LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Donald Trump says Mitt Romney's campaign needs to spend more money and flood the airwaves before Nov. 6th.
"They've got to be very, very smart," Trump said. "They need great commercials."
The remarks came during a press conference following Trump's address to students here at Liberty University, a private Evangelical Christian school established by the late pastor Jerry Falwell.
"He's been able to raise tremendous amounts of money," Trump said of Romney. "So hopefully that money's going to be spent really wisely on incredible media, incredible commercials," he added. "Because if they tell the facts, and if they tell the truth, they should win."
Pressed if he thought the Republican nominee is winning the race, Trump called polling "even" but said that he thinks Romney has time to recover.
"You know, a month and a half politically is eternity," he said.
Trump later told reporters that Romney's controversial "47%" remarks unearthed in a video last week tackled social issues that the United States will need to discuss in order for the economy to improve.
"A lot of people are saying that was a good thing, not a bad thing," Trump said of the remarks.
Last week, Trump said on the TODAY show that Romney shouldn't apologize over the controversy.
Trump's address to students this morning was a mix of old-fashioned career advice and the sort of sharp attacks on President Obama's politics and background that have become Trump's political brand. Trump even seemed to take a shot at Obama's religion.
As he explained why he was so happy to visit the Liberty campus, Trump, who has been married three times, described himself as a "Christian, and a very proud Christian."
Then he added, after a pause: "And a real Christian. People are going to say, 'Gee, I wonder what he meant by that?'"
To students, he gave this advice: "Don't let people take advantage -- get even!"
He said the same goes for international politics.
Earlier he said the White House should be demanding 50% of Libya's oil production.
"They go out and kill our ambassador and other Americans, and guess where China gets a lot of its oil -- from Libya," Trump said, referring to the September 11th attack on the American mission in Eastern Libya that killed U.S. ambassador Chris Stevens.
Introducing Trump, Liberty University's Chancellor Jerry Fallwell, JR. praised Trump's political style, calling him an influential leader.
"In 2011, after failed attempts by Sen. John McCain and Hillary Clinton, Mr. Trump single-handedly forced President Obama to release his birth certificate," Falwell said, spurring cheers.
School officials say 10,000 students attended Trump's speech at the University's Vines Center, and several thousand more watched a live feed in overflow rooms located in other campus buildings.
Officials say the speech was also made available over the web to the University's online student body, which numbers around 80,000.
Trump was joined on stage by a surprise guest: Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-MN), who sat among school officials during the address.
Bachmann visited students here in late September last year, during her failed presidential run. She is the mother of a Liberty student.

Trump's WWJD moment: "Don't let people take advantage -- get even!" All those bible thumpers at Liberty take their hypocrisy seriously!
Yes, let's listen to what Mr. 3 times in Bankruptcy has to say for advice. So Republican!
Obama/Biden 2012
Guess that's the Evangelical way!..........Nice......
So Mitt Romney had his tax auditor prepare a statement certifying that Mr. Romney from 1990 thru 2009 paid an average of 20% in taxes.
PROBLEM: This was during his time as CEO of Bain and his pay as CEO was subject to the Clinton era tax rates. Also from 1990 to 1997 the Capital Gains taxes were at 30% so Mitt paid somewhere between 30% and 39.6% tax rate for those 8 years. So how much did he pay during the other 12 years? Answer = something less than 14%. How many years did he pay much less - did he ever pay zero?
But the real reason for him to hide his returns is that for 2007 he may have taken the tax
amnesty deal that allowed him to claim funds in illegal tax shelters and pay taxes on them without prosecution.
Then in 2011 (just released) he didn't take advantage of all deductions allowed to keep his rate at 14%. If he took all of them his tax rate would be about 10%.
What Trump's advise should have been:
Explain how you're going to reduce the debt
Explain how you're going to bring our troops home
Explain how you're going help the economy
Etc, etc.
What Trump's advise was: "Make great commercials"
Both campaigns act like voters are too stupid to hold them to talking about the actual issues, and that we'll fall for all the glitter. They must think we actually care about their religion, birth certificates, tax returns, and all that other silly stuff...oh wait, never mind, apparently we do.
I'm sorry, but what the hell are they teaching at Liberty University that they have an immoral man like Trump speaking to students and giving them advice? Aren't they supposed to be above the fray? Untainted by the evil teachings of heathens?
If I were a parent paying tuition to that institution for my child's "Evangelical" education, I'd be pissed that my dollars were supporting a trice-divorced and trice-bankrupt Donald Trump!
This is just Trumps way of bailing on the Romney campaign.
After Mittens loses he will be able to say "if he would have done as I suggested, he would have won"
Hey Trump..where is all that "Big" information your detectives dug up about the president not being born in Hawaii?
who gives a f*ck what Trump says?
Isn't he due for a bankrupcy soon anyways?
sreeeeminglib
will Trump say to Romney "you'e fired" after Romney loses the election? Romney and Trump have one thing in common: they like to fire people...oh, I forgot about the second thing: they both like to bankrupt companies.
Typical RWNJ solution to everything - spend someone else's money. Since Romney is the true apprentice here,Trump would be better off telling Romney 'You're fired!'.
And we care what Trump says about any subject because...?
...?
...?
When did Trump ever claim to be evangelical? Loons.
Nathan's right....who cares.
Trump and Bachmann. How can you not laugh about that?
i would like to know why trump thinks he is listened to or in a position to offer advice....oh yeah,,,,he as well as romney thinks the american people are stupid enough to let money do all of the talking
So a birther comment gets applause from this crowd? What are they proud of, that they were proven wrong and yet they still hold onto their racist views? You'd figure that after almost four years, these idiots would be able to deal with the fact that the President is part African-American, and that he was born in this country. It's disturbing that these supposed Christians can be filled with such hate. Wait...nevermind...hate comes pretty naturally to them.
Romney spent too much time hiding behind others.
Romney had his children, wife, Ryan, Super PACs, etc all do his campaigning.
Reagan knew Presidents had to lead, but Romney prefers to let others do his fighting because he would rather play with his white board.
Trump advising Romney what to do. And I suppose that Romney will believe that Trump knows what he is talking about.
Kind of scares you about who Romney would delegate things to if by the remotest chance he became President.
Or if it doesn't, it should.
Romney has Trump penciled in as Secretary of State. God help us all!
CHRIST ON A CRACKER! We have found a Howard Sterne interviewee.
And a second one:"Romney has Trump penciled in as Secretary of State"
Tell us. What was it like talking to the "King of All Media"? I bet you thought you sounded smart.
Words of depth and political wisdom from one of the great minds...
"great" commercials...that's the ticket!...
Like this...

One of those, though I walk through the valley of evil moments of intellectual vapidity.
Bachman and Trump all cuddled up and cozy and talking to students about things they know NOTHING about. Romney should have distanced himself from this loser long ago, but unfortunately they play ball very well together. Both are arrogant bullies.
Jerry Falwell praising Trump ... that is one SICK endorsement and says volumes about how far so called "Christians" are going to bring this country down.
Obama/Biden 2012
Trump, the pimp of Sin City, is giving the Holy GOP his endorsement and advise...This is not your grandmothers GOP, maybe your grandfathers. What a bunch of hypocrites,Shameful.
The Romney campaign has been doing this the entire campaign: cherry-picking quotes completely out of context in a calculated effort to muddy the waters and confuse voters. "You didn't build that" and "I favor redistribution" are just two of the most egregious examples of trying to win over "low information" voters who are either too stupid, too lazy or too steeped in far-right ideology to bother looking up the actual quotes in their entirety and in context.
The funny thing is Romney doesn't have to be taken out of context to look like an ass. The now infamous "47 percent" video proved that. By the way, didn't he tell his fat-cat donors in that secret video that he believes Middle East peace in unachievable and he basically plans to just kick the can down the road? Now that's bold leadership!
Fortunately, the majority of the good people of Ohio and other critical swing states (who clearly aren't low-information voters) are not falling for any of these sleazy tactics that have the stench of desperation.
When Romney ultimately loses this election, there will be no one to blame but one of the most inept campaigns ever run in modern politics. If I was in the Republican hierarchy, I would already be laying the groundwork for "Jeb Bush-2016."
Really Ed?
Crawl out of your hole and pay attention. It's disgusting how uninformed you are. The "47%" is taken out of context.
Here, because I like to help:

Obama's greatest "skill" is lying.
Don't vote chump. Vote Romney.
Romney will be running for re-election in 2016 and win.
Rand Paul 2020
"Because if they tell the facts, and if they tell the truth, they should win."
Not only that, but they'd be a real novelty for the Romney campaign.....
"In 2011, after failed attempts by Sen. John McCain and Hillary Clinton, Mr. Trump single-handedly forced President Obama to release his birth certificate," Falwell said, spurring cheers."
Also in 2011, President Obama made mincemeat out of Mr. Trump over that at the White House Correspondents dinner, spurring cheers from pretty much the entire rest of the country:

"Then he added, after a pause: "And a real Christian. People are going to say, 'Gee, I wonder what he meant by that?'"
To students, he gave this advice: "Don't let people take advantage -- get even!"
Oh, yeah.....that's EXACTLY what Jesus would say.....
"Trampy Trump" is a "Coginitively Disabled" GOP/RNC "Zombie." This is a "Chump On The Stump" who is a "Bonehead Birther" that has NO idea of what a real Birth Certificate looks like. "Trampy Trump" has NO Clue that when the President was ripping him to shreds with humor. The President was ripping Bin Laden with the bullets of justice, and freedom. It is interesting how "Trampy Trump" loves the GOP/RNC "Clown Show" and he loves dancing around with mentally slow Elephants. "Trampy Trump" loves outsourcing jobs, he just enjoys supporting unfair tax policies, and he loves to act intolerant of others. "Trampy Trump" loves hanging out with the Koch Brothers, and GOP/RNC Governors like "Whacky Walker" of Wisconsin is his hero. Here is some advice for "Trampy Trump." Stay out of politics "Trampy!"
you married to his ex-wife or something? chill dude...
I live in Florida and it seems to me that Romney is already airing lots of commercials. It's just that people don't tend to believe what he says! And with good reason, I'm thinking.
Good advice! Spend more money on more commercials with more lies that the electorate will just mute, TIVO past, or ignore. At this point in the race the electorate is pretty much solidified and no amount of television ad spending is going to move them. The 5% or so of 'undecided' voters are actually "I'm not really going to vote" voters but please spend a half billion trying to sway them.
Trump's remarks about "getting even" are distinctly opposed to the gospel of Christ. Very odd considering how Trump was bragging about his "Christian" credentials.
He worship god, the god on his money .
For someone claiming to be a Christian he certainly doesn't show it. Christ would never have the attitude about getting even. Hypocrisy thy name is Republican.
Trump hasn't said anything of real significance. Wasn't he one of the first rejects in the GOP primaries? Good grief even loony toons like Michelle Bachmann and Rick Perry were in longer than the Donald. Yet Donald is giving advice to others?
Furthermore, define "great commercials". Does he mean the ones with the biggest lies or the ones with the half truths. Maybe he means the ones that are totally ridiculous and absurd. More more so Trump can make more money in his broadcasting interests.
Ah...the noted Bibical scholar, Donald Trump, expresses the essense of Chrisianity:
"Don't let people take advatage of you; get even."
The Trump interpretation of the former "turn the other cheek."
Trump is the fired up guy. Most of the people he fires are above him in intellect. As a child he blew up a pink balloon and his head popped.
I find it interesting that Trump refers to Romney's political advertisements as "Commercials" or commercial advertising. On the other hand, when political figures can be bought and sold, "commercials" may be the exact word to use.
Yeah campdog, I thought that also. Maybe Trump views the Presidency the same as he does one of his casinos.
Uh-oh. I may have accidentally exposed a hidden conspiracy by the Hair-Club doofus.
Please I need four more years to fix all the bumps in the road in the middle east. Please give me four more years to get the economy going. Please give me four more years to help to improve on being a real president. I know I promised these and more things which I did not do. But the good news is I improved my golf game. I beg you let me stay on, please, please, please have mercy. I approved this message.
Congrats on your golf game! Yeah...it took the last guy eight years to screw things up this bad, so I guess I'll give you eight years to try and fix it.
most policy change takes right around four years to start seeing effects...
So they tell the candidate; "If we can make this s referendum on the sitting President, you have a clear path to victory. But if it's a "choice" campaign, the odds swing the other way".
----------------------------------------------------------------
“The president will not be able to continue to mischaracterize my pathway,” said Romney, in answering a question about the importance of the upcoming debates. “I’ll continue to describe mine, he will describe his, and people will make a choice. That’s the great thing about democracy."
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/09/romney-says-obama-is-trying-to-fool-voters-with-inaccurate-attacks/
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They must want to collectively strangle the candidate. Does he even KNOW what a huge mistake he's made?
And today was another day spent "off-message".
Trump should join the circus. All he needs is a big red paste on nose.
And Bachmann by his side.
I just realized that we already saw that circus act. It was the Republican primary. All those clowns coming out of one tiny car.... It was hilarious.
On second thought, I appologize to circus clowns everywhere. They are an ancient and noble breed and do not deserve to have their image sullied by the presence of a Trump.
Thank you. That was thoughtful.
I too apologize to circus clowns for my disparaging comments.
Great commercials would need a great idea and Romney has none .
Trump is so like Rummey, they are both idiots!
Obama/Biden 2012 Our lives depend on it!!!
Shouldn't trump be looking for a new trophy wife to stroke his ego instead of bothering us with his advice to a loser.
How about the Dems run a commercial based on this quote from Ryan.
Paul Ryan on offshore accounts: They're the 'place you hide your money'
Hey, Trump, you pompous dope, why don't you reach into your pocket and give Willard some of your millions. Oh, I know why, you aren't prepared to give away money on a lost cause, besides, word has it that you're nearly broke. Face facts, pal, nobody cares what you think. You're utterly irrelevant. Go crawl under a rock, jerk.
Romney needs to THINK before he talks because I VOLUNTEERED TO GIVE MY LIFE FOR MY COUNTRY before I became disabled I was'nt looking for HANDOUTS!!!!!
