Seinfeld actor stumps for his 'man-crush' as early voting begins in Iowa

ADEL, Iowa -- A pizzeria in this small city west of Des Moines was the setting for a celebrity visit Thursday from an actor once famous for talking about nothing.

But these days, Jason Alexander -- who played George Costanza on the TV series "Seinfeld" -- is a surrogate for Barack Obama, and he insists he has a lot on his mind.

"I am hardcore middle class.  And I stepped in a puddle.  And that puddle was called, 'Seinfeld,'" Alexander told about 50 supporters of the president.  He said the job put him in the upper echelons of society.

"I do not want to live in that 1-percent.  I don't believe in it," he continued.  "I don't think our country, or any country, runs well when the 1-percent is thriving and the rest are suffering and struggling."

The supporters were gathered to listen to Alexander and then walk to a nearby elections office to cast early votes for President Obama -- just one of a number of statewide events marking the start of early voting Thursday in Iowa.

Alexander told the crowd he has a "man-crush" on Obama, who he said he has met several times.

Later, in an interview with NBC News, Alexander praised Obama as a man of "conviction" and "principle," though he allowed that such lofty considerations would be beyond the reach of the man he played on television during the 1990's.

"George would probably think he was the only savior for this entire race.  He would step forward as a write-in candidate," Alexander said.

Both campaigns seem to be hoping their supporters will step forward, too -- and stick to the script.

In downtown Des Moines earlier Thursday, officials said foot traffic at the elections office had reached about 250 people by late morning -- more than double the first day of early voting in 2008.

"This was by far the busiest opening day we’ve had in the ten years I’ve been in the office," said Jamie Fitzgerald, the commissioner of elections in Polk County.

An Obama campaign volunteer waiting to vote there, Kathy Stuart, said the campaign made a push to gather supporters.

"They were trying to get people to come to breakfast, and then come to vote early," she said.  "They were really interested in getting as many voters to the polls as possible."
Iowa Republicans also threw events Thursday focused on early voting.

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas rallied Mitt Romney supporters in Cedar Rapids, and Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad held a conference call with volunteers Thursday evening.

This push for early votes is a testament to the leadership qualities of our President. Something lacking in Romney. California hasn't started yet but we will soon. Most Northern California Obama supporters, like me, are helping out with Nevada. I bet Southern California is helpng with both Nevada and Arizona. People are still excited for four more years. Things are looking up. Obama/Biden 2012. Hillary 2016.

Thank you Jason. So glad to have you out there with us supporting our president.

And then there's George:

I'm unemployed and I live with my parents.

The Yankee players should be wearing cotton uniforms.

I'll say I'm an architect. I always wanted to be an architect.

Twix - the only candy with the cookie crunch.

You had sex with the cleaning woman.

George: Was that wrong?

btw, I saw an article today where Michael Richards (Kramer) would like to be forgiven for his routine a few years ago. I think everybody deserves a second chance and Mr. Richards deserves a second chance.

Remember the Merv Griffin set? OMG was that funny. There's an interview out there on youtube with Julia talking about that show, and she can barely talk she is laughing so hard as she relays what Kramer does during the commercial break. As you watch it, you can see George trying not to laugh.

Funniest Seinfeld show ever - The Raincoats/Schindler's List, 2 parts. I loved Jerry's father and you put him together with Kramer and it's pure magic.

Seinfeld. Funniest show ever on tv. The entire cast was so GD funny.

The Merv Griffin set was one of the most hysterical shows EVER! It's kinda hard to choose a favorite. I can remember watching the show with my parents and my brothers and sister and all seven of us would be laughing so hard that tears would be flowing down our cheeks and my mom almost always nearly peed her pants! Those are some special times that I remember. Funny, just a show, but oh what a show it was. My brothers and sister and I still recite lines from that show to this day!

I just read back through your Georgie quotes and I can hear him saying them and I am sitting here laughing all over again! Georgie's parents used to make me choke I would laugh so hard at them!

YES! I loved Puddy! Thanks for the clip! Do you remember when Elaine bought up all the Sponges and she had to decide if a man was "sponge worthy"! Classic!

Oh, don't forget about the "man bra"!! Remember the look on all their faces when Jerry opens the door and Kramer and George's father are standing there with the man bra on Mr. Costanza?! Hysterical!

The more I see what is transpiring in this campaign the more I'm convinced that this election is going to be about character. Period.

Every single day we spend most of our time undoing the lies Romney and Ryan throw out there. They lie constantly about President Obama because they can't get him on anything damaging. So they lie.

And as we have seen, that is not the case with Romney. We don't have to lie. We are using his own words and actions.

People genuinely like and trust our president. People genuinely believe he is in our corner. That's all anyone wants in a president when you think about it. He inspires us to work harder toward a better, more fairer democracy.

Romney possess none of these attributes.

Whoa, J.C.! Calm down, dude! Your outrage is running down your leg! A private individual has offered a personal opinion and you've responded by throwing a hissy fit of epic proportions, but it is really necessary? I mean, your side has its own celebrities offering their well reasoned and thoughtful opinions, such as Clint Eastwood having a full blown argument with unoccupied furniture, Chuck Norris doing his apocalyptic end-times thing, and Nicki Minaj, who is a well known singer famous for this bit of popular entertainment:

So, do you really want to bust on poor old George simply because he expressed a personal point of view? Really, J.C.?

As funny as George Costanza was, I still think the funniest part of this article is the mention of people stumping for Romney.

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas rallied Mitt Romney supporters in Cedar Rapids

LOL! You know your campaign is in trouble when you have to import Senators from Texas to campaign for you in Iowa. What does a woman that was born, raised, educated, and employed in TX really know about Iowa voters anyways? At least Jason Alexander is famous!

J.C.

I can tell that you're not a member of the 1% club or have ever spent much time in their company. I share Jason's sentiment about not wanting to "be in that 1%. I don't believe in it."

I'm also a member of the 1% club, and I prefer the company of middle class folks to that of the 1% club any day. I understand the difference between earning enough money to be included in the highest 1% of income earners and the attitudes that are embodied by the Romney's of the world. Usually the difference boils down to inherited wealth vs. earned wealth. I'm of the latter category, and thus my love is for the struggle it takes to get there, and not the struggle it takes to stay there. I could go back to being poor tomorrow, and still appreciate life, but the Romney's of the world really never lived outside their comfort zone, so living a middle or low income life scares the hell out of them. Romney can't relate to the average person because he's never wanted to, until now, but he's faking it the best he can, and he's not doing a very good job of it.

The best people I know don't judge their accomplishments in life by adding up their net-worth, but by the way they've lived their lives and the respect they've earned from others.

Join me in hating on that evil Romney, for he has $100 milliion and I only have $75 million. It isn’t fair I tell you and he needs to pay his fair share! Yes, I could give all my money away and be like all of you, but I don't really want to. Yes, I could give half my money away and still be a 1%er, but Romney’s about to get a car elevator and now I will be forced to keep up. So in the name of fairness, I keep my money and speak these words to you instead. Uuuh! The difficulties I face every day! The sacrifices I suffer for all you little people.

    Couple of random thoughts:

    - Jason ALexandar and his wealth is differnet than ROmeny's. If one were to complare JA's taxes from when he was on Seinfeld to Romenys the difference in tax rate would be abvious - JA's income was from earnings taxed at a higher rate than Romneys from interest and investment.

    - Romney has never been anything but in the 1%, I am pretty sure Alexander started in the middle like the rest of us.

    - ROmeny believes middle class starts with earnings around $250,000 which means a whole lot of us who thought we were middle class aren't.

    - Most people who have worked for their wealth consider themselves middle class.

you don't have a clue what 1% means, do you? It became an adjective. It describes those who live in this country, make money in this great country, benefit from this great country's opportunities and WANT TO GIVE AS LITTLE BACK IN RETURN. Actually, like Romney, they would love to give even less.

The "1%" has nothing to do with how much you make but all to do with how little you want to give back.

Tell me, would the 1% be able to make what they make in Somalia? Or Nigeria? or Turkey? Since they are bitchin' about how much they have to pay in taxes, why won't they get the f*ck out of here and let others, who are willing to contribute back, take their place.

Watergate, throwing one of her main Bollywood campaign supporters under the bus, having a Chief of Staff who has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and

    Leroy Brown & Anabanana....

I'd agree that Hillary has an excellent shot at winning in 2016, as long as President Obama doesn't pull a "Lewinski" in his next 4 years in office. GW and the GOP have done more than enough damage to lose the next 3 elections, but a lot rests on the job Obama does and the candidate the Republicans nominate in 2016. So far they look determined to run as the party of stupid for the foreseeable future, but the American public is fickle when it comes to politics. To your point Ana, I think Obama beat Clinton in 08' because he was seen as a candidate that believed in compromise and wanted to work with Republicans to fix the mess they created, and Hillary was seen as too divisive at the time. Given the last 3.5 years, I think most people now prefer a Democrat that can stand up the GOP bullies, and also a woman with a very well rounded resume of experience at the highest levels of government. Things are really looking good for her in 2016, and she has shown great maturity and savvy as Secretary of State. I know I'm pulling for her in 2016!

    Ido....

You're ignorance is beyond compare, and it's good to see that when you commit to stupid, you are willing to go all the way.

Hillary ran too soon, there was a certain level of Clinton fatigue due to the right wing nut jobs hounding them the whole time they were in office.

She came very close to winning.

I did not support her the last time because I did not feel it was in the country's best interest to hand down the Presidency through a family as though it were a right. I still feel that way. But, if she is the candidate the next time, and becomes the nominee, I will support her.

As far as how the "rookie" is doing? Your President pulled the country back from an economic precipice. Only those blinded by the right refuse to admit that. He is doing great, I support his re election without hesitation.

Hillary on 2016? Are you serious? I'll have some of whatever it is you had. Anyway back to Hill-of-beans, she was far and away more qualified than Odumbo could ever dream of being, so why did the DNC throw her under the bus? Why do you think they'll treat her any better 4 years from now? Furthermore, whether you want to admit it or not, not only do you need to have a message and a vision that resonates with the voters, BUT you have to "Look" good. Hillary doesn't look good now, in 4 more years, I can only imagine. Not that she was ever that attractive to begin with, time has not been kind to her.

That reminds me:  Did everyone hear about the newest right-wing conspiracy theory?  Inside the bubble self-delusion on a new scale.

Conservative activist circles are abuzz with a new conspiracy theory: Polls showing President Obama with a growing lead over Mitt Romney are deliberately being skewed by the Liberal Mainstream Media so Republicans will be disheartened and stay home on Election Day.

This is denial and self-delusion but not of the harmless kind. It’s a false narrative that encourages the Republican Party to take the wrong lessons from this election, no matter the outcome.

Allow me to try and explain a concept to you. If the Federal Government was smaller, like it was intended, and the real power was in the State and local government, then we wouldn't have such a division ripping our country apart. People on the fringes of the left/right debate want the government to have the power to make their eutopias reality, but can't stand the thought of the other party getting power. If the Fed Gov was smaller, as intended, it wouldn't matter who or which party won the election, they wouldn't have much power to change anything. Regardless of what the media has thrown at you, the Tea Party simply wants a fairer tax (which by the way is higher than 14%) and the Fed Gov returned to its proper level of power. You would be free to move to WHICHEVER of the 50 states has a economic and/or political system you prefer. No need to force the entire country to share your views. So, I tried to explain it, reasonably, intellgently and accurately, now it's time for those who worship the parties to start trouncing me.

Stunned - WHICH Tea Party? There are more "brands" of 'tea' in most states than the real thing I pour into my cuppa...

You sound like a moderate brew, slightly sweet with a gold color perhaps and well intending. Opposite of a neigbour of mine who identifies himself as 'devout tea' (whatever that means). I would describe him more as a definitely strong white tea, never black, never sweet and wants the whole government to 'collapse' or "shut down" every time there is a vote on anything, even if it isn't important. "Govt is the root of all evil" among other interesting phrases comes out of his mouth constantly. Supports the Montana Freeman as well as (quote) any other '"armed-against-the-gov"' group though I'm not sure what he means by that. He seems rather anarchical to me.

Ergo, the concept of one person trying to state what one small faction of what an umbrella organisation really wants, in simplicity, is like saying that there was only one faction of actors or political controllers under the umbrella of the entire PLO.

I appreciate that YOUR variety of tea doesn't impress on his neighbours (while fondling his HK 91 in my bleeding front yard) that everyone needs to think like he does in order to "save the country". I can also appreciate that you take the time to express your teaparty view on Federal Gov in terms that are easy to read and that you make your veiwpoint understandable - even if I might disagree with your logic.

I'll end by stating that I wished that YOU lived nextdoor to me instead of Ted. IF you did, then perhaps my views on undrinkable tea wouldn't be so... unpalatable.

But did the government create the show Seinfeld and hire Alexander to star in it so he could move from middle class to "the upper echelons of society". Or did he just happen to interview (audition) for a job that led to the job performances that led to the show's success (high ratings and profit for the network) that led to larger paychecks without government assistance? It would be more logical for the second scenario to be the correct one. And wouldn't it also be logical to classify the network executives who paid the Alexander the money to "move up the echelons of society" as being part of the 1%? So to review Alexander was HIRED by 1%er's to perform on a TV show that brought him success. I wonder how many auditions (job interviews) he went to before he was hired for Seinfeld. I'm betting thousands. I'm also betting if he wasn't hired for Seinfeld, he probably would have continued auditioning for other jobs and he wouldn't have quit looking for work.

According to Obama and apparently half of this country, the 1% are evil. Never mind that without them, there would be no jobs. Oh yeah, Obama wants all the jobs to be provided by the government.

The entire SEINFELD show which was ostensibly a show about nothing was in fact a rant against democracy, human rights, equal pay for women, and a host of sexual skits which showed women to be intellectually inferior.

Recall the 'cleaning woman ' who was actually a paid lover (prostitute) ? The steamy scenes with Seinfeld in bed with a woman whom he has just met ? And George leaving condom wrappers in his parent s bed. Urinating in the shower?

And Newman that fat slovenly scum sucking government employee who never had a decent thought, and Kramer aaah yes, Kramer, the fellow who never left the building except in the company of his fellow hangers on's and who as far as anyone knew never had a job.

But these misfits appealed to the great American audience because they were the idols of the Great American Audience.

No work by Seinfeld ? Is telling jokes work

George, bald, lives at home and is basically unemployable is a great role model ? And Elaine ? She was the most slept around woman in TV history.

            Need I say more ?

Naaah the Seinfeld show was a full monte for the down grading of TV standards and of the morality of America.

Believe me I saw the result with the election of an unqualified , deified, boy to the White House. There can be no greater accomplishment by TV than downgrading the moral stature of America and allowing the lesser moral person a victory.

Maybe we have presided over the demise of the greatest Republic ever ?

            Let's hope not.

I wonder how high the national deficit will be after another 4 years of Obama. It's too bad the Republicans couldn't put a better candidate up against Obama who is clearly a failure of a President. We are going to have to borrow trillions more to fund Obamacare and all the other entitlement programs the dems are promising. Of course, they won't try to fix social security or medicare so they will be broke in 10-15 years. This country is headed for Greece economics. You can tax the rich as much as you want. With close to 50% of this country on entitlements not paying taxes this borrowing is unsustainable. It's just pure mathematics.

I wonder what the national deficit will be with the likes of Ryan in the number 2 spot. I mean he voted for two unfunded wars, unfunded Medicare Part D, the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, and the Bush tax cuts. There's no greater illusion than the math of the Conservatives. They'll also tell you they're job creators and that "Trickle Down Economics" really works. I'm still waiting for the jobs they promised during the 2010 mid-terms while my experience is that socialized bailouts, TBTF, and TARP, is just more of my declining income exploding upward. If Obama didn't bring down unemployment fast enough into the mid-terms what are the Republican's excuse for not creating any in the two years since 2010?

tjohn: R's not creating jobs since 2010? simple, a Senate that won't bring their bills to a vote, and a President who probably wouldn't sign them anyway. Nothing will change until 1 party seizes power. And that is the end of the USA when 1 party seizes power. Parties used to work with other on major issues and minor ones required a slight majority, now it is all or nothing. We have had 6 years of nothing.

By the way, simple question, if we didn't have the money to fund 2 wars, how did we suddenly have the money to afford a stimulus and healthcare?

Blindly believeing 1 party has all the answers is what will rip this country in 2.

Lloys S - Try to explain math to the Liberals, and you get the literary equivalent of a glassy-eyed stare. Here, watch:

The total workforce is 155 million. The average unemployment rate under Bush was 5%. Multiply those two numbers and you get an average of 7,750,000 workers who were unemployed.

Similarly, the average unemployment rate under Obama was 9% which translates to 13,950,000 unemployed workers.

That means that an average of 6 million fewer workers were employed under Obama than under Bush. I'm sure these simple facts will incite all the usual left-wing sound bites, remarks taken out of context, "clever" misspellings, childish name-calling, and outright lies; but these facts will remain undeniably true.

Actually, there are presently more Americans working now under Obama than when Bush left office. We have a net job gain under Obama since Bush left. "Average unemployment rate" is irrelevant, when the rate started low and soared under Bush. "Average" has no meaning within the context of the economy. If you disagree and think that "average" of eight years is important, please explain how.

When Bush left office we were LOSING 750,000 jobs a month. Under Obama, however:

Republicans may soon lose a key talking point. According to data released Thursday, President Obama may now be a net job creator.

In the year following Obama's inauguration, the U.S. economy lost about 4.3 million jobs. But new figures released Thursday show 4.4 million jobs have been added back since then.

              ...

If true, those figures mean the economy has recovered 4.4 million jobs since early 2010 -- enough to fully account for the jobs lost in Obama's first term. In fact, Obama would be ahead by exactly 125,000 jobs.

the rate started low and soared under Bush.

              Not true Clotho.

During most of the Bush years, unemployment was in steady decline, averaging 5%. When the Democrats took over Congress in 2006, the decline was first halted and then reversed. After Obama's failed "stimulus", unemployment rose even more, and stayed above 8% for the last 43 months (BTW, that is longer than under any other administration since the Bureau of Labor Statistics started measuring the monthly jobless rate).

Romney has grown companies that were on the brink of failure to create hundreds of thousands of new US jobs. As head of the Executive Branch he will be able to guide the economy toward that same kind of recovery.

And average rate is the most significant from the human point of view. Which would you prefer: five years without a job and then finding one in the sixth, or being unemployed for only one year out of six?

President Obama is a disciple of no one other than Christ Jesus. But Paul Ryan is a disciple of Ayn Rand, an atheist writer who has no concern for the poor but lots of empathy for the wealthy. Ryan really demonstrates how terrible the GOP acted in the House. They have spent most of their time worrying about womens rights and against birth control. These republican politicians have been the most horrible and disappointing Congress in decades. They are only in session a couple of days and then off for another long vacation. There is important work that needs to be done, but they just don't seem to care in the least.

And Newman that fat slovenly scum sucking government employee who never had a decent thought, and Kramer aaah yes, Kramer, the fellow who never left the building except in the company of his fellow hangers ons and who as far as anyone knew never had a job.

              Let's hope not.

you have a problem repeating yourself? no need to post the same thing twice

morals change, and probably for the better as society becomes more accepting and tolerant of others beliefs, although we still have a long way to go.

I never thought Seingfeld was very funny, Family Guy on the other hand is hilarious! But remember this is fiction, and in the end, even in these shows of declining morals as you would put it, the good guy still prevails.

Also, turn off the bold's your highness , it's obvious you think your comments are better than everyone elses and want them to stand out.

The only 'influence' Jason (George) would have is on unsuspecting females who are love starved and do not care if the dude is bald, poor, lives with mom and has no income. But has a strong sexual aroma.

Jason whether anyone realized it was an extension of one of the shows producers. he later appeared in a show which bore his name.

An ego trip for him and an all out attack on Jews everywhere. That is what some Jews do and they also foolishly vote for any damn fool democat who is on the ballot despite the tragic deceptions the demcocat pull on them. Just a clear comment for the wary.

I don’t mean to be totally partisan here but is Jason Alexander’s character the example of the President’s supporters? Unemployed and living with his parents, shuffling through life with no real ambition.

Jason Alexander himself – with a net worth of $75 million considers himself hard core middle class. Well, at least he admits under President Obama, people are still struggling and suffering. While everyone is gleeful about the performance of their 401k's, at least he's a little humbled about his success.

It is somewhat odd that his one major interest through which he contributes to the world good is an organization promoting peace between Israel and Palestine. The President hasn’t exactly made that a priority issue in his administration.

Another celebrity, whose success can be attributed to saying words others have written for him, supports our Celebrity in Chief.

Yes and they are really still struggling because of the GOP who has been against any and all help for the poor. Right now if republican states accept it like Governor Beebe of Arkansas every state can now get Medicaid benefits for their poor. Too many republicans like Jindal in Louisiana with one in four without health insurance refuses to take the Medicaid funds that are coming from the Affordable Care Act to help the least of our poor. I really have no use for the GOP against helping people that they hurt during the Bush administration and since.

Selma had no effect on your birth, as Selma was in 1965. (Google 'Obama Selma ' for his full
March 4, 2007 speech and articles about its various untruths.) ! !

                2.) Father Was A

who went on to work with the Kenyan Government.

                3.) Father Was A
Proud Freedom Fighter . - NOT
EXACTLY, he was part of one of the most corrupt and violent governments Kenya
                has ever had.

                4.) My Family Has
Strong Ties To African Freedom - NOT EXACTLY; your cousin Raila Odinga has
created mass violence in attempting to overturn a legitimate election in 2007,
in Kenya . It is the first widespread violence in decades. The current government is
pro-American but Odinga wants to overthrow it and establish Muslim Sharia law.
Your half-brother, Abongo Obama, is Odinga's follower.

                You interrupted
your New Hampshire campaigning to speak to Odinga on the phone. Check
out the following link for verification of

                that...and for
                more.

                Obama's cousin
Odinga in Kenya ran for president and tried to get Sharia Muslim law in place
there. When Odinga lost the elections, his followers have burned Christians'
homes and then burned men, women and children alive in a Christian church where
they took shelter... Obama SUPPORTED his cousin before the election process here
started. Google Obama and Odinga and see what you get. No one wants to know the
                truth.

                5.) My Grandmother

her to have been one of 14 wives to 1 man.

                6.)

EXACTLY, your name is Arabic and 'Baraka' (from which Barack came) means
'blessed' in that language. Hussein is also Arabic and so is Obama.

                Barack Hussein
Obama is not half black. He is the first Arab-American President, not the first
black President. Barack Hussein Obama is 50% Caucasian from his mother's side
and 43.75% Arabic and 6.25% African Negro from his father's side. While Barack
Hussein Obama's father was from Kenya , his father's family was mainly Arabs..
Barack Hussein Obama's father was only 12.5% African Negro and 87.5% Arab (his
                father's birth

got in trouble in Koranic Studies for making faces (check your own book).

                February 28, 2008.
Kristoff from the New York Times: Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the
Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent. In a remark that
seemed delightfully uncalculated (it'll give Alabama voters heart attacks), Mr. Obama described the
call to prayer as 'one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.' This is just
one example of what Pamela is talking about when she says 'Obama's narrative
isbeing altered, enhanced and manipulated to whitewash troubling facts.'

                9.) I Was Fluent

                12.) I
Blame My Early Drug Use On Ethnic
Confusion - NOT EXACTLY, you were quite content in high school to be Barry
Obama, no mention of Kenya and no mention of struggle to identify -

                your classmates
                said you were just fine

Sure Joe sometime mis speaks..But politically he is considered by both republican and democrats as an effective politician throughout the yrs he has served our country..

Romney,I don't recall Willard serving in Nam even though he back the draft and the war..I believe they found a picture of Willard lounging on a French beach during the war..What you say,Ditto Heads...

Have any of Willard's five sons served in the military?

Funny..no one recalls Obama choosing to serve in the military . His choice to make.

Plenty of Democrat Politicians avoided the draft through deferments and gaming the system shenannigans.

Mitt's sons chose not to serve ? Thier choice .....The whole Freewill thing and all being they are adults.
