Ryan, Packers fan: 'Give me a break. It is time to get the real refs,' draws line to Obama

CINCINNATI, OH -- Paul Ryan, an ardent Green Bay Packers fan, blasted NFL replacement referees for their questionable call last night that cost the Packers the game against the Seattle Seahawks.

“I got to start off on something that was really troubling that occurred last night," said the Wisconsin congressman and Republican vice-presidential nominee at the top of his town hall here. "Did you guys watch that Packer game last night? I mean, give me a break. It is time to get the real refs."

But he didn't stop there. Ryan actually tried to draw a line between the replacement refs and President Obama.

"And you know what, it reminds me of President Obama and the economy," he contended. "If you can’t get it right, it is time to get out. I half think these refs work part-time for the Obama administration in the Budget Office. They see the national debt clock staring them in the face. They see a debt crisis, and they just ignore and pretend it didn’t even happen. They are trying to pick the winners and losers, and they don’t even do that very well.”

*** UPDATE *** President Obama tweeted with the personal "BO" signature, meaning it came from him: "NFL fans on both sides of the aisle hope the refs' lockout is settled soon. -bo"

The Obama campaign then also tweeted out that Obama already called for the real refs to come back on a radio show last week.

On WTAM-AM in Cleveland, Obama said, "But one thing I got to say, though, is it just me or do we have to get our regular refs back? ... I can't get involved with it, but I'm just expressing my point of view as a sports fan."

Yeah, because the catastrophic fall of the US economy in 2008 is so much like a bad football call. I really don't want a President or VP who play games with my future.

Cold weather? No, but Obama 's policies are directly responsible for the worst economic recovery from a recession in US history, and Obama is responsible for 43 months of unemployment over 8%, an NFL and US record....

Why do people expect excellence in sports and officiating, but don't expect it in our day to day lives? Affirmative action was put in place to give everyone a chance. If these workers don't pan out, you still have to keep them in order to be "fair". After all, why can't I be a NFL player? It's not fair that I have to run a 40-yard dash in 4.2 seconds just to qualify. We should redistribute the talent. Slow the game down by making the faster guys wear weight belts. I want my trophy.

It was a stupid way of trying to attack the President and Paul Ryan needs to just stick to economic policie's and not try to to dog the Presidente very chance he gets. This is what's causing them to lose ground because they'd rather disparage the President about anything instead showing the American people what they'll do to get this economy turned around.

I'm sure if it rains tomorrow, Romney/Ryan will blame it on Obama

Yes, Eddie Munster from the JV team is going to call out the veteran quarterback. I wonder how his Congressional race is going since he's going to need something to do after November.

So, let me see if I got this. A candidate for vice president says the president has to do something about referees in football, and the president say, ha, I already tweeted a message on that.

There may be no country for old men, but this proves there is at least one for idiots.

Damn right....First Read, lined up in its usual "Obama prevent defense" mode, says Ryan "actually " attempted to draw a line between replacement refs and Obama.....

Yes he can and yes he did, quite successfully and witty.

Geez, Ryan, that's pretty damn lame, don't you think? How about an analogy between brushing your teeth and President Obama. It would make about as much sense. I know Ryan's a reasonably intelligent guy. Comments like this smack of desparation.

Hhhhmmmm...............another 4 years of this we can't have! It's exhausting. Time for CHANGE! Changing to Romney and Ryan. Sorry folks, I am a Democrat but I don't like Obama's policies especially the apologetic and sympathetic tone he takes towards the middle east or towards these terrorists. Just wish for one minute George Bush was president when those 4 Americans were slain in the embassy! The world of Islam disrespects US waaayyyyy to much!

ryan has a better shot at being an nfl ref then he does at being vice president.

The United States cannot afford to have Obama in for four more years. Let's cut our losses and put in a real president, Romney. All his promises of lower health costs was a bunch of bull. Prices has soared since he has been in. He has no clue, Romney is the only logical choice for President.

Ryan, if you don't know what your talking about and you come off as a neophyte, it's time for you and your big fraud President wannabee to back out of the election now. You, Romney, the GOP, The Tea Party, are completely out of touch with this nation. You want to nickel and dime hard working Americans while continuing to give vast sums of money to the already bloated military so the war machine can keep chugging along. You want to abolish unions, eliminate worker bargaining rights, privatize education, drastically reduce vital services like police and fire, cut state budgets to the bone.

I can't wait until Biden rips Ryan apart in the upcoming debate. Same goes for Romeny when Obama exposes him for the big fraud he is who only cares about his big business buddies and rich friends.

I was so glad I was stuck at home yesterday with workmen here, able then to watch all the TV coverage that was making the news!! I saw Ryan and his lame comparison attack on President Obama....he got NO cheers from that audience!! In fact, he and Romney got NO cheers from any of their audiences yesterday! And all the talk lately was about them having to bus in supporters since no one is showing up at the rallies so they've been busing in a rolling band of supporters. Like for the Latino rally last week....no one there and it was going to be canceled, but they got a busload together!! They don't seem to be able to draw flies in person!! Guess the Koch Bros. didn't consider people, only money!!!

BAD CALL REFS !!! But.... We seem to have alot of our society that wants to take from others that have and give to others that don't... Greenbay you have alot of wins .. Seattle doesn't ... So.... How does everyone feel about taking from the winners and giving to the less fortunate now ?

                            Reply#107 - Wed Sep 26, 2012 9:11 AM EDT

It is just a footbal game, there will be many more games where referees, regular and substitute will make a bad call.

Ryan is way out of comparing this to Obama administration. Not even close.

Republicans (Fascists) are such a joke because they dont even know what they believe. The union buster in now in favor of union labor. The only people who believe in the situational policies of the fascists, which is what ever is good for me and only me at this moment is what I believe, is grampa screaming at the clouds. This is a party that is literally going to die off in 20 years because you cant grow a party when you make war on labor, women, blacks, hispanics and gays. Who is left to vote for you other than the tiny number of Romney clones? This is literally the party of the antebellum south. They didnt notice the Civil War ended 150 years ago and they lost.
