Republican vice presidential candidate, Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis speaks at a campaign stop at Walker Manufacturing in Fort Collins, Colo., Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Congressman Paul Ryan had a simple message for those gathered to hear him speak at America the Beautiful Park: A Mitt Romney administration would support America’s military.
“Mitt Romney and I want to be very clear with you. We value and respect your mission here and we believe in and support missile defense, and missile defense is necessary to keep us safe and we will not allow that to go through,” the Republican vice presidential nominee said. “To the soldiers in Fort Carson to the airmen at Peterson and Schriever Air Force Base and to those cadets at the Air Force Academy: We respect you, we appreciate you and we will back you because we need you. We need your support. We need what you do.”

Ryan, speaking just down the street from the Air Force Academy, talked about the joy and hope it brings him to appoint students to the various military academies around the country as a seven-term congressman.
“It is one of the greatest experiences because every year I get to sit down and to see these young men and these women and it gives you so much hope that there is such a great future for us because we are still raising such quality people here. I have had such an honor to appoint young men and women to the Air Force Academy here; I still get postcards and pictures and Christmas cards. This is a gem. This is one of the greatest things we do in this country,” he said.
The Wisconsin congressman also hit President Barack Obama for his “devastating defense cuts” to the military, something Ryan has talked about numerous times on the trail but made this very personal appeal for the first time here in the Centennial State.
“Of all the things that Mitt Romney and I differ, disagree with President Obama -- we need a strong military. We believe in peace through strength. We believe that when America’s military is strong, America is safer. This is so critical to our way of life, to our peace, to our security, to our democracy, to our prosperity,” he said during the outdoor rally that drew nearly 1,500 people.
“And these defense cuts that he is promising, these devastating defense cuts that he is promising not only undermine our peace, not only undermine our security, they compromise jobs right here.”
While Ryan campaigned in the battleground state of Colorado, Romney wrapped up a three-day Ohio bus tour with just 41 days before voters head to the polls in November.
The month of October will include debates leading up to the Nov. 6th election – the first one takes place on Oct. 3 in Denver.
Ryan was asked about Romney’s readiness to “take it to Obama.”
“Absolutely,” Ryan said. “But one little difference between then and now. President Obama has a record and President Obama has a record and a string of broken promises.”
The GOP vice presidential nominee is scheduled to spend the next several days focusing heavily on fundraising. Ryan heads to Tennessee, Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York City to raise money through the weekend.

Where are "Dubya" and "Darth Cheney"?
Romney and Ryan are surrounded by the very same "advisors" and "experts" that helped to bring us the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, "cowboy" diplomacy, outrageous tax cuts for billionaires, the financial melt-down of 2008, and outsourcing of millions of American jobs.
But, No Bush, no Cheney, no Rice, no Rumsfeld, no Ashcroft, no Gonzales, no Wolfowitz........... WHY? Well, I'll tell you why:
Everyone knows that this band of fools screwed the American people for eight years, yet Romney and Ryan have put together essentially the same team that implemented and supported the policies that resulted in the economic, military, and financial disaster that Presieent Obama and his administration found waiting for them when they took office.
Romney and Ryan are offering up another four years of the eight disastrous years of Bush/Cheney. Who needs that?
The Romney-Ryan military job opportunity program is the one that will address unemployment while expanding the private sector. Never mind that the progams for elderly, sick, and poor, will be cut first while raising taxes on the middle class are used to finance these adventures
In the meantime, the GOP filibustered to kill a jobs bill for Veterans just last week. What are they thinking?
Did you read the bill? Do you know what was in it? Didn't think so. Keep drinking that kool aide kid.
NANA, yet more ignorance. You mean, you can't comment on a bill knowing only the general outlines of it, is that it pal? If so, than no citizen of the is country can ever hold forth with an opinion on any future legislation. Thanks for enlightening us.
Tell me what "For Profit" ventures have done for America. By it's own terminology, it is there for profit! Isn't the whole idea of Non-profit the solution to this cockamamy prancing horsie that keeps emerging from the mouths of Republicans, like Romney, who has invested over 60 Million dollars in Charter Schools and plans on forcing them down our throats when he gets to the White House?
San Diego almost burned down because "for profit" Cal-Fire was more interested in supporting the investors, than in buying enough equipment to fight the fires that got close to Escondido, Fallbrook, Temecula, and eastern San Diego proper. California had to pay other states millions to come and save the Republican San Diegans homes, who prefer for-profit over non-profit fire protection services!
We can thank our Republican leadership for allowing this to happen, all for the sake of reducing Unions, who disagree with Republican ass-backwards philosophies!
For-profits are the problem, not the solution!
For-profits seek profits by lowering wages and services, for the sake of the investors!
When Americans can no longer, because of their low wages, buy products and support these for-profit ventures with our taxes, what happens? These ventures, just like the for-profit fire departments in the South, want to charge each homeowner for fire protection, or their firefighters will let our homes burn down! For the sake of profits......
The Joint Strike Fighter (F-35) is slated to cost taxpayers $1.5 trillion, with about a trillion attributable to its expensive maintenance costs. This is a perfect example of wasteful programs, since the F-35 is becoming too expensive to bother flying. Instead of delaying contracts, it's time for elected officials to pull the plug.
CHAD, Right you are. It's gone over budget so many times the Pentagon has lost track. A boondoggle of incalcuable proportions.
You know Ryan's lyin', cause his mouth is open!
The defense cuts in the latest budget are far from "devastating." Ryan is aware of that since he voted for them.
Ryan in the photo looks like Eddie Munster.
Anyway - defense contractors (along with big ag and oil) are the largest corporate welfare programs we have. Don't agree? Look at what happens when the military doesn't want something and Congress shoves it through anyway because it will cost jobs to their constituents and profits to their largest donors. They ignore what is good for the country as a whole and our military and favor what is good for THEM and their small slice of the country. You hear screams about how it will cost 10k jobs in this district and hundreds over here. But in the private sector, things are changing all the time and the market dictates that this factory closes and something else opens up over here.
How about a strong middle class? How about a strong health care system? How about a strong medicare program? These things are only for the wealthy in the selfish minds of Romney / Ryan.
Win or lose: know that your vote was on the Right Side of history this Nov.!
Listened to some of the entralled Obama votes celebrating the 2008 victory, "We gonna get that Obama Money NOW:" Where is going to come from? "From Obama's stash!"
Whether it is deceiving the most ignorant of the electorate or frightening our vulnerable Seniors with mediscare, Democrats never debate the issues: merely deal in deception, fear mongering, and character assassination. To be associated with the party is to hang with the lowest of the low. By thy friends n associates be known.
You're joking, right? Republicans invented the tactics of scaring seniors, distraction from real issues, deception and character assassination.
yawn, not like the GOP is trying to deceive and scare voters about our "weak" military.
Republicans never debate the issues: merely deal in deception, fear mongering, and character assassination. to be assoicated with the party is to hang with the lowest of hte low. By thy friends n associates be known.
lol.
Paul Ryan is an idiotic blowhard double-talker. The Defense Department is nothing more a gratuitous Federal Jobs Program and bleeds red ink.
So Mr. Ryan insults our brave and tireless young men who VOLUNTEER to protect and serve our country with his statements! They are strong. And we are proud of them. Disgraceful!!!
Romney/Ryan also insulted our troops in combat zones, after all, they are part of the 47% that pay no income tax.
just a bunch of welfare whores living off the government teet. they protect nothing!
The Republicans are now supporting Todd Akin.
They lied to us again!
Americans to Ryan:
Where are all those jobs your goper gang promised us?
When will the trickle-down reach the United States workers?
Why are you mobsters throwing our whole society under the bus for the Koch brothers and the Adelson pimp?
Ryan voted for the defense cuts that he is whining about. He was on the committee that put those in place, and he was one of the key votes in favor of it. What a hypocrite.
Can anyone who wants more spending kindly point out the realistic threat that we need to spend more to defend against?
Remember that we have thousands of nukes, a huge navy and air force, spend as much on defense as the rest of the world, the best technology, etc. etc.
Feel free to make comments like "but China has a larger army" (as if china could invade us, lol), if you want to be laughed at. :)
At least this time Ryan speaks in Colorado Springs - home of the Air Force Academy. I'm sure they gave him a round of applause. This is unlike going to an AARP conference and telling them he's ending Medicare!
These guys don't deserve to be POTUS & VP. They are just too dumb.
Nothing like insulting and disrespecting people, then expecting same to vote for them!
"Who Is Paul Ryan"??
Now he doesn't want to cut defense, but he engineered sequestration that will cause it unless the GOP is thrown out of the House of representative and the deficit would be reduced by the expiration of the rich tax cuts. There is no other department that has a big enough budget to address monetary stipulations of sequestration. He wanted sequestration as a part of the deal that lowered our credit rating with the GOP demanding more cuts.
He waanted sequestration before he didn't want it.
These so called fiscal conservatives are ready to destroy the country rather than compromise.
killyamomz
Obama has weaponized terr o groups in the mid east who have now turned their weapons and attacked U.S embassies.
Thanks Obama. You are the greatest failure.

Reply: What you stated is a myth. The fact is, THIS COUNTRY CAN'T AFFORD TO HAVE ANOTHER REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT.
Reagan illegally funneled weapons to Iran. Reagan and other senior U.S. officials secretly sold arms to officials in Iran, which was subject to a an arms embargo at the time, in exchange for American hostages. Some funds from the illegal arms sales also went to fund anti-Communist rebels in Nicaragua
Reagan helped create the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden. Reagan fought a proxy war with the Soviet Union by training, arming, equipping, and funding Islamist mujahidin fighters in Afghanistan. Reagan funneled billions of dollars, along with top-secret intelligence and sophisticated weaponry to these fighters through the Pakistani intelligence service. The Talbian and Osama Bin Laden — a prominent mujahidin commander — emerged from these mujahidin groups Reagan helped create, and U.S. policy towards Pakistan remains strained because of the intelligence services’ close relations to these fighters. In fact, Reagan’s decision to continue the proxy war after the Soviets were willing to retreat played a direct role in Bin Laden’s ascendancy.
Hey, Ryan! Did you serve? Hey, Romney, did you serve? Do any of us believe more war is the solution? Will Armageddon reduce the hate on our planet? Will having a new nuclear arms race be the solution to peace?
Why is it so important for these Republicans to think they are more worthy to serve us because of their willingness to take us to war, without serving themselves. The population disagrees! We do not need to add another 2 trillion to our deficit, Romney and Ryan! We do not need another one hundred thousand new troops, while you call for us to retreat in Afghanistan!
Where will you use them? You won't even tell us, whom you would serve!
Barring some sort of October surprise exploited by the Right, this race is all but over for the ryan/romney ticket, and it will add the continuing downward slide of the GOP as anything more than an empty shell of what it once was in American politics.
Yeah Ryans partner the yellow, coward,Chickenhawk draft dodging Romney spent the Vietnam war in Socialist France in his villa with his domestic staff taking care of his every need! Of course Mitt was thinking about my fellow soldiers in Vietnam as he dined on the finest caviar and escargot. Nobody in Romneys family has ever served in the military, too yellow and unpatriotic no doubt!
Whether France is socialist or not is totally irrelevant to the fact that Romney spent the Vietnam war there, as a draft dodger that he is, like Cheney, Bush, and all the other ¨patriots¨and warmongers.
We have to get over this ¨socialist¨obsession in this country. In fact of all the countries in Europe, the Scandinavian countries are much better off than the rest during the current crisis, and they are the most socialized of them all.
Like the yellow, coward Chickenhawk Cheney,Romney is itching to start another war that ONLY Poor and Middle Class soldiers will serve.
R.I.P. GOP
Being at a military installation the troops could have been ordered to clap and cheer for Eddie Munster, even if they hated his wimpy little guts! Eddie would take away grandmas Social security and Medicare to give more to his 1% friends. Evil, little weasel he is!
Well that certainly explains the reception that Obama gets when he visits an installation. But it does not explain this reception which was not at a military installation.
GOP=greed over people
Has anyone heard from the lunatic fringe TeaBagger Party lately? Even Palin has been uncharacteristically muzzled.
Not that there's anything wrong with that. :-D
