DUBLIN, OH – Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said her impression after attending a recent Mitt Romney speech is that "there's just nothing going on" with the Republican presidential nominee. She said his understanding of foreign policy not only lacks depth but diminishes U.S. standing abroad.
Fmr. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright joins Morning Joe to discuss the lingering war in Afghanistan, Romney's criticism of President Obama's foreign policy record, the latest in Syria and why Romney didn't mention Afghanistan in his RNC speech.
"He is so two-dimensional. I mean, up close and personal, there's just nothing going on," she said.
Speaking at a Women for Obama rally here just outside of Columbus, OH on Sunday, Albright told the crowd that she had recently been on hand when Romney delivered his address at the Clinton Global Initiative in New York.
"It's the sense that I've had throughout the campaign that it's unclear what [Romney] really believes in," Albright told reporters after the event. "I think when you contrast him with President Obama, who also gave a speech later there, and President Clinton, who spoke several times there, there is not, kind of, a sense of depth."
Albright also mentioned the video of Romney suggesting that 47 percent of Americans view themselves as victims, arguing that the comments "diminish us in many different ways" and that the former Massachusetts governor's rhetoric sounds like he wants to start another war.
Albright, who in 1996 was appointed by President Bill Clinton to become the first female secretary of state, has been an active surrogate for President Barack Obama's re-election campaign. She has traveled to swing states across the country, often reaching out to women voters. Sunday's event came just two days before Ohio begins early voting -- and while she did mention women's issues -- most of her speech was aimed at discrediting Romney's foreign policy views.
While speaking at the Clinton Global Initiative, GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney offered his take on why current US foreign aid practices are generally ineffective, saying that building a strong nation through free enterprise is the best assistance America can provide to developing and impoverished nations.
The former top diplomat also defended the Obama administration’s handling of the recent attack on a U.S. Consulate in Libya, telling reporters, "I think they said what they knew, when they knew it."
The attack, which U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice originally said was spontaneous, has since been deemed by the administration as a coordinated and planned effort. The Romney campaign pounced on what they described as mixed messages.
White House senior adviser David Plouffe said on NBC's "Meet The Press" that it was not initially clear if the attack in Benghazi was an act of terror, while Obama campaign senior adviser David Axelrod said on CNN's "State of the Union" that, "The president called it an act of terror the day after it happened."
“The Obama White House and the Obama campaign can’t seem to get their stories straight on the attack on our consulate in Libya,” Romney spokesperson Ryan Williams said in press release.
“These inconsistencies raise even more questions about the confusion and mixed messages that have marked the White House’s response from the very beginning.”
Albright accused Republicans of politicizing the death of four Americans.
"It takes a while to know what all the facts are. So I believe that the administration is telling us what they know and they are being very careful not to get ahead of the whole investigative process," she said. "We also support the president's re-election because we want a chief executive who actually understands foreign policy."

Not sure exactly what he should do, but I am pretty sure he shouldn't draw a line in the sand beyond which we go to war over Israel, for all the obvious reasons (not the least of which is if we can't pay for the existing wars, how can we afford to start another war?).
It wouldn't be going to war for Israel, it would be to keep Iran, a terrorism sponser, from obtaining nuclear weapons.

TARP was began under Bush....Bush did not have faith in the free enterprise system so he succumbed to bankers selling fear as they could not meet liquidity issues. Their goal, to keep Glass-Steagall from re-consideration and provide politicians cover for their CRA debacle. These joined forces to sell at the Federal level. If there were no bad loans there was no financial crisis.. but as they were complicit in causing the "crisis", they became allies.
The early fear selling came from Goldman Sachs and past executives who were heading for bankruptcy for bad investing as their insurer, AIG, could not cover losses. I believe time will show that fear was their means to gain access to tax dollars for the preservation of these few and not necessarily save us from a depression.
The results of the intervention inevitably was to stall the greatest economic engine in the world, the American Free Enterprise System, from a quick recovery by using bad laws, over regulation, business uncertainty, and a co-conspiracy of large business tied to political cronyism by a partnership that should have been prosecuted.
The US citizens have been sold something that history will unravel and declare it to be the greatest financial crisis fraud in the 21st Century in that it could have been avoided. Take a look/see to a comparison between the US and Canada during this crisis. Why did not one bank in Canada go under? Nor did they experience the mortgages crisis with the same financial stresses... nor was there a need to re-organize private institutions. It is a comparison providing insight into how to determine who and what were the real problems. What Canada did not do was what the US did. The US allowed government intervention creating laws for their perceived good thereby causing unintended consequences. The US allowed free enterprise companies not to go into bankruptcy protection, as was the law, after billions were siphoned for political cronyism of tax payers money to "save" ???.
Those that believe in more government have yet to learn the lesson...government is not the solution, government is the problem and the unintended consequences it causes can bring down the entire system creating more poverty and shrinkage in the middle class especially when it combines its interest with those of big business. It does not matter, banking or drugs or insurance or what ever business interests, when they combine with government to create avenues to further their business interest, we all lose.
Those lessons should have been learned in WWII as too many were wanting to protect their political careers, too many were wanting personal security and would sell their freedoms in an effort to obtain a fleeting solution, and too many were wanting to believe there is such a thing as a 'free lunch' if it came from government.
These interests came together to sell that their interactions were keeping us out of a depression....I do not think so. It was but a solution for the few at the expense of the many... and only to be experienced again if we do not break up the 'to big to fail' and government collusion.
Our primary political concern should be that of creating the best environment for the free enterprise capitalistic system to flourish for the greater good it creates and not what a few elites decide is best.
I don't believe Obama was an "A" lister with tons of foreign policy experience when he took office either.
He wasn't but he is now, whereas Mittens can't visit our closest ally without needlessly and oafishly pissing them off.

Paul Ryan said in an article a few days ago that he would not go into his tax plan because of all of the math involved.
America needs to call him on it and make him do a full days worth of explaining his tax policy/plan if he and Romney expects to be elected.
Basically what Ryan wants is for everyone to trust him without showing Americax what his tax policy is comprised of. Once elected his tax policy would most likely screw alot of Americans over.

Where is the article on MSNBC discussing how the Obama administration is telling Defense contractors who will lay off workers, not to announce it to those workers before the election, which is illegal under the WARN law (requires 60 day notice) and offering up "legal fees" to defend the action.
