SARASOTA, FL—Mitt Romney seized on remarks delivered by President Obama today, attempting to seize the role of “change” candidate after the president seemed to suggest in a televised forum that he could not change Washington from the inside.
"We face a Washington that’s broken, that can’t get the job done. The president today threw in the white flag of surrender again. He said he can’t change Washington from inside. He can only change it from outside,” Romney said. “Well, we’re going to give him that chance in November. He’s going outside!”
Romney was referring to an answer President Barack Obama gave to Spanish-language broadcaster Univision at a forum in Miami just a few hours before Romney took the stage. At the forum, which Romney attended last night, the president was asked to name his biggest failure.
The president told the forum’s moderator that he felt his biggest failure was in not passing comprehensive immigration reform, then pivoted to lessons-learned.
“The most important lesson I've learned is that you can't change Washington from the inside. You can only change it from the outside,” bama said. “That's how I got elected, and that's how the big accomplishments, like health care, got done, was because we mobilized the American people to speak out.”
Romney campaign aides, on the defensive for much of the last week over Romney’s surreptitiously-recorded comments in a May fundraiser, began blasting out the comments on social media, while other aides brought them to Romney’s attention on the nine-minute drive from his lunchtime fundraiser to the afternoon rally.
Taking the podium under sweltering conditions, Romney attacked.
“This is time for a new president. He went from the president of change to the president who can’t get change,” Romney said. “I heard it from the reports that came out and they said the president of the United States says he can’t change Washington from the inside. Isn’t that amazing?”
“No wonder he’s had such a hard time over the last four years his first two years he had a Democratic house, Democratic senate, he got to do whatever the heck he wanted to but he says he can’t change it from the inside,” Romney continued. “Well I will. I’ll get the job done, we’ll change Washington we’ll restore the economic strength."
Republicans quickly flagged Obama's line as indicative of Obama's failure to deliver on high expectations he created as a candidate in 2008. The GOP argued that Obama's comment amounted to a concession that business persists as usual in Washington.
Noting that Obama regularly refers to change in Washington as slow-moving and a goal that must be sought for from outside the capital. "Change is hard" has become a refrain for Obama in his campaign stops, his plea to supporters from 2008 whose enthusiasm has waned.
The Obama campaign quickly labeled Romney’s comments as “wildly out of context,” and called the attack built on them an act of desperation.
Nevertheless, the Romney campaign, sensing an opening, made the concept of Romney-as-change-candidate the centerpiece of today’s rally here in a county John McCain won by only a few hundred votes four years ago, but where Republicans see an opportunity to run up large margins this November.
“Now I know that the people of America have a choice. They can choose thecurrent incumbent. He represents the status quo. If we reelect Barack Obama you know exactly what we're going to see,” Romney said, adding that a vote for the GOP ticket this fall would be a vote for “real change.”

Mittens is a liar. The only change he wants to make is to lower his own tax rate to zero and hve 98% of the nation pay the bill.

Mitt Romney must be hard-pressed by letting his wife campaign for him. I understand that Mrs. Romney has Multiple Sclerosis (MS) which is a very serious disease of the nervous system which can be physically and mentally extremely devastating to her health! Anxiety or undue pressure can cause Mrs. Romney to have an MS attack and potentially be devastating to her health or life! What kind of man, I use "man" loosely in Mitt Romney's case, would put his wife's health and life at risk for his personal political gain???
I definitely believe a Romney administration would be one of change, but I'm even more certain I'd not like their changes: they seem to have a burning desire to return to the early part of the 20th century, and we've been there.
Of course, what any administration wants to do will usually be very different from what they can do. The administration proposes and Congress disposes.
Of course he is the candidate of change - he changes his position on issues sometimes several times a day. How this idiot got the nomination is beyond me.
He had the deepest pockets, and was the last man standing. We saw by the low GOP primary turn-out, they didn't like any of their choices...he just drew the short straw, I guess lol
You know, what I'd really like to know is IF any new president is going to come in and repeal/revoke/undo any of these dangerous and harmful laws and acts that have been passed during Emperor Zero's time in office. Like the NDAA (most dangerous piece of legislation in US History), Obamacare, Disband the department of homeland security, Disband TSA and their band of groping perverts, etc......
Why is no one asking these questions?
Anything & everything in this country could change if you damn politicians would work for the good of the country instead of the good of your bank accounts and insatiable need of power. Duh, why? Because the entrenched legislators know only the backroom deal, the under the table bargin. We need fresh blood on that Hill, we need, for the sake of our country, we need to vote out those who can not play along with the rest of the team. The only way this country is going to get back to that golden place wherein we are the 'sleeping giant' is if everyone in the country (legislators included) are on the same page, on the same paragraph. To often we read, we hear, we see the effects of those "team members" who don't want to play along with the head coach. (who by the way, was put in the job by the citizens of this country) This country absolutly needs to have everyone on the same page working together with the same goal in mind, and at present, that's sadly not the case. -- I think that Mr. Eastwood said it best, said it clear - "We own this country" - and when we stand up, speak out and V-O-T-E our voice is heard loud and clear. Romney a candidate of change? Oh yeah, he, a member of the elitist 1%. This man seemingly will say what ever is put in his mouth, which makes him a puppet. I do not want a puppet for a leader. I want a person who knows their own mind and knows where he/she wants to go. And yes, I firmly believe that one day, real soon, there will be a woman running for the big chair. In my part of the country, those who are with me in the trenches, also believe that one day there will be a woman who will run. And no, I will not vote for Mrs. Clinton. A fine woman, a excellent Sec of State, but leader of the free world? No. Who will she be? IMHO: A military general, who's served, has some battle experience under her belt, who's got connections on the family level. Does such a general exist? I think so and I'd work for her campaign for free. But Romney a candidate for change? Yeah, the jangling change in his pocket. I'm just sayin
At first it was funny to watch. A moron driven by feedback from low information users, he really did start to believe the joke that is him and his 'keeping up appearances 'challenged' sidekick aka ann - the cow of all cows decided to politicize MS. A sufferer i could not believe the nerve!
Unlike the cow unbecoming, i have to go to work. Can't lie around at home so, that sensation that makes one feel like you are walking on the bottom of a swimming pool [the resistance to motion] the eye thing wherein i thought that was it (an engineer, i NEED my sight), the burning feet or hands, the lethargy to the point the Dr.s decided to pump me full of steroids just to go for a while.
This bitch did a bit of a sob a bit of a cry about my condition to get the robot it calls her husband a leg up. Showed how low they shall sink to say what they have to say and do what they need to get what they want. One thing i don't get. A husband (like they used to make them) is meant to be a 'psuedo spiritual leader' in the house. As far as i know, she was not born a mormon. Why would she marry a mormon? Do they go to different churches? Who does she believe in? How does she reconcile JESUS, the foundation of Christianity with that bloke they say founded their religion?
What does she think of a central tenet of theirs that me and other people like me are the curse of cain? Does she believe that the Old testament was to teach the law and in CHRIST, the new testament taught the grace and love of the LORD? or has she completely tossed all this out to be with the robot for change?
It is all a game for these twats. Take for example Congress passing the bill to fund government without fussing Now they are looking after their backsides. Whatever happened to their posture of doing everything to make the president appear a failure - and the next time i hear the simpletons utter - '...and this president' i most likely might throw up.
