The latest polls: A new round from the New York Times/CBS/Quinnipiac: In Florida, Obama’s up 9, 53-44%, in Ohio, it’s Obama by 10, 53-43%, and in Pennsylvania, Obama’s up 12, 54-42%.
National: Bloomberg has Obama up 49-43% among likely voters.
The reason for Obama’s lead – Romney’s likability scores. “‘If I have to choose between the two, I prefer Barack over Mitt,’ said Stephanie Martin, a 41-year-old insurance agent in Glasgow, Virginia, who describes herself as a libertarian. ‘I think Mitt Romney is just so out of touch. It’s mostly a protest against him and the Republican establishment; it’s not that I think Obama has done such a great job.’”
Said pollster Ann Selzer: “This race could be a referendum on Obama -- except that Romney hasn’t given people reasons to say ‘yes’ to him.”
Political Wire: “A new Washington Post-ABC News poll finds 54% of Americans have unfavorable views of Mitt Romney's comments -- caught on film at a fundraiser -- regarding the ‘47 percent’ of people who pay not federal income taxes and simply would not vote for him. Just 32% saw them favorable. In addtiion, 61% of all Americans ‘express negative views of how Romney is running his campaign. That number is up significantly from July -- the near-certain result of the much-publicized comments by Romney.’”
And: “A new Associated Press-GfK poll finds 72% of Americans think President Obama's health care law will go fully into effect with some changes, ranging from minor to major alterations,” Political Wire writes.
Steve Lombardo: “The problem for the Romney campaign is that the president's lead in several of those states is slowly moving beyond the margin of error. If the current trajectory continues, we may have to move three or four of those states into the ‘lean Obama’ column within the next week. With just 42 days to go before Election Day, this is Barack Obama's race to lose.”
Charlie Cook: “The presidential race remains remarkably stable, which is good news for President Obama and Democrats and bad news for Mitt Romney and Republicans. This race is certainly not over; with three presidential debates and one vice presidential debate to go and two upcoming unemployment reports — and all against a backdrop of a very unstable world — it’s not hard to conjure up scenarios that could change the trajectory of this election. But a change of the trajectory is exactly what would have to happen for Romney to win; his current one simply doesn’t intersect with Obama’s before Nov. 6. Leading Democratic and Republican pollsters and strategists privately say that the Obama lead is around 4 or 5 points and is neither widening nor narrowing. The convention bounces have dissipated, but Romney’s negatives remain quite high and are not diminishing.”
The Washington Monthly has published a new ebook, “Elephant in the Room: Washington in the Bush Years,” to argue how the 2012 presidential election is still being shaped by George W. Bush. The magazine’s Paul Glastris writes, “We are still feeling the reverberations of the Bush years — in an unfinished war, an enduring recession, and the long shadows of Supreme Court appointments and decisions. And the possibility of a new period of unified GOP control of Washington, in 2012 or 2016, remains very real.”

SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And this news is a surprise to some ?
Not me .
The Republican Party is heading down a path from which it will never recover. At the end of this election cycle it will splinter into a thousand pieces, like a crystal chandelier falling from a great height.
Jack, I hope this wakes the Republican Party up and they get rid of the radicals and become a party of the people again. The extremists are not good for the country and weaken us at every juncture. They make us look foolish and incompetent as a people.
Obama/Biden 2012
Seeking Sanity,
Just came back to this blog. Overall I agree with your remarks. The country benefits from a healthy debate, and I would love to see a reasonable, thoughtful Republican Party.
We need radicals, too, because they make us think outside the box (at least, the ones on the left do). We just don't need so damned many of them.
Revenge,
I always feel a need to vote, even if my candidate appears to be running away the race. Landslides are nice, especially when it repudiates policies that don't benefit all Americans and which are bad for the country.
One might say, with 40 days left, it might be too premature to write the obituary for Romney and Ryan. But, it seems more likely that Obama will win handily if not by landslide. It's a question of whether he would carry Virginia, Florida, and North Carolina in that order. Missouri, may be not. If he does win by landslide, then he would have the upper hand with the Republican Congress with regards to taxes, deficit reduction, Jobs Bill, Medicare reforms, etc.
Also, currently it looks like Romney's name is a big drag with Senate Republican candidates, especially in Nevada, MA, Florida, Arizona, Indiana, Virginia, and CT.
When the dust settles down after Nov 6th, Romney will go back to his vacation home in New Hampshire or Alps, Switzerland. As for Paul Ryan, Ryan brand is very badly damaged with all his lies and exaggeration techniques. Speaker John Boehner will be more beholden to the Tea party wing of his caucus and Mitch McConnell will be replaced as the Minority Leader by someone more extreme in his party, perhaps, Senator Jim DeMint.
We will have a grand Debt deal to the tune of at least 4 to 6 trillion dollars in revenues and cuts over the next 10 year and the country will probably on path to a normal growth trajectory (2.5 to 3.0% growth) for the next five years, even though Europe is in shambles and China might hit a hard rock. President Obama would be praised as the "One who saved the country from the Financial Abyss of early 21st Century."
As the ending in Cinderella story goes, "they all lived happily ever after."
Referring to Obama as the "President" just seems odd after last night.
Al Gore Blames the altitude for Obamas poor performance at the 2012 presidential debate last night.

LOL !
HI LEMMINGS... heres a quote from Chuck Todd about polling days prior to the Scott Walker recall:
>> it's clear that the race is tight. walker is stuck in recent polling somewhere between 50% and 52%"
And he was the only one who was hedging. The Fat red head was claiming the polls were TIED.
They called that race 49 min after the polls closed..
49 min. wow hahaha.. YOU PEOPLE ARE BEING USED.
Rasmussen, who is using a 2004 voter model has the race dead tied. MSNBC who is using the 2008 "surge" model which over samples democrats - (becuase more democrats voted after 8 years of bush).
Jack In Portsmouth, i hope you believe this and dont really feel the urgency to vote. since Obama has such a big lead anyway..
Keep feeding yourself these lies if it makes you feel better Revenge. It'll all be over soon. Then you can find somewhere else to channel your anger.
Revenge - your only hope is that voters don't turn out. But, there will be as many for the right that don't turn out as for the left.
Obama/Biden 2012
Revenge you keep on dreaming friend, I actually know a lot more republicans who are just sick about their nominee and know it is going to cost them at least one state house seat in Tennessee! Hate to pop your bubble but we are all fired up and ready to go to the polls and vote straight Democrat and we plan to take others with us. While Tennessee will probably go for romney (I'd love it if we don't), the down ballot is not looking to be in the republicans favor in my state or many others and that will be where President Obama sweeps Mitt under the rug.
Things don't look too good for Romney. The debates are coming up, and things could change, but just in case, I'm already working on some post election nursery rhymes. Such as:
Hickory dickory dock,
Romney got cock-blocked,
The race is done, Obama won,
Hickory dickory dock
Oh I love it Smackwhackle! Please come up with some more!
LOL. Truth be told, that's all I've got so far, although I did start on a Christmas song in case Romney does win:
Here comes Romney Claus,
Here comes Romney Claus,
Right down Romney Claus Lane.
He'll pick up a bat, give you a whack,
Take your wallet as you're lying in pain.
Romney's grinnin', his bundlers are winnin',
The one percenters are merry and bright.
So hang your head as you're filled with dread,
'Cause Romney Claus comes tonight....
Why is the lead of the President growing? It is because the President is very intelligent, knows what his policies are, and is very Presidential in behavior. President Obama represents all Ameicans, fights for all Americans, and is for fairness in all areas of American Life. President Obama is very capable of doing more that one thing at a time, and is very understanding of the continued struggles facing our nation. President Obama is very aggressive in his Foreign Policy Actions. His continued Drone Attacks suggest that the President. Will continue to kill every terrorist on the face of the Earth. Hey! Hey! Ho! Ho! The Party OF NO has got to GO!!
Our only hope is that this trend continues, and the voter suppression laws are struck down (sooner rather than later).
Romney is classless and clueless. As an example, he thought picking Ryan as his running mate would help, but it's only hurt him in the long run. Ryan actually got loudly booed at an AARP speech when he brought up Medicare.
Hopefully, the debates will further expose Romney's inconsistencies and incompetence. Then on November 7th, we can be rid of this GOP nightmare and move forward.
It looks like Odumbo promised a few more food stamps for a vote! Food stamp recipients 17% when he took office., now 47%! H'mm Odumbos favorability, 47%? It looks like a no-brainer! If he just ups the amount that can be earned to $400,000, instead of $250,000, maybe he could get the other 4%, that he needs! ****Light bulb for Odumbo!****The food stamp program was originated to help the low income individuals who need help because of the dumb decisions made by all of the inexperienced do - nothings in washington. THE FOOD STAMP PROGRAM WAS NOT PUT IN PLACE TO HELP YOU GET VOTES< ODUMBO! YOU and your entire bunch are liars and so -corrupt , that you all need to be flushed from the system! ODUMBO, WORST "president" EVER!
So Dems came up with the Food Stamp program all those many years ago, to generate VOTES?
Are you saying that in ALL OF AMERICA there is not one Republican getting food stamps?? And according to your conspiracy ramblings, we can expect them to vote for Barack now??
Wow. You make me better understand why some species eat their young.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012-looking better everyday because of people just like you!
To simmons**** I'm sorry that you are on the "program" Yes there is hope out there, but not while Odumbo is in office. I agree, that we need to vote him out so we can get this country moving again! Try to find any job that you can, and try to get promoted in that position. I hope this helps.
DANDYDON ... you sound like the idiot romney .... that's why Obama will win this election .... keep talking .... you are just giving ammunition to the dems ....
... bring on the debates .... Obama gonna crush your boy ... romney needs to prepare for the debates but first he has end the debate hes having with himself .. flip flop flip flop flip flop ......
OBAMA 2012
What "program"? And wasnt' your post and therefore my response about Dems supposedly creating "food stamps for votes"?
Sounds to me like you need to get ON some kind of program.
The job situation? Well, I've started to have my OWN conspiracy theory about that.
See, now that companies have gutted there workforces, and have still pretty much kept up productivity? Why start hiring NOW? Why should they help regular Americans get back on there feet right now, when that would reflect possitively on President Obama?
When we ALL know that they MUCH prefer having a carbon copy of themselves in the White House.
Don, I can honestly tell you that if ROMULUS had given me any indication at ANYTIME that he would try to help ALL Americans through this I would have voted for him-throwing up in my mouth the whole time-but I would have DONE it.
SSSSSOOOOO glad his hasn't convinced ME and apparently now MOST of the country that he really DOES give a crap about my average-middle of the road-working butt!
Give President Obama 4 more weeks and his lead will be 20 points. Face it baggers, you backed the wrong horse. Again.
Oh, wait. So, what was he polling sample on these rounds of polls? I would think Barry would look good when you over sample registered Democrats by 7-10 points. Shocker!
The left has nothing to run on so the biased media team up to create a fake picture. Just be quiet now and we will see who has the last laugh. Shameless and sleazy lefties.
Horraaaay for Obama/Biden!....
This poll is complete BS people. You do realize that these are all democratic news organizations and if you take their word for it, you're an idiot.
Rasmussen poll hows Romney in the lead 49-47 in Florida, 49-48 in Virginia, Down by 1 50-49 in Ohio. This is a bi partisan site and has been the most accurate in polling throughout the years. A new article came out today showing Romney earning more support than obummer.
Sorry folks, but the race is much closer than your bias media thinks. If Obummer loses, I can't wait to watch all these schmucks on TV cry and whine about a republican that will do a better job than your schmuck of a president.
Thanks for saving me the trouble of posting that poll info Dalilama10. of course putting that out in this left wing echo chamber is a waste of time and energy. These cockroaches are like the roster that takes credit for the sun rising. Totally retarded.
Will just make Nov 6th sweeter. Watch how the suicide hot lines go nuts. Drink up left tards. Last call.
Its funny how the Repukelicans always say figures are flawed. Sore ass losers. Yet they like to spew the hate on and on on sites like FB. After Obama wins I cant wait to hear all the voter fraud claims and all that feces they spew as to why they lost. Maybe it might be that wicked liberal medias fault too! The Repukelicans also always seem to find fault in everybody else except themselves. Iraq and WOMD. Yet want to set back and give no credit to Obama when he gets Bin Laden. Yet Dubya had 7 years to do it. Oh yea Mr. Mission Accomplished, and Mr. Im not worried about Bin Laden any more. Remember the auto bail outs started with Dubya too! Yet that Obama it was his fault and them bad unions. Cry Cry Cry! Take some responsibility for you own parties poor performance stop blaming everybody else! Oh but wait that was 3+ years ago when Dubya was POS I mean POTUS so lets stop blaming him now its all that socialist Obamas fault.
Tom
I remember, early this year. They were blaming Roosevelt, for the great depression. Even though, it happened, before the election. Just like the great recession happened. Before, the Obama election.
I also, remember. Them saying, before Obama, was sworn in. That they would cause, Obama to fail.
They, might not remember. But I do! They, have very selective memories.
Okay -- Mitt won the debate--- but it was all on style points -- not substance and certainly not honesty. I could probably win a debate if honesty was not required. Clearly Mitt brazenly mislead the American people, No $5 trillion tax cut plan -- since when? No voucher care -- when did that change? No tax cuts that would raise taxes on the middle class, that refreshing and new. Preexisting conditions included in his health plan -- since when? He won't reduce taxes on highest income brackets -- when did he decide that and how to they feel about that flip flop? No tax increases on the middle class to pay for his high end tax cuts -- so how is he going to pay for these now "revenue neutral tax cuts"? If they are revenue neutral and the same amount of money is taken out of the economy as today, just how is it that stimulate jobs? How does that increase demand? The pure lie of Sarah Palin's totally debunked death panels came back again and 23 million "are out" of work -- try about half of that (before this month's positive report.)
Romney has only core value -- he will say anything to get elected -- and the American people watched it in full bloom last week. Time will cleanse the stench of the Romney lies and debate tactics. The consequences of his showtime follies are not over -- they have not played out -- yet! But they will!
We can all agree -- the President had an off night no doubt --but its not likely to be repeated.
Have you ever see the liar call other people lie? Happen all the time, by the way the poll did not say sample rate, may sample by 110% Democrat to reach that number. If you watch football, the loosing team always thow next intercepted ball. Unless they can find the way to implant the telepromter, babbling will go on. More fun to watch.
