Today's final deadline for embattled Missouri Republican Senate nominee Todd Akin to withdraw from the race is just hours away, and he has scheduled a news conference at 3:00 pm ET.
Is he potentially dropping out of the contest?
Not a chance, his campaign says.
"Staying in the race, as we've said," Ryan Hite, the campaign's communications director, said in a text message to NBC News.
"Just kicking off bus tour today and talking about Missouri Commonsense values as the bus tour title suggests," Hite continued. "Nothin[g] earth shattering."

According to Akin's campaign website, the Missouri Common Sense Bus Tour launches today and runs through Friday.
*** UPDATE *** Declaring that he "was given a trust" after winning a three-way Republican primary contest in August, Akin this afternoon affirmed he wouldn't quit his senate race.
"Over the period of the last number of weeks, a number of people have asked me, 'Are you quitting, are you dropping out?" Akin told supporters this afternoon. He added, "I don't believe that that is really my decision. The decision was made by the voters of the state of Missouri."
The event, meant to mark the kickoff of Akin's bus tour, was billed as a press conference, though Akin didn't take questions from the media.

I am glad to see Akin not let the Liberal trolls bully him around. Abortion is always thrown into the elections so the Democrats can dupe the militant females into voting Democrat. Roe versus Wade is over forty years old and has no chance of ever being undone. The social unrest would be tremendous and every politician knows this. So by removing this non-issue from the political discussions we find that Akin is a good representative for his constituency. I wonder how the Liberal trolls will react or say when he is re-elected?

Larry--you need to get on better drugs. Where did Akin get the notion of "legitimate" rape? Where exactly did he get the notion that women have some sort of secret death rays that can search out and destroy rapists' sperm? The only solid point there is the one on Akin's head.

Larry, if you haven't noticed, one of the main missions of Republicans is to undo Roe vs. Wade.
Even most liberal women agree that abortion is a tragedy and wouldn't choose it themselves, but they want the woman who is affected to be the one to make that decision based on her conscience and her moral and religious beliefs. That is not the business of government to decide women's reproductive choices. If that makes me a "feminazi" then so be that. I don't like abortion either, but if I needed one for a medical reason I would want it done in hospital, not on butcher block table with a coathanger or a knitting needle. It's hypocritical that those who wish to end choice in America also want NO education or access to birth control for those who need to know about it most, they have no interest in making it low cost, no interest in their taxes going to educate, feed, or otherwise assist children born in poverty to unwed mothers.
You can't have it both ways. In Europe you don't see the out of wedlock birth or abortion or sexually transmitted disease rates that you do here? WHY? Because everyone is educated on it and has access to getting birth control without any runaround from parental obstruction, the church, or the state, and often free of charge (prepaid by taxes of course, but still, no extra paying)--regardless of wealth or income. So don't start bleating about black women popping out welfare children to get more benefits which is why it happens here...in Europe, they get way better benefits than anyone ever dreamed of here...but they don't keep having kids. My cousin the UK gets to take off a year when her baby is born and her employers all have to rehire her.
To bonehead Larry, if the 'abortion' is a non issue brought up by the democrats...then why is it that Romney has promised if elected he would close down Planned Parenthood....and promised his ultra crazy right wing donors...that he would work to overturn 'Roe vs. Wade'. Man...you are so out-of-the-loop...I don't know where to begin. Ryan and Romney are BOTH behind a BILL that would limit abortions to only those who've been "legitimately" raped only...and actually Ryan doesn't even want those pregancies to be terminated. There have got to be poll numbers now in comparison to before he opened mouth and stuck in foot. What are they? The meaning of him staying in depends on those #'s; if he's staying in despite hemorrhaging support, then he's just an ideological self-absorbed idiot; if his support remains, it suggests that he has (too) much in common with his state's voters.

This has always been the Republican stumbing block. NO man nor government should be able to tell a woman what she can or can't do with her body. Period. Now if you the government to stop paying for or make late term abortions illegal, I'm all for it. But to force a woman to take a pregnancy full term because someone told you you can't have an abortion is bull$h!t. And yes I am a registered republican.
That he did not drop out as called for by his own party, it demonstrates his willing desire to collect that fat check he so desperately needs. I think it is time for him to use his other skills instead of representing people in government, like the shovel ready job waiting for him at the stockyards for which he is imminently qualified.

Gotta love these guys. A young woman just wants to be raped...if she goes out. If you are elderly and on medicare you are one of the 47% taking down the country. Although the motto is unofficial, Missourians look at it with pride as if to say they hold themselves to a higher standard of conservatism, they are stalwart in their firmly held beliefs, and they remain skeptical of any kind of change other than that which is home-grown.

Akin's approval numbers had a significant increase since the alleged controversy and he is leading the democrat challenger. Notice how liberals want to tell others what/how they should act- that he should resign. The fact that his poll #'s shot way up simply confirms the fact that most Americans are conservative. They are not zealous about killing more babies via abortion as the left is. (And the latter claims to have the moral high ground?!?!) Yes, it is a human being, and the circumstances do not make killing an innocent human being justified, not to mention that it adds further harm to the woman in having her have an abortion and live with the often life-long consequences of it.
As usual, if you want to know what the leftist is all about look at what they accuse others of- they claim "conservatives" want to control others but they are the ones who want to dictate what type of food or drink we can have, what type of personal habits we can engage in- e.g., smoking - or where and when we can do it, what we can or cannot do on or with our private property or business, what type of car we should drive, even what we can think or say, as they will only allow their politically correct views to be held and if you dissent you need to be silenced or punished somehow(e.g. chick fil a being outlawed from places because their president voiced his views on homo "marriage") And notice that most of the posts here are proof of this: full of name-calling, vitriol, vulgarity, like children who only know how to call you names. Concerned citizen, it is statements like that, that make me suspect you are a republican do you even know what socialism is or what it looks like? We are far from it and the only modern country who isn't. Socialism if done correctly is not a bad system ask the folks in Canada or Sweden, etc.. their folks live longer and make more money, their child mortality rate is lower. Having said all of that this President is not moving us towards anything but a recovery and I will take him over ANYONE else out there running for the job.
