Romney hopeful military action isn't needed in Iran

ABOARD THE ROMNEY CAMPAIGN PLANE-- Mitt Romney said Friday following a conversation with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu that he was hopeful that the U.S. wouldn't have to use military force to halt Iran's progress toward nuclear weapons.

The Republican presidential nominee told reporters traveling with him that he thought a peaceful resolution in Iran was still within reach, though Romney cautioned that it was important to leave open the option to use military force.

"I do not believe that in the final analysis we will have to use military action," Romney told reporters traveling with him from Philadelphia to Boston. " I certainly hope we don’t have to."

The GOP presidential nominee, who has long advocated the U.S. taking a tougher stand against the Iranian regime, said despite his optimism it would be important in future negotiations with Iran to keep a military option on the table.

"It must be something which is known by the Iranians as a possible tool to be employed to prevent them from becoming nuclear," Romney said of a possible use of military force. "But I certainly hope that we can prevent any military action from having to be taken."

The remarks came roughly one hour after Romney concluded his telephone conversation with the Israeli prime minister, who delivered an address to the United Nations yesterday in which he advocated for the drawing of a bright "red line" with Iran's leadership - offering a clear point of no return which would trigger Western military action and hopefully dissuade the regime from further pursuing its nuclear program.

Netanyahu also spoke by phone with President Barack Obama earlier today, and Romney was asked to draw a distinction between his views on Iran and those of the president. Romney said the administration's policies have moved more to mirror with his own views over time, pointing to newer, more aggressive sanctions placed on the Iranian regime as evidence, and saying he would continue to see how well Obama would match his rhetoric to his actions.

"His words more recently are more consistent with the words that I’ve been speaking for some time," Romney said. "And we’ll see what actions he pursues."

So Romney thinks that Obama has moved to his point of view. Kind of like the auto bailout I guess. What a crock. Romney's ego knows no bounds. Now that he is getting CIA briefings, I hope he doesn't open his mouth and cause more trouble for our country. Not real hopeful however.

What a remarkable change of rhetoric. Romney sure toned it down.

It's most likely because the debates are coming up and he figured out

the sound of war drums beating wasn't resonating.

I don't trust him. He will change his tune tomorrow.

FR --

he was hopeful that the U.S. wouldn't have to use military force to halt Iran's progress toward nuclear weapons.

No, he's not. Why do you think he didn't want to talk about the troops at the RNC?

Two reasons:

1. He knew there was a veterans' jobs bill pending, and he didn't want to bring attention to veterans' issues because he knew how that was going to come out and that it would make him look bad.

2. He knows he has no intention of withdrawing from Afghanistan and every intention of seizing a moment to invade Iran.

Because his overlords require it of him.

Dick Cheney approves this message.

And that was the price of Cheney's endorsement.

Reports today are that the economic sanctions against Iran are having a devastating effect on the country. It appears our President's approach has merit - whoda thunk it? Clearly he took the best advice of his experts and acted as a true President - chosing not to risk the lives of our brave men and women if there was another way to achieve success.

Mitt's attitude toward taking overt military action is simple: since his sons aren't risking their lives, and the brave young men and women who are fighting and dying for their country are the children of the working class, who cares, right? Right, Willard??

thetotas, President Obama gets a daily intelligence briefing; the intelligence officer travels with him on every trip. The conservative talking point lie claiming he skipped his daily intelligence briefing was promoted by a right-leaning research group called the Government Accountability Institution but the only accountability they have is to research how best to tell a lie and spread it around. Educate yourself instead of trying to be funny by repeating lies.

Layton, I'm pretty positive candidates don't. For one thing, they do NOT have the security clearance levels and compartmented special access required to receive the information. The government would be in the final stages or have just completed of background checks on Romney.

It is highly unlikely that Obama would have skipped any intelligence briefings. The information changes from minute to minute, which is why the briefing officer travels with the President. Ignoring any intelligence briefing could be disastrous, and Obama is well aware of that fact. The intelligence itself may lag or even be incorrect, which is why there is sometimes a delay in reaction while information is either confirmed or discounted, depending upon back-up sources.

An air strike on Iran's nukes would only put its program back, by 2-6 years. It would entrench that nutty, martyrdom--seeking regime in Tehran, forever, though. It would then still be in power when Iran eventually gets its nukes.

The Israelis know this, and are having a serious debate about it. Many Generals & Mossad leaders do not back Bibi's policies. Maybe we should also have a serious debate over Iran? Instead of bumper-sticker comments.

The recent 2001-2009 regime in the USA handed Iran a commanding position in the Middle East, by taking out its two biggest enemies--Saddam & the Taliban. We gave Iran a Shi'ite--dominated, friendly government in Iraq, filled with people who had lived in Iran in exile.

When VP Cheney & Karl Rove were busy "outing " Valerie Plame as a CIA agent, she was trying to bring Iraq's nuclear scientists to the US. The Administration killed that program. I wonder where these nuclear scientists went, after we abandoned them?? Denmark?

Romney's problem (aside from his longtime friendship with Bibi, and not much interest in, or knowledge of the outside world, if he cannot park his money there) is that this multi-polar world requires someone who can play 3-dimensional chess, not just Monopoly.

Fast and furious was a continuing operation that began under Bush but don't let facts get in the way. The ATF runs it's programs despite who the president is. If you think we've lost respect in the world under Obama over Bush you've totally lost any ability for rational thought. Trying to blame Obama for a terrorist attack that killed 4 as proof of a lack of respect ignores the 299 marines killed in Lebanon under Reagan, 14 embassy attacks under Bush and 9-11. Why is it when an attack on us occurs under a republican president we should all stand together but if a democrat is president it's a sign of failure and weakness? Why don't republicans love America who evers president?

Obama is the mistake of '08!.....an incompetent assclown!

Blaming that stupid silly movie clip on the Embassy attack is like blaming a big mac cheeseburger for Michelle's big ass.

Jimmy Carter was so far ahead in the polls before the election of 1980, that he still can't believe he was nailing together $hithouses for Humanity in 1981. LOFLMAO

Reagan was able to sell trickle down, Romney can't. Been there done that. Trickle down didn't work under Bush with his 400 billion give away to the rich why would Romney's plan to give them another 500 billion a year suddenly work?

Funny how our ELITE DRAFT DODGING coward hopes the US doesn't go to war.Well his meetings with Israel isn't going to stop Israels wanting/needing the US to cover their backsides as usual and Romney the coward will be found on a beach in France if the US has to get involved physically. This loser's chance on getting to Commander in Chief of the US armed Forces is ridiculous. There is about the smae chance as ROBME bringing his ill gotten fortune to US Boundaries and paying taxes on it.

Romney's comments in this article - that he "certainly hopes" that military action won't be needed against Iraq - must be a huge disappointment to all the neo-con war-monger types who make up the bulk of the Republican party.

The fact is, from a practical point of view, we simply can't afford to go to war in 2013. A big part of the current economic misery is from all the money that we borrowed and wasted at the direction of Bush and Cheney.

                          I meant Iran, not Iraq.

First of all "Brainless Bush" was the biggest mistake in the White House since Warren G. Harding. That is fact! "Brainless Bush" did not win in 2000, however his brother committed so much "Voter Fraud" in Florida. That it was evident that the GOP/RNC stole yet another election from the American People. Hey America! Has America kept up with the latest cases of voter fraud by the GOP/RNC. Again!

One wonders if the GOP/RNC "Speculator and Chief" has talked to "Chump-Change-Cheney" yet? Yes America! "Romulian Romney" has no Foreign Policy of his own, and he will told what his Foreign Policy will be. It is clear that the "Brainless Bush" State Department "Cronies/Crooks/War Criminals" will be back dictating US Foreign Policy.
