Seinfeld actor stumps for his 'man-crush' as early voting begins in Iowa

ADEL, Iowa -- A pizzeria in this small city west of Des Moines was the setting for a celebrity visit Thursday from an actor once famous for talking about nothing.

But these days, Jason Alexander -- who played George Costanza on the TV series "Seinfeld" -- is a surrogate for Barack Obama, and he insists he has a lot on his mind.

"I am hardcore middle class.  And I stepped in a puddle.  And that puddle was called, 'Seinfeld,'" Alexander told about 50 supporters of the president.  He said the job put him in the upper echelons of society.

"I do not want to live in that 1-percent.  I don't believe in it," he continued.  "I don't think our country, or any country, runs well when the 1-percent is thriving and the rest are suffering and struggling."

The supporters were gathered to listen to Alexander and then walk to a nearby elections office to cast early votes for President Obama -- just one of a number of statewide events marking the start of early voting Thursday in Iowa.

Alexander told the crowd he has a "man-crush" on Obama, who he said he has met several times.

Later, in an interview with NBC News, Alexander praised Obama as a man of "conviction" and "principle," though he allowed that such lofty considerations would be beyond the reach of the man he played on television during the 1990's.

"George would probably think he was the only savior for this entire race.  He would step forward as a write-in candidate," Alexander said.

Both campaigns seem to be hoping their supporters will step forward, too -- and stick to the script.

In downtown Des Moines earlier Thursday, officials said foot traffic at the elections office had reached about 250 people by late morning -- more than double the first day of early voting in 2008.

"This was by far the busiest opening day we’ve had in the ten years I’ve been in the office," said Jamie Fitzgerald, the commissioner of elections in Polk County.

An Obama campaign volunteer waiting to vote there, Kathy Stuart, said the campaign made a push to gather supporters.

"They were trying to get people to come to breakfast, and then come to vote early," she said.  "They were really interested in getting as many voters to the polls as possible."
Iowa Republicans also threw events Thursday focused on early voting.

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas rallied Mitt Romney supporters in Cedar Rapids, and Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad held a conference call with volunteers Thursday evening.

I agree with CB-St. Louis...if The President had "grown ups" on both sides working with him, it could be better. The American people knows better, it is only the righties who appear to be "unbalanced" in thier thinking. I'm for everyone helping themselves, but shame on all who thought that the President could wave a majic wand and undue everything that Bush and Cheney did in 8 years. You have a Congress that has done nothing and a House who filibustered everything that came across their desk. Don't tell me the DEMS had the house for two years, bills don't come across your desk and you sign them into law within 2-3 months. When you have that many "lawyers" in one room, everybody has to give thier "professioinal" opinion on every matter that is brough up which slows up everything. For those who thinks Mitt is the golden boy, if you don't have the money, you are pretty much on the sidelines with the rest of the Nation. I for one, is banking on Hillary Clinton 2016.

It's too bad that Mr. Alexander is so ashamed of his success. I wonder if he has written any checks to the US Treasury Department to lighten the burden on his rightous soul? I really doubt it.

I'll do my part and I'm sure others will do the same to help you out. Say hello to your buddy Samual L. Jackson for me while you're standing on the soup line.

Obama’s most influential mentor was Frank Marshall Davis, a card-carrying member of the Communist Party of America. In Dreams From My Father, Obama referred to Davis more than 20 times, but never by his full name — Obama referred to him merely as “Frank”. Why would he not honor his most revered mentor by revealing his full name? To keep voters from knowing that the man who shaped his political views was a communist who hated America? We just don’t know.

In his memoir, Obama acknowledged an affinity for Marxist professors and far-left student groups while he was in college. Does he still have an affinity for people with communist views? We just don’t know.

In 1995, Obama began his political career in the home of William "Bill" Ayers, a self-avowed communist professor who has sought the destruction of the U.S. capitalist system for more than fifty years. Does Obama share the communist views of the man in who helped launch his political career? We just don’t know.

When Obama moved to Chicago, he developed a close, 20-year association with Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the racist, anti-American pastor of Trinity United, a church that teaches black liberation theology, a religious doctrine predicated on the concept of an oppressor class vs. a victim class, i.e., Marxism. Did Obama share the communist beliefs of his pastor? We just don’t know.

As president, Obama has appointed a long list of people who hold extreme-left views to key positions in his administration, including former green jobs czar Van Jones, an avowed communist. Was Obama unaware that Jones was a communist? We just don’t know.

Obama’s White House communications director Anita Dunn told a high school graduating class that Mao is one of her two most admired philosophers. Is the infamous communist dictator also one of Obama’s most admired philosophers? We just don’t know.

A Cuban flag bearing an image of Che Guevara was removed from the wall of Obama’s 2008 Houston campaign office only after it was reported in the news. Does Obama secretly admire the notorious Marxist revolutionary? We just don’t know.

In Dec. 2009, an ornament with a depiction of communist dictator Mao Tse Tung was hung on the White House Christmas tree. Did Obama give a wink and a nod to having a Christmas ornament with the image of one of history’s most infamous communists displayed in the White House? We just don’t know.

In Dreams From My Father, Obama described the only six months he ever worked for a profit-making company as “working for the enemy”. Does he still side with the communist belief that profit-making companies are the enemy? We just don’t know.

Five days before he was elected, Obama stated that he intended to “fundamentally transform the United States of America.”To fundamentally transform is to bring about profound changes in existing institutions and values. Was the fundamental transformation he had in mind replacing U.S. capitalism with communism? We just don’t know. Or do we?

Are Americans naive enough to relect Barack (Barry) Obama (Soetero)? We just don't know........yet.

Apparently people in Iowa are too stupid to think for themselves.

Luckily, the campaigns realized this early enough to make plans to bring in funny actors and other politicians to tell Iowans how to make decisions about their country's future.

We are so lucky we have well-informed celebrities available to lead us.

Anybody know which candidate Honey Boo Boo has endorsed?

Sounds like something Romney would say to $50,000 a plate supporters on a hidden camera. While they're busy feeling like "victims" who "will never take responsibility for themselves."

I can't wait to never see Romney again.

Are you crazy the only place in DC lacking leadership is the house of representatives, this President under the worst and shameful and unfounded attacks in history has held his cool and his head high and continued to try to make lives better in this country for everyone. It is leadership that does the unpopular things for the right reason. The Letty Ledbetter Act, The Health-care Act, The Dream Act, attempting to pass an Equal Pay Act for women no matter the party. Bailing out the car industry when the candidate on the other side said in 2008 to let it die ( I live in MA and he killed a lot of jobs when he was in charge ranking us 47th in the nation) saving not on jobs in hard hit Detroit but in Iowa and Wisconsin, and Ohio giving all of those states a better employment rate than the rest of the country. These are facts what leadership has come out of the house controlled by the GOP, maintaining the trillion dollar tax cuts for the one percent putting us further in deficit! Bin Laden, gone, our soldiers coming finally out of harms way in one war, Iraq which we know the reasons for going in were a lie.

Thanks for wishing us good luck I know I am working heart and soul to make sure the rest of this great country doesn't suffer the romney plan like we did in MA, and the Ryan budget don't even get me started if you call that leadership, then I will pray for you.

If Jason is so convinced of his (principles) why wasn't he handing out his hundred dollar bills right then and there? He certainly won't give up his wealth/lifestyle so that the poor can have his money. He'll still be rich and lifestyle in tact If he is taxed at 33 percent, so it's nothing to him. Hardworking people with less money will actually feel it when money is snatched from them to give to able bodied non-workers. But hey he doesn't have to worry about running and supporting a business-- and keep his employees on the payroll-- and pay for obamacare and other self-entitlements. What people NEED is jobs--higher paying jobs!!! And a better ECONOMY!! That is what the country should be focused on, not more entitlements that increase our outrageous national debt. It has already been proven that taxing the 1% at higher rates won't pay for all the many entitlements that are already on the books.

Stick to comedy, not politics. By the way, you have only had one successful gig at comedy so it is not like you know everything about that even. I have no reason to respect one more very left leaning actor who is unable to tell when our country is in trouble...and not because of it being too conservative....

I love all the people bashing Romney for having money.sounds like petty jelousy to me. its all there for the taking, it is the American way. love it or leave it. Some of you need to go back to 8th grade and understand the difference between a centralized and decentralized government and why it is important. let me ask you this pro BO supporters..you get your way and now the middle class has all the goodies you feel that are denied to you, then what? This country was founded on the backs of the middle class not the brain power. It takes all kinds to build a country as great as the USA but be realistic, without the carrot in front of the donkey the cart does not move. The only reason BO could not keep any promises about the economy and so on is he is winging it....no real plan, the gov will cover it .....

I'm happy he has a man-crush on candidate, maybe he also gets a tingle up his leg. You keep voting for the candidate that speaks well but his actions don't follow his words. Why do Hollywood types vote Democrat? Because they are part of the moron vote. Check out the life stories of most actors and actresses and you will see mostly high school dropouts who happen to be born with good looks. Most waited tables and never make it big and become a burden on society looking for handouts. One in a million makes it to the top. Those are truly life's lottery winners. That's why they are liberals. They feel a sense of guilt. That's where the "fair share" nonsense comes from. They don't want to share their money, just everyone else's.
