Biden says middle class has been 'buried over the last four years'

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Returning to the home city of the Democratic National Convention, Vice President Joe Biden said  that the two men on the GOP ticket have their wires crossed on whether or not the Obama administration has raised taxes.

"Even Romney had what we Catholics call an epiphany," Biden said of the GOP nominee's recent message slip on taxes. "Romney came out and ... said, 'they have not raised taxes on the middle class.' But apparently Paul Ryan has not gotten the memo!"

As the presidential candidates prepare for Wednesday's debate, Vice President Joe Biden spoke about the "buried" middle class, prompting the Romney campaign to suggest the President's policies are to blame. NBC's Peter Alexander reports.

Romney said last week at a campaign stop in Ohio that Obama intends to raise taxes, something the president "did not do in his first four years."

While Obama has not raised tax rates, he has signed legislation -- particularly his health care law -- that Republicans argue would yield major penalties for many middle class families.

Biden argued that the GOP, in contrast, would raise taxes on a middle class that has "been buried over the last four years."

That comment earned a scathing response from Republicans, who called it  "a stunning admission" about the White House's economic policies.

"Vice President Biden made a stunning admission today and we couldn’t agree more: the middle class has been ‘buried’ under the last four years of this President’s policies," the Romney campaign wrote in a press release.

Biden, who acknowledged that riders on Air Force Two had "queasy stomachs" after a bumpy ride to North Carolina, kept the crowd of about 1000 waiting for an hour due to the inclement weather upon arrival.

His plane aborted one landing attempt In Charlotte because of storms in the area and was forced to circle the airport for about a half hour before landing without further incident.

Hello out there! Obama makes 2 million a year. He went past the middle class a long time ago! He has already taken over 7 million/billion from Medicare to fund Obamacare. And Obamacare may hurt my healthcare and not help it. If the middle class has been buried the last 4 years--let's see now, who has been in charge the last 4 years. Obama and Biden and friends have buried us!! And they break the law, too!!! Since when is it okay for the president to break the law? And then there is the sinking foreign policy!! And it goes on and on and on!!!

As usual, the lunatics keep repeating the same mantra, LIE, that Obama takes money from Medicare to fund Obamacare, when they know very well that that money is not taken from Medicare but from the subsidies and money insurance companies receive to curb services to the ill and sick. That money that insurance companies use to deny care, because last year you took an aspirin, will go to a better use than to fatten those thieves.

But keep going anyway morons, you're just grabbing at straws in desperation, come November all of this will be academic.

    Obama 2012.

Obamacare is the largest tax increase on middle class in US history.

The reason people don't have health insurance is because they can't afford it........

Before Obamacare they are an uninsured person
After Obamacare they are an uninsured person breaking the law

    Yeah, that helped the problem.

Vice President Biden's statement is true for Paul Ryan is the Chairman of the Budget Committee. And Ryan's contribution has been great for the burying of the middle class, 98%, and Ryan's kindness to the top 2% is obviously noted, with the great support from the corporate in which many of the corporates have supported Romney/Ryan's campaign, which their campaign has nothing very specific for the 98%, for Romney mentioned that it has been easy to solve the problems of the poor people . . . which his comment has caught on tape.

How easy for GOP solves the problems of the poor, at least, the 96% Americans? Answer is as follows: cut the programs, raise the tax 3500.00 for all 90% taxpayers, which the middle and poor classes are guaranteed to be in, raise the health care cost for the senior, cut the social security benefit, raise interest rate . . .

Let me see if I understand......It's Bush's fault because he was a bad leader......But, Obama is not to blame for the last four years....It's the House of Representatives fault.....because they are Republicans?

Obama get's a pass for his lack of leadership, but Bush is at fault for his lack of leadership..... Wow!

Do Democrats ever take responsiblity for ANY of their actions?

      My Theory:

Health care will rise due to Obamacare......if the republican's are elected to office, they will be blamed for the mess that Obama created.....because.....Democrats never take responsibility for their actions. Oh, and interest rates will not go up for sometime. You see we have one heck of a debt.....and to pay interest on the debt at a higher rate would bankrupt this country.

        #108.1 - Wed Oct 3, 2012 1:16 AM EDT

Oh, and here is more information on the interest rate:

"With rates so low, it's as if the government is floating trillions of dollars in debt on one of those zero percent credit-card offers in the mail. Those are great while they are at zero percent, but if you don't pay the card off before the rate resets and shoots up, you can be in big trouble quickly.

"That's exactly the problem the federal government's facing," Kyle said. "So the big danger to the U.S. economy going forward is that interest rates go up."

"So five years from now, Kyle says just the interest on the current level of national debt could cost $750 billion a year." (If interest rates rise 1% during the 5 years.)

"That's a lot of bridges not getting built or Medicare not getting paid," he said.

And yet again, Biden shows his amazing knack of stepping on his own tongue. Yes, Joe - you are 100% correct - the middle class HAS been buried over the past four years. And, you and your Fearless Leader, Mr. Obama have been the ones doing the burying. Your insidious and underhanded raising of "fees" (since you don't call them taxes) have cost the middle class dearly, and your continual raising of the deficit will cost the children, grandchildren, and possibly great-grandchildren of today's middle class even more dearly. You, me, Mr. Obama, and most of the other adults currently living in the USA will all be long dead and buried, but the debt you helped create will live on and saddle those yet unborn for a very long time.

            Thanks, Joe!

Biden is being honest about the last 4 years! At least someone is acknowledging the shortcomings of this adminstration! We are heading down the road to becoming the next Greece and Spain. We are over the honeymoon phase with this Pres/VP and seeing them for who they are. Whether you love Romney or not, you should at least see he is capable of turning companies around and can help this country, and keeping China from owning us. This administation has not brought the parties together, rather divided us even more. They do not deserve getting the job again!!

I am also extremely concerned with the coverage of the state of the economy (and the downplaying as we are about to go into another recession), and the current foreign affairs. Do you ever ask why journalists favor one candidate so much? Aren't they just supposed to report the whole truth and we decide? Do you ever wonder why there are never interviews with Republicans on several of the media outlets? Apparently Rachel Maddow went the the Obama school of journalism.

Just search for the truth and do not listen to 2 minute commercials and biased shows.

What did the Biden family try to do to help themselves? Biden sons and brother tried to launch their own hedge fund and pressure firms for investments.

Yeah, that's change and that is how government is supposed to work. Funny how Biden tries to paint Romney as the bad guy, when Biden can't keep his own house clean.

Do Republicans think we don't know the middle class has been hit hard during this recession? Are they kidding? Of course the voters know. It's just that most voters don't blame President Obama. We think his policies have helped and that we're moving in the right direction. I know that's hard for Republicans to understand - we don't believe in trickle down economics. It didn't work when Reagan tried it and it didn't work when Bush tried it. Now we have a huge debt caused in part by two unfunded war, one of which was unnecessary and one which has gone way too long.

The Republican argument in my opinion is both ignorant as well as asinine! On the one hand, they argue that Pres Obama has failed to create ANY jobs, right? THEN, on the other hand they argue that 47% of Americans don't want to take responsibility for their own lives AND, they prefer a welfare state, am I right? Please explain how they arrived at these numbers? According to Lyin Ryan, 30% of Americans do not strive for or toward the American dream; but they just said on the other side of their mouths THAT THERE ARE NO JOBS! So; like I asked, where do they get these numbers from? How can the people work if there are no jobs? How do you know that they DON'T WANT TO WORK; if there are NO jobs?

Pres Obama should ask Splitt-Twitt-Mitt Robme during the debate, "Have you ever had to apply for a job? Ever in your entire lifetime?" Or, he might ask; "Gov. have you ever had to apply for food stamps or rely on gov't money because you could not find work?" Or, "Have you ever had your child/children sent home from day care because you had fallen so far behind in what you owed that the day care would no longer allow your child to attend?" Or, "Have you EVER had a utility turned off due to non-payment?" Mitt; this is REAL LIFE! If the gov't doesn't step in and help some individuals they simply could not and would not make it and that is NOT necessarily their own fault!

                  Right on...

Rich, You are wrong. They have never argued that 47% do not want to take responsibility for their own lives. That one occurrance was a not well phrased statement from Romney during a meeting. He has said on a number of occassion that upward to 23 million would like the opportunity to have a good job and cannot find one due to Obama's failed policies to bring the country out of the recession. Obama has by far the worst record of any president in getting the country out of a recession in the last 50 years.

Wingers simply cannot understand why most people do not subscribe to the lies they believe. They ask, "Why can't you understand?" Well, education and rational thinking are a couple reasons. Another is paying attention to what is actually happening, not to what somebody in the business of distortion and propaganda tells you is happening.

Bush's policies alone didn't lead to the collapse; but it did happen on his watch; therefore, he gets the blame. Understood. (Hint: It was policies inacted during the Clinton Administration that started the ball rolling....both democrats and republicans were involved. Google: the Community Reinvestment Act, Glass/Segal Act, Originate to Distribute model to start with....)

So, if Bush is to blame because it happened on his watch, why isn't Obama responsible for the failures of his administration?

Also, It would be helpful to the debate if you provided details of the "terribly bad and mistaken policies."

FAE2010; President Clinton DID make a mistake in allowing the repeal of Glass/Stegal. (Or whatever the proper name is!?!)

It was the TOTAL OBSTRUCTIONIST GOP CONGRESS that has led to the last three years of government in-action. With the TEApublican House and the filibuster CRIPPLED Senate, it is One Foolish Idea that the POTUS could get anything done with nothing more than a Presidential order.
