House Speaker John Boehner suggested Friday that Mitt Romney's difficulties in Ohio might be attributable, ironically, to the success of the state's Republican governor.
Boehner, the Republican from southwestern Ohio, praised the work Gov. John Kasich, who has presided over a decreasing unemployment rate in the Buckeye State (though that's partly attributable to a shrinking labor force).

But the speaker suggested, too, that Obama might be benefitting in the key swing state of Ohio from perceptions that the economy has improved.
"One of the things that probably works against Romney in Ohio is that Governor Kasich has done such a good job of fixing government regulations in the state, attracting new businesses in the state so our unemployment in Ohio is lower than the national average," Boehner said in response to a question from NBC News at his press conference on Capitol Hill.
"As a matter of fact, I think it's a full point lower so as a result people are still concerned about the economy and jobs in Ohio but it certainly isn't like what you see in some other places," the speaker added.
Obama led Romney, 50 to 43 percent, among likely voters in Ohio in last week's NBC News-Marist-Wall Street Journal poll.

Uh ... hey ... Boner Boehner ... go have another cigarette and cocktail and celebrate the end of your reign as majority leader. Buh-bye now.
What popularity ? Kasich is toast in 2014, and everyone here knows it, LOL. Any improvement in the economy is due to Obama's policies, and not the governor's. As a matter of fact, the voters here overwhelmingly slapped Kasich's pet "reforms" right back at him in last year's referendum. Bah on Boehner's view, but what do you expect from people that are so far out of touch with people ?
Boehner knows the millionaires that keep me in business, thank goodness. You haven't sent any businees my way, your president what's his name wants to close my business by taxing me more. I don't like that, i want him out of there. i want a business man in office, someone that can turn this toilet economy around and put people back to work. But i know you just love laying around the aprt. and collecting them Govnmt. check. So sad that only goes so far!!
This is really hysterical!!! Gov. Kasich and his GOP legislature have REALLY pissed off Ohio citizens and is the most dislike politician in the state. Boehner is 2nd! THAT is why Ohio, barring a repeat of vote tampering, will go to Obama! Republicans are AMAZING!! LOL
"He [Obama] says we need more firemen, more policemen, more teachers. Did he not get the message of
Wisconsin? The American people did. It's time for us to cut back on government and help the American people."
--Mitt Romney at a campaign event in Council Bluffs, Iowa, June 8, 2012
"Corporations are people, my friend…of course they are. Everything corporations earn ultimately goes to the people. Where do you think it goes? Whose pockets? Whose pockets? People's pockets. Human beings, my friend."
-- Mitt Romney to a heckler at the Iowa State Fair who suggested that taxes should be raised on
corporations to help balance the budget, Aug. 11, 2011.
Talk about a mixed meassage, Mr Boehner. So A causes B, but B doesn't necessarily result from A. It just depends. Got it.
CommonSense-- ummmm. if you take a look at recent history, you will find it has been REPUBLICANS who have been the big spenders!!
Mirror, Mirror, on the Wall, Which President Is the Biggest Spender
of All?
http://www.cato-at-liberty.org/mirror-mirror-on-the-wall-which-president-is-the-biggest-spender-of-all/
Have you no shame to keep on lying like this??
You got me wrong there Tom in NH. I was trying to show how Romney is saying that corporations are people but then says that we need to cut the government jobs as if the people who work for the government are not people. I wonder if Romney thinks people who work for the government are Chinese like the people who worked for him when he was at Bain Capital!
Ohio has jobs - good. People need jobs - when you got your current job - did 318 people apply for your job? Did 30 get a first interview? Did 9 get a second interview? Did 3 get a third interview? and finally did 1 get the job over a 2 week interview period? Did you compete against people with biology, dentist, law, english, and geology degrees? This is how hard it is today to get a job.
Comments from prospective employers - 1. we would like to hire you but we can't-with the economy in the tank - I can only pay you under the table to move that pipe from the west yard to the east yard. 2. we cannot hire you because we may have to lay you off in a week or so - we will give you $25, under the table - if you get what I mean to take the fryer fat grease to the recycling center. Romney said National security first, jobs second - Mr. Romney undertands the economy and he will get my vote.
When a single person does not have a job and 99 weeks of unemployment has expired - that person waits for section 8 housing, $443 in food stamps, $285 cash allowance, a free bus pass and used clothes and shoes - and walking in someone else's shoes is hard. Right now any job will do because at least if a single person gets Christmas work - the 99 weeks can start again. In America- we cannot measure unemployment because so many people are off unemployment and have moved to general welfare. The jobs created last month almost equaled the number of people who moved to disability social security so there was no job growth. Romney/Ryan please - we need jobs.
willwatch, I'm wondering what is your soutrce of statistics? Perhaps if you footnoted your source of ststistics it might be a tad believable, because CNN Money, quoting Labor Dept. reports cites:
"In the year following Obama's inauguration, the U.S. economy lost about 4.3 million jobs. But new figures released Thursday show 4.4 million jobs have been added back since then.
Obama's economy
A look at where the economy stood when Obama took office and what's changed since.

Here's how it happened: Since early 2010, jobs have slowly been trickling back, particularly in professional services, health care and manufacturing. As of August, the Labor Department had indicated about 4 million jobs had been recovered overall. Those figures get revised frequently though, as the Labor Department gets more complete data over time."
Righhhht. Go back to the tanning booth and chain smoking boner.
We should tell Boehner and the rest of the Republicans to go f@@k yourself. They have done nothing to help Obama get to get this economy moving. They f@@k it up and a Democrat has to come in and fix it. They have all the answers for fixing our economy, but never say how. All Romney ever says is me good and Obama bad. This Romney guy is evil, just look closely at his eyes when you see him in person or on television. Now this is really the true anti-christ. Him and his wife think they are entitled to the white house because they are rich. A vote for Romney that help him win will finally kill this economy and this country.
How full of crap is Bohner? When something works, it helps your cause, not hurts. How dumb does he think voters are? The reason that Obama is ahead is because the republicans for four years have been practicing cynical politics. They think voters are stupid! Only so much of the population subscribes to the right wing propaganda that makes it possible to swallow stuff like this. To the rest, it falls on deaf ears. Yes, republicans think voters are stupid. You can hear it straight from Romney's mouth when he talks that 47% nonsense. Some of that 47% used to be part of your base Romeny! Used to be.
SayHi2YourMom4Me,
Yes the GOP not only believe the voters are stupid, stupid enough to vote against their own best interests, they also believe hate is stronger than common sense, and they are right much of the time, which is why this is such a close race. There are those ,even the poor, who ctually believe Romney and the Tea Party is talking about others and not them. A man on Medicaid, living in a shelter, so full of hate, saying he would give up all his benefits to ensure those undeserving would not get them. I thought," what criteria is he using to determine he is deserving and someone else getting the same benefits is less deserving"?
Boehner lives in an alternate universe where every republican candidate helps others, including helping the Democratic President win re election. Brings a tear to my eyes.
According toJerry Falwell, eleven of the twelve apostles were republican and one was a registered democrat.I wWonder who that could have been? And the one who denied Christ was once a democrat but changed to republican after he saw the light.
What is up with you Jesse? Are you ok? do you need a hug?
Boehner is a bonehead. He was part of the pact to make sure Obama failed before he ever set foot in the oval office.
When things are going good in Ohio it is the governor's policies. when they are going bad, it is Obama's fault. way to go boner!
I was going down the list of comments WAITING until I saw one mention SB 5, which was an unpopular attempt by the Republicans to strip union rights in Ohio. Glad I finally saw one! The SB 5 was pushed by the Republicans, supported by Romney publicly, and HATED by the majority of Ohioans. It was a HUGE UPROAR in this state! The repeal of that bill went so smoothly it was like a beautifully delivered uppercut to the cocky republicans in my state of Ohio that spent more time trying to pass anti-choice legislation over a woman's right to choose, and trying to implement union stripping bills that infuriated a large majority of the state. I know I'm not the only Ohioan who hasn't forgotten that Romney supported SB 5 thought up by Republicans that the majority of Ohioans disagree with, hence the repeal of that crap.
I'm also SICK of hearing the Republicans talk about how they are for smaller government. Why doesn't that apply to my uterus??? If it did, I might actually consider voting republican, but I can't because I don't want to be forced into having kids. if I choose to raise them I'd want to ADOPT! And having the freedom to choose my reproductive future isn't the only thing that republicans fight against that I consider big government. They want to grow the military...that means more government spending. They'd rather go to war and send young people to death than to put that money into feeding hungry children. At least a democratic president chooses a war with trepidation rather than the way the Republicans go in happily and seemingly with no moral quarrels inwardly, while barring the images of American soldiers' coffins arriving back home to lessen progressive criticism. Thankfully that was a GWB practice that President Obama wisely did not continue. There was also an interesting snippet last year about how down south somewhere, at some festival of sorts, during GWB's run, they would sent a MILITARY fighter jet/plane to fly over the festival wasting tax dollars for NO GOOD REASON. President Obama did NOT approve the wasteful flight, and the southerners were all pissed off about it. The Republicans waste plenty of money for absurd reasons, and they don't fool me one bit.
To all women who really don't want the republican party messing with their rights to birth control, look at what the republicans have been fighting for the past 2 years when they gained access to power. Tell the men in your life that a vote for Romney is a vote against having sex with you unless they're prepared to go to another country and hook you up with what may be illegal birth control or a legal/safe abortion. Perhaps if men see this may affect their ability to SLEEP with women, they'll look at Romney for what he is. (Hey Romney, we don't all have mormon values so don't legislate them into law!!!) I for one won't care about any complaints from people who didn't vote or voted for Romney if he wins and attacks my reproductive rights. Don't come crying to me, go vote against that big government @$$ Romney! He doesn't care what rights get taken away he can afford to send the women he loves to other countries if he ever has a need for birth control/abortion. Don't be fooled, republicans get abortions too, they just are very secretive about it in general. Some go get an abortion and are picketing an abortion clinic the very next week. It's the epitome of ignorance and hypocrisy.
One of President Obama's greatest accomplishments was his decision to assassinate Osama Bin Laden. Not only the decision to assassinate, but the way in which to go about it was pulled off brilliantly, and THAT ALONE, means he deserves re-election. He accomplished in less than 4 years what the Republicans couldn't accomplish in 7. And even if they had found his location, I can recall John McCain saying that going into a sovereign nation to get Osama was naive thinking. That means if Obama had NOT won in 2008, we'd be living in a world with a living Osama Bin Laden today. I don't trust republicans to make us safer, I trust them to attack my rights, and give tax breaks to the rich. Romney's MEGABUCKS will NEVER buy me.
Oh and the bailout-SAVED MY FATHER'S JOB! so to all the butt lickers who are saying the auto bailout didn't help, don't say that crap to Ohioans, we KNOW that's nothing but a lie to try and steal a vote for constipated looking Romney.
Romney needs to learn for once and for all that money CANNOT buy EVERYTHING. Certainly not the presidential election!
Romney should have named Boner as his VP running mate. God knows they have pulled enough of them.
Boehner is too crafty to get himself tangled up in a presidential election that is doomed to failure.
This election is about Obama and no one else. Ohio should think about something more than all tax payer money distributed there way. 6 trillion borrowed, 16 trillion deficit, 21 embassies burning, Iran going nuclear, China treatening Japan, Over 8% unemployment longer than anytime in history, Gas prices double, Healthcare law costing 3 trillion in new taxes, the Fed borrowing 40 billion a month to keep the stock market up, home prices worthless, median income $3000 lower this year...Try to think of one good thing this president has accomplished since elected then Vote.
I guess Boenner forgot about all the auto worker jobs that were saved by the president in Ohio despite the gov not supporting the bailout.
This is a very strange election because NO Republican leadership support is evident!
The Repukes are missing!. They and the money people are NOT supporting Romney. Boehner is visibly absent from the campaign. What a terrible leader he is..no interest in the Republican party..only interest in saving his hide...He is useless.
Sweaver209,
Your non-arguement is so weak and laughable that it could only convince an amoeba. Others beware that the dirty games have already begun from the GOP. Beware of texts urging and instructing you how to cost the Obama campaign money, how to fool voters to go to the wrong precinct. If you get e-mail or texts giving you directions other than you have received by mail directly from your voting precinct, call your county voting office at their published number only. Please don't wait until the 9th hour to vote. If you don't have freedom to vote any other freedom you may think you have is gone also.
And just to think, the democratic party was originally named the democratic-republican party, formed in part by Thomas Jefferson. I believe the federalists and demo-repubs existed until Andrew Jackson ran for president. It was then, when the parties were re-established as democratic-republicans and national republicans and eventually separated into democrats vs. republicans.
Not after last nights debate! The ACA, Obama care, adds 21 new taxes and fees. These will be passed to the middle class!
Romney/Ryan-2012 and beyond!
