Polls: Obama leads in N.H., tighter in Nev., N.C.

President Barack Obama leads Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney in New Hampshire, and the two are locked in tight contests in Nevada and North Carolina, according to a new series of NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist polls released Thursday.

Obama is ahead of Romney, 51 percent to 44 percent, among likely voters in New Hampshire. He also edges Romney in Nevada and North Carolina, but within the margin of error.

In Nevada, Obama gets the support of 49 percent of likely voters and Romney gets 47 percent. In North Carolina, it’s Obama at 48 percent and Romney at 46 percent. (Among registered voters in all three states, Obama’s lead expands to 8 points in New Hampshire, 4 points in North Carolina, and a wider 7 points in Nevada.)

Poll results: New Hampshire, Nevada, North Carolina (PDFs)

“New Hampshire seems to be following the similar trends we’re seeing elsewhere,” said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, of the race in the Granite State, where Romney owns a home, and which borders Massachusetts, where the GOP nominee served a term as governor.

Over the past three weeks, NBC and Marist have released polls of nine battleground states – Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, and Wisconsin – and all show Obama with leads, ranging from 2 to 8 points.

President Barack Obama speaks during a campaign rally at the Farm Bureau Live arena, on September 27, 2012 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

The results come after a difficult one-month stretch for the Republican challenger – there was the Republican National Convention, his response to the outbreak of violence in Egypt and Libya, the revelation of a secretly-recorded videotape showing him dismissing 47 percent of the country as “victims, ” and the release of his 2011 tax returns showing he paid a 14.1 percent effective rate in 2011.

“What Romney needs is to have a broader shift thorough the electorate,” Miringoff said, “because the pattern state by state, with some variation, is that Obama has gotten to 50, or in the high 40s. So, there’s a gap in these states that has emerged … Romney has to change the numbers in most, if not all, of these states.”

Obama’s leads in each of the states are fueled by voters’ improved feelings about the direction of the country, Obama’s handling of the economy, and Romney’s continued struggles with likability.

As the presidential candidates zeroed in on Virginia, GOP contender Mitt Romney focused on the state's military ties while President Obama emphasized tax hikes on the wealthy and more government spending. NBC's Chuck Todd reports.

There also continues to be a gender gap, with Obama leading with women by 20 points in New Hampshire, 16 points in North Carolina, and 11 points in Nevada.

Obama is also close to his levels with white voters from 2008 in each of these states. And though there is a drop in the likelihood that young voters will turn out with the same force they had in 2008, Obama makes up for it with continued robust support from minority voters.

Approval, favorability, direction of the country
The president’s approval rating in New Hampshire is at 50 percent, up from 47 percent in June. In North Carolina and Nevada, it’s 47 percent – unchanged in North Carolina and up a point in Nevada.

President Barack Obama still faces two more monthly jobs reports before Election Day and continued unrest in the overseas markets but the latest NBC News/WSJ poll indicates a big bump up in the number of people who feel the country is headed in the right direction. Steve Rattner joins Andrea Mitchell Reports to discuss.

Obama is viewed more favorably in all three states than Romney. In New Hampshire, a state where Romney’s a known commodity and campaigned heavily during the Republican primary, 52 percent had an unfavorable opinion of him.

In Nevada, Romney is seen negatively by almost a majority of respondents (48 percent), while 45 percent of the state’s voters viewed him favorably.

Romney’s favorability rating was net-positive only in North Carolina, though opinion on the former Massachusetts governor was nearly split. Romney’s favorable score was 46 percent; 45 percent viewed him negatively.

“It speaks to the campaign strategy, which is playing with limited success of trying to raise his likability,” Miringoff said, citing the convention, Romney’s comments that health care reflects why he is empathetic, as well as his campaign ad speaking directly to camera in which he notes that he, like the president, cares about the poor and middle class.

Mitt Romney holds a campaign event with veterans in Springfield, Virginia.

“They’re trying to address that likability factor,” Miringoff continued, adding, “But with Obama in high 40s, 50s [in approval], that suggests that you have to be more than just the ‘other guy,’ and he really hasn’t been able to do that.”

In all three states, voters’ views of the direction of the country had improved, nowhere more than New Hampshire. The gap between wrong track and right direction back in June was 20 points. Now, it’s just 7 points.

In North Carolina, there was a 4-point improvement, and just 2 points in Nevada. Nevada is still suffering from the highest unemployment in the country at 12.1 percent and its home foreclosure rate is one of the highest in the nation.

In New Hampshire, voters also shifted on their views of who would be better to handle the economy. In June, Romney was favored by 4 points.  Now, that’s reversed. In Nevada and North Carolina, voters continue to be split on the question of which candidate would better manage the economy.

Obama retains an advantage on foreign policy in all three states.

Whites, youth, minority voters
In all three states, Obama’s support among white voters and young voters is down from his 2008 bid for the presidency, though the impact might be washed out by persistent support for Obama among minority communities.

Obama gets the support of 51 percent of white voters in New Hampshire, a state that is overwhelmingly white, and where Obama won 54 percent of the white vote in 2008.

White support for Obama is also down slightly in North Carolina, Obama got 35 percent of whites four years ago; now he’s at 33 percent.

And in Nevada, Obama is just 4 points off from the 45 percent share of the white vote he won in 2008.

“He’s getting close to the share of what he got” among whites in 2008, Miringoff said.

But posing a problem for Obama is that young voters’ enthusiasm has fallen off – and are less likely to turn out the way they did in 2008.

“That huge turnout among young people last time isn’t there right now,” Miringoff said.

But the president makes up for it with continued robust support from minority voters. Obama leads 95 percent to 3 percent among black voters in North Carolina, a state where African Americans comprised 23 percent of all voters in 2008.

In Nevada, where Latinos made up 15 percent of the electorate (but 27 percent of the population), Obama has a 62 percent to 36 percent advantage over Romney. That’s narrower than the 76 percent to 22 percent margin Obama won in 2008, but he won the state by 12 points last time, a significant cushion.

Additionally, there has been growth among Hispanics particularly in the Southwest, and they could make up a larger percentage of the vote in 2012. For example, in 2010, a year that favored Republicans, Hispanic voters made up 16 percent of the electorate, a larger share than in 2008.

Obama’s challenge in the state will be with independents and getting out the vote in Clark County, which is anchored by Las Vegas. He won independents in 2008 by 13 points. Now, Romney leads by 12 percent. Among registered voters in Clark County, Obama had a 7-point advantage. But among likely voters, that dropped to just 2 points.

In 2008, Obama won the state’s most populous county – which cast almost two-thirds of all votes – by almost 20 points. Democrat John Kerry, who narrowly lost the state to George W. Bush in 2004, won it by 5.

Romney also leads among independents in North Carolina by 9 points, but that is a far smaller than the 21-point margin by which John McCain won that group.

The NBC News/Marist/Wall Street Journal polls were conducted Sept. 23-25 and have a margin of error of +/- 3.1 percent for the sample of likely voters in each state.

Remember the five stages; denial, anger, bargaining, depression and (finally)

Not to put a damper on the party, but that sound you hear in the background is the Koch Brothers rigging the black boxes. I'm sure it's become painfully obvious to them that the millions they blew on negative campaign ads and voter suppression aren't going to be enough to float their turd of a ticket.

The new rightwing nutjob spin:

It's a trick by the mainstream media to loudly proclaim distorted polls. See, the polls aren't real polls, they are just using bad info to create false polls.

Funny, when the polls showed a virtual tie just a few months ago, not one nutjob said the polls were bad.

In the republicon realty world, you must wear reality bubble glasses so that you can clearly see that facts are not facts.

It feels like people finally opened the window to air out all the lies Mitt and Co. have been spewing out for the last year. People are also seeing that Congress is one of the main reasons the economy has been sluggish and blame the do-nothing Tea Baggers for it.

It now seems a majority of people now exist blaming the Republicans for it.

Here's what we need to do to fix the economy which both republicans and democrats won't do because they are both corrupt parties: Bring the gold standard back to the dollar, legalize weed, build a large fence at the border of Mexico, deport ALL illegals, get rid of the Penny and make it illegal for huge corporations like wal-mart to get so large. There you go. Will you people ever wake up and realize your government is CORRUPT?

If Obama wins, we are ALL in a mess. Careful what you wish for, Obama is to the US, what the pipes were to the Roman's. Slow deliberate demise.

The fact that you haven't moved beyond the "IF" stage shows just how much trouble your party has with reality; Barack Obama IS going to win a second term. He will do so because he offers the clearest vision, speaks with wisdom and humility, and he's got four more years experience as POTUS than Mitt Romney has. Oh, and he hasn't written off half the country. That's pretty important too.

I am also taken by the word you chose, "deliberate". It is absolute lunacy for your party to think, imply, imagine, hope, dream, fantasize or feel that this president and the Democratic party are causing the demise of this country with deliberate intent. That's garbage, just like everything else your far-right party stands for these days. I believe the president's name you're looking for, if you're searching for a president who didn't seem to give a @!$%# about anyone or anything during the last couple of years of his presidency, was G.W. BUSH.

And yes, if you can call up Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter, damn straight I'm going to bring up your disaster of a president in Bush. It wasn't even four years ago!

I can see them coming like a freight train, the usual suspects with the whole "MSDNC oversamples Democrats" and the "look at the Rasmussen polls" comments.

First, I would like to preemptively invite them all to bookmark and give a daily read to Nate Silver's fabulous FiveThirtyEight blog, which not only compiles information from ALL relevant pollsters (Rasmussen included) but also presents relevant, insightful analyses and has been lauded as one of the most accurate predictors for U.S. elections. As it is, Silver gives Obama a higher-than-80% chance of winning the election, and this accounts for uncertainty regarding future economic news. If the election were today, Silver would give Obama a 96% probability of winning.

Second, before you start lecturing us on how Rasmussen is the most accurate pollster out there, understand something: it is not. Its record is not as spotless as some might want to think it is; while they were pretty spot on in 2008, they were among the pollsters that overestimated Republican gains the most. As it is right now, it is an outlier, and any statistician would warn you not to make your bets based on what outliers say. And there's good reason for why Rasmussen is an outlier and will progressively be even more so in the future: because of its outdated methodology. They call landlines from 5 to 9 pm on weeknights. Now, who's more likely to even have a landline phone -- a married, retired couple (two demographics strongly leaning Romney) or a single, young worker (two demographics strongly leaning Obama)?

Give 538 a try, Republicans. Take a look at it and see what it is about their methodology (not the fact that it is run by the NY Times — to discard their data based on that would constitute a fallacy) that bothers you. Unlike Rasmussen, 538 doesn't have a track record of systematically favoring one party (if anything, the only state they didn't accurately predict in 2008 was Indiana -- they thought it would go to McCain).

Committed Hundreds of war crimes.

Signed the Patriot act into law (even though it's unconstitutional and complete BS!)

Raised the hell out of the national debt.

So repubs don't know, what they don't know. And..they admit they don't know , what they don't know, that they don't know. How can they don't know, what they don't know about what they don't know? The moderator will ask a question ..."Governor Romney , how many jobs have you outsourced in your life time.?" Romney will answer..."Which one of us Romneys are you talking to? The Romney that actually did outsource jobs, the one who denies he outsourced jobs, or the one who said he did both!"

The debate will be then remade into movie remake of the 1957 film, "The Three Faces of Eve." Called "The Three Faces of Mitt", starring Mitt Romney, Mitt Romney, and Mitt Romney!"

@ Kevin

American households fell $1,413, or 2.6 percent. From the end of the recession to the present day, it has dropped $3,040, or 5.7 percent. This begs the question: What kind of “recovery” compares unfavorably with the recession from which it’s ostensibly recovering?

The recovery is slow, but there is still recovery. Many things we did to bail corporations and banks out are not allowed to be repeated ever. We all have had to bite the bullet in the past few years. What this fails to mention is that Americans have lessened their debts, and have tightened their belts. I am willing to bet the sacrifices for each active family averaged out to this 3,000 lost to equal it out. We have became more fiscally responsible. This is called adapt and overcome.

What kind of “recovery” compares unfavorably with the recession from which it’s ostensibly recovering?

It does'nt forward is forward. Lets keep moving forward.

VoMitt Romney is facing the LOSER LABEL all the money he has, the Restore Our Future Super PAC, millions in advertisements, and all the help he’s receiving from the GOP establishment.

As Politico wrote, Romney is fighting the “loser” label

“Usually, once a politician takes on an aroma of hopelessness he keeps it. Bob Dole in 1996 limped to his nomination with few people expecting he would make a real race of it against Clinton, and he never did.”

Yes, in 2008, John McCain lost several primary contests. And so did Obama. But the competition they faced was MUCH stronger than what Romney faced in the GOP primaries.

As Romney limps toward the finish line, the question becomes HOW BAD WILL VoMitt LOSE?

Any one could figure he's up in the polls when the polls are packed with democrat respondents. In the end the only poll that counts is the one on Nov 7th. Till then, as always, polls are as good as the paper they are written on.

Independent Thought

Rick's Real: The polls do look strong for Obama. It is simply amazing how this nation trusts a man with dangerous allegiances, and no ability to manage a checkbook, nor lead. By the way, I am not far right, just have an opinion different than yours.

I do not pretend to know the difference between football teams, players, coaches, stats and winning/losing seasons. I don't follow sports. Instead, I follow politics with the same passion that many follow sports, and have done so religiously for nearly four decades. I have found most "independents" I know to be the arm chair quarterback who don't follow politics closely, or don't get involved until the last minute. You've told me what amazes you. You know what amazes me? That the Tea Party gained any power at all, let alone the kind of power which has paralyzed our country for the past four years.

With great power comes great responsibility, and the Republican Tea Party has shown an inability to take or hold any kind of responsibility whatsoever - unless responsible for filibustering, or bringing endless abortion and union-busting laws to the floor. You really think abortion and unions are the cause of this country's demise? Not corporate greed? Not banking deregulation? Not two costly unpaid-for wars? Give me a break.

VOTE A STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC TICKET THIS YEAR!!!!!

The Romney campaign is a meltdown of epic proportions. Less than a year ago, it was not a foregone conclusion that Obama would win a second term. And through most of the summer it was neck and neck. Now it looks like it's turning into a laugher. How cool is that?

Only trust a poll as far as you can throw a bus. Seriously, this article makes no mention of where they did their polling or who with. You can get different results depending on who you target. The polls will be completely different if you do one at Wal Mart and another at Macy's. Or how about two different polls, one in front of a Democrat convention and the other in front of a Republican one? Those would really be polarized. But they won't be that obvious, they'll target two sides but may remain longer at one side than the other to rig their results. So, polls to me don't hold much water.

This article also plays the photo favorite too, notice there are 4 pictures with President Obama in them and only 2 of Romney - a little bit of psych-warfare going on there! Then - who wants to see Romney's mug anyhow?!

Barack Hussein Obama was looking for a call girl.

He found three such girls in a local pub, a blonde, a
brunette and a redhead.

To the blonde he said,

'I am the President of the United
States
.
Now
how
much would it cost me to spend some time with
you?'

She replied, $200.'

To the
brunette he asked the same question.
Her reply was
$100.

He then asked the
redhead...

Her reply was,

'Mr. President, if you can get my skirt
up as high as my taxes,
my pants as low as my
wages,

Get that thing of yours as hard as the times we are living
in,
and keep it rising like the price of
gas,

Keep me warmer than it is in my apartment and
screw
me the way you have retirees,

Then it isn't going to cost you a damn cent !'

Nevada: Obama +3.8

New Hampshire: Obama +2.5

Notice how he is the POTUS and Romney is not. Who cares about their pics, I am concerned with their integrity and future goals for America. I do not want to go backwards. I would like to think that if they lose just half their gains from 2010 that would be enough to get the other half working with the president at least some because they would be trying to save their sorry A$$s. Their obstructionist reasoning of making President Obama a one term president would no longer exist. They wouldn't want to risk the fact they could lose the other half in the next mid-terms. They would run the risk of the republicans NEVER having power again for the next 75 years.

Ever Since Romney was the last strawman standing for the republicon party, has he shown any leadership over the republicons to do the right thing for the country? NOPE!

Did Romney try and help out the vets when repubs blocked the Vets job bill last week? NOPE!

Did Romney try and help American workers get American jobs back when repubs blocked the bill to remove tax breaks from companies who took jobs overseas? NOPE!

Did Romney try and help American workers get their jobs back when repubs blocked the bill that would give tax breaks to companies who would bring back the jobs to America? NOPE!

Did Romney try and help the first responders to 911 healthcare bill when repubs blocked and voted against that bill? NOPE!

Well hell you can see where this is going....so let's just stop right here. The strawman has shown no leadership whatsoever. NONE! He has done nothing for America but drain jobs away from hard working Americans. He wants to kill Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and the Post Office. Mitt wants to dismantle and sell off America to the highest bidder and run the money offshore to avoid paying taxes.

Amazing here that so many think Obama is doing a great job.

This is more about deserving a chance to finish what he started, to move forward, more than dropping accolades on Obama for a great job, or job well done. The question you must ask yourself is do we take a risk on someone new and risk going backwards, or continue to slowly but surely move forward as we are now.

Me personally I believe I wish to keep moving forward.

footnote; Many people are learning how Obamas health plans are actually helping and matching the new economy. eg Your adult child can saty on your insurance until 26 yrs old. This gives young adults trying to make it one less thing to worry about, also unfortunately kids are staying in the "nest" longer. In the long run if they get sick or hurt you and I are not stuck with the bill through indigent care.

I wish people could go back and read my posts from 2008. I said then that the elections are decided by the elite who pick our next president. I stated the paired Palin with McCain so when the results came out it would make sense that Obama won. I said way back then that the Republicans would put up some utter clown to run against Obama in 2012 so again, when Obama wins, it will make sense. America is no longer a government for the people and by the people. It is controlled by the corporations and they want the government to play a big act so absolutely nothing gets done that will benefit the American people. All the benefits go to the wealthy elites who control our government. Every once in a while they toss us a bone and allow us to quench our thirst from the drippings trickling down the walls of our dungeons. To me, it seems they are sending jobs overseas so that we become a third world country and our people will be willing to someday work for anything. We'll become a new nation of slave laborers and even our children will be working in the mines like they do in the Congo and die before the age of 16. It doesn't matter who's in office, bills that would be good for the majority are shot down while the wealthy receive better and newer tax breaks. Those tax breaks were supposed to be gone already, but they remain in place while we get to see a good act. So gnaw on your bone and lick the damp walls of your cell. We will see no changes in America until we force a change.

JM&J Robert D Clarkson!

why did it take over 2 weeks to admit that it was terrorist attack and rip romney when romney knew first?

Because the President investigates first. We as a country do NOT want someone who shoots first and investigates later. Our President is cautious and puts the people of this country FIRST!

why does he condemn romney for being rich when romney started with nothing and built his fortune with hardwork and obama used his real past to get free rides? why is his SSN number not from hawaii? why did he spend 4 Million to hide his past? why did it take 4 trys to get him to green light the mission to kill bin laden?

Where on earth to start? Let's start with free rides. The President had loans and scholarships.

You seriously have access to the President of the United States of America's Social Security Number??? Good he!! Is that that just the most moronic thing to say???

Four years for a green light to get a mission to kill bin laden??? Our President worked towards that since day one. Please ask anyone who had a loved one die on 9/11 and then get back to me.

You, sir, have no answers. You have FOX talking points and cannot open your eyes to see what is actually going on.

@Coral Taxi -"The question you must ask yourself is do we take a risk on someone new and risk going backwards, or continue to slowly but surely move forward as we are now".

Your views and opinions are appreciated, but remember Mr. Obama "was new" as well, and this country took a "risk". Obama's campaign used the slogan "Change we can believe in" and the chant "Yes We Can", and "Hope and change".

He has failed on all accounts. Yes we can? No we didn't. And now is his "Forward" chant. Most don't think so. This country can't afford to allow him to "finish" what he has started.

He is arrogant. He has designed a new flag that bears his campaign Logo and his picture on it.

Prior to this flag, the rule in American was: “The American flag shall never bear any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature,” according to U.S. flag code.” This rule was erased by President Obama.

This is the flag that our veterans fought and died for:

Motto: "In God we trust".

And, Mr. President, there are 50 states, not 57. "My fellow Americans in all 57 states, the time has changed for come". Barack Obama

It is not about America - it is about personal agenda.

Post 1.44

Actually these mixes are closer to the exit poll mix of party affiliations from 2008.

I didn't take the time to get the 2004 exit poll numbers, but should. 2008 saw twice the number of college students voting, and African Americans vote at about 10% higher than the norm. The problem with using this mix is so many polls taken show consistently that these two groups are not going to turn out as high this year, and that a higher percentage of the college vote is going to Romney.

Mitt earns the dubious honor of being the only presidential candidate in modern history to have his unfavorable ratings higher than his favorable ratings at this point in the campaign. As of earlier in September he was tracking 50 to 45 unfavorable to favorable. At least he can feel good about having brought up his favorable score from 29 late last year.

By contrast, John McCain was registering a 61 on the favorable scale at this point in 2008.

When your whole campaign is based on hate for the other candidate, all you have to do is seem "reasonable". Romney had been in that position and was doing quite well with it for a while now.

But given the actions of the Republican House and Senate leaders (and their resulting unpopularity) and the harsh and extreme tones coming from the newly elected Tea Party leaders, the electorate was "tolerant" but suspicious of the GOP and their real intent.

But Romney's string of gaffes, especially the 47% comment, pounded on that suspicion one too many times... and now the whole house of cards is falling... confirming it in spades.

And the debates? Romney has no where to go. Can you imagine the prep?... let's see now, we have to appear "caring" but still satisfy our Tea Party puppeteers... impossible.

Romney will lose by 15 points (minus disenfranchised voters) and will drag Congress with him... maybe even close to a Democratic House majority. Just watch. This meltdown and resulting swing will be fun to watch and hopefully, will translate to a productive 4 more years.

And you've apparently totally missed why the other guy won't be elected... is your hate for Obama that strong?

    Now who's the "idiot"?

Your views and opinions are appreciated, but remember Mr. Obama "was new" as well, and this country took a "risk".

Yes but Romney sounds like rehash, and I still have hope.

He is arrogant. He has designed a new flag that bears his campaign Logo and his picture on it.

What you consider "arrognace" I consider confidence. A president must keep a good face on through the worst of times, this is called being a leader.

He has failed on all accounts

You would be more correct to say "they have" not "he has".

No he hasnt failed on all accounts. He has made some progress and changed quite a bit of the rules the big corporations and banks play by that hinder the "litttle guy".(Romney will give them back). The world takes what we say seriously now, Obama does not play when it comes to terrorist, or any threats for that matter. Democracy is spreading in the ME, not how we want it but Democracy nonetheless. I could write a page, but this is just a couple of examples.

And, Mr. President, there are 50 states, not 57. "My fellow Americans in all 57 states, the time has changed for come". Barack Obama

Obama was was tired from relentless campaigining when he said this. When you are doing speech after speech, and not getting enough rest these things can happen. Of course everyone using this against him has never misspoke I am sure(sarc).

Bottom line is do you want more bank fees again, do you wish to make access to health care more difficult to acquire again. Do you wish for large corporations to continue to pay less taxes than you and I? Do you wish to lose respect of the worlds countries again, by electing one that shows a bad disposition and ignorance toward them. If you wish to turn the clock back on health care, the respect we have gained from the world, and tighter controls on the banks and corprorations then vote Romney.

If you wish to keep moving forward(slowly but surely) then Vote Obama.

After reading the first few sentences, and seeing that NBC was involved in the poll the article became pointless to read. The #'s are skewed badly in the democratic favor. Romney will win this Nov. no matter how NBC and other lame stream media news orgs. try to spin the facts to their favor.

Romney is done barring a collapse of the economy or Obama developing Mittitis during the debates- both unlikely. The questions now are when will Rover/Kochheads give up on him and pour their money just into the House and Senate races, and whether the dems momentum will carry over into the Senate and House. The Senate looks better and better. The House? We'll see..

The GOP's only hope lies in the success of their voter suppression tactics.

GOPer's how does that make you feel?

Oh, you mean like requiring an ID to vote? Lets contrast that with Liberal tactics of making everyone a victim, pitting American against American, black against white, woman against man, rich against poor. I wont even get into things like ACORN.

Just another attempt by NBC to skew the polls. The NH poll used the mix of likely voters to be 25% Democrats, 25% Republicans, and 50% Independents. However if you look at who showed up to vote in the 2010 elections this is not even close. Those elections were made up of 27% Democrats, 30% Republicans and 44% Independents. When you under sample Republicans by 5%, how can you say that this is even an attempt at an accurate poll?

I watched Obama on TV. Telling people that it was the patriotic duty of the people paying taxes to pay even more taxes. So if paying more in taxes makes you a patriot, what does it make those who pay no income tax?

I also see new poll numbers that have the liberals crowing! It's too bad really. Obama and the Left wing media are just setting their people up for a fall!

I can hear it all now. How is it possible that Romney won? Obama was so far ahead! Them bastard Republicans have stolen the election! It's time to take to the street!

Obama declares Marshall Law and annuls the election, vowing to stay in office until thing are straitened out!

He then suspends Congresses authority and rules by proclamation

              steve;

I watched Obama on TV. Telling people that it was the patriotic duty of the people paying taxes to pay even more taxes. So if paying more in taxes makes you a patriot, what does it make those who pay no income tax?

This is much better than saying "no new taxes" and lying to us and making empty promises not to dip into the defense budget as Ryan has said, which is partly how Clinton helped balance the budget while in office.I have been historically against cutting defense, but we are light years ahead of other countries, and spend about as much as the world combined, to say we can not and will not make budget cuts here is ignorant

This would not affect our readiness as Romney claims, we are light years ahead of every country as far as defense. They would break this promise for sure.

I pay a high self employment tax as a sole owner. Let me tell you I feel good when I have paid my part ie ("when I am good with Uncle sam",as I call it). I do feel like a Patriot after paying my taxes. This is a feeling many(millions) can relate too. I would feel like a slouch not paying my fair share.

So if paying more in taxes makes you a patriot, what does it make those who pay no income tax?

              Exempt.

Those not paying income tax for whatever reason, still pay property taxes, state and local tax, and sales tax. They are also retired, children, and soldiers in war zones, or needy for the moment at no fault of their own. This makes up the 47% percent Romney speaks of.

              Wow, I'm shocked.

New Hampshire is a very conservative Republican state. Normally the GOP candidate would be ahead there hands down. If he can't carry New Hampshire, then he'll have trouble in a lot of the other red states. His campaign surely is freaking out on this news.

This has to be the Massachusetts connection, where people don't trust him because they know him.

I think that Romney's record as the former Governor of Massachusetts may be what ultimately could cost him the election. If he runs away from it, he turns off half of his potential supporters. If he embraces it, he turns off the other half. And, Massachusetts and the neighboring states will hold him accountable for his time there, regardless.

Have you heard about Wendy Rosen? No. She is (well, she was) the democrat running for Congress in Maryland's 1st congressional district. Ring a bell? No.

OK, her own party made her drop out of the race when it was discovered she had voted twice in national and local elections in 2006 and 2008. She voted in Florida in 2006 and 2008 and in Maryland in 2006 and 2008.

I'd guess Romney will need more than a bump to overcome the voter fraud that has become synonymous with the Democratic Party. You know the Democrat's motto? "Vote early and vote often."

And this from one of the leaders of the democrats. I guess she should receive a pass as I'm sure she meant well and we all know that is what really counts from Democrats; they meant well.

Wow, did you guys hear about this?

Obama again urges defense contractors not to warn of layoffs, despite defense cuts which are expected to cause contractors to slash hundreds of thousands of jobs!

He'll do or say ANYTHING to get reelected! He is the dirtiest president in the history of the United States! Way worse than Nixon! It wasn't enough that Obama and his administration lied and tried to hide the facts about the Libya terror attacks! They are going to get hundreds of thousands of people to lose their jobs and they will pay their employers NOT TO INFORM THEM IN TIME!

                  .

The Obama administration has doubled down on its plea to defense contractors not to warn employees about possible layoffs due to looming budget cuts -- going so far as to offer to cover legal fees in compensation challenges.

The move drew a stern rebuke Friday from South Dakota Republican Sen. John Thune, since federal law requires employers to give notice if mass layoffs are likely.

"For the second time, the Obama administration has now encouraged government contractors to ignore the WARN Act and hold off on warning employees about possible layoffs due to the looming sequestration cuts,” Thune, lead author of the Sequestration Transparency Act, said Friday.

The offer to pay the legal fees was included in a memorandum issued by the administration Friday that also restated the Labor Department's position from July that contractors should not issue written notices to employees because of the "uncertainty" over the across-the-board cuts to the defense budget and other federal spending that will occur Jan. 2 unless Congress reaches a new deal.

The notices are required under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act and generally require employers with more than 100 employees to provide 60-day notices of "mass layoffs if they are reasonably foreseeable."

Didn't they also pretend that Democrats had a chance in the 2010 midterms and the Walker re-call election?

No. In fact it was predicted that the GOP would take many seats in the House and would even win the Senate, which they didn't. And Walker was expected to survive the recall. But keep hoping for miracles and pixie dust.

Rick's Real, That is Real DUMB! A business in California? Really? Your full of crap, or your just a really bad businessman! Seriously! How is your business margins doing with Workers Comp rates, Insurance Rates, etc. in California. Don't feed me your BS either! I know too many businesses that have been owned by aquaintances that did 6 to 10 million a year that closed doors there because of cost to do business. Don't feed it pal. One was a neighbor to owner of Padres. I am in business in a neighboring state, and I can tell you the cost to do business in California is not sustainable! Nobody gets in business to just pay employees! Fool! How is that broke state doing that is ran by Democrats. Jerry Brown? You got to be kidding? How is it paying toll fees to drive on those tax paid freeways? How are your auto registrations? Highest in the nation? Obama landslide? Don't get your hopes set to high stud. I was just visiting California. Nobody in the area I went to had anything good to say about Obama! Nobody! Polls? They speak only for a few. When you can't make it in that broke state, please stay there. We don't want Democrats in our town! Good luck Savy businessman. LMFAO

Perhaps Ricks Real is a good businessman who knows how to do business in the state that was run by several actors in the past. Two come to mind, Reagan and Arnie. The state that is a strong dem state with 1/5th of all electoral votes needed to win. The state that makes Texas look puny. This vine has been a pleasure to read today since so many of the CONservatives are being so quiet lately.

fuz brain, do you read much? "No Corporations"? Where was that stated? It is FACT that many have left California in the last several years, including many home builders. Just a little fact. You can get $2 million Contractor coverage for under $1200 a year in a neighboring state. That same insurance in California? $1200 a month or more! You think a business wants to explore those options? Not when profit margins are, at, or near, 3% there!

He doesn't want Jerry , or anyone else with a modicum of sense or an IQ over 10 in HIS town, only repubs and likeminded cretins. But fails to identify where it is.

On the edge, your brain is on the edge. It is cut and dry most employees don't have a damn clue on the cost to do business. So yes, it would confuse you. If you only had a clue on the cost of 1 employee! Margin's? You wouldn't have a clue either. Businesses to people like you are just making serious money and you should get the free handout.

                    timlmillinois,

I second that... The question is, why is NBC reporting on a state (NH) with only 3 electoral votes? which is pointless... Montana only has 3 electoral votes, how is Obama doing there? Being selective in the reporting is not being objective. If Obama wins in all 50 states then voter apathy has fully set in and we as a people have lost the ability to be a free nation.

After reading my post a few times I realize how you could have taken it the way you did. These things happen and you did not offend me but you did further the conversation. Every time I hear "battleground state" it makes me cringe. Many people here blast on Citizen United and I wanted to defend them but they won a supreme court case against Montana concerning big money in a state with such a low population. The law in Montana was passed because people were literally buying Senate seats. I think you and I can agree on more than what we disagree. As long as we can think for ourselves and realize that we are still one nation.

The fools who want to argue have no clue what is cost to run a business. Typical liberal mindset; you should be in business to provides jobs, no matter what it cost you to do so. All businesses should be non-profit AND unionized. Power to the People!

And landlords should provide rent free housing. The government should provide free health care. Everything you need or want should be free.

Well free for you only means that someone else is paying for it. Bunch of fools. Must be plenty of the 47% in California!

Me? I'm tired of paying for other people's FREE stuff.

All you Liberals out there calling names and trying to distort the facts, what a shame.

I to pay income taxes and to say that I was happy to pay an ever increasing amount would be a lie! Yes, there are a lot of veterans and retired people not paying as much earned income taxes. But, to lump them in with the others is a discredit to those who have worked all their lives or served their country to preserve our freedoms!

Those I talk about are the one watching you go to work and come home and look like they never left their front porch. We had one that would sell their fuel oil right back out of the tank as soon as the heap delivery was made! They would trade fifty dollars off their food stamp card to anyone who would take them to the store and buy them a pack of cigarettes! When this was reported to the county, they said that after fuel was delivered it belonged to them to do with as they pleased!

There are a lot of freeloading people out there who love riding on the backs of others. Set in any little store and watch what happens when people get their earned income checks. They will come in and buy 50 dollars worth of lottery tickets at a time! That is hard earned money that came out of somebody else pocket, so it spends easy! It seems the less you do and the less you want to accomplish the more our government rewards you. All out of some sense of fairness!

Fairness to whom? We have people from the south ignoring our boarders and heading straight to the welfare offices. Look, I'm pregnant, now I can ride on your countries workers forever. Just keep paying and I will keep having kids! I promise they will all voter Democratic. We still have a few relatives below the boarder that need to come up!

Does that sound sarcastic? Well it was meant to be, given the facts. The fact is that 56% of all illegals are on some form of welfare and Obama thinks that is just fine!

When the drivers licenses of immigrant in Florida were cross compared to voting list it found thousands of people illegally registered to vote! Democrat’s response, Republicans are trying to suppress the vote!

I do not anything to harsh as an Immigration law. Let’s just use the one that Mexico has in place. That would suit me just fine and would have to be seen as fair seeing as it's coming from their home country!

this man is very very heartless and wicked--not simply a flip-flopper.

That was very evident in his years at Bain Capital. People who buy companies with the sole purpose of gutting them, selling them for a profit and destroying the lives and livelihoods of the employees could never possess a heart. So why in the hell would he think anyone would want him to run this country?

let me ask a question: If the polls show obama up by that much, why is he wasting his time going back to the same old haunts to stump. I mean. I sure wouldn't. If he was so secure in his winning in those states, I sure wouldn't worry about my compitition gathering crowds, knowing that the polls show me ahead by that much. nope, i be on the gulf course, or visiting Hi to inspect my 36million dollar new digs. or, is it that he is worried that he doesn't have that state or states locked up as thought. know what He is scared sh-tless that those polls might be off. this guy is a fake, fraud, phony as you libs and those polls.

These are polls. Nothing is a sure bet until November. You'd do the same thing (at least I would think so). Until then, the President and those that are voting for him will continue to do what they have been.

seriously... doesn't it just break your hearts and upset everyone to no end, how tortured and ridiculed the right wingers must feel? They were duped into supporting a good looking (well kinda) white guy who could lie, could rake in millions by firing people, could do as instructed by the real party leaders (Kochs, Rove and Norquist) and then to find out he couldn't keep his Mitty mouth shut long enough to just win an election, and during times of recession which they so pridefully and patriotically created in an 8 year span! It's just pathetic, considering the crop of near geniuses they passed over to run against our (socialist) president. Oh well... since they love going in reverse, I wouldn't be surprised if next election we have a Whig candidate. It only makes sense... a new hybrid republican (well old name) but a cross between a white guy and a pig. Oh wait! They almost had that this year... Chris Christie! Better luck in 2016 loser tea-baggers!

It's a law now. And the Congress has spent more time whining and crying about how they voted it. I'm pretty sure you've benefitte from it already IF you have insurance. For me, got my co-pay back from my insurance when I had a yearly physical. My kids are still covered while attending college.

Didn't the Congress pass a bill to allow them time to "read?"

there is only 1 reason that Obama won NC 4 years ago, but thankfully most people have realized the error of their ways. And with his attitude on Israel, you can bet he's also chasing the Jewish senior vote away. Hold on tight koolaid drinkers, it's gonna be a helluva blowout!

Most home loans are bout 500% of yearly income or more. Really sucks being a republican right now doesn't it. Maybe the "my way or the highway" group is going to have a lot of hitchikers out there come November.

Actually Sal, with Loose Cannon Netanyahu trying to push the President over Iran, he made a lot MORE enemies here in the US, they see him as biting the hand that feeds him. We do NOT want any more war, especially for a nuke armed nation that seems to be acting like a rabid dog and biting everyone around them.

Most of the actual Jews that I have spoken to think that Netanyahu is the worst thing that has happened to Israel in a long time, and want him OUT of there, especially before he goes and starts a war with Iran, and are embarrassed that he tried to inject himself in American politics on Romney's side.

The reason that President Obama won 4 years ago was because we had just gone through 8 years of an illegal, illegitimate, warmongering, budget busting Administration that collapsed the financial industry leaving the taxpayers to pick up the tab. Let alone ALLOWING the attack on the Trade Center just so they would have the excuse to go to war and make TRILLIONS in profits.

And then in 2010 the TPers ran on JOBS, JOBS, JOBS, but since then have buried any and all job bills, and the ones that they CALL "Jobs Bills" have been nothing but Union Busting, attempts at repealing AHA, attempts to remove regulatory agencies or to defund regulatory agencies, which Sen. Reid has been smart enough to not even consider letting them come up for a vote, because they are all lies and poison pills for the electorate.

MOST people actually applaud President Obama's position on Israel, he has given them high tech weapons, expanded the financial help, gave them assistance on their Iron Dome defensive system and even Israel's Ehud Barak has stated that president Obama has been the most helpful President to Israel EVER.

So, go ahead and believe in your fantasy that it is only a Dem plot that the polls are showing so high for President Obama over Romney, this Nation remembers what Bush did, and considering the number of Bush folks on Romney's team, bringing the Bush name up is totally legit: President Obama is running against a cardboard cutout of a CEO that has his motions programmed by those Bush Advisors, so, in a direct way, President Obama is going against a retread, rerun of Bush II, and since we ALL know how that went (aside from those of you with selective amnesia) and so President Obama will, in all likelyhood, win against Romney in an even greater landslide than against McCain, who was also seen as a continuance of the Bush policies.

Throw in Romney's unlikeability, his numerous statements that throw half of America under the bus, especially his own voting bloc, and the fact that NO ONE really trusts him, his tax returns that he will not show because it would show that he had taken the Swiss/American Amnesty for tax evasion/fraud, and he would be instantly disqualified for office right there. The fact that he has no clue about what America really is or how most Americans live, day to day, paycheck to paycheck...along with thinking that airplane windows should roll down....we can see that he is NOT, in any way, shape or form, Presidential material and yes, it is no wonder that he is polling so very low EVERYWHERE!

Sorry to pop your bubble and introduce you to reality, but there it is. And the down ticket Repubs/TPers, who have INTENTIONALLY damaged the recovery, kept millions of people from getting jobs and worked to make President Obama a one term President because they just cannot Stand having That Black Man in THEIR White House..and have been very loud about just that, well, it does not look good for them holding the house nor their numbers in the Senate. We got screwed by the Repubs/TPers in '10 when they ran on the platform of JOBS, and yet, no jobs bills of any worth whatsoever, instead it has been votes on union busting, repealing the AHA, votes on ending abortion, repealing the AHA, votes on removing regulatory agencies, and repealing the AHA, votes on removing funding for regulatory agencies, and repealing the AHA.......and we have watched this, and seen that they did NOT do what they said...No Jobs from them at all. What was it that Clint Eastwood said? If they are not doing the job they were sent there to do, then it is time to replace them? Well The President has been trying to do what he said he would, and has been met by a scorched earth program of Just Say No to EVERYTHING that MIGHT help America and Americans, because it would make President Obama look too good and then they (the Repubs) would never win. Well, we saw that, and now we are going to get rid of THEM, because all they did was make THEMSELVES look bad, and they have NO ONE to blame for that but THEMSELVES.

So, reality really bites, doesn't it?? We have one of the best Presidents ever working for ALL of us, and, barring massive cheating by the Repubs...like we saw stopped in Florida just today... then President Obama will get his second term, he will have a Dem House and filibuster proof Senate and all of you folks on the right will have to go home and scratch your heads and try to figure out where you went so wrong.

Meanwhile, the recovery will take off and without the obstruction in Congress, things will get better for ALL Americans very quickly.

The Repubs/TPers dug their hole and have yet to stop digging and will find the rest of America pushing the dirt back into the hole, burying the extremists in the Repub/TPer party like the dead thing that it really is!

President Obama will not win North Carolina, and before you jump all over me, I am a Military Veteran with 3 degrees and have worked hard all my life and I will not be voting for Mr. Obama this time. I really am amazed at how my party can call the Republicans Millionaires, racists, ignorant, and oh the southern states have uneducated idiots and they only care about the rich, last time I looked Democrat families such as the Kennedy's, Kerry's, Pelosi, Clinton's and many more have more money than most will ever see in their lifetime. Also this looks like the Republicans are not the only ones who call people names and belittle them. I challenge all Millionaires Democrat or Republicans, donate 50% of your wealth to the poor in this country and leave the middle class alone. If they did that there would be no poor in this country. I have worked very hard all my life, put myself through school and am very proud of all I have accomplished, I have no problem giving to others and helping those who are trying to help themselves but I will not continue to give until I have nothing left which exactly what this administration wants. Take from the rich give to the poor no matter that the rich worked their ass off to get where they are and some (not all) of the poor do nothing to improve their surroundings, they just feel they deserve the government taking care of them. Also if all of you think that the Souhern states/republicans are so stupid and do not have a right to their opinions well I wonder what would happen if all these ignorant souherners/republicans decided to quit work and let you take care of them.. Lets see how tolerant you would be. As for me I do not like either party anymore and will be changing to Independent and researching throughly all who run for office before I vote for them.

So far his popularity is only resonating with those who don't have a clue about reality. Watch much American Idol? Your hero is as vapid as that program, but hey, it's a popularity contest, who cares about the state of the nation? We have that 'eye candy' to look up too and we get to see him with other famous people like Letterman and the haglets on the View. George Carlin had the American voter pegged, all froth, no substance.

Well, President Obama has created 5 million jobs, which is more jobs than George "Curveball" Bush created in 8 years, and more jobs than Mitt Robme created in Mitt's entire life!

Plus President Obama took out the #1 Terrorist, Osama Bin Laden.

What's Mitt's record say, that he came in 47th out of 50 in job creation when he was Governor of Massachusetts. Mitt Robme is the one with the lousy record!

Mitt has a record of being a JOBS CREMATOR!

News from Portage County, Ohio. Republicans candidates are now polling ahead of Democrats. News from the Youngstown area, Republicans are running close. This means trouble for Tim Ryan who inherited the seat from James Trafficant for whom the district was structured by Democrats with between a 2 & 3 Democrats to 1 Republican mix. Republicans did not bother to fix it for this year.

If this is what is really going on, it's going to be a long election day for Democrats. This reminds me of 2010. Democrats started saying they would be gaining seats. Then it became they would lose a handful of seats. When the dust settled, they lost 58 seats in the house and 6 in the senate.

DB ... you wish. Nice try. Romney is a DISASTER and IS going to lose handily, at least at this point. And I don't see him gaining ANY traction after the debates.

Joe Scarborough called him a "horrible politician, one of the worst" yesterday on his show. Most of the country seems to agree. Romney is toast.

Romney is near the cracking point.

Saw a video of him at an Ohio Rally. They had just announce Paul Ryan and a portion of the crowd at the rally started chanting "Ryan, Ryan, Ryan..."

Romney, steps away from the podium, puts his hand to his ear and says, "Wait a second, wait a second... Romney Ryan Romney Ryan Romney Ryan..."

But no one takes up the chant. Even the few people chanting "Ryan, Ryan, Ryan" shut up. Romney continues with, "There you go, Okay, Great..."

You know it's bad when your own Republican supporters who come out to your Rallies don't even want to engage in a little bit of chanting for their guy.

If you don't like what NBC is doing just stop coming back. When they are down to just the die-hards, then maybe they will get the message to stop distorting the truth. From what I see of the participation from center and right, they only bother to participate when the left die-hards aren't at the top of the threads.

Chrysler was bought by Fiat. Otherwise it might have ended up liquidated.

GM's Profit & Loss analysis says it will be back in bankruptcy court about mid next year. The North American division still is not consistently profitable and is losing market share. Opel was a big suprise last quarter by showing a big profit, but normally loses money.

Anyone who believes any of the national polls except Rasmussen is on mind altering drugs. If you look at the sampling techniques used by most of these 'pollsters' you will uncover they are oversampling Dem voters by anywhere from seven to twelve points to derive the numbers they are 'reporting' to you good folks in the good ole USA. Their assumptions is that the President will have the same excitement level he had in 2008 and carry the Independent voter. Just one problem with that rationale--the 2010 election reflected an electorate that was just the opposite of the assumptions they are now using. My point is (it is always good to have one) this election is more than close and can't measure folks who are not home--or can they? There was a YouTube video that showed an automated call polling an answering machine and registered a vote for the President when no one was there...Surprise! The video is no longer available--incredible! Check that--I found it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C__xOdPPZFo Enjoy!

In 2010 Rasmussen oversampled the GOP by 5% HE WAS WAY WAY off.

IN 2008 the RCP average of all polls was spot on. To believe that 1 pollster is right while 200 plus state and national polls over the past 2 months are ALL WRONG you sir are a low info. person. Educate yourself. Polls are GENERALLY correct..some more than others..why you look at an average of all and not just 1 outlier. At this point RASMUSSEN is now the outlier.

                      Seeking Sanity

Actually, really seek sanity. Don't proclaim it, actually seek it, and you will find it.

Rasmussen and Gallup both are polling based on an average of 2008 and 2004 turnout numbers. The rest, and this includes a lot of republican polls, ares using 2008 and treating it as a trend rather than the anomaly it actually is.

Why I can sanely say 2008 was an anomaly is because :

                      - the turnout in 2010 saw Democrats give back half of what they gained from 2004 to 2008.

                      - The voter registrations have consistently shown that Independents is the fastest growing voting block. There are also more surveys showing republican leaning is up, and Democrat leaning is down.

                      - Both the internal Democrat and Republican polls are saying that Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia are dead heats.

                      - Obama is visiting mainly Democratic strongholds. Romney and Ryan are visiting Republican strongholds, but are also venturing into Democrat strongholds such as Youngstown, Portage County and Stark County. There are plenty of results maps that show this is what is really happening.

For Obama to win Ohio, he has to show strong in Cleveland, Portage, Stark, and the Youngstown counties.

Here in Akron, I'm seeing the typical local democrat yard signs in staunch Democrat yards, but not the Obama signs. Maybe they haven't been made available yet, but that is what I'm seeing right now.

                      Patrick

Rasmussen is very accurate as far as the national tally, but in state races they are hit and miss. In the Primaries, I got to the point I could not depend on them. They were consistently 3 - 5 points under or over the results, especially in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

What you really want to get is the internal poll numbers from both parties. They only get leaked if the public numbers are preposterous or there is a close race to insure the base turns out.

The internals from BOTH camps for Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia show the races to be dead heats.

Oh good, even in the NBC poll, which overstates Dems a little usually, Romney's only down 2 in Nevada now.

He's gonna win there, baby! Another poll from VA today only has him down 2 there, a local poll.

Ok, Guys, By the Way, these are the Rules on Polls for the Last 6 weeks:

--when a poll is good for Democrats, the polls don't matter, let's talk about issues

--when a poll is good for Republicans, it's really important and sends a strong signal about what's going to happen on Election Day.

                      Allright?

this is what our leftist president gives us as "progress"

(Reuters) - Economic growth was much weaker than previously estimated in the second quarter as a drought cut into inventories, setting the platform for an even more sluggish performance in the current quarter against the backdrop of slowing factory activity.

Gross domestic product expanded at a 1.3 percent annual rate, the slowest pace since the third quarter of 2011 and down from last month's 1.7 percent estimate, the Commerce Department said in its final estimate on Thursday.

Output was also revised down to reflect weaker rates of consumer and business spending than previously estimated. Outlays on residential construction export growth were also not as robust as had been previously estimated.

Economists polled by Reuters had expected second-quarter GDP growth would be unrevised at a 1.7 percent pace. The economy grew at a 2.0 percent pace in the January-March period.

The worst drought in half a century, which gripped large parts of the country in the summer, saw farm inventories dropping $5.3 billion in the second quarter after slipping $1 billion in the first three months of the year.

Data in hand for the third-quarter suggest little improvement in the growth pace, even as the housing market digs out of a six-year slump. Manufacturing, the pillar of the recovery from the 2007-09 recession is cooling, hurt by fears of tighter U.S. fiscal policy in January and slower global demand.

In the meantime, my investment portfolios have a ytd return of 21.4% net and if I include my AAPL holdings, it increases to 24.83%. The companies I invest in have significant cash reserves (some larger than the US Treasury) and their managements are receiving record compensation packages. I thought you Republicans didn't believe in "global warming" which certainly negatively impacted the agricultural sector. BTW, the President is not responsible for the weather patterns. You must be behind the housing curve because your information is already obsolete. And don't forget, if Mitt Romney were President, we would have an automobile industry with only one producer, Ford Motor Company.

                        Thu Sep 27, 2012 1:42pm EDT

WASHINGTON, Sept 27 (Reuters) - The U.S. economy likely created 386,000 more jobs in the 12 months through March than previously estimated, the Labor Department said on Thursday, news welcomed by the White House as President Barack Obama campaigns to win re-election.

Obama must convince voters he deserves a second term despite an unemployment rate above 8 percent that is high by historic standards, and his team played up the news as a sign that the economy was moving in the right direction.

In a preliminary estimate of its annual benchmark revision to closely watched payrolls data, the Labor Department said its latest comparison suggests the level of employment in March was 0.3 percent higher than it had previously stated.

White House economic adviser Alan Krueger said the revision indicated that the U.S. economy had added "nearly 5.1 million private sector jobs, on net, over the past 30 months." Employment is likely to be a key factor in the Nov. 6 election.

This is REALITY Republicans --- this election is over. Mitt Romney is one of the very worst candidates of all times. But the problem goes deeper than that for the Republican Party. Republicans have managed to chase just about every demographic out of their party except old white men and old white women. They haven't had a new economic idea in over 30 years. If Republicans don’t come up with some new ideas and find an entirely new group of leaders, we just may have another President Clinton in 2017.

                          Runaway Train

                          From the article above:

Obama is ahead of Romney, 51 percent to 44 percent, among likely voters in New Hampshire. He also edges Romney in Nevada and North Carolina, but within the margin of error.

The polls continue to look good for President Obama.

                          The article continues…

Over the past three weeks, NBC and Marist have released polls of nine battleground states – Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, and Wisconsin – and all show Obama with leads, ranging from 2 to 8 points.

The President continues to rack up an impressive amount of states.

It's begining to look like a runaway train with the President pulling way ahead.

Still 40 days to go, so keep diligent and keep pressing…..

                          FORWARD!!!

                          Salud

The total workforce is 155 million. The average unemployment rate under Bush was 5%. Multiply those two numbers and you get an average of 7,750,000 workers who were unemployed.

Similarly, the average unemployment rate under Obama was 9% which translates to 13,950,000 unemployed workers.

That means that an average of 6 million fewer workers were employed under Obama than under Bush. I'm sure these simple facts will incite all the usual left-wing sound bites, remarks taken out of context, "clever" misspellings, childish name-calling, and outright lies; but these facts will remain undeniably true.

No there were more created under Bush 2003-2007. You guys try to act like because of the recession in 2008, which had zero to do with Bush policies, that wipes out all the years of average 5% unemployment we had.

In a REAL recovery, like under George W Bush from January 2004 to January 2007, we created 7 million jobs in 3 years.

It's pretty amazing too, because unemployment wasn't that high before the recovery, so it's hard to add that many jobs when you are not that far away from full employment to begin with.

OK Layton, I thought about it. When a baby-boomer retires, he/she leaves a vacancy which must be filled by hiring an unemployed person. Net effect would be a decrease in unemployment. Anything wrong with that logic?

No. When a baby-boomer retires it does not always mean that the job they held is one that needs to be re-hired for. You've got to factor in age, technology, and computers ....

Layton - You apparently have a smart mom. No matter what you factor in, retiring boomers creates downward pressure on the unemployment rate. So the increase under Obama becomes even worse when we consider that factor.

                              Layton,

Apparently logic, math, and facts plain elude you...typical no comprehension or understanding...perfect Democrat. Your are a prime example of how our country can amass a $16 trillion dollar debt and the Democrats not only don't notice it the refuse to address even when the controlled the Congress (Senate and House) since January 5th 2007 until January of 2011. Throw in the Presidency from January of 2009 until now and you have a trifecta. Perfect opportunity to make some good changes...what did you deliver a Health Care bill we have to pass to find out what is inside. In this years party platform the Democrats are asking for more money for a program that will not even launch completely until 2016...why the need for more money already?

Retirees are never factored in any unemployment numbers...they are retired and become part of the citizens who do not work since they are retired...seriously?

Well never mind I refer you back to the statement I started with above.

                              Next please.

What you do not seem to understand is that Bush IS responsible for turning a great economic situation into a catastrophe during his 8 years. Both Clinton and Obama improved the economy, the Bushes damaged it. You are a little simple minded about jobs and where they come from. They do not trickle down as the wealthy grab all the money, they are created by the need to meet demand from the buying middle class. As the middle class has fallen, the demand has fallen and, therefore, the jobs market has fallen. Get it?

On top of that, we have the Bain model that buys job producing industries in this country, fires the American workers, and then sets up look alike companies in China to produce the same product at artificially lower prices. Get that too?

BTW, were are the tax returns?

We voters do not want a repeat of what happened in the year 2000. These reports that republicans have manufactured millions of fake ballots to be sneaked in and be mixed with genuine ones must be thoroughly investigated before it is too late. Republicans are now quick at terminating the contracts of the firms they hired to do exactly that and pretending that they were not aware that these firms were faking names and addresses to fill and submitt fake ballots to be counted among the genuine ones.

These discoveries in Florida and other places are just but a tip of an iceberg. There are alot of fraudulent activities being conducted by some groups of people to ensure that fake ballots are sneaked in especially during early voting and through fake absentee ballots. Thousands of Republican absentee ballots are fake as it has been discovered in Florida and thorough investigation must be speedily conducted. There have been plans to make some people with homes in more that one state vote in all those states.

Nowonder Republicans are still talking of winning even when they are badly trailing in the polls.

On April 6, 2011 the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), was convicted in Las Vegas of felony “compensation” for registration of voters. Nevada forbids compensating voter registration canvassers because it creates a financial incentive for fraudulent or sloppy registrations.

The conviction came after the 2008 election cycle during which Las Vegas ACORN officials emptied the local jails to fill voter registration canvasser slots and even put individuals convicted of identity theft in charge of the registration drive.

As Judicial Watch reports, “The group has been busted for forging voter registration applications in key battleground states and submitting falsified forms in more than half a dozen others. In 2007, ACORN settled the largest case of voter fraud in the history of Washington State after seven workers were caught submitting about 2,000 fake registration forms.” Moreover, there are scores of ACORN employees who have been convicted of election fraud.

The Romney campaign is sinking, and if Romney has any chance to turn things around he needs to do so this weekend.

For one his campaign managers: without an outstanding, up to date campaign staff the presidential candidate is nothing. The old needs to be replaced by a new campaign staff-this weekend.

Message-clear, precise platform messages which makes Romney ideas unique with a clear definition from the President Obama campaign. It has to ring like a bell-lately, it's like hearing a pumpkin being hit with a stick. Time frame: this weekend after the campaign staff is replaced.

There is not much time at this point. Without dramatic changes, Romney will lose the election. That is a guarantee, and it won't matter how much Romney spends during the last lap of the race.

Interestingly the 47% who now pay no income taxes have a nasty surprise coming. Last week the Obama administration started printing money again out of thin air - $6,000 per household at last estimate. The massive inflation that this will cause reduces the value of everyone's dollar by exactly the same amount - rich/poor, industrious/lazy - it doesn't matter. Those 47% may be able to keep all the money they earn, but it will buy a lot less gas and groceries. The difference is what Obama is using to help fund his reckless spending.

Inflation is far worse for the 47% than a flat tax, because it will have a disproportionately large effect on those with fixed incomes.

Nobama what do i do? I know the 47% and the ones around here are changing their vote this time, they need work and they know Mitt is able to put people to work.

Funny, I thought it was the Federal Reserve that printed money. And If Obama controls the Federal Reserve we should all vote for him for he is a powerful man indeed. Especially since the Federal Reserve isn't a government agency.

On December 23, 1913, the Federal Reserve System, which serves as the nation's central bank, was created by an act of Congress. The seven members of the Fed Board of Governors are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate to serve 14-year terms of office. The President designates, and the Senate confirms, two members of the Board to be Chairman and Vice Chairman, for four-year terms. The next President can fire the Chairman (or rehire him) in 2014. As a practical matter, that makes the President the boss.

Additionally, the choice to continually spend far more that we receive in revenues, forces the Fed into making unpleasant choices. The Weimar Republic made the same choices that are being made now, and had similar results.

FYI, the Treasury Department owns and operates the actual printing presses, so the Fed cannot "just print more money". It is done so through the treasury Department at the request of the Fed, although the Fed controls the actual $$ supply. And just because the Treasury Department can whip out a few hundred million Benjamins, it doesn't mean that the Fed will circulate ALL that is printed.

More importantly, the president...no president...controls the Fed.

                                        ...just an FYI...

                                        http://finance.yahoo.com/blogs/daily-ticker/no-fed-does-not-print-money-just-explain-150433185.html

So, all this bull@!$%# that the Obama Administration is "printing more money" is just that...bull@!$%#.

Kannin, you have an odd habit of leaving out specifics...important details, out of your posts. Is that by deliberate ommission, or just plain ignorance?

                                        Micky,

If you were not so intent on making a point you would not have missed the actual lesson being imparted to you. Here is the fact "printing money" is just a term applied to what the Fed is doing right now by buying $60 billion per month of mortgages from banks. This plan is an attempt to get the banks to sell their debt to the Fed...the same debt that has many toxic mortgages not yet discovered...oops.

The only actions the Fed under takes in normal situations is the buying and selling of Treasuries and controlling the interest rate charged to banks for borrowing money from the Fed. Sometimes buying the Treasuries is called "printing money" because it put dollars that are now devalued in circulation....comprehend? So what Kannin told you was correct in reference to the buying of Treasuries (printing money). It is not an actual printing process. If you look at M1 there is only about $2.3 trillion in actual currency with M2 at about $10 trillion which includes savings accounts, IRA, and related that are just on the books not backed by actual currency.

                                        Comprehend?

It's a shame they are so gullible, but it doesn't change the basic truth: Obama can't run on his record, he can't run on his lies and empty promises. So how can he run? Attack, attack, attack ... That's all he has left. Sadly that approach seems to be working.

PUUHHHH!!! Really? I actually like you as I consider you a kind poster, but kiddo ... a Propaganda Machine??? If you're selling that as MSNBC, well what on earth is FOX? I'd suggest you watch the Ted Koppell / Bill Reilly interview to get what I'm talking about.

No machines ... just dedicated believing Americans.

                                        Layton,

Seriously? If you call $16 trillion in debt, 44 months of 8.1% or higher unemployment, the slowest recovery since WWII a record to run on you must no have been of voting age when Reagan beat Carter in a landslide during a much less beat up economy. That is when the economy created a strong desire in the nation for a change of leadership. I don't care how personable President Obama is the "policy" chair has been empty since he took office. I would love to see him succeed since it would mean we all would be better off. The fact is most of us are not better off than we were four years ago. I even took the bad economy to advance my education and yet there are no job opportunities for a new graduate.

I lived through President Carter and I have to say I like the man as a private citizen...just not as a President. I am sure I could say the same about President Obama...personable just not Presidential.

The Presidency is not a popularity contest...I have lived long enough to see some great examples of that. It takes leadership and the ability to govern with vision and mission. President Obama does not understand how to use the office to prompt Congress to act...he just blames them for everything and thus divides the Congress along party lines. Great Presidents know how to work with everyone for the greatest good. You can't get there by making enemies of the very people you depend on to set your agenda. His lack of real world experience leaves him marginalized by his own party leadership in both the Senate and House. That is why so many stayed away from the convention this year...they are not trying to ride his coat tails to a re-election because he is not leadership material.

Every time the Democrats pull ahead, you guys use the propaganda argument.

The truth is the GOP has somehow managed to pick the worst candidate and the majority of the voters do not like or trust him.

The notion that the more we learn about and get to know the real Mitt, the more we'll warm up to him is an entirely false premise. It's clearly having the exact opposite effect.

Don't blame this looming election loss on the Democrats, propaganda, dirty tricks, etc.... Blame it on your candidate and the flawed primary process hijacked by the far right.

It actually was possible and arguably quite probable that Romney could have won this election if he ran from the very beginning as a moderate, but he never would have made it through the primaries. That put him in the position of defining himself as both far right to win over the nutcases and as a centrist to win over the majority of actual voters, which besides being a total contradiction, just comes off as sleazy, untrustworthy, and just not genuine to the average person. The GOP is essentially now stuck marketing a candidate that they can't close the sale on.

Obama may be up in the polls, but if we become complacent and don't vote, he loses. So VOTE VOTE VOTE like your life depends on it Nov. 6th. Because it does.

Florida....a proven area where Republicans have blocked minority voting via intimidation. This is the bully technique we all know from childhood and the Right wing use to their advantage all the time.

The right is currently challenging voters across the states in a hope to block Latino voters whom they know if allowed to vote without harassment, will lock in Obama as the next president. Check the facts.

Well if Lord Willard gets in by some kind of massive Retradican fraud those Latino neighbors of your are going to have to learn Chinese since Willard will outsource any decent jobs that are left in the US while handing out tax cuts to his masters and bailouts and bonuses for failure to the corporations that bought him the presidency. As for the 47% of Americans who are victims I am sure he will put them to work digging their own graves.

Seriously Sweaver? Where are Republicans blocking votes? Do you follow ANYTHING but FOX? Florida, North Carolina, heck ANY swing state the Republicans have suddenly been getting concerned about "voter fraud.' Of course they can't find enough to change a vote outcome in a 100 person town much less across the entire state but it sure concerns them! Gotta make sure people who show up to vote have their papers. Meanwhile their 'voter registration drive' in Florida was just shut down because of the fraudulent action including voters listing their address as being at such common housing locations as the local LAND ROVER DEALERSHIP!!

So to recap, under the Republicans plan Grandma can't show up and vote but the "people" who live AT THE FREAKING LAND ROVER DEALERSHIP CAN SUBMIT ABSENTEE BALLOTS!!! Now is it clear to you?

I think someone must have the brains of a monkey!

You are referring to better years, in spite of 9-11, than the last four. You continue to be lied to.....that's OK. I'll be right here, four years from now, God willing. I will be looking for comments from the obama lovers at that time. I pray that, if he gets re-elected, that he makes a liar out of me....because, I'm afraid, if he does the same that he did in the last four years.....there might not be a economy left for us to debate over.

I believe, personally, that he has set out to do one thing, that is to destroy our economy so he can rebuild our country in his own image. That's very frightening to me when the whole country is controlled from one location, and one man. There will be no more debates, or objections on line, as he will most certainly take that away from us, along with our other God given rights, (since we still aren't sure what he faith is, it could be obama bless America. (Don't forget the little children singing tribute to him four years ago....Soon, possibly all the children will be forced to pay homage to him.) as we never see him in church, other than rev. wright, it has never been established as to whether he has a religion.. He has already proven that he can not handle criticism of any kind! Wake up...we're dealing with a very angry man.

Please vote Romney and save America..
