beliefs or lack there of as being a cult

Unfortunately, the dumbing down of America is well under way. Many American’s, especially liberals, have become self-absorbed and intellectually handicapped by a sort of “fast food style decision making process” driven primarily by short sound bites of single issue constituency rhetoric. Respected Democratic presidents such as JFK would roll over in their grave if they could see what Obama has done to our country and to the once proud Democratic party.

Beyond the obvious moral decay accelerated at an exponential rate by this president, the economic damage he has done lays in wait like an iceberg on a dark ocean night. Ninety percent of risk is lurking below the surface and remains invisible to those consumed by this “fast food style decision making process” and short sound bite single issue constituency rhetoric!

Obama induced debt (deficit spending) acts like a cancer on our nation and American society. Cancer grows and cannot be contained without serious and often invasive treatment. The cure itself poses serious side effects. We can look to Greece as a sort of microcosm of what Obama is doing to America with what may go down in history as the “most reckless fiscal policy in the history of the industrialized world”.

China and others have warned America and the world about the inherent risk in Obama policies, but it appears it will take yet another credit downgrade and perhaps a complete economic collapse for some Americans to wake up to the “harsh and frightening reality” of America’s future should Obama be reelected! STOP OBAMA NOW!

Before Romney’s time as governor, Massachusetts ranked 36th out of 50 in job creation, but over the course of his tenure the state ranked a dismal 47th out of 50—even as the national economy was growing. The Bay state only beat Michigan, Ohio, and Louisiana—which was still recovering from
      the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Try reading the whole article at "FactCheck.org" and don't post it like you are the one writing it.

Romney came into office in a state ranked 50th in job creation and left office with a state ranked 28th in job creation.

As we wrote in an item this week when an Obama ad claimed Massachusetts “fell” to 47th under Romney, in the 12 months before he took office, the state ranked 50th in job creation. That ranking remained 50th during Romney’s first year in office, but by his final year, it had improved to 28th.

It’s true, according to unemployment data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, that the unemployment rate in Massachusetts was 5.6 percent when Romney took office in January 2003, and it was 4.6 percent when he left office in January 2007.

Who wouldn't go for an unemployment rate of 4.6% right about now?

Of course we want to destroy the country. You see, none of actually live in the U.S.A. We don't live there, our children and grandchildren don't live there. Why should we worry about clean air and water in the U.S.A. or the national debt when we're all living in Mexico. We just swapped places with the illegals and became "undocumented Mexicans."

As for the U.S.A., we have to destroy it in order to save it.

I believe the country is "right-of-center"

Many people do not want a "right-of-center" country, myself included. I support fiscal conservatism, although neither party currently demonstrates this (both spend just as much as the other), but I also support a more libertarian social policy. By that, I want less government in my personal life. That means completely removing religion from all politics, as religion is a personal issue, no government involvement in marriage, personal decisions, etc. To me, "right-of-center" means more government in my personal life, and leans dangerously close to a theocracy.

It wasn't until I got older and actually paid attention that I realized democrat policies hurt the middle class and poor

Neither party truly helps the poor, and you are a blind partisan hack if you believe otherwise. The GOP policies of trickle down have proven ineffective, and Liberal entitlements have not helped either. What we need is a policy that allows the middle class and poor to keep more of the money they earned, so that they have more disposable income to spend in businesses the rich own, thus giving the rich more money through the companies they own. The rich still get their money, but instead of getting it through tax cuts they get it through their companies.

In fact countries like Finland and Switzerland who have the most free market economies are the ones also doing the best when it comes to unemployment and money.

Those countries also have social policies that are completely at odds with the GOP. For example: Finland has health services provided by the State, this is free to anyone under 16 and all preventative care is free. From there, the authorities can charge an annual sum or a fee per visit.

They also provide unemployment allowances, maternity and paternity allowances, and only have public schools across all grades. Granted, there is no barrier for private schools to enter into competition, but very few have.

So, although they may have more free-market qualities, they also have a fair amount of "socialism" policies in place. I don't think you would agree with their approach.

Don't worry Obama will make noise while Iran finishes their nukes and blows Israel of the face of the earth. That way Obama didn't kill 7.7 million Jews the Iranians did it.

Obamas rules of war have had these results.

          Afghanistan KIA
Americans killed in action under George Bush 2001 - 2008 970
Americans killed in action under Barack Obama 2009 to present 1,450

Obama is better then George Bush. In 3.5 years he has already spent more money then Bush did in 8 years.

Obamas greatest achievement has not getting into the White House. It was in 1995 when he forced banks into giving bad loans to unqualified home owners. It was called the CRA Lawsuit and was the main cause of the mortgage meltdown.

The CRA Lawsuit setup the right conditions for Obama to make it to the White House in 2008.

FYI All the economists say we are going back into a recession in 2013.

I'd say that really makes a strong argument for re-electing a community organizer instead of a financial genius.

Oct 1 one of the first parts of Obamacare began.

If you are treated at a hospital and show back up for more treatment in a couple days the hospital will be fined because you returned. That will make them happy to see you!

We just got our 2nd credit downgrade. I haven't see any of you liberals listing that great achievement.

Also China and Japan now refuses to loan us any more money. Now it's all being "borrowed" from the Federal Reserve. That means the printing presses are running full steam and it will soon be worthless.

          $50 a loaf bread anyone???

The 47% are the ones with the most worries. Next year when Obama finally bankrupts America all the checks and freebies will stop.

Obama himself is the one screwing the 47% and they will find that out real soon and it will not be fun!

I'll concede that Clinton's administration had a hand in it too.

For the most part, the Market regulates itself although from time to time, world events and Government policy will have it's influence. The President doesn't have control over the Market, but he will get the credit one way or the other depending on the situation.

It's been four years now and you cite that the Market is up under Obama, which it is but not because of him, it's the Markets natural flow.

The stock market is cyclical, October historically being the month when the Dow falls to its lowest point. The recent rise in the market is one measure of the direction in which the economy has moved under Obama. The economy is not all doom and gloom as some would have us believe.

First, I have never claimed all rich Americans are 'evil'. Second, we are 34 days out from the presidential election and rich-boy Romney is one of the contenders. HE IS EVIL.

Romney is a lying, pandering, greedy man without a conscience or an ounce of compassion. He called his way of ruining companies and communities "creative destruction". Call it class warfare if you like. Romney is the one waging it, and he is losing.

We have lost an unbiased media years ago and now I don't take what ANY media says anymore and don't trust polls that are not taken with proper statistical methods. I guess we will have to wait for the election before we REALLY know what the result will be.

We lost face with many country's when we attacked Iraq and it was all on a lie. And now President Obama has worked to regain a relationship with our neighbors and many of you want to go back to the Bush days by voting for Romney? President obama has us heading in the right direction to putting people back to work but we must remember that it was the Republicans in the House that has kept you out of work by saying NO-No-No at the Presidents jobs bill. Logic requireed-

"You spread these lies but actually the Catholic church and other Christian churches are actively asking their members to vote for Romney because they disagree with the Obama mandate that requires faith based hospitals to cover things like the morning after pill which goes against their beliefs."

Really? I would like to know what exact churches you are referencing too, becuase a church that activily supports a candidate in and election, especially if by name, can, and will if proved, lose its tax exempt status in the US! So, please, prove your point, name the church specifically, and perhaps the quote....I am sure the federal defecit will go down, once that church or churches are no longer tax exempt. This information is available from the IRS public affair offices.

Now, a church can and do advocate a belief or agenda and that is fine and legal. so if a church says "When you vote, consider which canidate will be pro-life" is fine. If a church says "Vote for Mitt Romney, for he is Pro-life", well then that is another matter entirely. I, personally, support Churches in the right to advocate beliefs or comment on politcal ideas, as seen through their religeon, but am horrified when a church starts advocating specific candidates. In my opionion thats a big step closer to a theocracy. Imagine, if I, as a catholic, was told that I would be excommunicated for voting for a democrat. At that point our government would be basically the same as Iran's. I eagerly await your answer and specific proof.

48 to 46 is NOT a statistical tie. If the sample size is around 800 likely voters, that would indicate Obama has about a 70% chance of actually being ahead in Virginia. His 47/46 lead in Florida translates into a 60% chance of actually being ahead.

The Associated Press has clear rules for describing such outcomes, and you are not following them.

Because they are actually or statisticaly ahead because of the margin of error, it is considered a dead heat. Is there a chance that Obama is ahead....yes, but their is also a chance that Romney is ahead, therefore they call it a statistical tie.

ALSO, they are planning to create millions of "jobs" by ripping the environment with low income jobs drilling for coal and oil. Your town will be a cesspool, and the jobs will just be temporary part-time jobs that won't last.

BUT THE POISONING OF THE WATER, THE RIVERS AND OCEANS WILL LAST FOREVER!!!!

Yes, we have. About 4 years ago. Didn't matter then, and I doubt it will now.

I respond.....Why do you insist on blatantly lying? It is obvious from your post that you have no idea what you are talking about when you say silly things like "low income jobs drilling for oil and coal". That is just plain stupid.....unless you are in the 1% and you think that $100K a year is a low income job.

PutAmericaFirst, you seem confused about some statistical notions.

The margin of error is calculated as the difference needed before you can have 95% confidence that the leader in the sample is also the leader in the population that sample was drawn from.

But differences below that level are also significant - they are just not significant at the 95% level.

In this case, Obama's lead in Virginia is significant at the 70% level.

There is only one kind of tie, "statistical" or otherwise: identical numbers.

In fact, the term "statistical tie" is inherently misleading gobbledegook, not based on actual statistics. That is why the professional standards for journalism prohibit using it. Hence my complaint to the incompetent and/or deliberately deceitful journalists using it in a headline.

You seem confused about the mathematical precision of statistics. Statistically speaking, the average American has one testicle and one ovary. (Margin of error less than 1%)

I think the point everyone is missing is that Obama is NOT running for the first time.. This will be his second term he is going for.. Have you walk around your neighborhood lately?? Forclosed homes, more homeless panhandling, higher taxes, less services for veterans, less services for students.. Don't be blinded by the crap these libterds are spewing.. It's all just "fluff".. My daughter just graduated from High School this June with high honors.. She can't even find an entry level position, hell she is having a hard time getting a job at McDonald's.. This economy sucks so bad that the employers are hiring people with experience so first time job seekers can't get work.. So you tell me.. Are you really that better off with Obama?? This question doesn't pertain to the welfare addicts getting free cell phones and other services on my dime.. Of coarse you are.. For some reason the working class got screwed during the last for years.. Thanks Obama..

We don't want to go back and relive the last four years, or even worse, and that's all Wrongme's got. 17 of 24 advisers on his staff are recycled Bush advisers.

            Denver bill -- old joke.

Fwiw, I think the average number of testicles is actually a bit above 2, given the frequency of men with three versus those with none or one. But I might be wrong. And many women have 3 or 4 ovaries, but more women have probably had theirs removed, so I wouldn't hazard a guess there.

More to the point, a reputable statistical result includes an estimate of its precision, hence the ubiquitous "margin of error" that is so often reported to give an approximation of that.

If 95% of white voters vote for Romney like 95% of Afro-Americans will vote for Obama (according to the latest polls), Romney would be ahead by a landslide. I just wish people would vote based on the issues instead of along racial lines. That way the best person for the job would win.

If 95% of racists weren't Republicans (I don't believe that most Republicans aren't racist, but I do believe that most racists are Republican) then perhaps the GOP wouldn't be so easily branded as the party of hate. Then it might actually attract a cross-section of the electorate instead of being hijacked by the "I hate _______" (fill in the blank) crowd. But when you field candidates who say things such as: "I don't want to make black people's lives better by giving them somebody else's money"- Rick Santorum (The question was not even about Black people) and commentators such as Ann Coulter who say things such as: "Our Blacks are so much better than their Blacks...", I think it's obvious why the GOP can't find support among Black voters.

Republicans are running out of steam and have resorted to pulling out all the same old tactics against Obama from the 2008 election. They didn't work then and they won't work now.

All we need for another Obama and Democrat victory again is voter turnout. If most of the registered voters show up, then it'll be a win for the Democrats in the White House and in taking back the Senate.

Poor voter turnout by the left and moderates is the only way Romney will win this one.

We need to get everyone committed to vote and to encourage others to vote.

The GOP is a damaged brand, and is losing more voters every year with changes in demographics and updated social attitudes. The GOP idea of a better future is to retreat to a nostalgic view of the past that really never existed as they fantasize it did for most of us. I guess the days of the robber barons are sweet if you're in the top .01%, but clearly not for the rest of us.

Democrats are looking to the future based on education and building an infrastructure to tackle today's problems and make America a better place.

JimCA: First, it is clear you have never taken a college Statistics course and don't understand what a "margin of error" means. And your "percentage" calculations were actually quite humorous:)!! To state that and pretend it meant something and proved a point was quite funny:)!!

But let me see if I can summarize for you. Say 1000 people took an exam and you wanted to know what the class average was. So you ask one person and they say "I got a 60%". Can you use that information to assume the entire CLASS averaged 60%? Of course not.

So you ask 9 more people and find those 10 averaged 75%. Can you use that information to make an inference on the class average? Actually you can but you would have to give it a WIDE margin of error (this is actually calculated but too complex to explain here). So let's say you come up with a margin of error of +-8% meaning you have a certain level of confidence (usually to 95% confidence) the class average is between 67% and 83%.

But that is STILL quite a range so you ask 20 more students so now have 30 total and find THAT average is 78%. Now you can start feeling a LITTLE more comfortable but still cannot say for certain 78% and will actually be a range (let's assume it is now +-3% or between 75% and 81%). In other words just because a sample comes up 48% to 46% doesn't mean this irrational and illogical percent you came up with - since it is a sample either of these numbers can be off a number such as 3% which means "statistical tie" since we don't know for certain. I suggest you take a college Statistics course before you claim to know some illogical method to analyze a sample result - because it is that: illogical.

Polls are like water, they flow whichever way the banks go. Polls are meaningless. The fact is most people could care less at this point in the election. Electorial votes are the votes that count and President Obama has had a lead in those votes for quite a while.

Actually, polls are not meaningless, because they inform people about where to allocate resources.

Right now, Obama is virtually certain to win, and the Democrats are very likely (80%) to keep the Senate.

The chances of Democrats winning the house are only a bit better than even, so that would be the logical place for people on both sides to focus now.

                    "Polls are meaningless."

Yep - the side TRAILING in the polls always says that. Bit if polls are "meaningless", why do candidates spend so much money on polls? Sorry republicans -- the problem isn't that the polls are stacked against you, the problem is you have a lousy candidate with no ideas other than the failed policies of the past.

Every one knows that Obama is going to win MA. So what's the point. I live in Colorado and I see no Romney signs here. I put two Obama signs in my yard and someone keeps taking them.

Do they bring them back, and then take them again, or do you actually keep paying the $15 each to replace them? I sure wish people would at least get their lies straight. We Independents actually think things through.

Last I heard Obama has a double digit lead in Massachusetts and Elizabeth Warren is leading too. Did you watch the debates? Brown went from one childish insult to the other. He is an empty suit that is a mouthpiece for the insurance industry. Go Warren!

Think about Biden becoming President "In a Heart Beat".

Obama's biggest Waterloo, is the debacle of the Libyan Terrorist Attack acknowleged as the "Films" fault, when they knew a lot of information before it happened on 9-11. Stevens Diary, telling the US Government he was in trouble with no Security in Libya. He was on a growing Al-Qaeda hit list, of increasing numbers from this Terrorist Group operating at top Level again. 2 previous Attacks. No word to Americans.

"It's the Economy". 2 major hurdles to Overcome. BTW: the Terrorists are referred to as "Killers".

The Job Market is realistically about 22 per cent Unemployed. The Inner City People who Obama's tries to reach, are the ones with the largest number of Unemployed. They should ask, "What have you done for me lately". Hand out Phones.

It's going to be a tight race; the Polls cannot be exact, using the 2008 method of Polling--

Good Luck to Obama and Romney---this is "it"---a word or phrase can change the Election results.

What is scary is the amount of vitriol and mindless hate being spewed in these (and most MSNBC) political posts. Scary is thinking that Charles Manson might live to see Helter Skelter. This vitriol is being led by mindless morons starting at the top of the Democratic Party and mindless morons on the right reply in kind.

Not providing guards for Ambassador Chris Stevens after his request - inexcusable.

Apologizing to mob protestors in Egypt about a film they hadn't seen and couldn't have understood if they had until the Egyptian government acquired it, translated it and showed it on government TV - inexcusable.

Running apology ads on Pakistani television denying any United States' involvement in the planning, filming, editing or posting of the "blasphemous" film clip - inexcusable.

Not allowing embassy guards to carry loaded weapons at the Egyptian embassy - inexcusable.

Trying to pretend that the assassination of our Libyan Ambassador by heavily armed militia was a "reaction" to this mysterious Mohammed slandering film, and repeating it for almost 2 weeks, sullying the career of Susan Rice and everyone else that perpetrated that lie - inexcusable. You'll notice that Mrs.
Clinton, Secretary of State, was virtually nowhere to be seen or heard - this was her job and her error, costing the lives of 4 United States citizens, including a sitting Ambassador - on 9/11!

For Obama not to slap down his PAC for ads implying that Mitt Romney was directly responsible for a woman's death from cancer as grossly over the line - inexcusable.

To keep using the "Big Lie" theory (if one repeats something often enough and loud enough, it will eventually be perceived as true) regarding "Mitt Romney will raise taxes on the middle class by $2000". This number was generated by a left wing think tank that was trying to deconstruct Romney/Ryan's plan to save Medicare without any facts and without any numbers from the CBO. So, they made some assumptions that "inadvertently" led to this prevarication - inexcusable. Joe Biden still uses it as a battle cry.

Mitt Romney's stated stance is to reduce taxes by 20% across the board (everyone) partially by closing special interest tax loopholes used by the ultra-wealthy and partially by re-energizing capital investment and creating new jobs (and more taxpayers) - for positive cash flow, something the United States has not seen in years.

On the other side of the coin, Mitt Romney will cut the corporate tax rate from 35% (the highest in the world) to 25%. The current rate is why even all American companies have moved their Headquarters offshore - to reduce the enormous tax load. Why did one of the founders of Facebook get a passport from
Singapore and reject his American citizenship right before the company went public? Established US companies have TRILLIONS sitting offshore because of the US tax code. That will help get more money reinvested in the US economy, meaning more jobs, more taxpayers and, hopefully, better times.

Another item that Mitt Romney should implement because he has the integrity to do so, is the line item veto. You want to cut the pork evenhandedly AND get more bi-partisanship in Congress? Limit the amount of pork per bill to 1/2 to 1% of the bill's annual expenditure. If it is too frivolous, the President line item vetoes it. More bills will pass through Congress with a little Manteca added to the gears.

                    Romney/Ryan 2012

The narrative of a possible Romney comeback in October starts right on cue.

If this makes you feel a little stressed, stop, DO NOT panic! It is a predetermined story, no matter what the numbers from this poll were going to say. If anything, it's a good thing for Obama because it will reinforce his backers to get out the vote.

Plus, as I've been saying all summer -

                      TWO WORDS: Nate Silver.

Agreed. But also check out the Princeton Election Consortium by Prof. Sam Wang. In my opinion he does a much better job than Nate. For example, in 2008 Nate's prediction was off by 18.5 EV's, while Wang's was off by 1.

I don't understand why so many people gravitate towards Silver. He doesn't have much of a track record from what I have seen and has only been predicting elections for about 4 years. He got one right. Does that make him a master?

Silver started his current website at the New York Times in 2008, but he was doing essentially the same thing for quite a while before that on his own -- back to 2000 or before, I think.

He was one of the first people to aggregate results from many pollsters and put them into one coherent framework.

You can fault his methodology, as he does a lot of at least plausibly justified tweaking to the raw values reported by pollsters, but his approach is far less likely to produce off-the-wall results than you would get by looking at just single pollsters.

For my money, Prof. Sam Wang at Princeton does a better job by simply looking at the poll results and not adding a lot of adjustments based on the economy, convention bounce histories, etc. But if Nate keeps it up, he might find a set of adjustments that actually do improve on the raw summaries, so there is merit in his approach.

Laulaus, no one predicts statistics. (At least I've never seen anyone do that.)

Statistics are, by definition, values computed from observed data: means, modes, medians, standard deviations, etc.

Probability talks about predictions, and is a whole different ballgame.

You can use statistics to produce probabilistic estimates or predictions, but the two notions are conceptually quite distinct.

And if you don't trust statistics, then the next time you have your blood tested for something, be sure to insist they take ALL of it out to measure. Otherwise they'll be computing numbers based on a small statistical sample.

As far as the whole Doctor statistics part of your statement that was laughable.. Doctors don't always have it right either.. Not everyone polls.. So to say the President is winning by a landslide due to polling results is seriously deluted.. Non-polling people will definitely give this race the element of surprise.. That is for sure..

The second will be anger ("You democrats must be cheating!")

Followed by bargaining ("You can have the presidency again, but let us have the Senate.")

                        Gov. Brewer said..

"What happens next has become all-too-familiar in Arizona: Flags will be lowered in honor of the slain agent. Elected officials will vow to find those responsible. Arizonans, and Americans will grieve – and they should.

"But this ought not only be a day of tears," Brewer added. "There should be anger, too. Righteous anger – at the kind of evil that causes sorrow this deep, and at the federal failure and political stalemate that has left our border unsecured and our Border Patrol in harm's way.

"Four fallen agents in less than two years is the result."

Brewer then attacked the Obama White House for an observation it made in 2011 about security at the border.

"It has been 558 days since the Obama administration declared the security of the U.S.-Mexico border 'better now than it has ever been.' I'll remember that statement today."

If you want to put these polls in perspective, here are two very good sites:

Prof. Wang at Princeton takes a very straightforward mathematical approach to combining poll results, and his past performance is excellent -- over the past few elections, he's been shown to often be both the most accurate and the most precise among poll aggregators and analysts, or tied for same:

                          http:/ /election.princeton.edu/

He gives Obama a 100% chance of winning if the election were held today, and a 95% chance of getting between 280 and 357 electoral votes in November. (270 needed to win, btw.)

Nate Silver uses a more complex analysis that throws in many of his own assumptions about economic news, convention bumps, etc., and also has a good track record:

                          http:/ /fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/

His now-cast (i.e., if the election were held today) has Obama's odds at 98% and Romney's at 2%. His forecast for the election gives Obama an 85% chance of winning.

Bottom line, unless there is a MAJOR game changer (and a couple of zingers in a debate does not come close), Romney is toast.

Last month the Obama administration started its third round of printing fiat money (currency that a government has declared to be legal tender, despite the fact that it has no intrinsic value and is not backed by reserves). $600 billion is the current estimate. That's almost $2,000 apiece for every man, woman, and child in the country!

In the past, when governments have printed fiat money to cover their own expenses, there has been a short-term economic bump, but then inflation is always the ultimate result. To us, personally, that means that, if Obama is reelected, the buying power of our savings and income will be severely reduced within about 18 months. Think about what you will need to do in order to survive inflation - it will happen.

Romney, by contrast, is a proponent of fiscal conservatism. That is, he recognizes the ill effects of deficit spending.

Under Romney, inflation may be relatively mild; under Obama it will be brutal. If you are lucky enough to still have a job, your salary will not go down, but it will buy a lot less gas and groceries.

Kannin can you honestly say that this approach has never been tried before by any other President? I remember why Obama was elected: to save us from republicanism.

Who wants to go back to being a slave to a republican?

The repubs ruined this country before Obama showed up. There is a real reason you people call him our Messiah. He's your Messiah too Kannin. Unfortunately Obama will save your a$$ right along with mine.

Quite correct GOPisextinct, it was tried by President Paul von Hindenburg in the early 1930's leading to the infamous hyperinflation of the Weimar Republic. Recall the pictures of citizens with wheelbarrows full of the currency required for even a single loaf of bread.

When a government prints fiat money just to cover their own irresponsible spending, inflation always results.

Kannin, we have about 80 years of history that says you are flat out wrong.

The Great Depression was ended by massive deficit spending. FDR did some deficit spending his first term and things started to improve, but he then bought into your notions to produce a more balanced budget, and the country slid back into depression. The absolutely stunningly massive deficit spending for WW2 shot us out of the depression like a rocket, and without the massive inflation you claim should have happened.

More recently, we can simply look at Europe to see what your policy produces. For the past few years Germany and associated bankers have insisted on fiscal austerity measures as responses to the crises there. The result has been disastrous, as predicted: job and economic growth far below that in the U.S.

When TARP and the related stimulus packages were passed, people of your ideological persuasion screamed loud and long that those policies would lead to runaway inflation by early 2012. Instead inflation is about as low as its ever been.

People who ignore history and reality are doomed to repeat painful mistakes. And a lot of us are getting really pissed off being chained in the same boat with you.

                          JimCA,

You are absolutely correct with your historical analysis. I just wanted to add the following...

Most people think it was the stock market crash in 29 that put us in a Great Depression. While it was a leading contributor and started us on the path toward the depression, it was actually the austerity measures that Herbert Hoover implemented that threw us into the abyss. In an effort to "tighten our belts" and reduce the debt, Hoover implemented all sort of spending cuts. (Sound familiar? Hoovervilles anyone?) Those cuts shrank our GDP and put MORE people out of work. It wasn't until Roosevelt took office in 33 and began infusing money into the economy by public works programs did we start the slow climb to recovery.

By the way, our debt to GDP ratio after WWII was far worse that it is now but once we had a functioning economy, we were able to recover from it. In other words, dept is a long term problem while jobs are an immediate need and the only true job creator is demand.

Something else to add. Under Roosevelt the economy grew at 9% every year except for 37-8 when he backed off because of his critics.

The republicons are saying that the stimulus and QE are failures. I for one would not mind a 9% failure rate. We need another New Deal!

On December 23, 1913, the Federal Reserve System, which serves as the nation's central bank, was created by an act of Congress. The seven members of the Fed Board of Governors are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate to serve 14-year terms of office. The President designates, and the Senate confirms, two members of the Board to be Chairman and Vice Chairman, for four-year terms.

Obama designated Bernanke in 2010, apparently because he liked the job he did under Bush. The next President can fire the Chairman (or rehire him) in 2014. As a practical matter, that makes the President his boss.

                          http:/ /election.princeton.edu/ [remove space between / /]

where he aggregates results from many pollsters.

Here's the history of his predictions made prior to recent elections, with EV's for President:

                          2004:

                          • President: Predicted 252R / 286R, Actual: 252D / 286R [exactly correct]

                          2008:

                          • President: Predicted 364D / 174R, Actual: 365D / 173R [off by 1]
                          • Senate: Predicted 58D / 42R, Actual: 59D / 41R [off by 1]
                          • House: Predicted 257D / 178R, Actual: 257R / 178R [exactly correct]

                          2010:

                          • Senate: Predicted 51D / 49R, Actual: 53D / 47R [off by 2]
                          • House: Predicted 205D / 230R, Actual: 193D / 242R [off by 12]

Note that all of his errors have understated a lead.

His current predictions for this election:

                          2012:

                          • President: Predicted: 347D / 191R (95% confidence range: 280 to 353 for Obama)
                          • Senate: Predicted: 53D / 47R (95% confidence range: 50 to 55 for Dems)
                          • House: Predicted: 74% chance of D takeover

EVERYTHING turn sour AFTER Democrats controlled congress. Republican will be voted in across the board this election, so stop trying to confuse the misinformed democratic voters.

"Democrats HAD control of EVERYTHING for the 1st 2 years of Obamas presidency."

That's BS. The didn't have a filibusterer proof Senate until Senator Spector switched parties. But even after that it was only in theory. Joe Lieberman is an independent who voted against the Democrats as much as he voted with them. Kennedy was sick and seldom took part in. So rather than 60 votes, the Democrats usually had 59 or 58. If you don't have 60 votes, you don't control the Senate.

As for your comment "tarting falling downhill AFTER the Democrats took control of congress during Bush's 2nd term" -- how about telling us about one single bill the Democrats passed and Bush signed that crashed this economy. And for the record -- this recession began in early 2006 --- BEFORE the Democrats took over Congress. Bottom line -- you're simply spouting talking points and have no real idea what you're talking about.

Reading the FAQ, it looks like the above predictions are based upon a current snapshot of conditions today, not Nov. 6th. Nate Silver has a "Now cast", but he uses his poll aggregations to predict election day. I have a hard time accepting that the Democrats have a 76% chance of winning at least 26 House seats to gain the majority on election day.

Nate's Now Casts are pretty much in line with the Princeton meta-analysis for the present, as far as Obama and the Senate. He doesn't really talk much about the House, perhaps because 435 elections are too difficult to accurately predict in aggregate.

                            in reply to Charlie

it has become clear that the members of 2008 Congress have failed to live up to their promises. In just 10 months, Congress has passed legislation that would increase federal spending by a combined $454 billion over 10 years and raise taxes and fees by $98 billion over 10 years and has passed a budget resolution that would bring the tax increase to a projected $2.7 trillion.

Despite the Democrats' PAYGO pledge of no new deficit spending, legislation enacted thus far has increased spending much faster than taxes, resulting in an additional $356 billion in deficit spending. Only their budget blueprint, which assumes repeal of nearly all of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, would pay for all of their new spending.

Thus, the Democratic congressional majority has shown its hand. It intends to allow most of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts to expire and plans to raise other taxes to balance the AMT fix. Over the next 10 years, the budget resolution would raise taxes by an estimated $2.7 trillion -- more than $2,000 per household annually.

"The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting an inexperienced man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America . Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of Idiots such as those who made him their president." (said to be an English translation of an article in the Prague newspaper by Prager Zeitung)

Kannin, the Prince of Fools is desperately trying to undo what the King of the Tards screwed up in 8 years. It is not all the President, you people do realize that the TRUE power in Washington is Congress and they have been screwed up by the Republicans for many many years.

As far as quoting another Country who is in far desperate shape then us is just plain stupid... maybe like Iran, the Czech Republic believe the Onion articles like Iran does... next you are going to start quoting Wikipedia.

I think you and others like you are just upset that for once the American peoples voice has spoken and not the bureaucratic voices that your kind so admires. I said it once I will say it again, if we can give GW 8 years to screw this country up then we can give Obama another 4 more years.

He haw haw, good one. Truth is, if you've had your eyes open the last couple weeks, is that the President has been very Presidential the last couple weeks! Evidence? We are not in a shooting war with Iran ... or ... Israel ... or BOTH. Two countries led by Mad Men ready to take the world off a ledge into war.

The President did a splendid job of defusing a situation no one could win.

O and Joe; steady leadership for the future

studed - You give credit to Obama for not being at war with Iran?? Bizarre!

Obama's amateur, fumbling attempts at foreign policy have been an embarrassment to himself and to the US.

First, he publicly and loudly affirmed his support for a Palestinian state. This had the predictable effect of encouraging the Palestinians to seek their own separate state. Then, he had to order his Ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice, to veto any UN resolution that might actually create a Palestinian state, in order to salvage the Jewish vote.

Most presidents (not all) have had sense enough to be consistent in the messages they send to the international community. Reversals, like Obama's, only create an atmosphere of uncertainty and distrust. Far from having prevented war, Obama's blundering could well be an important factor in the Middle East violence we see today.

To put the opinions of a Prague newspaper in perspective, the Czechs were brutalized by the Soviet Union many times ("Prague Spring"). Now they see Putin as trying to rebuild the Russian hegemony, and Obama being his willing puppet. ("On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved but it's important for him [Putin] to give me space." - Obama - 3/26/12)

It is no wonder that the Czechs have contempt for Obama.

Thats some tortured logic there. First give a pass to the current President while bashing the former, then say it is congress. Wow. And when did the Democrats take control of the congress? 2006 wasn't it? Up until 2010, which the Democrats still have the Senate.

And just when did the economy start to got to hell and who had control of congress? Oh yeah, the Democrats.

You stand corrected. The Democrats took control of the senate in 2006. They took control of the House in 2008, when President Obama was elected. They lost control of the house in 2010. That's 2 years they had control of both the house, and senate in case you can't do the math. The economy went to hell in 2007, while Bush was still president, after 8 years of a failed economic policy, of low taxes for the wealthy, and deregulation, and a Republican congress. Not "tortured logic"...fact. If you're going to purport to know the facts...the least you could do is know the facts.

The Romney team exhibits many traits of the GW Bush administration. In addition to surrounding himself with former "Bushies," the Romney camp is (like Bush) a one-trick pony. It lacks the capacity to pursue more than one issue at a time, selling out to whatever is the hot topic of the day to the virtual exclusion of all else. It then recycles the old issues which have cooled considerably when there is not a banner headline of high importance. Moreover, the inability to manage his own campaign in a consistent and effective manner makes Romney a very chancy selection. In business, things get done because ultimately all issues are decided by the person at the top. Even when power is delegated, it is still under control of the person at the top and it can be withdrawn or overruled without stated reason. That is the principal reason successful businessmen have not fared well in government service ~ ~ ~ ~ it is not a corporate dictatorship.

I think you need to recheck your facts. November 2006, the Democrats won control of the house, leading to Pelosi being the speaker, the Senate was a virtual tie, broken when james webb won virginia and conrad burns conceded defeat, ending in a 51-49 senate.

If you're going to purport to know the facts...the least you could do is know the facts.

That was also the time when 15 out of 19 congress critters under investigation were republicons, and there was that big problem in the DoJ. Can you say Monica Goodling?

Speaking of Bush... LOL, I just love how during his 8 year tenure you never heard 1 damn complaint from the Repubs on how he ruined the country and spent billions on war... but yet all they do is complain about O. I am even had some very unbright people on here arguing with me that Obama started Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan... LOL Republicans like to daydream. The fact of the matter is this... when Bush took office the United States was in a great place... 4 years later... Bush destroyed us... another 4 years later and he totally annihilation our country. How do you expect Obama or ANYONE to fix in 4 years what Bush ruined in 8? If we could give that mindless Bush 4 more years, then Obama surely deserves another 4. As far as Obama not getting anything done in 4 years... why don't you ask the Republican leaders in congress why. Just like they cheated and stole 00 and 04, they are trying to steal 12 as well the difference is we are wise to their games. So glad here in PA a judge struck down the Voter ID law until after the elections.

I have read the comments and is in great dismay of all President Obama haters... really... Personally I do not have anything against those that are wealthy my only thing is they are out of touch and have no idea what real people the middle class and poor needs. The comment made by Gov. Romney of 47% American to a group of wealthy Republican, makes many of American ask themselves this question is this the person we want to be our next President? Keep in mind most of Americans fall into the 47% Romney says he does not care about and many of you are commenting on this discussion board today.... Again is this the person you need to elect President of the United States of America?

What about those who were middle class or poor and WORKED their way up to being wealthy? Are they still out of touch? Can they not empathize with the struggles? Or should we try to keep them down so that everyone is the same? Romney's comment was about the 47% that will vote for Obama NO MATTER WHAT. He DID NOT say he doesn't care about them. He said it is not his job to worry about them in terms of trying to convince them to vote for him. And he is right, they won't! There are also a large number of Americans who DO feel like they're victims, thanks to the government. There is no incentive to 'pull yourself up by the bootstraps' as we older folks were taught to do. The Democrats have continued to make it easier for people to 'just get by'. Sorry, but some of us want to do better than that. I have voted straight Democratic ticket since 1980; I am socially liberal and believe in a woman's right to choose and marriage equality. This time, I need to put my own selfish desires aside and vote for the person better suited to steer this country back into fiscal safety. Obama said 'if I can't turn this around in 3 years', etc. I plan on holding him accountable. OMG=Obama Must Go!

In the last 400+ days just what have the republicons done? They have created exactly "0" jobs while defeating 31 different Democratic jobs bills. What have they proposed? Social engineering including State Rape and Legitimate Rape with a "jobs" pinned on it. Those Democratic jobs bills would create up to 7.4 million new jobs!

Also, the republicons have been busy exporting American jobs. When they controlled the government they passed a law giving big tax cuts to corporations that export American jobs. When the Democrats tried to repeal that law in 2010, the republicons filibustered it. Then when the Democrats tried again last July, the republicons filibustered them again!

The party over country republicons clearly want America to fail.

You call the Republicans the party of NO because they won't let Obama further destroy our economy yet when the Democrats led by Dirty Harry in the Senate keep all the good legislation the Republicans in the house from even coming up for a vote, you point fingers and say the Republicans haven't done anything they promised. Can't have it both ways. Of course you do have the advantage of the larger portion of your base being those who buy every lie you guys pass out without question and say Praise Obama he gives us free stuff. I guess when your base is majority unintelligent and mislead rich liberals you can tell any lie you want cause you are preaching to the choir. Are you thinking of another swing state? Florida maybe? The polls have President Obama decidedly ahead in Ohio among likely voters, generally by 8 or 9 points.

                                http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/oh/ohio_romney_vs_obama-1860.html

The only bit of good news for Romney is that Ohio only puts Obama at around 266 electoral votes. He still needs one more state (any state) to win reelection. Romney may have to decide to stop trying in Ohio and focus on running the table in the other swing states, as unlikely as that is.

Here is the actual NBC News/ Marist Poll that was released yesterday. The big hurdle Romney has is his 42%/ 51% favorable/ unfavorable. I don't think a Presidential candidate was ever this disliked at this point in an election, though George H. W. Bush might be close.

Completely amazed at the number of people that blindly follow our current president. He has been an epic failure on so many levels and yet, there is silence. His administrations actions on the terrorist attacks on Americans on the anniversary of 9/11 are deplorable. His cover-ups and executive privilage on Fast and Furious are outrageous. He bungled the BP oil spill cleanup efforts, Where are all of the anti-war protestors that loved to call Bush a war monger? We just reached 2000k dead solders in Afganistan (his war, not Bush's). The deception on which Obamacare was passed (21 new taxes and there is silence), the same Wall Street bankers and CEO's which he loves to demonize have made record profits under his watch, yet unemployment is at record highs, Our nations credit ratings have been downgraded twice since he was elected, his administration has added 6 trillion dollars in debt, etc.............. The list is too long for one post. The number one reason not to re-elect Obama for me is the way that he has completely divided our country. He has spent so much time trying to convince every demographic that the evil republicans are against them, but please, name one that is better off since he became president. Unemployment is up substantially in EVERY group across the board, our household worth is down, the cost of healthcare has skyrocketed, the price of gas, food, utilities are all way up. It is amazing that the polls are even as close as they are, the media has spent so much time trying to convince the world that somehow uber wealthy Romney is the boogyman, but uber wealthy Obama is just one of us. Do some actual research and vote in the best interest of the country, not because some celebrity tells you Obama is cool.

Most Republicans ~ especially the movers and shakers in congress ~ are not better off with Obama. What is a bit sophomoric in your thesis is that you would attempt to show that Republicans haven't had a hand in most of the issues you describe, especially the credit rating matter and divisiveness. Had there been any genuine cooperation in congress we might well have not sustained the hickeys you list. But as we can see who was in charge during this time span, we can also see the causes and contributing factors. It is not likely that people consider Republicans "evil' but it is a source of hilarity that you try to paint them innocent.

Obama don't have to convince anyone that Romney is the boogieman, Romney is doing that for himself. It not obama war,it's our war whether you like it or not. One president started it and the war continues. Who's fault is that. Osama Bin Laden that's who. I don't believe in giving billionaires huge tax breaks sorry. There the blame for this mess as well as congress. Rich people stumping on little peoples heads. This has been going on for years. The whole countries in a mess! Corporations can hide their money in off shore accounts. So they don't have to pay their fare share. That is totally wrong. Tax laws need to be changed so these corporations pay there share. Screw Romney and his off shore accounts and anyone else that does that Republican, Democrat or anyone. Stick that where the sun don't shine. I don't see rich people ever suffering much anything, but there always complaining they want more and more. Greed is the ruination of our country, the rich are to selfish to share just a little so the lower class can move up in the world. Maybe there just afraid someone else might be able to have somethings in this world, like a better life. And that my friend would be to much to ask for wouldn't it. By the way, their are many ways to fix Social Security without cutting benefits. but hey the rich don't want to pay more, hell they starving already. They won't have a place to sleep if we make them pay more. They won't be able to buy that yacht to go sailing etc. God for bid we help anyone have a better life. American people aren't lazy like some suggest, We just want a better life and working for minimum wage will not get you a better life. We all can't be rich either, but if we work together rich and poor we all can live a better life. Our country is so Religious but when it come to money, you can forget about religion, because money and god don't mix. At that time, the poor man can just die in the hospital, the scum don't need to live anyway because he's been lazy, right. . We don't pay our bills, we don't have health insurance and it's all the poor peoples fault for being that way. Well my friend we can't all be rich but we can help our fellow Americans live a better life. We can care for each other rich, poor, black, white sick or dead. Why can we do this, We are Americans, We are the greatest country on earth. To remain that way we must help each other though the good times as well as the bad times. God Bless America the land of the free and the brave.

The division in the country was a direct result of GWB. It's funny how in your world the president wields absolute power. In the real world, a good percentage of what you are trying to blame on Obama is actually mostly about a terrible congress. Funny how you completely forget about the obstructionist house.

Just so we're clear; If Mittens somehow wins, you are going to be upset with him and ready to vote him out when he hasn't fixed all of the countries problems in 6 months... right? I mean, you wouldn't want to be completely illogical and full of partisan BS, right?

@Gilroy97... are you kidding me? As an Independend, I can honestly say that Obama is the most divisive President in my lifetime, and I go back to Kennedy! He has tried to divide black/white, male/female, gay/straight, rich/poor, Christian/muslim, young/old, Republican/Democrat, etc. This is the same guy who said 'there is no red America and blue America', the guy who said he would 'work across the aisle and bring Congress together'. He couldn't even get a single vote (not even from the Democrats) on his budget! 99-0 and 414-0. So much for your obstructionist theory! Now he says he can't fix Washington from the inside. Ok, so go back to Chicago and let someone else have a go at it. Someone who actually did work across the aisle in one of the most liberal states in the nation. In 2009 Obama said 'he will be held accountable' and 'if I can't turn this around in 3 years, it will be a one-term proposition.' I plan on doing my part to help him keep his word. ~~If you're not totally outraged by the direction of this country, you're just not paying attention~~

if the country is divided, it is not the President's fault, not directly. It is the peoples fault that can't get over the fact that he is of a different race. And to show you why I say this, just look at the teaparty, they only came alive after Obama became President, and they are the most racist group. Not to mention all the untrue attacks on Obama that are just ridiculous. No other President has had to deal with the crap he has had laid on him. A terriorist, really, he don't wear a shirt when he goes to the beach, yes that was one that a republican said about Obama. He is not a christian, there is no one shread of evidence. He doen't wear his blazer when he is working in the oval office, a republican said that also and then it was found out that neither did Bush, Reagan, or Clinton, but that was never brought out on them. Under handed personal attacks mean hatred that has nothing to do with not liking someone's policies, it goes deeper.

Yes, the tea party came about after he became President because of his wasteful spending; that's what the tea party is about. As for the rest of your silly 'attacks', it's about respect for the office. No other President has called himself 'eye-candy', or been seen shirtless; no other President has been asked 'what controversial sex book is on women's nightstands'. And oh, btw...you are very wrong about GW and his dress code, look it up. He had a very strict dress code, not only for himself, but for everyone. Reagan is also said to have never entered the Oval Office without a jacket and tie. Again tho, please stop with the 'deeper' reasons....his policies suck!! ~~If you're not totally outraged by the direction of this country, you're just not paying attention~~

Even Santorum admits they have no inteligent people in the Repub party, Pawlenty ran away from Romney, O'Riley does not think Romney can change the outcome, Colter said if we nominate Romney we will lose..So is that a conspiracy, or just some right wing pundits just facing the truth..Just asking ?

Absolutely ~ just as soon as you recant and admit lying about the campaign commercial stating "If we keep talking about the economy, we will lose" which was attributed to Obama when it was actually McCain who made that statement. Its a bit too late to get all righteous, PAF ~ there is too much evidence that your camp has mastered the craft of taking things out of context and distorting truth. Its not wise to fall under indictment by your own hand.

I'll mention him. I have worked directly with Gary Johnson, and I found that he had a very short attention span when it came to learning about complex issues affecting New Mexico. He lacks both understanding of, and interest in, science and technology which are, arguably, the most important driving forces in today's society.

As a result he made some bad decisions for his state that are only now being corrected.

Right now I would consider the polling for the sake of the electoral college just as meaningless. Just because someone has the lead in the 3rd quarter doesn't mean that they will win. The only score that matters is the one at the end of the game. Until that time, we should be looking at policy, not polling.

Obama can NOT run on his sorry record!!

[I]f you don't have any fresh ideas, then you use stale tactics to scare the voters. If you don't have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from." That is what Barack Obama said when he accepted his party's presidential nomination in 2008. Four years later, it reads like a prophetic description of his re-election campaign.

After listening to obama in '08, he told us he could resolve our problems and if not, it would be a one-term deal. Well, our problems are not resolved....guess he just under estimated....and you're still buying his rhetoric

Some people are gullible. Obama first tells us I can fix this and if I can't I shouldn't be president for a second term. Now he tells us he was wrong, but given 4 more years he can fix this, yet he still hasn't even come up with a plan to fix things. Obama is in over his head.

You're nieve. Wall street and the banks are doing great. That means the country is doing great, they just don't need american workers to make the senators rich anymore. Outsourcing is where its all at.

Obama said things should turn around.

They have. Even if things aren't that good yet, they are getting better for a change.

We were losing 800K jobs per month when Bush was in office. Now we're adding 150K or so.

And even given the horrific situation Obama was handed, he still has seen more job growth than Bush did in either of his terms.

We still have a long way to go to get back to where we would have been if it hadn't been for Bush, but that's hardly a reason to go back to the policies that screwed us over in the first place.

If Obama had been able to convince the Republicans to go for a stimulus package about three times larger, the recession would be long over by now and unemployment would be down around 6% or less. But their job #1, as they stated so clearly in their words and demonstrated so clearly in their actions, was to defeat Obama, not help people get jobs.

Kick the Republicans out of the House and we might really get the economy rolling again.

Actually...that's not exactly what he said. What he did say was that if he didn't do a good job, it would be a one term deal, and if the American people didn't like the job he did, in 4 years they could vote him out of office, which you will get a chance to do next month. What he didn't say is "I will fix everything in 4 years, and if I don't I won't seek a second term." I know...I know, Republicans have a hard time with the facts, and an even harder time with the truth, but...if you're going to quote the man, you might try a little harder.

That Promise was made under the assumption that the GOP would work to resolve our problems, not block and stall, as it has done for the past two years. Instead, it was all about "Making Obama a One Term President". Once again, the GOP has proven that the GOP is in fact a "Failed Party". For the past two years it has put winning in 2012 over the best interests of the Nation and its People.

The GOP has become a mere shell of its former greatness, It is a party of the Radical Right, which would never have nominated, nor supported Ronald Reagan as President. Moderates have been driven out of its ranks, and for it, winning has become the most important issue, not Nation, not People.

Obama has saved this country from a big recession, done right with foreign politics, is a decent person, and showed he walks the Christian talk by virtue of implementing Obamacare. He deserves a 2nd term.

What was 2009 and 2010? That was the depths of Bush's Great Recession. We are all better off now than we were then. It is a historical fact that Democrats are better at handling the economy than republicons.

What about Rev. Wright? He is closer to the truth than Pat Robertson.

True News of the day.. ..... ... More brave Americans die under the inept obama( Ambassador Stevens& crew, another dead soldier from Afghanistan)
