Republican vice presidential candidate, Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis speaks at a campaign stop at Walker Manufacturing in Fort Collins, Colo., Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Congressman Paul Ryan had a simple message for those gathered to hear him speak at America the Beautiful Park: A Mitt Romney administration would support America’s military.
“Mitt Romney and I want to be very clear with you. We value and respect your mission here and we believe in and support missile defense, and missile defense is necessary to keep us safe and we will not allow that to go through,” the Republican vice presidential nominee said. “To the soldiers in Fort Carson to the airmen at Peterson and Schriever Air Force Base and to those cadets at the Air Force Academy: We respect you, we appreciate you and we will back you because we need you. We need your support. We need what you do.”
Slideshow: On the campaign trail
Ryan, speaking just down the street from the Air Force Academy, talked about the joy and hope it brings him to appoint students to the various military academies around the country as a seven-term congressman.
“It is one of the greatest experiences because every year I get to sit down and to see these young men and these women and it gives you so much hope that there is such a great future for us because we are still raising such quality people here. I have had such an honor to appoint young men and women to the Air Force Academy here; I still get postcards and pictures and Christmas cards. This is a gem. This is one of the greatest things we do in this country,” he said.
The Wisconsin congressman also hit President Barack Obama for his “devastating defense cuts” to the military, something Ryan has talked about numerous times on the trail but made this very personal appeal for the first time here in the Centennial State.
“Of all the things that Mitt Romney and I differ, disagree with President Obama -- we need a strong military. We believe in peace through strength. We believe that when America’s military is strong, America is safer. This is so critical to our way of life, to our peace, to our security, to our democracy, to our prosperity,” he said during the outdoor rally that drew nearly 1,500 people.
“And these defense cuts that he is promising, these devastating defense cuts that he is promising not only undermine our peace, not only undermine our security, they compromise jobs right here.”
While Ryan campaigned in the battleground state of Colorado, Romney wrapped up a three-day Ohio bus tour with just 41 days before voters head to the polls in November.
The month of October will include debates leading up to the Nov. 6th election – the first one takes place on Oct. 3 in Denver.
Ryan was asked about Romney’s readiness to “take it to Obama.”
“Absolutely,” Ryan said. “But one little difference between then and now. President Obama has a record and President Obama has a record and a string of broken promises.”
The GOP vice presidential nominee is scheduled to spend the next several days focusing heavily on fundraising. Ryan heads to Tennessee, Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York City to raise money through the weekend.

Rep. Ryan voted for the defense cuts. He was for them before he was against them.
That's why he's a perfect counterpart 2 Romney!
Is this supposed to be some sort of gotcha headline?
I think 100% of the country thinks we need a strong military.
Well, maybe not the terrorist progressives that are trying to destroy us from within.
Terrorist Progressive- Wow, Know we Know how frightened the far-right really r
..typical republican.....maybe we should bring our troops home and rebuild the middle class first.
mattfromwash- thought u knew that 2 help a fellow American is socialism. We're suppose 2 fight each other for crumbs in our own Country. That is the Neo-Con dream.
...sorry truthbtold....lets sign up for more missile systems then...lol
Actually, helping others is called altruism.
Forcing someone to help others is called socialism.
Be brave..take on the impossible - well I do see courage in Mitt and Paul - but...it's lost cause.
If Ryan is talking about the Military, he should have mentioned these factors:
1. bin Laden is dead;
2. Gadhafi is dead;
3. Iraqi war is over
4. Afghanistan is as good as won
Obama's such record is boosting morales at home and American image abroad.
Even more important is the fact that Obama promotes diplomacy and negotiations with friends and foes alike, showing America's sensible side - winning more hearts and minds of many people in the world, raising American profiles.
Colorado Springs. Beautiful city for the most part. Air Force bases, and lots and lots of churches. Home of at least one of those gigantic evangelical churches, Focus on the Family. Very Repuiblican. Think Colorado Springs is also where that evangelical preacher with a taste for gay meth-heads is from.
I guess they felt it was safe for Ryan to spout pro-military slogans there, certainly safer than for him to speak before senior citizens.
But the thing is just as Skip1 said: Ryan was for the cuts (sequestration) before he was against them. And the other thing is that it's a lie to say that President Obama is not for a strong military. Quite the opposite.
They're just trying to keep Ryan in the sandbox where he can't do too much harm.
We have a strong military. Ryan wants to go back on his word. Like the rest of his party, tax cuts for millionaires were more important than the middle class or the defense of this country. Sorry Ryan, if you hadn't put the chips on the table, you wouldn't have painted yourself into a corner. Go cry to your wealthy boss. You are both bought and paid for by Grover Norquist, and are a disgrace to this county. The lot of you only need to make pledges to the American people, not a wealthy, unelected power monger who controls your entire party.
The cuts were part of the deal Boeher cut with Obama and the Democrats. He was only doing what the Republican leadership asked.
Pigotry
You forgot:

(The U.S. intelligence community claims that the percentage of confirmed released detainees engaging in terrorism or insurgency increased from 5.1 percent of those who were released by March 2009 to 13.5 percent of releases by October 2010, and that the number of those suspected of terrorist or insurgent activity similarly rose from 8.8 percent in March 2009 to 11.5 percent in October 2010.)

I can go on but this will give you libs something to chew on for now
Republicans aren't pro military. They are pro military spending. Theres a huge difference.
Blah, blah, blah,blah, blah!
We all know that Mitt Romney, the wannabe "Outsourcer and Chief",
and his "little side-kick", the Ayn Rand Worshipper, Paul Ryan,
they both want to start an "Atomic Thermal Nucleur War" with Russia, who they still think is the old Union of Soviet Socialist Republic, the old Soviet Union.
Do you really want to "Go back" to the Bush/Cheney/Karl Rove Regime
Romney and Ryan want to go back to the "Cold War" of the 1950's.
Is that sick, or what?
Go Forward with President Obama
Yes, of course we need a strong military going in.....................once they've been damaged though, they are no longer important, they are to be discarded and discounted! Proof is all of the legislation backed by repubs that cut VA funding of any sort, witness the discarding of the latest Jobs bill for Veterans! Romney and Ryan are trying to deal us a hand of one digit numbers, while they hoard the Kings and Aces! Further proof...............how MANY of them OR their children have gone freely into the Military? VERY FEW! Get rid of these warmongers in 2012! They will finish up GW's start of destroying America. Their children get college and businesses given to them, our children are Cannon Fodder and to believe otherwise is both foolish and dangerous! :-(
Aw Shucks Pigotry - Ryan was told by Stench to only discuss Russia (Sarah's scary beary foe), Iran, and East Germany. Oh wait, I think he meant the axis of evil; Iraq, Iran and North Korea. Oh, wait, he meant the Orange Curtain, Anaheim, Irvine, Knots Berry Farm. Damn, still don't have it right .. Ryan, please put together a Power-point and show us how you and Romney plan to blowup the world. I'm ready for a good nap.
Stench?
You wouldn't happen to be one of those morons who was fooled into believing a satirical piece written by Politico, would you?
While I agree with Rep. Ryan on the fact we need a strong military, I strongly disagree on exempting the Department of Defense from budget cuts. EVERY Department and Program of The ENTIRE Federal Government needs to be reduced in spending and in most cases, size and the military simply can't be excluded from those cuts.
I believe the priority for the military has to be cutting spending BEFORE force strength, but there are probably going to have to be further reductions in size for the Army and Air Force along with an effort to end or at least reduce having different branches perform the same tasks.
One of the biggest current problems I see is that both parties want to cut spending on or eliminate what the other party considers important, but neither party wants to cut spending on or eliminate what they think is important. That is simply wrong and we won't see progress on spending until both parties can accept the hard reality that EVERYTHING has to be cut and some programs and departments will need to be eliminated (and that does not necessarily mean an end to the services they provide, just a change in who or what provides that service) so we are no longer spending beyond our means as a nation !!
To put this matter in perspective, the US defense budget is nearly as large as the rest of the world combined. We could cut our military spending by 25% and we would still outspend the next ten countries put together, and most of them are our allies, anyway. The US military has become the GOP's most sacred entitlement program...and our nation's largest...and it must be reduced for the good of the country.
http://www.globalfirepower.com/defense-spending-budget.asp
We have the strongest military in the world and Obama made no such promise to drastically cut spending for Defense. In fact, Ryan voted for the sequestration...
The Stench....
Exactly! I can't even begin to explain the outpouring of happiness around the world that I read the day after the election praising us instead of, for once, hating us.
It felt damn good for me to read things like that. Which is why I say if Obama loses, the world better get their shoes ready to throw at us because they know what we do will affect them and the rest of the world. They'll throw it and we will deserve it if Obama loses.

Actually, helping others is called altruism.
Forcing someone to help others is called socialism.
======================================
Actually, the military is volunteer.
Colorado Springs is home to the Air Force Academy ... not bases.
Why didn't Ryan touch upon Mitt's 47% while there? As many military families qualify for welfare and don't pay tax. Why didn't he tell them that Congress failed to pass the bill for vets???
I'm pretty sure our military know the party that cares about them. Michelle Obama and Jill Biden have made it a platform ... to care, support, and assist military families. And our President thanked them at his convention. Not some little legion down the street as Mitt did.
Obama/Biden 2012
(P.S. - Welcome back Bev! and with some force! You go girl!!!!)
If you paid attention to what world "leaders" like Iran's Ahmanutjob say, WEAS, you'd realize there's very little difference between what they say if a Republican is President or a Democrat (as verified by the nonsense about the "U.S. Bullying" of the Obama administration coming from Ahmawindbreaker this week).
Much of the world hates the U.S. and they WILL ALWAYS hate us because we are a tolerant and diverse society and while that may be subject to slight changes based on the President or Congress, there will NEVER be a major step backward towards being a closed or intolerant society. We've fought too hard to get where we are, and much of the world envies our success, which is too bad for them.
As for the garbage about what nations spend on defense, sorry, but most of the largest military spenders DO NOT DISCLOSE what they spend, leaving the rest of the world to guess.
The U.S. does need to cut defense spending as part of a reduction in spending for the entire Federal Government, but that is to make it leaner and more efficient and to QUIT SPENDING MONEY WE DON'T HAVE, not to be more in line with other nations who may or may not disclose what they actually spend on defense !!
The numbers are based upon CIA figures, not your broken down Ouija board. Pull yourself together.
Layton, just a note: We have three bases in the Colorado Springs area besides the Air Force Academy.....Fort Carson Army Base; Peterson Air Force Base; and Schriever Air Force Base.
Other than that, please keep on talking the talk and walking the walk for Obama/Biden 2012.
Bev, you are a moron.
What junior dip@!$%# up there was talking about was not the military.
Try to keep up.
Why would the GOP stamp their little feet and throw tantrums in an effort to maintain and even increase military spending, and yet they will filibuster to kill a bill to provide jobs for veterans that is insignificant in terms of cost as compared to our annual defense budget? How low can these bottom feeders sink before they drop completely out of sight?
Elliot...
We can only take it as a compliment when you call one of us a moron.
GOP: the total embodiment of "ghabi"
DB "The cuts were part of the deal Boeher cut with Obama and the Democrats. He was only doing what the Republican leadership asked."
Then why don't he slam the Republican leadership, doesn't he have the guts to stand up to them if he feels so strongly about it, why blame Obama now for the republican leadership's decision and his willingness to go along with it. Weak, very weak.
Don't COUNT ME IN YOUR BS!!!!
By "strong" it means go to war immediately, use soldiers while they are good and healthy, to immediately discard them when they come back AS IF THEY WERE GARBAGE.
MORE THAN EVER THERE ARE MASS SUICIDES IN THE MILITARY. DO YOU THINK THAT PAUL RYAN CARES??????
Bring back the draft, so Paul Ryan's CHILDREN WILL GO AND FIGHT HIS DIRTY WARS!!!!!!!
The US military is the strongest in the world. 60% of world military spending is by the US. Funding could be cut in half and America's military would still be stronger than any other country.
This being said, President Obama has never said that America does not need a strong military. Ryan is lyin' again.
A $50billion cut represents, in F-35 terms, a reduction of 81 aircraft from 2443 down to 2362.
Times-Running-Out = dolt
The Ryan budget focuses on only two items: increasing military spending and paying down the debt.
How is that going to boost the U.S. economy? Does Romney/Ryan want everyone who is unemployed to join the military, go get their limbs blown off and then come back and live under a bridge?
Stench indeed.
Every-time I see Ryan's face he makes me throw up, this worm just voted down the Vets job bill, what a phony !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We do have a strong military. We ought to since we spend almost as much on it as the rest of the world combined.
The defense cuts Romney talks about are in that fiscal cliff budget which Paul Ryan voted for, hailing it as a great example of bipartisanship. What? Romney's VP pick voted for these cuts and Romney blames the President for it. What a liar. This is obfuscation at its worst.
This fiscal cliff bill also imposes severe cuts on many other government programs that Democrats like. This bill was designed as a stopgap compromise to allow the government to avoid shut down at the hands of Tea Party. It was intended to be so unacceptable to both parties, that a new better, budget could be passed when the election season was over and cooler heads could prevail.
This is not the only thing Romney distorts. His record as Governor of Massachusetts is something he generally does not talk about.
When he became Governor, Massachusetts ranked 37th in job creation out of 50 states. He claimed then as now that he knew how to create jobs. He undertook a policy of austerity in his state and balanced his budget (required in all 50 states) by cutting funding for education, local governments, job training, and trade assistance. He also used a multitude of fees for services that hit the lower and middle class very hard. Rich folks basically paid little of these, a very regressive revenue (tax) solution, but Grover Norquist would be proud.
So, how'd it turn out. After 4 years as Governor, his state went from 37th in job creation to 47th in job creation.
These are the facts Mr. Romney. Care to explain how your skills as job creator failed to work in the only place you have ever governed?
Mitt Romney, a Liar, and a failed job creator.
OBAMA 2012. For America's Future.
Mr. Ryan: Go back to Mordor and tell your Dark Lord & Master that the People of MiddleClass have spoken:
Obama/Biden 2012!!
Would he come out and say we need a weak military? Because that's what he favors with his voting record.
He voted NO with six other Republicans for the cuts that he is whining about.
Typical flip flop two faced teabagger.
Actually, Mr. Ryan, we have the strongest military in the world already; we could reduce military spending by a quarter and never even notice. What good is a powerful, strong military if we sacrifice everything else to build and maintain it. For a country to be strong and powerful, of course it needs a strong military presence, but it also needs a strong economy, strong education, great infrastructure instead of a crumbling one, a strong and vibrant middle class; otherwise, it is a military with little else worth protecting than the land itself. To continue to increase military spending year after year and never be willing to cut back that spending, we will end up looking like North Korea with his starving masses, its uneducated, its weak economy. NKorea has a strong, lock-step military marching around, a nuclear weapons program but they have nothing else so what good does it do the people living there if that is all they have?
Looks like Romney and Ryan are finish, well they have Mitts elevator if they need a lift !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ryan is not talking about a strong military, he is talking about a strong military industrial complex.
There is a difference.
Also, voting against a jobs bill for veterans is not voting against a strong military. Discharged veterans are replaced, thus maintaining military strength.
It's just a political issue of WHEN to throw them under the bus, while they are still in uniform, or after they are discharged.
Regardless, considering the state of veterans health, mental, and economic well being, they are still going to be thrown under the bus.
Gotta be revenue neutral for those tax cuts.
and that's why he will ask Mitt Romney to make his 5 sons enlist so they can serve their country
Sailcat & Jody,
Good point about the need to reduce military spending by 25%.
Why aren't people standing up and shouting this when Ryan states that the only way to "save" Medicare is to turn it over to the private sector?
The lies this guy tells. . . and gets away with. . . .
elliot-3020456
Sorry you feel so "forced". You fit right in with Romney's views.
We need a strong military? The US has 11 carrier battle groups. That's more than the rest of the world combined.
How much stronger do we need to be?
Ray in Jax
whether Ryan really calls Romney the Stench or not, I don't know. We won't know until we see another secret tape. But if he does (which I think he does), doesn't that speak volumes of Ryan? Why is he playing the victim? He wasn't forced to accept the VP position. He made his own bed so now he should live with the consequences of his choices.
DB Akron
That would be true. And to be honest, it was legislation designed to never go into effect. A strong military has never been a waffle moment for the GOP.
That doesn't mean we need to maintain the level of the defense budget driven by two unfunded wars, though. Let's get back to the pre-war funding levels that were legitimately funded.
This isn't an Obama differentiation... this was something he had to say or face immediate criticism. I give him a pass on this one.
The Secret Service could use Stench as it's code name for Romney. I guess Ryan could be Turd Blossom.
(sigh) These guys just cannot stay on message can they? Their only path to the White House is the economy and I keep trying to tell them that, but they just won't listen. They've got those shiny new shotguns and they are going to use them whether it's bird season or not.
Here's a news flash Mr. Ryan. Despite what the defense contractors have told you as they handed you those big contributions, we do not need another missile, we do not need another tank, we do not need anymore hardware. We have the finest, most technologically advanced military in the world. We're good, thanks, for at least another five to ten years when technology will take another giant leap. We can afford to be a little leaner with regards to defense spending in order to reduce that deficit you're so worried about AND keep the social safety nets that most Americans need and want.
It's the economy stupid!
Oh well, it's too little too late anyway.
There would be some kind of justice if Ryan would also lose his Congressional re-election bid, but no hope of that I'm sure.
Obama/Biden 2012
elliot-3020456
again quoting breitbart, I see. WOW.
I haven't read the news lately, I thought we had a strong military. What happened to the 15:1 ratio over the next 10 largest combined countries Ryan?
sailcat
the same CIA that had nothing on the coordinated attack in Libya, the same CIA that said Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. Wow
Pigotry Hate to burst your bubble but Obama's diplomacy to win people isn't working no matter how you cut it.
Obama may be book smart not so much street smart.
richard,
Let's get this straight. The CIA, according to John Wilson, had reported that yellow cake uranium claim was probably false since it was based on forged Italian sourced documents. This is why Cheney and his aide Scooter Libby outed Valerie Plame. Cheney also setup his own intelligence unit in the Pentagon to promote this false claim about yellow cake uranium.
The CIA, when pressured by White House (Cheney?) yielded to Pentagon intelligence unit on this. When Colin Powell was preparing his UN remarks, he threw out bunches of apparently unsubstantiated claims of WMD in Iraq from Cheney's Pentagon unit, but he regrets going with other false claims to make his case for war in Iraq.
The CIA is not always able to accurately know what is going on in every part of the world, but they usually produce the best intelligence we have. They do an even better job when they are not pressured by neo-con political hacks to produce a specified set of "facts".
As to Libya, for years it was difficult for the CIA to operate there. Recently, this has changed, but small terrorist operations can go undetected when they operate independently of any centrally coordinated operation.
For example, the KKK was infiltrated by FBI in mid 1960's, but that did not stop independent KKK members and sympathizers from continuing to commit violent acts even though their central organization was compromised.
Military, military! Gwaddamn! We can well guard our beans now! Problem is , the average American ain't got no beans. We need to concentrate on stocking the peoples pantry. I don't mean just roughage either! I mean some JAM! Aye Gwad, we want it put on a shelf we can reach too! Republicans! Pack of Gwaddamn heathens!
Stupid comment Ryan, we HAVE a strong military!
We seem to pretend as though a powerful economy is just the natural state of things and that a strong military is just this peripheral entity that is just some relic of the past distracting us from what's "REALLY" important, and preventing the us from "solving problems at home."
As if a reasonably stable world order, a steady supply of natural resources, and secure lines of trade/communication are events that would just happen on their own!!!
How stable do you think trade lines would be if the U.S. Army took the lid off the kettle in South Eastern Europe, or the Korean Penninsula, or the Gulf Region? How would the shipping industry be doing without the protection of the U.S. Navy? You seem to enjoy driving your vehicles up and down the streets all day - how much driving do you think you'd be doing if we stopped funding the Saudi Military, stopped helping Israel, and withdrew COMPLETELY from the Middle East? Not very much, I can tell you that...
It's one thing to want to avoid unnecessary wars. Its quite another to dilude oneself into thinking that we can have a massive economy without a strong military. Thats just incredibly naive bumper-sticker type thinking.
shaak:
What was Massachusetts unemployment numbers during his term and what were the national numbers?
Also, what do economists consider full employment?
Right-on Ryan... When losing, go for the guns and bible... That's just the republican way...
The most important thing right now is that EVERYONE get out and vote... Forget what the polls say...
We already have the strongest military in the world. What we need are smarter leaders for it.
Let's just look at the last two large engagements for our military: Iraq and Afghanistan. C'mon, 10 years to subdue two countries smaller than some US states? WWI lasted 4 years and WWII lasted 6 years. These were wars fought on a global scale.
The idiots in charge, good Republican businessmen, lost sight of the goal. More worried about Halliburton's profits than US security, they dithered until the clock ran out and then retired to live in luxury with "thank you's" from Halliburton.
President Obama is waging war the smart way. Al Quaeda is the enemy. Al Quaeda doesn't have a country. Al Quaeda is spread among many countries with a distributed network of operatives. How do you fight a ground war against this? You can't!
What you can do is make it very, very dangerous to be an Al Quaeda leader. Obama has done that.
abcnews, Sep 30, 2011:
There's Osama bin Laden, of course, killed in May.
Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) leader Anwar al-Awlaki as of today.
Earlier this month officials confirmed that al Qaeda's chief of Pakistan operations, Abu Hafs al-Shahri, was killed in Waziristan, Pakistan.
In August, 'Atiyah 'Abd al-Rahman, the deputy leader of al Qaeda was killed.
In June, one of the group's most dangerous commanders, Ilyas Kashmiri, was killed in Pakistan. In Yemen that same month, AQAP senior operatives Ammar al-Wa'ili, Abu Ali al-Harithi, and Ali Saleh Farhan were killed. In Somalia, Al-Qa'ida in East Africa (AQEA) senior leader Harun Fazul was killed.
Administration officials also herald the recent U.S./Pakistani joint arrest of Younis al-Mauritani in Quetta.
Going back to August 2009, Tehrik e-Taliban Pakistan leader Baitullah Mahsud was killed in Pakistan.
In September of that month, Jemayah Islamiya operational planner Noordin Muhammad Top was killed in Indonesia, and AQEA planner Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan was killed in Somalia.
Then in December 2009 in Pakistan, al Qaeda operational commanders Saleh al-Somali and 'Abdallah Sa'id were killed.
In February 2010, in Pakistan, Taliban deputy and military commander Abdul Ghani Beradar was captured; Haqqani network commander Muhammad Haqqani was killed; and Lashkar-e Jhangvi leader Qari Zafar was killed.
In March 2010, al Qaeda operative Hussein al-Yemeni was killed in Pakistan, while senior Jemayah Islamiya operative Dulmatin - accused of being the mastermind behind the 2002 Bali bombings – was killed during a raid in Indonesia.
In April 2010, al Qaeda in Iraq leaders Abu Ayyub al-Masri and Abu Omar al-Baghdadi were killed.
In May, al Qaeda's number three commander, Sheik Saeed al-Masri was killed.
In June 2010 in Pakistan, al Qaeda commander Hamza al-Jawfi was killed.
Remember when Rudy Giuliani warned that electing Barack Obama would mean that the U.S. played defense, not offense, against the terrorists?
If this is defense, what does offense look like?
The world has become a dangerous place for Al Quaeda leaders. And Obama built that. George W. Bush, in 8 years of continuous war on two fronts, couldn't do that!
Now, Mitt Romney has hired a large percentage of Bush's old advisors. Do we really want to abandon Obama's approach and return to Bush/Romney's?
slightlyold ...
My apologies. I was up late last night and when I shut off my computer I remembered Peterson. Thanks for the correction!
Obama/Biden 2012
That sounds somehow disingenuous from a member of a party that pushed to get over 4,000 US Service Members killed for the sake of their president's ego.
Romney and Ryan support our military I guess that it only applies when they are risking their lives because their party,Rep/T.P. don't believe in supporting them when they have retired and are then looking for work. The Rep.T.P. voted down Obama's attempt to have employers give more jobs to retired military. If a person is long time Military they are finding it very difficult to get employment in this Republican extended unemployment environment. Our President is sympathetic to their problem and is trying to aid them but has been defeated in his attempts by the Republican Tea Party .Shame on them!
Well said, ol' Doc!
Romney's kind believes fighting and dying for one's country is for the working man's children and it is not the responsibility of the privileged scions of the elite to soil their hands in such an indelicate enterprise.
When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, many strategists suggested that the Cold War arms race had bankrupted its economy and caused its downfall. More than 20 years later, it appears that some in Washington are driving the U.S. toward a similar fate.
Paul Ryan wants a strong military, he just does not want to pay for it. He, like the entire Republican party, wants to have their wars, just not as part of the budget.
When the war is over, and the soldier's come home with broken bodies and minds, the Republican party can be depended on to eliminate the VA.
The Republican plan for our veterans is a hardy handshake (for those who still have their hands) and a simple FU.
What a crock! Please pull your head out of arse, you're an embarrassment. That's why the majority of military persons SUPPORT republicans you dolt.
No, they don't, Dottie.
http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/05/13/us-usa-poll-military-idUSBRE84C02120120513
You know, Dottie, if you got a big enough crowbar you just might be able to pry your head out of the dark, smelly orifice in which it is currently lodged. Hope this helps!
And Aurora/Arapahoe county is where they named their new jail after a retired sheriff with the same tastes and the drugs to support them.
Neither of thes facts has anything to do with this article or the 2012 campaign.
What a crock dotties girl? ...really?
We currently spend more that twice as much on Defense as the top 10 nations combined...What does it cost to keep us safe? Oh, I forgot. You need the the extra money for the optional wars like Iraq.
As to military personnel voting republican...for the last 10 years or so you are somewhat correct. For the last 10 years FOX News was about all you could get on military installations...that's changing.
But more important than "how do soldiers feel about Republicans is...how do Republicans feel about soldiers" you know they are part of the 47%, right? If you have the guts...google "Maria Meacham arrested in DC". That's how Republicans feel about our service members. All this concern about defense spending is about money to defense contractors, NOT our defense. You madam are a corporate tool.
So if Ryan thinks we need a strong military why did he vote for defense cuts? If he loves our military so much why has he voted 4 times against programs to help veterans? The guy is a real piece of sh*t.
If they really want to cut cost's they need to pull all the civilian company's out of the mess halls. We can cook are own food and wash are own dishes like we used to. They can also pull the civilian company's off of the gates on all bases and let put us back in on them. Doing these 2 small things would save billions and increase the size of the military.

Again, Ryan is not telling the truth.
Obama did not want the automatic spending cuts to go into effect in January 2012.
The president did not want "devastating defense cuts."
The right wing stands on its "war machine."
It is amazing how Ryan is fighting for another war. Yet he cannot find any logic in his mind and "well spring" in his heart to advocate for health care and Social Security for our seniors, medical care for the rest of our citizens, jobs bills for the unemployed, funding for education and regulations to temper the greed on Wall Street. Without a war, and suppressing the majority of Americans citizens, the right does not have any purpose for existence.
The GOP's "small government" agenda is only small when it comes to helping "the little people."
Obama/Biden 2012
Sorry Fuzzy,
Turd Blossom is running Citizens United/ American Crossroads.
The USA spends more on "defense" than EVERY OTHER COUNTRY IN THE WORLD COMBINED.
in fact, we could cut 50% out of the "defense" budget and STILL spend more than the next 4 COUNTRIES COMBINED
We already have the strongest military in the World. What the - is Ryan talking about.
Obama is using 'shock and awe' in drone attacks -- killing al Qaeda members; Obama is also using diplomacy to win people over around the world.
Obama is smart - speak softly (diplomacy) and carry a big stick (shock and awe), Obama is smart
hmm, that must be why they are burning him in effigy all over the Middle East right now.
You worship a false idol.
Right on Target Elliot.... lol
Elliott, do you not see a major difference between effigy figures being burned and thousands killed in New York City?
Elliot's brotheren, Santorum, has a phrase exclusively meant for Elliot. Not the brightest bulb on the porch. But I'll tell ya, the new corkscrew design makes him .... <fill in the blank>
Elliot was seen recently tossing this up:
You suppose they should love him for killing Bin Laden and scores of Al Qaeda leaders?
You are always quick to jump on stories and offer nothing of intelligence. Do you talk to empty chairs too?
Where?
Elliot
If you would leave your mother's basement and get out into the world you might see a few things. My husband works overseas. We travel a lot and you would be astounded at the difference the President has made. Bush was absolutely despised for his cowboy 'if you aren't with us, you're against us' attitude. The President is respected and has restored much of the world's faith that America really does stand for something good.
Ryan Carry's a big stick for a little worm !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Duh! We already have the strongest. Where have you been Budget Boy? Pull your head out!
Ryan is still lyin'. Spot on TBT! The man is an idiot!
Sorry but Ryan is beyond a idiot !!!
"We respect you, we appreciate you and we will back you because we need you."
Until your out of the military and are in the 47% of Americans we don't give a damn about. That's why we killed Obama's bill to help you get jobs once you leave the military. Yes, another jobs bill killed by repulsivecons.
@RedDevPS******#2.5: Elliot is a damp match. The more you strike it, the more He/She smells.
At least if this president takes a vacation to Europe won't be arrested for crimes against humanity.
Are you kidding me...now they're not even waiting for soldiers to come home. Want to see how the Republicons really feel about our (47%) soldiers... google "Maria Meacham gets Arrested in DC".
Go ahead Neo-Cons...talk your way out of that.
We have the largest defense budget in the world yet they say medicare and social security is broke. What is wrong with this picture?
"We need a strong military... made up of other peoples' children!"
Pandering tool, life-long government toady, never served, but looooves him some war-mongering for the military industrial complex that owns his scrawny arse.
dsb Wrote...
"The President is respected and has restored much of the world's faith that America really does stand for something good."
I believe you have stepped completely outside yourself with that one.....LMAO! He is not "respected" for his restoration of our World reputation.....He is however favored as a Leader by the 3rd world nutcases because he lacks the Balls to slap them in their smart mouth when they step up and talk sh*t on us, If you don't think that is the case... see the actions in the wee hours as our flag was replaced with a black Islamic flag at our Embassy in Benghazi, and our ambassador and 3 others were KILLED by an unruly mob of Terrorists. That was a direct attack on our Soil and a blatant disrespect of our National Flag! We should have went Samsonite Go-F*cking-rilla on those sumb*tches most riki tik.... but what did we do....Facking Apollogize for offending them.... WTF! Yes... they do love him.....and for that he MUST GO!
Justanothervet, I believe Osama bin Laden would disagree with you if he wasn't fish food. You know why Al Quada attacked the embassy iin Libya? Because we killed their #2 too, and he was from Libya. War isn't pretty and it isn't easy and sometimes innocents get killed. I'd think you'd know that. Oh, and btw, veterans are expendable to R'money. You're part of the 47% now...
Ok... riddle me this, We kill their #2....they storm our embassy in a few countries, replacing our flags and killing folks and destroying stuff....right? You with me....? They do this over a #2 guy... So that being said....We kill OBL The Head Cheese...king sh*t on turd hill.....and nothing happens.... no embassy storming.. no killing.. no public outcry to speak of from them.....WHY? What part of that makes any Facking sense to you liberals?.... Let me give you a hint..... The outcry and storming and public unrest for OBL happened in 2001....WHY? hmmmm That poor bastard has been dead for years.... that's why! But it's much easier for you guys to tout that B.O got him....and my oh my.. what a poll booster that made for an election year.....I call Bullsh*t! So keep on believing the nonsense that this administration is spouting up front, while all the time buttonhooking your a$$ from behind and selling you out. Remember B.O will have much greater flexibility after the election is over.....What ever was he talking about????? I for one hope we never have to find out!
All Neo-Cons want is another War. All they can think about is shafting the American citizens & any Country's that would profit them by doing so.
Buddy, our country didn't profit from the last several wars.
The only time we have came out economically ahead after a war was when we and several other nations bombed all of europe and japan into oblivion and we were the only industrial nation left standing to sell them what they needed to rebuild.
No, our country didn't profit from it, elliot. But Halliburton sure as hell did.
All our country did was pay for it... and STILL are.
Tell that 2 BlackWater & Halliburton and the $ elite who made profit off of the death of American Solders!
Do You think munitions and security forces are free? I don't know what world you live in but around here we have to pay for things, yes even weapons.
Of course munitions and forces are not free. That's why we are still paying for it. And why Cheney and his cronies are rolling in dough.
Could anyone explain how Blackwater and Halliburton profited from our forces getting killed? I'm lost.
So you have a problem with people investing in American companies now?
I think your tinfoil hat is on too tight.
LOL. They didn't profit from our forces dying. They profited from the BILLIONS that they took in from taxpayers.
Weak argument, pal.
Yeah, neo-cons!
those ex-cons have been belligerent.
They sent middle-class kids to fight for big oil; they themselves have dodged service, such as George W. Bush. Neo-cons have also allowed huge profits to defense contractors. They have every incentive to invade more countries.
Just a little thought from The Nation ...
http://www.thenation.com/article/168002/how-much-does-washington-spend-defense#
Halliburton has been investigated for several questionable invoices for fuel and food in Kuwait and in Iraq. They have profited handsomely during the wars. Cheney's stock value has gone up 3000%.
Elliot, you don't even have a clue... Investing in U.S. companies isn't the issue; having politicians with trigger fingers and personal investments in defense contractors is...
http://www.halliburtonwatch.org/news/pentagon_auditors.html
Actually, Charlie, the US could cut its current military spending by 25% and still outspend the next ten countries put together. It is worth noting that most of those ten countries are our allies, too. The bottom line is, we need to slash our defense spending...now!
HalliburtonWatch? Is that you Michael Moore?
People own things in this country, its one of the things that sets apart from the tyrannical dictatorships. People are also allowed to run for office.
Now when our military needs something are we required to find a source with no conflict of interest even if there is only one supplier? Or should we make the person sell all their positions then use them?
Halliburton was investigated for a decade now and there is nothing but conspiracy theories.
If you're not Michael Moore you must be that code pinko Cindy Shehann.
Elliot
Are you REALLY that DUMB? The government pays the defense contractors for all the equipment. Out tax dollars go directly into their pockets. And yes, much of the time it's a no-bid contract. That plus cost over-runs really add up.
Or do you think all those tanks, guns, bullets, food, uniforms, etc are just given to the military out of patriotism?
And don't tell me about HAL. My husband worked in the reconstruction effort. There's so much the public doesn't know it's scary.
Elliot, you are a right wing nut job. If you actually clicked on the link, everything reported is sourced to other news outlets. In fact, the page I linked has a link directly to TWSJ, the source of the article, which is a right leaning Rupert Murdoch newspaper; you know Murdoch, the owner of Fox News?
You consistently put your foot in your mouth when you post, you have been doing it for a long time now. When are you going to learn that your intelligence is outmatched by approximately 95% of the readers here?
Haliburton has settled criminal charges in the past by paying large fines. Since you aren't smart enough to locate the stories for yourself, I'll spoon feed you...
The first one is from Haliburton itself.....
http://www.halliburton.com/public/news/pubsdata/press_release/2009/corpnws_021109.html
http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-07-27/halliburton-says-has-started-internal-investigation-on-iraq-work
http://www.wsws.org/articles/2008/may2008/chen-m26.shtml
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/onpolitics/articles/halliburtonprimer.html
Elliot was recently seen coughing up the following:
How about bid contracts? Why was Haliburton offered no-bid contracts to supply fuel and food for the troops? They aren't the only large company capable of logistics. Many have speculated the no-bid contracts were a direct benefit to Cheney and other stockholders. They have also paid large fines to settle criminal charges for over billing the Government.
I know a girl who was stationed in the "Green Zone" in Iraq.
She said Haliburton (KBR) charged $46 for a six pack of Coke there. All that was billed to Elliot 3020.......and the party of fiscal prudence.
She lives in Colorado Springs right now with her husband who is a Colonel.
The last administration was nothing less than a giant GOP money laundering scheme. Money was contributed by Democratically-inclined taxpayers, sent to pay Custer-Battles, Blackwater and KBR in Iraq, and then sent back to the GOP via campaign contributions.
All neat, sweet and legal. The most massive taxpayer rape in the history of civilization where dumptrucks filled with nails were dumped in the desert because they were too short, and $200,000 heavy trucks were torched because they got a flat tire and didn't have a spare.
All courtesy of the GOP.
But that money had to be burned up as fast as possible before the incoming Democratic administration got ahold of it and spent it on empowering the Middle Class by recharging the social safety net. Soc. Sec. would have been solvent till the year 4000, but no. Bush had to blow the money.
For two yellow belly draft dodgers, Romney and Ryan have a lot to say about our military, as a Vet I see these two Clowns as looney tune Cowards !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
People owned things in Nazi Germany. People own things in Iran. People own things in China....it doesn't set us apart.
So, you're telling me that Halliburton was the only "General Contractor" out there? And it just so happened to be Dick Cheney's old company...how convenient.
In the latest in the long line of corporate scandals involving the Bush Administration, Halliburton, the energy giant formerly run and still largely influenced and controlled by Vice-President Dick Cheney, has announced that it will repay the US government over $27.4 million after it was discovered that it had grossly overcharged for the meals it supplies to the US military in Iraq. This follows on the heels of the discovery of bribery on the part of Halliburton agents who overcharged the military $6.3 million for fuel delivered to bases in Iraq and Kuwait. ...and the beat goes on.
Neo-Conservative mantra..."if you can't attack the message...attack the messenger". Classic Elliot
88,000,000,000.00 on war spending
64,000,000,000.00 on education.
What's wrong with this picture? Come on America we can do better!
Keep the War Mongering Republicans out of Office!
GOP-Where did we go wrong !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ryan- if u think 4 one minute that the American public would feel safe with u anywhere near a place of true military power in this country u need an appointment with a Doctor immediately.
Ryan and his crazy tea buddies would destroy the world if they had the power, they scare the hell out of me, a vote for them is insanity !!!!!
Republicans love to claim Democrats are weak on defense.
Slight problem with story though... the last time we were attacked on our homeland was under Bush. The last time we made the prick that caused that to happen was under Obama.
Exactly, why don't they ask the Somali Pirates or Osama Bin Laden how weak our President Obama is!
Sorry... meant to say... The last time we made the prick pay that caused that to happen was under Obama.
Give credit to Obama for killing this bad guy.
But if you do, you also have to give credit to Bush for toppling the entire fundamentalist theocracy of the Taliban in Afghanistan. Their iron grip on the country was brutal, especially against women. Bush changed that.
Changing the entire government of a country is, by any measure, a far more significant accomplishment than killing one aging straggler from the organization that President Bush defeated. Then Obama crowed that it was the "high point in my presidency!"
In fairness, I agree with him – it was the high point in his otherwise-failed presidency.
Bush toppled the entire fundamentalist theocracy of the Taliban in Afghanistan? Really?? Then why are we still fighting the pricks?
OOTS questions the fact that Bush toppled the entire fundamentalist theocracy of the Taliban in Afghanistan.
It's hard to believe that such ignorance could exist. The following quote from http://www.afghan-web.com/woman/ should help enlighten him:
"During the rule of the Taliban (1996 - 2001), women were treated worse than in any other time or by any other society. They were forbidden to work, leave the house without a male escort, not allowed to seek medical help from a male doctor, and forced to cover themselves from head to toe, even covering their eyes. Women who were doctors and teachers before, suddenly were forced to be beggars and even prostitutes in order to feed their families.
Since the fall of the Taliban in late 2001, many would agree that the political and cultural position of Afghan women has improved substantially. The recently adopted Afghan constitution states that "the citizens of Afghanistan - whether man or woman- have equal rights and duties before the law". So far, women have been allowed to return back to work, the government no longer forces them to wear the all covering burqa, and they even have been appointed to prominent positions in the government."
OOTS also says "why are we still fighting the pricks?" He will have to argue with Obama about that. During his DNC speech, Obama bragged, "We've blunted the Taliban's momentum in Afghanistan."
Kannin... insulting me does not prove your point.
The fact is, ALL Bush did was make the roaches run from the light for a while and propped up a puppet figurehead who is as clueless as he was. Nothing has truly been accomplished long term. As soon as we leave, the roaches will reclaim their nest and they will be right back where they were in 1996.
I will agree with you on one thing... Obama should pull out NOW. These people are scum and always will be. They have proven they have no desire for real freedom.
OOTS - Sorry if I insulted you. I apologize.
Yeah, that's probably true. Despite Obama bragging, "We've blunted the Taliban's momentum in Afghanistan," it looks like the Taliban are already anticipating NATO's departure, so they can take their country back into the dark ages. The Taliban will once again establish their brutal tyranny over Afghanistan. They will once again provide a safe haven for Muslim terrorists. And they will once again build their suicide bombs and plan yet more attacks on the civilized world. What a waste.
It is, perhaps, small comfort to realize that the citizens of the country who refused to fully support the NATO forces will be back under the oppressive boot heel of the Muslim extremists. Maybe they will regret their cowardice.
I'm sure their women will.
Kannin... Thank you for the apology. The bottom line is we are both Americans and want the best for our country and our troops.
We may not agree on the best way to accomplish that, but I am sure we both have good intentions. We must ALL try to have civil discourse for the true good of America.
OOTS - 100% agreement and a thumbs-up for your post!
TruthBTold999
If you give him credit for OBL, then he has to also take credit for leaving 4 American unarmed for a pack or wolfs to KILL, sodomize and their bodies dragged thru the streets like they were less then human.
He may have been on Watch when the SEALS killed OBL, He DID NOT Kill him. And how is it that after he was dead he so much as said al-Qaeda was dead, But they were involved in the Attack on our Embassy.
And if you want references I will supply them, Altho it just goes to show how true it is that Libs don't know how to do research and only believe what the HQ Obama Team tells them to.
Times-Running-Out... I can see you have no appreciation for the conversation Kannin and I just had. Neither party and NO leader has always been correct on all issues.
We live in a very difficult time. The world has shrunk and we live in a 24/7 digital world where unproven accusations abound. Any world leader can not honestly be responsible for EVERYTHING that happens. If Romney wins in November, I assure you that we will be attacked again by someone, somewhere. Please open your mind to this new world we live in.
OOTS:
Can you read? That post was not directed at you.
Yes, I can read. Was just hoping you might open your eyes.
Or did he now, Mr. Tora, Tora, Tora (attack, attack, attack) Kannin. This woman would beg to differ. Weird isn't it, it is no different than how Americans treat Blacks, gays, Hispanics. Kill 'em one, kill 'em all. Right Kannin the Barbarian? The GOPTP way!!
Conservative Values, Tora, Tora, Tora, War, War, War, Attack, Attack, Attack, Kill, Kill, Kill, Blood, Blood, Blood !!!!!!!!!!!!!
President Obama, No boots on the Ground, Drone Predator saves American life's, the intelligent way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
President Obama / 2012 Save the world from the GOP Warmongers !!!
Wrong. He didn't destroy the Taliban, he displaced them to Pakistan. Arguably their are still plenty of Taliban in Afghanistan. As the Taliban are members of the Pashtun (ethnic Afghans) and are merely the fundamentalists of the society, they will simply return to power when we leave; this isn't rocket science. All GW did was inconvenience them.
Face it, the Texas Village Idiot screwed the pooch. He took his eye off of Afghanistan and invaded a sovereign nation that had nothing to do with 911. Not surprising in that he was simply an empty suit for Cheney and the Neo-Conservatives who actually held power in this Country.
Just like the Neo-Con's empty suit currently running against Obama. If you question that statement...look up who Willard's foreign affairs advisers are
.
He was always against them, but for the sake of meeting a stubborn Obama (entitlements) he had to offer up spending some specific defense cuts so there was across the board cuts. Your statement is incorrect and only representing one side.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/post/understanding-the-battle-over-the-looming-defense-cuts/2012/09/10/3ba236ac-fb9c-11e1-b153-218509a954e1_blog.html
HeReigns,
Keep putting that lipstick on your pig!
HeReigns
Are you high or merely ill informed? The defense cuts in question are part of the Sequestration. Look up "Sequestration". Briefly they are a series of "across the board" cuts to the federal budget which the Democrats in Congress had to agree to in order to get the Tea Party freshmen to approve raising the debt ceiling.
But don't let the facts get in your way...
We need a STRONG military !!!!!
You never know when we might have to start another war based on lies to search for fantasy based WMD's..
Just sayin'
IRAN
I have never ever seen in my 65 years, two clowns like Mis-fit Mitt and Lyin Ryan. If I was a member of the GOP I would be so embarrassed that they call themselves qualified to run for anything. Neither one has a drop of integrity nor brains. Each day that goes by, they say something that is different than they really truly believe. Where ever they go they say whatever they think the crowd wants to hear, I bet if they went into a dog kennal, they would even bark. And what is really ironic, they have been caught in so many lies, yet their cult have the nerves to claim how much the liberals lie.
What a contrast to Obama who said (in effect) that he would bow to Russian demands to kill our missile defense program if he is re-elected.
Sorry, gotta call BULL@!$%# on this one. He never said any such thing.
We tune in on a conversation that has been going on for an hour and a half. The subject is the missile defense issue. Obama responds he needs to wait until after the election to solve it. What do you think the Russian position was, to which Obama was responding?
Here is the exact transcript of the conversation. Can you spin it so that it doesn't foretell a planned capitulation on missile defense?
Obama: On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved but it's important for him to give me space.
Medvedev: Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you...
Obama: This is my last election…After my election I have more flexibility.
Medvedev: I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir.
Let me restate the dialog with what I consider to be the subtext: Medvedev: "We want the US to kill its missile defense program in return for Russian support of your Middle East policy." Obama: "I will do will do what you say, but if I agree now, I won't get reelected. Please wait." Medvedev: "Vladimir might go for it, but it will cost you."
Well what YOU consider to be an unstated subtext makes me laugh. You are postulating an opinion. I could do the same.
Maybe Medvedev said "We want you to downsize your nuclear arsenal since you could destroy the world 100 times over." And the maybe Obama said "I might reduce it somewhat if you give us your support in Syria."
See? I can make @!$%# up too.
Obama acknowledged that the issue was missile defense, not arsenal reduction. And why would arms reductions hurt his reelection chances? Sorry, your theory doesn't work. Care to try again?
What is missile defense other than the ability to deliver warheads and stop warheads. We have a huge advantage on both counts. I can not seriously believe that you think Obama would weaken our country to a point of defenselessness no matter how much you may personally dislike him.
OOTS:
SEOUL // Barack Obama, the US president, said yesterday he would slash more stockpiles of US nuclear warheads and will press Russia to do the same.
Speaking on the sidelines of the world’s biggest summit of leaders on the nuclear issue, Mr Obama did not say how many more nuclear weapons the US would cut. But he said it would involve tactical nuclear weapons, as well as strategic and reserve warheads.
OOTS - According to the Federation of American Scientists, a renowned organization for assessing nuclear weapon stockpiles, Russia possesses the largest stockpile of weapons of mass destruction in the world.[2]
Neither side has any significant capability to stop warheads, although the US has far superior technology (The Russians have the nuclear ABM "GALOSH" which is essentially useless).
And yes, I do believe that Obama buys into the left wing Union of Concerned Scientist's opposition to missile defense:
Times-Running-Out:
The ability to destroy the entire world would be only 50 times over if we cut our stockpile in half. Last time I checked, it can only be destroyed once. How much is enough to make you happy?
Dang OOTS! This is the second time I have to give you a "thumbs-up" If I keep this up, they will take away my "Conservative" card.
Kannin... LOL. I have Republican friends and family in the real world. Sometimes I just want to knock 'em in the head but I still love them.
Sometimes they want to knock me in the head but I duck. LOL
Peace to you and all of us.
Got to call BS as well. I would love to hear Kannin spin the 47% tape as well....
@kannin#10.2: I have a copy of that recording. That one has been stretched and had more lies added to it than "holmes penis". It was about the missile defense system. He told the Russian President "He would have more flexibility to discuss this after the elections". I see no problem with the statement. I also have one with JFK on the "Red Phone" talking to Russian Premiere Khrushchev during the Cuban missile crisis. JFK; "Mr Chairman! There are powerful people over here chomping to get our 2 countries into war! I can't control 'em much longer. I need your help in negotiating a peaceful solution here. You need to tell me what I need to give for you to get out of Cuber". Etc., etc. These kinds of personal communiques have taken place historically with many of our past leaders and foes, and thankfully so. Enough with the bullsh^t already.
Rburn ### -- " Where ever they go they say whatever they think the crowd wants to hear, I bet if they went into a dog kennel, they would even bark."
That's funny. At least it made me laugh.
Contrast that to Obama's message, which doesn't change to please whatever crowd is at hand. One team is pandering, the other has conviction. One preaches despair, the other hope. One is false, the other genuine.
Okay, I think I've made my point: Obama/Biden 2012!
COinFL
There is a Big difference between 'preaching despair' and Stating the Facts.
Time
You're right. Except that Romney and Ryan change their 'facts' every time the wind blows in a different direction.
Lol...the Pentagon itself has said it doesn't NEED any more money!
But Romney wants to give it more anyway, to keep his fatcat war profiteer friends cash rich!
We don't need more war! Bring the soldiers home and INVEST IN AMERICA! Spend the money domestically!
We need a strong military, but did we thank the military or even make a reference to them at the RNC, people that want to run our country, don't even stop and thank the people fighting for that country? R&R clueless!
Why did the Veterans Jobs Act get blocked in the Senate?
The usual Republican talk, we need a strong military, to cut tax's and deregulate!
O&JOE
@Kannin, President Obama did not in effect say that so stop already! It is getting real old with you on the other side! Also you said that Bush changed an entire country and its government. If that is true then we should have left right? We are still there because Bush never did do that. If you have not noticed the Taliban is still going strong unfortunately, All Bush did was put in a compete moron karzai who has been draining money from us since day 1. Sorry but I think that killing that loser Bin Laden was a he^& of alot more important accomplishment done by this president then whatever the last admin did considering that bush himself said he never thought about Bin Laden, WTH! Why can't karzai leave his compound without security if Bush did all that? Why is Karzai not governing the whole country? again because Georgie boy never did any of those things that you said in your posts, period! Nice try though but you failed!
Tina - Before Bush, women "were forbidden to work, leave the house without a male escort, not allowed to seek medical help from a male doctor, and forced to cover themselves from head to toe, even covering their eyes. Women who were doctors and teachers before, suddenly were forced to be beggars and even prostitutes in order to feed their families."
After Bush toppled the Taliban regime "women have been allowed to return back to work, the government no longer forces them to wear the all covering burqa, and they even have been appointed to prominent positions in the government."
But you, apparently, think all that is meaningless. Your blind support of Obama has severely clouded your judgment.
Give them He!! Kannin, But trying to talk Facts to them is like trying to bail out a sinking boat with a butterfly net.
So forcing other countries to accept and adopt our culture is American?
Our only mission is Afghanistan was to knock the Taliban out of power and capture or kill Osama bin Laden; you know, they guy that Romney would not have spent money on pursuing?
Romney to the A.P.:
This time, the POTUS can say "Mission Accomplished" and not be laughed at by world.
Bush on Osama Bin Laden's location:
Yeah, the GOP are our heroes when it comes to foreign affairs and policy... </sarcasm>
I posted this before, it is worth reposting here:
Hey Ryan, we have a strong military and they have been kicking butt for the last ten years with many giving their lives for senseless wars because of one of your own.
You and your pal Romney sure are desperate and say anything to get the uninformed to vote for you.
The military expenditures of USA is #1, which is $711 bn., 4.7% GDP. The second place is China, whose expenditures is $143.0 bn., 2.0% GDP. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_military_expenditures)
USA is almost 6 times more than the second place. How would Ryan make that kind of statement?
USA has a very strong military foundation.
This is typical GOP Bull. Who isn't in favor of a strong military? Wasn't it Obama who put the order on Bin Ladn? And the Al Queda operatives? And supporting our troops by getting them out of harm's way--when the GOP put them into Iraq under false intelligence when thousands ended up dead, limbs and faces shot off, PTSD, and military marriages collapsing as a result at a rate 50% greater than the national average? And where was oh-so-Ryan when it came to the war and killing all debt-financed--except the rehab of the soldiers that was NEVER taken into account?????
Ryan is in favor of all kinds of military corporate welfare even the Pentagon opposes. Ryan can't be trusted, obviously.
Ryan--what a total fake.

If you insist on giving obama credit for OBL, then he also has to take credit for the DEATHS of 4 AMERICANS Killed because he would not heed the warnings.
Times-Running-Out...
OK you win. Obama is guilty for the death of 4 Americans. Now, are you willing to accept that Bush was responsible for the death of over 2000 Americans for not heading the warnings he had?
Now 4,000 Iraq-Afghanistan deaths and climbing. Plus the 40% of returning vets with PTSD. C'mon, MR. Ryan. You chance to speak. American awaits your moral leadership in accepting accountability and responsibility you and MR. Romney extol. We await patienty. Very "patiently", apparently.
Wow...its so true. During his term "Barry and the Choom gang" have earned so much respect throughout the world, the U.S, will never have to go to war again. Well, as long as Hillary can continue dodging "rotten fruit" I guess.....you LIB TARDS are such stupid goobers....you're just comical. I scream laughing at you morons!!!
bucsabuser,
Something tells me that you 'scream' anyway, irrespective of whom you might be talking to.
Nice one....so far, you've gotten 4 other morons to "like" you....well then, like I have always said "you mindless LIB TARDS run in packs"...keep swiggin the kool aid goobers....your man has done a bang-up job so far.
bucsdad's argument is so logically sound.
We need a strong military... To do what attack Iran?
OK, someone explain this to me. Ryan is absolutely, totally committed to balancing the budget even if it involves devastating cuts in social programs that the least among us rely on simply to survive. But he's FOR large increases in the military budget. Simple math says this doesn't add up.
Ryan to Colorado voters: 'We need a strong military'
Sorry Paul, we already are the strongest..
Isn't it funny when it comes to any other kind of government funding for jobs programs in this country the republican's House answer is too bad, F off, not the job of government, private sector should create jobs.
But when it comes to their republican voting constituents who no doubt are the vast majority of defense contractor jobs, then suddenly government help and government funding is a must.
Maybe some of their republican voting defense contractor job employees should have to line up in the unemployment line like so many other millions of Americans have had to do and suffer because of their "OBSTRUCTIONISM"
Are these republican defense contractor workers suppose to be entitled to special treatment? Are they suppose to be better than the millions of other Americans that have had to stand in unemployment lines?
Maybe we should just say sorry republican defense contractor workers, we can't affford to pay you the ridiculous wages you no doubt are earning, because of the blank check the Pentagon has been given over the years.
Heres a tip though, go to a foreign country, join a militia that is fighting American soldiers and its very possible the Pentagon just might give you a weekly paycheck for not shooting at their soldiers. Thats what they did in Iraq. While back home they were voting down funds for unemployment extensions for American citizens. You know, cause of that darn deficit. I hear we're still at war in Afghanistan, better hurry though.
I wonder how you can say you're for a strong military yet vote against spending an amount equal to what we spend every few days in Afghanistan to assist returning veterans in finding a job.
It's easy....just ask any Republican in Congress!
We need a stronger military for Mitt's Wars: Iran, Syria, Russia etc etc.
Otherwise how do the Defense contractors get their investment back?
Consistent! Support Military Contractors, makes sense. No support for Military Veterans, makes no sense.
Except if sense is spelled cents, and dollars follow chased by many, many zeros.
Need jobs to pay taxes for Military Contractors, see that other guy.
If we want an economy that depends on Oil, and we don't want an economy that does not depend on oil, just to be clear, then we need a military economy that run and runs and runs on money, that we will borrow from OPEC. But don't tell them, we want the advantage of the element of surprise.
