SARASOTA, FL—Mitt Romney seized on remarks delivered by President Obama today, attempting to seize the role of “change” candidate after the president seemed to suggest in a televised forum that he could not change Washington from the inside.
"We face a Washington that’s broken, that can’t get the job done. The president today threw in the white flag of surrender again. He said he can’t change Washington from inside. He can only change it from outside,” Romney said. “Well, we’re going to give him that chance in November. He’s going outside!”
Romney was referring to an answer President Barack Obama gave to Spanish-language broadcaster Univision at a forum in Miami just a few hours before Romney took the stage. At the forum, which Romney attended last night, the president was asked to name his biggest failure.
The president told the forum’s moderator that he felt his biggest failure was in not passing comprehensive immigration reform, then pivoted to lessons-learned.
“The most important lesson I've learned is that you can't change Washington from the inside. You can only change it from the outside,” bama said. “That's how I got elected, and that's how the big accomplishments, like health care, got done, was because we mobilized the American people to speak out.”
Romney campaign aides, on the defensive for much of the last week over Romney’s surreptitiously-recorded comments in a May fundraiser, began blasting out the comments on social media, while other aides brought them to Romney’s attention on the nine-minute drive from his lunchtime fundraiser to the afternoon rally.
Taking the podium under sweltering conditions, Romney attacked.
“This is time for a new president. He went from the president of change to the president who can’t get change,” Romney said. “I heard it from the reports that came out and they said the president of the United States says he can’t change Washington from the inside. Isn’t that amazing?”
“No wonder he’s had such a hard time over the last four years his first two years he had a Democratic house, Democratic senate, he got to do whatever the heck he wanted to but he says he can’t change it from the inside,” Romney continued. “Well I will. I’ll get the job done, we’ll change Washington we’ll restore the economic strength."
Republicans quickly flagged Obama's line as indicative of Obama's failure to deliver on high expectations he created as a candidate in 2008. The GOP argued that Obama's comment amounted to a concession that business persists as usual in Washington.
Noting that Obama regularly refers to change in Washington as slow-moving and a goal that must be sought for from outside the capital. "Change is hard" has become a refrain for Obama in his campaign stops, his plea to supporters from 2008 whose enthusiasm has waned.
The Obama campaign quickly labeled Romney’s comments as “wildly out of context,” and called the attack built on them an act of desperation.
Nevertheless, the Romney campaign, sensing an opening, made the concept of Romney-as-change-candidate the centerpiece of today’s rally here in a county John McCain won by only a few hundred votes four years ago, but where Republicans see an opportunity to run up large margins this November.
“Now I know that the people of America have a choice. They can choose thecurrent incumbent. He represents the status quo. If we reelect Barack Obama you know exactly what we're going to see,” Romney said, adding that a vote for the GOP ticket this fall would be a vote for “real change.”

The latest FEC report indicates that the Romney SuperPac Restore Our Future (a name that still makes no sense to me) was down to just $6 million in cash on August 31st. ROF started the year with $23.5 million in the warchest and raised just over $66 million more this year.
They've blown through $83 million bucks, almost all for advertising in the swing states, and look what they've got to show for it. Behind in the polls, time getting short, voter attitudes hardening and early voting beginning.
Obama's SuperPac, Priorities USA, started the year with a paltry $1.5 million, raised $22.6 million and spent $18.3 million. PUSA has $4.2 million in the kitty. Results? President Obama heading into the final stretch of the campaign with a measurable lead.

It seems that Obama had a campaign trip to the Golden State of broke-azz cities - to visit with and to suck another million out of his buddies - the 1% "folks," a while back. Evidently one of the 457 poor under-paid aides of Obama's $37 million a year staff forgot to book an elementary school (or whatever) for Obama to sell them on their need for free birth control so Obama could write the campaign trip off and let the tax payers pay for it.
And believe it or not, since the trip was not an official visit, the city actually had the rank temerity to send the campaigner-in-chief the bill for the extra security and expenses!
And believe it or not, the insolent officials of Newport Beach have been playing the "pay the damn bill" circle jerk with President Stiff since FEBRUARY …. a $35,000 bill to reimburse for police protection for So he could up another $1 MILLION – And Obama doesn't pay?

Romney was in my neighborhood today. Right down the street from where I live. It was a strange choice of venues as it is a very Progressive, Liberal neighborhood with probably more Obama/Biden signs per square mile than any other neighborhood in the City. Lots of luxury cars and old, white men clogging up our peaceful streets.

What Obama was telling the electorate with his you cant change Washington from the inside comment is this: You (each individual voter) need to make the change in congress so things can get done. Romney will seize it and spin it no doubt but this is what he was saying.

Health care reform was needed, WANTED DESPERATELY by the public, but passed through as it was because it never would have survived the Republican obstructionist congress. Remember how the past four years, instead of focusing on compromise, or coming up with their own solutions, or maybe planning a better campaign, they've openly stated that their NUMBER ONE GOAL was to "make Obama a one-term president"? Yeah. And if you didn't know what was in it, it was probably because you were one of the vast uninformed minions glued to Fox News, because there was really not very many secrets as to what was in it, because it was so eerily similar to Mitt Romney's plan in Massachusetts, you'd think he'd be pouncing on it to take credit for it... but he didn't. Probably because health care reform was part of Obama's campaign, and admitting that he delivered on a promise would mean--GOD FORBID--that Obama did something right and is actually an effective president.
It's really a shame that the only tactic the Republican party has to win this election is repeatedly block legislation and then make it seem like Obama is the one who is ineffective... can they point to ANYTHING that THEY HAVE DONE? Just one thing they have accomplished, instead of pointing out all of Obama's alleged failures?

Ensuring that children had coverage, making sure that insurance companies couldn't yank your coverage once you got sick, getting rid of pre-existing condition declines, making sure that 85 cents of every dollar went towards the plan or was returned to the customer, creating a competitive, cost-effective exchange, creating subsidies for those who need it, free preventative screenings and annual exams... What kind of crazy person was Obama to "spring" this on the public like that? I am not, nor ever will be, for nor against anything Democratic or Republican; same goes for liberal or conservative. Assuming a staunch position in these matters is indicative of a person who is unwilling to consider another point of view.
I want, as do the rest of you, to understand what is and what has been to make an informed decision/vote for the President of the United States. It's become way too complex. Who is after all the person to solve problems in America and respond to other countries problems.
I can only bring the decision down to what I think is good for America, as thus:
1. Does the Presidential hopeful recognize that strict party affiliation currently has been detrimental to American interest. Further, is the hopeful willing to go against these affiliations for the betterment of America. (Sadly, I recognize that the backing of said parties is important to the financial contribution of advetisement dollars,aka, the re-election of the politian.) Most importantly, since when has the, "parties" goal become one of furtherance of the party and not one of furtherance of American interest?
2. I submit this excerpt from the article, as per Romney: “This is time for a new president. He went from the president of change to the president who can’t get change,” Romney said. “I heard it from the reports that came out and they said the president of the United States says he can’t change Washington from the inside. Isn’t that amazing?” Further, “No wonder he’s had such a hard time over the last four years his first two years he had a Democratic house, Democratic senate, (good point if it's accurate) he got to do whatever the heck he wanted to but he says he can’t change it from the inside,” Romney continued. “Well I will. I’ll get the job done, we’ll change Washington we’ll restore the economic strength."
2. This an excerpt of the article from Presient Obama: “The most important lesson I've learned is that you can't change Washington from the inside. Both candidates have said that Washington should be changed. Neither has clarified what changing Washington means nor how to go about it, only indicating that they, if elected, will do so -- humm.
While I may be one of the Amercians who don't have a clue, I'm not completely stupid either. I recognize that, "Washington,"has become more pro party that pro American. That "Washington," is embroiled in a power play that has become detrimental to the things of the betterment of America.
So, in this vein, it needs to be fixed, and quickly. I appreciate that both candidates have acknowledged that there is a problem, but neither have articulated a specific problem nor how they would go about fixing the same.
Our only recourse to this confusing miasma is to contact our representatives. To ask for an explanation of and to ultimately express our endorsement, or not, of the issue. It's much more effective that complaining/campaigning on this website.

During the Republican primaries, his opponents drove him further and further to the far right to get the nomination, then accused him of "flip-flopping." Now there is just too much distance for him, with too little time, to get back to the middle, where he needs to be to win the election.

(oh, and for the record, I HATED Bush, don't think he won his first election fairly, and saw him as a disaster on all counts except one..... Bush was NOT a racist. He put first Powell and then Rice in one of our nation's highest positions, opening the door for Obama's presidency.
