White House: Libya attack was an act of terror

President Obama believes the violence in Libya was a terrorist attack, White House press secretary Jay Carney told reporters today, the first explicit acknowledgement of the president's view on the nature of the attack.

"It is certainly the case that it is our view as an administration, it is the presidents view, that it was a terrorist attack," Carney said during a gaggle with reporters aboard Air Force One Wednesday morning.

His administration's view for about a week has in fact been that the attack was an act of terrorism, but the president himself has refrained from characterizing it as such, even when asked point-blank about it during an interview that aired Tuesday on ABC's "The View."

Asked by co-host Barbara Walters whether the attack was terrorism, the president responded, "There's no doubt that the kind of weapons that were used, the ongoing assault, that it wasn't just a mob action."

And during his remarks at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday the president referred to the deadly Benghazi consulate attack as an “assault on America” but stopped short of calling it terrorism.

The president’s seeming reluctance to use the term “terrorism” was further highlighted by comments Libyan President Mohammed Magarief made to NBC’s Ann Curry during an interview that aired Thursday.

Magarief did not back down from labeling the attack as terrorism even while trying to walk a fine line.

“This is how I am calling it as…a Libyan official," he said. "But it is for President Obama, Secretary Clinton to describe the way they like and they feel right. I mean, you have your terminology.  And we have our terminology.  It's an act of terror."

Magarief also contradicted the White House and other administration officials on the nature of the attack saying that outrage over a controversial movie about the prophet Muhammad had “nothing to do with this attack.”

Today Carney repeated that the investigation into the Benghazi attack was “ongoing.”  He continued that the administration has provided information “Not based on speculation, but based on what we know.”

Well uber left, I'm sure this admission changes nothing for you in your plans to vote for the Big O.

However, let's review some known facts...

Obama and Hillary got word of a potential event prior to 9-11, and neither pulled the Ambassador out of Benghazi nor did they provide additional security.

Ambassador Stevens was killed by a terrorist attack.

The next morning, Obama flew to Las Vegas to do some critical fundraising, and then campaigned.

During these fundraising and campaign events, he, and all his minions, continued to call the terrorist attack a muslim reaction to a youtube video.

Obama continued to deny terrorists were involved, and it was only today...after the Libyan president again called it terrorism...that he decided to come clean.

It's a despicable person who would fundraise and campaign immediately after a terrorist attack...which was believed to have been exactly that almost immediately after it occurred...

I think Obama purposely lied so the American people would not realize his incompetence and failure to secure Stevens or the embassy. That might have reflected badly on his campaign. You can claim it has to be "investigated thoroughly and we couldn't have some wild accusations flying around." I say BS!!

His ineptitude killed Stevens. His callous disregard for the American people will hopefully kill his reelection chances.

I hope Obama has suddenly hit a BIG bump in the road.

Obama: the "bump in the road" for US foreign policy. Or is that really: skidmark in the shorts of US foreign policy? I get so confused when the libbies spin so much.

More Obama lies. How does he get away with this? Read the 2700 pages, it is full of hidden taxes. is an abbreviated list of taxes on families and businesses introduced by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), known as Obamacare, totalling more than $500 billion over the next ten years as prepared by the Americans for Tax Reform:

Excise taxes on charitable hospitals ($50,000 per hospital if they do not meet HHS criteria of "community health assessment needs," billing and collection," and "financial assistance" (PPACA, 2010, pp. 1,961-1,971)

Codify "economic substance doctrine" (IRS will not allow any legal deductions or tax-minimizing plans because it lacks "substance" and is intended to reduce taxes owed); this is a tax increase of $4.5 billion (Bill Reconciliation Act, 2010, pp. 108-113)

"Black liquor" tax on a special bio-fuel (Bill Reconciliation Act, 2010, p. 105)

Tax on innovating drug companies (PPACA, 2010, p. 1,971-1,980)
Blue Cross/Blue Shield Tax Increase (PPACA, 2010, p. 2,004)

Ten percent tax on indoor tanning (PPACA, 2010, pp. 2,397-2,399)

Medicine cabinet tax disallows Americans to use health savings accounts, flexible spending accounts, or health reimbursement pre-tax money to buy over the counter medicines except insulin (PPACA, 2011, pp. 1,957-1,959)

HSA Withdrawal tax hike from 10 to 20 percent (PPACA, 2011, p. 1,959)

Employer reporting of insurance on W-2 forms, taxing health benefits on individual tax returns (PPACA, 2012, p. 1,957)

Surtax on investment income for families that make at least $250,000 or $200,00 single (Bill Reconciliation Act, 2013, pp. 87-93)

Medicare payroll tax increase (PPACA, Reconciliation Act, 2013, pp. 2,000-2,003, pp. 87-93)

A 2.3 percent excise tax on medical device manufacturers (PPACA, 2013, pp. 1,980-1,986)

Medical expenses can be itemized if they exceed 10 percent, no longer the previous 7.5 percent, resulting in fewer people being able to itemize (PPACA, 2013, pp. 1,994-1,995)

Flexible spending account cap of $2,500 which is now unlimited (PPACA, 2013, pp. 2,388-2,389)

Eliminate tax deductions for employer-provided retirement prescription drug coverage in coordination with Medicare Part D (PPACA, 2013, p. 1,994)

Limit of $500,000 annual executive compensation for health insurance executives (PPACA, 2013, pp. 1,995-2,000)

Individual mandate excise tax starting in 2014 if a person does not buy a "qualifying" health insurance, 1 percent in 2014, 2 percent in 2015, 2.5 percent in 2016; exempted are hardship cases as determined by HHS, religious objectors, undocumented immigrants, prisoners, those earning less than the poverty line, members of Indian tribes (PPACA, 2014, pp. 317-337)

Employer mandated tax, non-deductible of $2,000 per employee if the employer does not offer health coverage and at least one employee qualifies for a health tax credit; if an employee receives coverage through the government exchange, the employer penalty for that employee increases to $3,000 (PPACA, 2014, pp. 345-346)

Tax on health insurers based on premiums collected per year (PPACA, 2014, pp. 1,986-1,993 (this all but forces employers to stop offering insurance, forcing their employees onto the government exchanges)

40 percent excise tax on comprehensive health insurance plans or "Cadillac plans" (PPACA, 2018, pp. 1,941-1,956)

Finally this incompetent administration admits something the world has known for 2 weeks. Wonder if they'll send Susan Rice out again this Sunday to explain that she wasn't lying before, that Americans were just confused.

Never in our history have we been forced to put up with such a crooked president and a complicit media. The Bulls1t ends November 6.

To quote Ambassador Rice from tomorrow's appearance before the General Assembly, "I'm very to tell the distinguished delegates that I work for an absolute bonehead that is so stupid that it took him 15 days to figure out what all of you knew 6 hours after it happened."

It's good that many of you aren't and never will be in an elected office. You'd be inclined to say things without knowing that they are true... like, "Saddam was complicit in 9/11" or "Saddam has WMDs" or "Mission Accomplished." So glad Dubya got his facts straight before he spoke.

Also, it seems like many of you have a short memory and don't pay much attention to world affairs. If you actually read a bit and connect some dots, you might find a thought wandering around in your head (kill it before it breeds more). First, the Libya attack happened soon after a demonstration in Egypt that was about the movie (plus some additional encouragement from the Muslim Brotherhood).

Second, after the Quaddafi overthrow(so many ways to spell that guy's name - him being dead makes spelling easier too), a bunch of political and religious factions are armed to the teeth with military hardware and any of them could reasonably have done the deed or lost control of their arsenal. In short, a whole lot of people in Libya could pull this off with very little assistance from a terrorist organization.

Third, the administration stated that one theory that they were investigating was that the attackers were taking advantage of the demonstrations caused by the movie to pull off a coordinated attack, but that they didn't know the attackers' identities and no one had taken responsibility for the attacks. That sounds like - "We have a theory that it might be terrorists or it might be some random bad actors and we're investigating it." At no time did imply that the deaths were no big deal. Therefore, it seems like the debate here is over whether Obama was willing to label an acknowledged tragedy as terrorism or not.

Seems pretty lame. Here's an idea... educate yourself a bit and you might actually have some real insights about some actual problems. How about this one - how can we get a candidate that people like? Work on that one.

A whole lot of non-terrorists could pull off a 2 stage attack against the consulate and the safe house using direct and indirect fire and not leave any dead behind with weapons they found when Gaddafi was overthrown. That's your theory?

Here's my theory. Obama didn't want to admit the obvious, that terrorists are alive and operating in the middle east despite his promise that Muslim extremist hostilities would melt away once America had a President who sympathized with their cause.

Obama's arrogance is only exceeded by his naivety.

You're welcome.

Here is a hint Mr. Clueless Prez, if they vote against you all the time in the U.N., they are not an Ally!

How they vote in the United Nations:
Below are the actual voting records of various Arabic/Islamic States
Which are recorded in both the US State Department and United Nations records:

Kuwait votes against the United States 67%of the time
Qatar votes against the United States 67%of the time
Morocco votes against the United States 70%of the time
United Arab& nbsp; Emirates votesagainst the United States 70%of the time.
Jordan votes against the United States 71%of the time.
Tunisia votes &nbs p; against the United States 71%of the time.
Saudi Arabia votes against the United States 73%of the time.
Yemen votes against the United States 74%of the time.
Algeria votes against the United States 74%of the time.
Oman votes against the United States 74%of the time.
Sudan votes against the United States 75%of the time.
Pakistan votes against; the United States 75%of the time.
Libya votes against the United States 76%of the time.
Egypt votes against the United States 79%of the time.
Lebanon votes against the United States 80%of the time.
India votes against the United States 81%of the time.
Syria votes against the United States 84%of the time.
Mauritania votes against the United States 87%of the time.

Then he pays them for it!

U S Foreign Aid to those that hate us:

Egypt, for example, after voting 79% of the time against the United State,
still receives $2,000,000,000 annually in US Foreign Aid.

Jordan votes 71% against the United States
still receives $192,814,000 annually in US Foreign Aid.

Pakistan votes 75% against the United States
still receives $6,721,000,000 annually in US Foreign Aid.

India votes 81% against the United States
still receives $143,699,000 annually in US Foreign Aid.

Bob Baer the former CIA operative the left usually loves to quote says this is the biggest catastrophe since Tehran 1979.

they killed our CIA operatives and took our equipment and records- that is war and Obama refuses to be honest about his criminal neglect

COOPER: A source familiar with Ambassador Stevens' thinking says that in the months before his death, he talked about being worried about what he called the never-ending security threats specifically in Benghazi. The source telling us that the ambassador specifically mentioned the rise in Islamic extremism, the growing al Qaeda presence in Libya, and said he was on an al Qaeda hit list.

COOPER: And, Bob, what does this say to you that this site was not secured?

ROBERT BAER, CNN CONTRIBUTOR: Anderson, I think the whole thing is just outrageous. I completely agree with Fran.

Look, that consulate was overrun and we don't even begin to understand what was lost there. We've lost crypto, files, money, personal documents. We don't even know. This administration is not telling us.

The fact that the diary was found in the consulate, and the fact that there wasn't - you know, I've heard that this quick reaction force tried to get to the consulate but was attacked at the airport, Benghazi airport. This hasn't been confirmed, but what's happened in Libya is we've lost complete control of this.

And every investigation I've been involved in, whether assassination or blown-up embassy, there's always been a local force or Marines to secure the site, otherwise the FBI can't do its work. It just can't. If it's completely wrecked like it was in Benghazi, and I think the reason that the State Department is so sensitive about your finding the journal is because they've lost control.

COOPER: And pivoting now, the actual attack, particularly destruction of the so-called Annex where U.S. officials were operating sensitive government programs, how important was that mission, you think, to U.S. intelligence?

BAER: Oh, absolutely vital. That was, as I understand, is where they were buying up weapons, trying to buy up chemical weapons, trying to buy up surface-to-air missiles. It was U.S. intelligence was just getting started in Libya. That's where they kept their files and as I said the communications gear, which apparently has - no one can explain what's happened to it.

I mean this has never happened to an American embassy since Tehran in 1979. It's really catastrophe, it really is.

Israel isn't certain if we will support them if they are forced to act

Romney beat BO to the punch and spoke up immediately, while BO wet his pants.

Then BO had to spend all night long fabricating the lameass story about an old youtube video, and his inane shoot before aiming soundbite.

Finally - the next day he said he likes to gather facts (make up stories) before speaking - and finally addressed the nation.

Then he lied (which he usually gets away with) at least with his liberal sheep.

Now He's caught in a lie (even making Hillary and Rice do his dirty work for him) and he doesn't know what to do, except backpedal.

I don't feel any safer or more confident with the Putz-in-Chief.

I miss W. His foreign policy wasn't built on appeasement and making excuses for murderers.

You are right, W. didn't make excuses for murderers. Being one himself it would have been a little odd to do so.

He belongs in jail, next to Cheney.

So many experts from the lunatic right giving their "assessment" of why, when, who, how and so on and so forth about this attack when they know as much as my dog about it.

The reason for all of these virulence is none other than the fact that they know for sure that Obama didn't cause the death of the Ambassador, as some deranged sick minds have suggested, but keep saying it in order to vent their irrational hate for the president. In a situation like the Middle East, where things happen from one minute to the other, nobody KNEW when anything would happen or what would happen.

The suggestion that the president should have stayed glued to his chair after this attack in order to show how much he cares is, at least, imbecilic. But then again this wouldn't stop the trolls from the right from going into a rage about Obama going to a fundraiser; at least he didn't go golfing as Bush did during his brave and corageous wars of destruction, when thousands were dying in his name for a personal vendetta against Saddam.

So go on and keep posting and venting your hate, moronic lunatics from the GOP/TP alliance, nothing you can say or do will stop Obama from winning in November. In truth all he has to do is watch Mitt self-destroy with his incredibly elitist and dismissing statements about the people of the United STates. An empty suit cannot win an election.

You are uninformed and FOS. Stevens actually wrote of his fear of being killed. Libya forewarned our State Dept. Other countries actually closed their consulates due to the sustained violence.

And, lastly, but certainly not least, it was 9/11.

Leftists such as yourself fail to grasp the significance of the date for both sides.

        You are the imbecile.

BTW, loon, Bush quit playing golf. He said it was inappropriate while America's best and bravest was fighting and dying for their country.

You may crawl back into whatever sewer you decided to raise your idiotic head from.

What is it with you liberals and this hate card you keep playing? There has never been a President of this country who was above criticism until now.

If anybody says anything negative about Obama it's because of hate according to you. The guy has made a ton of mistakes, and it's our right as Americans to point them out. Hate has got nothing to do with it.

Whether the attack on the consulate was a mob or a military action by a terrorist group, it's pretty clear that the consulate was not properly defended. That mistake ultimately belongs to Obama.

Bush did stupid things. Clinton did stupid things. Do I hate Bush? Clinton?

This race thing is never going to be put behind us as long as there are people like you who drag it out and dust it off when it has nothing to do with the discussion.

God I'm sick of that crap.

Egypt also warned our government about impending attacks and the significance of the 9/11 anniversary. It was ignored.

If Obama wins again, one of the things that will help him will be the failure to get the soldiers their absentee ballots in time. Neat trick.

Yeah, I'm sick of it, too, especially when the right wing extremists on these threads use words like "Muslim, Kenyan, communist, Marxist, Hussein, food stamp president, terrorist, etc. to describe their president. I have seen more vulgar words used but I am not going to give them a woody by using them. So, don't go crying foul when you know damn well that there is a group on the right that is very racist(at the very least in their rants) and the party itself has capitalized on that.

It's got nothing to do with race....that is the cry of the Obamanoids who know nothing except how they'd like to see what's under his zipper. Oh yeah, and the fact that he's "historic".

The cult of personality is soooooooooo 2008.

            AlaskaGirl,

Obama was raised as a Muslim, he once claimed to have been born in Kenya when he was trying to sell a book, his middle name is Hussein, and more people are on food stamps now than ever before.

If he was white, people would still be using these words when they talk about him. These words apply to him. There is nothing hateful about these words.

I agree they can be used in a hateful way by ignorant people. My objection was to the liberal propensity for playing the hate card when hate has nothing to do with the issue or the discussion.

Until liberals agree that a white conservative can criticize a black President without being called a racist, nobody on either side is really free.

The hate card is all the left has. They represent a failed philosophy. It is time that we squash them as was done in the 20th century.

Obama is a failure. When Jimmy Carter failed Americans acknowledged it and moved on, effectively discounting liberalism and the Democratic Party. They occasionally regain and hold power thru lies and demonisation. They are able to do this because the average American merely wishes to live their lives in peace and the knowledge that they can trust their govt. The left always campaigns negative and usually lies to get elected. I mean LIES, not campaign promises which has some hope of being fulfilled. They use those also.

The truth is Americans cannot trust the left. They don't represent the principles upon which our country was founded.

Don't buy into the "racist" argument. It's just another lie from the left.

@ jt:And they are being used in a hateful way by a right wing conservative base. Obama is not a Muslim. He never claimed to have been born in Kenya. He was born an American citizen in Hawaii. Bigots liken food stamps to black people. Your comment is full of spin. If he was white, people would still be calling him a Kenyan? You are naive if you don't think that the Republican party has been using the race and hate card ever since president Obama started running for president in 2007. The race and hate card rears its ugly head in every discussion that the right wing extremists comment here on Newsvine.

@Conservative Rebellion: You are on ignore so I have no idea nor the inclination to read what you have to say.

His publisher pushed him as foreign born for several years. Your argument is so weak as to be non-existent bullsh!t. The only ones pushing the race card is the left. Uninformed stupid people who make such asinine stratements as "bigots liken food stamps to black people".

You should ignore me, otherwise your little Obamaworld would shatter when faced with facts.

A question has been put forward that has the Obama administration struggling to answer. “Are we better off now than we were four years ago?” What seems like a simple question that is asked of any politician seeking re-election seems to be a stumbling block for President Obama and his campaign. Over the next few months the campaign will try to craft and spin an answer to that question while ignoring the reality. Here are just a few of the facts that should not be overlooked.

                National Debt
                2009: 10.6 Trillion
                Now: 16 Trillion

                Food Stamps
                2009: 32.2 million people enrolled
                Now: 46.2 million people enrolled

                Unemployment
                2009: 7.8%
                Now: 8.3%
                bls.gov

                Median Household Income
                2009: $54,983

                Gas Prices
                2009: $1.85

So, what do you want to do, trade off 'Socialism' for 'Plutocracy and/or Corporate Fascism'? Those are two of the three choices most of you argue over.

The third choice is the one our Forefathers chose...

Foreign Nations DO NOT need US help or it's presence! To be more definitive, the ONLY item wanted is fiat Dollars and that goes solely to the political representatives and their supporters of corrupt Regimes (governments).

At least the US still leads the World by example in the scenario above.

I can almost smell the smoke coming from people's ears on these posts. For a couple of weeks liberals on these stories were saying it wasn't terrorism, it was the fault of some obscure film maker, nothing to see here. Now they have to turn around and admit the truth because their talking point orders have changed.
