Romney seizes on Obama's Middle East comment

Bloomberg View columnist William Cohan and Democratic strategist Julian Epstein discuss why Mitt Romney is still fumbling for answers over his 2011 tax return – despite their Friday release – and whether he’ll ever be able to explain how he pays for his proposed, across-the-board tax cuts.

DENVER -- Mitt Romney today attempted to shift focus to what he called President Barack Obama's lack of leadership in the Middle East, as world leaders began to gather in New York City for the opening of the United Nations General Assembly.

The Romney campaign this afternoon offered a series of interviews with major U.S. TV networks, in which Romney hammered Obama for referring to a series of flare-ups in the Middle East as "bumps in the road."

In Colorado, Mitt Romney insisted to NBC News that he'll win. The Obama campaign, meanwhile, has unveiled a new TV ad tying Romney's tax returns with his comments about the 47 percent. NBC's Chuck Todd reports.

"When the president was speaking about 'bumps in the road' he was talking about the developments in the Middle East, and that includes an assassination. It includes a Muslim Brotherhood individual becoming president of Egypt. It includes Syria being in tumult," Romney told NBC's Peter Alexander. "It includes Iran being on the cusp of nuclear capability. It includes Pakistan being in commotion."

Mitt Romney will stump in Colorado on Monday and then travel to Ohio via bus tour all ahead of next week's first debate. The Daily Rundown's Chuck Todd reports.

Romney continued, "There are extraordinary events going on in the Middle East, and considering those events, either one of them or all of them collectively, as bumps in the road shows a person who has a very different perspective about world affairs than the perspective I have. I think this is a time for America to exert leadership and this is not something that we are doing in the Middle East ... ."

Romney was referring to an answer Obama gave in an interview which aired last night on CBS News' "60 Minutes," in which the president defended his support for emerging governments in the Middle East as a result of the Arab spring.

Charles Dharapak / AP

Republican presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney boards his plane in Denver, Monday, Sept. 24, 2012.

Kroft: Have the events that took place in the Middle East, the recent events in the Middle East given you any pause about your support for the governments that have come to power following the Arab Spring?

Obama: Well, I'd said even at the time that this is going to be a rocky path. The question presumes that somehow we could have stopped this wave of change. I think it was absolutely the right thing for us to do to align ourselves with democracy, universal rights, a notion that people have to be able to participate in their own governance. But I was pretty certain and continue to be pretty certain that there are going to be bumps in the road because, you know, in a lot of these places, the one organizing principle has been Islam. The one part of society that hasn't been controlled completely by the government. There are strains of extremism, and anti-Americanism, and anti-Western sentiment. And, you know, can be tapped into by demagogues. There will probably be some times where we bump up against some of these countries and have strong disagreements, but I do think that over the long term we are more likely to get a Middle East and North Africa that is more peaceful, more prosperous and more aligned with our interests.

The Romney campaign seized on those comments -- in an attempt to chip away at the president's approval rating on foreign affairs, which slid in the last NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll to 49 percent.

(However, a series of NBC/WSJ/Marist polls in the battleground states of Colorado, Iowa, and Wisconsin show Obama enjoying a double-digit lead over Romney when it comes to who would better handle foreign policy.)

NBC's Peter Alexander spoke with Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney in Denver about the upcoming debates, world affairs, and if it is possible to change the tone in Washington.

The Obama White House fired back on Romney, arguing that it was "offensive" to suggest that the president was minimizing the deaths of four Americans in Libya, including the U.S. ambassador there.

"That assertion is both desperate and offensive," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said. "The president was referring to the transformations in the region, to this process that has -- only began less than two years ago, as we saw in Tunisia, and continues to this day, with remarkable transformations occurring in countries around the region."

Also in the interview, NBC's Alexander pressed Romney on the current polling that shows him trailing Obama.

Romney remained defiant.

"I'm very pleased with the fact that we have a campaign that is taking our message to the people across America,  and look --- we're gonna win," Romney said. "There is no question in my mind. We're gonna win."

NBC's Jordan Frasier contributed to this article.

* What really happened in Libya at our consulate?

* What did the State Department know in advance of the attacks?

* What did the President know in advance of the attacks?

* Why weren't our Embassies better protected on 9/11?

* Was Ambassador Rice instructed to lie on national TV by the Administration?

* Would the President's reported poor attendance at his national security briefings have prevented this?

Poor Mitt Romney, he'll never learn. His one and only road to the White House is the economy. But he keeps racing down these rabbit trails desperately trying to find something, anything, that will resonate with the electorate.

Mr. Romney, thank you for sharing your opinions but the President has things well under control and you really have more important things to attend to don't you? Don't you have some internal staff squabbles to deal with? Doesn't your poor, long-suffering wife need some comfort after melting down on the radio last week? Surely there is something that needs the immediate attention of a quarter of a Billion dollar man like yourself.

You would have thought after his last debacle he would have learned to keep his mouth shut.

It must SUCK (big time) to be Mitt Romney.

DeserterKing,

Regarding the long-overdue death of Osama bin Laden, President Obama (and ONLY President Obama) reprioritized the objective, approved the plan, issued the order, authorized the resources, maintained the secrecy, monitored the progress, and informed the nation and the world with steely resolve of the success of the SEAL Team 6 mission.

George, Dick, and Donald were long since retired, basking in the glow of all that might have been had they only been up to the challenge.

bin Laden beat Bush.

bin Laden beat Cheney.

bin Laden beat Rumsfeld.

bin Laden lasted less than 28 months under Obama.

Deal with it.

Romney's grasping at straws and Obama is right. Would Mitt have had us intervene in the uprisings? Put boots on the ground? Start yet another war we can't pay for?

Some people might not like the phrase "bumps in the road," but it's as accurate as any other. The aftermath of war, whether it be OIF or OEF or the Arab Spring, is a messy, unsatisfying affair, but you have to work through it to get to the other side.

It sucks our ambassador was killed and we have a right to be angry, but going to war with Libya over it is a destructive path Obama is avoiding. Good for him.

No he didn't. He stated he would not move heaven and earth going after Bin Laden, which is a perfectly fine statement. Obama did not do so either. When presented the opportunity, Obama took it. He did not direct all funding in the military for going after one man. This is perfectly consistent with the Romney comment.

Romney is spot on focusing on foreign affairs. Right now, the very dangerous middle east is a very dangerous mess, and Obama can't be bothered with it because he's too busy running around the country tryng to cover up his dismal 1st term. Iran is threatening a pre-emptive strike, 8 or 10 muslim countries are rioting against us, and Obozo wants our focus on Romney's tax returns.

And, oh, Obama didn't kill Bin Laden; the SEALs did. Obama is afraid of guns.

Misleading the public , blaming a film for the terrorist attack against our Ambassy and trowing our rights under the bus with apologies to Muslims. Obama spend thousand of dollars in Pakistan airing statements in TV condemning the Mohammad film. We need a president that stand for our rights, a president that show strainght not weakness when is necessary.

Obama made killing OBL a priority and it showed. When it comes to foreign affairs, Mitt wants to back Israel in a war with Iran. The guy is an empty suit, ESPECIALLY with foreign affairs. How many foiled terror attaches the last 4 years? Maybe a dozen. Oh, and BTW, these riots are fine with me. Jesse,

The actual Romney quote:

"It's not worth moving heaven and earth and spending billions of dollars just trying to catch one person,"

Obama stated in the 2008 debates that if had actionable intelligence he would go into Pakistan if necessary to get Bin Laden.

John McCain and his surrogate, Mitt Romney, both claimed this was a naive approach and mocked then-candidate Obama for his response.

In typical "pretzel-logic" fashion, Romney now claims "anyone" (including him) would have made the same decision.

This is just another in a LONG line of position reversals by Mitt Romney. Flip. Flop.

Sam, the ambassador was not drug anywhere. He died of smoke inhalation. Very tragic, but yeah these are the sorts of things that occur frequently in the middle east. Its a dangerous place. maybe we should leave it so all of the uneducated and unemployed religious extremists can kill each other. You do know that Muslims have been killing each other daily for the last 4000 years? You have heard of Sunni's and Shiite, correct? Let 'em be, they will continue to kill each other and maybe one day only the educated and employed will remain. Just a thought.

Romney didn't say he wouldn't go after Bibn Laden. This is what he actually said;

"We don't say those things. We keep our options quiet. We do not go out and say to a nation which is working with us, where we have collaborated and they are our friend and we're trying to support Musharraf and strengthen him and his nation, that instead that we intend to go in there and potentially bring out a unilateral attack. Recognize to win the war on jihad, we have to not only have a strong military of our own -- and we need a stronger military -- we also need to have strong friends around the world and help moderate Muslims reject the extreme. Because ultimately the only people who can finally defeat these radical Islamic jihadists are the Muslims themselves."

.....and if you read Joe Biden's comments on the same subject from 2008, you'll see that fully agreed with Romney.

Having now debunked that particular extremist-leftist lie, I have to ask the question; why is it that every-time Romney brings up an Obama weakness, it's reported as "Mitt Romney (attempting) to shift focus....." ?

Once again, the main stream media is allowing itself to be "pimped out" by Obama.

Oh and by the way; Obama didn't take out Bin laden. Seal team six did, and any MORON with a sixth (6th) grade education would have given that order.

The point is, though, that both the Apollo program and the bin Laden operation started long before the current Presidents were occupying the White House. Okay, Mitt, since you and the GOP are obviously losing and desperate, here's a suggestion for you: Release any one of the following:

1) Telol us about your family and how your grandparents (your grandfather and FIVE grandmothers) fled to Mexico to avoid prosecution for bigamy. And how your father re-entered the US illegally when fleeing the Mexican Revolution along with your grand parent(ssss). And tell us how you hate illegal immigrants. What's the issue here? The Dream Act? ROFL

2) If you won't release your income taxes for the same number of years you required of your Veep candidates, at least release them for the years they you have been running for president --- 9 years. What's the issue there? Swiss bank accounts, offshore shell companies, what?

3) And since we know that Kennedy wore boxers and Carter and Bush wore briefs, why not come clean about your under"garments"? Why are you the only candidate in history who has tried to sue to prevent the media from asking questions about your under"garments" ande even have included it as a rule in the debates? What's the issue here --- skid marks???

4) How about ONE white paper on foreign or domestic policy to which you can be held? Just one? What's the issue here --- don't know? or is the etch-a-sketch cloudy today?

5) How about just promising that you will NOT, EVER file an amended tax return to claim the $2.5 million in deductions that you "forgot" to take? Your campaign says you won't agree, but why not give it a shot? After all, it is just chump change, isn't it? Or was the 14.1% a "chump" rate designed to fool idiots?

Remember that Clinton passed when given the chance to kill bin laden.

You know what, hindsight is 20/20.

See the full analysis at factcheck.org. But the summary is worth noting here:

What is not in dispute at all is the fact that, in early 1996, American officials regarded Osama bin Laden as a financier of terrorism and not as a mastermind largely because, at the time, there was no real evidence that bin Laden had harmed American citizens. So even if the Sudanese government really did offer to hand bin Laden over, the U.S. would have had no grounds for detaining him. In fact, the Justice Department did not secure an indictment against bin Laden until 1998 – at which point Clinton did order a cruise missile attack on an al Qaeda camp in an attempt to kill bin Laden.

We have to be careful about engaging in what historians call "Whig history," which is the practice of assuming that historical figures value exactly the same things that we do today. It’s a fancy term for those "why didn’t someone just shoot Hitler in 1930?" questions that one hears in dorm-room bull sessions. The answer, of course, is that no one knew quite how bad Hitler was in 1930. The same is true of bin Laden in 1996.

Don't think that 20/20 hindsight thing is a right wing thing only. Remember, it's the leftists who turned a memo saying "bin Laden determined to hit US" one month before 9/11 into somehow meaning we could have figured out that a bunch of guys armed with box cutters were going to fly planes into buildings. What's clear is that each side blames the other and excuses their own guy's blunders.

Mitt Romney ignores that the new Libyan government is now going after the armed radical groups; he ignored that thousands of Libyans protested AGAINST the killing of Ambassador Stevens and 3 others; holding signs apologizing. It's a new government in a country ruled by a dictator for decades and as a result, they are attempting to put in place a whole new government. There will be "bumps" in the road; anyone with a brain cell would recognize that the road won't be paved for years to come.

My2fish, thanks for the laugh; it's almost too stupid a comment to think he really said it but then this is Mitt Romney. What's with his constant use of "aircraft"? Most people call them airplanes.

Oh Goddamn! Every Presidential candidate runs on what they will do about the middle east problem. Nary a one of 'em ever done anything, but at best, make things worse, except Carter, and even He overlooked Iran. What is your plan Mittens? Continue telling us how dangerous the place is? We all kinda know that already. That's the reason most of us think we should get the hell out of the place. You do yourself no good quoting the likes of John McCain. If Israel really wants to make peace with the Palestinians they know how to do it. Offer 'em statehood within Israel, as a part of Israel. Ignore and squeeze the hell outta the Iranians. The leaders will then have to turn their invective inward upon their people, and finally the people will take the sons-a -bitches down, the way It should happen.

Meantime Mittens, you and Ryan would gain more by demonstrating honesty and some basic knowledge of arithmetic.

It is easy for Romney to criticize Obama's foreign policy in the Middle East based on recent events there. However, the outrage over the provocative, anti-Muslim film will pass. The killing of our ambassador to Libya is resulting in moves by the Libyan government, as demanded by many Libyans, to take control or dismantle the many militia groups that operate there. This may well result in a more stable, pro-American government there.

Romney seeks to take political advantage from these events, while he offers no definitive foreign policy of his own. He sounds like he thinks threatening war will work there. But, he will find that empty threats will only undermine America's credibility there. What then? Go to war to make his threats real. This is no foreign policy, but only warmongering at its worst.

Romney is showing his ignorance here and I hope that Americans will get over their anger and realize that Obama's approach is the wisest available. Peace making calls for patience and restraint. Romney has shown neither quality.

Romney has also shown he has no respect for democracy in action in Egypt. He pretends that somehow he could determine who Egyptian voters choose to be their President. His attitude here is that of the "ugly American". This attitude of American superiority will yield little but more resentment based on our perceived meddling in Middle Eastern self-governance.

Romney will be a disaster for peace in the world and for America's place in that world.

"readbetweenthelines", you couldn't be more wrong. So you're still buying the "smoke inhalation" theory? The last time I checked, smoke inhalation didn't cause a persons face to bruise and swell like it had just been stomped by a dozen or so islamothugs. I'm guessing you haven't watched the sheer brutality displayed by these punks. Makes Chicago look tame by comparison. Our current foreign policy wonk is enabling/emboldining these punks to make further inroads to their collective goal.

"But I was pretty certain and continue to be pretty certain that there are going to be bumps in the road because, you know, in a lot of these places, the one organizing principle has been Islam. The one part of society that hasn't been controlled completely by the government"

Say whaaaaaaaaaat????? Name ONE country that is dominated by Islam that doesn't currently have a theocracy, or some form thereof. That has to be the most naive statement I've every heard from a world leader. I'm pretty sure he's heard of sharia law, seeing as how he studied at a wahhabism school during his stay in Indonesia. And there's the rub. The almighty bho knows EXACTLY how these islamic societies work, and for him to make this statement can only be taken as deliberately misleading, or terribly naive (which I don't think is the case...). Food for thought...

The problem is that the White House has put out wrong information from the very first - claiming the attack was a spontaneous reaction to a video clip. They have lost a lot of credibility on the issue and opened themselves up to attack. Frankly I have no faith in the accuracy of anything that comes out of the White House or the State Department on the issue since I think they care more about re election than the truth. Had they been more honest from the beginning then Romney wouldn't have the opening to criticize.

Romney didn't say he wouldn't go after Bibn Laden. This is what he actually said;

Way to pick the quote! This is actually the quote that everyone is on about:

I wouldn't want to over-concentrate on Bin Laden. He's one of many, many people who are involved in this global Jihadist effort. He's by no means the only leader. It's a very diverse group – Hamas, Hezbollah, al-Qaeda, Muslim Brotherhood and of course different names throughout the world. It's not worth moving heaven and earth and spending billions of dollars just trying to catch one person.

This caused a huge stir at the time, even among Republicans! McCain, for all his posturing now about Obama using Romney's quote against him, was very critical about Romney back in 2007:

At the time, however, Romney's then-primary rival Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said in response to Romney's comment that "it takes a degree of naiveté to think he's [bin Laden] not an element in the struggle against radical Islam."

After McCain hit him for the remark, Romney backtracked from it at a debate, saying "We'll move everything to get him."

Yeah, flip-flopping even back then!

Having now debunked that particular extremist-leftist lie

Why is it that every time extremist-rightist says they debunked a leftist lie, it really means that they have attempted to rewrite history once again?

ANYONE SEEN "2016".

Eye opening. As in - wow, truth. Why cant we get truth from the American media???

The Dems want everyone to just do as they are told.

That is not Democracy Dems. That is a dictatorship.

If you call yourself an informed voter - see 2016.

It is not from the GOP. It is not From Rush. It is not from FOX.

Sorry, you cant use those tired excuses.

It is from one single reporter who asked some questions.

Why cant we get this type of reporting from the USA media?????????

Yes, I saw it. It is quite an eye opener, and everyone should see it before election day. To the doubters out there: Most of the info comes right out of Obama's own book. The rest was careful research, and the maker of the movie stopped short of saying anything unprovable and outlandish.

I believed him also because I have met the form of political types that he says Obama is. The communist types that Obama knew years ago were not classic Marxists. They are a newer breed than the original Marx and Lenin. Karl Marx focused on two classes: worker and capitalist. It had nothing to do with nations. Workers were seen as exploited and capitalists as exploiters. The original Marx would see the American working class as exploited and he would advocate for the workers (and poor) right here in America and would organize them. Marx would favor a democratic government that is socialist. Lenin would see it the same way although he would want a more communistic authoritarian government. The idea of regarding a whole country as an evil exploiter and enemy ( saying a country is an evil exploiter even its poor and working people) is newer. And to regard a third world country as all innocent and righteous, including its native capitalist exploiters, is outside of the original Marx. This new breed of leftist is some more recent invention.

The original Marx and Lenin also saw religion as the opium of the people. They would not favor Islam over Christianity or cater to it as Obama has. Religion itself is an oppressor and is only a tool used by ruling classes to keep the people subjugated.

The movie does not draw this distinction between the sort of leftist Obama is and a traditional authentic communist. I do because i have known both kinds. This new breed often goes under the title communist. The RCP (Revolutionary Communist Party)is some of them. The last time I met anyone who thought the things this movie says Obama thought was that particular communist group. I met this group in Washington DC in 1990. A while later I met the SLP (Socialist Labor Party), and they were more of a traditional Marxist sort (Americans were not "evil").

So, this odd ideology of Obama does exist. I just never thought it would ever get in the white house. This kind of leftist you do not want. This sort wants to punish America and hand it all to the third world in some sort of weird penance. If one were to elect a Marxist, make sure he/she favors American workers and not foreigners over Americans.

Empress,

That someone is fighting for the working class does not make him a Marxist. That someone studies Buddhism does not make him a Buddhist. That someone studies the Bible does not make him a Christian.

That a filmmaker makes a movie about something does not make him an expert on the subject. That pre-existing bias is reinforced by watching a slick Hollywood production is not enlightenment or wisdom.

Facts are obvious here. Obama saved the auto industry and helped save those darn capitalist banks. That darn capitalist stock market is double its low of March 2009. If Obama was a Marxist, he ought to be fired for helping our capitalist system survive and prosper.

Since he is an American President and has demonstrated his resolve to strengthen our Capitalist economy, I am puzzled at this 2016 film and your comments. All I can conclude is that you see our Capitalist system as a system designed to enrich the rich at the expense of the working class. Apparently, you cannot see that a healthy balance between workers and investors must be maintained to assure the prosperity of both.

Our present economy is plagued by too much money in the hands of the few and too little money in the hands of the many. The top 1% earn 24% (same as before the Great Depression)of our nation's annual income now, up from 10% in 1980. This redistribution of income has resulted in too much investment money (production overcapacity) and too little consumer demand.

Obama has successfully preserved our Capitalist economy with little Republican help. It is the Republicans who obstruct further improvement in our economy. Perhaps, they are your Marxists.

Bin Laden, Bin Laden, Bin Laden. OK, if your boy is going to take full credit for killing Bin Laden, then he has NO CHOICE but to also take credit for the loss of our embassy personnel in Libya. Or as he likes to refer to them - those little speed bumps on the road to re-election.

If your going to personally blame Obama for the attacks on our consulate in Libya and the death of our ambassador........

Then you'd better be personally blaming the Bush Admin. for all the American deaths during/after the 9/11 attack.

    What's good for the goose.

Hey Bri - don't be so disingenuous. You know the phrase you're referring to was not used to describe the killings. It was used to describe the rough road to democracy these countries must take.

Surely you're smarter than your comment indicates?

.....and Romney's speech was not meant to defame the 47% that obama claims he did - so whats your point! It's ok for obama to do it but not for Romney - sort of a double standard, don't you think!

izzyserious - Fact Check; Media Matters; Huffington Post. As they all point out, one of the most disengenuous or just plain ignorant comments is that Barack Obama's father had a strong influence on him. His father left he and his mother when Barack was 2 and came back into his life BRIEFLY at 10 years old.

Interestingly, the more people see it, the more intelligent ones are turned off by it and see it as an obvious propaganda piece for the right.

First off, douche bag is two words. Guess you have that right to use it on everyone who doesn't want to vote the way you want us to vote. But, there is a thing call the Constitution that allows us to do just that, just as it allows you to express your views.

However, to make people vote how you want is a sign of being a Stalinist, which means you support socialism to force everyone to vote the same.

Has anyone stopped to consider that just maybe, the rest of the world doesn't need U.S. leadership? Surely we can help those that ask openly for our aid, but other than that, I don't think we need to be interfering in the business of other countries.

If any of Romney's supporters also say we shouldn't be the world's police, they are being hypocrites. Romney provides no details (no surprise there), but claims he'd be a better leader on foreign policy.

This coming from the same man that insulted 4 countries in a single trip abroad. He may want to look at foreign polls on his leadership and likeability, no one wants him as president.

Romney says, "I think this is a time for America to exert leadership and this is not something that we are doing in the Middle East ..."..

...Oh, I think we've exerted enough leadership in the Middle East, thank you very much.

Like how we propped up the Shah of Iran and sold him weapons to use in oppressing his Iranian subjects. How'd that turn out for us?

Oh yeah, we were also selling weapons to Iraq, because after we got kicked out of Iran, we starting funding the Iraqi's in their 1980's war against Iran. How that turn out? Well I can tell you one person who isn't too happy with his American ties... That'd be Saddam himself as he dangled at the end of the rope. Wonder if Donald Rumsfeld still has the picture of him shaking hands with Saddam hanging from a wall in his home office?

Saudi Arabia loves us. We sell them all their really good weapons. Of course, I'd suspect the Saudi women aren't too fond of us since we haven't lifted a finger to raise their equality in that society. (You know a Saudi woman can do some serious prison time if she's caught driving?).

Khaddafi wasn't too fond of us, and then he apologized to us, started selling us oil, and everything seemed okay... Until his people got pissed off, and we started shipping his opponents weapon. He was later shot in the ass and bludgeoned to death in a water spillway beneath a road. Well, he shouldn't have been such a douche...

Yeah... Our leadership in the Middle East has been stellar. So Glad Mitt, who thinks Russia is our primary adversary, is here to remind us.

Also glad to know that Mitt "Going to get tough" with those Iranians, and teach the Palestinians to respect the Israelis. Sounds like an Awesome Plan!

How about this Junior...? How about we stay the F#$@ home this time around, eh? I'm tired of us propping up evil despotic regimes because they serve our purposes (for the time being) and then turning and betraying the regime because they currently are pissing us off.

It's a crappy game. The best way to play is to not play at all.

Finding any fault he can by taking it out of context isn't going to win Mitt the televised Presidential Debates against Barack Obama. Any teenager can find faults. But it takes a leader with orator's skills and a fact-checked knowledge base to plausibly and effectively convince skeptics as to why something works or doesn't work. And wasn't it a right-winger that recently said, "We're not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers."

In contrast, recall that our President used to teach as a Professor of Constitutional Law.

And unlike Reagan, Romney is not a very good actor in front of a crowd. His behavior in front of an audience seems animated, even forced. He contradicts himself, based on whom he believes he's talking to. Compare this to Barack, of whom he seems comfortable, consistent and thoughtful when he's talking in front of crowds, audiences that he's able to emote desired reactions out from them.

My money's on Law Professor and Commander-in-Chief Obama winning the televised debates against ex-Governor Romney of Bain Capital.

          AMAZING!

The new spin for, "OOOPS, we fu**ed up" is, "a bump in the road".

A cover-up of epic proportions after the administration was warned that there was going to be violence. Ambassador Stevens even stated he felt he was in danger due to the growing terrorism, security was told not to use live ammunition, neglecting the significance of the 9/11 anniversary and a lack of adequate man power to control the escalating violence.

Then the flip-flopping about this being caused by some insignificant video, claiming the assault on the Libyan consulate wasn't preplanned even as the attackers had RPG's and other weapons and as this was all unraveling Obama decides to take a day trip to Las Vegas for a fund-raiser.

I wonder if the family of Ambassador Stevens and the other diplomats consider this just a "bump in the road"?

But then again Barrack Hussein and his administration don't care if Americans are killed just like they dismissed Border Agent Brian terry's death and never even called his parents.

Barrack Hussein is a total failure. Our domestic, economic and foreign policies are a shambles.

But hey, at least, according to Barrack, the private sector is doing well.

          ANYONE SEEN "2016".

Eye opening. As in - wow, truth. Why cant we get truth from the American media???

To the doubters out there: Most of the info comes right out of Obama's own book. The rest was careful research, and the maker of the movie stopped short of saying anything unprovable and outlandish.

You people are guppies - you'll swallow anything!

Let's look at a few high points (as in, the maker of this film must have been high):

The assertion that Obama's presidency is an expression of his father's political beliefs, which D'Souza first made in 2010 in his book "The Roots of Obama's Rage," is almost entirely subjective and a logical stretch at best. ... it's difficult to see how Obama's political leanings could have been so directly shaped by his father, as D'Souza claims. The elder Obama left his wife and young son, the future president, when Obama was 2 and visited his son only once, when Obama was 10.

From there, the evidence D'Souza uses to support his assertion starts to grow thin.

After living in Indonesia for several years, D'Souza said, Dunham sent the younger Obama to live with his grandparents in Hawaii so he would not be influenced by her second husband, Lolo Soetoro, an Indonesian who worked for American oil companies and fought communists as a member of the Indonesian army. Obama has said his mother had sent him back to Hawaii so he would be educated in the United States.

In Hawaii, D'Souza asserts with no evidence that Obama sympathized with native Hawaiians who felt they had been marginalized by the American government when Hawaii was becoming a state. D'Souza also asserts – again with no evidence – that Obama had been coached to hold those views at Punahou, the prestigious prep school he attended.

D'Souza seems to suggest that if a onetime friend of Obama's late father holds those opinions, so, too, must the president himself. [Hmmm, the same father who left him at 2 and didn't visit but once when he was 10? How much more tenuous can you get?]

          — D'Souza rightly argues that the national debt has risen to $16 trillion under Obama. But he never mentions the explosion of debt that occurred under Obama's predecessor, Republican George W. Bush, nor the 2008 global financial crisis that provoked a shock to the U.S. economy.

          — D'Souza says Obama is "weirdly sympathetic to Muslim jihadists" in Afghanistan and Pakistan. He does not mention that Obama ordered the raid that killed Osama bin Laden and the drone strikes that have killed dozens of other terrorists in the region.

_D'Souza wrongly claims that Obama wants to return control of the Falkland Islands from Britain to Argentina. The U.S. refused in April to endorse a final declaration on Argentina's claim to the islands at the Summit of the Americas, provoking criticism from other Latin American nations.

_D'Souza says Obama has "done nothing" to impede Iran's nuclear ambitions, despite the severe trade and economic sanctions his administration has imposed on that country to halt its suspected nuclear program. Obama opposes a near-term military strike on Iran, either by the U.S. or Israel, although he says the U.S. will never tolerate a nuclear-armed Iran.

          — D'Souza says Obama removed a bust of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill from the Oval Office because Churchill represented British colonialism. White House curator William Allman said the bust, which had been on loan, was already scheduled to be returned before Obama took office. Another bust of Churchill is on display in the president's private residence, the White House says.

In short, a Republican propaganda film - long on speculation and innuendo, very short on truth and facts. Gee, a lot like everything else Republicans have been spouting this election!

Pres. Obama honored the recently killed Ambassador Stevens on numerous occasions as heroic, wise, beloved, etc..

It has been a long road for us in the Middle East. We have lost many brave soldiers in Afghanistan in a 10 years War and we have lost 4000 soldiers in the Iraq War that was ended last year after 8 long years. We lost 4 more brave men in Libya recently and there have been protests and riots elsewhere in the Middle East over that provocative anti-Muslim film. But we are making progress on this long road to peace. There will always be a few bumps on the road to peace.

That you choose to twist this metaphor about bumps in the road to attack Obama says more about your bias than it says anything about Pres. Obama.

I am appalled at how low you will sink to express your disdain for our President.

Hatred clouds the mind and stains the soul.

Rradiko, Obama was never a professor, just a lecturer. In the ten or so years he never published a scholarly article. Neither did he do so when he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review. On Letterman's show, he didn't know what the national debt was and he thought that we didn't need to worry about the deficits he has run in the short term. I guess his plan is to worry about them when the national debt is $25 trillion (instead of $16 trillion) and blame it on Bush. The guy is an empty suit, in way over his head, Exhibit A for why affirmative action is a really, really bad idea.

John: Stay the course? What course? Even HIGHER unemployment? Even HIGHER debt? Even LONGER stagnant economy? Even MORE people on Food Stamps? Even MORE people on Welfare? Even LOWER labor participation rate?

You see Obama doesn't HAVE a course. Obama doesn't even HAVE a plan. Obama doesn't even HAVE a budget.

By any measurement this president has been a failure. Amazes me how liberals can look at the last four years and do anything else but throw their hands up and admit the last four years was a FAILURE by any reasonable and logical review.

Remember, Romney said he would not spend the money going after Bin Laden.

Go on with the rest of of the quote, don't just stop at the part that supports your point of view....

Romney spoke, quote: "bin Laden would be replaced and that killing him would not mean the end of al Qaeda. During a 2007 debate, Romney made his view on bin Laden crystal clear: "We'll move everything to get him. But I don't want to buy into the Democratic pitch that this is all about one person. Because after we get him, there's going to be another and another.… It's more than Osama bin Laden. But he is going to pay, and he will die."

.......and Romney was right! Obama didn't do anything because the actions were already in place before he took office, he just happened to be sitting in the chair when it happened - BUT he took all the credit, just the same! Just like when he accepted the Nobel Peace Prize and had done NOTHING to earn it - but he accepted the credit, any way. Obama has no integrity or honor - he's just an opportunist taking credit for something he did not do! And his dingle-berries worship him - worshipping lies....how pathetic!

            * What really happened in Libya at our consulate?

It was attacked, what specifically would you like to know?

            * What did the State Department know in advance of the attacks?

            Probably classified.

            * What did the President know in advance of the attacks?

Since what the President knew before the attacks was no doubt provided via a security brief...we'll probably never know? Why do you ask? Do you suppose the man who got bin Laden would do less to protect this country than the man who ignored the 911 warnings?

            * Why weren't our Embassies better protected on 9/11?

What would you like for Embassy security...a battalion? ...a division? It's a freaking Embassy! If the locals want to burn it...they will. Nothing we can do short of an air strike to prevent that...anywhere!

            * Was Ambassador Rice instructed to lie on national TV by the Administration?

Were you instructed by FOX news to ask that question?

            * Would the President's reported poor attendance at his national security briefings have prevented this?

He receives and reads his security briefing each day. Do you get more out of PowerPoint than reading?

How will anything Romney proposes make things better? Be specific. How can right wingers look at Bush's 8 years and want a repeat under Romney? How will cutting taxes 5 trillion, spending 260 billion more a year on defense and funding a new massive space program lower our debt? Be specific. The problem with the right is all they have is bashing Obama because attempting to sell Romney is a guaranteed loss.

Dear Mr. President (and all you Obama drone supporters out there):

This Iran threat has not happened overnight.... Over the last decade prior administrations have kept Iran in check through sanctions and open threat of military intervention if necessary... Iran no longer feels the need to hide its agenda.... Why? Because, as President, you have displayed a weak administration that apologizes for America instead of taking a strong military stance... During your first term as President the Iranian crisis has been growing steadily; yet, you do nothing... Libya, Afghanistan, Palestine, Egypt, Iran, etc, etc, etc.., have stepped up their intent to attack Israel and their allies (predominately America).. And you give them billions in foreign aid, while our domestic economy crumbles... You downsize and degrade our military. You bow to leaders of other countries and you show no support toward Israel, except when you swing through Florida for those old folks Jewish votes.... Our Ambassador is killed and our consulate attacked and you apologize for America...

Mr. President, you ask for another fours years... My question to you... What makes any voter think the next four years will be any different than the last four years... I, for one, don't need a out of control national debt, that will rise to 22+ Trillion, under your projected budget, by 2022. I, for one, don't need a president who believes the longest consistent history of national unemployment levels since WWII, is just fine and the economy will turn around soon or later... I, for one, do not want a President who had Carte Blanche to push through his legislative agendas during the first 2 1/2 years of his presidency and this country is no better off. I, for one, do not want more government control over my life and my health.. I am an adult and can make my own decisions and face my own consequences for bad one.. I for one do not want to become a creature of entitlements, living off government handouts as your policies project. I, for one, cannot respect a President who openly states his embarrassment for the nation he is suppose to be representing.. Gas prices are rising again, jobs are still far and few between, home foreclosures are not slowing down, our economy is declining and you believe you have done a good job...

Mr. President, in your campaign... You ask this nation to move "Forward". However, I must ask you, how can we move forward when your policies in place create further economic and personal freedom decline?

Finally, Mr. President, I am a small business owner... , AND YES, MR. PRESIDENT, I DID BUILD MY BUSINESS.... I didn't receive any government loans or handouts.. I worked hard keeping my business afloat in good times and bad... As an employer, when an employee produces substandard or negative business impacting work... You replace them... Plain and simple. You get rid of the lazy or ineffective employees and bring in employees that will create teamwork, positive customer service and afford a business profitability...... Mr. President, it is important for an employee to follow company policy and guidelines... Your guideline and policy, Mr. President, was the Oath of Office you took in 2009, promising to uphold and sustain the Constitution.. Part of the Constitution is Immigration... If you have a problem with company policy, you remit revisions, suggest amendments and repeals.... You don't ignore and disregard policy in place, create your own policies and sue states that are forced to take matters into their own hands, due to your lack of federal support!.. What kind of business would this nation be if every individual made their own personal laws and guidelines... Two words, "Utter Chaos"...

So, Mr. President, as an American Voter, I am your employer. I have listened to your unending excuses; afforded you plenty of Congressional opportunities to put promises into actions; have warned you that your policies are negatively impacting this nation through nationwide opinion polls over the last four years; watched you rewrite and ignore policies and laws in place; and have given you ample time to fix your mistakes.... As an employer, I don't have a problem with employees who make mistakes.. I have a problem with employees who won't own up to their own mistakes and learn from them....

I am sorry, Sir, but it is time to release you from your position of employment and bring in a better qualified candidate who understands the economy and how to actually fix things... No, No, No.. begging and making more empty promises won't help.. However, because I am a fair and equatable employer; I won't actually terminate your services until the November elections; and, will offer you a free ride home to Chicago in January... Please see the Human Resource Department for your severance package and residual benefits available...

Oh yes, one final reminder, please tell your wife to turn in her credit cards... As a taxpayer and your employer, this business, better known as the United States of America, will no longer be held responsible for spent millions on her and her friends shopping sprees, A List Hotels, European Runway Clothing Shows, etc..... Your wife's spending habits have blown your allocated budget out the window....

If you choose to leave quietly, we will furnish a neutral recommendation for future employment endeavors... Have a nice day!

Movies like 2016 are for the uninformed and those who love them some gossip.

Sorry to hear that you fall in that group.

Max, you have a little trouble with feedback too, don't you?

Oh, I put up one now and then, but it's spur of the moment.

Ryan makes me sick to my stomach. I get the feeling he's in love with himself.

Ryan lives in a bizarre world. He believes that he is more religious than God, and worships an atheist, Ayn Rand. Totally misses the point of Christian religion, which is what you do for others is more important than the riches you gather on earth.

I keep wanting to sit down and say. "So, Paul, have you seen a reputable mental health professional?"

                  Newday said,

"But if you READ MY COMMENT: I posed a question to the candidate. I did NOT state his position. There's that messy I.Q thing with the right wingers. AGAIN!"

Ok, if you didn't state his position then what did you base the question on??? There had to be something he said or speech he gave which stated his position on starting a war with anyone, but all I got was a comment on "a messy IQ thing". So you don't have a source for the basis of your question, just throwing sh-t against the wall to see what sticks... hmmm

In 1982 the Israel's did a surgical strike on Iraq's nuclear site and that did not start a war... having said that, I believe any strike on Iran in 2007 and now would create different responses from the Iranians. The world is a different place then it was five years ago and I can't speak for the Romney campaign but maybe Romney "evolved" on his position since then.

                  Patriotic American,

That's interesting you would say that. I hadn't wanted to voice my real thoughts aloud, but the other day I had this odd sensation that Ryan would have made a good Nazi. There's just something about him that creeps me out.

Wow, Max, did it really take you that long to come up with a response?

See, I don't take responsibility for how YOU interpret what I write. There are plenty of wise people on this board who would ask the same question of Romney. Plus, I TOLD you what I based it on. Not my problem if you want to discount it to make it easier to inhabit the rather insane world of the right wing.

I know it is difficult to have to try to defend a candidate as feckless as Mitty. However, you do need to calm down. All this rage is not good for you.

The most poisonous aspect of this race is the Democratic Party political tactic of racial slander. ... To the Democrats and the mainstream media, this is war. They now have the political power to advance their leftist ideology and they will stop at nothing to keep it. The progressives aren't merely playing the race card. They are deploying the entire deck in a scorched-earth policy. If you oppose the Democrats, then you are a racist. ... Americans will pay the price for the racial hatred being incited by the Democrats and their media shills. ... In playing the race card, the Democrats show that they have no moral scruples whatsoever. To the progressive, the end always justifies the means. It is a dishonor and a sin to bear false witness against your neighbor. But this is the political party that booed God out of the DNC party platform three times before the chair ignored the majority and allowed the Almighty to return. And this was done cynically to avert political fallout and a possible loss of votes in November. Even God is a political calculation for Democrats.

The last thing this country needs is another big-mouthed cowboy who is loose with the facts and fast on the trigger. We can't afford or stomach the "kill 'em all, let god sort 'em out" foreign policy from the neocons. No thanks, Republicans. We'll be paying (in more than money) for your wars long enough as it is, and unfortunately we'll have to hear you cry about it the whole time, like a 3-year-old who has been told to clean up his mess. Put your big boy pants on and help pay your bills instead of getting worked up and demanding to run off to the middle east to add more to the national credit card.

Eye opening. As in - wow, truth. Why cant we get truth from the American media???

The "truth" as you see it is the authors theory that Obama's view of the world was shaped by a father that left him when he was 2 years old and only visited him once before his death. The mainstream media doesn't report on theories but you might catch it on Fox. I'd think Obama's view of the world would be shaped more from his mother, a woman born in Kansas I believe rather than a father he met once during a time he could remember.

Yea the game plan is 1st to get the "Stinking Arab" out of the WH. Then start repealing the huge tax increase called obamacare, firing all the czars, increase domestic energy policies (huge job gain), getting the House & Senate back together again working only on what America needs are. No foreign policy till we get our own budget squared away. help the states get rid of the seiu thugs and cons. This is only the 1st day.

Beats the alternative. CNN (that liberal network) released portions of recently murdered ambassador Chris Stevens' diary detailing government failings with regard to security (and the government's negative response as it is not part of the official narrative). Maybe Romney will hammer that home during the debates.

There is no doubt that Romney is a great flip-flopping story teller. Why is he losing voters? Listen to this website below:

So who is Mitt Romney?/ "When Mitt Romney Came to Town" with creative destruction -The name of the game (Full Version - 28 mins - Good Audio) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ad_E8VXm4m0&feature=player_embedded

                    Just Follow the MONEY TRAIL:

"So he leverages the faltering business in order to get loans that he uses to buy stock in Bain Capital, effectively sucking the lifeblood from the acquisition. Then he lets the leveraged business go bankrupt. Then what? The FDIC gives an insurance payout to the banks that loaned Bain the money? Well, where does the FDIC get the money to insure banks? You guessed it--the American people. If this propaganda is true, Mitt is guilty of massive fraud."

Also be sure to see Romney's interview clip from this morning, where he says if you question Wall Street fairness, you're just envious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fdj_7P2Do5M

The loans were to the company not Bain. First, Bain gains controlling interest in the company, so Bain can basically make all of the executive decisions. Then, it gets the company to borrow money under the guise of helping it out of its immediate cash flow issues so "it (the victim company) can GROW its way out of trouble." Once in control and the company has borrowed all that money, Bain collects huge fees for its services and piles that money away, now completely separate from the company. At the same time, Bain gets the victim company to buy back any stock Bain may have had to purchase to get control, which then severs Bain's relationship just before the victim company falls into default on the loans. Remember that Romney was the CEO until 2002 (according to an employee in S.E.C.) and not until 1999 as Romney tells the story. A liar once again, which Romney considers real transparency. So just ask yourself, what is he hiding and why has he just shown 1 full tax report and 1summary report when all the past candidates including Obama have shown 10 to 20 reports? Romney even required 10 tax reports from Ryan, but considers himself above all others with requiring 2 tax reports. What's he hiding folks?

Finally, based on the specific circumstances, the FDIC might have to cover some of the losses. But this depends on the loan sources, and whether the losses would or do cause the bank(s) to fail.

This is just another excellent reason for not supporting Romney. Because according to his own words caught on tape: The everyday working class, whom Romney says 47%, do not pay taxes, are lazy, dependent on Govt. welfare, and don't know how to stand on their own two feet to take care of themselves!!!!! Be sure to remember that when it's time for an election. Vote straight Dem.!!!!!

Also, don't forget the Republican's Voters Suppression happening in many states to prevent the minorities and poor from voting, which is usually for the Democrats. And so far, the Federal Courts are knocking down the unconstitutional Voter Suppression Laws. That in itself should tell you something about the Republican Party.

                    Vote Obama/Biden 2012.

With all the problems we are having with the nation's economy, the lack of jobs, dealing with the fallout from teenage births, our huge and growing national debt...who really give's a rat's ass about Mr. Romney's tax returns. He has earned hundreds of millions and paid tens of millions in state and federal taxes and also given tens of millions away to charities. He has been a huge success at anything and everything he's ever done.

And you're hung up on his tax returns. A lot of help they will be.

Why should Obama meet with a warmonger who wants to see Romney elected, and who wants to start a war with Iran and use US equipment and personnel to fight that war?

What's Obama's plan? It sure was absent from the Convention.

By plan I mean something besides 23 million under or unemployed and 6 trillion debt added.

I don't recall anything at the republican convention that would explain how cutting taxes 5 trillion or increasing military spending 260 billion a year would bring down our debt or solve our unemployment problem. It's good those on the right always throw in underemployed to boost the numbers when talking about a democratic president but stick to actual unemployment when talking about republicans. If Romney's elected expect those numbers for those working at or near minimum wage to increase. His biggest "success" he brags about is Staples a company with an $8.15 an hour starting wage with few benefits which is around what McDonald's and Wal Mart pays. Romney wants to bring in millions more high tech workers claiming a shortage even though unemployment is double in those sectors to what is was prior to Bush's meltdown. What he really wants is lower wages for one of the few high paying sectors left. Don't ever believe a corporate vulture whose goal has always been squeezing the most pennies at what ever the cost is for good paying jobs for the little people.

According to GOP revisionist history, the Middle East was a bastion of peace, tranquility and stability before 1-20-09. Unrest was unheard of in that part of the world. Therefore any unrest in the Middle East is 100% the fault of President Obama.I also hear that the sky is pink on Planet Kolob!

Just a couple points. First, as was stated earlier to One Question, 2016 has been totally debunked on it's supposed merits and was funding from far right wing groups which immediately makes it suspect. It has no credibility whatsoever. Pjam, what funding exactly did we send to Egypt for their revolt? My question then would be, exactly what should we have done, support the dictators in the countries of the middle east? That support for these past many years is part of the problem we have with the people, supporting tyrants against the people. That is great policy, support dictators and tyrants and then criticize the people when they overthrow them simply because we do not like the outcome.

Obama lead a response that removed a dictator responsible for such terrorists act such as Lockerbie and the La Belle Disco bombings and turned a state sponsor a terror into a nation in which the US has its highest approval ratings. 30,000 people marching in Benghazi and routing Islamist militias from their barracks is proof of that.

                    Eye opening.

Oh, it is eye-opening, all right!

In short, a typical Republican statement - long on speculation and innuendo, very short on truth and facts.

Again all Romney can do is bash Obama and offers nothing as to how to solve our problems. A 16 trillion debt. We'll cut taxes 5 trillion, raise military funding 260 billion a year and spend hundreds of billions a year to begin a new space race. Great plan. For the man who claimed his statement calling 47% of the population including military and retired seniors leeches because they didn't pay federal income taxes a poor choice of words he needs to do more than to accuse Obama of poor word choices for whatever he says.

When the President was speaking to Univision he said his biggest regret was not getting an immigration law, but on 60 Minutes he said his biggest regret was not changing the mood in Washington. Which one do you think is his biggest regret and really shouldn't it be that there are 23 million people either unemployed or underemployed and during his Presidency we have never been below 8% unemployment.

It's quite another thing for a person running for office to have failures related to his campaign, all of them being caused by HIMSELF.

Romney once again babbles on about Strong American leadership, no specific as to what he would do. What is it he thinks the president can do. These are independent countries, that the US has supported oppressive regimes over the last 100 years, basally since oil was discovered. All I can assume from Willard's statements is that he would be on a short lease jumping at Israel command, doing as they direct. War with Iran would be as certain as it was with w and Iraq. US policy should be first and foremost about what is best for US, not any other country. Counties don't have friends, they alliances which change with time.

Right, being forceful while also being thoughtful and cautious, so as not to make things worse, resulting in an even greater loss of life, makes Mr. Obama "clueless". God help us all if we end up with "I've got a clue" Romney versus a president skilled in diplomacy and tact.

"being forceful while also being thoughtful and cautious, so as not to make things worse"

Best excuse created by a liberal yet for calling a terrorist attack a "bump". Wouldn't want to offend the perpetrators by calling it what it really is.

                      P.S.

Referring to something as a "bump" is "forceful? and how is that "thoughtful" to the victims?... oh right thats not who he was concerned about is it?

Did you even listen to the interview or do you just repeat talking points?

“Well, I'd said even at the time that this is going to be a rocky path. The question presumes that somehow we could have stopped this wave of change. I think it was absolutely the right thing for us to do to align ourselves with democracy, universal rights-- a notion that-- people have- to be able to-- participate-- in-- their own governance. But I was pretty certain and continue to be pretty certain that there are going to be bumps in the road because-- you know, in a lot of these places-- the one organizing principle-- has been Islam. The one part of society that hasn't been controlled completely by the government. There are strains of extremism, and anti-Americanism, and anti-Western sentiment. And you know can be tapped into by demagogues. There will probably be some times where we bump up against some of these countries and have strong disagreements, but I do think that over the long term, we are more likely to get a Middle East and North Africa that is more peaceful, more prosperous and more aligned with our interests.”

President Obama states there will be strong disagreements but that the US must support the quest for democracy.

tnsevol, did you even read the article in it's entirety? Do you not understand the naitivity in the following statement, "-- you know, in a lot of these places-- the one organizing principle-- has been Islam. The one part of society that hasn't been controlled completely by the government." Now for the quiz, name me ONE nation that is dominated by islam that DOES NOT have some form of theocracy/oligarcy currently in place. This is not a trick question. Add to the FACT that Mr. Soreto did in fact attend a muslim wahhibism school in Indonesia in his past. Now tell me he honestly doesn't understand how these societies work from both the inside, and outside. Bumps in the road...pshaw.

I fail to understand how shariah law is even relevant to the quest for democracy. If you support radicals, you get more radicals. A very simple principle that Oblameo seems to be able to ignore while apologizing while facing to the east (the direction of Mecca for those of you who are geographically challenged).

First of all, Indonesia is as different from the ME as Catholic Poland is from Catholic Mexico.Second, Morocco,Algeria,Turkey,Indonesia,Malaysia,Brunei,Syria (at present) all are ruled by secular governments.

Third, the President moved to Indonesia when he was six and moved back to the US during the fifth grade. As to the elementary schools he attended, this talks about them:

"It came to my interest when I found out that Barry, his childhood nickname, also attended a local school twice in an elite Jakartaregion: SD Assisi and SD Besuki Menteng (SD or ‘Sekolah Dasar’ in Indonesian means elementary school). Even though rumors said that these two schools are a ‘base-camp’ for future Islamic fundamentalists, but in fact SD Assisi is a private Catholic while SD Besuki Menteng is a locally superior public school which accepts students from various religious backgrounds.

Hmmm, real hotbeds of Islam there. The problem with these right-wingers is they don't ever check the facts before posting lies.

Bush after his 1st invasion that killed 10's of thousands was hailing his great victory. A few diplomats killed and a few civil wars is nothing but a bump in the road in comparison. If Romney's elected after his invasion of Iran and another 200,000 dead he'll do the same as Bush and praise his great leadership. It won't even be a bump.

Good job "uncle bob", you named seven out of fifty, although I believe you're mistaken on nearly all of them. Morocco, 99% muslim - state religion, Algeria, 99% muslim - state religion, Turkey, 99% muslim - secular (you got one right...), Indonesia, 86.1% muslim - no state religion (got that one to!), Malaysia, 60.4% muslim - state religion, Brunei, 60.7% muslim - state religion, Syria, 90% muslim - no state religion (you actually got three correct!). I counted 32% of these fifty countries that actually have secular governments, so your math isn't too bad. And for the record, SD Besuki is indeed a nominal muslim school, so there goes another point you were trying to make.

So, in short, perhaps you should do some fact checking yourself before accusing someone of posting lies. If you want to hear some good lies, just tune into Carney. He tells at least one whopper per day...on a slow day.

There's a difference between healthy "disagreeing" and disagreeing to attempt to block, thwart, belittle, stymie, marginalize, discredit, and push a man towards failure at every turn so as to make YOUR political party the "obvious choice for a better America" in a future election. Really great citizen ship, not.

What I find laughable, is when Obama haters use tired old debunked rhetoric, or speculation on what they believe is going on in Obama's mind, to try and paint him negatively.

Your opinions are not facts. Your wishful thinking is just that. Wishful thinking.

Obama is far from perfect, but he is head and shoulders above any who were vying for the GOP spot. Romney is out of his league.

Why are many of you criticizing Obama for various things, only demonizing Obama for doing things ALL President's have done? It's a safe bet you didn't care before.

Only now that it's Obama in the WH, are certain things done by a POTUS suddenly "unAmerican" and/or "socialist/marxist/communist"

Your "argument"(or lack of) is really pathetic.

Maybe one day y'all might be ready to move up from the kiddie table, but it doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon.

Eric: If you truly read these comments on a daily basis you'd know those on the left regularly post facts about the difference between Obama and Bush and how closely the things Romney proposes are similar to what Bush did. When's the last time anyone on the right did anything other than bash Obama? I've been reading and posting here for months and don't remember a single post from anyone on the right explaining how Romney has anything planned to make things better. Can any republican out there who thinks Obama has failed explain how anything Romney plans will do better and not worse? People need to quit nitpicking on words and deal with realities.

You say Obama failed but fail to say how. How is taking over from the man whose policies are exactly like Romney's that was losing 760,000 jobs a month to a record of growing jobs at around 100K a month losing?

How is a stock market that was 7900 when he started that's now 13,600+ losing or record business profits? Or even home prices up for the sixth straight month when under Bush we had declining prices for 10 months.

The moderators will ask questions as to what he'll do and how he'll do it. I'm sure the thought frightens him as clearly bashing Obama is all he has.

We all know all obummer has to do is follow the teleprompter. Clintons policys set the stage for the housing collapse when he made banks lower their lending standards so more minoritys could get a house when they didn't make the cut. When the bubble burst it did all at once not deflate slowly overtime. When you inject money into the banking system the stock market likes it but it increases inflation. Thats why the stock market jumps up when this happens.

I guess that 23 million people without jobs is just a "bump in (recession) road." I guess that $800+ billion in failed stimulus bucks was just a "bump in the road" back to full employment. I guess that $1.2 trillion deficit is just a "bump in the road" back to fiscal health. I guess that adding $6 trillion to the Federal debt is just a "bump in the road" to national bankruptcy. I guess you get the idea about "bumps in the road."

I just wonder it Oblameo can tell the difference between a "bump" and a mountain. Oh, wait, no mountains in Chicago except the mountain of dead piling up every weekend.

The only "bump" Oblameo needs is a "bump" back to Chicago and his Democrat cronies. Or maybe he would prefer to be living with Nancy Pelosi in the first bankrupt state in the history of our almost bankrupt country.

                              Sources, please?

I guess that 23 million people without jobs

The Bureau of Labor Statistics, whose job it is to track that number, says 12.5 million here

$800+ billion in failed stimulus bucks was just a "bump in the road"

According to the CBO, the stimulus was not a failure here

adding $6 trillion to the Federal debt

Flawed math - Obama has added about $4T to the debt. Figures here

Bush's last budget (ended Oct, 2009) left the US with $11.9T. Current debt is $16T. Simple math...

                              Lies! All lies!

FAIL - he was speaking about the 47% of the voters that would vote for Obama regardless... nice try on that spin but FAIL

If Obama cared at all he would have cancelled is Vegas fundraiser and addressed the problem immediately. That, is another FAIL

                              sirie-

You are the one trying to put a desperate spin on Romney's 47% comments.

He CLEARLY states he is talking about those who don't pay federal income taxes, and alleges that those same 47% are those who will vote for President Obama.

Romney then CLEARLY states it is not his job to worry about those 47%, and that they will never accept personal responsibility or take care of their lives.

How can you defend a presidential candidate who says it is not his job to worry about almost half of Americans?

So now we know the real plan of Team romney for the remaining 2 months....listen to every single word of the President and figure out how they can possibly use it to distort the true message. If they need to take 1 sentence, that will do, or 3 words, that will do. there is no need for Romney to talk about his own plans or be specific at all...lets just find a word or 2 or 3 of the President's and there you go...that is Team RR plan.

The talk radio jocks have been doing it since McCain issued his concession speech. It's worked well for them, why shouldn't Romney give it a go?

Sherry - So words of the current U.S. president are less important than recorded statements from a governer at a private fund raiser years ago?

Oh my God!! Did I really read pjamo9's post correctly!! This is so sad, Mutt's comments were in May 2012, NOT years ago. Actually the pubics response was to dig up a 14 YEAR old video of President Obama on re-distribution, that ends with him saying "so everyone gets a shot." I guess this explains it all, there really is no intelligent life in the GOP.

The only thing this shows is that Obama has a conscience and admits when his campaign gets carried away. Why doesn't Romney admit it when even Fox news calls Ryans speech at the convention a record for the most lies and distortions at any convention ever? Or even the anti Obama ads that shock the fact checkers with the blatant lies.

This is all crap and hopefully, Romney knows it is. No one has been able to control this region since the British were driven out. In order to successfully occupy another country you must first defeat their military and then take up all their weapons (or kill them all off). They have no real military but civilian fighters with allies that will continue to supply them with necessary equipment. It is just like the argument over jobs and entitlement programs. The real problem with the economy is not only have we not created enough jobs but just as importantly real wages have not risen in 30 years. Since both parties have been in power during that time you have to assume they don't have the slightest idea what to do about it. Therefore, they argue about the length of their opponent's fingernails. What they want more than anything else is to be in power, not because it benefits the public but because it benefits them.

He claims we need to able to show "leadership." This coming from a man, who while being secretly taped, essentially said "Fvck the middle east." He believes that tensions will always be high there, so why bother with diplomacy? Nope, straight to war we go.

Exactly. I have never seen Obama or Hillary Clinton give up on the ME. Mitt the Twitt doesn't have to worry about his boys getting killed in a war. Even if they began drafting Americans, his kids would just get religious deferments like Mitt did, and skip off to France until it blew over.

Hmmm...more Limbaugh Logic. Half the right is arguing that the Benghazi attacks were an extension of the video-take protests, thus "proving" that ALL Muslims are jihadists, while the other half is arguing that they were a planned attack by terrorists, unrelated to the videotape.

The evidence seems to indicate both. The Consulate appears to have prepared for protests, but was hit by a planned terrorist attack, movingh against "a target of opportunity." We are at war with Al Qaeda. All of the battles in a war are seldom won. Benghazi was a loss. And, Obama might have been better off to have phrased it in those terms and reminded people we are winning more than losing.

We lost battles in WW II, but we won the war. Romney walks a fine line in criticizing the Commander in Chief on war issues, in time of war.

spin, baby, spin. There were warnings days ahead. But the worst thing is that after the attack and people were killed were the lies to cover the administrations collective ass, from Obama down, including Hillary, Susan Rice and Jay Carney. You can't spin a lie. Limbaugh, my dyin' ass....I sure don't listen to him. You give him more credence than I ever would.

That's a minority opinion. Guerilla warfare (and terrorism) depend heavily on seizing a very brief opportunity wherein they may have superiority of force...i.e. hit and run. That means their "victories" depend on being prepared to take "targets of opportunity" based on intelligence.

With or without the protests, Benghazi appears to have been such an attack. Despite large numbers of protests, demonstrations, and even Embassy sackings throughout Muslim countries, due to the video, no other Embassy or Consulate staff were injured...only demonstrators.

SeekingSanity: 9/11 terrorists attacks on the US were ALL Bill Clinton's fault. Clinton was way to busy in the oval office doing other things to be concerned about it. These attacks had been in the planning stages for 3+ years. Clinton pulled back on CIA because he said the cold war was over and we didn't need to be worried about it any more. Boy was he wrong.

In Mitt-world Obama should have said this:

Obama: Well, I'd said even at the time that this is going to be choc' full of catastrophe. The question presumes that somehow we could have stopped this horrible series of events. I think it was absolutely the right thing for us to do to align ourselves with terrorists, universal oppression, a notion that people have to be able to participate in terrorist activities. But I was pretty certain and continue to be pretty certain that there are going to be huge, jaw-droppingly horrible setbacks because, you know, in a lot of these places, the one organizing principle has been Islam (terrorism). The one part of society that hasn't been controlled completely by the (the Obama) government. There are strains of extremism, and anti-Americanism, and anti-Western sentiment. And, you know, can be tapped into by demagogues. There will probably be some times where I get pushed around by these countries and have strong disagreements, but I do think that over the long term we are more likely to get a Middle East and North Africa that is more hateful, more preposterous and more opposed to our interests.

Well, one can argue about exactly when that blessing ended but there is no debating the fact that we have NOT had an ounce of that leadership since the 2000 election. Two presidencies and two presidents that have failed their nation and their allies so completely and forcefully that world history has no comparison except for the time of the fall of the Roman Empire.

Bush and Obama will go down as being worthless to those who depended upon them while wholly reliable to our enemies.

You might not know it "seeking", but living with a debilitating disease such as m.s. can be difficult in and of itself. But I'm quite sure you know that, as that you seem to know just about every-damn-thing there is to know about, well, everything. And don't forget about Michelle O's statement about "old glory". Michelle Obama, "All this for a g--damned flag!?!?" Her words, not mine. Just keep on believing all the lies that the lying liers spout from their collective lying holes, aka the democratic party!

NPCDan - I have a friend who has MS and is not nearly as well off as Anne. She NEVER complains about how hard things are - and she works a 40 hour week. So get over little Annie's rants.

Michelle Obama's comment was about the uproar over President Obama not wearing a flag pin during his campaigning. She never said G*d damned flag. She said I can believe they're making such an uproar over a flag pin. If you're going to lie - it shouldn't be so easily checked now, should it?

Just keep buying the lies the radical right spews. It makes you look even dumber than you obviously are.

Seeking: Please keep in mind that MS, like many other autoimmune diseases, can be anywhere from mild to severe and can flare suddenly before calming down. Some patients can work 40 hrs a week while taking medications; others are bedridden or unable to maintain any regular job hours.

Your comment that Dan should "get over little Annie's rants" shows that YOU'RE uniformed about these types of diseases. If someone with MS says that they're having a hard day or week, I believe them.

They are just bumps in the road. The only people trying to make a simple comment into some dire foot in mouth scenario are right wingers who already know who they'll vote for. No one else cares. A responsible president when encountering such a bump quickly recovers and attempts to steer us on the proper path. A republican calls in the 6th fleet and begins bombing someone. I'll take the bump.

If George Romney had been an auto worker rather than an auto mogul, Willard Romney wouldn't have been elected shop steward. This man is an embarrassment to what used to be a respectable Republican party. He has no morals despite the support of those poor souls he recruited to say what a great friend he was when they were in need.

Romney once again proves what an empty suit he is. Instead of talking about his vision for America he's going for deflection. He has nothing but vague and unpopular policies, a fiscal plan that defies mathmatics, and shrill surrogates Bay was beside herself this weekend on MTP). So he's going to spend his time pouncing on every word the President says, and taking statements out of context.

                                        Bump in the Head

                                        From the article above:

The Romney campaign this afternoon offered a series of interviews with major U.S. TV networks, in which Romney hammered Obama for referring to a series of flare-ups in the Middle East as "bumps in the road."

(However, a series of NBC/WSJ/Marist polls in the battleground states of Colorado, Iowa and Wisconsin show Obama enjoying a double-digit lead over Romney when it comes to who would better handle foreign policy.)

"That assertion is both desperate and offensive," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said.

Press Secretary Jay Carney rightfully stated it correctly; Quite a pitiful display on the Governor’s part.

Governor Romney’s campaign is so desperate all they have now is a battle of semantics.

President Obama’s leadership is leaps and bounds above the woeful president wannabe.

As usual, the Governor has nothing, and on November 6th, it will be proven.

                                        Salud.

                                        One answer:

The movie 2016 is pure propoganda and poorly done propoganda at that.

The film was booed in a local theater and was soon replaced by a children's movie.

..and you thought Dallas, TX was a Republican stronghold.

Just advance it like Obama did with Bush's policies. They both stand for more war. Obama is just laying low to boost his reelection chances; he's already stated that but you won't find that info on the mainstream media.

The republican foreign policy of 'We are going to bomb you' is not really foreign policy at all. Obama tries peace and diplomacy first, cruise missiles and Navy Seals next and war last. Listen to all the republicans - its all 'we need to invade or bomb' that is the first thing they want to try - just to see if it works. If Obama had been president on 2001, we would probably have gotten Bin Laden by 2002 and never invaded either Iraq or Afghanistan. We would not have spent a couple trillion dollars on wars and had several thousand more living American Service men and women. Don't think for a second that any republican has a better foreign policy idea, because they don't.

That's exactly what happened on Clinton's watch. And then 9/11 attacks hit us like lightning. The dark storm clouds were all around and Clinton ignored the signs. These attacks had been in the planning stages for over 3 years under Clinton term. Blame Clinton for being too busy in the Oval Office doing other things.

Most Giant money is made on capital gains and that tax is only 15%. So, Big corporations are making record profits off cheap foreign labor. The capital gains tax should be doubled immediately. Both Romney and Ryan are committed to eliminating this tax. How will this bit of insanity do anything but further squeeze the middle class and increase the obscene wealth and income gap.

Romney says we need to create good paying jobs; But, we hear nothing about how.I will tell the man two two things that would transform our economy.

                                              1. Everyone knows that outsourcing is our biggest job destroyer. We need to force our public owned corporations to pay our minimum wages wherever they go. This would show a little regard for workers and bring back many jobs, fast.

                                              2. Outsourcing Is destroying the consumer base for small businesses. We need to control our corrupt financial system as well as the insane greed of the corporate structure. Our big banks with trillions in assets have been getting billions in 0% loans. They are driving up the price of oil and other essentials on our hurting people by manipulating the commodities market. This ungodly action should be made illegal immediately. Also no one should pay a bank 600k for a 200k house when the government backs the loan. all such loans should be made directly for a small interest. This would cut house notes by half or more and leave trillions in the hands of our people instead of thieving banks.

Without controls on the pigs, greed and evil will put us straight on into depression and chaos. You can't run a country for 1 or 2 percent without destroyingh it.

Obama is targeting leaders of a terrorist group that Pakistan refuses to deal with killing a few thousand but mostly terrorists and most Americans agree with dealing with those who state openly they intend on doing us harm. Comparing what limited actions from Obama with Bush is nonsense. Bush killed an estimated 200,000+ mostly civilians and over 5,000 Americans in his 2 wars. If a democrat had been president instead of Bush we wouldn't have had a war in Iraq and maybe not with Afganistan.
