Polls: Obama ahead in Colorado, Iowa and Wisconsin

Kevin Lamarque / Reuters

President Barack Obama shakes hands after holding a round table discussion with first time voters at OMG Burger in Miami on Sept. 20, 2012.

President Barack Obama leads Mitt Romney in Colorado, Iowa and Wisconsin, reaching the key 50 percent support threshold in all three battlegrounds, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist polls of these states.

In both Colorado and Wisconsin, Obama is ahead by 5 points among likely voters (including those leaning toward a candidate), 50 percent to 45 percent.

And in Iowa, the president’s edge over Romney is 8 points, 50 percent to 42 percent.

Read the Colorado poll results here (.pdf)

Among a wider sample of registered voters, Obama’s lead is even larger – 6 points in Colorado, 8 in Wisconsin and 11 in Iowa.

While Obama still hasn't closed the deal, says Marist College pollster Lee Miringoff, “The advantage is his in all three states.”

He adds, “It is very important in an election when you start closing in on 50 [percent]. In politics that is a big number.”

The results from these new polls are similar to the NBC/WSJ/Marist surveys of Florida, Ohio and Virginia that were released last week. Those showed Obama ahead in all three battlegrounds. And they’re consistent with this week’s national NBC/WSJ poll (conducted by different pollsters) that found Obama up by 5 points among likely voters, 50 percent to 45 percent.

Romney’s favorability vs. Obama’s
These new surveys – conducted after the political firestorm over last week’s attacks on U.S. embassies in Libya and Egypt, and during the melee over a leaked video of Romney talking about the “47 percent” of Americans who are dependent on government and believe they are victims – also show the Republican’s favorability rating in an unenviable place.

Reuters, Getty Images

In the final push in the 2012 presidential election, candidates Mitt Romney and Barack Obama make their last appeals to voters.

A plurality of likely voters view Romney in a negative light in all three states. In Colorado, it’s 43 percent favorable to 50 percent unfavorable; in Iowa, it’s 42 percent to 50 percent; and in Wisconsin, it’s 43 percent to 46 percent.

By contrast, out of last week’s polls in Florida, Ohio and Virginia, just one of them – Ohio – found Romney’s favorable/unfavorable rating under water.

Read the Wisconsin poll results here (.pdf)

Meanwhile, Obama’s favorable/unfavorable scores in Colorado (51 percent to 45 percent), Iowa (53 percent to 42 percent), and Wisconsin (51 percent to 44 percent) are all above water.

Romney casts himself as 'change' candidate in seizing on Obama comment

Yet the president’s job approval rating in these states is a bit lower – 47 percent in Colorado, 48 percent in Wisconsin, and 49 percent in Iowa.

Tied on the economy
According to these polls, Obama and Romney are essentially battling to a tie on the question of which candidate would do a better job in handling the economy. In Wisconsin, 46 percent of likely voters pick Romney, while 45 percent select Obama.

But in Colorado, the president gets 48 percent, and the GOP nominee gets 46 percent. And in Iowa, Obama is up by four points, 47 percent to 43 percent.

Read the Iowa poll results here (.pdf)

Yet when it comes to which candidate would do a better job on foreign policy, the president enjoys a double-digit advantage in all three states.

Other notable numbers

  • In Republican running mate Paul Ryan’s home state of Wisconsin, his favorable/unfavorable score among likely voters is 49 percent to 40 percent (versus 51 percent to 44 percent for Obama, 43 percent to 46 percent for Romney, and 42 percent to 45 percent for Vice President Joe Biden).
  • In Wisconsin’s competitive Senate contest, Democrat Tammy Baldwin gets support from 48 percent of likely voters, and Republican Tommy Thompson gets 46 percent.
  • Obama is ahead among independents in all three states – by 1 point in Wisconsin, 10 points in Iowa and 11 points in Colorado.
  • And there’s a significant gender gap in these three states, with the president up by double digits among women and with Romney slightly ahead among men.

The NBC/WSJ/Marist polls were conducted Sept. 16-18 of 971 likely voters in Colorado (which has a margin of error of plus-minus 3.1 percentage points), 898 likely voters in Iowa (plus-minus 3.3 percentage points) and 968 likely voters in Wisconsin (plus-minus 3.2 percentage points).

NBC's Domenico Montanaro and Chris Cillizza discuss on MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell Reports Mitt Romney's new moderate tone and new battleground polls showing an advantage for President Barack Obama.

About a quarter of all likely voters in these three states were interviewed by cell phone.

NBC’s Natalie Cucchiara contributed to this report.

Even the "new Mitt" unveiled last night on the Hispanic TV channel, Univision, is coming off as a rather clumsy attempt to try and humanize this man. Now, when he gets back in front of the "red meat" crowd in some rural area, he'll turn into the other Mitt, again.

I think writing Gov. Romney off is a little premature. Remember there are the debates, and Gov. Romney could surprise quite a few people and turn things to his favor. I'm NOT advocating for either, but I'm just pointing out that it's way too early to be sticking a fork in either of them.

NBC, CBS, ABC and MSNBC polls have been oversampling Democratic voters and minimizing weighted averages of Republican voters. It doesn’t matter because here is the thing, no matter how one cooks the numbers, Romney is well within a comfortable striking range and there are still 55 days before the elections! And unless the media has learned how to make about ten great big white elephants disappear in front of a national electorate, there are still 23 million unemployed Americans in the U.S., we still have a $16 trillion national debt, a $1.3 trillion budget deficit, a Medicare system headed for insolvency, an economy headed for a fiscal cliff in January, a foreign policy that has imploded and gone up in smoke all over the world to the point that our enemies no longer fear us and our enemies no longer trust us. No matter how much the media attempts to distract or divert public attention away from the Obama record and no matter how many excuses Obama makes, no matter how many fingers Obama points at the dismal economy he inherited, the Bush Administration, at Congress, at two guys that made an offensive movie about the prophet Mohamed, at the end of the day, not even the press nor a misguided liberal media will be capable of running block for the president. There are still three debates and the history of Reagan defeating Jimmy Carter and Clinton defeating George Bush Sr. when the primary issue was a bad U.S. economy, demonstrates the overall collective wisdom of the American people.

Just another phony poll. If they are correct then it means that people are getting dumb and dumber.

Consider that not one dem can list anything that Obama has done to improve the economic situation in this country. Sure, you've got some that say he's saved the country from collapse. But, none of those people can say what he's done to save the country. Quite frankly these people shouldn't be allowed to vote as it is clear that they either aren't using their brains or they don't have brains.

Of course, there is the other fact that the DNC media has been reporting that the recession ended in June of 2009, thanks to Obama and the stimulus bill. So, things have been on the upswing since then, or so we are led to believe. Yet, today the same DNC media are reporting that the economy has "bottomed out." So, we've been in a recovery for 3 years and yet we've just bottomed out. I'm sure those who are voting for Obama can make sense out of it, but for anyone who has a brain and can think logically, it makes no sense at all, other than the obvious that the DNC media has been lying from the get go, which is the case. But, hey, let's vote for Obama because....... well, I don't want a lib, who has nothing better to go on, to accuse me of being racist. After all, no one could possibly disagree with the ONE.

Daniel, I know you guys have an issue with Arithmetic/matematics but you see in order for any sample (poll) to be accurate it has to matematically represent the population it purports to measure. Subsequently, there is this problem, the general populace has more democrats than republicans in it's makeup. So the poll ends up with more dems than repubs but it is also balanced again by the tendency of a greater percentage of republicans to vote than dems. Your real worry should be pointed at whether the dems turn out in high numbers. Not how the pollsters set up their polls. They want to be accurate, they don't care about your ideology but rather the math thing helps them represent the "universe" they intend to study. Sorry but I guess you will have to get over it and try to stop more people from voting. As to the debates, all I can say is HaHaHa Ha Ha Ha.

I'm not implying that he'll do well in the debates. I'm just saying that he might (just maybe) have his 'moment' and people might connect with his message, whatever that may be. Most people don't have time to keep tabs on what each candidate is saying / doing on a daily basis, unlike the people on the vine. But many Americans WILL look at the debates as their way of making their final decision. The electorate can be fickle.

On a side note, I fall into the 47% that he feels are 'victims'. Raising 3 kids with a stay-at-home mom (by our choice) puts me in that category. I was offended, considering we don't get govt. aid and aren't looking for a handout.

Polls used to be fairly accurate, until some highly biased media outlets started 'playing with the numbers'.

NBC is one of the worst in this regard - oversampling about 30% more Democrats than Republicans in order to give the false impression that Obama is ahead. If they used the most current surveys of 'Party Affiliation', they would actually show Romney with a slight lead - but of course that would not play into their 'Romney is desperate and Obama is in control' narrative.

By the way - Marist has about the worst record for accuracy of any of the 12 major pollsters included in the Realclearpolitics average of polls for the 2004 and 2008 elections - overstating the Democrat by an average of about 3%. Rasmussen had the best accuracy - missing by an average of only 1% without any bias. Gallup also had a poor record - missing by over 3% with a Democratic bias. Others with nearly a 3% average error - always biased towards the Democrat, included Reuters and, surprisingly - Fox News.

That is only if you want to see our children GET FATTER AND MORE AND MORE BEHIND THE REST OF THE COUNTRY IN EDUCATION.

Already SCHOOL BUDGETS ARE SO STRESSED WITH ALL THE CUTS THAT THE Republicans have made to Education, that schools are FORCED to serve French fries and BREAD for Breakfast. They have NO CHOICE.

Mitt Romney has promised to cut teacher's salaries and increase the number of student in the classrooms. What this MORON does not know, is that the schools are REALLY stressed to the max already.

Children that count on the school to have a nutritious breakfast ARE JUST PARASITES, ACCORDING TO ROMNEY. I AM SURE THAT Ann Romney WOULD HAVE STARTED TO work IF HER 5 SONS DID NOT HAVE A CHEF PREPARING SPECIAL MEALS FOR HER, AND HER CHILDREN. oH! Gallup says even steven: 47-47. I guess Gallup is going to get a phone call from the Obamaczar White House telling them to "rethink" their polling data.

Carter was ahead of Reagan just weeks prior to the election, but the debates when Ronnie put that idiot Carter in his place swayed the thinking Americans to vote their conscious. Too bad today this nation is much more full of idiots than back in 1980 when that other president failed us domestically and internationally. We get the leader we deserve. That's why the thinking Americans are figuring out their exit strategies should Obama get re-elected...including exiting the nation in retirement. New Zealand is looking pretty sweet. I can start a business there no problem.

You know when Romney said the 47% who pay no taxes are Obama supporters, I guess he forgot all those American troops overseas in COMBAT ZONES (he know's nothing of those), pay no federal income tax, and, even I doubt they are all President Obama supporters.

Don't be ridiculous. RETIREES and MILITARY are NOT included in the MOOCHER class, liberal. And learn how to spell "know's" next time. You'll at least look a little smarter. You clowns are just looking more desparate every day. See you Obamazombies in November when my vote cancels out your vote! Obama doesn't even know what the freaking DEFICIT is according to what he said on Letterman (much more important for him to go on talk shows than meet with Israel's leaders in a CRISIS).

The Quote of the Decade:
"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, "the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."~ Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006

@tonybeeerm

no, I think most people are very well informed these days. And the closer it gets to the election, the more vocal they become.

For everyone's sake, I really hope you're right and I'm wrong. I really mean that. I just have a hard time believing this is the case when I see some of the outrageous accusations about both candidates. You have to really wonder; involved doesn't mean informed. I consider myself informed, because I actually take the time to confirm/ refute some of the claims made about either candidate. Hell, I've even gone to both of their web sites and looked at their positions.

My main concern isn't whether President Obama is re-elected. It's congress and the senate. i don't want to see 4 more years of 'nothing happening', because congress and the senate WON'T work with the president. I view America as the human body: everything in moderation. No extremes. We ARE and will continue to be a great nation of people. We (collectively) have somehow lost our way of working together for the better of everyone. I'm only one vote, but I plan to do my part.

I wonder if anyone won the presidency while still losing not only HIS state and the one he was governor of and the one his car elevator is in, but the state of the wannabe VEEP? I wonder if the repubs remember all their celebrating the fact Gore lost his home state? 55 more days for etch-a-sketch to shake it up, but remember, an etch-a-sketch is a temporary art form.

Swallow-2813582 "Daniel, I know you guys have an issue with Arithmetic/matematics but you see in order for any sample (poll) to be accurate it has to matematically represent the population it purports to measure."

Therein lies the problem with some polls. For a Liberal news pollster to say that there are 10% to 13% more people who self-identify as Democrats than Republicans defies logic. Even in 2008, when there were a record number of self-identified Democrats and record low for Republicans, their lead was only 7% (39% vs 32% for Republicans). Recent surveys show that Republicans now have a slight advantage (37.6% Republicans vs 33.3% Democrats - and the 2010 blowout by Republicans in the 2010 mid-terms tends to confirm this), so dramatically oversampling Democrats is a severe distortion, and since it is happening all of the time with Liberal media driven polls, one has to ask "Is it just 'chance', or is it deliberate distortion?"

A 10% oversampling distortion would create a false Obama lead of 8% (exit polls in 2004 and 2008 confirm that 90% of party affiliated voters vote party line). If Obama has only a 5% lead in these distorted polls, then it's quite possible that Romney has REAL lead of about 3%.

I know what you're talking about, but Congress is a harder problem to solve. Everyone says, "Throw the bums out!", but, of course, the bums they are talking about are someone else's Congressmen which those people might happen to like and will vote for. To them, it's your Congressman who is the bum.

Jhawke "Gallup says even steven: 47-47"

Interesting, isn't it?

Here's some other scary information for Obama - Gallup is polling Registered voters, which overstates the Democrat by an average of about 4% (see link). Also, since Gallup shows a 7 day moving average, and Obama was well ahead among Gallup's Registered voters just a few days ago, that means that Obama's current number must be below that 47%.

One other thing to keep in mind about Gallup - they have a poor track record of consistently OVERSTATING the Democrat's strength - by an average of 3.05% for 2004 and 2008.

Romney no longer leads in even a single poll:

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/general_election_romney_vs_obama-1171.html

And for those of you chanting "Obama is Carter", let me remind you that the ONLY way Reagan won that election was by stealing Carter's debate prep book and using it to cheat in their single debate - held one week before the election.

    Don't you remember?

George Will's approach has been questioned in a few exceptional cases. During the 1980 campaign, he drew fire when it was learned he'd secretly coached Republican candidate Ronald Reagan for a debate with President Jimmy Carter using a debate briefing book stolen from the Carter campaign. Immediately following the debate, Will appeared on Nightline (10/28/80) to praise Reagan's "thoroughbred performance," never disclosing his role in rehearsing that performance (New York Times, 7/9/83).

There's no way in hell Reagan could ever have pulled off that performance without knowing what Carter would say in advance. But Carter made a mistake in scheduling only one debate, held a week before the election.

    And the rest is history.

Better hope Mitt has Obama's debate book!

Both parties have been co-opted by big money. Obama is like a dog that has been trained to fetch for his master. Romney is like a dog that has been trained to rip out throats for his master.

Im not too thrilled with the Obama administration's obvious corpratocracy-governing, but it is corporatocracy lite with the DEMs. There IS a lesser of two evils here.

I have listened to Celente rag on people who will vote for Obama with a lesser-of-two-evils mindset. Celente says that these people have no self respect. What Celente refuses to deal with is reality. If people stay home and dont vote in some deluded idea of sending a message, the only message that the power-crowd will get is that we have given a "mandate" to the Republicans, who would then end up winning because all of their crowd will vote because they cant see this country dissolve into neofeudalism fast enough. Sadly, without serious revolt from the masses, that is where we are headed. The real question we answer now by voting, is whether we want to take the slow-boat there, or the express train.

In a nutshell, it will be a cold day in Kolob before I vote for Romney.

but that doesn't mean we will turn this Titanic around. Its heading for the ice regardless. In a strange way, perhaps if Romney won, then when this whole ultracapitalist mess hits the glacier , the Repubs would be forever tagged as the undoubted cause of it. Its coming either way.

But then I think - these Republicans are cynical and amoral - and the CEOs (who are almost all repubs) would miraculously start hiring like crazy if Romney won, to give an artificial goose to the economy to bamboozle the people that republican governments cause strong economies. I do believe that the economic issues are being exacerbated here by a capitalist system the power of which lies largely with republicans. I do believe there is an organized effort to NOT hire to make this president look bad.

Either way, you are all witnessing the end-results of the greed-is-good amoral philosophy of capitalism. Every form of governance is vulnerable to corruption and dysfunction. American capitalism has become riddled with corruption (which was bound to happen with the greed-is-good philosophy). It IS failing.

Even so, I am not letting the dog that will rip my throat out into the White House, if I can help it.

Cold day in Kolob if Romney gets into the White House now, and God help Obama in the next 4 years... People arent going to stand for much more corporate largesse, and the DEMs are far from blameless.

Jhawke, I suggest you know what you're talking about before you say something stupid, oh wait it's too late. Service members deployed to a war zone do not pay any taxes, that puts them in the 47%. Since I have family and friends that were in war zones numerous times I think I know what I'm talking about.

What I don't get about Romney supporters is are they in a hole? do they not see how terrible this man is at foreign policy, his campaign is poorly run which is a reflection on how he would run the country, he has yet to tell us what he would do except increase the debt by $4 trillion with tax cuts and increased spending. What is known about his plan experts have proven will not work. Here is a suggestion, turn off fox, rush and all the other idiots and think for yourselves. I'm tired of hearing "facts" from conservatives that I can quickly prove to be false with non partisan sources with facts.

BTW those of you who think it's a close race, stop looking at the national polls, the state polls are more accurate, and it's the electorit that matters. The polls have gone way up since Romneys 47% speech.

I do not think that the advantage of Obama last long, once demonstrated his incompetence in the handling of foreign policy, denying facts to protect himself from the embarrassment of his failure in the Middle East. The death of Osama has not stopped to AlQaeda, only reaffirms how wrong that was Obama in his relationship with the Muslims. The Arab spring is a failure as well he is.

But he won't, because he knows anything can happen, because he needs to continue lying about how "good" is the economy, because he needs to continue lying about his success in foreign policy, when the Middle East is in flames, and Muslims shouting, Obama, Obama, we are all Osama. Reasonable

Obama has to beat Romney silly before the debates. That is why the left campaign is Romney might as well through in the towel is showered upon us, and the polls are run to show him winning even though he is actually flopping in most areas of responsiblilty.

Even during the 2008 there were rarely polls reaching 10 points in disagreement. I'm seeing 10 + points sway in many states. It all has to do with sampling.

You two most consistently correct pollsters are Rasmussen & Gallup. Rasmussen works on the likely voter side. They do an extensive monthly poll of 3000 - 5000 registered voters to determine what mix of voters is going to vote. This is the results for August. People seeing themselves as Republicans is now over 37.6% and democrat as 33.3%.

    http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/mood_of_america/partisan_trends

Now, compare that to the majority of polls being run, they are using 5 - 13 points more democrats than republicans.

Gallup's tracking survey follows actual party registrations. Last month there was another company that found that in the 10 swing states, Republican registrations were down 79,000 and democrat registrations were down 800,000. This makes the 5 - 13% more democrat voters a total farce, but that is what the polling companies are doing.

Why? 79% of the news media is registered democrats and from following up on the polling companies, about 75% of them are owned by democrats.

Wait until the last week or last couple of days before the election. Then and only then will the poll companies switch to the reality of what really is happening.

I don't know about you, but I hate when people try to tell me what to think. So I am pretty immune to being outnumbered in reading opinions. If we care about our country, we need not forget the loyalties of those who are feeding us news, and poll results.

realamericanfirst: funny things about graphs, they lie. Now according to what you have there approximately 3 million people are employed in the private sector now than were employed when Obama took office. But, a funny thing happened on the way to the market, according to the Dept. of Labor figures there were 142,187,000 employed in the private sector. Now according to the Dept. of Labor, there were 142,101,000 employed in the private sector as of the end of August this year. Last I knew, 142,101,000 is less than 142,187,000 by 119,086. You need to look at the facts, even as put out by the Obama administration to get to the truth. We all know that these figures are guestimates to begin with, but you'd think that if they were making up numbers they'd at least make up numbers that support their position. http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/surveymost

That's why sane people are voting for Mitt Romney.

You can not borrow your way out of a financial disaster. Which you will see very soon.

You di not here this part of what Romney said the other day while talking about the people Obama has stuck in a corner with welfare and food stamps.

BTW Romney will not take anyones welfare check away. What he will do is fix the economy so that check will continue to come. America is on the verge of bankrupcy and the checks to everyone will stop when that happens.

If the second credit down grade the other day did help you figure it out well you deserve what Obama is about to do to you and the rest of America.

This is what Mitt Romney said is the biggest problem in our country and what he says about the Federal Reserve.

“Yeah, it’s interesting…the former head of Goldman Sachs, John Whitehead, was also the former head of the New York Federal Reserve. And I met with him, and he said as soon as the Fed stops buying all the debt that we’re issuing—which they’ve been doing, the Fed’s buying like three-quarters of the debt that America issues. He said, once that’s over, he said we’re going to have a failed Treasury auction, interest rates are going to have to go up. We’re living in this borrowed fantasy world, where the government keeps on borrowing money. You know, we borrow this extra trillion a year, we wonder who’s loaning us the trillion? The Chinese aren’t loaning us anymore. The Russians aren’t loaning it to us anymore. So who’s giving us the trillion? And the answer is we’re just making it up. The Federal Reserve is just taking it and saying, “Here, we’re giving it.’ It’s just made up money, and this does not augur well for our economic future.

You know, some of these things are complex enough it’s not easy for people to understand, but your point of saying, bankruptcy usually concentrates the mind.”

Economists are warning it is just around the corner. Obamas policies and spending are taking us there at a high rate of speed.

Don't stop at not voting for Romney. If we want our country back we must stop the take-over by the extreme right by not voting for any Republicans in this cycle. If this election is such a landslide for Democrats, who are still true Americans, we can stop the slide of the conservative side toward the un-american tea party advocates. We need an alternative, and the way to get a legitimate alternative is to completely eliminate the bought and paid for, illiterate and unthinking, completely irrational tea party as the alternative. We need someone of character to stand up on the right, not the likes of Newt Gingrich and Michelle Bachmann, or (gagg) the erstwhile queen of the north.

Believe'n..... Sorry but the only people loosing in the election this year are the Obama haters and republicons, as it's obvious by your posts that you know as much about Romney as Romney knows about the average American voter: NOTHING!!! I've got a big box of Kleenex and depends for all of you right-wing cry babies. After we elect Obama AGAIN, will you whiners finally get out of the way of progress and let the adults start repairing what you morons crushed during 8 years of having it your way? We've had enough of your OBSTRUCTION and FAILURE to do anything in CONGRESS.

VOTE A STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC TICKET THIS YEAR AND REMOVE AS MANY REPUBLICANS FROM OFFICE AS POSSIBLE!!!! THEY ARE ALL THE SAME AND THEY HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING TO HELP THIS COUNTRY FOR THE LAST 11.5 YEARS!!!

Romney made his money from destroying jobs in this country, and ship them out to China. He also made his money firing people, then rehiring them, at lower wages, then sticking the newly acquired company with huge debts, and taking whatever money, to give to himself and investors. Romney made his money by STEALING it.

I also feel sorry for our country because so many people are making such important decisions based on ignorance and lies. Care to give an example of what you were describing? I read the breakdown on the Colorado poll, and it wasn't weighted to give any advantage to Democrats.I read that crap all the time. But more importantly I urge everyone that canto vote in the early voting. And avoid the crowds on Nov.6th. But if you can't then get out and vote on Nov.6th. Polls or no polls, this election isn't over. The Republicans can still try to steal the election, and the vote of everyone of you counts to stop them.Voting is one freedom that all Americans share. So do your duty as an American and vote. Your vote counts as much as the vote of any 1%'er.

Obama is ahead among independents in all three states – by 1 point in Wisconsin, 10 points in Iowa and 11 points in Colorado.

That kinda puts the kibosh on the Tea Party's claim that independents will not vote for Obama.

                tony,

Do you think Romney's superpac guys are thinking of spending more millions to get him a uptick in these states?

I am thinking maybe not.... they will let him sink or swim with his debate preformance.

Maybe they are already being talked to by some folks for 2016.

Northstar...interesting thought. They may indeed cut their losses and dump a huge amount of money in the Senate races. They're going to have to get cracking though...the election is coming up fast. I noticed with the House races, they're being much more selective this time.... more money but more selective.

northstar - me thinks those financial backers are going to start looking real hard at the figures and begin to wonder how much longer they want to back a dead horse. After all, they didn't get to where they are by throwing money down the gutter. I would dearly love to be a fly on the wall at some of those behind closed doors meetings. LOL, i'll bet the language used is pretty intense.

Most have already jumped ship. They are focusing on congressional elections now in an attempt to continue obstructing progress for 4 more years.

Wallstreet has shifted from Romney to backing Obama (so they can have favors when hes re-elected), which I find deplorable but its what they do.

All that is left is debates, Which is the presidents strong point so I can see why the money is betting on Obama. Still, shame the Republicans can't get back to being what they used to be. They have let Fox News and the teaparty destroy the core values they once stood for. I am forced to choose between a president who will only look out for the rich, destroying the middle class and ruining our quality of life, or one that can't get congress to work with him (even if I don't wholly blame Obama for that, the first 2 years he could not even reign in his own party).

Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes."

I have no doubt that the Republican party does not want Romeny to win. They would rather nothing get done for the next 4 years than to have someone in the White house who they can't control. Romney doesn't follow the party, he does change his views based on whats popular with the masses, but once in office he would be in charge not them.

You can't tell me that a campaign can be run this bad, that his handlers can't do better than what they are. They don't want him to win so they can get one of their men in office in 2016, after all they never wanted Romney nominated in the first place and the Clint Eastwood fiasco was part of the sabotage

It's only been the top network news program for the last 30 years, or whenever Walter Cronkite retired. But don't let facts get in the way.

And if Simon Cowell was an American, he'd make a better presidential candidate than Mitt Romney, lol! Hell, for that matter, so would Paula Abdul.

You can always go to the FOX blogs. Plenty of people there that agree with you. Their blogs are stupid and poorly created.

                      Perfect for the GOP audience!!!!!

oh yeah DB? Really... have you ever heard of Rasmussen Polling before? The self-professed best conservative election poll stats organization there is? In fact they like to tout that they predicted a George W Bush win over John Kerry all the way through. Well guess what pal? Rasmussen has President Obama over Mitt by 2+. The rest of the polls show as much as 8+, and none of them have Mitt ahead. Including your precious Fox!

                              my turn wi

actually the use of independents vary from state to state. Sometimes they oversample independents when the independents trend in their favor their point, and other times they way undersample independent, when the independents don't favor their point.

You can actually alter the poll by polling weaker and stronger partisan areas of a state to throw the results too. The polling company can do that with race too. Example: If you want to make Obama look better in Florida, you can avoid polling in predominantly cuban hispanic areas, because they tend to vote republican. If the trend is solid republican in the hispanic areas, the thing to do would be undersample hispanics in favor of white americans or african americans.

Forest Girl. I watched the video and I wonder why this seems so significant to you. This guy does not claim to be an historian and sites his point of view based on what? One could suppose you're predisposed to this slant but there's nothing but opinion being expressed here. My opinion is that as the population continues to grow out of control, socialism (its already here darlin') will continue to rear its necessary head in order to keep complete chaos from taking over. There's only a limited amount of earth and resources and this system channels the greatest amount of that to the wealthy and powerful. Then they appeal to your fear to keep their status. That's humanity dear, for better or worse. Willard's world is the world we all imagine we'll live in some day but not in your or my lifetime, I guess. I call that myth and many seem to buy it. Thats the Romney/Republican base.

Considering the way the GOP/TP/Neo-Fascist Party is crashing and burning right now, in a few months there may only be one political party left to represent the American people. Where is the once-mighty GOP and when will they return to a more centrist position and give up on the right wing lunatic fringe? It has discredited them and it has alienated most Americans.

I'm not buying it. Obama has my vote, but mostly because Romney is such a horrible candidate and person. The only thing he can successfully tout is Romneycare (we got that, thanks) and his business experience (which is just a @!$%#ton of shady practices that screwed Americans out of jobs while he picked them clean like a vulture. So, 0 for 2.)

But Democrats had congress for 2 years. No, not a supermajority but enough of a majority that it should have been easy to buy out a few republicans on any issue and get it through. Yet they bickered and stalled on healthcare, each trying to get an earmark in there for themselves. Essentially, NOTHING got done those 2 years save healthcare. Which is why teabaggers got elected.

TLDR: Nothing will change for the better. All we can hope for is to maintain current standards.

Caesar...you're starting to sound nervous. Could it be that you are beginning to see what the Republican party has degenerated into? The party of Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and even Ronald Reagan no longer exists. The conservative party which counterbalanced the progressive party is gone. Gone are the days where members of Congress could disagree with one another but still come to a compromise in order to enrich the lives of Americans and defend the Nation. When the United States Government is attacked by a presidential candidate over an act of terrorism, before the Government has had a chance to issue a statement...that's beyond the pale. That's politics over Country. When the Senior Republican in the United States Senate states their number one priority is to cause the President to fail...that's beyond the pale. When Congressional members voluntarily sign an agreement with a lobbyist limiting their options to govern this Nation, for their own political advantage...that's beyond the pale. When corporations are granted more rights than American Citizens...that's beyond the pale.

Republicans speak of wealth redistribution as though it's something possible if Democrats get their way. Why wasn't it wealth redistribution when the top tax rates were reduced under Reagan and under GW Bush? That was the effect you know...redistribution of wealth to the top moneymakers. Why would you believe that when all is said and done, the American People would even consider voting for supply-side economics on steroids. The only thing to trickle down to the middle-class in the last 30 years has been warm, wet and yellow. It's time to bring back the Clinton tax rates at least. Better still would be the rates under Dwight D. Eisenhower.

I did not expect the bickering when democrats held congress. The chances of retaking the majority of congress is almost non existent for 2 more years.

You have a lot of rich democrats but most of them keep their money to themselves. while Republican invest and produce jobs. just look around you how many new construction do you see. or think back when a Republican in office how many new construction did you see.

Why didn't you expect bickering within the Democratic Party. We've always been extremely independent (at least compared to the Republicans). The only fairly independent Republican I can even think of at the moment is Olympia Snow...and she's leaving. Leading Democrats is like herding cats...leading Republicans is telling them which direction to march.

                                Google "conservative brain" sometime.

Will it matter who he blames the mess on? Facts show he is steadily improving our country since he took over. The only area of any concern is national debt. Seeing as no republican president has ever concerned themselves with that (for example, Regan spent more than every president before him COMBINED. Essentially he is the start of what we have today. Then lets not even talk about those unfunded wars coupled with historic tax cuts.), I would not expect a democrat to either.

Aw come on. Romney had his hand in destroying America, looting companies and then sending their manufacturing to communist China. Borrowing money on the companies assets, skimming off the top and then forcing the company into bankruptcy. This is a hard act to follow for anyone else destroying America.

Right now the America destroyers don't seem to be getting any traction.

Interesting how the national polls are showing Obama's post-convention bounce fading (today's Gallup poll of Registered Voters has them tied again). Perhaps it'll be reverse of the 2000 election - Romney wins popular vote, but Obama wins electoral. Hmmm, Jerry Brown may be sorry he's pledged California's electoral votes to whomever wins the popular vote...

The way the electoral map is shaping up, Obama could clinch the election by ONLY winning the toss-up states of Ohio and Iowa.. or only winning Florida by itself.

More good news for Obama: Romney says he's going to increase his public appearances! The more we hear him talk, the better for the president. What an inept campaign..

It is safe to say he lost Ohio by a large margin. I expect the next polls to be double digit, since John Glenn has officially endorsed Obama. For the record, he gave McCain a 5 point boost when he endorsed him last year. The old people and the military of Ohio revere John Glenn.

Florida would surprise me if it turned out blue. With all the crap that went on in 2004 I just can not expect that state to be free of ill-doings come counting time.

A Comprehensive List Of Obama's Worst Executive Orders

JUNE 15, 2012 BY LAURIE ROTH

There have been over 900 Executive Orders put forth from Obama, and he is not even through his first term yet. He is creating a martial law 'Disney Land' of control covering everything imaginable. Some of the executive orders he has signed recently have been exposed thanks to 'Friends of Conservative Action Alerts.' They have compiled a choice list of 'Emergency Powers, Martial law executive orders': Get your headache medication out while you still can without a prescription.

                                          * Executive Order 10990 allows the Government to take over all modes of transportation and control of highways and seaports.

                                          * Executive Order 10995 allows the government to seize and control the communication media.

                                          * Executive Order 10997 allows the government to take over all electrical power, gas, petroleum, fuels, and minerals.

                                          * Executive Order 11000 allows the government to mobilize civilians into work brigades under government supervision.

                                          * Executive Order 11001 allows the government to take over all health education and welfare functions.

                                          * Executive Order 11002 designates the Postmaster General to operate a national registration of all persons.

                                          * Executive Order 11003 allows the government to take over all airports and aircraft, including commercial aircraft.

                                          * Executive Order 11004 allows the Housing and Finance Authority to relocate and establish new locations for populations.

                                          * Executive Order 11005 allows the government to take over railroads, inland waterways, and public storage facilities.

                                          * Executive Order 11049 assigns emergency preparedness function to federal departments and agencies, consolidating 21 operative Executive Orders issued over a fifteen-year period.

                                          * Executive Order 11051 specifies the responsibility of the Office of Emergency Planning and gives authorization to put all Executive Orders into effect in times of increased international tensions and economic or financial crisis.

                                          * Executive Order 11310 grants authority to the Department of Justice (NOTE: that's Fast and Furious Eric Holder!) to enforce the plans set out in Executive Orders, to institute Industrial support, to establish judicial and legislative liaison, to control all aliens, to operate penal and correctional institutions, and to advise and assist the President.

                                          * Executive Order 11921 allows the Federam Emergency Preparedness Agency to develop plans to establish control over the mechanisms of production and distribution of energy sources, wages, salaries, credit, and the flow of money in U.S. financial institutions in any undefined national emergency. It also provides that when the president declares a state of emergency.Congress cannot review the action for six months.

It is more than clear that Obama is planning for the total control and takeover of America via Martial Law. Food, energy, transportation, work, banking, and health: he has it covered.

While Obama is busy pulling executive orders out of the sky to control everything inside our country, he has been issuing executive orders to force us to submit to international regulations instead of our Constitution.

Sher Zieve exposed this in one of her recent articles. Damn the U.S. Constitution, damn the American people and damn U.S. sovereignty.

You dont care at all that the government can take away pretty much ALL of your freedoms on a whim? I hope they do, just for you, so you can restate that comment then

Since WWII, the government has reserved the powers to declare martial law and there is nothing new contained in those orders. The right wing lunatic fringe is just banging an old, busted drum.

And that cut-and-paste definitely came from NobodyGivesa@!$%#.com. It's meaningless and irrelevant and the American people doesn't care about it. I mean, damn.

Shaun - we can only hope! But, I think we'll keep the Senate (with a larger majority); keep the White House; and take back some of the House. Don't know that we can actually get the majority in the House. It may take until the mid-term elections to do that. I think people will get so tired of the Republicans blocking progress they'll kick them to the curb then!

SeekingSanity...I believe you are right. I feel confident that we will get the senate we need to move things forward, the house remains a cesspool of ignorance but I can see that changing, likely see it happen by mid term elections.

My fondest dream is a majority in both the house and senate.

I do want to give those red states something to consider...as they are so set against redistribution, I propose a law be enacted that limits a state to receive only what they put in. Wonder how those red states could remain red for long. Blue has always been my favorite color anyway. Red represents a fire that Jack Black has to put out with his "fire hose" (from the Gulliver movie).

Now Romney is calling the states that are the most dependant on Government Welfare, scroungers and non-producers.That is also the Red States. Are the New Right Wing Republican/Tea Party considering attempting to try to trade off their states for our Democratic ones?

Unless there is a huge turnover in the House, even if Obama wins it will just be another 2 years of what we've had the last two years...absolutely nothing.

Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided. See daily tracking history.

What they forgot to tell you is the fact that Chris Matthews was the person counting the votes. Ed Schultz verified it. Mind you, of the first 100 calls, whenever someone identified themselves as a Republican supporter, Chris forgot to count the first 50 Republican supporters. Also, as Matthews felt it was just, he automaticcally gave 45% of the vote to Obama because he felt it was the right thing to do. If you believe the polls, you're delusional. You can hide the facts that there was no security for the US ambassador that was murdered last week. You can hide the fact that it was an al Qaeda mission. You can make up the numbers all you want. But in the end America will not reelect Barrack HUSSEIN Obama. To you Obama supporters, we here in Canada want to thank you for helping our dollar increase 35% in value compared to yours since ObamaNation came to be. Enjoy your food stamps America. You're always welcome to come to Canada to HOPE for some spare CHANGE. What a clueless bunch.

I highly doubt you are Canuck Jonathan, as I have many friends who really are... all across Canada. And NONE of them would say anything nearly as stupid as you just did. Good luck with the lies pal... maybe you can convince your tea-bagging friends and relatives you are from the Great White North. lol

metoo and lee should probably study how the German people were turned against the Jews in the 1930's and then understand exactly what Karl Rove and Fox have done to you. I will say it - you are both acting like thoughtless nazis.

Americans are the most profficent workers in the world.

We just tend to want more than 1 dollar an hour for our time. Chinese goods are not worth the near worthless materials they are crafted from. It is a vicious cycle of our pay not rising, coupled with outsourcing, forcing us to have to buy the cheap chinese @!$%# because we can't afford better long lasting American stuff. After 2 uses it breaks and we need a new one. Thus the demand for cheap crap continues to grow.

But those top CEO's still get paid insane amounts. No doubt they worked harder for it than the millions beneath them who collectively earn less than the one guy at top.

Republicans want to doubledown on giving more power to the corporations, more tax cuts, more civil liberties. Here's what one historical character had to say about that...

"Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of
state and corporate power." - Benito Mussolini.

                                            • Mitt Romney likely win in presidential election shown by three key polls

September 19th, 2012 by Dean Chambers

Rasmussen Reports has released today, three key polls that show Mitt Romney's likely win in this year's presidential election over President Obama. The Rasmussen Reports Presidential Daily Tracking Poll released today shows Romney leading 47 percent to 46 percent over Obama. Rasmussen's Daily Swing State Tracking Poll of 11 key swing states won by President Obama in 2008 shows Romney leading them by the exact same percentages. The latest Rasmussen poll of New Hampshire released today shows Romney leading there 48 percent to 45 percent.

New Hampshire is a key swing state that could make a difference with its four electoral votes, and George W. Bush would have reached 270 electoral voters in 2000 without having won this state. New Hampshire had narrowly favored Obama in many polls over the last few months and while the analysis conduced here by this columnist has consistently predicted Mitt Romney will win the state (based in part on knowledge of local politics in the state having lived in New England for years), most projected have shaded New Hampshire blue and predicted it will go for Obama. This Rasmussen survey is key in that it likely shows movement in New Hampshire in the direction of Mitt Romney.

In the instance of an incumbent president who enjoys just about 100 percent name recognition and is seeking reelection, most of the undecided voters are likely to swing to the challenger by election day. This is especially true when the challenger remains still less known to the public than the incumbent, as is true with former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. By election day, those other nine percent not favoring Romney or Obama in the Rasmussen Daily Tracking poll are likely include less than one percent voting for third party candidates and five or six percent of those nine will likely vote for Mitt Romney. That would indicate a popular vote win by Romney of about 53 percent to 46 percent, or the reverse of Obama's win in 2008. This would lead to an electoral college total of more than 300 electoral votes for Romney.

The 11 swing states tracked by Rasmussen in it's swing state tracking poll show Romney leading 47 percent to 46 percent, where some weeks ago the two candidates were tied at 45 percent in the Rasmussen tracking poll of these 11 key swing states. President Obama won these same states collectively by a 53 percent to 46 percent margin in 2008. Now he is seven percent behind that finish now in these states. Romney is likely to capture most of the undecided votes and could win these states collectively by at least a 52 percent to 47 percent margin. That would likely lead to Romney winning Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin while having a competitive chance in Michigan and Pennsylvania.

If President Obama can only win Michigan and Pennsylvania among those 11 swing states, he can not be reelected to the presidency. As these polls stand today, the election of Mitt Romney as our next president looks likely.

This picture differs with the perception being created by the results of some media-released national polls of the race that are skewed in favor of Obama because the survey results are realized by over-sampling Democrats. Two Democratic pollsters explained this and exposed how these polls are skewed.

All of this polling data also corroborates the UnSkewedPolls.com UnSkewed Average of Polls which today shows Romney leading 7.8 percent over the president. Additionally, the first QStarNews presidential poll reports a somewhat unexpectedly strong Romney lead of 55 percent to 44 percent. The QstarNews poll is the first national poll to be doubly-weighted by party registration and self-described political views (liberal, conservative and moderate) for increased accuracy.

                                            More Good News

                                            From the article above:

In both Colorado and Wisconsin, Obama is ahead by 5 points among likely voters (including those learning toward a candidate), 50 percent to 45 percent.

And in Iowa, the president’s edge over Romney is 8 points, 50 percent to 42 percent.

I think the Governor mis-spoke at his luncheon.

It's not 47 percent, it's 50%, and that is what President Obama is getting consistantly now.

Very good news at this point.

                                            Salud

Check it out my boy. Why shouldn't they get what they paid for and since they also are heavily invested in FOX and the Right Wing they win no matter what. But you're screwed whether it goes right or left. You're screwed top and bottom. You're just plain screwed and they have you dizzy, daffy and screaming for more.

Hey John! Since it appears the cesspool backed up into the gene pool in your family tree, it is no surprise your lack the cognitive abilities to tell the truth or to recognize it when you see it. Consequently, your pointless and incoherent post exists only to embarrass you, your ex-wife, and the children who you can't visit because of the restraining order.

                                              Fail.

I would be more impressed with Daniel's cut and paste efforts,as he desperately tries to find a poll,ANY poll, that meets his standards (i.e.,said poll favors Romney...) if ...

A: ...it weren't for the fact that, with tonight being September the 20,Daniel the Dullard posted (in post #1.14) that there are 55 days left until the election, once again proving that Tea Baggers are so fundamentally stupid that they can't even work a calendar, nor do basic arithmetic.

B:...if it weren't for the fact that the Rasmussen poll, which Tea Baggers and Cons love to quote, also has THESE numbers...

                                              Florida--Rasmussen poll on 9/12: Obama 48% Romney 46%

                                              Ohio--Rasmussen poll on 9/12: Obama 47% Romney 46%

                                              Wisconsin--Rasmussen poll on 9/12: Obama 49% Romney 46%

It seems like when a right leaning polling outfit like Rasmussen has polling data that doesn't fit into poor lil' Daniel's tender head it just doesn't count for much. Or didn't happen.

Myself---I'm not too big on polls. The only one that counts comes on November 6th.

When Romney gets his ass completely and thoroughly kicked in THAT set of polls all of you on the Right and in Bagger Nation can feel free to come in here and bitch, piss and moan about those polls being over-sampled as well.

It's about all you sorry people will have left at that point after all.

Reagan had pulled ahead of Carter by June and had a 15-point lead until the gap narrowed after the Democratic convention in August. But Carter never led after June.

Daniel, how could your lies be true whenever the latest polling data from ALL of the polls show Obama ahead by 2+, all the way up to 8+ points? Try reading before spewing your ilk pal:

                                                http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/general_election_romney_vs_obama-1171.html

besides, you probably don't know more than 3 or so other tea-baggers to ask anything of. People tend to shy away from folks like you. Lies and rumors don't appeal to most of us. Even Rasmussen the self professed conservative poll who likes to boast they predicted a Bush win in 04 over Kerry knows that Mittsy is toast. And you don't even want to know what the predictions for the Electoral College vote is... it will totally ruin your day Danny boy!

People realize that last century was all America! Everything we have now (cept for FB!) was created last century under tax rates much higher than they are now. All the wealth created last century under a higher tax rate! All the millionaires and Billionaires created under a higher tax system!

OMG! How did we ever survive! America became a Super Power under higher taxation. America created the largest middle class under a higher tax system. It was only when Reagan started lowering taxes on the rich that the middle class began to suffer.

                                                Obama's gonna fix dat!

True. And lets look at the last century from a military standpoint. It took 2 Democratic presidents to win WW1 and WWII. It took a Republican one to give up on Korea, another to lose Vietnam, and stretching into this century two more to fail to win in Iraq. Republicans claim to be pro military. They are just pro military spending. And incompetent CIC's to boot.

Tag, rewriting history doesn't do Democrats any favors. The United States barely had a presence in WWI, and contemporary scholarship casts doubt on how decisive it was. In WWII, American troops clearly prevailed in the Pacific Theater, but it was the Russians who did most of the fighting and dying in Europe. Korea had become a stalemate and was as unpopular domestically as Vietnam would be ten years later. Eisenhower simply responded to the lack of support for the war. Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon escalated the war in Vietnam, but the corruption of the various South Vietnamese regimes made it a doomed enterprise from the start.
