The fact that something is NOTARIZED does not validate the contents.

A "summary" is not tax returns. If he really has nothing to hide - why not release the full returns as his father did. This makes him look worse - not better. Clearly he is hiding a great deal. 1) His so called investment income is in reality his real income. That is the main source of income for investment bankers. It is the way they get around paying a proper tax rate. They give themselves lower salaries and then pay themselves through the investment income, which is in reality the income they earn through the bets they make as their job. It is their real income, made through their everyday work, not money they have invested in a stock and then sold months / years later.

2) The same group of accounting firms Romney used to "summarize" his tax returns also gave the "ok" sign to those big banks right before they all failed. Accounting is a game of smoke and mirrors. Anyone with any basic knowledge of accounting knows that a summary is worthless.

Having been caught and having no recourse but to file an amended 2009 tax return in which you accepted penalties in exchange for relief from criminal prosecution, your amended return miraculously brought you back into that 13% effective range, upon which you now seek to hang your hat.

You paid 13% in 2008, but only AFTER you were threatened with criminal prosecution for felony tax evasion. You received amnesty, but the fact is your actions were felonious nonetheless.

So, forever parsing your words, the latest protestation is that you "…never paid less than 13% in taxes."

You don't deserve to be our President. Heck, you don't deserve to be much of anything at all, and the only remaining question is:

"What did you ORIGINALLY PAY IN TAXES FOR 2008 and what does that TRULY REVEAL ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER?"

2nd, there are several posts on this thread claiming people that make a middle class income pay a higher tax rate. While the marginal rate they shoud pay is higher (as is Romney's) according to the IRS in 2011, a middle class tax payer making $50k/ year paid an effective tax rate of 5.6%. Stop comparing the marginal tax rates with effective tax rates. The middle class still pays an effective rate far less than Romney's.

3rd, there are several posts on here regarding Romney's investment income and how he could not have paid taxes in 2008 and 2009 since the market crashed and his income comes from market investments and would have written off his losses. Thisis 100% wrong. Current tax law only allows a $3,000/year write off against investment loses. Meaning, if Romeny investes $100k and loses it, he can only reduce is taxable income by $3,000. However, if Romney invests $100k and makes $50k of income, he is taxed on the full amount. That is why capital gains are taxed at a lower rate than ordinary income.

Add up everyone here who is complaining, add to that the ones who don't care, Take the sum of every penny they have all paid to federal, state, social security, fica, and local taxes, multiply times 2 and you STILL won't be paying as much as Romney paid in Federal Taxes last year.

When married, making (combined) just over 6 figures, with 3 kids and a very modest house, my effective federal tax rate was 12%. Now single, only 1 kid to claim, the house (little better deduction since I had to refinance to pay off the ex), with a bit under a 6 figure income, and my effective rate is 14%. Still lower percentage than Romney, who DIDN'T HAVE ANY SALARY INCOME.

Keep in mind that capital gains are taxed lower because they are the result of longer term investments. A capital gain would be like you taking your post tax money, buying some land, using your post tax money to go buy tools, seed, fertilizer, etc, plant a garden, and when it comes time to harvest and then cook the food, cutting off a portion to give to the government. It is not the same as a salary and should not be taxed as high.

If Romney had earned the money at a job instead of as an investment, he would have been taxed at twice that rate.

Oh, and he donated more than everyone here put together, multiplied by about 10..

So quit whining about it, he has paid his dues and some of yours. Besides, who would you rather have as a president? Someone who knows how to make money work for itself or someone who only knows how to spend it?

Mitt DID NOT pay taxes on that money as wages (as you or I would do if we earned it and then invested it).

He got his "wages" from Bain as "carried interest". Bain put it into his bank account without any deductions for payroll taxes or income taxes. And then when Mitt filed his taxes, he claimed that money as "capital gains" and paid 15% on whatever his taxable income was figured at (after all his deductions for things like Ann's horse, which is why he didn't pay the full 15%).

That would be the equivalent of you or me getting 100% of our gross paycheck deposited to our account, using it for living expenses, vacations, whatever we wanted and then paying a tax rate of 15% on whatever was left over.

It is a LIE (vigorously perpetuated by the investor class) that they "already paid taxes" on that money. They NEVER DID.

I sometimes get paid in stock options. I don't pay taxes on those options. I can collect dividends though, which are capital gains. I can also sell the stock, PAY FULL PAYROLL TAX ON THE INITIAL VALUE, and then pay capital gains on the difference. Either way, I pay when I collect in the end.

At the same time, I get meals paid for all the time by my company because when I am at those meals, work is discussed, or they happen when I am travelling for work. I also get a car. I also get travel benefits. My gas is paid for. I have a vacation home that is in a city where one of our branches are and the company pays for the house even though I will use it for vacation. Yet all this is done withing the letter of the law. The thing is, the money that is used to pay for this stuff is a deduction in taxes for the business.

So there is nothing wrong in my opinion with a company making an investment, and taking a portion of the capital gains and dishing it out to the people who control it. That money is a gain on investment and is subject to capital gains tax. Why should it be taxed at a higher rate just because it went to the company instead of the investor? And to pay for company expenses like travel, meals, and cars with it would make sense to me. The rest is taxed at the capital gains rate. Why is this a problem?

Do you think that money was all given to him so he could make some speeches and print some money? My company lobbys all the time - for water rights. Last I checked, we all need water to drink and water to grow crops, but if we didn't hire lobbyists, the same people who helped Obama get into office would outlaw water wells in rural areas and force them to haul water from municipal plants that are sometimes 30+ miles away. Farmers would be out of business and our food would have to start coming from China.. And speaking of farmers, what happens when a farmer dies and hands his 1000 acres to his sons? Because 14% of a millionaire's taxes is still 100% more than a 50k a year guy's taxes at 30%. Paying their fair share means the rich are still paying a lot more than you. Already. Always has been this way because 14% of a million is 140,000. 30% of 50k is 16,550-ish. Considering that both groups get to perform tax deductions to not pay that maximum amount, 50k comes out to around 8k and 1 million comes out to about 100k. Then when you consider the rich guy also pays contributions to charities and on their investments, which all rich people DO have (else they'd not be rich), they end up paying around 250k - 1.9 million, depending on how well their investments did and if they had any income from corporate gains.

What Obama, a man who is rich because of donations and not because of effort or wise investing, doesn't understand is that the rich DO pay their fair share. More than their fair share when you consider that their taxes can eat yours and fifty other people's and still have room for dessert. What isn't happening is that the non-rich paying their fair share, instead bitching about how rich people don't pay enough tax when the reality is the rich people's tax is what is paying for this country in the first place. If no rich people paid their taxes, do you really think this country could survive off the paltry 20% remaining that do pay taxes when anyone under 38k a year gets all theirs back? To bayllie and the others complaining about the time Mitt is taking to disclose his 2011 tax return, the 2011 return isn't due until 10/15/12. Also, since Mitt has a trust and other partnership interests, he can't file his 2011 return until he gets his Schedules K-1 from those entities. The extended due date for those entities to file returns was 9/17/12 meaning Mitt most likely just recently received his K-1's. I'm not supporting Romney, or Obama for that matter, just stating facts.

Those aren't Mitts real tax returns the real ones are with Obama's birth certificate in Kenya. These guys where chosen at their moment of conception to take over the U.S.A. and destroy it.

The same deductions are there for everyone, millionaire or not. Investment income is taxed at a lower rate partly because there's a risk involved. The Government (not just the Republicans or just the Democrats - but the whole Government) has decided many years ago that a good way to stimulate investments (which carry risk) is to tax the potential returns at a lower rate. Yes, obviously, a millionaire has more potential money to invest, and more potential money to make or to lose on that investment. However, if any investor makes money, they get taxed at a lower rate.

So, if you don't like the policy of taxing investment income at a lower rate - then get that policy changed. However, don't blame the investor (big or small) that may make money on that investment. Also, be aware that NOT giving that tax break may have the effect of limiting investor interest, which has a negative effect on the economy also.

Encouraging certain economic strategies through tax policy is a complex issue - but it isn't something that just Millionaires/Republicans did to steal from people. It's something that all Governments support (including my Canadian Government) in order to encourage certain economic strategies.

Here's a few facts that we can glean from what Mitt released:

1) He has BOATLOADS of money stashed with Goldman Sachs. (How would that affect how he governs them as President?)

2) He's a partner in at least 30 overseas partnerships. (How would that affect his foreign policies?)

3) In 2005, his foreign taxes were $333,149. 2006 was $276,386. 2007 was $275,488. 2008 was $151,015. (How much money must he have overseas to owe that much in foreign taxes?)

4) And, apparently, Mitt paid NO U.S. income tax in 2009, since he has an $18,937 foreign tax credit left over from that year that he applied to his 2011 U.S. taxes.

Given that Romney said earlier that in no year he paid less than 13% and now the average is shown as 20%, one has to conclude that in at least one of the years, he paid a big percentage in taxes. Could it be year 2009 when there was a an amnesty for cheaters on foreign accounts in return for big fines? May be that is how the average jumped to 20%? It may also be the reason why Mitt would not release earlier returns. Otherwsie he could easily released 2009 return when he released 2010 return.

The dems will chant their mantra "its not enough, regardless of what he releases." And each release only gives them more excuses to attack him over things he did legitimately.

So Mitt Romney paid an AVERAGE of 14%... Anyone that understands math knows that this is a clever way to avoid the actual numbers. So he pays ZERO in 2008 and 2009, pays more in the other years, and the AVERAGE comes out to 14%. Does not change the fact that it is entirely possible that he paid ZERO in 2008 and 2009.

On top of that, Mitt pays 14% while middle class Americans pay 25%. Now the Republicans want to give Mitt a tax cut, so he pays LESS... and force the middle class to pay MORE.

The choice is simple.

With Republicans: Rich pay less, middle class pays more.

With Democrats: Rich pay more, middle class pay less.

That is all there is to it. Any Republican that says otherwise is a blatant LIAR. Romney's plan immediately ADDS $5 trillion to the debt. We have to pay for it. So if they refuse to make the rich pay for their own tax cut, guess who gets the bill? That's right, the middle class. Republicans will take your money and give it to people like Romney. As a moderate who believes in discussing issues that warrant debate, i.e. abortion, tax reform, immigration, foreign police, etc; I find it disturbing how many people do not care about Mitt Romney's Character. I say character as opposed to tax returns because as an accountant I believe there are many pieces of information on a tax return as I am sure a doctor would say of a medical history, etc.

For those who are unaware, tax evasion is illegal in contract to tax avoidance which is legal. Utilization of tax shelters is completely legal yet most Americans would question the reasoning for this tax advantage. Romney has released tax summaries, summaries that were formed by his CPAs and attorneys to represent certain figures.

I do not want to come off as an extremist lefty clamering for "all records" but even Romney needed ten years of tax returns from his vp canidates, I believe the American people are entitled to the same records of our potus canidate. Please someone explain to me why we should not know about his tax history, considering his evaluation of vp canidates. More than willing to have the conversation.

The birther thing is a red herring - since Obama's mother was a US citizen, it doesn't matter where he was born. He's still a citizen.

A citizen but there is still question as to whether he is a Naturalized Citizen. According to the birth certificate he released a couple years AFTER the election, he was born on U.S. soil. However, there has never been a definition from the Supreme Court as to whether someone born on foreign soil with only one parent being a U.S. Citizen would qualify them as "natural born".. it is accepted that two parents who are citizens would qualify you, and being born on U.S. soil qualifies you, but the fact is, nobody knows for sure if one parent can qualify a foreign born person to be "naturalized".

The birther argument was that since Obama wouldn't prove he was born on U.S. soil then it needed to be decided in Supreme Court as to the definition of "naturalized", which is the requirement to be president.

The fact that Obama hid the birth certificate for so long only brings question to the validity of it. The logic here was that if Romney is trying to hide something from his personal life, why was it OK for Obama to hide proof that he was born on American soil and hence even legally allowed to run for President? The funny thing is that people just want Romney's tax returns so they can sling mud at the fact that he is rich. The ones who wanted Obamas birth certificate just wanted to know if he could legally be president. Personally I think Romney releasing something he didn't HAVE to release while Obama hid and refused to release something that he should have been required to release goes to show you another difference between these candidates.

Sure he's successful, sure he gives more to charity each year than many will make in my lifetime, sure he made it by taking advantage of free-market capitalism - but none of that makes it right.

No kids, no house, no retirement investment, no charitible contributions, no medical deductions.. Not one single tax break. I am sorry to hear that.. perhaps you should visit with a tax planner or investment counselor, you are really paying too much in taxes for your bracket. BTW, I am in that same bracket.. only my EFFECTIVE rate was 14% last year. Now if you are actually in the 35% bracket and making over $388k per year, taking advantage of tax deductions to get you down to 25%, I hate to say it but you are actually NOT middle class.. again, sorry to break the news to you.

Oh, and we are talking FEDERAL TAXES here.. Not state, local, property, luxury, social security, medicare, vehicle, or sales taxes.. I am willing to bet that someone who makes 13 million a year spends a few dollars now and then and probably has a nice house that is worth a few dollars.. so he probably spend ANOTHER 15% or more on taxes.. And he maxed out his social security tax, and I doubt he will ever be collecting, it would probably cost him more in accounting fees to collect than he would get. I am sure the tax return is lots of pages long. Give them time to go through it and I am sure they will find something to beat him over the head with. @Ronzwyf - you may be an accountant and a certified IRS Tax Professional, but clearly you are not a CPA. Romney's tax rate is not due to the fact that he keeps excellent records of his expenses (although maybe he does). His tax rate is low because the majority of his income is investment income - qualified dividends and capital gains - which are taxed at a lower rate than ordinary income. Bain has been taking advantage of the carried interest rule which allows people to "convert" ordinary income into investment income. It's a loophole that both Repbulicans & Democrats use which is why it's never been removed by Congress. And as far as paying in estimates, the safe harbor is 90% of current year tax or 100% of prior year tax which means he's paying in at his effective rate of around 14%. No CPA from a big firm like PWC would have their client pay in a boatload of money only to get it all back months later.

I don't know how badly he trails in the other States, but I've heard he trails in Mass. by some 28% I know they are in general a Democratic State, but they are open minded enough to elect Scott Brown, so to trail by that margin tells me a lot... I believe he also trails in EVERY State he has lived. I guess except for New Hamshire, and we haven't gotten to the election yet... give it a few more weeks. I think even they will wake up before election time.

Romney had to submit at least seven years of tax data to his campaign when he was being vetted for Vice President in 2008. When all these folks from the Republican side were defending Romney and calling Reid a liar... who is it that never stood up and stated "I've seen his tax records and everything was in order". To date Mr McCain seems to be one of the few remaining Republicans who has some sense of honor and has defended people he felt were unjustly criticised. TMZ has learned Mitt Romney's son Tagg -- who had twins this year through a surrogate -- signed an agreement that gave the surrogate, as well as Tagg and his wife, the right to abort the fetuses in non-life threatening situations ... and Mitt Romney covered some of the expenses connected with the arrangement ... and it may boil down to an incredibly stupid mistake.

The twin boys -- David Mitt and William Ryder -- were born on May 4, 2012. We've learned Tagg and his wife Jen, along with the surrogate and her husband, signed a Gestational Carrier Agreement dated July 28, 2011. Paragraph 13 of the agreement reads as follows:

"If in the opinion of the treating physician or her independent obstetrician there is potential physical harm to the surrogate, the decision to abort or not abort is to be made by the surrogate."

Translation: Tagg and Jen gave the surrogate the right to abort the fetuses even if her life wasn't in danger. All the surrogate has to show is "potential physical harm," which could be something like preeclampsia -- a type of high blood pressure that could damage the mother's liver, kidney or brain, but is not necessarily life-threatening.

Paragraph 13 goes on:

"In the event the child is determined to be physiologically, genetically or chromosomally abnormal, the decision to abort or not to abort is to be made by the intended parents. In such a case the surrogate agrees to abort, or not to abort, in accordance with the intended parents' decision."

And there's another relevant provision in Paragraph 13:

"Any decision to abort because of potential harm to the child, or to reduce the number of fetuses, is to be made by the intended parents."

Translation: Tagg and his wife, Jen, had the right to abort the fetuses if they felt they would not be healthy.

Sources connected with Mitt Romney tell TMZ, Mitt was involved in the surrogate arrangement because he paid some of the expenses connected with the agreement. We do not know if Mitt Romney read the contract or knew the terms.

So why not release this months ago? And why not release previous (non-campaign) years if everything is on the up and up. I'm also noticing that he's given a lot to charity and that seems to impress a lot of you, as well it should. I'm just interested to know how much of that "charity" went to the LDS Church and how much went to actual charities. The LDS Church doesn't need anyone's money, and anyone who thinks they do has never been by Santa Monica & Overland in LA. Sure, all charity is technically charity but there's a huge difference between giving money to people who need it and giving it to people who don't. I'm not saying all of his contributions went to the LDS'ers, I'm just saying I'd like to see an itemization of his contributions. It could go a long way in the eyes of a lot of voters, after all, just look at how impressed a lot of you are by the numbers themselves.

Do you understand that the ONLY way to CREATE wealth is to harvest natural resources (or create something with those resources)? Anything else you do is taking money from someone else's pocket. For example.. a good hard working job would be working a road crew building roads for the government, right? Except they are getting paid with tax dollars, which came from some other hard working person, and no wealth was actually created, just redistributed. Someone has to have the money to pay the people to create things to export so they can pay taxes to pay the people who work to make things better so the guy back at the top can make more money to pay more people to make things to export so they can pay more taxes to pay more people to make things better for the the people at the top.. etc etc etc. The money comes from somewhere though, and if the government is taking a chunk in taxes, what is replenishing the source of money? Exports.. BUT where do the exported goods come from? Natural resources... See how it works? If you are not harvesting natural resources, you are JUST TAKING MONEY FROM SOMEONE ELSE.

The thing is, there are people who know how to take more money from someone else, and they end up with more for themselves. But EVERYONE takes from someone else. The money to pay for exports comes from other countries.. The only thing that makes the U.S. stand out is we have collected more money from other places than any other country, so there is more wealth here to move around. A lot of wealth means a lot of people figuring out how to move it into their bank account.

Your real problem here is that you don't like that Romney and his type have figured it out better than you have and as a result have more than you do. YOU still take money from others, just not as much, so for YOU it is OK, but since he takes more, it is NOT ok..

Here is the thing: There are people who see how much YOU have and say it is too much. The average American is more wealthy than 98% of the rest of the world. There are BILLIONS of people out there who see YOU as having more than them on the same scale that Romney has in relation to you. Yet you are OK with that.. it is Romney that is the problem, not YOU, right?

Quit being a hypocrit. We, as a nation, have taken more wealth from other people on this planet than we deserve. And we are ALL taking advantage of it. Just because some take better advantage than others shouldn't matter, a sin is a sin, right? The kicker here is that Romney works in investment.. and he doesn't make that kind of money unless he is making money for all his customers. The people who pay him are happy to do so, because they took a piece of the pie too. It is the people who gambled their money in other places and lost who are not OK with it.. and that is what investing is - a gamble. If you go gamble your money with no knowledge of what you are gambling on, you will probably lose to the ones who DO know.

Here are some ironies: if you suddenly struck it rich, by say, winning the lottery (which is paid for by people), you wouldn't turn it down because it was immoral and came from other people's losses. You would take it and smile. Then you would invest it and pay 15% capital gains tax on the return. Just like Romney.

Another one is that unless you are harvesting natural resources from the earth, you are just taking money from someone else's pocket in some form or another. But if you ARE actually CREATING wealth for the economy, then you are raping the land and destroying the environment. As usual , most of you misstate the facts. he paid about 14% income tax which was 1.9 Million Dollars. He gave 4 million to charity which was nearly 30% of of his income for 2011. If he gave just 10% to the Mormon church, that leaves 20% to others. Further, he only claimed 2 million of the charitable giving for tax purposes. He I think he has Paid more than his FAIR Share since 47% of you pay NO income tax. Besides, I have looked at Obama's tax return and he has paid as low as 13% some years himself. You won't see that broadcast on MSMBC and the Obama's only gave 10% in charity and claimed it all!

I fear for America's future! Well, especially if Obama gets re-elected. The economy and our foreign policy is in the tank and all Obama's supporters can come up with is Romney hasn't released every tax return he's filed since 200 years before he was born. NTU urges Senators to vote “NO” on cloture on the motion to proceed to S. 2230, the “Paying a Fair Share Act of 2012.” Also called the “Buffett Rule,” S. 2230 is nothing more than a contrived talking point masquerading as tax reform.

Concocted by President Obama and billionaire financier Warren Buffett, this targeted tax increase ignores progressivity already built into the tax code while subjecting investment to multiple, punitive, layers of taxation. Despite heated rhetoric demanding they "pay their fair share," the truth is that "the rich" already shoulder the largest share of financing government. CBO data indicated that the top 1 percent of income earners made 19.4 percent of pre-tax income in America but paid 28.1 percent of all federal taxes and 39.5 percent of all income taxes.

By primarily targeting individuals with large amounts of capital gains and dividend income, the Buffett rule would set us on a course to crushing tax rates. Next year, some Americans will be hit with a new 3.8 percent surtax on investment income thanks to the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. That provision will rocket capital gains rates to 23.8 percent and dividend taxation to 43.4 percent, when combined with other increases built into current law. Making matters worse, the income thresholds exposed to these rates won't be adjusted for inflation.

Piling the new Buffett rule tax on top of that, especially considering that investment income is often already taxed at the corporate level with a 35 percent marginal rate, would yield staggeringly high penalties on the very activity our economy needs for a robust recovery. It would also place us out of step even with high-tax European countries, virtually all of which give preferential treatment to investment income to reduce the impact of double-taxation.

In short, the Buffett rule is but a rallying point for the campaign trail, not a policy that belongs in our already mind-numbingly complex and burdensome tax code.

Is Ann Romney psychic, or simply stating the obvious? I believe she stated that no matter how much they released, their opponents would attack it and complain. Mitt Romney released his 2011 tax returns, as demanded. He released a summary of 20 years of tax returns as demanded (not legally required). Neither Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Reagan, Carter, Nixon, Johnson, Kennedy, Eisenhower, Truman, etc. had to do this. And yet, the carrion swooped in, ripped through his information and attacked.

I realize that most of the bloggers are not in the income bracket that the political players are in. But there are a couple of things that are common sense. 1) Simply having investments in foreign markets (Caymen, Swiss, any foreign market) doesn't make them tax free. 2) And not a single one of you tax payers have refused to take tax deductions in order to lower your tax liability. I know that in more than 25 years, not a single one of my clients have.

The argument along economical divides (or let's say "social standing" divides) is about a middle class person paying 30% (wrong!) and how mitt only payed about 14%. I pay 15% on an amount over $981 plus a marginal amount of $66.90 (don't be lazy, do the research on IRS Publication 15 circular E...Married, paid every two weeks, using the wage bracket method). If I were to figure it, after my meager deductions and tax credits from TurboTax (that would be the Efiling thing which takes like $70 of your taxes) I probably pay around 9-11%. Do the research, I'm in the upper-middle end of that tax bracket paying every two weeks. Multiply it by 26 and you'll find that people who make around $50,000/yr don't pay as much as you think. You see kids, the reason the middle class carry the tax burden is simply numbers. While the upper 10% has more money, there's simply more people who make $30-$60 thousand per year. That's where you make the tax burden, in the largest portion. It's a little less than the 15% Mittsy paid, but when you add the figures...it's just more.

Look at us divided along Ethnic lines. There's people actually saying that people are jealous about a black man in the white house. Kids, he fails as a president. It has nothing to do with color, his policies are just lame. "Shovel Ready Jobs"? How'd that work out? ObamaCare? Graphs and charts won't work in this election remember 2010? I am going to bet the same thing happens this year. The economy sucks and everyone knows it, obama made promises he could not keep, I don't know if anyone could have done what he said he could do. 2) PW would be held legally liable if they filed any fraudulent financials. So it doesn't serve them to do anything illegal.

3) The IRS has found Mitt Romney's tax returns to be complete and accurate.

4) The summary summarizes the tax returns that he filed with the IRS. It is a legal document that is being provided to the public. He's not required to file his returns with you. You haven't reviewed the 203 pages of his 2010. You're not going to review 4,000+ pages of tax returns for the last 20 years.

5) This information is good enough to satisfy all applicable federal laws and government agencies.

6) You won't vote for him supposedly because you think he didn't pay enough. You won't vote for him supposedly because he paid more than legally required.

7) These condemnations are from people who aren't even aware of what a tax liability is let alone what tax bracket they are in.

Romney is a tax cheat! He didn't take all the deduction he was allowed and thus according to his OWN words HE is NOT qualified to be president! He purposely didn't take all his charitable donations so that it would APPEAR his rate was 14% but in reality is was closer to 10% with all deduction taken (by the way he can amend his taxes and still claim that money for three years!).

After reading a few replies it appears i wouldn't want anyone here touching my return.

1. income: 13.7m. dedutions: morm church 1.37m other charities 2.63m. total 4m. tax paid 1.9m. Thats about 14.2%

However, with 13.7m- 4m=9.7m. since this is not EARNED income it is taxed at 13%for 1.26m.

Willard can now file an amended return to claim the tax on his charitable giving and recoup .64m. Along with the rest of his dedutions he should clear about 1m. So in essence he is paying about 10%.

This is all legal, so why it took so long lends an air of mendacity to it.

I'm not seeing the issue with Mitt's returns. He payed what he legally owed and took advantage of the same loopholes every other rich person takes. He did nothing illegal or wrong in my mind. US Government taxes enough as it is. The fix to our economic problem is not to tax more, its to spend less. Mitt still pays more taxes in a year than I will pay in my entire lifetime. I'm not going to demonize him for taking advantage of LEGAL tax loopholes in order to keep more of the money he earned.
