TOLEDO, OH -- Mitt Romney on Wednesday pointed to the health care reform law he enacted as governor of Massachusetts as proof of his empathy and care for the American people.
In an interview with NBC News, Romney referenced an element of his record he almost never invokes on the campaign trail to answer a question about how he can better connect with Americans and prove he understands the lives and trials of middle class Americans.
"I think throughout this campaign as well, we talked about my record in Massachusetts, don't forget -- I got everybody in my state insured," Romney told NBC's Ron Allen in an interview before his rally here tonight. "One hundred percent of the kids in our state had health insurance. I don't think there's anything that shows more empathy and care about the people of this country than that kind of record."
A new CBS/New York Times poll shows Obama leading in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, Romney is focused on wooing the swing state of Ohio which has been won by every Republican who ever became president. NBC's Ron Allen reports.
Romney's health care law in Massachusetts has long been a lightning rod issue for conservatives, who unfavorably compare it to President Barack Obama's own federal law and as a damning reflection on Romney's conservative bonafides.
The former Massachusetts governor also touched on another portion of his biography that he seldom discusses to connect with average Americans: his time as a Mormon pastor.
"I think people have the chance, who watched our Republican convention, to see the lives that I've had a chance to touch during my life, to understand that as I served as a pastor of a congregation with people of all different backgrounds and economic circumstances that I care very deeply about the American people, people of different socio-economic circumstances," Romney told Allen.
Taking the stage for the final rally of his two-day Ohio bus tour moments later, Romney also spoke about the importance of compassion in his speech and said his interactions with Americans from all lots in life have shown him the greatness of America -- and that everyone has challenges of their own.
"You look around, you see everybody, they look happy, and you think everybody else is doing just fine, and you're the only one with problems. But the truth is, most people that you see have some real challenges in their life of one kind or another. I understand that," Romney said. "And I've seen that inside the heart of the American people, despite our challenges, is a conviction that this nation is the greatest nation in the history of the earth."

Besides, as I said, it takes many of them a little longer to read an article and then it takes them even longer to process it. Even then they will be in complete denial. It was proven and confirmed that Obama and Clinton knew that the attack in Libya was a terrorist attack within 24 hours of the occurrence, yet they continued to push the clown Carney in our faces saying it was due to some stupid movie trailer. We all knew better than that when it happened, and Romney announced it when it happened (because our brave intelligent president wouldn't for fear it might bring the American people to think negative of him for not having a foreign policy plan in effect to secure our embassies on the anniversary of 9/11) and maybe it would cause him to explain how he screwed up. Of course, he only apologizes to Muslim countries, and never to American's for his failures. For us, as he so ignorantly thinks we will accept: it was just a "Bump in the Road".

"The president's strength results from the fact that for the first time in the entire campaign, he is seen as better able to fix the economy than is Romney. *** And the economy remains the overwhelming choice as the most important issue to voters' presidential choice."
Florida
Women likely voters back Obama 58–39%.*** The president would do a better job on health care, voters say 54-41% and do a better job on Medicare, voters say 55 - 40%. Voters over 55 say Obama would do a better job on Medicare 52-42% and back the president 53-45%. On the Middle East, Obama leads 53-46%. Voters says Obama cares more about their needs and problems by 57-40%. For 55-41%, "Romney doesn't care."
Ohio
Obama leads 60-35% among Ohio women likely voters. The president would do a better job on health care, voters say 54-40% and do a better job on Medicare by 55-39%. Voters over 55 say Obama would do a better job on Medicare 54-41% and back the president 52-44%. On the Middle East, it's Obama by 55-46%. Obama cares more about voter needs and problems by 59-38%. Voters, by 57-38%, say Romney doesn't care. In Ohio's U.S. Senate race, Democratic incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown leads State Treasurer Josh Mandel, the Republican challenger, 50-40%.
Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania women likely voters back Obama 58-37%. The GOP has been their own worst enemy and they now know it! Romney might be the candidate, but he was never the man!! And the War on Women continues. Voters, please....read the GOP party platform, this is their creed, and it's offensive and oppressive to many of us. And look closely at all new GOP candidates for the Senate and House....will they also be forced to sign another Grover Norquist no-tax pledge? Will they fear lobbyists more than the voters who elect them? The Republicans are led around by rings in their noses by Koch Bros and Grover Norquist and Oil Company lobbyists, etc. Don't elect them!!

In all honesty, I can understand that some will disagree with Obama. No president ever won 100% of the vote. At least with Obama, you know where he stands though.
What I can't understand is anyone who would support a candidate who changes his story daily. Romney supporters really have no idea where he stands. They only support him because he is the default winner of the weakest Republican primary field in my lifetime (and I'm 56 years old) and because they hate Obama.

Romney has been unemployed since 2006; and how come he has done nothing to be an advocate of his health care during former Bush administration?
If he has just said something to his party, GOP, and former President Bush about his health care, after his term of Governor, MA, in 2006, he could have saved many people. Why has he mentioned right now?

Mitt just showed a total lack of empathy for others when he said two days ago that no health care reform is needed in the U.S. & that people who lack insurance(presumably because all 45 million of them are freeloaders) & get sick should haul their sorry butts to hospital emergency rooms for their primary medical care. This man almost seems to be a pathological liar!
