Subscribe to RSSLAS VEGAS, Nev. -- A plane carrying Ann Romney, wife of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, was forced to make an emergency landing in Denver Friday after smoke began to fill the plane midflight.
Campaign aides said the plane landed safely at Denver International Airport, and there were no reports of any injuries. An electrical fire was the suspected cause of the smoke.

Mrs. Romney was en route from Omaha, Neb., to Santa Monica, Calif., on a chartered Canadair Challenger 601 when the smoke forced an emergency landing. She spoke with Gov. Romney, who was campaigning in Las Vegas at the time, by phone shortly after landing.
An earlier version of this post referred to the plane Mrs. Romney was on as a regional jet. The Federal Aviation Administration advises it is not considered a regional jet.

I didn't see what FZ6man wrote this time, but if you read any of his other posts, you'd see he's far from being a liberal - in fact, he's proclaimed at least three times this week that Adolf Hitler was a better leader than President Obama, because at least Hitler "did some good for his country". Tasteless and classless seem to be his middle names.
I, on the other hand, am a liberal and proud of it, and will only say that this sounds like a very terrifying situation for everyone involved, and I don't see any need for any other political comments. We should all just be thankful that apparently everyone is safe.

The smoke was from all that smoke that her and her husband try to blow up everyones arse. This is what happens when you contain one of them for too long. But, even the most diehard conservatives have to see the irony in this incident considering a campaign going up in smoke. And since everyone is safe and sound this comment is meant only in the great American tradition of making light of potentially tragic situations avoided. Get a sense of humor people. It's a political campaign, in two years we se still be alive no matter who wins. But some of you Republicans may need to be sneaking across the border to Canada to get jobs if Romney wins.

So not only does Mrs. Romney's choice of plane offer some insight into her husband's security policy - bombadier - it also offers some insight his foreign and economic policy. Not only is he going to wage war on the globe, he's going to outsource the effort.

I flew Canada Air once and never again. I felt like a sardine in the plane and they sent my luggage to San Jose, Costa Rica instead of San Jose, California. Gee I have bags that have been where I have never been thanks to Canada Air.

He may have built the hangar but I doubt he had much with building the airport, hiring the air traffic controllers or the HSA airport screeners (OK, I know they are a pain in the @$$ but they are there to keep us safe) or the first responders that were available for the emergency landing.

The FAA needs its budget cut. When I first came to this are! I worked for a company under contract to the FAA. It was my first experience with a government agency. Many FAAers did nothing most of the day. Not all of them do work such as air traffic and safety.

Sorry for my ignorance, but are foreign aircraft under the purveyance of the FAA? Should be, if they fly here, but I just don't know. And shame on RMoney for not using an AMERICAN company. (Glad, of course, that everyone's safe.)
We (US) has reciprocal agreements with Canada and other countries regarding certification. Transport Canada and US certification requirements are very similar. Most companies find it convenient to hold certification under multiple jurisdictions including Transport Canada, FAA, and EASA.
Bombardier owns Learjet and has manufacturing in several states. An investigation will determine whether there is a design deficiency or a maintenance and inspection issue. When there is a "smoke in cockpit" incident in US airspace, the FAA will definitely be involved.
You may not know that Canadair produces planes used by most of the US carriers. My husband flew on a US Air flight from Charlotte to Knowville on a 50 seat Canadair plane. Delta also uses them. The Romney campaign probably used a charter company that uses thes planes.
The article doesn't say what kind of smoke filled the cabin... they were en-route to CA; when in Rome.
