2012: Obama maintains his lead

The latest polls: In a Washington Post-ABC poll, Obama leads 49-47% among likely voters, but Obama’s up by 12 points in swing states, 52-41%; A Politico/GW poll also has Obama up 49-47%. In the states: Iowa: Obama’s up 49-45% in the Des Moines Register’s latest; Ohio: A Columbus Dispatch poll has Obama up 51-42%; Arizona: HighGround shows Romney up 46-42%.

A Lake/Conway poll (for the YWCA) finds Obama up with women, 49-31%, per Political Wire.

A Rand study/survey of the same panel of 3,500 voters over months shows Obama now up 50-43% when the race had been tied “until Sept. 7, the day after former President Clinton spoke at the Democratic National Convention,” the L.A. Times writes. Critics of the survey’s methodology say it is good for longitudinal research but not to gauge a random sampling of voters because these voters wind up paying more attention to the day-to-day ins and outs of the campaign.

“If the election were held today, an Associated Press analysis shows Obama would win at least 271 electoral votes, with likely victories in crucial Ohio and Iowa along with 19 other states and the District of Columbia. Romney would win 23 states for a total of 206. To oust the Democratic incumbent, Romney would need to take up-for-grabs Florida, Colorado, Nevada, North Carolina, New Hampshire and Virginia, which would put him at 267 votes, and upend Obama in either Ohio or Iowa.”

In Iowa, “Sixty percent of Iowans think the state is headed in the right direction, up 8 points since February, when the Iowa Poll last asked that question,” the Des Moines Register writes. “But Gov. Terry Branstad’s job approval has dropped two points, suggesting Iowans are not giving the Republican credit for their sunnier views about the state.”

AP’s Elliott previews Wednesday’s debate with a look at debate pitfalls. “In the history books … small moments often end up telling the broader story. Think of 73-year-old Ronald Reagan's pledge not to exploit his opponent's youth. Or John McCain's dismissive reference to Barack Obama as simply ‘that one.’”

“Anyone puzzled by the most recent U.S. economic data has reason for feeling so: The numbers sketch a sometimes contradictory picture of the economy,” AP writes.

AP looks at why the fight over abortion and birth control has mattered in this election.

Speaking of, Planned Parenthood has a new TV ad hitting Romney in Colorado.

American voters are starting to realize Romney's economic plan of giving more to the rich will simply not work to create new jobs.

Romney served 4 years as Governor of Massachusetts from 2003-2007. What was his job creating record there?

According to Lori Robertson at FactCheck.org, job growth in Massachusetts under Romney's leadership was 1.4%. Meanwhile, the jobs in the nation, as a whole, grew at 5.3% in the same period.

Romney has failed as a job creator in his only stint at managing an economy.

What was Massachusetts unemployment numbers during Romney's term?

What were the national numbers during that same time frame?

What do economists consider full employment?

Interesting polls.

Most people around my area seem to despise Obama more than the Antichrist.

They may disagree about Ron Paul v Mitt Romney, but one thing is for sure; they all want Obama gone.

If O'failure gets in there again. Only thing we have to look forward to is more of the same, No Hope and No change in my pocket. We have no future with Obama its only going to get worse and probably will end in a Depression very soon. He is out of touch with what we are facing, he has not taken any measures to get us fiscally sound and has actually made it worse. A socialist agenda only will lead to more despair and less jobs as you can see it is getting worse and could be better but businesses are continuing to go defunct and liberals are not business friendly therefore they are not middle class friendly, women friendly or American friendly.

depression? stock market has doubled since obama took office. the tax rate is less for most and not enough for the rest. most individuals now or soon will have health insurance for the first time in their life. all women must rec certain medical test paid by the ins companies. companies are starting to bring back jobs and when obama is re-elected and many of the republicans are thrown out, this great country of ours will get back to work.

you do remember what bush and the pubs left us with, dont you? and yet you want to re-visit that time of great economic depression?

Ha I'm joking, get over it, Obama will be re-elected because the majority of the population realizes that things are better since he took over and they do not wish to return to the policies that brought us to the brink of financial collapse.

katiecl, one of the best reasons to reelect Obama is to insure the Supreme Court is not packed with right-wingers that Willard would surely appoint. Just two more ultra conservatives on the court and important issues like choice would be in jeopardy. Women need to be very afraid of this possibility.

The polls in all the battleground states are trending towards Obama. Looking at an electoral map, you can see the difficulty Willard faces in getting to 270. Even though I support Obama, I'm being objective in making the observation that this election is looking good for the president. Unless there's an amazing stumble by team Obama, he will be reelected. Maybe now, McConnell and the senate Republicans will put aside their desire to make Obama a failed president and work with the president and the Democrats for the good of the country.

The dramatic shift in the swing states came in the wake of the republican national disaster...I mean convention and then the 47% gate comments. What Romney failed to consider in that massive amount of America that he dismissed as lazy moochers is that many of them would have voted for him. The elderly, veterans are good examples of that.

Nate Silvers is considered the election guru and predicted about all the outcomes of 2008 accurately has said those polls and the shifts are not wrong. The people desperately trying to dismiss them as wrong are but as the republicans are also getting hit with voter fraud charges in more than one state, its not looking promising. Obama will win, not because he has saved this country but because the republicans put up the most unlikable, calculating, elitist, self entitled jerk on the planet as their candidate.

The Republicans hate the president with passion. He was called all sort of names, every word he uttered is twisted and used again him even though that was not what it meant. They resolved to and remained a stubbling block to all the policies of the president and never credited him for anything even though he has taken solid steps to rebuild the economy. Ask those who want to take over from him what they want to do instead. They will tell you their plan is better than the president's plan, without any specifics. Look around and you find improvement in every sphere of the economy, but don't tell that to the Republicans. If you vote for the Republicans, you may be voting for voters' suppresion, for the oppressive one percent, for the uncompromizing tea partiers, for more gridlock, for no immigration reform, for no women's rights and much more.

Be wise and vote together to move this country forward.

.... Romney thinks like the mormon church ... if u aint white u aint right(eous) .... imagine when they realize a blackman beat the white one .... his church must be soooo shamed of his lies and flop flopping ...

            MORMONISM'S STRANGE
            DOCTRINES

The doctrines of Mormonism grew more strange as the cult developed. Presently, Mormon doctrines are as follows: (Note: These doctrines are documented from Mormon writers, not anti-mormon writers.)

            1. The true gospel was lost from the earth. Mormonism is its restoration, Mormon Doctrine, by Bruce R. McConkie, p. 635. They teach there was an apostasy and the true church ceased to exist on earth.
            2. We need prophets today, the same as in the Old Testament, Mormon Doctrine, p. 606.
            3. The book of Mormon is more correct than the Bible, History of the Church, 4:461.
            4. There is no salvation outside the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mormon Doctrine, p. 670.
            5. There are many gods, Mormon Doctrine, p. 163.
            6. There is a mother god, Articles of Faith, by James Talmage, p. 443.
            7. God used to be a man on another planet, Mormon Doctrine, p. 321.
            8. After you become a good Mormon, you have the potential of becoming a god, Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pages 345-347, 354.
            9. God the Father had a Father (Orson Pratt in The Seer, page 132; One of the purposes of the Seer was "to elucidate" Mormon Doctrine, The Seer, page 1, 1854.
            10. God the Father has a body of flesh and bones, Doctrine and Covenants, 130:22.
            11. God is in the form of a man, Joseph Smith, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 6, page 3.
            12. God is married to his goddess wife and has spirit babies, Mormon Doctrine p. 516.
            13. We were first begotten as spirit babies in heaven and then born naturally on earth, Journal of Discourse, Vol. 4, p. 218.
            14. The first spirit to be born in heaven was Jesus, Mormon Doctrine, page 129.
            15. The Devil was born as a spirit after Jesus "in the morning of pre-existence," Mormon Doctrine, page 192.
            16. Jesus and Satan are spirit brothers, Mormon Doctrine, p. 163.
            17. A plan of salvation was needed for the people of earth so Jesus offered a plan to the father and Satan offered a plan to the father but Jesus' plan was accepted. In effect the Devil wanted to be the Savior of all Mankind and to "deny men their agency and to dethrone god." Mormon Doctrine, page 193; Journal of Discourses, vol. 6, page 8.
            18. God had sexual relations with Mary to make the body of Jesus, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 4, p. 218, 1857.
            19. Jesus' sacrifice was not able to cleanse us from all our sins, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 3, p. 247, 1856.
            20. Good works are necessary for salvation, Articles of Faith, p. 92.
            21. There is no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith as a prophet of God, Doctrines of Salvation, Vol. 1, p. 188.
            22. Baptism for the dead, Doctrines of Salvation, Vol. II, p. 141. This is a practice of baptizing each other in place of non-Mormons who are now dead. Their belief is that in the afterlife, the "newly baptized" person will be able to enter into a higher level of Mormon heaven.
            23. There are three levels of heaven: telestial, terrestrial, and celestial, Mormon Doctrine, p. 348.

I for one am insulted by the nonsense of the war on women. This is just a bunch Obaloney. That supposedly educated women cannot see that Obama is not for women. His policies will eventually be our undoing.

He is sheep in muslim clothing! Wake up women of America. How many of you unless in the Obama regime are doing better? I guess many of you are in the stock market becuase from where I sit, those are the only persons who have fared better.

Gas prices are higher, food prices are highter, jobs mostly available to women are those earning 8-12 and hour. Why it may be better no job where is that job going.Do you qualify for a house? Can you afford a new car much less the gas? Have you been able to buy new clothes? If you are a single Mom, how are you managing.

And take a good look at Obamacare. Premiums are up, you will pay a penalty if you do not have health care. If you have health care less is being covered.Take the time to Page 272. section 1145: Cancer hospital will

It only helps illegals not seniors, once you are 76 and if you get cancer you are written off.

What about your mom and your grandmother?

A good economy with good paying jobs and chance to improve is the answer. Not more government programs which make us dependent.

Obama has not done this, looke into your wallets how much cash do you have on hand or left in your checking account to make a purchase and not worry what you will have to do without to pay for that purchase?

Mitt Romney for a real recovery, a recovery that we will be able to see in our bank accounts or money in our pockets.

The polls in Romney's home state of Governor Massachusetts show him losing by a landslide. So please consider that when you are casting your votes next month. Romney care in our state is a joke. He never considered how it was going to be paid for in the future. Also if you are middle class he never thought about how we were going to pay for it and the people who make too much to qualify and not enough to buy Private insurance pay an annual fine at tax time. And this is the plan he wants to put in place for the entire country?????? And most of the people he governed DONOT want to see him as president that should tell you something America

Romney is not for equal pay for women. He plans to defund Planned Parenthood. He wants to take away health care for pre-existing conditions. He has said he is against abortion even if a women is raped—no exceptions. His $5 trillion dollar tax cut will overwhelmingly adversely affect the middle class and poor, while the rich get more tax breaks. Taxes are already at an all time low-and it has not helped the economy. ¾ of his advisers are old Bush cronies.
He does not care about the 47%. Heck, he doesn't care about the 99%. And any of you on this board who thinks he cares about you, is seriously in denial.
