Obama: 'He could fall off the stage'

“President Obama has been forced to cancel several debate practice sessions with Senator John F. Kerry, whom he tapped to play stand-in for Republican challenger Mitt Romney, leaving little time for them to spar ahead of next week’s first presidential debate,” the Boston Globe writes. “The Massachusetts senator has held at least one mock debate with Obama to help him prepare for the first matchup against the former Massachusetts governor to be held Oct. 3 in Denver, but several others were cancelled due to the the president’s busy schedule, said deputy Obama campaign manager Stephanie Cutter.”

Buzzfeed: “Aides to President Barack Obama are sparing nothing — including their boss's balance — in an almost comical attempt to lower expectations for the president in next week's debate with Mitt Romney. On Air Force One today, traveling press secretary Jen Psaki was asked by reporters what the worst thing that could happen to him on Wednesday night. ‘Well, he could fall off the stage,’ she replied of the president.

"‘The president will have some time to prepare and he's been doing some studying, but it is certainly less than we have anticipated because of events in the Middle East, because of his busy travel schedule — because of just the constraints of governing,’ she added. ‘So it is less than we originally planned.’ Psaki lamented the president's ‘loquaciousness’ and argued that Romney is the most prepared debater in presidential debate history — on account of his preparation sessions going back to May.”

Bill Clinton will campaign for Obama in New Hampshire Wednesday, the same day as the first presidential debate.

Obama leads narrowly in North Carolina in a state that should demographically be tougher for him. But AP finds a robust grassroots organization on the ground for the president: “Dozens of volunteers armed with clipboards and voter registration forms gather at President Barack Obama’s field office here every day. Their mission: Fan out across the city seeking new voters in this rapidly growing state,” AP writes, adding, “The effort, it seems, has borne fruit — to the tune of more than 250,000 new registered voters in North Carolina since April 2011, according to Obama’s team. That’s more new voters than the campaign has registered anywhere else in the country. It’s an eye-popping total in a state that Obama won by just 14,000 votes four years ago.”

“Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) joined President Barack Obama in Virginia Beach today and issued a stinging attack on Mitt Romney's failure to mention veterans during his presidential nomination acceptance speech, while also noting that Romney did not serve in the military,” Roll Call notes. Webb said, "They will not say this, so I will say it for them. They are owed, if nothing else, at least a mention, some word of thanks and respect, when a presidential candidate who is their generational peer makes a speech accepting his party's nomination to be commander in chief. And they are owed much more than that - a guarantee that we will never betray the commitment that we made to them and to their loved ones."

“Billionaire financier George Soros has given $1 million to the primary super PAC helping President Obama,” USA Today notes. “The funding is a boost to Priorities USA Action in the final weeks of the campaign.”

hmmm. seems i was berated for saying that Ms. Psaki was still employed, when the right wing troll said she was no longer working for the campaign. This article would tend to point out the troll was incorrect...

falling off the stage would be bad, but allowing Mr. Romney to look good in this debate is the worst thing that could happen to the President. All the gains he's been making can be reversed if Mr. Romney comes out of the debate on top (unlikely as it may be, it would be disasterous for the President).

You know as well as us all that the president is in real big trouble without the teleprompter. His rambling on the time clock won't produce the intended response he needs to make.

Romney will be the winner as he has so much ammunition.

You know as well as us all that the president is in real big trouble without the teleprompter.

I don't recall Obama using a teleprompter in the 2008 debates with John McCain. I do, however, remember the controversy about the mysterious lump in the back of G.W. Bush's coat during a debate with John Kerry that suggested Bush cheated by wearing a hidden radio receiver that Karl Rove used to tell Bush what to say.

Two Points;

One, the President does just fine with out a teleprompter, he is very effective in town hall events.

Two, this debate if you did not know it has not strict time limits with limited interruption by the moderator. So yes the president does tend to get long winded and professorial, but he wont be constrained in the first event by a clock.

Obama's town hall events are always carefully planned and screened including any journalist covering it. Can't have tough questions from the participants. Rarely is it when journalist gets to directly ask the Prez tough questions that could be a problem for him.

poor Barack..hanging out with Jay-Z, yukking it up with Letterman and The View gals, and fundraisers in Vegas and CO cut into his debate prep. The most priceless line is "the constraints of governing" as though they have had any impact on the campaigner-in-chief who, nearly four years later, does not seem to know that he actually won the job.

Signing up 250K new voters isn't a sure fire gain as democrats turn in all registration forms including those indicating they're republican. That's the reason the GOP hired Nathan Sproul even though he'd been accused since 2004 in almost a dozen states as illegally destroying ballots indicating they were democrats and discouraging people who indicated the were democrats from filling out forms. The GOP did require Nathan to form a new company under a different name and leave his name off the company paper work so his past activities wouldn't draw scrutiny.

GOP voter registration fraud: Mark Jacoby arrested, Nathan Sproul under investigation (again)

The Los Angeles Times reported on Saturday that "Dozens of newly minted Republican voters say they were duped into joining the party by a GOP contractor with a trail of fraud complaints stretching across the country." Voters say they were duped into registering as Republicans - Los Angeles Times

Voters contacted by The Times said they were tricked into switching parties while signing what they believed were petitions for tougher penalties against child molesters. Some said they were told that they had to become Republicans to sign the petition, contrary to California initiative law. Others had no idea their registration was being changed.

I don't know. I think most people have already made up their minds about who they are going to vote for by now. Many don't even tune in for the debates. I, for one, could care less about the debates because I know I'm not voting for Romney no matter what lies come out of his mouth during the debates. People who have been paying attention realize that both Willard and his running mate, Ryan, seem to have a serious problem with telling the truth and they don't care if the people they are talking to know they are lying. That, and the fact that Romney is always putting his foot in his mouth, causes me to have major doubts about his ability to lead this country. Not to mention his failure to reign in his out of control Teapublican party which he's supposed to be leading but looks more like they are leading him (right off a cliff).

I really don't expect to hear many details from Romney because he has too many puppet masters. The GOP will be expecting one thing and the Tea Nuts another, so really what can the man say?

I also wonder how many people will feel betrayed by Romney come debate time. He has catered his message to each group saying whatever it is they want to hear. Those messages will not gel come debate time.

Taxpayers, like me, and I mean real taxpayers, not the folks that think because they file a return and get thousands back in EITC, are tired of supporting this wasteful and socialistic regime.

We have added trillions in debt and received absolutely no return. We are going into (or have reached) another recession with no word from the White House other than its the Republican's fault. And, now, the government announced it cost the taxpayers $1.4 Billion to keep Barry and Michelle in the lap of luxury to which they have become accustomed.

Seems the $53 million it cost the UK for the Royal family's upkeep is quite the bargain.

republicans advocating against Obama is like christians advocating against Harry Potter books. Sadly misinformed. We need to fire the filthy rich owned media advocating for republicans by spreading viscious lies and propaganda for their own gain. Maybe then, repubicans could get a clue.

The best "worst case" scenario is that Paul Ryan files articles of impeachment against Barack Obama for carpetbagging, and against George W. Bush, for the same in oil stocks and bidding, and against W. "Mitt" Romney for sandbagging, has them both arrested for insider trading and false advertising, and disbars John Roberts for conflict of interest. Then the fight begins to capture Roman Polanski, sky pilot of the current media glut, i.e fabricated everything and then some. All without wearing concrete galoshes to the bottom of Lake Michigan.

Can someone please explain what George Soros has to do with counting ballots for the presidential election? Is he a government contractor as well as a money source for the incumbent? If there is a relationship it's almost like inviting the fox into the henhouse.

I think what I love most of this republican platform is all the socialist/communist comments about our President. Kinda makes me feel likes it's the 40's and 50's again with McCarthey on his witch hunt. Some things never change I guess

Again, more lies. Obama is a great communicator. he doesnt need to practice the host has already givin him a list of questions that will be asked. What does he need a sparring buddy for.

I am not a religious nut-only a history buff, but I do believe that God, ultimately, is in charge. I also believe that God has blessed our country as His representative on Earth with the divine task to spread democracy and freedom for all across the globe. In the sanctity of the voting booth I will cast my vote for whom I think God wants for President- It is important that I vote, and I will, but who I vote for is not as important as my obligation to support God's choice , and I will.
