ADEL, Iowa -- A pizzeria in this small city west of Des Moines was the setting for a celebrity visit Thursday from an actor once famous for talking about nothing.
But these days, Jason Alexander -- who played George Costanza on the TV series "Seinfeld" -- is a surrogate for Barack Obama, and he insists he has a lot on his mind.
"I am hardcore middle class. And I stepped in a puddle. And that puddle was called, 'Seinfeld,'" Alexander told about 50 supporters of the president. He said the job put him in the upper echelons of society.
"I do not want to live in that 1-percent. I don't believe in it," he continued. "I don't think our country, or any country, runs well when the 1-percent is thriving and the rest are suffering and struggling."
The supporters were gathered to listen to Alexander and then walk to a nearby elections office to cast early votes for President Obama -- just one of a number of statewide events marking the start of early voting Thursday in Iowa.
Alexander told the crowd he has a "man-crush" on Obama, who he said he has met several times.
Later, in an interview with NBC News, Alexander praised Obama as a man of "conviction" and "principle," though he allowed that such lofty considerations would be beyond the reach of the man he played on television during the 1990's.
"George would probably think he was the only savior for this entire race. He would step forward as a write-in candidate," Alexander said.
Both campaigns seem to be hoping their supporters will step forward, too -- and stick to the script.
In downtown Des Moines earlier Thursday, officials said foot traffic at the elections office had reached about 250 people by late morning -- more than double the first day of early voting in 2008.
"This was by far the busiest opening day we’ve had in the ten years I’ve been in the office," said Jamie Fitzgerald, the commissioner of elections in Polk County.
An Obama campaign volunteer waiting to vote there, Kathy Stuart, said the campaign made a push to gather supporters.
"They were trying to get people to come to breakfast, and then come to vote early," she said. "They were really interested in getting as many voters to the polls as possible."
Iowa Republicans also threw events Thursday focused on early voting.
Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas rallied Mitt Romney supporters in Cedar Rapids, and Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad held a conference call with volunteers Thursday evening.

It is estimated that Jason Alexander's personal wealth is around $75,000,000. Now if he is so hell bent on not being in the 1% how on earth has he maintained so much money. You would think he would have spent say $50 mil giving it to the 99% to make their lives happier and to make him closer to the 99'ers with only $25 mil at his disposal.

Mitt Romney: the better you get to know him, the more you're going to dislike him. Ask likely voters in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, or Michigan. These are all states that Romney has lived in or has been active in. And he's trailing badly in all three.
When he left the governorship in Massachusetts at the end of his only term, the was the 2nd most disapproved governor in all 50 states. Only about 34 percent of that state's citizens gave him a thumbs up after his 4 years as governor there.

I have read multiple rants from RW conservatives for weeks. About the President being a socialist and every other negative thing. Why is it they expect BO to have fixed the economy in 4 years and Mitt says his plan will take him 8-10 years? The Repubs have an "elitist" attitude and they think that they should have control of "power". Bottom line, they are acting like a bunch of toddlers who plays with a toy, gets tired of it and don't want it anymore, but as soon as you pick up the toy and it looks like you are enjoying it, they want it back! They are not entitled. Middle class-poor class repubs, wake up! They are only using you for your vote against abortion issues (which they run on for every election and does nothing about it afterwards), "evangelical" when it comes to immoral issues however (politicans on both sides are some of the biggest liars, thiefs, adulterers, covetousness people), and those that are prejudice based on color, creed, and nationality. After an election, they don't mention abortion issues and you don't hear them adopting any kids in orphanages; those who want "Jim Crow Laws" back still struggle to make ends meet, but the hatred of "others" has been ignited and continues to divide, and the "religious" is just as "self righteous" as ever. They could care less about "middle class people" outside of election time; and this doesn't mean that the DEMS or INDEPEDENTS are angels either. As Oscar says, because he said he would. But more importantly, after 4 years its still getting worse. After 4 years of Romney, it may not be fixed yet, but will be a good deal better and on the way to being fixed.
If you believed what any politician says, you are really going to be disappointed. That is why politicians are branded liars. McCain did not see the big picture where America was heading. He did not have a vision other than continue George W. Bush II agenda, he is no " Maverick " sad to say. Staying the wrong course for america.
No US President, incumbent or someone now on a 6 year campaign can fix the economy. Thats the reality. The incumbent has a better chance to make the economy going in the right direction as soon as congress will do their job of looking after the interest of all americans.

Why does a celebrity have any more insight than your next door neighbor? Having notoriety from acting in a sit-com does not mean you have any insight into how the U.S. economy works.
As for Alexander disavowing his wealth - I'll believe it when he gives it away. With these celebs, it's always 'those other greedy folks have too much, but I'm one of you'. Yep, gimme a break!
I'd love to know what Jason Alexander's tax rate is, and how many tax loopholes he's taking advantage of. I also wonder if he's contributing as much of his income percentage-wise to charity as Romney is. People who complain about Romney's rates and "hiding money in the Caymans" are hypocrites. If you're writing off your mortgage interest, taking your child deductions, writing off charitable giving, etc.... then you're doing the same thing Romney is: trying to keep as much of YOUR money as possible and send the least amount possible to be wasted by the federal government.

Mittens' magnanimous charity is directed primarily toward the Mormon Church. So one could validly say that he is not benefiting large groups of those in dire need, he is furthering the cause of Mormonism. Period. I for one sharply differentiate that type of "charitable" giving from oh, let's say the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation??!! How many hundreds of millions of destitute and needy children have they aided so far, and they're only just scratching the surface! Facts and priorities, my friend, facts and priorities!
That's great Bill Gates is giving money to needy children. I also hope he's taking advantage of every tax loophole he can -- and I'm sure his team of accountants takes very good care of his taxes. My point is Romney earned his money and now he should be able to keep as much of it as legally allowed. The man isn't breaking any laws by being tax savvy. I want my President to be successful, smart and charitable. I want a President who gives personally from his own money to the causes he believes in -- not use the power of the government to FORCE me to pay for things I don't believe in.

The population growth in America is rising significantly. From 1920 to 1970, population grew by 100 million over a span of 50 years. From 2000 to August 2012, it grew by 33 million to 314.159 and still growing at a faster rate.
That is not including the alleged 12 million undocumented if not mistaken.

Agree, thinking how we can do better enables us to do things differently, that is progressive thinking in the work place. That is how we start to improve efficiency.
The question is how you measure efficiency with all these governmental agencies in Washington. Can congress fathom what each agency does in deep detail and have the courage to combine, eliminate duplicates. NO
Here is a simple example. H1-B allows companies to bring in foreign skilled workers. With high unemployment, congress wants to increase quota allowed instead of suspending the program or lowering the quota. What are they thinking ? This is a no brainer logic.
As for overpopulation, that is because of our elites in DC!
The Federal government has their noses stuck in more things in the whole world, than they were supposed to have. They're in our bedrooms, our kitchens, our vehicles, our health care, and every country in the world gets our hard earned tax dollars.
