TOLEDO, OH -- Mitt Romney on Wednesday pointed to the health care reform law he enacted as governor of Massachusetts as proof of his empathy and care for the American people.
In an interview with NBC News, Romney referenced an element of his record he almost never invokes on the campaign trail to answer a question about how he can better connect with Americans and prove he understands the lives and trials of middle class Americans.
"I think throughout this campaign as well, we talked about my record in Massachusetts, don't forget -- I got everybody in my state insured," Romney told NBC's Ron Allen in an interview before his rally here tonight. "One hundred percent of the kids in our state had health insurance. I don't think there's anything that shows more empathy and care about the people of this country than that kind of record."
A new CBS/New York Times poll shows Obama leading in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, Romney is focused on wooing the swing state of Ohio which has been won by every Republican who ever became president. NBC's Ron Allen reports.
Romney's health care law in Massachusetts has long been a lightning rod issue for conservatives, who unfavorably compare it to President Barack Obama's own federal law and as a damning reflection on Romney's conservative bonafides.
The former Massachusetts governor also touched on another portion of his biography that he seldom discusses to connect with average Americans: his time as a Mormon pastor.
"I think people have the chance, who watched our Republican convention, to see the lives that I've had a chance to touch during my life, to understand that as I served as a pastor of a congregation with people of all different backgrounds and economic circumstances that I care very deeply about the American people, people of different socio-economic circumstances," Romney told Allen.
Taking the stage for the final rally of his two-day Ohio bus tour moments later, Romney also spoke about the importance of compassion in his speech and said his interactions with Americans from all lots in life have shown him the greatness of America -- and that everyone has challenges of their own.
"You look around, you see everybody, they look happy, and you think everybody else is doing just fine, and you're the only one with problems. But the truth is, most people that you see have some real challenges in their life of one kind or another. I understand that," Romney said. "And I've seen that inside the heart of the American people, despite our challenges, is a conviction that this nation is the greatest nation in the history of the earth."

Romney has a great difficulty in being logical and consistent . The Tea Party , has caused him to adopt postures that are really not his own . The result is that he has to " etch and sketch " as he goes along . His credibility has been seriously undermined on essential issues like , healthcare , taxation for the richest Americians , banking regulations . He suffers guilt by association , on many women issues , the right of a woman to contraception , is allied in the minds of many with Limbaughs view , with which Romney has not distanced himself , that women requiring contraception are " sluts" . and the best form of contraception , is to put a 'aspirin" between her knees .Which makes Republician views on women similiar to that of the Taliban , save and except , the Republicians have not yet come out to question the right of women to drive motor vehicles . There is will be time for them to raise that issue , if a pair like Romney and Ryan , is in the White House .
They'll just tie us to the roof of the car and head out....

Folks the sad truth is that I am not a political person and
I do not get involved except for every four years. I use to listen to the news
to figure out who the better person would be to run this great country of ours.
I must tell you that four years ago I was impressed with Obama and I even
thought to myself that the media sure seems to like this guy. I was one of
those people that thought the media’s job was to tell both sides of the story
so that the people could form their own opinions.
I have to tell you after watching the news on TV, reading
the typical news coverage on the net like this one I started noticing that no
matter what happened in the US there was always an excuse to why President
Obama had nothing to do with it and it was caused because of the right or wall
street or the banks or the European money crisis or the latest because of some
stupid film clip on the net that offended someone and it was not an act of
terrorism (which turns out to be completely false and was an act of terrorism)
and if you watched news that favors the other guy, no matter what happens it is
always the Presidents fault.
So with this in mind I started doing my own research and
finding the facts on both candidates (not just taking what the media told me or
what I read from people that leave comments on sites like this). I have came to
realize that the media is very bios. They only tell half of the story or only the
parts that seem to benefit their agenda. Is comes form both the right and the
left. However after researching things I can tell you without a doubt there is
much more bios for Obama than for any one out there.
I voted for Obama in 08 but with all of the bios media
coverage that I see this time around I will probably not be voting for him again.
I think everyone knows that ALL politicians will tell you what you want to
hear. THEY ALL LIE! But now the media is doing the same thing that they use to
through a fit about!
Anyone that wants to know the truth and does the research
will see that President Obama has really done very little to make this a better
place to live. He takes credit for some of the things that you see today (wall
street, housing and so on) however if you research this as well you will see
that these things are only temporary and caused by non sustaining influences
and if things don’t change in breakneck speed things are going to get much
worse for all of us in this country.
Yes President Obama was dealt a bad hand but he d#*n well
knew that going into this job and that was what he told us in 08 and now says
he didn’t know it was that bad. BS! We all (everyone that has to worry about
their next pay check) knew how bad it was so this means he isn’t in touch with
any of us either or he is ling like politicians do.
Romney may not be the great speaker that Obama is or may not
even be the best America has to offer but if you research the all facts for
yourself you will see that he brings more to the table than President Obama
does.
I guess I should thank the media for opening my eyes and
forcing me to do my own research because I am completely shocked to what all
you can find if you just take the time to look for it. Sorry President but my
vote is going the other way this time. This country can’t take 4 more years of
this. Its time for a change and time the people start finding the real answers
instead of listening to the bios media out there!!!

I think of all the things Mitt Romney is going to do to this country and I shutter with fear. Obama man not have done much but noting is better than the whole lota something Mitt Romney is gonna do. Like Repealing minimum wage, ending the EPA (so our water and air are filled with toxic chemicals), moving public education to a voucher system that only benefits the rich, ending Obamacare so that people like my husband with "pre-existing" conditions can be thrown off his insurance. Mitt will allow drilling on public lands so imagine old faithfull with a couple of oil rigs in the picture. He will limit BC and abortions so we will have a population explosion in 20 years which will Further drive down wages!! Mitt will end unions and us workers will be at the mercy of corporations with no rights or benefits!
Mitt Romney's Presdency will be one that favors the multi-millionaires club. The same people who gouge us at the gas pump will be Mitt's best friends. The companies like Walmart who forced employees to clock out and then go back to work, will be writing labor laws, companies like Massey mining who was responsible for 29 miner deaths will be writting safety laws. Your afraid of Obama, you should be TERRIFIED of the sliverspoon fed bully, who thinks that workers should be happy earning $2 a day!!
EMPATHY, CATHOLICS and the POLLS
(Daniel Burke, Huffpost, Religion News Service, 09/27/2012) President Obama's support among Catholic voters has surged since June, according to a new poll, despite a summer that included the Catholic bishops' religious freedom campaign and the naming of Rep. Paul Ryan, a Catholic, as the GOP's vice-presidential candidate.
On June 17, Obama held a slight edge over Mitt Romney among Catholics (49-47 percent), according to the Pew Research Center. Since then, Obama has surged ahead, and now leads 54-39 percent, according to a Pew poll conducted on Sept. 16.
The Gospels tell us that we are to strive to be Christ-Like to use Christ as our "EXAMPLE" in life and in our decisions. Jesus, did not have an indifference to the poor, the aged or the disenfranchised, quite to the contrary he spoke for them. Jesus did not lie to his people in order to accomplish the greater good, if your message is good there is no reason to lie. I don't know what has happened to the Republican Party but they no longer share my Christian Values and as a Catholic, I will be voting for President Obama, he may not be perfect, but then NO ONE IS, but he does share my Christian Values. The HOLY SCRIPTURES reference the poor and social justice 300 times. Mitt Romney's reference to the 47% was anything BUT Christ-like. His on-going deceptive ads; his indifference to the struggles of the American Middle Class and the poor; and his immoral love of money over humanity are troubling to Catholics.
His new political ad, where he speaks directly to the camera, is a hollow attempt to gloss over the devastating realization that Mitt Romney cares only about his wealthy friends and not the 47% of Americans which include, seniors, veterans, students, our Troops in Harms way; the working poor, the sick and the poor in spirit. Fool me once shame on Mitt, fool "US" twice shame on "US" for accepting Mitt Romney continuing LIES and DECEPTIONS!
Catholics have a great responsibility to speak for those that are in need and to be Christ-like. Consumed with detestation for abortion, contraception and homosexuality the Republican Party have strayed far away from central core message of Jesus Christ, the Holy Bible, the Gospels and "CHRISTIAN VALUES", we are our brother's keeper!:

Ryan has received letters from American Catholic Bishops asking him to rethink his budget because it is harsh and unloving to the poor, the sick, the elderly, the disabled, and the disenfranchised.
As of yet, no changes.
No Church going decent Catholic would vote for Obama. Who he is and what he represents is 180 degrees opposite of our beliefs.

Just last week a bill designed to help Veterans that was written by 4 Republicans, was voted against by the Republicans. The party who cares so much for our VETERANS won't even help them get jobs or job training once they get home.

If you stop to count everyone who has EVER gotten some sort of "government" handout in this country the number would be closer to 96% rather than 47%of the country. Or in Mitt Romney's terms 96% of this country thinks they are "victims".
If anyone recieved a pell grant, or unemployment, or disablity or your child attended head start, or you went to a public school or your child goes to a public school, if you received any money from the government, Mitt Romney thinks you think your a "victim" and not worth his time. His own father would have fallen into this catagory of people Mitt Romney has written off.
Do you we really want a President who thinks 96% of this country isn't worth his time. If he wants to represent 4% of this country then only 4% of the country should vote for him!

What is the number of flip/flops that Mittens has now done on health-care-- too many to count. Now he's touting the health-care law in Massachusetts that covers the states population, while at the same time decrying the Affordable Care Act which does the same thing. He likes the Mass. law which he signed into law but says the ACA is a total intrusion of government into peoples lives. He flips to the right then flops to the left then flaps to one side then flubs to the other. Mittens has a serious mental deficiency which disqualifies him from being elected to any office. This is a very dangerous and mentally unbalanced person.

However, Time‘s Mark Halperin cordially asks David Axelrod about the President’s plan for Social Security, since he never mentioned it on 60 Minutes the night before …Axelrod begins to stutter…

You mean to tell me that Obama expects to campaign on the Pelosi-like plan of ‘elect me again, and then I’ll tell you what my plan is’? And then he has the nerve to smugly condescend, saying, “Mark, I’ll tell you what, when you get elected to the United States Senate and sit at that table…”

Well I'm a republican who supported Obama in 2008 but am having a hard time doing so this time around. I believe the GOP has screwed themselves this election for sure. I hope you guys are right and Obama is the man. We are going to see.

Drew, the deficit has increased because of the Bush wars and Bush economic collapse. Obama has reduced entitlements and has drawn the line for student loans and SS. We have received paybacks from GM, Chrysler and AIG. It is the banks who are on welfare.

Romney is so pathetic! Like all he has to do is just say: "Look, this shows I am a good person, but please don't look at everything else I said and did that shows the reverse!" Romney is such a fraud and he has such little respect for people, he thinks he can just say anything and have folks believe it, even though all of his actions goes against those words. He must think the general public is so stupid. He is starting to lose badly, and yet he still tells the world he and his campaign is fine! The American people need someone who deals with reality. Our economic situation is very real for most of us who don't have millions, but Romney is living on a cloud somewhere - come on down and get real with us Romney otherwise you are done as a candidate!

obama has the smallest increase in federal spending. he placed medicare part d and the two wars on budget(yep bush had them off budget-just borrow to cover) and this is the reason for the sizable increase

A difference is that Mitt's is state run....which is the right way as each state has different needs...Obama care is social health care run by the U.S. government..I do not need it...it the same thing they have in Europe and it stinks...

It meets the needs of the individuals in that state....Obama care is not going to solve the problem...Obama went at it the wrong way..He should have gone after two things...one the insurance companies, and the other is the general health of the average American...most of which can be blamed on overweight...to go after the problem where it needs to be attacked not 2700 pages of crude that you the average citizen can't read and understand.
