Gallup has him +6, and the RCP average of all polls +3.9, which has been a win 17 out of 19 times this point going forward. Only two exceptions, Truman in 1948 (when there was only 1 national poll) and Gore in 2000. Averages predicted Gore winning on a national basis, which he did win the popular vote, he just failed on the electoral side.

Which interestingly, is a big hurdle for Romney. The State Polls reveal a bigger lead for the president than the national polls do. Over the last 4 weeks the electoral map has shifted against Romney. Every state shift has been more to Obama. Connecticut went from Lean to Likely, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, New Hampshire all went from Toss Up to Lean Obama. And Missouri is now from Lean Romney to Toss Up.

Arizona is shifting towards toss up territory as well.

Believe the polls all you want. The methodology does not reflect today's reality. How do you explain that buried in the Gallup/USA Today poll the stats that show Republicans have a 16% enthusiasm advantage over Democrats? At this time four years ago when this same poll came out showing the Democrats with a 20% enthusiasm advantage -- that was the headline. Today's stats were buried in paragraph 13 of 16 paragraphs. Today's CNN poll has Romney with an 8 pt edge with Independents and the skewed gap coming closer to reality. When every swinging d1(k gets into polling, it messes it all up.

But if you believe the polls, then you must also believe the embassy attack was due to a movie. Move over Ambassador Rice.

All but $10.00 of his medications are paid for by his employers medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance, now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs this day. Joe’s bacon is safe to eat because some liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.

Joe takes his morning shower reaching for his shampoo; His bottle is properly labeled with every ingredient and the amount of its contents because some liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some tree hugging liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air. He walks to the subway station for his government subsidized ride to work; it saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees. Joe begins his work day; he has a good job with excellent pay, medicals benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe’s employer pays these standards because Joe’s employer doesn’t want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed he’ll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some liberal didn’t think he should loose his home because of his temporary misfortune.

Its noon time, Joe needs to make a Bank Deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe’s deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some liberal wanted to protect Joe’s money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the depression.

Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae underwritten Mortgage and his below market federal student loan because some stupid liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his life-time.

Joe is home from work, he plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive to dads; his car is among the safest in the world because some liberal fought for car safety standards. He arrives at his boyhood home. He was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers Home Administration because bankers didn’t want to make rural loans. The house didn’t have electric until some big government liberal stuck his nose where it didn’t belong and demanded rural electrification. (Those rural Republican’s would still be sitting in the dark)

He is happy to see his dad who is now retired. His dad lives on Social Security and his union pension because some liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn’t have to. After his visit with dad he gets back in his car for the ride home.

He turns on a radio talk show, the host’s keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. (He doesn’t tell Joe that his beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day) Joe agrees, “We don’t need those big government liberals ruining our lives; after all, I’m a self made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have”.

This is the first poll in a while that is actually getting close to reality....but still skewed by a liberal polling method, by liberal pollsters and reported by the liberal media. The real poll is on election day and I pray all you name calling, lying liberals loose your beloved Obama from the White House.

Obama is a divider in chief who lies and cheats to get reelected...news just from today.....Ben Bernanke continues to print more and more money making it worthless, Obama told Defense contractors to break the law and not give their employees a 60 day layoff notice before election day and that the government will pay their lawyers fees when they are sued for breaking the law....he and the Dems are blocking the military vote...but will put an early voting box on any campus and any city....they don't want voters to show ID to vote, yet required 3 ID's to enter their convention....they are hypocritical and cheat.

Oh and what about flying off to Las Vegas to campaign just a few hours after a terror attack in Libya...or sitting down with the ladies of "The View" instead of meeting with world leaders. He is an embarrassment to our country.

The polls have always shown a lead for Obama even on Rasmussen so not sure what your point is other than to taint the issue. Obama is not a divider when a republican house is committed to blocking all legislation. The only way a bill can get passed by either house in this term and the next is with a super majority. Essentially the presidents veto ability is worthless is there is no bipartisan cooperation.

Love your argument about Obama being inept and taking a vacation. Never get old hearing republicans complain about Obama being lazy for extravagant trips, because Romney would be so unfamiliar with such a lifestyle...Give me a break.

Have you been paying attention to the job creation numbers and unemployment numbers for the past several months?

Yes. 4.5 million jobs have been created since Obama managed to reverse the momentum of the massive job losses he inherited from Bush. And it's not "blame Bush, blame Bush, blame Bush." It's the cold, hard truth. You can't have a guy inherit a country losing 900,000 jobs a month and expect him to make full recovery within a year. But since the moment that he was able to start creating jobs, Obama has created more jobs at a faster pace than Bush was able to after the very mild recession he dealt with in the early '00s. Yes, we have been paying attention. We've also paid attention to the fact that since Republicans in Congress made it their goal to make Obama fail, he's had a really tough time passing any legislation, even when Democrats controlled the House, because Republicans in the Senate used the filibuster like it was going out of style (something the Constitution doesn't permit... and to think that Republicans are the "Constitution-loving ones"...).

Even though a month may be "surprising or disappointing" for the number of new jobs listed, they still end up revising the number downward the next month!

Numbers have been revised up and down alike. This has happened since Woodrow Wilson was president, for God's sake. Let's not suggest it was the Obama administration that started to revise jobs figures.

For unemployment, when the numbers show a decrease, to the public it is packaged as a gain even if the reason for the decrease was a large number of people who gave up on searching for work!

You're being misleading. First, we've netted job gains for a while now. Since we started to gain jobs, we haven't had a single month of net job losses. Second, there are months when the unemployment rate benefits from people giving up, but conversely there have been months when it has been affected by more people being encouraged to look for jobs once again. How do you explain the fact that we were at 8.1% in April, and then in June we were at 8.3%? It wasn't because we lost jobs. We gained jobs during those two months, but even more people starting looking for a job. Republicans didn't seem to willing to discuss participation rates then.

Speaking of the participation rate (a much more accurate way of analyzing the jobs situation), Gallup puts the current percentage of adults with a full-time job at 45%, compared with 42.5% in February 2010 and one of the highest rates in the world currently. This means that we HAVE gained more jobs since Feb. 2010 than the unemployment rate suggests.

No. The defense budget cuts will affect contractors and weapons manufacturers, not the women and men serving in the armed forces. And those who build weapons? Those non-military R&D jobs? Are you also worried about those? If so, can we agree that we need revenue increases to keep those government-sustained (military-related or otherwise) alive? Or would you rather we kept spending $800 billion a year building an immense military apparatus and further increasing our debt, as opposed to using those $800 billion to, I don't know, pay off our debt or increase domestic spending in programs that will actually yield a tangible benefit for you and me?

Only about 1-2% actually pays for subcontractors that wouldn't have become necessary had the defense budget not by slashed under Carter and Clinton so the force structures had to be dramatically revamped.

Wrong. Of the $683.7 billion we spent in defense in 2010, $157.3 billion went to those in uniform in pay, benefits, or housing. The rest went either to waging the two wars that the Republicans got us into ($283.3 billion) or buildup/R&D.

If we had spent half of what we spent on waging wars over the past ten years on something like public transportation, we would have by now a bullet-train network far vaster and more modern than that of Western Europe or China. Interstate travel would be cheap, clean, and efficient. Traffic all across the nation would be reduced. Air fares would be cheaper. Or we could have spent it on clean energy: no dependence on combustibles or on foreign powers whatsoever. Clean air. More jobs here in America. Or on thorough healthcare reform to create a universal system. Everyone in this country would have ready and quick access to the very best doctors and hospitals on the planet. Canadians and Swedes would be green with envy. Or we could have just not spent it at all. The debt clock would be a few notches down.

Have you ever taken an economics class??? Recoveries after recessions have been getting longer for decades. In addition, this was a FINANCIAL CRISIS; financial-based recessions tend to take a long time to recover since consumers and businesses are busy paying off debt instead of spending the economy back to health. And by the way, job creation the net creation of jobs over a given amout of time; people who are looking for work are unemployed; big difference.

While we're at it let's talk about the 47% remark made public by one of Jimmy Carter's relatives. EVERYONE ONE IN THE DEVELOPED WORLD is dependent on government; it has been that way for well over a half-century. And by the way, that 47% number is the percentage of people who don't pay the federal income tax; of the 18.1% who don't pay federal taxes, 10.3% are retired, 6.9% are too poor, and only 0.9% can pay either tax but don't.

After four years of trying to plug the damn with cash we don't have, it is time to try something else.

First of all, THAT IS WHAT EVERYBODY DOES IN A RECESSION. Apparently you don't know a damn thing about economic policy. Secondly, THAT IS WHAT ROMNEY IS DOING; plugging cash via tax cuts. The only difference is that tax cuts haven't worked, unlike spending programs.

The average increase will be 3500 dollars/household if they are let to expire, but even that is deceiving as the higher wage earners are looking at a 14k increase while the middle tear is looking at 2k. Those not paying tax will probably bump up around 400 dollars, yet the Democrats in the Senate are struggling to address the cuts they been screaming to let expire and trying to renew them because they know that if they let them expire, all that BS about economic growth will get washed right down the drain.

Oh boo-hoo. We've had those useless tax cuts for 12 years, and it has done SQUAT. Just repeal them for everybody; everybody feels the pain, and everybody contributes to lowering the deficit. I could care less about who loses what in tax breaks; the tax cuts were stupid to begin with. And by the way, the VAST MAJORITY of those tax cuts went to the top 20% of Americans, not to vast majority of Americans.

The defense budget is the biggest welfare program in the damn budget for God's sale/ Besides, we have been at war for over a decade; we cannot keep spending like we are at war. And by the way we could easily avoid hitting R&D and procurement by targeting the $250 billion spent every year on overseas bases, which we could easily trim down to $175-200 billion, easily saving between $500-750 billion over 10 years. It's not drastic; plus we got some programs that we don't need, particularly the F-22 and perhaps the V-22 Osprey.

For all you Obama supporters just remember that Jimmy Carter was "ahead" in the polls by 3% one week before the 1980 election and Ronald Reagan cleaned his clock by almost 10 points. Also remember John McCain was ahead of Obama in middle September 2008 and we all know how THAT election turned out.

For all you liberals it is probably a good idea not to commit yourself to a win because so much can happen in just over 30 days and you really don't want to be totally embarrassed. Do I think Romney will win the election? I think so but certainly wouldn't commit this early because so much can happen in the next 30 days. All we conservatives were hoping for is to be within a rocks throw at the time of the first debate so the position Romney is in is extremely good and couldn't have expected any better.

Now we need to see what happens the next 30+ days. But I just MIGHT take a few screen shots of those of you SO confident that Obama will win because should Romney win I will most certainly enjoy rubbing your face in your loss if/when it occurs..................

Me thinks that NBC News and the "fiscal cliff" crowd is still holding onto some slim hope that Romney still has a chance. Notice the disclaimer about the "wider pool of registered voters" that the other unnamed study had that shows a much greater lead for the President. Who knows who NBC News and the Wall Street Journal called for their poll, maybe they only called a few hundred suburban households in the NYC-area, trying to save money on long-distance phone calls, and yet they are trying desperately to pass-off a narrow pool of registered likely voters as some kind of science? Then there are the recent blatantly-false comments about the President out of David Gregory too, which to me reek of desperation and dirty tricks. A Romney TV commercial playing here in the Denver-area also contains false statements about the President's record on the subject of job creation too.

Remember when the Dow was at 7000, or when every new day contained another blockbuster collapse or bailout of a major US financial institution, after a complete lack of regulation and oversight in the banking industry came very close to destroying the world economy? Remember losing 700,000 jobs every month, on top of the 6 million US industrial jobs lost just during GW's Presidency to the 30 different free trade bills that the Republicans passed during those 8 long years? Just think, if America just had half of those jobs back home again, our unemployment rate would be half of what it is now. And yet, Republicans in the US Senate voted in lockstep four times to block efforts proposed by the Democrats to penalize any US company seeking to offshore their production to the cheapest bidder, as well as proposed rewarding US companies seeking to bring their jobs back home again!

Remember the Republicans campaigning in the midterm Congressional elections on all of the jobs that they were going to create if they got elected? How many Republican bills to gut US environmental protection policy or to dump the Affordable Care Act made it through the US Senate? Zero. How many Democrat-sponsored bills designed to create jobs and to help our returning veterans did Senate Republicans filibuster, even bills that were fully paid for and which had bipartisan support in the House? 241 such bills were killed by Senate Republicans in the quest to try to make the President and the Democrats look bad, by keeping the economy as bad as they could possibly keep it.

Frankly, among the bottom 80% of the electorate in terms of annual income, Romney is more than 10 full points behind the President, and among the bottom half of American voters in terms of annual income, Romney could less what happens to them too. It is hard to believe that Romney is only 7 full points behind in the unnamed much wider and more-extensive poll, and as has been stated above, he is much further behind than 7% on the increasingly likely outcome of electoral votes, without which he can't possibly win, no matter how close any particular poll says likely voters are at this point.

My educated guess is that by this coming Friday, Romney will likely lose several percent of likely voters, since likely voters are also likely debate watchers, and by the weekend following the last of the three Presidential debates, Romney will join several other losing Presidential candidates who went into election day losing by an absurd margin in the polls. The problem is pretty simple. Romney doesn't represent all Americans, he only represents wealthy Americans, and ever since the Great Recession began in earnest six years ago, the number of wealthy Americans has been slipping too. I really don't see any way that Romney could win at this point, so why not save your money to spend on better things over this last month before an almost foregone conclusion at this point occurs?

The Obama administration is trying to subvert the military vote by failing to open military Voter Assistance Centers on more than half of the military installations. This was supposed to be done in accordance with the Uniformed and Overseas Absentee Voters Act and the MOVE Act -however, the DOD is not in compliance with the law.

Discussions are underway in the US Senate to forge a plan for sweeping cuts to social programs in the aftermath of the November 6 election. The New York Times reported Tuesday on moves by a bipartisan group of senators to come to an agreement so as to avert automatic spending cuts mandated in last year’s deal to raise the debt ceiling. That agreement was signed by President Obama on August 2, 2011.

Under the debt ceiling deal, Congress’ failure in 2011 to produce a deficit reduction bill with at least $1.2 trillion in cuts triggered some $1 trillion in across-the-board spending cuts or “sequestrations”—including to social programs such as Medicare and to the Defense Department—to begin in January 2013 and extend over 10 years.

These automatic cuts would coincide with the expiration in the new year of the Bush-era tax cuts as well as payroll tax reductions and federally funded extended unemployment benefits. The Obama White House and congressional Republicans agreed in December 2010 to extend the Bush tax cuts, including for the richest Americans, until the end of this year, while reducing the payroll tax and extending jobless benefits for the same period.

The combination of these expirations and the mandated deficit reduction measures has been called a “fiscal cliff” that threatens to plunge the economy into a deeper slump.

The “fiscal cliff” is being seized upon by the White House and both big business parties as a pretext to implement austerity measures of historic proportions. Cuts targeting Medicare and Medicaid, Social Security, public education, food stamps and other vital social programs will mean impoverishment and suffering for millions of working class families…

However, it is interesting to note that ontheissues.com contains two versions and explanations of the above mentioned votes. One set of points on the link you posted came from an author who is against Obama (i.e. Jerome Corsi in "Obama Nation"). Those points cast his votes in a negative light. The other set of points come from Obama's debate against McCain, as well as a pro-Obama author (John K. Wilson in "This Improbable Quest"). Those talking points note the reasons he gave for voting against the bills (i.e. a law was already on the books for working to save abortion survivors, and that the bills included language that left the door open to criminalizing abortion). Two sides, with different connotations, looking at the same incidents.

Is Obama all for slaughtering babies? I believe that about as much as I believe Romney actually wanted to roll the windows down on a jet. However, knee-jerk reactions and inflammatory rhetoric are most of what I'm seeing on here. Which is why reading through more than one source is a good idea.

Obama was in an awkard position. He had to support abortion and when the late term abortion issue came along, he had to support it since he supported abortion. He danced around the issue, baby vs. fetus, mother vs. constitutional rights of child, etc. Ultimately he supported late term abortion with the ususal caveats.

I support abortion up to the third trimester, after that, the baby is indeed a viable baby, not a cluster of cells that haven't formed into a specific little human.
