I have high hopes that Jim Lehrer will hold both candidates feet to the rhetorical fire and get them to spout more than sound bites and excerpts from their stump speeches. I expect that Governor Romney will benefit simply by sharing a stage with the President. I expect that the conservative press will say the Governor won, and the liberal press will declare the President the winner.
I predict the race will still be close and that each subsequent debate will be seen by 30% fewer voters than the first...
There are really no articulate words to describe the ultimate failure of the MYTH Romney campaign. Myth had the unmitigated gall to call 47% of Americas moochers and lazy. That includes veterans , who shed their blood, seniors who worked hard all their lives to put something in the US treasury for their retirement as well as so many other Americans.
I predict the debate will fall upon MYTH's nervous laughter and the MSM excitement to wrute
I think you're right Dangerfield and it is up to the mob to determine who won. Romney and Obama aren't out to convince their base or even strengthen it. Its the moderates that will determine. Cavete a suffragator.
I predict the race will still be close and that each subsequent debate will be seen by 30% fewer voters than the first...
To most people the commericals are bad enough how does anyone expect them to watch a debate? Heck most people don't even understand what the issues are. I know I'll be watching, but political junkies don't count..
The whole debate is a total farce...no questions of any merit are allowed ? Romney has been running for as long as i can remember. We still have no idea who he is and then he picks "cupcake "as his running mate ...Still we know nothing about either other then "Ryan "sports the "weekend lesbian look" when hunting ! GIVE ME A BREAK!
devie - you're right, a lot of people will not watch the debates. They either don't want to hear what the candidates have to say or they're just bored with the whole mess. I know I'll watch although usually these things make me angry since the moderators allow a lot of avoiding of the questions or just out and out lies.
It will be interesting but I'll definitely have a glass of wine while watching - makes it a little more palatable.
It's to bad that the Teapublicans have been such an utter failure the past two years.
Had they tried to work with the president maybe some of the "shovel ready" jobs could have been put in place.
As it is now, Romney is praying for a very large shovel to have at hand to dig himself out of the huge hole he's in. But, alas, there is no shovel at hand and not one big enough to help him.
The debates are at hand and Romney will be buried alive.
My expectations are simple. I expect Romney to lose.
so do Paul Ryan and Beth Myers, Senior Adviser for Romney.
Voters already believe—by a 25-point margin—that President Obama is likely to do a better job in these debates. Given President Obama’s natural gifts and extensive seasoning under the bright lights of the debate stage, this is unsurprising. President Obama is a uniquely gifted speaker, and is widely regarded as one of the most talented political communicators in modern history.
how nice of her to say nice things, isn't it?
This will be the eighth one-on-one presidential debate of his political career. For Mitt Romney, it will be his first.
except for the fact that Romney's been running for some kind of office for like 20 years now
Did you see the Gallup/USA Today poll today??? Buried in paragraph 13 of the 16 paragraphs is the fact that there is a 16% spread between Republican and Democrat enthusiasm -- in Republican favor. When this very same poll came out during this time in 2008, it was 20% points in favor of Democrats -- but that was the lead of the story. Not this time. If you may be a student of history, in 2004 the enthusiasm was a dead heat and the Republican won. Hmmm, I wonder why this is buried?
Also, the predictions today in the news that there would be record viewership of the first debate anyway, so I don't know where you got that "a lot of people will not watch the debates" when 50 million is the estimate.
but, but, how will Willard 'look' Presidential with the tape/audio has him saying..."My job is not to worry about those people", the 47% who pay no taxes and expect the gov to provide healthcare, food, housing.
I have high hopes that Jim Lehrer will hold both candidates feet to the rhetorical fire and get them to spout more than sound bites and excerpts from their stump speeches.
I have no such expectations. How about we have the candidates engage in a REAL debate where they are allowed to directly question and challenge each other on their positions instead of these Q&A sessions and glorified stump speeches?
With Jim Lehrer asking the questions, I hope for some follow-ups.
Then we'll find out what Romney's really got.
My impression is that he is almost 100 percent scripted all the time, he knows only those facts that he has been silver-spoon-fed, which aren't necessarily accurate, even then, and when he strays even slightly off his script, he makes mistakes. He is facing a situation where both faces are probably going to be in view at some point during the debate. And then, even his own supporters may be surprised by what they hear.
I may be partisan, but I know good rhetoric when I see it, and even when scripted, Romney is mediocre, at best. Without a script in uncharted territory, and my opinion is that he will be in trouble.
President Obama will win the debate on Wednesday, hands down.
old fat guy - so you think Romney will be transformed during the debates? Because we all know he hasn't looked at ALL Presidential so far. He's looked lost and confused - everytime he is anywhere.
Republican leadership has been distancing themselves from him because he is constantly looking the fool.
Anna Molly - you don't think that "deer in the headlight" thing will work for Romney? Neither do I!!!
By "Press" do you mean Fox News, the Wall Street Journal, and Conservative talk radio - you know, the Main Stream Media - will declare President Obama the winner?
Doubtful, they don't normally report the truth......
America will lose (again) if we go back to the failed policies of the Bush administration.
Why is the photo showing Mitt in an empty plane? Could the other folks have taken a different flight? One that offers windows that roll down? Shoot- I would.
Also- may I assume the debaters are not allowed to show slides or flipchart pages showing things like, say, the 'bikini graph' when trying to illustrate their point? And if so, why not? Too easy to shoot down 'talking points only' content?
Precisely what happened the night he was killed is unclear. But for an American ambassador to have so little security on the anniversary of Sept. 11, especially in a part of Libya known for its radicalism, is bound to raise questions, and in some sense, only adds to the irony of his death in a country he loved, and that for the most part, loved him back as an ally and a friend ....
With the State Department on high alert for security threats, especially since the Sept. 11 attacks, and many American diplomats consigned to embassies that resemble fortresses and armored motorcades that do not make unscheduled stops, Mr. Stevens plunged into Arab social life. He traded personal risk for personal contact.
His comfort with his environment and his distaste for displays of security, some quietly suggest, may have led to a touch of overconfidence that cost him his life. His lonely death in Benghazi, a city he knew well, along with those of three other Americans, came during a Libyan militia attack on the American diplomatic mission there, where his presence had not been advertised.
Unfortunately, Willard Mitt Romney is a Republican, as one of his campaign people pointed out, the campaign has nothing to do with the truth (or fact checking, as he called it.)
In his delusional mind, there is no need for Romney to speak truth, as long as he can get out the talking points and put forth a few zingers against President Obama.
It is good that Jim Lehrer is the moderator. He is one of the few unbiased TV journalists that are still around.
At the same time, further details about the attack could lay bare lapses in security that could damage the administration. CNN has reported, from a diary belonging to J. Christopher Stevens, the American ambassador killed in the attack, that he harbored worries about his security. Mr. Williamson, who served as special envoy to Sudan under President George W. Bush, said it was unlikely that Mr. Stevens would not have relayed those concerns to the State Department.
And why would he not do that? Because his goal was to tear down walls, not to hide behind them.
“There are a wide array of reports about warnings, and were they heeded?” Mr. Romney said to reporters on his plane Friday. “We’ll find out whether that was the case or that was not the case.” Similarly, Mr. Romney said it was not yet certain whether the administration’s changing accounts suggested “that they were trying to paper over or whether it was just confusion given the uncertain intelligence reports.”
To which there is only one reasonable response --
"Bin Laden Determined to Strike in US."
Why is this relevant?
Because -- and keep this firmly in mind -- 17 out of Romney's 24 national security advisers are former members of the Bush administration.
And Condolleezza Rice, who, as National Security Adviser, completely ignored THAT warning, was the one person that Romney chose to stand on the convention platform to talk about national security.
old fat guy - Romney looked ANYTHING but Presidential with the Libyan remark - and he was out of line making ANY comment. As past Presidents have weighed in on this recently, it is dangerous and inappropriate for a CANDIDATE to talk about situations that come up during campaigns. It makes them look rabid and ill-prepared.
We STILL don't have all the details about the situation and probably won't for months to come.
Romney should know to keep his mouth shut. Leadership in the GOP has not stood with him about his remarks.
I find it interesting that the white house is downplaying expectations for the debates. If their goal is to make Romney look like an also-ran, why not go for the jugular?
Beverly said: There are really no articulate words to describe the ultimate failure of the MYTH Romney campaign. I wouldn't say that Beverly... you make up things about the Romney campaign all the time. What I never hear from you is how much a failure Obama is. Myth had the unmitigated gall to call 47% of Americas moochers and lazy. No he didn't. You are making that up. He said that 47% of Americans wouldn't vote for him because they have become dependent on government and they view him as a person that would take away their entitlements. That includes veterans , who shed their blood, seniors who worked hard all their lives to put something in the US treasury for their retirement as well as so many other Americans. Maybe if you got your story straight Beverly, someone other than your Obama slurping liberals would listen to you.
Brianb - Beverly has her FACTS straignt. Veterans and seniors ARE part of the 47% Romney refered to. Perhaps if you bothered to get YOUR facts straight you could have an intelligent post - probably not but it's worth a try!
nomore, it may surprise you, but most Tea Party people are not Republicans, but actually Independents. Maybe you need to get out more and stop reading all the MSN baloney.
devie - you're right, a lot of people will not watch the debates. They either don't want to hear what the candidates have to say or they're just bored with the whole mess. I know I'll watch although usually these things make me angry since the moderators allow a lot of avoiding of the questions or just out and out lies.
The usual rant from SS as one of the members of the Populist Radical Popcorn. I believe there will be a record crowd looking at the debates. This will once and for all show who is really telling the truth.
I will guarantee that the Libya issue will come up and it will show a cover up by the President and the administration. The 47% will also be asked and with the video of the woman ranting about the "FREE STUFF" that Obama is giving might just put an end to this. It is unfortunately that the Free Cell lady is black like me. It really makes me fell ashamed....
Seeking, Beverly cann sure defend herself, stop beign such a wimp.
I find it interesting that the white house is downplaying expectations for the debates. If their goal is to make Romney look like an also-ran, why not go for the jugular?
the WH is downplaying the debates by saying the President is busy being president and not having time to practice.
The Romney camp is downplaying the debates by saying THE OTHER GUY IS EXCELLENT.
I really wish you people would quit saying that the 47% mentioned by Romney includes veterans and seniors. I can tell you that I am a retired member of the military and I draw Social Security. I pay taxes on both incomes every year. I would venture to say that more seniors than not are still paying income taxes, especially those with other retirement incomes.
sfcret - actually, the 47% Romney cited includes veterans; seniors who get SS, the diabled and poor. He didn't do his homework - as usual and lumped these people all together in his degrading comments.
If the righties on here are expecting a Romney win in the debates, they best not hold their breath. Just look back at the primary debates and see how Romney was confused and disorientated by the likes of Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum. And to be truthful, I really don't expect any game changing results will come out of any of these debates. The best one may be the VP debate which can sometimes ignite some fireworks, but not like campaigns of past.
tonybeeerm - and it does't help that Anne Romney said she is worried about the effect the pressure of the campaign is having on Romney's mental state. OMG - these two just get better and better!
I have high hopes that Jim Lehrer will hold both candidates feet to the rhetorical fire and get them to spout more than sound bites
As do I. I think the most embarrassing statements by each of the candidates need to be addressed by them.
In Romney's case, he has to explain exactly what he meant when he said "There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. ... "There are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe that government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it."
In Obama's case, he has to explain exactly what he meant in this exchange with Russia's President:
Obama: On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved but it's important for him to give me space.
Medvedev: Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you...
Obama: This is my last election…After my election I have more flexibility.
Medvedev: I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir.
ok AM, I understand with that JD you get habeus corpus, all whist mocking corpus Christi. I never said i was fluent in a language that is nearly only practiced by Catholics (not so much anymore) and Law.
Amy - but isn't it amazing the "new Romney's" are no better than the old? No improvement, just a slightly different slant, or should I say teeter? Sad - usually when you have the new version, it's an improvement!
Maybe it is because Romney grew up around the auto industry (thus making his "let Detroit go bankrupt" even worse)---he thinks there should be a new model every year.
Sounds like an apt description of how much the GOPTP party love their candidate, Romney. Of course there is also this Edsel gem that concisely describes Romney's lack of appeal. Seems corporate America's candidate just doesn't live up to average American presidential expectations.
Marketing experts hold the Edsel up as a supreme example of the corporate culture’s failure to understand American consumers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edsel
That Obama is a neophyte. Would Romney correct the nations problems? On his own no. by working WITH congress (democrats AND republicans), we will start to see CHANGE. If not, we'll just get more Obama FKA Commodus.
Unfortunately the hard left posters that occupy FR believe Obama can save everything by his lonesome. Hence the label of cultists.
I hear that between 1948 and 2008, we had a TOTAL of 39 months of unemployment over 8%. In the last 3 1/2 + years, we had 43. What does that tell you?
I tells me that GW Bush and trickle-down economics royally screwed the middle class and destroyed the American economy.
Caesar -
Would Romney correct the nations problems? On his own no. by working WITH congress (democrats AND republicans), we will start to see CHANGE
So would you expect that the Republicans would totally change course and compromise, or that the Democrats would just accept the Republican agenda? Republicans in Congress have REFUSED to compromise. Why would they start for Romney?
Steeler Fan...at least the auto industry gives us a year to digest the latest model....With the GNOP it's the Mythe of the week!.....I understand there will be a Mythe Bobblehead night at the debate.....tap its head - ask a question and it shakes all around.....letting you decide whether he agrees or disagrees with the question.......and I am sure that somewhere along the debate cycle - Mythe is going to pull a Palin and refuse to answer the question asked and go off and reply to something not even covered by the debate of the night.....
GNOP - we don't need no fact checkers..GNOP CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!
C'momn Mythe - show us the 1040's..What ARE you hiding@?X!
so have democrats, acting like spoiled children, We won. We control. Back seat etc.
Not so much. The "back seat" quote was another Obama line taken out of context by the Republicans.
Finally we got this car up on level ground. And, yes, it's a little beat up. It needs to go to the body shop. It's got some dents; it needs a tune-up. But it's pointing in the right direction. And now we've got the Republicans tapping us on the shoulder, saying, we want the keys back.
You can't have the keys back. You don't know how to drive. You can ride with us if you want, but you got to sit in the backseat. We're going to put middle-class America in the front seat. We're looking out for them.
Democrats attempted to compromise on the stimulus, the ACA and many other things during President Obama's first two years. All rebuffed.
Remember the "grand compromise"? The "number one priority is to make Obama a one-term president"? The Republican leaders meeting the night of the inauguration?
The "number one priority is to make Obama a one-term president"?
so you think back in 2000 that the democrats were about making bush a two termer? How bout in 96, repubs were on board with Clinton? DNC for Bush senior?
Democrats attempted to compromise on the stimulus, the ACA and many other things during President Obama's first two years. All rebuffed.
back door dealings are now considered compromise? I believe the senate and HOR have a forum for debate.
Paul---I wonder if Mitt will turn in precise 1/3 turns to face the audience like he does in public speaking (watch him--it is almost hypnotic) or if he will stare into the camera or at the moderator. Can't imagine him looking President Obama in the eye while lying about his record.
so you think back in 2000 that the democrats were about making bush a two termer? How bout in 96, repubs were on board with Clinton? DNC for Bush senior?
Bush: No Child Left Behind, Sarbanes Oxley, Campaign Reform, PATRIOT Act, Stimulus I, plus bipartisan support (at the time) for the War in Iraq.
Clinton: Welfare Reform, balanced budget - although the Republicans did shut down the government, they learned their lesson and compromised.
Not to mention that most of the time presidential appointments went through without a filibuster, except for a couple of Supreme Court nominees.
You have to have a pretty short memory and a closed mind to ignore the fact that this is the most obstructive and partisan Congress ever, and Republican / Tea Party members that refuse to compromise on ANYTHING are mostly to blame.
CA - the difference is that even though every party wants their candidate to win, 2008 was the first year any party took an oath to make sure a President was only one-term. Then they chose to work against the country's best interest in order to accomplish their goal.
Joe Scarborough was on some show recently and was talking about this. He said when Clinton was elected he told one of Clinton's staff that he hated the man. The staff member said not to worry, Clinton hated him too. Then, according to Joe, they all worked together for the best of the country. BIG difference!
CA - no I know exactly who the divisive group is and it's the Republicans - in Congress and everywhere. This President has worked to be inclusive but the GOP has blocked him at every avenue! Try again and this time, try telling the truth. I know that isn't the Republican way but you'll find it actually makes you feel good!
CA - yes, you prove that for Republicans there is "nothing new under the sun." You guys prefer to stick with your tried and true lies. Pity you don't learn anything!
its lonely up there seeking approval, but it must be comforting to look down at all the 'people'. No SA, its SSDD with you. Everyone except those left of castro are liars and stupid. now go play with the savant from NY.
CA - I don't look down on anyone but those who refuse to even try to educate themselves and tell the truth. When you continue to resort to the lies you post, I don't have any respect for you. Your lack of integrity in your posts says everything about you!
I see when you know you can't argue effectively you try to be condescending. Just a hint - it SO doesn't work!
CA - I don't look down on anyone but those who refuse to even try to educate themselves and tell the truth. When you continue to resort to the lies you post, I don't have any respect for you. Your lack of integrity in your posts says everything about you!
do you say things like this while looking down your nose? I think you do. Sure Seeking why dont you tell that story where CA is afraid of the black man in the white house. you know truthful things like that. Go away snob, you're a partisan through and through.
I see when you know you can't argue effectively you try to be condescending.
is this person for real? condescending? OMG do YOU EVER READ WHAT YOU POST? again go find your savant and play with him.
CA - you do seem to be obsessed with what I say. Why is that, exactly? When you thought you had an argument you didn't take this approach. But, when it was proved you couldn't argue any points successfully, then it became a personal attack. You and thetotas have fun. You deserve each other. You're both comical and predictable! Neither of you can admit you have NO arguments - just your usual nonsense.

Obama/Biden 2012
WOW. Hey maybe Nemisis will find seeking and lure her to a pool of water
You really should go back and read your comments. Personal attacks, that's all you do. You don't debate, you go straight for the juggler, and then call them haters.
thetotas - if you'll check my remarks - most have been delivered with facts. I eventually get tired of people who post the same lies day after day and I then resort to name calling. Now CA - he calls names every day and rarely posts facts. You seem to pop in occasionally and really I can't recall you posting any facts - just opinions.
Now CA - he calls names every day and rarely posts facts.
now who did i call names today, aside from you? In fact I dont think i called you any names. Maybe seeking approval but the shoe fits. You call everyone a liar and stupid. EVERYDAY. nah Thetotas is right but again perhaps Nemisis will show you that pool of water.
I have never been warned by anyone from FR. You of all people to accuse me, that's rich.
Prove it Feisty, show where I was warned by FR and on multiple occasions. Unlike you i have never been suspended, and you would think if I plagiarizing I would have been.
Prove it Feisty, show where I was warned from FR on multiple occasions.
OH MY! How do you know the idiots are losing? They start with idle threats! lol
For starters darling, your NDD has explained it to you ad nauseam! Simmer down baby, I NEVER said it was FR... YOU dingbat!
Do YOU really want to get into a factual pissing match with ME?
But, let's move on from there cupcake, you come here and try to come across as a independent, when in FACT anyone who reads your comment history knows you are nothing more than a right wing nitwit!
Why are YOU so embarrassed to admit it?
The ONLY person around here you are fooling, is YOURSELF!
Yet, you in your delusion seem to think no-one is going to notice! lmao!
Good luck honey, you're going to need it the next 4 years!
Feisty what is an independent? I notice a lot of lefties like to berate anyone with that claim. What is the middle ground for you guys? Obama or nothing?
They start with idle threats! lol
dont get all worked up there you hoo. I saw no one threating you.
Do YOU really want to get into a factual pissing match with ME?
Thats funny. how does AM put it res ipsa loquitur. I'll believe it when i see it
You're making yourself look stupid, but please continue. And what threat, I would not waste my time on you. Please!
NDD cautioned me when I put a quote down with out stating who wrote the quote. Its was Lincoln, so give me a break. You tried to make it sound like FR warned me on several occasions. All you got was a member explaining the rules here.
Bitch slap me, how brave of you, safely tucked away, in your home spewing all of your hate. I guess you need to make up for lost time, but not at my expense.
to form a more perfect union. How do you do that when a significant amount want to be lazy? Im sure next you'll 'each according to their need, each according to their ability' spiel.
There may indeed be a "significant amount" who are lazy, but I guarantee you it is WAY less than 47%.
You don't have to be poor to be lazy. Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton don't exactly work their butts off - and being a "venture capitalist" isn't exactly like digging a ditch.
Those words may have resonated more if it came from someone who worked hard and made their own fortune.
I quote the unofficial motto of the United States of America and you quote the "communist manifesto"?
Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton don't exactly work their butts off - and being a "venture capitalist" isn't exactly like digging a ditch.
both are big piles of refuse but both pay taxes. everyone except maybe the bum on the corner pays a form of taxes and even said bum will when he goes to get his cheap wine after pan handling. I think you are misrperesenting the e pluribus unum motto. sure then you can quote another unofficial one; Nova ordo seclorum. uh oh.
BTW no those words would never resonate well with the opposing side TNS, regardless of who said it.
Caesar: doesn't that actually mean, Out of many, one ? Signifying the joining together of the many states, cultures, regions to form ONE great nation.
The issue with the modern Republican party, as exemplified by Mitt Romney, is that they truly do discount and ignore well over half of the nation. While the Democrats and President Obama have put forth policies and passed laws which help all citizens, the GOP has put forth its budgets and bills which benefit the GOP only. The policy of obstruction and "NO" has not helped the nation. That which does not help the nation, helps destroy it.
Caesar: doesn't that actually mean, Out of many, one ? Signifying the joining together of the many states, cultures, regions to form ONE great nation.
That was my point exactly - we are ONE nation, and our President should represent us all.
To draw a parallel - out of all the people in the country we elect ONE president. Why would we elect someone who fells it is not his job to worry about almost half of Americans?
And before someone replies with the latest "spin" that says Romney was talking about not worrying about "getting their votes", he clearly states
My job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives. - Mitt Romney
yes dirp and although I dont know exactly where the forefathers drew the line with meaning would take it from that what you said is accurate. Thats the only way it would work. here's my point, if TNS wants to link e pluribus unum as the 'populus' where is the stopping of that statement with 'communism'. TNS is always claiming obamas gaffes are taking out of context and the lefty liberals are all about Romney in the literal sense. 'You didn't build that' . Memeber E Pluribus Unum or was it Nova ordo seclorum. TNS doesnt think outside the party, im willing to venture neither does dirp.
Why would we elect someone who fells it is not his job to worry about almost half of Americans?
8+% unemployment. For the Americans TNS, for the people. Lets see where the President lies with his unificiation. I'm thinking Obama divide et impera
It's Obama who needs to learn about e pluribus unum. He excludes anyone who doesn't believe the way he does in redistribution. He constantly plays the race card and class warfare.
Attention everyone, Seeking has again called another poster who doesnt favor Obama a liar. Hey Seeking since you be the bearer of truth, why dont you enlighten everyone with some. Come Knowitall you can do it!
Romney keeps writing op eds which in turn come back to haunt him. The new one about foreign policy will be another in that line; tough talk but no substance; a lot of chest beating, sound and fury signifying nothing. "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt". Mitt Romney should have learned after 5 years of campaigning that sometimes saying nothing is the smart thing to do.
Jody, agreed. It appears that by writing this one, he wants to address foreign policy in the debate. Mr Shoot-First-Aim-Later should definitely NOT go down that road. But when has Mitt ever listened???
The other thing Mitt Romney should have learned after 5 years of campaigning is how to make people actually like you. While the GOP keep stating it's not a big thing, people definitely want to think the President actually cares about them personally!
Layton - I keep remembering the Australian Deputy PM's words about "cranks and crackposts of the Republican party are destroying the economy." Could not say it better!
Seeking - I keep remembering the Australian Deputy PM's words about "cranks and crackposts of the Republican party are destroying the economy." Could not say it better!
sirie - actually, yes the Australian Deputy PM DOES have a college education. He studied at the University of Queensland and later became a lecturerr in the Department of Management at the Queensland Institute of Technology. Funny, I got that from Wikipedia - why couldn't you find it? See below.
Well, to be honest Wayne Swan is a liberal, and it gets my goat when any outsider starts telling the US of A what is wrong with it, so hence my post. I put the link in to see if anyone bothers to follow links posted, as I almost always do... just to see if anyone caught it..
however, you didn't use my link, and now you have me wondering why...
Jody, agreed. It appears that by writing this one, he wants to address foreign policy in the debate. Mr Shoot-First-Aim-Later should definitely NOT go down that road.
You betcha' he should leave foreign policy out of this debate on domestic policy.
He will only have to flip-flop when the debate is about foreign policy!
On second thought.....let Willard be Willard and go there!
sirie - it was easy to google and I wanted to see all posts about him - not just one. Unfortunately his slant is held by many in other countries who see the GOP as fanatics who don't really care about the country - just winning.
What is unique about the is, he is the first candidate whose unfavorable ratings are higher than his favorable ratings. And so even...
JUDY WOODRUFF: First candidate ever or just in a long time?
DAVID BROOKS: Since we have started polling this sort of thing.
MARK SHIELDS: That's right.
DAVID BROOKS: So, Al Gore had a plus-22 rating even in a losing campaign. John McCain, I think it was about plus-16.
And Mitt Romney, according to the Pew I saw today, was minus-five. And so that is -- that is a problem. Nonetheless, Mitt Romney -- Barack Obama is no walk in the park either.
David Brooks gets up my nose. He's always like "it's true Republican policies have lead to (insert fiasco), however, I talk to real Americans all the time, at lunch counters, traffic lights and the post office, and real Americans tell me they will never support Democratic policies or leaders, no matter how intelligent, pragmatic, scientific, or reasonable. That's the wisdom of real Americans!"
I have to admit that I enjoyed the part where they were trying to explain President Obama's Swing State polling being higher than his national polling.
One explanation was that as Mitt Romney campaigns in the Swing States people get to know him better, and the more they get to know him the less they like him!
Dangerfield, Sorry but I've been watching and reading David Brooks for a long time, and I've given up on him ever admitting a Democratic leader or policy is more effective than the Republican choice. He walks right up to it, sometimes, but he just can't bring himself to betray his Party.
Speaking as someone who has worked a variety of lower skill jobs, like clerking at a grocery store or working at a daycare, I also find David Brooks utterly condescending when he purports to know what the "working-man" thinks. Basically, he bugs me.
when he purports to know what the "working-man" thinks
how many of these lower skill jobs (your words) has Obama worked again? He so eloquently said he understoodd the working man ergo must be so? Sheesh and you guys hate christians for their fervor for christ. Tell me whats the difference in the Obama cult?
CA - No one I know hates Christians - many of us are Christians. Personally, I don't care for organized religion because of it's hypocrisy.
A person doesn't have to clean streets to appreciate the work done by those who do this job. If that were the case, very few Presidents could relate in any way to people who work in lower level jobs. That doesn't mean that President Obama doesn't know or understand their trials and their goals. And, he would certainly have a better grasp of it than Mitt could ever have.
The Obama Cult? Please - you're totally absurd at times!
David Brooks is a moderate conservative. He often agrees with moderate Democrats and Democratic policies. I generally don't enjoy these silly P...ing contests, but your misrepresentation of Brooks and his writings begged a reply, and EXAMPLES.
You dear, are not a moderate. Your position, based on my reading you, is far from the center.
Emanuel's willingness to hang tough and accept a strike was itself a hopeful sign that some Democrats are hardy enough to take on interests aligned with their own party. Emanuel certainly didn't get everything he wanted. The unions won concessions, too. But if the final results resemble what I've been hearing in any way, then Chicago will move toward the forefront of the reform movement. That result would also be a national credibility booster for Emanuel's party. It would be a sign that Democrats may be able to successfully reform ailing public institutions, so that the nation as a whole can prosper.
Over all, though, the record is impressive. Obama has moved more aggressively both to defeat enemies and to champion democracy. He has demonstrated that talk of American decline is hooey. The U.S. is still responsible for maintaining global order, for keeping people, goods and ideas moving freely.
If something works Brooks says it works, and if someone's doing something right, he gives them credit, regardless of ideology or party affiliation. Your contention is demonstrably wrong. Here is a link to Mr. Brooks' columns, maybe you or others would enjoy looking through them...
I would not presume to match you in a p------ contest, on the basis girls don't play that sort of game!
I don't like David Brooks, I think he's dishonest and condescending, that's my personal opinion. I've read and listened to him quite a bit and often find myself yelling back at him way too often.
I really don't like many political pundits. Gail Collins is perhaps my favorite.
What is a moderate anymore? The first presidential candidate I voted for was Gerald Ford. I even voted for Olympia Snowe a time or two, although not since she urged Mainers to support Bush's re-election. I support Independent candidate Angus King for Senate over Democrat Cynthia Dill, even though I favor Dill's positions, I am still one of those voters who will vote for character over ideology. I've seen King speak in person, his views are more conservative than mine, but he is a rational and civil politician and more than qualified for the Senate. I am hoping King can influence the Congress towards compromise and pragmatism.
how many of these lower skill jobs (your words) has Obama worked again? He so eloquently said he understoodd the working man ergo must be so? Sheesh and you guys hate christians for their fervor for christ. Tell me whats the difference in the Obama cult?
Do you know how little a community organizer makes? If anyone is aware of the trials and tribulations of the least among us it would be Obama not some rich guy who has never had to deal with poor people except, perhaps as servants. Obama gave up positions in prestigeous law firms to teach and to organize because he cares unlike his opponent who simply can't relate to the poor or middle class.
Do you know how little a community organizer makes
so that is a lower skill job?
Obama gave up positions in prestigeous law firms to teach and to organize because he cares unlike his opponent who simply can't relate to the poor or middle class.
Back to another week of getting your ass handed to you I see...
there's the FR catamite LOL. Hey Mickey hows it going. by what measure again?
So, Ryan/Romney...I donlt see you sticking up for their policies...why is that taxman?
considering there is nothing they can currently do with 'their' policies, I'll leave them be. But lets talk Obama's. You know you want to right?
they stand for "you and yours", right?
over Obama sure but Mickey really why do you keep chasing your tail my friend. you ridicule white collar, no joe, I, spanky et al and yet you do nothing any different. You come across with some pseudo tough guy act but thats all it is.
Mickey tell me why your comrades believe Obama is a champion of the people, can walk on water and save the world like Captain America yet the evidence is to the contrary. Maybe I'm just dumb Hick. How bout you explain it with that extensive knowledge, experience and education you have.
Mickey, just be glad that I do give you the attention your mother and father did not. I'm here for you.
Final note hey I asked about those NY style pizzas, how are they. are they good, this is serious man. I do like pizza. Not sure about Caesar though considering it wasn't a staple of latins or romans at that time.
Poor Little Seizure...can't seem to get a grasp on things. But hey...you enjoy being one of the "99%", yet you don't realize that you are part of the "99%", right Pizza Boy?
So tell me, Chris...are you one of Ryan/Romney's $250,000 "middle class" minions who just enjoys hanging around a thread with nothing more than what amounts to be daily talking points?
You get your rocks of denigrating anyone with an apposing opinion, yet offer none of your own. Why is that, Chris? I'll tell you why since you won't answer that one: Because you could care less...you have no viable opinion...and when you think you have one, well guess what...it's always wrong. They are only based upon fallacies fabrications, and out and out lies.
You couldn't think for yourself if someone paid you. You need to be told what to say...told what to do.
So, are you self employed, or do you just enjoy ripping off your employer...seems time means nothing to you, as long as you're not the one paying for it, right "caesar"?
...you enjoy being one of the "99%", yet you don't realize that you are part of the "99%", right Pizza Boy?
sure mickey if you attach percentages like that. there is always a 99% and a 1% but how arbitrary and well full of caca to create some class envy.
are you one of Ryan/Romney's $250,000 "middle class" minions
funny you brought that up. See watching HLN over the weekend the desk jockeys bullet pointed what Romney would do and how it would increase the debt 200bil. All they said was Obama wanted to tax the rich (yes rich), those making 250k a year. Silly isnt it that both canidates are out of touch. Well Hope and Change.
Who's Chris. my name aint chris there guy. if you are claiming I am another poster sorry to disappoint and you will be. Remember you're the tattle tell here, perhaps you can let sally and tyler know.
You get your rocks of denigrating anyone with an apposing opinion, yet offer none of your own
that made no sense what so ever. I have no opinion? So you agree I am all facts LOL.. I accept your opinion whether I like it or not. Prove it other wise or hush up. I dont agree we know that but I accpet your opinion even if it is wrong
You couldn't think for yourself if someone paid you. You need to be told what to say...told what to do.
Ah good Mickey so whats the difference between you and I again? a pull of the lever at the voting booth.
You're all talk, no action and come across with this tough guy thing. Well enjoy your water walker even though he sinks like the rest of us.
I'm here for you. Together we'll break the fear of abandonment issues you have
I seem to have struck a nerve there, Chris...oh well...you can just go back to having me on ignore, as I will continue to point out your inadequacies, and you can continue to be irrelevant.
My Little Pizza Boy...no substance, only fluff.
Sad...just oh, so sad.
[You reckon that CA works for Karl Rove?]
Nahh...Karl wouldn't put up with being ripped off.
sirie - again with the "teleprompter" stupidity? All of the Presidents in modern time have used teleprompters. Plus, Romney uses one at this "major" events!
In Romney's defense I don't think his "47%" remarks were on a teleprompter, and he delivered those lines with authority and conviction:
There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax.
My job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.
I wonder how many times Obama will blame Bush during the first debate..
It runs both ways, Romney blames President Obama for everything - from Gas Prices to the Deficit to Unemployment. Romney acts like the economy was doing fine until Obama got elected, and refuses to admit things are getting better (albeit slowly).
Maybe more people would trust Romney if he admitted Republican policies were at least partially at fault for the current economic situation. Maybe even more would trust him if he could explain how his policies differ from GW Bush's.
Paul Ryan should also admit that he voted YES on all of the major legislation that created the Deficit.
Please Mitt, take Newts advice and yell at the moderator. Just like your other debates, I bet you get a big round of applause with the "self deport" line.
He probably will and they'll all be stragegically placed right where the cameras are sure to see them. Perhaps he can have another rally and have more miners brought in against their will.
I expect a giant tap dance fest. What passes for debates now days is not anything like a real debate. If you have a drinking contest regarding how many times a question is not answered, you will have the EMS at your house in no time.
You probably won't get facts from Romney and you surely won't get any specifics.
He has spent his entire campaign avoiding specifics and since he can't get specific about his budget, economic plan, jobs plan, foreign policy, his own taxes, loopholes he'd close or anything else, all he has left is to attack Obama.
That does two things: One, it shows that Romney has no plan and highlights the inept way he has run his campaign. Two, it highlights the contrast between the mature, presidential Obama and the not-ready-for-prime-time Mitt.
Dragon....You're really asking for a lot if you want facts and specifics from Romney. I've been waiting for the same since the Spring.
Romney will choose once again to do and say nothing of what he actually needs to do. He doesn't need to worry about the President. He just needs to make his case. Trust me, it won't happen. He'll be too busy chasing everything the President says. All we'll get are more of what his policies will do but nothing about what his policies are.
I hope Obama and his team have taken note that the GOP has started to lay the ground work for the messaging to come out of the debate - namely Chris Cristie's comment "to stop lying." I heard it numerous times this weekend from other "operatives." This is not coincidence. It worked very well against Al Gore in the first Bush-Gore debate. It's also a way to attack someone who is otherwise likable, because no one likes a liar. AND, it lays the ground work for attacking Obama's statements on foreign policy matters - the Libya cover up? I hope he's prepared because the "fact checkers" will come from all sides.
That whole "Obama lies" message bugs the hell out of me. When will Republicans grow up? They sound like fifth graders fighting on the playground. President Obama can't just wave a wand and make everything right after a global economic collapse, two wars and a decade of unaffordable tax cuts.
Amy, he could shoot laser beams out of his eyes that only targeted Al Quaida, he could cure cancer with some marvelous factor contained in his blood, he could bring about world peace (which would really piss off the defense contractors) and end poverty, and not only would the repblicans not give him credit, they'd blame him for not doing it sooner.
Allow him some time to fix what BushCo policies, unbridled corporate greed and voodoo economics created? Ha!!
(he must be hiding that wand somewhere...perhaps if they filibuster some more, he'll wave it)
Taking back the House won't be easy, by any stretch, but it should be a goal. We'll need a true 60 seats in the senate, too. No Blue Dogs, no Lieberman.
The only way the Jobs Act will come up for a vote is with a majority. The only way to ease the judicial emergency in this country is with a majority. It's too bad that a filibuster-proof majority is needed, but if we're going to get help to veterans, put people back to work, stop the war on women, then we need to take back the House and make gains in the Senate.
Da Noid - It appears that you didn't even read the fact check I posted. If you did you would see that the BS Obama, Clinton and the rest of you left wing nuts are ranting about is just that BS when blaming Bush for all the current financial problems. But then Obama does nothing but play the blame game and whine and cry.
Da Noid - I read your comment, and and it's a typical left wing post, no substance or facts just more deflections. So answer this: Do you agree with the fact checkers or not, and if not why not?
As far as your question of having fact checkers at the debate, it is really a stupid question. The buzzer would be going off after every question. GET REAL
I found it very interesting that your "fact checker" starts out by asking if tax cuts and deregulation contributed to the *economic crisis*, then determines that tax cuts and deregulation had little to with the *financial crisis*.
SailorGirl - First he is not my fact checker, I believe he works for the Washington Post. He is the same fact checker that those on the left have used on numerous occasions (when it suits them). To do a fact check you need to start with a question, ie, did tax cuts and deregulation contribute to the economic crisis, then you give your answers and why. BTW, I found the last paragraph very interesting.
Why is it that under the Obama administration, food stamps for illegals has more than doubled? Why is it that free phones under the Obamaphones programs has more than doubled? The give me, I'm entitled crowd keeps growing and it doesn't matter if you are a U. S. citizen or not.
JERSY GIRL - Stay off FOX. Post your source for the food stamps for illegals. Also, you were told this last week but choose to ignore it. The cell phone program has been in opertion since before President Obama was in office. It is NOT his program. It is run by the FCC and actually started in 1996 with land line phones. There was a recognition that poor people need phones for emergencies. Now go ahead in a few days and AGAIN post what you know is a lie. It's all you have.
Because in 2008 a recession hit and a record number of people needed assistance. I guess you think President Obama would prefer everyone be on entitlements? These programs are no more easy to get on under Obama than Bush.
JERSY GIRL - yes I do think Obama would like everyone dependent on the Government. You of course know that makes no sense, right? NO ONE wants a lot of people dependent on the Government. What would be the point?
Hi Seeking, are you one that it's getting all that Obama free stuff?
Sorry, but Jersey Girl is 100% percent correct.
Free stuff for all that want to beat the system. Every time I hear that video, it turns my stomach that this President has created the notion that the Government controls all.
Bali - oh no. You're trying to reason with Concern? It's a hopeless case. Most of us have her on ignore. She gets more ridiculous with each passing day!
Beat the system... you mean like the veterans who gave up a comfortable life to fight in Bush's two wars...those freeloaders? or could it be the freeloaders who worked for 40 years and paid into Social Security and taxes so that they can retire with dignity and not depend on others? Those freeloaders....Or do you mean those whose jobs were shipped off shore by vulture capitalists so the venture capitalists can rake in big bucks after depriving them of their life savings in IRA or 401K accounts? Maybe you are referring to those who have tons of money and think they deserve more with special treatment for off shore accounts, no tax on shipping businesses off shore or those rewarded for screwing the environment, greedy lending practices or who believe deficits don't matter until the other side is in the big chair? Which is it? All of these or only select ones? Perhaps you believe in handouts to those who need it the least and let those who need a safety net the most fend for themselves or just die so the money doesn't have to be shared let alone wasted on the riff raff of this world.
Bali Bo, SeekingSanity and Adler - I did not say any such thing and you both are doing what you do best, Lie and make it up as you go. Typical Liberal low life. .
I did not mention those that fight to give you the freedom that we all enjoy. It is quite obvious that this are not of the people that beat the system.
I did not mentioned anything about those that find the loop holes to pay less taxes. That is why Romney will take out most of those loops once he gets elected.
But it is people like you that are all day and night on this site and probably use that Free Cell that Obama got you.
You two are not worth an once of what those man and woman fight for. Have a good one, and yes you got me on IGNORE which is more lies.
Bali - I couldn't believe Anne Romney made the comment she did. Between she and Mitt the Democrats won't have to do much. Who in their right mind says they're worried about the strain the campaigning is having on their husband's mental state? My bad - the operative words - in their right mind. Never mind!
Obama/Biden 2012 to reduce the strain on Mitt's brain!
Bali Bob - I think if he had some serious problem or meltdown they absolutely could. But, it would really be an effort in futility since the person would really have no time to get their ideas across to anyone. I've wondered about that lately too.
Mitt seems to be imploding at a fast pace. I don't know if they can ditch him or not. I'm sure it's spelled out somewhere in the party platforml. My guess is he would have to be incapacitated or do something morally wrong. But, just a guess.
More musings: it seems to me that President Obama has become the Democrats' Ronald Reagan and Mitt Romney is becoming the Republicans' Michael Dukakis.
Caveat: Reckon Bill Clinton has become the Democrats' Ronald Reagan. Remains to be seen what place Obama will take in the pantheon... but I'll bet that whatever happens, he will continue to be a player on the World stage.
How come former Republican Presidents don't do that?
I can't wait to see Romney explain how he can lower a millionaire's top marginal rate by 10% and that millionaire will actually pay more in income tax by the magical elimination of certain deductions. That should be quite a rabbit pulled out of a hat. Because Romney couldn't get diminished charitable deductions passed by anyone and could not get the mortgage deduction eliminated either. So, it is just more bobble headed silly talk on the part of the weather vane. Surprise, surprise, the wealthy would pay drastically LESS! Just as the CBO scores it - with another yawning deficit - courtesy of the GOP.
The questions asked should be tough ones. I think the most embarrassing statements by each of the candidates need to be addressed by them in these debates.
1) Tell me why do you far right Taliban Christians think you are entitled to get into my bedroom?
2) Tell why to you far right Taliban Christians think every Muslin is out to get you?
3) Tell me why you far right Taliban Christians think you are entitled to say what is a marriage?
4) Tell me why does the far right Taliban Christians think you are entitled to say whether my wife or daughters get a vaginal probe?
5) Tell me why the far right Taliban Christians hasn’t explain exactly what is a legitimate rape?
6) Tell me why the far right Taliban Christians seem entitled to ship our jobs overseas and then it says it sucks to be you fend for yourself?
7) Tell me why the far right Taliban Christians thinks they are entitled to put the elderly, disabled, and Military Vets out on the street to fend for themselves?
8) Tell me why Mitt Romney and family can avoid serving in our military yet be more than willing to send other off to die for this country?
9) Tell me why Mitt Romney can invest his money in a Chinese company that is doing business with Iran?
The MSM excitement is to write a narrative of a possible Myth Romney comeback. I don't see how MYTH can do it.
Myth Romney has a 47% problem and being a gazillionaire ain't one. Queen Anne has implies it's his mental state.
devie - you're right, a lot of people will not watch the debates.
Obama/Biden 2012
My expectations are simple. I expect Romney to lose.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
Ron Indiana
so do Paul Ryan and Beth Myers, Senior Adviser for Romney.
how nice of her to say nice things, isn't it?
except for the fact that Romney's been running for some kind of office for like 20 years now
and reversing his positions and debating with himself for most of that time....
Thats the debate I want to see, a split-screen image of Romney defending his position on both sides of almost every issue.
What did John Kerry say - that before Romney debates President Obama he should finish his debate with himself? Priceless.
Paul Ryan - The Deficit? I Built That!
And he still can't get it right. You'd think the GOPTP would have figured that out during the primaries. Santorum is right, the party ain't to bright.
RedDevPS
Give the man a break. Could you remember if you were for something or against it if you flipped as much as Romney?
Not easy!
TNSEVOL
he should be an expert at debating by now
yes, I know, I am contradicting myself in the 2 answers above. I'm plying Romney;)
I expect Romney to look extremely presidential and Obama to look very condescending
I further expect the usual suspects in here to roll out their sarcasm...it is all the have
but, but, how will Willard 'look' Presidential with the tape/audio has him saying..."My job is not to worry about those people", the 47% who pay no taxes and expect the gov to provide healthcare, food, housing.
The Look!
It's all in the eyes.
old fat guy - so you think Romney will be transformed during the debates? Because we all know he hasn't looked at ALL Presidential so far. He's looked lost and confused - everytime he is anywhere.
Republican leadership has been distancing themselves from him because he is constantly looking the fool.
Anna Molly - you don't think that "deer in the headlight" thing will work for Romney? Neither do I!!!
Obama/Biden 2012
Old fat guy
You are correct sir. Romney will speak truth. The other will not. Press will Declare Obama the winner and America will lose again.
rukidding -
By "Press" do you mean Fox News, the Wall Street Journal, and Conservative talk radio - you know, the Main Stream Media - will declare President Obama the winner?
Doubtful, they don't normally report the truth......
America will lose (again) if we go back to the failed policies of the Bush administration.
Seeking..
Romney looking pretty good on his Libyan statement right now compared to the denial of Obama
When the media is complicit in telling lies involving national security the American people lose, all Americans including you
It's the MATH stupid!
Obama/Biden 2012
Why is the photo showing Mitt in an empty plane? Could the other folks have taken a different flight? One that offers windows that roll down? Shoot- I would.
Also- may I assume the debaters are not allowed to show slides or flipchart pages showing things like, say, the 'bikini graph' when trying to illustrate their point? And if so, why not? Too easy to shoot down 'talking points only' content?
rukidding --
And we should take your opinion seriously why?
In what way? If the attack was pre-planned, then neither the video NOR the so-called apology had a hill of beans to do with it.
In essence, Romney was speaking to nothing. And, in addition, he was most certainly speaking without the benefit of any true facts.
Neither better nor worse than the President, but certainly inappropriate for someone who only WANTS to be President to be inserting himself into.
As for whether more security would have made any difference, you should probably read this --
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/16/world/middleeast/us-ambassador-to-libya-knew-the-ways-of-the-arab-street.html?ref=jchristopherstevens
rukidding47, you said: Romney will speak truth.
He is one of the few unbiased TV journalists that are still around.
rukidding47
why start now?
Another interesting article about Christ Stevens and the attack on the American consulate --
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/29/us/politics/shifting-reports-on-libya-killings-may-cost-obama.html?ref=
And why would he not do that? Because his goal was to tear down walls, not to hide behind them.
To which there is only one reasonable response --
Why is this relevant?
Obama/Biden 2012
Obama/Biden2012
nomore, it may surprise you, but most Tea Party people are not Republicans, but actually Independents. Maybe you need to get out more and stop reading all the MSN baloney.
JERSY GIRL,

Mitt goes on to say regarding the 47%
... I'll never convince them that they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.
Beacause we know the seniors on SS have not taken personal responsibility... right?
Or the working poor who do not take personal responsibility...right?

Chef Darrell
the WH is downplaying the debates by saying the President is busy being president and not having time to practice.
The Romney camp is downplaying the debates by saying THE OTHER GUY IS EXCELLENT.
see the difference?
I am talking about actual Tea Party members. Republicans in office are not Tea Party members.
You are right as usual.
Notice Jersy Girl1 is having the same truth problem? (as Dennis pointed out)
When she says most Tea Party people are not Republicans, but actually Independents. I had to laugh.
sreeeeminglib - Independents would NEVER claim the Tea Partiers!
Obama/Biden 2012
sfcret - actually, the 47% Romney cited includes veterans; seniors who get SS, the diabled and poor. He didn't do his homework - as usual and lumped these people all together in his degrading comments.
Obama/Biden 2012
Obama/Biden 2012

If there was only one man in my life who spoke Latin, it had to be you.
Sigh.
But shouldn't that be "caviar" or something?
now who's the dreamer HAHAHA. but it should be suffragatte. that would be the plural
caviar is fish eggs
vote at your own risk?
Says the man who quotes bumper sticker Latin and STILL gets it wrong.
yeah lots of that running around nowadays
Well, I never.
I'll have you know that what I don't get from the inside of a Cracker Jack box, I get the old fashioned way -- Google Translate.
So there.
i was probably wrong on the plural though.
Really?
That's SO hard to imagine.
ok AM, I understand with that JD you get habeus corpus, all whist mocking corpus Christi. I never said i was fluent in a language that is nearly only practiced by Catholics (not so much anymore) and Law.
Res ipsa loquitur.
But don't despair. Practice always makes perfect.
Habeus corpus usually works for me. Especially on Saturday nights.
And just so we're clear, I don't mock corpus Christi. That's the only part of the Bible I don't mock.
But I do say "Oh, Yahweh," from time to time.
You tu are funny!
maybe you need to get a room! ;- )
show me res ipsa and maybe we can loquit. you start that pro bono stuff yet, you know fair share? nihil est simul et inventum et perfectum.
ad absurdum
we can do this all day really. ad hominem, ad infinitum, ad nauseum. Remember, AM ad porta. ahhh run
You must be the exception that proves the rule.
Seriously.
Ah, the Deus ex machina has arrived on the scene.
Exit, stage left. Save yourself, think nothing of the women and children.
I always thought Corpus Christi was a city in Texas.
Can you tell Caesar Augustus to zip it in latin? Thanks in advance
AM - how about amor vincent omnia ?
I know, maybe a little too optimistic for this board.
Loved Vincent Omnia in MEN IN BLACK.
Keep it zipped, Tax Man.
At least, that's what my Translator told me to say.
oh come on now. Everyone loves black sabbath. or Robert Downey jr.
sure AM now back to lis alibi pendens. Vale
Ana Molly - I thought it was caveat - who knows? Actually caviar sounds so much better!
yucko!
fish eggs? i guess it is one of those things you have to acquire a taste for...
sirie - I had to try it a few times to develop a taste for it. Now, I really enjoy it!
"fish eggs? i guess it is one of those things you have to acquire a taste for..."
Would you eat them in an automobile-elevator car? Would you eat them, either here or afar?
Some people think that Roe v. Wade is about fishing.
Veni, Vidi, Vici. My sister took four years of Latin. I love caviar.
Well from listening to Chris Christie on all of the shows Sunday morning, we're going to wake up to a brand new campaign Thursday morning!
Obama/Biden 2012

I love these brand new Romneys! Always so exciting when a new one rolls out!
Amy - but isn't it amazing the "new Romney's" are no better than the old? No improvement, just a slightly different slant, or should I say teeter? Sad - usually when you have the new version, it's an improvement!
Obama/Biden 2012
Maybe it is because Romney grew up around the auto industry (thus making his "let Detroit go bankrupt" even worse)---he thinks there should be a new model every year.
Even Ford had enough sense to kill the Edsel line after 3 miserable years of lower than expected sales.
Sounds like an apt description of how much the GOPTP party love their candidate, Romney. Of course there is also this Edsel gem that concisely describes Romney's lack of appeal. Seems corporate America's candidate just doesn't live up to average American presidential expectations.
Well, GM going broke is basically what did happen. If you bail out one industry, why not bail out all industries?
I hear that between 1948 and 2008, we had a TOTAL of 39 months of unemployment over 8%. In the last 3 1/2 + years, we had 43. What does that tell you?
That Obama is a neophyte. Would Romney correct the nations problems? On his own no. by working WITH congress (democrats AND republicans), we will start to see CHANGE. If not, we'll just get more Obama FKA Commodus.
Unfortunately the hard left posters that occupy FR believe Obama can save everything by his lonesome. Hence the label of cultists.
They've gotta be on their twelevth Etch-A-Sketch by now... one of those can only take so much shaking.
Sirie-
I tells me that GW Bush and trickle-down economics royally screwed the middle class and destroyed the American economy.
Caesar -
So would you expect that the Republicans would totally change course and compromise, or that the Democrats would just accept the Republican agenda? Republicans in Congress have REFUSED to compromise. Why would they start for Romney?
TNS I would demand and I do demand some adulthood in our legislative and executive branches. I would expect Repubs to compromise with Democrats.
so have democrats, acting like spoiled children, We won. We control. Back seat etc.
Caesar-
Not so much. The "back seat" quote was another Obama line taken out of context by the Republicans.
Democrats attempted to compromise on the stimulus, the ACA and many other things during President Obama's first two years. All rebuffed.
Remember the "grand compromise"? The "number one priority is to make Obama a one-term president"? The Republican leaders meeting the night of the inauguration?
Pretty one-sided.
so you think back in 2000 that the democrats were about making bush a two termer? How bout in 96, repubs were on board with Clinton? DNC for Bush senior?
back door dealings are now considered compromise? I believe the senate and HOR have a forum for debate.
and you're not thinking fourth dimensionally
Amy
I love these brand new Romneys! Always so exciting when a new one rolls out!
Kind of like the Barbie Doll "Ken" rolling off a conveyor belt! He does sort of look like an ageing Ken doll. Or possibly a Stepford Husband!
Obama/Biden 2012
Paul---I wonder if Mitt will turn in precise 1/3 turns to face the audience like he does in public speaking (watch him--it is almost hypnotic) or if he will stare into the camera or at the moderator. Can't imagine him looking President Obama in the eye while lying about his record.
Obama/Biden 2012
we have the most Divisive president in recent history. You seem to forget that.
Obama/Biden 2012
*yawn*
nihil novi sub sole
CA - yes, you prove that for Republicans there is "nothing new under the sun." You guys prefer to stick with your tried and true lies. Pity you don't learn anything!
Obama/Biden 2012
its lonely up there seeking approval, but it must be comforting to look down at all the 'people'.
Obama/Biden 2012
My parents had a 1959 Edsel. The Edsel was a great car. It was just ahead of its time.
SeekingSanity
do you say things like this while looking down your nose? I think you do. Sure Seeking why dont you tell that story where CA is afraid of the black man in the white house. you know truthful things like that. Go away snob, you're a partisan through and through.
is this person for real? condescending? OMG do YOU EVER READ WHAT YOU POST? again go find your savant and play with him.
SS,
I don't look down on anyone but those who refuse to even try to educate themselves and tell the truth
So you do look down on people, those that disagree with you. Do you know the difference between a lie and perception?
no way can the answer be yes from seeking.
read what seeking posts, dont need seeking to answer.
SeekingSanity
WOW. Hey maybe Nemisis will find seeking and lure her to a pool of water
SS,
You really should go back and read your comments.
Obama/Biden 2012
LMAO
now who did i call names today, aside from you? In fact I dont think i called you any names. Maybe seeking approval but the shoe fits. You call everyone a liar and stupid. EVERYDAY. nah Thetotas is right but again perhaps Nemisis will show you that pool of water.
SS,
Go back and check my history. I have corrected you and use fact check as a source. I would, but its not that important to me to prove my point.
I did! And all I found was a history of you plagiarizing... even though you have been warned multiple times about it!
People like thetotas just don't seem to ever learn...
Sad!
Feisty,
I have never been warned by anyone from FR. You of all people to accuse me, that's rich.
Prove it Feisty, show where I was warned by FR and on multiple occasions. Unlike you i have never been suspended, and you would think if I plagiarizing I would have been.
Prove it, or STFU!
Obama or nothing?
dont get all worked up there you hoo. I saw no one threating you.
Liar!
Sweetheart - you continue to spin like an out of control top - and, I will continue to bitch slap you!
In the meantime, stick to what YOU do best, like a spider laying in it's web... until a hornet comes across and eats you stupid ass!
Bitch slap me, how brave of you, safely tucked away, in your home spewing all of your hate. I guess you need to make up for lost time, but not at my expense.
You got nothing, and everyone sees it.
Liar!
Actually, it would be Caveat Suffragator. No matter...kudos for the effort...point well taken.
Caveat Suffragator is voter beware (not beware of the voter id est cavete a suffragatte, beware of the voters)
I think it still applies, don't you?
i accept your apology. and yes one could say the same of voter beware
How would you translate "It's not my job to worry about those people" into Latin?
Touche' TNSEVOL.
Is est non meus officium ut fatigo super illud populus.
How about ex nihilo nihil fit - isnt that kinda like "you didn't build that"?
I think Romney needs to learn what e pluribus unum means.
A hint, it doesn't mean half the nation doesn't matter.
to form a more perfect union. How do you do that when a significant amount want to be lazy? Im sure next you'll 'each according to their need, each according to their ability' spiel.
Caesar -
There may indeed be a "significant amount" who are lazy, but I guarantee you it is WAY less than 47%.
You don't have to be poor to be lazy. Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton don't exactly work their butts off - and being a "venture capitalist" isn't exactly like digging a ditch.
Those words may have resonated more if it came from someone who worked hard and made their own fortune.
I quote the unofficial motto of the United States of America and you quote the "communist manifesto"?
both are big piles of refuse but both pay taxes. everyone except maybe the bum on the corner pays a form of taxes and even said bum will when he goes to get his cheap wine after pan handling.
That which does not help the nation, helps destroy it.
e pluribus unum
JERSY GIRL - you just post lies and you're very transparent. It must be embarrassing to post knowing you're not telling the truth!
Obama/Biden 2012
Attention everyone, Seeking has again called another poster who doesnt favor Obama a liar. Hey Seeking since you be the bearer of truth, why dont you enlighten everyone with some. Come Knowitall you can do it!
SeekingSanity
SeekingSanity, how many times do you post the same sentence about somebody posting lies.
Jersey Girl, keep posting the truth, I and others in this country see how this President divides the country. He is the leader of the war on us.
Obama/Biden 2012
Layton - I keep remembering the Australian Deputy PM's words about "cranks and crackposts of the Republican party are destroying the economy." Could not say it better!
Obama/Biden 2012
The words smart and Romney should never be in the same sentence.
Seeking - I keep remembering the Australian Deputy PM's words about "cranks and crackposts of the Republican party are destroying the economy." Could not say it better!
Does that guy even have a college education?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayne_Swan
sirie - actually, yes the Australian Deputy PM DOES have a college education. He studied at the University of Queensland and later became a lecturerr in the Department of Management at the Queensland Institute of Technology. Funny, I got that from Wikipedia - why couldn't you find it? See below.
Swan was born and educated in Nambour, Queensland. He attended Nambour State High School, graduating in 1972.[3] Kevin Rudd attended the same school at the same time, although the two did not know each other. Swan won a Commonwealth scholarship to study public administration[4] at the University of Queensland, becoming a lecturer in the Department of Management at the Queensland Institute of Technology (now the Queensland University of Technology) before entering politics.[5
Obama/Biden 2012
Yes, I did see it, just wondered if anyone would bother following the link, you WIN the daily prize!
I didn't follow the link - just looked it up all on my own? So, why would you even bother to post such a question?
Well, to be honest Wayne Swan is a liberal, and it gets my goat when any outsider starts telling the US of A what is wrong with it, so hence my post. I put the link in to see if anyone bothers to follow links posted, as I almost always do... just to see if anyone caught it..
however, you didn't use my link, and now you have me wondering why...
Obama/Biden 2012
If Obama had a better foreign policy, maybe Chris Stevens and three others would still be alive.
JERSY GIRL - you're totally disgusting. If Bush reacted to CIA briefings better maybe all from 9/11/2001 would still be alive!
Obama/Biden 2012
This is what intelligent, informed, and civil debate sounds like...
http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/politics/july-dec12/shieldsbrooks_09-28.html
------------------------------------------------------
DAVID BROOKS: I do agree with that.
Amy-
I don't think the David Brooks I read is the one who is up your nose, maybe you're reading Hubie, Albert, or maybe it's Mel...
oh, and...Gesundheit!
Dangerfield -
I have to admit that I enjoyed the part where they were trying to explain President Obama's Swing State polling being higher than his national polling.
One explanation was that as Mitt Romney campaigns in the Swing States people get to know him better, and the more they get to know him the less they like him!
People weren't crazy about Mitt BEFORE they heard his comments about the 47%. That sealed his fate, I think.
I think she is emulating her hero and blowing blow up her nose. :-)
Basically, he bugs me.
how many of these lower skill jobs (your words) has Obama worked again?
Obama/Biden 2012
and then
Im sure you have something TRUTHFUL to back up that claim. if not youre a LIAR
you're absurd all of the time
David Brooks is a moderate conservative.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/14/opinion/brooks-apres-rahm-le-deluge.html?ref=davidbrooks
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/20/opinion/brooks-where-obama-shines.html?ref=davidbrooks
Over all, though, the record is impressive. Obama has moved more aggressively both to defeat enemies and to champion democracy. He has demonstrated that talk of American decline is hooey. The U.S. is still responsible for maintaining global order, for keeping people, goods and ideas moving freely.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If something works Brooks says it works, and if someone's doing something right, he gives them credit, regardless of ideology or party affiliation. Your contention is demonstrably wrong. Here is a link to Mr. Brooks' columns, maybe you or others would enjoy looking through them...
http://topics.nytimes.com/top/opinion/editorialsandoped/oped/columnists/davidbrooks/index.html
thank you dangerfield. for the record I enjoy reading what you put out. You do what I can't.
Dangerfield,
I would not presume to match you in a p------ contest, on the basis girls don't play that sort of game!
Do you know how little a community organizer makes? If anyone is aware of the trials and tribulations of the least among us it would be Obama not some rich guy who has never had to deal with poor people except, perhaps as servants. Obama gave up positions in prestigeous law firms to teach and to organize because he cares unlike his opponent who simply can't relate to the poor or middle class.
so that is a lower skill job?
did you type that without LOL? surely you didnt
Aww look...poor Seizure slumming half way down the page...must be bored at work huh?
Back to another week of getting your ass handed to you I see...
So, Ryan/Romney...I donlt see you sticking up for their policies...why is that taxman? After all...they stand for "you and yours", right?
Sure they do...
PZZA! PIZZA!
there's the FR catamite LOL. Hey Mickey hows it going. by what measure again?
considering there is nothing they can currently do with 'their' policies, I'll leave them be. But lets talk Obama's. You know you want to right?
over Obama sure but Mickey really why do you keep chasing your tail my friend. you ridicule white collar, no joe, I, spanky et al and yet you do nothing any different.
Pizza! Pizza!
@Mickey,
You reckon that CA works for Karl Rove?
He's certainly earning his pay...
sure mickey if you attach percentages like that. there is always a 99% and a 1% but how arbitrary and well full of caca to create some class envy.
funny you brought that up.
Remember you're the tattle tell here, perhaps you can let sally and tyler know.
that made no sense what so ever. I have no opinion? So you agree I am all facts LOL.. I accept your opinion whether I like it or not. Prove it other wise or hush up. I dont agree we know that but I accpet your opinion even if it is wrong
Ah good Mickey so whats the difference between you and I again? a pull of the lever at the voting booth.
You're all talk, no action and come across with this tough guy thing. Well enjoy your water walker even though he sinks like the rest of us.
I'm here for you. Together we'll break the fear of abandonment issues you have
couldnt pay me enough. consider it charity
@CA,
You would offer charity to Karl Rove?
Thought you guys didn't need no stinkin' charity....
I wonder if Obama will feel bad for attacking an unarmed man during the debates.
I wondered the same thing about if Romney would feel bad for attacking an un-teleprompted man...
sirie - again with the "teleprompter" stupidity? All of the Presidents in modern time have used teleprompters. Plus, Romney uses one at this "major" events!
Obama/Biden 2012
In Romney's defense I don't think his "47%" remarks were on a teleprompter, and he delivered those lines with authority and conviction:
I wonder how many times Obama will blame Bush during the first debate...
better question is whether he'll blame 08' Obama (pre evolution one)
It runs both ways, Romney blames President Obama for everything - from Gas Prices to the Deficit to Unemployment. Romney acts like the economy was doing fine until Obama got elected, and refuses to admit things are getting better (albeit slowly).
Maybe more people would trust Romney if he admitted Republican policies were at least partially at fault for the current economic situation. Maybe even more would trust him if he could explain how his policies differ from GW Bush's.
Paul Ryan should also admit that he voted YES on all of the major legislation that created the Deficit.
Paul Ryan - The Deficit? I Built That!
If by "unarmed" you mean that Romney lacks compassion, facts, specifics or the truth, then "no", Obama will not feel bad about debating him.
I wondered the same thing about if Romney would feel bad for attacking an un-teleprompted man...
=========
I have to laugh when I see Republicans deliver Obama teleprompter jokes...from a teleprompter.
I'd like to hear Mitt explain why he thinks hiring so many of George Bush's advisors won't lead to a repeat of the Bush administration.
He could explain it, Steeler Fan, but he has a plan and we'll hear all about it after the election. Or not.
Please Mitt, take Newts advice and yell at the moderator. Just like your other debates, I bet you get a big round of applause with the "self deport" line.
I wonder if Mitt is importing supporters like he did at the NAACP convention and at the town hall last week in Florida.
He probably will and they'll all be stragegically placed right where the cameras are sure to see them. Perhaps he can have another rally and have more miners brought in against their will.
I always wanted to know who those people are who do the snarky sarcastic laden voice overs on the political commercials.
I really want to know what kind of self-respecting actor appears in commercials like that entirely racist Pete Hoekstra commercial.
Politics aside, Caesar deserves credit for bringing Latin into the discussion. I at least appreciate whatever attempt is made.
Latin and Shakespeare...if you can bring them into debate then props to you.
out, out damned (political ad) spot!
I expect a giant tap dance fest. What passes for debates now days is not anything like a real debate. If you have a drinking contest regarding how many times a question is not answered, you will have the EMS at your house in no time.
that idea might win you a Nobel prize Ricardo!
amen
We can only hope for a gaff or two. ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?
I will watch the debate but do not expect any surprizes, it will be the same old, same old from both.
I did read that Romney is memorizing some "zingers"...I sure hope not....we don't want "zingers", we want facts and specifics.
The only details we've ever gotten are the 47%.
Ha!!
(he must be hiding that wand somewhere...perhaps if they filibuster some more, he'll wave it)
SailorGirl - I'm just wishing he'd twitch his nose and make them all disappear! Oh well, a girl can dream!
Obama/Biden 2012
I hear you, SeekingSanity. Things will quiet down after the election, but until then....
It doesn't matter how good the polls look, gotta vote. Must take back the house and keep the senate.
SailorGirl - absolutely but the House may be a little harder. I think we'll go up a few seats in the Senate.
Obama/Biden 2012
That's right we have to vote and get Obama out.
JERSY GIRL - No but we're going to vote as many Republicans out as possible and give President Obama a 2nd term!
All the Republicans are running is an idiot - Romney!
Obama/Biden 2012
Taking back the House won't be easy, by any stretch, but it should be a goal. We'll need a true 60 seats in the senate, too. No Blue Dogs, no Lieberman.
The only way the Jobs Act will come up for a vote is with a majority. The only way to ease the judicial emergency in this country is with a majority. It's too bad that a filibuster-proof majority is needed, but if we're going to get help to veterans, put people back to work, stop the war on women, then we need to take back the House and make gains in the Senate.
How about this for a fact check: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/post/obamas-claim-that-the-bush-tax-cuts-led-to-the-economic-crisis/2012/09/30/06e8f578-0a6e-11e2-afff-d6c7f20a83bf_blog.html?wpisrc=nl_pmpolitics
I notice how the left likes to quote and print results from fact checkers, this might be a good article to read.Especially the very last paragraph.
Question...with the Romney Campaign go back to ignoring the Fact Checkers on Thursday morning?
...and why is it that we can't have them there on Wednesday night to buzz in when either candidate tells a whopper?
Da Noid - It appears that you didn't even read the fact check I posted. If you did you would see that the BS Obama, Clinton and the rest of you left wing nuts are ranting about is just that BS when blaming Bush for all the current financial problems. But then Obama does nothing but play the blame game and whine and cry.
sfcret - It appears that you didn't even read my comment at all.
"...and why is it that we can't have them there on Wednesday night to buzz in when EITHER CANDIDATE tells a whopper?"
...oh, and the first part of my comment is based on this quote from Romney Campaign pollster Neil Newhouse...
"We're not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers."
Obama/Biden 2012
Because in 2008 a recession hit and a record number of people needed assistance. I guess you think President Obama would prefer everyone be on entitlements? These programs are no more easy to get on under Obama than Bush.
In case you haven't checked, I'm on MSN. And, yes I do think Obama would like everyone dependent on the Government.
Mockingbird - no the radical right would just have people starve. They frankly don't care!
Obama/Biden 2012
jersey: Everyone is dependent on the government in one way or the other, at one time or the other.
JERSY GIRL - yes I do think Obama would like everyone dependent on the Government. You of course know that makes no sense, right? NO ONE wants a lot of people dependent on the Government. What would be the point?
Do you ever get tired of just posting idiotcy?
Obama/Biden 2012
@JERSY,
yes, I do think Obama would like everyone dependent on the Government
So, you seriously believe that the President would like EVERYONE to be one of "those people"?
Seriously?
Bali Bob - clearly common sense is not one of JERSY GIRL'S strong suits.
Obama/Biden 2012
Hi Seeking, are you one that it's getting all that Obama free stuff?
Sorry, but Jersey Girl is 100% percent correct.
Free stuff for all that want to beat the system. Every time I hear that video, it turns my stomach that this President has created the notion that the Government controls all.
@Concern,
Free stuff for all that want to beat the system.
You mean like all those tax loopholes for the "job creators"?
Bali - oh no. You're trying to reason with Concern? It's a hopeless case. Most of us have her on ignore. She gets more ridiculous with each passing day!
Obama/Biden 2012
@Adler,
Bang! Zoom!
You just hit it out of the park!
Standing ovation to you!
Ann Romney has publicly called the mental stability of her husband into question.
President Obama will bring experience to the debate stage. Governor Romney has been memorizing "zingers".
Could there actually be a Mitt meltdown moment?
If that happens, what do you as a Republican?
Bali - I couldn't believe Anne Romney made the comment she did. Between she and Mitt the Democrats won't have to do much. Who in their right mind says they're worried about the strain the campaigning is having on their husband's mental state? My bad - the operative words - in their right mind. Never mind!
Obama/Biden 2012 to reduce the strain on Mitt's brain!
@Seeking,
"Right mind".
Ha. Pun intended? Point taken!
I am, however, serious with my question.
If Romneybot malfunctions (and there's a at least a 47% chance that he will), what do the Republicans do? Can they pick another candidate?
Bali Bob - I think if he had some serious problem or meltdown they absolutely could. But, it would really be an effort in futility since the person would really have no time to get their ideas across to anyone. I've wondered about that lately too.
Mitt seems to be imploding at a fast pace. I don't know if they can ditch him or not. I'm sure it's spelled out somewhere in the party platforml. My guess is he would have to be incapacitated or do something morally wrong. But, just a guess.
Obama/Biden 2012
@Seeking,
More musings: it seems to me that President Obama has become the Democrats' Ronald Reagan and Mitt Romney is becoming the Republicans' Michael Dukakis.
Bali Bob - Oh I think better of Micael Dukakis than to equate him with Romney.
Obama/Biden 2012
@Seeking,
Caveat: Reckon Bill Clinton has become the Democrats' Ronald Reagan. Remains to be seen what place Obama will take in the pantheon... but I'll bet that whatever happens, he will continue to be a player on the World stage.
How come former Republican Presidents don't do that?
@Seeking,
Oh I think better of Michael Dukakis than to compare him with Romney
Hmm....
Dukakis punk'd himself with the "tank driver" photo-op.
Romney tanked himself by punking 47% of Americans.
Guess you're right. No comparison.
Obama/Biden 2012
Oops, still learning how to use the italics function on this contraption... Trust you got my point, Seeking.
Got to love that ringing endorsement from Mitt's secret weapon. Remember when he said that they were using her sparingly?
I bet he wishes it was even more sparingly now.
Mr 47%.............looser!!!!
The questions asked should be tough ones. I think the most embarrassing statements by each of the candidates need to be addressed by them in these debates.
GET out and vote .
Answer these question Romney supporters:
