VANDALIA, OH – For the Romney campaign, Tuesday brought yet more bad news from the Buckeye state: a new Washington Post poll showed the Republican presidential nominee trailing President Barack Obama by eight points in this critical battleground state, with 52 percent of Ohio voters in favor of giving the incumbent another four years.
Before Mitt Romney's plane touched down at the Dayton airport today, two top aides were dispatched to the press cabin to put out possible fires the numbers might have sparked.
"The public polls are what the public polls are," Romney Political Director Rich Beeson told reporters. "I kind of hope the Obama campaign is basing their campaign on what the public polls say. We don’t. We have confidence in our data and our metrics."
What the Romney team’s data indicated about Ohio, Beeson wouldn't say. He argued that Romney was inside the margin of error here “by any stretch,” and dismissed the much-hyped Obama ground game in Ohio as activity confused with progress.
"I will put our operation up against anybody’s. But at the end of the day, Ohio is going to come down to the wire and we’ll be in it down to the wire and I’m confident that we will win,” Beeson said.
In an exclusive interview with NBC News, Romney's Ohio chairman Rob Portman projected similar confidence that Romney would carry his home state, despite the mounting poll data showing him slipping further behind President Obama. He told NBC News that the Romney campaign was taking a page out of then-candidate Obama's book by attempting to run a more regional campaign inside the state.
"I do think there is a strategy, which the Obama administration is very good at, which is to you know, target particular groups of people and particular regions and you know, the Romney campaign is doing it as well," Portman said.
Portman, a freshman senator, then ticked off the various demographics and localities and how they're being targeted by the Romney campaign: running advertisements accusing the president of a war on coal in the east; talking fracking in communities near the Marcellus and Utica shale formations; and focusing on trade and China in heavy manufacturing areas like the Mahoning Valley, Northeast Ohio and here in Dayton.
"I think that's one way we're going to win Ohio, by addressing the issues region by region," Portman said. "There isn't just one Ohio. It’s not monolithic."
Moments earlier, Romney had done exactly what Portman suggested; running as much against China's trade practices as the incumbent president, and vowing to fight back to preserve jobs.
"This cannot be allowed," Romney said of alleged Chinese trade abuses. "We cannot compete with people who don't play fair and I won't let that go on, I will stop it in its tracks."
In addition to his role as Romney's Ohio campaign chairman, Portman also serves as Romney's debate sparring partner, a role at which he is so good, Romney claims, the GOP nominee sometimes wants "to kick him out of the room."
Asked how debate preparations were going, Portman shrewdly looked to lower expectations for Romney, and raise them for Obama, ahead of the first showdown on Oct. 3rd.
"When you think about it, [Romney] hasn't had a real debate in 10 years," Portman said, claiming the 20-plus GOP debates Romney participated in during the primaries were not one-on-one, and were more like candidate forums than true debates.
He also heaped praise on Obama's debating skills: "Barack Obama is going to be formidable. I think it'll be a good debate, but I certainly would not underestimate what Barack Obama brings to it: a lot of experience in these kinds of debates and obviously a lot of knowledge and background on the federal issues."

OH, isn't that CUTE! Portman is trying to be all clever and so facile, trying to lower expectations for Mittens at the debate! Don't you just love it, the Republican candidate is SO bad, that someone has to come out and say "gee, our candidate is barely literate, and the President is just AWESOME at debates."
If your candidate is that bad, Portman, why would you suggest anyone support him? Or is it the usual Republican meme: Party before country!
Those of you who support Romney ought to be insulted that Portman thinks you are stupid enough to buy what he is trying to sell. If Romney cannot stand up to a debate with your President, how the heck do you think he will do with world leaders negotiating to solve problems?
Romney's message is to far above the average intelligence to make a point; if he has any chance he must lower his message so a 16 year old can understand it; we have really dumbed down a nation.
Mitt in coal country with workers forced to be his backdrop without pay!...He continues to lie, even accusing the President of a 'war on coal'....
Mitt has no core....no integrity!
Yep Willard, Trust your own data because you're losing everywhere else!. This has to be the only campaign where they make things up as they go and when all else fails - LIE!
Good Luck with your new data...can't wait to see how it turns out after the debates and the election when you're sent back to your home with the car elevator pondering where it all went to crap...Pretty much when you opened your mouth!!!
Trouble is, Mitt's data comes from brunches with millionaires, church surveys, and homeschoolers. Giant douuuuuuche. :(
"Romney's message is to (sic) far above the average intelligence..."
Oh, I get it, wanting to know why airplane windows don't roll down was a code!
I guess it stands for "look how I can fool stupid people into thinking I'm Presidential!"
@Romney camp,
Denial is not a river in Egypt.
Wow, talk about being in a bubble.
It is pathetic and desperate of saxon to call the majority of Americans stupid simply because we do not buy Miss Mittsy's bull.
You had your chance to vet your candidate in the primaries, saxon. It is not in any way the Democrat's fault that, beacause of your lazy hatred, you ended up with the pile of crap you have. Mittsy reflects what your shameful party has come to represent - and it most certainly is not intelligence.
They're trying to "appease" (neat-o buzz word currently among righties) Ms Mitt, who deems this all so "difficult" and all......
I predict that Romney will lose. He blew his chances at winning the presidency. He had an opportunity but he blew it.
saxon ...
A 16 year old can drive and think for themselves. If Romney dumbed down his message to that of a three year old, even they understand the difference between yes and no and the concept of lying.
Love the party of make up our own facts, and by God, you better believe 'em!
Obama/Biden 2012
What is interesting is that no Republican has ever won the Presidency without Ohio.
Yet President Obama can lose Ohio and Florida and still win.
If Romney loses Florida he cannot win {period}
Romney is in a delusional world of his own. His advisers are no help to him even though they are being paid big bucks. If the polls are accurate, Romney is really toast. I cannot imagine Mitt Romney doing any better in the debate and Lyin Ryan is no use to him any more, contrary to expectations. Now what is left is to see if the Democrats can keep their 54-46 lead in the Senate (high probability they will) and take back the house, which I would rate as 33% chance.
Willard, Since you claim to be the smartest one in the room... How about I retrofit your jet with windows that roll down (for Free) if you PROMISE to roll them down in flight at 600MPH and 40,000 feet...LOL
Scott,
Last week two internal democrat polls were obtained by the Republicans. The Republicans immediately ran polls in those two states
The results by the Republicans verified the Democrats polls. Obama up only 1 in PA and only 4 in Ohio.
Most of the polls you see in the media are bought by or run by democrats. They are using 2008 with "adjustments", usually oversampling Democrats above the level of 2008.
2008 is an anomily. Twice the college students voted than historically. The African American vote was 1 point higher than. Most of those college kids graduated with huge debts to pay and lucky to get a job, let alone what they studied for.
Not only that but until last week Democrats were registering 1/10th the number of voters as republicans.
The internal polls are 3,000 - 5,000 people taken from areas known to be historically accurately representative of the nations voting.
What you see Obama doing is going into democratic strongholds when he should be at the minimum in swing areas. That says loads like, the base support is not very motivated to vote.
Delusional - Unable to distinguish between false incorrect thinking and the truth of reality. The walls are closing in on Mitty..............
What's up with Obama COVERING UP the assassination of a US Ambassador?
Any chance the press might ask that question anytime soon
Oh Scott ...
Poor Willard ... no physics or math skills and yet he wants to "help" the education system?
Obama/Biden 2012
Romney lives in another world. He keeps on saying that his "polls"are not telling the "truth" Only "his" polls are the ones telling the truth!!!!
YEAH! Let's make the POLLS less liberal for ROMNEY! The flip flopper keeps on thinking that the country is his mansion, the 47% his servants, and the remaining ones "should not upset the master"
Romney is nothing, but a piece of garbage!!! Change the Republican elephant for a "Unicorn, or in your case a CYCLOP!!!!!
Mitt Romney made a joke about not having "roll down windows on airplanes." The audience that heard the joke roared with laughter. Apparently, the Democrats here are a lot stupider than Mitt's Republican audience.

.
In other words we just keep making stuff up and keep repeating it and we believe it. Airplanes should have double hung windows so you let fresh air in when the person next to you farts and submarines should have screen doors.
So is MSNBCEBT going to apologize to Mitt Romney for being critical of his remarks after the Libya TERRORIST attack that Obama is COVERING UP.
Romney was dead on correct with his analysis. Time for the Media to pony up a big fat apology to Mitt Romney and ask Obama about why he is covering up the assassination of Ambassador Stevens.
The State Department has finally characterized the killing as a TERRORIST ATTACK. Why can't Obama be straight with America. WHY THE COVER UP?
If Mitt goes off-teleprompter in the debates, it's game over. I'll bet you $10K on that fact.
Romney thinks airplanes need windows that open. LOL. What a fool
Obama 2012!!!!! Unless you want the three year old
Kannin,
Yeppers, everyone reading the Los Angeles Times was falling around laughing while drinking their coffee and realizing what a fool Mitt is!

Mittcraft ... just another EPIC fail!
Obama/Biden 2012
Sacto, there is no teleprompters at debates.
Public polls indicate Romney and Ryan are up sh^t creek shy paddles. Romneys internal data indicates the campaign is up sh^t creek in a sinking vessel. Doesn't much matter which is correct. Meantime, Romney must present Himself with the confidence of the smiling, uninvited hobo, relieving himself in an otherwise unoccupied Alabama outhouse, freshly stocked with long cobs.
DB, obviously.
Aside from the joke, which the Right has used for years (what, no hardy-har-har?), the point is that Romney sounds like a bumbling fool when not going from a canned speech. He will attempt to memorize every word he speaks, but that will be near impossible in the format... he will fail miserably.
Hah! Hah! I Love Republicans in deep Denial.
Here's some Data that is so Accurate it can Not be Ignored.
You evil-hideous Republicans and you crazy-wacko Teabaggers,
aren't just LOSING the ELECTION,
you've ALREADY LOST.
you just haven't noticed that you've already Hit the Ground.
Ouch.
That's why this once proud Republicans is Encouraging all my Republican brethen, Freedom Loving Americans, all Policemen, Firemen, Teachers, Women of the World, the Latino and Gay Community, all Federal Workers, all Florida Retirees, and all you still yet Undecided Voters,
to Vote a straight Democratic ticket come this November 2012.
Let's send Mitt Romney and his Republican Puppet Masters
"Back to the Dung Heap of History"
where they all belong.
of?
Shady,
Reid owes Mitt nothing … the auditor's statement proves nothing.
So Mitt Romney had his tax auditor prepare a statement certifying that Mr. Romney from 1990 thru 2009 paid an average of 20% in taxes.
PROBLEM: This was during his time as CEO of Bain and his pay as CEO was subject to the Clinton era tax rates. Also from 1990 to 1997 the Capital Gains taxes were at 30% so Mitt paid somewhere between 30% and 39% tax rate for those 8 years. So how much did he pay during the other 12 years? Answer = something less than 14% on average. Did he ever pay zero – legally of course?
But the real reason for him to hide his returns is that for 2007 he may have taken the tax amnesty deal that allowed him to claim funds in illegal tax shelters and pay taxes on them including a healthy penalty without prosecution.
Then in 2011 he didn't take advantage of all deductions allowed to keep his rate at 14%. If he took all of them his rate would be about 10%.
Dennis,
I know you want Obama to win, but Winning Ohio does not secure a victory for a president. Romney does not have to win in Ohio. On Obama's side, his best bets to win is Ohio, Virginia, and Florida. Romney needs 2 of those three at this point.
Obama's big problem is getting legitimatly over 47% in the polls. And it is 47% because the libertarian candidate Johnson is going to pull between 2 - 6% in many states.
When you remove the oversampling of democrats and oversampling of democrat favoring groups inside the polls, the race is slightly in Obama's favor, But if you understand that the polls are basing their polling off 2008, that it was an aberration, and take an average of the turnouts of 2004 & 2008, then the race is about even and maybe tilting toward romney.
The only people saying the Republicans are rattled of frantic are left sources. They are basing that off the Republican leadership which is moderates and they are weak kneed. These a$$e$ are the ones who promoted Romney, and clearly don't have any idea of what reality is.
Most republicans are just keeping everyone brace for the traditional democrat campaign trick of stuffing the polls in their favor. I'd call it legal voter supression, or campaigning psych-ops.
Shady G ...
Since you're so used to digging yourself into a hole and can't find a shovel, I'll give you a little link. Good laws! You honestly think the President is covering up the assasination of Stevens? Smoke a little more FOX hookah!

Obama/Biden 2012
DB,
I didn’t say he could not win without Ohio … mathematically sure he can
But no Republican candidate has ever won the Presidency without winning Ohio
Strange that Republicans are trying a strategy of pretending the polls aren't as bad as the seem. They also tried to create buzz this weekend about some guy who took the "bias" out of polls and magically gave Romney an 8-point lead over Obama! Rick Perry treated about it and it seems to be part of a coordinated effort. I guess they are started to really worry about voter enthusiasm and are trying to keep moral up.
Republicans hate facts. That is why they don't believe in FACT CHECK.
If the Republicans can't generate the numbers then they can't be correct. Look at who generated the current National Debt yes the Republicans starting with Reagan.
Mr. Ryan has been proven wrong with his 716B error by the Congressional Budget office, The Fact Cherker Organization and President Clinton. They continue to tell the same lie.
Mr. Romney has a big problem telling the truth about anything and when faced with the Facts as checked by Fact Checker he continues to tell the same LIE.
Mr Ryan and Mr Romney have NO creditability with the American People because they get cought in a LIE and then won't recognize the fact that they LIED. Very bad situation.
If you look at all the polls for President you can clearly see that the Republicans are losing. The Rassmutten report is always slewed 5-6 points in Mr. Romneys favor but that is OK because ALL other polls show about the same margin of lead for the Democrats.
Republicans hate facts.
No surprise - Mitt the Ostrich's poll company is properly called the Ostrich Poll.
Hey, Mitt, just bury your head in the sand or into your own arse, whichever is more convenient. Mitt refuses to meet reality
Frankly I think the GOP polls are not about voters they are about how many people they have been able to dis-enfranchise in that particular district. It might be good to take guns to the polling place because the GOP is going to set up road blocks for anyone not having a Rommey sticker on the bumper. Hmm, good idea, we all put GOP stickers on our hat and walk in to the booth and vote DEM.
This election takes us back to the South in the 50's, and that is one sad statement given that it is 2012 right now.
Even FOX polls, DB?
FOX News, September 23, 2012:
Obama 48.6%
Romney 44.9%
I see now how Republicans vote for GOP candidates.
They can obviously convince themselves that steaming piles are really sweet flowers just by scrunching up their eyes and "seeing" it so!
Sadly DB Akron .. what you really show is that voter suppression is working. Kick out the student vote, and Romney starts to poll just fine. Kick out the elderly, and Romney excels. Motivation to vote has nothing to do with it, but voter suppression is what the GOPTP wants to win the race. No doubt, if the GOPTP win this race, most of us will lose our ability to vote. This is the reason every voter should get out and vote, regardless of the roadblocks of the GOPTP. Your ability to vote in future elections depends on this election.
Swallow - this is the next election issue. Obama has the popular vote, the electoral vote. Stopping voters from voting is the only way Romney/Ryan have and will use to their benefit. What we can do is ask any and everyone if their vote is in danger, and use that to help them vote. The GOPTP is afraid of votes, because they know they are sunk. Do not let them win this game. Folks know Romney/Ryan is a disaster, and we need to be vigilant to make sure it doesn't happen.
Shady G
The better question is why are you so stupid? What coverup? Haven'y you figured out yet that the Romney bunch have found it easier to just make sh!t up. They are counting on the overwhelming amount of money that is soon going to rain down on us to buy them their election.
They are so desperate they know they are losing so we get stuff like voter suppression and other stuff like less voting days and ballots that take ours to fill out.
I don't see how pepople that claim to be good Americans can sit still for that crap and vote for those that are violating out trust.
Yeah, I'm wondering about this mystery "cover-up," too. Since everyone knows about it, and knew about it pretty much immediately, there wasn't a real effort to cover anything up.
Moron.
Yep, Mr. Romney:
I trust your (secret) polls
I trust your (secret) tax percentages for the last 10 years
I trust your (secret) tax loophole closures for the rest of us
I trust your (more or less incoherent and/or debunked) plan to reform medicare
I trust your (unintelligible and/or belligerent) foreign policy stance
I trust your (private) consideration of the dependent and irresponsible 47%
I trust your (undemonstrated) job creating while at Bain (or not at Bain, it's hard to know because it's (secret)).
I trust you
To Lose
Obama Biden 2012
Just another instance where Mittens refuses to listen to the people and again chooses to go with the voices in his head.
How can anyone say with a straight face that If he was to ever get elected that he would change and listen to the people?
Mitt does not want to listen to anyone...he just wants to tell everyone what he hears. He doesn't want to talk to anyone..he just wants to talk AT them.
This fool could not be a bigger clown if he had red hair and a red rubber ball nose.
Six weeks to go: An eternity in presidential elections. I wonder if the internal Romney poling data factors in the number of Obama supporters who will be unable to cast a ballot. A result of the reduced number of early voting days or those who will simply give up when they wake up on Tuesday, November 6 with live images of miles-long lines at the polls.
DB Akron -
I honestly cannot see where you get your data! Sources, please?
No, they are not! At least not the ones I look at! Most of them actually poll randomly by phone. If they are oversampling Democrats, it is because they manage to reach more Democrats by phone with a random selection. What does that tell you? That maybe a random selection of phone numbers yields more Democrats than Republicans? That maybe Democrats outnumber Republicans?
I have trouble even getting any sense out of that statement! If I get the gist of it, you are saying that college kids voted in large numbers in 2008, they are graduated, unemployed and saddled with huge debts in 2012, so they will vote Republican this year. Is that correct?
Does it also dawn on you that they are educated and well aware of exactly why they cannot find a job? That they might be aware of the failed Republican policies and the failed Republican president that trashed the economy in the first place, leaving no jobs?
As I said to begin with, I have no idea where you get your data! Source, please?
Everything I read shows an advantage for new Republican voters in the swing states but they still show that overall, there are more total registered Democrats than Republicans in those states. The best number I could find, in a Republican leaning site, of course, was a 2 to 1 advantage, NOT 10 to 1 as you suggest!
What should be worrying to you and both parties, however, is that the number of new Republican or Democratic voters is swamped, absolutely swamped, by the number of new Independent voters registering! Neither party is going to win this election solely on their base. They must woo independent voters. Republicans have not been doing a very good job of that at all.
Romney: "I reject your reality and substitute my own."
It sounds like the Romney campaign is out of touch with reality, refusing to believe anything but their own numbers (which are probably grossly incorrect.) They don't believe in fact checking.
Romney would govern the same way.
Mitt's dead in O HI O...
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
Shady G sounds like a stuck record with repeated posts of the same factoid............what's up with Shady G...........brain freeze or conservative "repeat it often enough until it becomes a fact'
Romney also trusts his own math, the one where 2+2= whatever Romney wants.
what none of you are taking into account is the republicans control the election boards in swing states and they have planned on cheating from the very start, that is what this delusional talk of the race being tighter is all about, they don't want the theft of the White House to be too obvious. If they agreed the polls were showing an 8 point lead they would not be able to get away with it, but if they claim the polls are flawed then when Romney win because of the Republican Governors it wont cause so much of a stir. These "people" and I use the term very loosely, have proved that honesty, morals and ethics mean nothing to them. They are will to lie, cheat, steal and as that judge in texas (no I wont capitalize it) put it, "go to war" to stop President Obama from winning a second term. They have begun to believe their own propaganda and literally drove themselves insane, they belong in a rubber room, locked up so they can't hurt themselves or this nation, and I do mean the entire lot of them.
Shady,
Act of war against whom?
We are already at war against al Qaida. Is there another level of a declaration of war?
Does an additional declaration of war mean we sent more troops and more money into any country that allows al Qaida to exists?
Just what do you really want … spell it out … your hidden agenda, that is.
Today or tomorrow, the Franklin and Marshall College Poll (the oldest college poll in the nation) will release survey results for September. I predict they will show that support for President Obama has grown in Pennsylvania over what it was in August when he led Romney by 6 points:
Romney has all but given up on Pennsylvania, DB. I don't know where you get your information (maybe from the same place Romney gets his?)
Reality has a liberal bias.
VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN NOVEMBER 6
WTF??? No he didn't.
Try reading something other than right wing media and buying their sound bytes. Sheez!
Shady,
You want more drone attacks while he [Obama] is being called a war criminal for his use of them.
You look for simplistic answers to extremely complex issues.
Well, I mean, really, what are they going to say? To say anything else would indicate that their campaign is an exercise in futility and they might as well fold their tent now and save the country some money.
Just another sign that it's over.
Unless Romney and his crew have cooked up an "October surprise" it's over.
Is it just me or are the GOP apologists kind of thin on the ground regarding this story?
Obama/Biden 2012
just like the Romney camp doesn't trust the fact checkers
I think Romney would say he believes in the Tooth Fairy if it somehow made him feel better about the crappy campaign he's created.
Shady G
it is not an act of war because no country has attacked us. A group of people did.
start with the basics and learn the difference between the "act of war" and the “international/domestic terrorism.”
I agree completely. The GOP has shown itself to be capable of and willing to suppress votes and rig elections.
Most rational voters can see for themselves that Romney is a deeply flawed candidate. Even many prominent Republicans feel that way and have expressed their dismay in his candidacy and his campaign. The race has been portrayed as close by the media simply to increase interest and maintain readership/ viewership.
It is up to us, the voters, to refuse to let Republicans buy, lie and cheat their way into the White House.
We all need to be part of the grassroots effort to ensure the President's re-election. Get involved in your communities to register Democrats and help them get to the polls on November 6.
We are Americans! We must stand up for one person, one vote!
E Engineer
NO, republicans and independents have a tendency to hang up on polls or simply don't answer numbers that do not identify who they are. If the polling company identifies itself, they might pick up, but usually not.
Furthermore, toll free numbers have a tendency to be solicitations for money, Polling companies, debt resolution services, credit card companies, and banks trying to drum up business or even calling because your mortgage payment hasn't been received by the 5th day of grace period. Talking to most of them is a waste of time.
Amazing! This campaign doesn't cease to entertain!
Obama and his main stream media allies have taken off all restraints.
It is so much easier if you do not have to worry about things like facts, truth, and morality! Now Obama can get down to business. Bullsh-tting the American people!
With the help of his friends and allies, the main street media, he has unleashed such a barrage of miss-information and outright lies on an unprecedented scale!
Now Romney believes his own data over the main street media and you guys laugh at that.
Wow! I guess you really have to dumb down to see what you people idolize about Obama

You should see the trolls over on the Libyan president interview...the fright wingers are making ridiculous claims. I can't believe some of their crap...jeesh, so brain washed by the teabaggers and Carl evil Rove! I honestly don't know how they get through the day with all of that hate clogging up their brains!
DP and KB,
While I share your paranoia regarding the GOP, their desperation and their proclivity for dirty tricks I don't think they would dare it this time and here's why.
1. (and this is the biggee) They knew from the start they were trouble this cycle. They spent all their capital in 2010 and made promises they never fulfilled (still waiting for those JOBS Mr. Boehner). Congress' approval ratings are at historic lows and polls showed the majority of the Americans blamed the GOP. So, why not give Romney "his turn" like they did McCain. Get it over with and get ready for 2016. Even the hint of dirty tricks could be fatal for the new GOP.
2. We'll be watching. This election will probably be the most closely watched election in history. They wouldn't dare run the risk.
3. They wrote off this cycle long ago. Look at all the GOP whack jobs who came out of the woodwork. Do you think they would have been given the stage if the GOP thought they had a snowballs chance. Look how all their "viable" candidates (Christie, Rubio, etc) stood on the sidelines.
4. 2016, the Empire Strikes Back. Romney, Bachman, Cain, Perry, Santorum, even Ryan have all had their chance. Now it's time to let the big boys play. (Hey, hey, hey it's FAT CHRISTIE...you know, like Cosby's Fat Albert, get it?)
It's over, Romney knows it, Rove knows it,(in fact Rove knew it before the primaries) all they can do is damage control and prepare for the open seat in four years.
Obama/Biden 2012
Perhaps the data Romney is using for his polls comes form the same place that tells Republicans the earth is only 6,000 years old and world wide temperatures aren't increasing.
This is incredible. "Romney has not debated in 10 Years" WTF was the republican primary was about. He had 20 debates during that period. WTF
Or could it be Mittwitt is just a Nittwitt and don't know what the f-u-c-k he is talking about anyway.
Also I trust my inhouse polling statement is telling the public to:
F-U-C-K O-F-F Low life scum 47%
Can you believe this sh!t he tell us it again. WOW I want to know the hateful person who is voting for this man of a shell.
President Obama 2012
You people on this site are so brainwashed. I still think you get paid for doing this. You better wake up, and soon. There are bigger things than this going on in this country. Did you happen to catch the cleric in NY give his speech about how there should be an international law that prohibits anything derogatory said about Mohammed? Our freedom of speech is being attacked here. If Obama get's re-elected, we already know he is pro-Islam, if not a Muslim himself, and if our freedom of speech is gone you nit wits won't be able to get on this site and spew your venom anymore. What will you do with yourself all day?! Romney is a thoroughbred who loves America while Obama is a mongrel. What a piece of work his trashy flaky radical mom was, and his communist absentee polygamist dad. What a pedigree he comes from!! Do you think Obama loves America and what she stands for anymore than his parents did? Obama is dismantling our constitution. He knew that something was going to happen in the middle but skips the intelligence meetings and now our ambassador is dead and the world is on fire. Wake up.
Romney/Ryan 2012
Did anyone else see Romney's recent speech where he was trying to get the crowd chanting Romney/ Ryan ?!!
OMG !! That was embarrassing,....awwwk-ward as heck. It made you just want to cover your head and cringe.
People "wrote off" Howard Dean for "the scream heard around the world",..."EeeAAAAWWWHHH". That was nothing compared to this crash and burn and the silence that followed. It was so bad,...nobody said anything. We're all trying to forget. What a DORK !!!
Mitt Romney is one fake, out-of-touch, unrelatable, UNELECTABLE guy. This man is NOT presidential !!
That would have been funny if it was so mind blowingly creepy.
Romney has spent a whole lot of money to BUY this election,...I think he EXPECTED more for his money. No wonder he looks disappointed.
MONEY is supposed to allow you to have everything your way- right Mitt ?? , despite what is right or wrong for the country - or - it's people.
All the super PAC cash has bought a LOT of GOP brainwashing misrepresentation by cocky self-assured pundits who force feed the public their opinions.
I think we have all gotten plenty tired of the Rush Limbaughs of this world.
Make your dislike of pushy, angry, one-sided, selfish Limbaugh-speak known with your vote.
Vote DEMOCRAT - across the board - this November.
Despite the GOP message,....this country IS about the MIDDLE CLASS.
Vote for the middle class. Vote for "We the people". Vote Obama/Biden
The Ohio Quinnipiac poll has Obama 53 Romney 43.
They are using 50% Democrats, 40% Republicans adn 10% Independents. In 2008 the CNN exit poll mix was 39% Democrat, 31% Republican, and 30% independent. It's kind of helpful to note that Independents are voting for Romney by a 49% to 46% margin. The independent group is consistently leaning to romney by 4 points
It is all helpful to know that Gravis oversampled Democrats by 2 points with 41% democrats, 31% Republicans, and the poll showed Obama up only 1 point.
We need to quit accepting the public polls as really meaning anything.
Looks like the Romney Camp got it's info on the polls from Mars !!!!!!!!!
DB,
How does oversampling help one Party/candidate over the other?
I can see it either way. If our President is perceived to have a solid lead it will encourage Republicans to GOTV while Dems will stay at home.
On the other hand if the polls show our President to have a solid lead it could discourage Conservatives and they will stay home on Election Day.
Some say it will help fundraising due to the enthusiasm but again it will play to both sides because if the polls indicate a win because they lead people will say they are winning already and don’t need my money.
As I see it the advantage for oversampling goes to no one.
Hahahaha! I see, only Republicans and independents hang up or don't answer?
Your reasoning gets more and more specious.
Well, then! Given Romney's recent comments, more of those Democratic slackers would be the ones not answering the phones for polls. After all, since they can't take responsibility for their lives, wouldn't they be more likely to have debt collectors or credit card companies or a late mortgage payment calls and be less likely to answer when polls call?
No, all of your arguments for any bias in the polls are based strictly on your own hopes, not any facts!
Operative Shady,
I have a good asssignment for you, why don't YOU report the incompetence you keep referencing and then get back to us with YOUR answers? Since you seem to be the only person who believes your conspiracy theory (besides the voices in your head), that is your next assignment. Please make sure to wear your tin-foil hat for protection, as they will probably try to control your mind and make you say stupid things (Uh Oh.............it's too late, they have already taken control of you)
In all fairness I think the polls are right !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Obama - Gets 76% !!!!!!!!!!!
Romney - gets 24% !!!!!!!!!!
Romney's campaign has to spin things any way they can to prevent losing face. They will still, however, lose the election, and by a landslide.
The Republican candidate is not just a horrible candidate, he's a horrible human being, the kind of guy you dislike instantly upon meeting for his arrogance and superior attitude. He can no more understand the needs and desires of an ordinary, middle-class citizen than I can understand an ant. He lives in the rarified air of the uber-wealthy, and probably can't understand why we serfs don't just go get money; it's easy for him.
Obama, who I think is the worst president I've ever had the misfortune of suffering through (and that includes Nixon and Carter) is only slightly less terrible. But he buys the votes of those who want a bunch of free stuff paid for with my tax dollars, and he'll win handily. Look for the economy to collapse completely sometime afterward. Not wanting to face the headwinds that an unfettered and emboldened Obama will use to attack the free market, businesses that were teetering on the edge will finally just give up and close their doors with an Obama win. Watch and see.
We're caught between a rock and a hard place. I would sooner vote for my dog than either of these two bastards. A pox on both of them.
So tell us, DB... if the poll showed the opposite result, with Romney ahead by 10 points, would you still call it meaningless?
I agree with that part! Romney is an evil man, a true wolf in sheep's clothing.
As for your opinion that Obama is 'buying votes with free stuff', that holds not a single drop of water. I don't get a penny's worth of free stuff.
As for your assertion that Obama is attacking the free market, that is also unsubstantiated. Obama might not even agree with these opinions, but I do:

Thank you, skip! I hope you're right. I defer to your greater wisdom in these matters.
I feel the polls have to be wrong. I can't believe that there are that many morons in the states that would elect this man after the poor performance of the last four years. I know there are a percentage of people who refuse to look at facts but lets be honest. No one in their right mind would vote for Obama again.
Anyone who would like to see what the president is capable of should really revisit the time in January of 2010 when the pub's invited president Obama to their House Republican Retreat. They weren't being nice really. They intended to crucify him in front of the public with Fox news doing the filming. President Obama handed them their asses.

Awwww KB, I'm blushing. I have no "wisdom" I just have opinions like everybody else.
The other thing we havn't considered is that even if Romney/Rove pull some stunts in OHIO it won't get them anywhere close to enough electoral votes. They have to have North Carolina, Florida, Virgina just to name a few, in order to win. Dirty tricks in Ohio are a waste of effort and runs the risk of exposing the fact that the only "voter fraud" being committed on a wide-spread basis is being committed by the GOP.
Let's keep in mind the old saying "The guilty dog always barks first." And who's been doing all the barking about voter fraud?
Obama/Biden 2012
@RedDevPS: You are right on beautiful and brainy lady. I would add though, much like "Red Cloud" at #1.77, the GOP are much more adept, and have gained more by "stealing elections" and directing votes, than by direct voter suppression. Much of their gamesmanship here is to bring up the phantoms of illicit voting, which riles those who have seen that wicked illusion, into fighting them, all the while though, GOP operatives are working with state and county election officials to circumvent voter intent, and often, changing votes from one candidate to another. It is why we see people, such as "Roy Wilson" and "DB Akron" post as they do. They already know those areas where this sh^t is most likely to happen. By voicing claims of "special knowledge" of true voter intent, that is contrary to traditional pollsters ahead of an election, they help to establish "probability of polling error" rather than any focus on actual "election theft" which is mostly always the case. My best to you Beautiful.
Hey, I went over to the Libyan President/Terror story and hooooboy the GOP trolls are swarming like Piranha's over there. I pooped in their pond just to let them know I havn't forgotten them. They'll collapse me in no time, but it was fun just the same.
But here's what I noticed. The trolls over there are CLEARLY the second string. The varsity team we're used to seeing here on First Read. I wonder where all those folks are? I still think the RNC cut off the funding for the boiler room and they're all at home watching FOX news.
Obama/Biden 2012
So now he doesn't trust "public polls," that's kind of like not working for the 47% as President.
I guess he and his crew will "manufacture" their own numbers poll in an attempt to show their cronies they are ahead. Poor Romney/Ryan, what a repeat of McCain/Palin.
OBAMA/BIDEN....2012!!!!
You folks need to learn that reality is NOT reality TV. The Washington Post is well known for padding their polls. They did it in 2008, polling 41% more Democrats than Republicans, they did it in their July poll
And they did it yet again in this poll.
It is a liberal media tactic to attempt discouragement of the Republicans. They THINK that by skewing the polls to reflect an almost overwhelming Obama lead that Romney supporters will just shrug their shoulders, believe that there is no reason to even go to the polls, and thus provide Obama with a win.
What THEY do not realize is that there is a HUGE contingency of Americans that are well aware that this is one of the most important elections of their lifetime, and that rather than discouraging us, it is increasing our determination to make sure OUR voices are heard!
For all those out there who want the liar in chief OUT of the White House - ignore the polls and go to the voting booth. Tell your friends and family that your voice DOES matter and that the polls are nothing but made up numbers by a liberal media trying to discourage you from voting. Remind them that the media did EXACTLY THE SAME THING IN 2008 - when they gave the election to Obama before it had even properly begun.
ROMNEY/RYAN IN 2012!!!
DB's argument in a nutshell: Polls are biased because they show more support for Obama, and we know that can't be right. So apply an arbitrary adjustment deflating Obama's numbers and inflating Romney's and, bam, you've got an "unbiased" poll that says Romney is winning, like he should be.
I've heard this argument quite a bit from right wing sources lately, but have yet to see a rigorous breakdown of historical data to lend it any validity.
The simplest answer for why polls would seem to be undersampling Republicans, if they are consistently and not just in cherry picked instances, is that generally fewer people are willing to identify as Republicans. That is consistent with damaged political brands, which "Republican" and "Tea Party" both are.
I guess we can add statistics to the ever growing list of academic subjects Republicans reject. The conservative solution: whenever reality doesn't fit your predefined preferences, just ignore reality and substitute a more convenient lie. Repeat it often enough and some people will start believing it.
He cannot do worse than our current President. Anyone who says otherwise is just lying to themselves. I mean, you just have to look at the record.
Economy = failed
Foreign Policy = failed
Leadership = failed
Celebrity superstar status for doing Nothing = Success (Kind of like Lyndsey Lohan)
As a Christian, I have issues with the scientists idea of evolution; now, ironically, Republicans are changing my mind on that. First, they don't like real "facts", so they make up their own; now, they don't like the poll numbers, so they make these up also. What's next? Will Republican candidates insist that elections be determined by their own vote results, also?
Well, I'd bet that the Romney campaign has informed the people in charge of the debates that he won't be taking any questions about:
1. Deductions which will be eliminated in the tax code
2. Cuts he will make to domestic programs
3. Why jet airplanes don't have windows.
The main stream media wouldn't know a FACT if it punched them in the nose!
And you folks with your FactCheck one stop shopping are deluding yourselves if you actually believe that they are unbiased. FactCheck is a spin off of Annenburg. Though the Annenburg Challenge was completed prior to the founding of FactCheck, IT IS STILL A BRANCH OF THE SAME ENTITY THAT HIRED OBAMA AS CHAIR OF THE INITIATIVE - so do you REALLY believe that FactCheck is impartial???
And Snopes utilizes FactCheck as a "reliable source" for much of their "fact checking." Which means that Snopes is, essentially, a mouthpiece for FactCheck.
Good grief people, are you all so dumbed down that you can't even see what is right in front of your face? Or are you so determined to believe that you are right that you just ignore anything that doesn't agree with your own ideology???
Ok, time to start getting out the national ads. Video clips of Boehner saying he got everything he wanted, of Scott Walker confessing he intends to bust unions, of the governor of Virginia? wanting women to have submit to ultrasounds, senate blocking the vote on veterans jobs, Mitt and his 47%, Akin and his legitimate rape statement, Rush calling Sandra Fluke whatever, Norquist and his no tax pledge, McConnell talking about making Obama fail, and etc. And at the end, a statement about how every GOP senate or house member is too radical, or too obstructionist, to elect in November.
Don't let the polls give anyone a false sense of security - finish strong, vote Dem
VOTE!!! Romney will win if we listen to the polls and believe that Obama will win. Some of us, convinced that Obama has it locked up, will not bother to vote, but I guarantee you every single Tea Partier will show up at the polls.
VOTE!!! If you can vote early, do it! Don't postpone until Election Day, and don't postpone it on Election Day. VOTE!!! As soon as you can. Don't let the liars win this one.
I have never seen such a discrepancy in the polls before. The most accurate pollster in the last 2 Presidential election (Rasmussen, with an average error of only 1%) has it tied nationally at 47% each, while liberal media driven polls show Obama ahead by about 4% among Likely Voters, and Gallup also has it essentially tied among 'Likely Voters', although they still show the more inaccurate 'Registered Voters' in their polls (which typically overstate the Democrat by about 4%). By the way - Gallup had an average bias favoring the Democrat of over 3% in 2004 & 2008. (Bias is defined as overstating results for a Party in their final poll when compared with actual results).
In looking at the details of the polls, it all boils down to the 'assumption' of the percentage of Democrats vs Republicans that the pollsters use to 'adjust' their polls. Most pollsters apparently 'assume' that there are about 7% to 10% more voters that self-identify as Democrats than Republicans now, but even in 2008, when there was a record high for Democrats and a record low for Republicans, the disparity was only 7% more Democrats.
Rasmussen conducts regular polls of 'Party Affiliation' and their most recent survey actually had more Republicans (37.6%) than Democrats (33.3%), so it really boils down to who is most correct about Party ID - I suspect that after the blowout by Republicans in the 2010 Mid-Term elections, Rasmussen is more likely correct, but time will tell.
By the way - for those who don't understand how polls work, pollsters never just 'take a sample and report the results' - here is an illustration;
The pollster takes a survey asking "If the election was held today, who would you vote for?"
Then they summarize how many said they would vote for each candidate and their Party ID. If the actual random sample had 10% more Republicans than Democrats and the pollster thinks there should be 10% more Democrats, the pollster would then 'adjust' his results by eliminating about 20% of the Republican voters to get to the figure that they think represents the actual makeup of the voters. Thus, if they find that the raw sample actually shows the Republican ahead by 10%, it would be 'adjusted' to show the Democrat ahead by 10%.
This 'adjustment' is critical because exit polls in 2004 & 2008 showed that voters vote 'Party-Line' by 90% for President. Thus if a pollster makes an incorrect 'assumption' by 10% for their adjustment, their error would be 90% of 10% = 9% error.
Since Rasmussen and Gallup regularly survey the Party Affiliation of voters, I trust their figures more than the partisan media driven polls. They both tend to agree very closely - the campaigns are essentially tied Nationally.
I come from a long line of staunch Republicans. My children, of their own volition (probably because we live in Idaho and because they are influenced by family) are Republicans. I have always leaned Rep/Ind. WHY? It's always been 'just vote for the least of two evils". No really good man can run because of the way the system is set up. This season really sucks! I cannot, after what Romney said, even think of voting for him. He has made it clear that he cares not for elderly people, women struggling to make it after being dumped by their ignorant men, and disabled people. Many of these people ARE/WERE his constituents. This seasons brings to my mind a song:
MAD WORLD (excerpt)
Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy birthday, happy birthday
And I feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me, what's my lesson?
Looked right through me, looked right through me
And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take
When people run in circles its a very, very
Mad world, mad world, enlarging your world Mad world
When will we quit being the HERD, and start thinking for ourselves. We are not Republicans or Democrats. We are Americans!
Meant to say "No really good man or woman can run..." but the edit didn't work.
We go through this every week. The polls are assuming Democrat turnout to be even better than it was in 2008 which is just nonsense!
The washington post poll is as follows.
9/23/12 OH 35D 26 R 35I - Democrat +9
9/23/12 OH RV 35D 27R 34I - Democrat +8
9/23/12 OH LV 37D 30R 30I - Democrat +7
Obama shows a 8 point lead in Ohio using 2008 numbers but if you use 2004 or even 2010 numbers you would see Romney in the lead or at worst tied. No one knows what the turn out will be this year but to believe Obama could match his 2008 numbers in today's world is incompetent and a big lie.
The polls are 100% right, I feel so sorry for the Romney's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is there anything you have actually seen Roy? Most of your posts begin with "I have never seen". So, are you a toddler or do you keep your eyes closed all the time?
Good argument! With all the data and proof you have decided to put your fingers in your ear and say lalalalalalalalalalalala.
Can't you silly liberals even try to make an argument based on some kind fact, statistic, or data? The polls are right is nothing more than a misguided opinion or statement with nothing of substance to back up your claim. And you wonder why no one takes you seriously.
Really Shellie? What are you four? His posts begin with "I have never seen" and than he goes on to explain the skewed polls that he has never seen so badly skewed. Unless you are not able to read a full sentence calling him a toddler with his eyes closed when he was very specific about what he had never seen is in itself a toddler type response. Grow up and get with Pathetic American to try and come up with some real arguments based on substance.
Unless you low IQ voters have something that contradicts what we have posted as far as the skewed polling data goes, please just keep silent. This is not for my benefit but to save you from embarrassing yourself even more with responses that have no substance or facts in them but make fun and call names of others who have backed up their post with real data. You look foolish with such pathetic responses.
About this point in time I am wondering.....
what Mitt will do with no job, no status & no support after he is handed his head on a platter come Nov.
He won't even have a church or religion to return to after his Mormon Example of lying, he has set the church back 50 years.... the future for Mitt is just as empty as his proposals & his honesty .
The shallowness of Mitt makes a dime look like a skyscraper by comparison !
Isn't it interesting watching DB running in circles like a dog chasing it's tail?
In a nutshell - polls are incorrect because most Republicans hang up on them. How does DB know that most Republicans hang up if there wasn't a poll conducted of Republicans asking whether they take or hang up on polls? How did they take this accurate poll of Republicans if most Republicans hang up on polls??? By DB's own admission, polls including Republicans are grossly inaccurate, making DB's entire argument grossly inaccurate.
DB has apparently contracted a case of Miss Mittsy's Syndrome....it's when you have to lie and deflect SO much that you end up chasing your own tail and then, instead of shutting up and sitting down, you end up slipping past your tail and shoving your head up your butt.
It's a rare phenomena but, as in Mittsy's case, in severe cases the patient manages to put both feet in their mouth before lodging their head in their nether regions. DB should seek professional help now or really bone up on the yoga.
Skip Nicholson, OKC - Your analysis for why the GOP can't steal this election is (somewhat) comforting. But head over to Salon dot com and check out the article by Brad Friedman. There are already charges of voter registration fraud in Florida by a firm with ties to Romney. The GOP isn't even subtle about it.
I'd rather Romney pay taxes than give his money to the Mormon Church. Last I looked the Mormon Church wasn't building roads or bridges in California. And the whole "I didn't claim all the deductions" is B.S. He just did that to keep his rate in double digits. Once the election is over you can bet money he will be filing an amended return!
Apparently the Obama Propaganda Machine has swayed a (small) majority of the US electorate. It's a shame they are so gullible, but it doesn't change the basic truth: Obama can't run on his record, he can't run on his lies and empty promises. So how can he run? Attack, attack, attack ... That's all he has left. Sadly that approach could be working.
Speaking of polls, the NBC Politics lead page on Friday had an interesting analysis: “A look at the candidates through social media” It shows that users of Facebook and Twitter intend to vote for Romney over Obama 36% to 32%, and express mostly negative feelings about Obama and mostly positive feelings about Romney.
All polls are skewed by the group of people they choose to sample from, of course, but I would think that these would be a relatively young bunch. What would make them so much more favorable for Romney?
So what. George W. Bush didn't run on his record in 2004. All he did was attack, attack, attack John Kerry who was, as Romney is, labeled a flip flopper. Romney's changed his stance so many times, no one can hardly believe him.
Most of the people in Twitter and Facebook that you think will vote for Romney are not US Citizens.... Look again!!!
tonybeeerm – That makes no sense at all. Are you are saying that running away from a failed record is a good thing? Or it's only good if Obama does it? Or Obama should do it as long as Bush did it first? Or ... what?
Romney's real problem will be the women's vote. They'll agree with their husbands and dis Obama in public, but once they're in that voting booth with the curtain closed, they're going to vote their heart and it ain't gonna be for Mitt and Ryan.
no kannin, it's means you can win the election by attacking your opponent like all politicians do, that's all. I know, it hurts because your guy is getting his clock cleaned on a regular basis and it's reflecting in the polls, but that's how the game is played these days. Matter of fact, I think it always has been that way. Look back through history at some campaigns and you'll see. I thought you claimed to be intelligent?
The CONS won't stop blaming Obama for everything.
That's why Obama is doing better.
If Obama had the ability to make the DO NOTHING, filibustering, 9% approved, obstructionist GOP controlled congress pass all of Obama's proposed job creation policies, it would have been done by now.
And, we would be better off in unemployment, the economy and all that other BS you keep pointing out.
Sorry CONS but Obama is not a King nor a Dictator as much as you make him out to be.
It is plain as day to see that the losers in the GOP are blocking everything that would benefit the country so they can put blame on just one man.
Only GOP policies caused the problems.
Kannin ...
Really? And the electoral college is just some dumb group of people in the United States that are swayed by the blowing of the wind????
Pick something else to whine about tonight. You totally got schooled by Coral Taxi on Palestine last night ....
Obama/Biden 2012
Really? And the electoral college is just some dumb group of people in the United States that are swayed by the blowing of the wind????
The electoral college should be abolished
BO 2012 nailed it. The republicons are doing nothing in this campaign but criticize and attack. They refuse to get specific or lay out a plan. Same thing with the teabagger House. Do nothing. Vote no. Filibuster. Delay. Obstruct. Go on vacation again. Fulfill the prime directive. Make him fail. Collateral damage like the middle class acceptable.
A bunch of freakin' robots with a robot for a 'leader'.
Satanick,
Agreed. Obama would win the popular vote hands down. Would have blown away the Republican party during the last election too. (and possibly made them regroup and reorganize!) As I recall that little electoral college certainly helped Jeb help his brother into the White House. Nepotism ... eh?
Obama/Biden 2012
Romney opens his mouth and stupidities comes out of it!!! Obama DOES NOT need a propaganda machine..Mitt Romney is doing his OWN DAMAGE
HE IS A FLIP FLOPPER THAT CAN'T HAVE A DEBATE WITH HIMSELF!!!!!
THE ONLY REASON THAT ROMNEY CAN WIN IS BECAUSE THE GOP HAS DEFRANCHISED MANY BLACK AND LATINO VOTERS!!!!!!
Put your money where your mouth is- you can get Romney at 4-1 from bookmakers.
Kannin, sadly like your mentor, Mitt Romney, you are living in a delusional world. You have programmed your mind to believe what you see in your para-psycho universe and instructed some parts of your brain to ignore facts and come to conclusion based on what you see Faux Pause news world.
As I said in an earlier comment, you should read the excerpts from Mark Zandi, Moody's Economist (well known and well regarded Economist) posted in today's Philly.com.
http://articles.philly.com/2012-09-24/news/34041847_1_stimulus-auto-bailout-reinvestment-act/3
I do not expect you to change your mind about the problems we faced as a country in Jan 2009 and what Obama has done to correct them and stabilize them. He could have done more had the recalcitrant House Republicans worked collaboratively with him instead of trying to undermine every opportunity during the past 4 years.
Shady, do a simple web search.
For example, Intrade, one of the top odds makers, has O at 72.6%... they don't make money by losing, and they don't give a rats A who wins.
"Romney camp trusts own data, strategy, not public polls, in Ohio"
"Own data" as in a redneck statistician cooking the poll numbers with a .45 pointed at his head...
Repubs are something else....
This election is so over Repubs....Get over it!
Obama 2012 !
Hillary Clinton 2016 !
Here, just follow Nate Silver's link from FiveThirtyEight.com to the oddsmakers:
One more time -----
All you teatards, birthers, flat earthers, religious fanatics, mindless dittoheads, evolution deniers, Fox noise cultist, conspiracy theorist, gun crazies and all around 15th century Republicans --- you better get used to President Obama because he's not leaving office until January 2017. Mitt Romney is one of the most worthless candidates in the history of this nation with no ideas to fix anything other than the failed policies of the past. Talking about In God We Trust on money, birth control, birth certificates, teleprompters, college transcripts and wars on religion while writing off 45% of the population and yelling socialist and Marxist over and over doesn’t attract many voters. And if you don’t come up with some new ideas and find an entirely new group of leaders, we just may have another President Clinton in 2017.
What a perfect description of Romney. Kannin would have us believe that twitter, facebook, and google tell us that Obama is negative in the use of those terms. Yet what Kannin refuses to tell us is how those terms are used. Twitter/Obama/Muslim for example are very popular terms to use. Kannin would have us believe that means Obama, on titter, is a Muslim. Sadly, the seething poor bastard doesn't get that it means people get asked the question on twitter, and they respond NO.
Now Kannin Tora, Tora, Tora is a phrase to google. Imagine if you will, the Japanese guy stuck in WWII in a sub in a lagoon, with coke bottle glasses. Thanks Kannin for the giggle.
Here you go:
From Nate Silver at FiveThirtyEight.com:
Current prediction is for Obama to win 312.3 electoral votes in November (to Romney's 225.7) Obama is up 9.7 since September 18th.
And if the election were held today, Obama would have a 96.4% chance of winning.
The GOP badly overestimated Americans' memory loss. We know who trashed the economy.
And we're not going to let you do it again.
I don't think there's any need to lower expectations for Romney in advance of the primaries; he's done a stellar job of keeping expectations low himself. Heck, with his multitude of positions, it's not like he even needs to someone else to debate against.
Hahahahaha! Yeah, Kannin, you must be right. This just can't have a damned thing to do with Romney's penchant for sticking his foot in his mouth, can it?
This tracks most of the rightist comments I see here - ah, the polls are rigged, it's Obama's attack ads, it's gullible voters, etc, etc. Yeah, blame it on anything, anything, anything except the fact that Romney is a weak candidate with a real talent for screwing up!
You can't trust the other polls, allright. Yesterday, Obama was ahead in Ohio by 8 points. Today, Obama is ahead by 10 points. Something must be wrong with the system. Maybe it was designed by the same boneheads that forgot to put roll down windows in jets.
Satanick
had it been in 2000, we would have had President Gore instead of President Bush
Most polls are based on a survey of 1000 people who are surveyed as to their opinion. The polling organization has no interest in being inaccurate. Their future revenues depend on their maintaining a reputation for accuracy.
On election day, we will see which polling organizations are right and which are wrong. Those that are right will see an increase in business in the next election cycle. Those that are wrong will see their business decline.
When someone says the polls are wrong, they are usually supporting the candidate that is coming up short. This is the Romney campaign's problem right now. The public perception, that they are losing, contributes to a loss in enthusiasm and lower donations.
Fortunately, for Republicans, millionaires and billionaires are betting on their tax cuts and can afford to lose their bet. With so many groups that run ads able to avoid disclosure of their donors, these billionaires and millionaires can avoid the stigma of supporting the loser here. They will continue to place their bets on Romney, since their return on investment is so high.
Sheldon Adelson, owner of the Venetian in Las Vegas, has said publicly that he will spend $100 million to get Romney elected. I have heard that he stands to save $3.2 billion on taxes under Romney's tax plan. That is a 3200% return on investment.

Another propaganda stunt which takes things out of context.. wise up.
Mitt's puppet master data suggests that if you factor in voter suppression, Corrupted voting machines and early voting before Mitt shows what a tool/dolt he is in the debates, They have a shot at corporate idealized fascism.
@ B White -
GREAT idea! I think I'll put a couple hundred on ROMNEY - that will take care of almost all my Christmas shopping!
ROBMEHOOD is a 4 to 1 underdog and it's getting worst by the day, it's painful watching him go down !!!!!!!!!!!!
You don't do much Christmas shopping do you Dee? Your poor kids, they will owe their ass this Christmas. LOL Maybe they can mow Romney's lawn.
Vegas line is President Obama +230 at the Venetian casino in Las Vegas (Bet $2.30 to wiin $1.00)
Romney is -175 (bet $1.00 to win $1.75)
I took $250 to win on President Obama - just to screw Sheldon out of a $100
If everyone that supports President Obama bet just $10.00 to win....we probably could break him.
To address the original post (#2) by "kannin" that accuses those who dislike Mittsy as being a part of the "Obama Propaganda Machine"...You will notice on post #13.5 below that "kannin" apologizes for the bold font that was used in post #13.1 by saying he was unable to change it when he cut and pasted it...
This leads me to one of two conclusions. One - "kannin" is far to stupid to know the meaning of, or the practice of spreading propaganda, which does explain why the teabaggers act like nazis, or, two - "kannin practices the grossly dishonest Karl Rove philosophy of politics where you blame the other side for doing precisely what you are doing.
Which is it, kannin? Are you completely stupid or are you grossly dishonest? Either way, it is a poor reflection on your mother and how she raised you. You should be ashamed of yourself for disgracing your mother so blatantly.
Yet another day, yet another teabagger exposing themselves for being the idiotic, manipulated, hateful pigs that they are.
Disgusting, "kannin". Absolutely disgusting.
I agree that Mitt can sound kind of off message and a little silly at times. You see, he is a successful businessman, not a professional liar!
Professional liars tend to be way more polished and never lack for something to say due to their Teleprompters. The ability to weave a tall tail, or lie, is the stock and trade of a good con man!
Wow, that Obama sure is polished!
To shockedandisgusted-You do not shock, you just disgust!

I'm curious: Is Romney going to have his own election, too? Or is that what the republicans are trying to do with the ALEC-written voter identification laws?
Polls are skewed.... funny how all the ones that they claim are skewed are the ones where they are behind!!!
which is most of them.
Republicon reality-bubble glasses firmly in place??? Check.
Republicans rely on the poll fairy and magical thinking.
This is how the republican party works now. Just like Jon Stewart said, "If you succeed, you built that, if you don't succeed, the government failed you."
They want it both ways, and they don't care if reality supports what they want. They'll just take it.
Of course, this attitude and methodology might be the reason Wrongme is losing support, literally, left and right.
By relying on your own data, that you have invented, you become further out of touch. I have said, since the beginning, that was Romney's major fault: being out of touch. He listens to his yesmen, his advisers insulate him from the real world (probably at his own request), and he refers to his own data and statistics, thus reinforcing his circular (and invalid) reasoning. When I thought he was a dumb as he could go, he proves me wrong. Oh darn it! It's raining, I'd better go roll up the windows on the jet.
Sure Mitt -- every pooling organization is wrong, every marketing research organization is wrong, everybody is wrong --- EXCEPT YOU. Sorry Mitt -- you're one of the very worst candidates of all times, you're a complete phony, you have no ideas, no solutions, no answers and you're NOT going to be president of the US.
Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan said it best when he said "You are entitled to your opinion. But you are not entitled to your own facts." No matter how much you may want to look like Brad Pitt you still look just like you.
All of the major polling services show Romney trailing by a significant margin. When reality intrudes upon his dreams, Mitt leaps into action and invents his own little world in which he is ahead. We'll see how Willard's home-made facts fare in the debates, though.

The GOP, especially the Tea Party, are truly starting to get worried. President Obama is starting to expand his lead beyond the margins of error in poll after poll. Even Rasmussen and Fox have to really adjust the numbers to put Romney at a tie.
What worries the Tea Party people even more is that their most treasured candidates are looking like they might lose too. Voters are waking up to the reality that just voting NO, naming post offices, banning contraceptives and banning abortions is just not creating the jobs that the Tea Party promised they would create in 2010. Where are the jobs Republicans ?
Real Clear Politics shows Romney trailing by 3.6 points - NOT a "significant amount." Additionally, Real Clear Politics take the all of the polls, combines the totals, and provides the average. Which is great as you get both the conservative polls mixed with the liberal polls, so it is a bit more realistic.
Plus or minus three points is within the margin of error and Obama is only 3.6 points ahead on the average. HOWEVER! When you take into consideration the padding of their numbers by polling SIGNIFICANTLY more Democrats than Republicans, AND the fact that four or five of the seven polling providers are left leaning padders, you get a MUCH different picture!
Romney would be a Pimp for the 1% !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm guessing Romney is going to hold his own election since he won't believe the Electoral Vote returns as they come in on election day. I can see him claiming he won after he loses in a landslide, and trying to drive his moving truck up to the White House gate on January 20th.
Trying to put out a forest fire with a thimble full of water. Ought to be interesting.
The Ostrich poll tells what Mitt the Ostrich wants to hear - contrary to reality.
It has gotten worse. Romney is not leading in any poll.

I still don't know why we can't open the windows on airplanes.
Clearly, airplane windows don't open to keep Republicans from jumping out.
I bet the windows on Romney's bus won't open either.
@Slimyone
LMMFAO = My coffee is now wearing me. DAM i have to go home to change my shirt. LOL
Life goes on without Romney !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I always click on the Real Clear Politics link on NBC's page to get a view of ALL the polls, not just the most extreme ones that get listed here. I agree with Romney - this isn't over by a long shot, and he's within the margin of error in a lot of polls. Check out Real Clear Politics yourself:
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latest_polls/elections/
You will never get all the polls. The internal ones are kept under wraps and only results are leaked once in a while. That leaking is only done when they see great abberation from the public polls (now) or it is a close race and they want their base to turn out.
The McCain camp once admitted that the public polls were within a couple points of their internal polls. We all know what happened in that race. What I was able to find out was that thier internal polls were giving them 1 point more than they got in a few key states that they lost in.
I've watched the polls since 2000. What I will tell you is that Democrat based polls outnumbered republican/Independent polls by 3 - 2 to 2 to 1. The democrat polls would overpoll democrats by 2 - 4 points. The Republican polls would overpoll Republicans by 1 - 2 points.
I would tell you that this year the democrats are approaching 4 polls to 1 Republican/Independent poll. Republicans are still padding about 1 -2 points in their favor, but the democrat polls are oversampling between 2 to 12 points. That is why you are seeing such wild swings.
Now that's funny! Have you looked at Real Clear Politics lately? I invite everyone to take a look.
DB Akron - it is about time someone called you on this crap! Sources, please!
Which ones are those? What polls do you consider Democratic? Which ones independent? Enough vague statements - list the polls and let us judge!
Again - sources, please! You base this on what? Your "gut"? Your Ouija board? Which polls are oversampling by 12 points? I want to know this! Because if you have any reliable evidence of this, then I know to discount that poll.
And if you can't back it up then I just have to assume that this is another round of Republican lies!
Actually, Romney's name appears about once in every daily poll there. Look on the right side. You see that one single poll that has Romney ahead? Rasmussen's poll is the only one. You see about twenty blue Obamas there.
He's losing, and after the debates, it should be all but over.
The Polls that I am concerned about?
There are over 30 states in the Union that are run by a Republican state government. Those states will stop at nothing to eliminate opposition voters at the polls on election day. It's happened every election since 1994 in Texas. The lengths they have gone to here this year are even worse than the last Presidential election. These are the only "polls" that concern me.
Apparently, Republicans read polls and believe them too. I have heard that Politico reports a Republican VP candidate has taken to calling Mitt by his new nickname "Stench".
As in the "Stench" campaign is hitting its stride as they continue to run the Welfare ad that seeks to portray the President as turning workfare into a giveaway program for the poor. The "stench" of this LIE permeates the Romney campaign. Almost all major news organizations label this claim as FALSE, since the new requirement for welfare requires an increase of 20% in job placement to be deemed permanent.
Romney LIES. Ryan's overcome by the "stench" of it all.
OBAMA 2012. For America's Future.
All you democrats laugh at Romney's airplane joke and say he is dumb. Where is your unbiased opinion of Obama who still thinks that the murder of Ambassador Stevens and 3 others was because of a movie. Even at the UN he blamed the movie when it has without a DOUBT been proven to be a terrorist act. Oh and it not a bump in the road. How stupid is Obama? Why don't you call him on not being a President during this crisis but a campaigner. The American people want a president governing our country, not someone who goes to fundraisers over intel briefings. Guess governing the country doesn't count during election season.
jjc9999 who cares the media is doing everything to reelect Obama. Current information shows that in a sampling of voters (1400) in Florida found at least 31 vote in Florida and New York. Against the law to vote in 2 states, those people should be put in prison.
My word, jjc9999. I live in the Caribbean now and this all sunds soooo third world. To think that our country is fallen so low really makes me shake my head!
Richard,
As the investigation of the killing of Libyan Ambassador Stevens continues, Obama administration has released info as it is obtained and confirmed. Presently, we know that demonstrations all over the middle east and elsewhere were reaction to the hateful anti-Muslim message of this film.
In Benghazi, it is clear that something more than just demonstrations were at work. A Libyan militia group is suspected of either planning the demonstration as a cover for their terrorist attack or that they took advantage of a spontaneous demonstration to launch their attack.
At this point, no one knows for sure except the militia group that did it. To falsely label demonstrators as terrorists would be reckless. After all, if it had been a spontaneous demonstration in reaction to increased awareness of this film, Muslims who were just angry at the film and protested and were not aware of the plans for the attack, would be falsely labelled as terrorists.
Part of our heritage is "innocent until proven guilty". Obama is being careful here to only say what he knows to be true that won't damage innocent people.
Restraint is not glamorous or macho, but in foreign relations, diplomacy requires restraint. Let's not compound our problems in the middle east with a rush to judgment.
Richard
So your answer to my statement about what I have personally experienced here in Texas re: state government voter fraud, is "so what". So, if I understand you correctly, a republican state government can commit crimes against it's citizens?
Right?
Your response is an "example" cited from a central Florida newspaper, about a phony Tea-Party " investigation"? Feel free to elaborate on who is being investigated, and who is doing the investigating.
You gave me a perfect example, of exactly what I am referring to, in Texas.
shaak -
No one in their right mind should have bought into the cover story that the anti-islamist movie trailer was the reason for the attack. First of all, who takes RPG's to a demonstration, secondly, it was obviously well planned in advance.
Additionally, CNN has released information from Ambassador Steven's personal journal that plainly states that he was concerned about security threats, Islamic extremism and being on an Al-Qaeda hit list. Do you really think that if Steven's was concerned that he didn't discuss it with Clinton or some other state department official? Seriously?
What is painfully obvious to anyone who isn't blindly following the MSM smoke and mirrors campaign is that Obama and his administration are doing everything they can to cover up the details of this incident. We are, after all, only a few weeks away from the presidential election and it wouldn't look good for him and his administration to be revealed for the bumbling apologetic fools that they are.
Dee, you tinfoil hat fell off. Maybe you better just wrap it around your whole head.
No surprise. This is the man who wonders why the windows on airplanes don't open. Wake up America! This man and the money behind him want the 1% to run the country. And us.
Pat, that smirk and stupid giggle of his is going to come out during the debates which all Americans will be watching. I firmly believe the polls will change drastically after seeing Seamus/Prancing Horse/Aircraft on the big stage.
Obama/Biden 2012
It is interesting that Romney's advisers are praising Obama's debating skills and knowledge in summarizing while the President will be a formidable debater. That doesn't sound like a guy in over his head. Moreover, I think Obama can slaughter Romney just by doing his homework on the facts. He can tear off Romney's head every time Romney says Obama raised taxes or Obama has lost jobs or Obama has made things worse. How simple it is to say in response that January of 2009 was the worst month for job creation in modern times. How simple it is to remind voters that the CBO says Romney's tax cut plans will make the deficit far worse. Moreover, I think the voters will be looking for any signs of inauthenticity on the part of Romney. Any more flip-flopping or falsehoods and Mitt is through.
Beyond - Romney has now flipped on the tax issue. Yesterday, he came out and admitted he has been lying about the tax increases. It would be impossible to do the claim/blame ploy with two diametrically opposed sets of numbers.
How could anybody say that taxes went up and yet still half of America don't pay Federal taxes? Well, that's what Rmoney has been saying. From ABCnews.com:
"In the midst of remarks otherwise ridiculing the president’s tax record, Romney said: “I admit this, [President Obama] has one thing he did not do in his first four years — he’s said he’s going to do in the next four years, which is to raise taxes.”
Behind him, Ryan appeared to wince at the mention.
During the primaries, Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul offered a very different view of the presidents record, when she told the L.A. Times: “President Obama has raised taxes 19 times.”
It should be noted that his claim that Obama is going to raise taxes in the next four years is also false, but getting the truth out of Romney is next to impossible. Here is how to understand this complex concept, Twitt:
The above scenario is not a tax increase. It is the lapse of the tax cut.
It is pretty easy for most of us to understand.
Of course he can't trust public polls. Those public polls contain too many of those 47% freeloaders.
Mitt, the twit. The party is in shambles, and has been before the Bushmasters came on the scene. They both rode their own wave behind the greedy oil companies while taking a stipend for being presidents.
Mitt hasn't got much more going for him than Sarah Palin did, except he couldn't win a beauty pageant.
A LOST PARTY ---- Hell, they would have been much, much better off bringing Ron Paul on board. They would have had a good chance at this thing then.
RON PAUL was the best candidate out there, but who the hay wants an honest, no BS person in there. He wouldn't play the game the way THE MACHINE wants the game to be played.
Think about it...
The only Republican that had a shot was Huntsman. But since he believed in science, facts and reality, he had no chance to win over the deluded Republican base.
We don't trust the public 47% polls. They aren't paying any taxes.
President Obama 2012
Obama's going to kick your a$$ in the debates.
I think the President made a mistake by not meeting with world leaders today in New York.
lisa, he met with 5 world leaders just recently.Don't you watch television? Dear Leader met with David Letterman, Jay-Z. Beyonce, Joy Bewhore, and Whoopi Goldberg. Where have you been?
John Thomas, Very funny
Joe Romney meet with his tax accountant...to hide more cheating
= Duh i did not know that big speech , In Front of the U.N. was a big thing ?
ANd it is the GOP that hates the UN, give me a break. Obama will talk to them at his time not some fabricated UN meeting. He is basically putting them on notice that they need to take action or face no support in aide or trading. I thought it very interesting today to hear Obama talk about what the US will do around the world while Rommey only talked about how they aren't going to get any help from us unless they can pass his personal test. What a dope standing on the stage of the Clinton Global Initiative, who's plan is to help people around the world, not tell them we won't help unless it is to our liking. You guys can't seem to see much beyond the end of your own nose.
My first memory of the John Birch Society was their claim back in 1967 that the U.N. was destroying the United States, and that the Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was also going to destroy the United States.
The teabaggers, descended from the idiots that used to be the John Birch Society, are the ones that are destroying the United States today.
Actually Starderup --- for the moat part, the teabaggers of today are the same people who claim back in 1967 that the U.N. was destroying the United States, and that the Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was also going to destroy the United States. That's how old most of them are.
Latest GOP quote: “I reject your reality and substitute the one that takes the most money out of your pocket and puts it into mine.”
Charlie: I agree; that is why I would not count on the elderly to vote for Obama. Libs. please don't count this in the book. We must get out and VOTE for

Exito,
So true! Dems cannot sit back and become complacent based on polls.
Some of you still buy into the myth that if the rich do not pay more in taxes that they are cheating you out of money.
The rich in most cases are paying way over fifty percent in earned income taxes. The dividends on investments are taxed at a lower rate.
I wish I had Romney's money, better yet his business talent. Then I to could be rich through my own efforts.
Yes, I still admire people who are more gifted then me. Whether it is in sports, Music, science or business. There are people amongst us who are more talented then us! They usually out perform us and out earn us!
Our current president would have us criminalize them. Some how, they are now the enemy! They are to blame for all your woes and they are going to get you!
Hitler used the Jews in his campaign of fear. Somehow they had created the bad conditions that the Germans were living in! Hitler offered up the Jews as the object of hate and fear!
In Socialist regimes it is always the rich. In each case the rich have been destroyed! Nothing changed! In fact, things always got worse. With no one left to challenge the new Socialist leaders they were free to implement there true plans!
Not one single person thought they were better off under a socialist regime. Their freedoms were gone and even the simplest decisions were made for them! They all lived the same and had the same!
In their country they were all middle class, lower class, but no upper class!
It has been estimated that the top 1% owns more financial wealth in the US than the bottom 42.7%. The top 20% owns 80%. Hell yes they should pay their fair share. Cutting their taxes merely increases the economic inequality in this country and that is shameful.
http://www2.ucsc.edu/whorulesamerica/power/wealth.html
Miss Mittsy can believe what ever he wants. The reality is that his numbers, in all matters, fail to add up for the majority of the American public.
NBC News and the Obama campaign (but I repeat myself) want to push the mantra that the election is over.
The election is not over. Many polls oversample Democrats...even if they are accurate, the numbers can change in a hurry.
No one at NBC have said the election is over...shows exactly how desperate you on the right are....
btw - aren't NBC's and FOX News Polls almost identical?
Guess that means with your theory FOX News is pushing that the election is over!
Bob would they still be "over sampling" Democrats if the results were in favor of Romney? I'll bet you wouldn't say a word about it.
Poor, bob. Just like the perverted, probing governor that you were supporting for the VP pick, you are again supporting the loser. I can't see how it is NBC's fault that your party picked such a lying piece of garbage.
It serves all of the US media to keep this as an exciting, neck and neck horse race. It sells more advertising. Your rant is simply sour grapes.
Try being responsible for your own pathetic party, for a change. After that, we might let you take off the training wheels.
Poor Bob .... still grasping at his proverbial straws. I'm pretty sure he's got a poster of Ann is his room with her "stop it! This is hard" statement underneath one of her finger waggling pics!
Obama/Biden 2012
Adler, there have been a few polls oversampling democrats and romney was still ahead. These were mostly in republican strongholds though.
Actually, I heard that the polls are favoring Dems and getting oversampled is because they are having a hard time finding people who admit to still being republicans!!
Bob, I know it is problematic to understand anything about mathematics above the 7th grade level. But, one more time, a poll should be a sample of the "universe" that they are studying. The idea is to be able to predict, accurately, a result. So, there is this one major problem for you guys, the US population has a higher percentage of democrats than republicans so the need to make the sample represent that fact. Now they also have to factor things like GOP people being more likely to actually vote than Dems. So, as you have seen, your guys are trying to keep some dems at home on election day and therefore mess up the poll results. Frankly, from what I have seen there are a lot of older people being dis-enfranchised by these actions and they commonly vote GOP so it appears to be rather ill planned.
"They are counting on the overwhelming amount of money that is soon going to rain down on us to buy them their election." --
Is anyone else concerned that Romney's campaign may be so confident simply because they've already arranged to buy the election? Not just with all the SuperPAC money, but because of backroom deals, partisan Secretaries of State, and behind-the-scenes machinations that have no visibility? That's what keeps me up at night...
I will agree that only one poll matters, and we have to vote in unprecedented numbers, not just to keep Mitt the Twitt out of the White House, but also to throw the obstructionist teabaggers out so we can get moving again.
Once Obama has been re-elected, they will no longer be able to focus on making Obama a one term president. Heck, they might even pass a jobs bill.
Where are all those jobs, Boehner? Where are the jobs?
People like Bob are funny to listen to. They totally deny reality and no amount of reasoning or logic will change their mind. But that doesn't change the reality that this election is over. And if Republicans don’t come up with some new ideas and find an entirely new group of leaders, we just may have another President Clinton in 2017.
Shockedanddisgusted - The majority? Really? Since when is 48% a majority? I think the addition fail is yours, not his.
yea, but at the end of the day, it's still Willard "mitt" Romney we're talking about. He's not very well perceived in the eyes of the majority. Call them what you will, low information or casual voters, they will still vote for the one with the most appeal. The president smokes him by double digits in that category.
The article only lists the 52% in Ohio...I'm guessing that you think your numbers are the only numbers that are correct? I wonder what Mittsy's numbers are in CA....
I'm going off of national polls, since your claim was that the majority of Americans feel that way... not the majority of Ohio...
My apologies, norcal...We'll talk numbers again in November.
I do not believe that the majority of Romney supporters support him because of his clear facts and accurate numbers. His support comes from the hatred of President Obama - not for the love of Mitt.
Poll that one and see what you get...
Romney is such a tool. The fools bought the summary
Shocked
Believe what you want, but many respect Romney's business sense and ability to turn lemons into lemonade.
Shocked, I actually agree with you about his rabid base voting reflexively. They don't care what he says, they'll vote for him no matter what (as seen by the less than spectacular shift in the polls, in spite of what most consider a disastrous few weeks for Romney.) But I think it took a while for Romney to build up that support. That's why I think he's been very light on the details. He had to get his rabid base behind him, so that when he turns out to be a moderate like he was in Mass, they'll still vote for him. (Obama has a rabid base too, btw.)
Notice that now that Romney's providing more details, they're a lot more moderate than he was when pandering to the right. He can do that safely now. He couldn't do that right after the primaries, when his support from his base was weak. But now, his true self -- the moderate -- actions speak louder than words -- will come out. And I think that's going to be a problem for Obama, since his actions will also speak louder than words, and his less than spectacular record of keeping his campaign promises will come back to haunt him.
It will be interesting to see what happens in November, that's for sure!
Show us the lemonade!
Looks to me like Bain made a lot of money for itself and left the companies squeezed dry.
DB Akron - Believe what you want, but many respect Romney's business sense and ability to turn lemons into lemonade.
Are you kidding me? Romney has had 1 job in the private sector. 1 job. That was Bain. He started it with his daddy's money. Business acumen? You got to be kidding. Show me a single job Mitt created. <crickets>
Rmoney's entire campaign has been smoke and mirrors, like his tax return fiasco. No plan, no specifics, nothing but trying to blame everything from solar flares to ingrown toenails on Obama.
DB - Quoting Sharon Angle? Do you really think that it will help Romney to use a direct quote from a woman that used it as a solution to pregnant victims of incest? Using that phrase in a political sense associates you with some very, very creepy people, DB. Perhaps you should regroup.
NorCal - That is the precise thing that makes me so nervous about Romney. I assumed, after his performance in the 2008 primaries, that he was very moderate and was simply pandering to the tea-people this year. That can be expected from any politician and I can also see changing some views about issues once you have done more research into them...but to do a full 180 on every significant social issue of the day and to have it coincide with what the tea-people have been chanting is disingenuous and obvious, particularly now that he is starting to tone it down to attract moderates. How can moderates trust him? How can the tea-people trust him?
It is the end of September in an election year and I still can not tell what the man really stands for and what his plan really is. Even then, does he really think he is going to get any of his plans through the Senate? The 60% majority works both ways and he is not going to have it. Who will be willing to negotiate with a man that will completely change his "views" just to get his way?
Most people see this and most people know that they are going to have problems reconciling the Romney they actually get with the Romney that got their vote. The only people Romney is sure to get are those that hate President Obama so much that they would rather vote for Peter Rabbit...and, regardless of the headlines they tend to receive, they consist of a very, very small percentage of the electorate.
The majority of the problems in the last 4 years has been due to the non-compromising Republicans in the Congress. Anyone that fails to see that and votes accordingly is doing their country a great disservice and deserves that government they get.
When the polls don't go your way ignore them for your own ideas. If the polls were going in his favor the Romney campaign would be touting how accurate they are and wouldn't need to find ways to give excuses to their followers. Unfortunately they do have to make excuses as to why Willard is losing and keeps slipping in the polls. He opens his mouth and slipps. I can't wait for the debates after which Obama will get even bigger bounces with each debate.
So Romney outsources jobs to China and now says he will level charges at them for not playing fair. Makes no sense to me then again nothing Romney has said makes very much sense as he cancels it and says something else. Sorry Mr. Romney cannot support you.
Kannin, a big font doesn't make it any more correct. Your boys are going down in flames ...
Stench/Gilligan ... the party of lies . .. .
The Energy Department has committed about $34.7 billion to nearly 40 projects under the low-interest loan programs.
Solyndra $500M
Ener 1 $120M
Beacon Power $43 M
Abound Solar $400 M
Amonix Solar $6 M
SpectraWatt $.5 M
Eastern Energy $16 M
------------------------
Total $1 Billion (+/- $100 mil)
A small FRACTION was lost.
The rest of the $35 Billion is allocated to energy which are still in effect and paying off.
The GOP and their policies have cost us $16 TRILLION.
You cannot name any obama nor democratic policies that cost us trillions.
Well Kannin your first point on Fisker Auto does not hold water. According to Politifact:
What Fisker got
In 2009, an American car company, Fisker Automotive, won a total of $528 million in loan guarantees to build two high-end electric hybrids, the Karma and the Atlantic (originally named Nina). The ultimate goal was to build the Atlantic at a defunct auto plant in Delaware. Work on the Atlantic is currently on hold, and the Delaware plant has yet to open.
The engineering and design for the Karma was done in the United States, but according to the U.S. Energy Department, the plan from the beginning was to build the cars in Finland. Fisker Automotive told ABC News this work employed about 500 Finnish workers. Company spokesman Roger Ornisher told PolitiFact that the plant has produced over 1,500 Karmas so far.
So what you are trying to say is Obama outsourced jobs as well. Well even if he did it means they both do the same thing so why change horses..
Sorry about the oversize font. It just came out that way from my cut-and-paste.
@bill bob philly#13.6: Indeed you are correct. The story does though, get much better. Thanks for sharing correct knowledge. Regards
Well, I guess we now have proof that Kannin doesn't think for himself.
You know, you're still welcome in the Democratic tent - if you'll just work at that little issue.
You know, it's mighty funny how Republicans scream "Solyndra failed! Solyndra failed!"
Despite the fact that it was a smart investment in America's future, and only a small part of the overall "green energy" investment.
Yet when anyone brings up the companies that failed after Bain took them over, the tune is, "Well, you have to take some risks to make money."
I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the right doesn't see the irony. But I always am.
I really hate all the Republican finger-pointing over Solyndra - particularly by Romney.
Green Lifestyle Consulting, June 4, 2012:
I should also point out that the loan to Solyndra was started and supported by then President George W. Bush and enacted by President Barrack Obama as it had moved through the system.
GOP Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney made a speech on 5/31/2012 in front of Solyndra's now closed headquarters about how President Barrack Obama made these loans with tax payer money and how bad that is. If you follow Romney's advice and look at his record as Governor of Massachusetts, you will see scarily familiar actions to what he is now criticizing as President Obama's lack of understanding of how business works. As reported on the Rachel Maddow Blog today, Romney is not in any position to point fingers about tax payer money being provided to now bankrupt solar companies.
Mitt Romney awarded a $1.5 million state grant to solar panel manufacturer Konarka Technologies shortly after taking office in 2003. Konarka Technologies filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and laid off 85 workers.
If that wasn't enough he also awarded $4.5 million (18% of the $25 million investment program) in loans to two firms run by his campaign donors.
And if that is not enough, the Romney administration provided millions of dollars to now bankrupt Evergreen Solar while he was governor.
One critical factor contributing to the failure of Solyndra was the import of cheap Chinese solar panels. The price fell because of foreign imports. Ryan voted against bills that would have taken action against unfair foreign competition. In spite of this, Ryan/Rmoney feel they have a leg to stand on, and have started chirping about how they are going to lay down the law to China. That won't happen. All the problems we face are complex. There isn't a locked room somewhere with a bunch of wall switches labelled "Economy", "Immigration" and "Health Care" where you can just walk over and change each one to "Fixed". If there were magical solutions, we'd have tried it by now.
@Kannin..
200 of President Obama's Accomplishmnets!!! I gave you 25..click the link for more & enlighten yourself!!!
1. Within his first week, he signed an Executive Order ordering an audit of government contracts, and combating waste and abuse.
2. Created the post of Chief Performance Officer, whose job it is to make operations more efficient to save the federal government money.
3. On his first full day, he froze White House salaries.
4. He appointed the first Federal Chief Information Officer to oversee federal IT spending.
5. He committed to phasing out unnecessary and outdated weapons systems. To that end, he also signed the Democratic-sponsored Weapons Systems Acquisition Reform Act, which attempted to put a stop to waste, fraud and abuse in the defense procurement and contracting system.
6. Through an executive order, he created the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform.
He Improved the Economy, Preventing a Bush Depression
7. Pushed through and signed the Democratic-sponsored American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, otherwise known as "the stimulus package." The bill passed, even though only three Republicans voted for it. In a major departure from the previous administration, he launched recovery.gov, a website that allows taxpayers to track spending from the Act.
8. The Bush-led Great Recession was costing the economy nearly 800,000 jobs per month by the time President Obama took office. But by the end of his first year, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act created and sustained 2.1 million jobs and stimulated the economyby 3.5%.
9. Not only did he completed the massive TARP financial and banking rescue plan, he also leaned on the banks and others, and recovered virtually all of the bail-out money.
10. He created the Making Home Affordable home refinancing plan.
11. Oversaw the creation of more jobs in 2010 alone than Bush did in eight years.
12. Along with Democrats, and almost no Republicans, implemented an auto industry rescue plan, and saved as many as 1 million jobs. Many are of the opinion that he saved the entire auto industry, and even the economy of the entire Midwest. This resulted in GM returning to its place as the top car company in the world. Willard Romney, on the other hand, advocated for the entire industry to go belly-up.
13. Doubled funding for the Manufacturing Extension Partnership, which is designed to improve manufacturing efficiency.
14. Signed the Democratic-sponsored Fraud Enforcement and Recovery Act giving the federal government more tools to investigate and prosecute fraud in every corner of the financial system, and create a bipartisan Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission to investigate the financial fraud that led to the economic meltdown.
15. Signed the Democratic-sponsored Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure (CARD) Act, which was designed to to protect consumers from unfair and deceptive credit card practices.
16. Increased infrastructure spending after years of neglect.
17. Signed the Democratic-sponsored and passed Helping Families Save Their Homes Act, expanding on the Making Home Affordable Program to help millions of Americans avoid preventable foreclosures. The bill also provided $2.2 billion to help combat homelessness, and to stabilize the housing market.
18. Through the Worker, Homeownership, and Business Assistance Act of 2009, he and Congressional Democrats provided tax credits to first-time home buyers, which helped the U.S. housing market recovery.
19. Initiated a $15 billion plan designed to encourage increased lending to small businesses.
20. Created business.gov, which allows for online collaboration between small businesses and experts re managing a business. (The program has since merged with SBA.gov.)
21. Played a lead role in getting the G-20 Summit to commit to a $1.1 trillion deal to combat the global financial crisis.
22. Took steps to improve minority access to capital.
23. Signed an Executive Order instructing federal agencies to review all federal regulations and remove any unnecessary and/or burdensome regulations from the books.
24. Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, saved at least 300,000 education jobs, such as teachers, principals, librarians, and counselors that would have otherwise been lost.
25. Dismantled the Minerals Management Service, thereby cutting ties between energy companies and the government.
Sadly, the polls indicate that Obama might win this election. We should consider the consequences of that so we will not be surprised.
Last week the Obama administration started its third round of printing fiat money (currency that a government has declared to be legal tender, despite the fact that it has no intrinsic value and is not backed by reserves). $600 billion is the current estimate. That's almost $2,000 apiece for every man, woman, and child in the country!
In the past, when governments have printed fiat money to cover their own expenses, there has been a short-term economic bump, but then inflation is always the ultimate result. To us, personally, that means that, if Obama is reelected, the buying power of our savings and income will be severely reduced within about 18 months.
Romney, by contrast, is a proponent of fiscal conservatism. That is, he recognizes the ill effects of deficit spending.
Under Romney, inflation may be relatively mild; under Obama it will be brutal. If you are lucky enough to still have a job, your salary may not go down, but it will buy a lot less gas and groceries.
Obama does not print money desperate CON.
The printing of new money to self pay debts is fraud.
The U.S. doesn't print new money, the FED does.
The FED is a private corporation not a govt entity.
The Federal Reserve (FED) controls the economy and it is not a government agency.
The FED is a private entity, a corporation, and by Republican't standards, since corporations are people, it is considered a person.
So to nail it, the whole economy is controlled by one person.
Hail to King FED!!!
Welcome to Royal America.
On December 23, 1913, the Federal Reserve System, which serves as the nation's central bank, was created by an act of Congress. The seven members of the Fed Board of Governors are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate to serve 14-year terms of office. The President designates, and the Senate confirms, two members of the Board to be Chairman and Vice Chairman, for four-year terms.
I'm sure you will not let mere facts stand in the way of your little rants, though.
What's your point?
The FED is still a private corporation.
Not even the President can tell them what to print, regardless of who is appointed.
Romney...when you go onto a plane open the window
BO - The president has the power to hire and fire the Fed Chairman. In the real world that means that the President is the boss.
The polls are skewed. Romney is making the correct call by ignoring them. It'll be a Romney/Ryan landslide. Especially after that embarassing display Obama put on at UN today. I think he was high.
Bernanke's decision to instigate QE3 was in the hope the economy would get a short term bounce for Obama before the elction. Another reason to reign in the Fed. Not only have they failed their charter repeatedly thru the years but now they're taking sides politically. Romney will fire Bernanke day one.
The chairman answers to a board when it comes to printing money.
Not to the President.
Get a clue CON.
Actually, no US entity can print currency, or mint coins except the US Treasury. US Federal Reserve backs our currency. Yes, US Federal Reserve is in fact a Delaware Corporation, and a Private entity. Not meant as a smart ass. Regards
Thanks for the cut-and-paste Kannin. You are probably not a bad person, because you are trying to help. Good luck.
The president has the power to appoint the fed chairman, but no power to fire. Once in office, the fed chair doesn't have to worry about job security for 14 years. And thus, he is not answerable to the president--at least not directly.
Your argument would be the equivalent of the president being the boss of the Supreme Court, which as everyone should know is blatantly false.
BO2012..Good job on schooling Con!
Per "kannin":
Also per "kannin":
You have contradicted youself with you incessant cutting and pasting, oh thoughtless "kannin". Confirmation of the Senate means just that. The President does not have the power to give the job to just anyone he wants. The President chooses the person he wants to fill the position BUT that person must also have the approval of the Senate...and, with the Senate Republicans filibustering everything they can to cripple the country and bring down the President, President Obama has to have a filibuster-proof majority of 60% to gain approval of the Senate for anything he wants done or anyone he wants to appoint.
Another "kannin" gem:
Perhaps, kannin, you should take your own idiotic advice and stop shaming those who raised you to be the propaganda barfing liar you have to be to defend a dirty creep like Mitt Romney.
Their data and metrics, maybe they should clue their nominee on some facts, that the Romney tape has showed us, especially seniors just what he thinks of half of the population of the US. Romney once enjoyed having seniors as part of his base supporters, then he brings on Ryan Mr kill medicare, and pretend vouchers are a "good deal" for them.
Is Romney having windows that roll down installed in his campaign plane? LOL
Just keep talking R&R, and Ryan so you want those union Ref's back? LOL
Didn't Romney brag he dominated "all of the repub debates"?
He did? I thought he was beaten like a rented mule. Rick Santorum had him tongue tied and stuttering, lol.
tonybeeerm ... can't wait for the stutter and smirk to arise yet again in front of a national crowd! It's going to be a fun night! Already have the party planned ....
Obama/Biden 2012
I do notice that that GOP smirk is not quiet ear to ear anymore on the daily news grind. I would say that is an idication of inside polling telling the truth.
Dominating all the republican debates is like being the tallest dwarf.
Or being the dwarf who is wearing highheels!!!
Romney: don't confuse me with the facts. just because the fox poll shows me 6 point behind, that's just a democrat trick. i have other information from unimpeachable sources (limbaugh) that show us ahead.
That's pretty sad, considering that if the polls were reversed they would be talking out of the other flip-flopping sides of their mouths . . . they're desperate now, I can smell it . . . rats on a sinking ship.
Voter ID that will allow Romney to win Ohio... Done!
Romney and the GOP can only win if they cheat, lie, use voter suppression and intimidation.
According to the Citizens United ruling, with their superpacs, they're holding Millions of dollars that could translate to votes.
Obama needs to tell everyone to start voting where voting started.
Obama also needs to start telling people to register to vote and get their ID's.
I have not heard him say that, and there are many people I know that have ZERO clue that they need one.
We may be active in politics but your average person next door is not.
Tell you friend or neighbor to register and to get their ID.
And... to "VOTE".
BO 2012 - sometimes it's up to us, the people on the ground to do just that. If you've liked their website or FB pages, trust me the President is getting that message out to social media!
Obama/Biden 2012
Yes it is.
Hence our postings.
We have to avoid becoming complacent. Sheldon Adelson and the Koch Brothers are going to unleash the money now. They want this hostile takeover of our country to go through, and they want to install Romney as CEO. Listen, they don't even hide it anymore. They said their primary goal was to make Obama fail, and they gave it their best shot. They failed. Now, Grover Norquist has come right out and said, "Pick a Republican with enough working digits to handle a pen." Romney happens to be able to handle a pen.
We don't consider that to be a qualifying characteristic, and we're not for sale.
"Romney and the GOP can only win if they cheat, lie, use voter suppression and intimidation" UH HUH, like the dems - right? No thanks.
One of the biggest problems that Mis-fit Mitt has besides being a a$$wipe, is having a crew like this in his corner. They will tell him anything and everything to make him feel good. Are all repukes unable to tell the truth at all.
17 out of 24 of Romney's advisers worked on George W. Bush's team. Romney claims he does not want to go backwards, but with Dubya's old team from 2000-2008, how could you NOT go backwards?
I know, right? This is the biggest joke there is that most of his advisers worked for GWB! I would never put this country in his "mitts"...LOL! They keep trying to fool themselves that they are ahead in the polls...they are lying to themselves!
Vote straight Democratic! Obama/Biden 2012
Yes....we can be assured the Romney Campaign Statistics department has reliably laughable mathematical formulas for calculating polls. This is the same department who has infamously calculated a Romney Budget with Pre-election details about Romney's taxation plan for himself and America.....NOT....LMAO
The only thing the Romney campaign is doing for me is causing me great difficulty deciding who is more stupid, Mitt or Sarah Palin.
Oh, I don't know shellie...when it comes to stupidity, looks like you could give anyone a run for their money. What a goober you are...
There is one word in describe responses of the Romney Campaign; denial.
It is impossible to know if the recent remarks by Romney that "no" course correction is needed for his campaign are the result of ego or simply refusing to accept reality.
Even in a state like AZ Romney is now listed within the margin of error for winning the state. Something you might think would cause any GOP candidate serious concern.
GOP RIP, your hatred of your fellow man merits your fate.
Gary Johnson should be allowed in on the presidential debates!
Great. Rely on your own team's polls. These are the same guys who decided that 47% of the population are non taxpaying victims who are all on the government dole.
Sure, Mitt - depend on your team. And don't be surprised when the keys to the White House are given back to Obama.
Democrat's are not taking this election for granted, we did learn from 2010.
My husband and I are volunteering this sat registering people to vote, like a lot of Dems in our area, have already signed up for permanent mail in ballots.
I don't believe the get out the hate vote will win. Romney has shown his true colors, and his words speak volumes. Flip-flop Flip-flop
hummbird,
Amen! And what you and your husband are doing to encourage the vote! FANTASTIC! Way to go!
Obama/Biden 2012
Great news hummbird, I did the same thing last saturday in Philly!! My best encounter was this Korean war vet who came up to tell us that he had been voting republican for 50 years and this would be the first time he would be voting democrat!! He said he just could not vote republican this year, he said it was wrong!!!
High five Trish! And what a great story to share!
Obama/Biden 2012
If my Korean war vet Uncles were still alive, it's a safe bet they'd be voting for Obama.
President Obama will win the debates because he does not underestimate the intelligence of the voters. MR lies and thinks the voters will believe what he says, (using Karl Rove's theory of just keep lying til they believe it)......ok there are some who will believe everything he says without actually checking facts from somewhere other than Fox News, but to use MR's standard response over the last few weeks: it's wonderful because it's wonderful and it's wonderful. We know it's a lie because it's a lie and it will always be a lie.
OBAMA/ BIDEN 2012
good for you guys -the only way the Republicans will win this election is through voter suppression and other evil actions - and we still know this is possible.
