A Super PAC supporting Democrats, Majority PAC, went up with an ad in Virginia hitting Republican Senate candidate George Allen.
“He called programs like Medicare and Social Security a waste,” an announcer says, before almost goading fact checkers. “It’s true. George Allen said: ‘Whatever the government program is -- no matter how essential it is -- it’s a waste.’”
The ad, which a Majority PAC press release says began running Tuesday night, shows Allen making those exact comments and adds, “And that’s exactly the plan George Allen will take to Washington. Slashing Medicare. Cutting Social Security. Eliminating 700,000 jobs. All to pay for more tax breaks for millionaires. Why would we send George Allen back to Washington?
But Majority PAC takes Allen out of context.
The clip is taken from a five-minute segment from FOX in 2009. The segment is about waste at the Postal Service and health care. Medicare and Social Security never come up in the conversation.
Allen does make what seems to be a sweeping statement that applies to all federal programs, but the ad draws a direct line to Medicare and Social Security when no discussion in the referenced clip was to either program.
Here’s the video, which is on Allen’s YouTube channel, and a transcript of the first two-and-a-half minutes from the Dec. 22, 2009 show with guest host Charles Payne:
PAYNE: “Well, it’s billions in the red, but still spending your green. US Postal Service caught springing for parties, movies, even booze on taxpayer money. Government watchdog identifying nearly $800,000 in “imprudent spending.” My next guest is concerned that this is just a preview of coming attractions if the government takes over health care. George Allen, former Republican governor of Virginia, joins us now. Wow! This is a—I mean, listen, the post office is losing a lot of money to begin with and yet they can spring for stuff like this?
ALLEN: Yeah, Charles, you know, most Americans recognize that whatever the government program is, no matter how essential it is, it’s a waste. There’s constant waste in it and you know, here they are eating all sort of things – expensive meals and all the rest and here, folks that are working for a living and their money is confiscated in taxes to pay for these sort of things, it’s just galling. In fact, they found they’re having crab cakes and beef wellington, meanwhile we’re all eating cupcakes and beef jerky.
PAYNE: Gollee, I can tell you, I’ve never--, George, I can tell you, I’ve never even had beef wellington before! But tell us, though, now how do you make the connection? Do you think they’re going to do the same thing with this health care?--
ALLEN: Sure—
PAYNE: --it’ll be just one giant pot of money for parties.
ALLEN: Well, I’m not saying they’re going to have parties—
PAYNE: I know—
ALLEN: --they’ll have waste in it. But what are we getting, Charles? Those of us in it. What we’re getting hit with is higher taxes; we’re getting higher premium costs; you’re seeing for the states they have unfunded mandates to it; you’re going to have generally speaking a lower standard of health care while the social engineers and these elites in Washington are imposing this on the American people. It’s something that’s going to be harmful to small business, job growth, and on top of it all of it’s an experiment, health care experiment that’s going to cost $1 trillion that we don’t have and the last thing we need is more debt for these sort of experiments. The people of America need personal responsibility and freedom, not dependency on the government.

What a scary prospect.
One politician taking another one out of context.
Next thing you know, someone will be accusing the President of having said that people don't really build their own businesses.
And someone will be accusing Mitt Romney of liking to fire people.
Sadly, these days it's actually more like news if someone gets it right than if someone gets it wrong.
Only you never hear about that.
Anna,
The Romney/Adelson/GOP have lied harder and whoppier in this election, than in any of their previous elections. Just off the charts!
And Paul Ryan, right out of the gate, told horrendous lies to seniors in Florida about Medicare. And the two of them are still stumping and robocaling those same lies. Remember "We built that", and welfare/work lie...all just completely fabricated and dirty.
By contrast, Dems are expected to tell the truth, and we do. It is an unequal expectation that Dems consistently live up to. We are expected to play defense.
there is a difference between taking out of context and out right lying
although i am a bit surprised that Right wingers aren't jumping at the ball to use this against Obama or even just democrats in general
Desperation, thy name is Republican.
@annoyed,
They're rather busy playing defense right now but don't worry: once they smell the blood in the water the Right wingers will come.
Backhouse said,
"By contrast, Dems are expected to tell the truth, and we do."
Do you remember this...
"I did not have sex with that woman"
Didn't think so...
Pathetic just pathetic
It's time to turn the page on this failed presidency...
The middle class and your grandchildren can't afford 4 more...
16 TRILLION and counting... tick tick tick
The time is now. The election is NOW.
This President. This Election. This GOP nominee.
In 2012, this GOP strategy involves mega lies, and mega secret billions c/o Citizens' United.
And after 4 years of open GOP obstruction, following a second Great Depression.
Question for you. If the Ryan budget doesn't balance until about 2040, will the debt not keep piling up during those years? If not, where will the additional debt go?
Does Republican debt somehow go where balloons go when children let them go on a lazy Sunday afternoon? Out of sight, out of mind?
Because Bush already tried that. It didn't work.
And here we are. Tick, tick, tick ....
Even if Romney wins, your grandchildren will be paying for it.
It sure would be nice having an election based on facts, and not half-truths. Both sides spew so much garbage out, makes me sick, but then again, it is politics.
I'm actually suprised to see any of the regular Lib's on here after reading the headline... Yesterday I asked if there were any Dem's on the discussion that actually were disappointed with anything that Obama did, and I only received one response.
I will call out my guy when he messes up, would be refreshing to see the other side do the same!
Backhouse said,
"The time is now. The election is NOW.

So you mean we not going to hear "it's Bush's fault" anymore... oh wait
So you mean "we closed Gitmo".. oh wait
So you mean "we cut the deficit in half"... oh wait
"But Democrats always tell the truth"...
Let's see if I can say this nicely...
Bovine fecal matter!!
It's time to turn the page on this failed presidency...
The middle class and your grandchildren can't afford 4 more...
16 TRILLION and counting... tick tick tick
The quote wasn't that far out of context. Their giving him a lot of credit excluding Medicare and Social Security from his broad generalization.
Considering the Romney's lies weren't even close, this one's a non-issue.
Anna said,
"If the Ryan budget doesn't balance until about 2040"
It's true it will take a looong time but it does balance the budget...
Does Obama's budget balance the budget at anytiime? ... oh wait he doesn't have a budget and hasn't had one for 3 years!!
I'm sure it won't take that long under Obama's plan because he already cut the deficit in half... oh wait...
It's time to turn the page on this failed presidency...
The middle class and your grandchildren can't afford 4 more...
16 TRILLION and counting... tick tick tick
GOP Congressionals blocked the closing of Guantanamo.
President Bush turned a massive Clinton surplus into a deficit, in his first year of office.
RomneyRyan will add $10 Trillion to the deficit.
Ryan's plan doesn't begin to balance out until 2040.
Take ya blindfold off.
Not out of context at all.
"Yeah, Charles, you know, most Americans recognize that whatever the government program is,
no matter how essential it is, it's a waste."
If you think that's taken out of context, you don't understand the meaning of the word context.
Allen himself jumps away from the Post Office strawman, right on to health care.
Allen is trying to establish "small government conservative" credentials with a broad generalization
about government.
Haven't seen the Tea.O.P. trying to slice fraud, waste and abuse out of the D.O.D.
Oh, yeah, that's one of their corporate welfare teats. Swing and a miss, Domenico.
P.S. Rombot.Has.Nothing. (along with the rest of his weak assed ilk)
Anna Molly
It's ok because Paul Ryan called himself "fiscally responsible" as all Republicans do. Even though Bush2 borrowed and spent like it was going out of style;, Paul Ryan asked for and was happy to accept stimulus money; Romney raised fees in Mass on the little people; Romney took taxpayers' money for the Olympics and his Bain owned companies...
I can keep going on but the point is that Republicans believe in "do as I say, not as I do"
Maxx Power
take out the wars, the Medicare part D, the Bush mortgage payments and Bush interest mortgage payment, the difference in the FY2009 Bush budget that projected less in spending and/or more revenue, the unpaid Bush tax cuts....and tell me what you have left in your tick, tick, tick.
George "Macaca" Allen is a jerk. Though I don't think ads should take comments out of context, I can't help but think these are his true feelings anyway......
Ryan says it does, but most credible economists disagree.
What if something happens in the meantime that blows up all those assumptions?
Like a war with Iran, for example. Or is that already built in to Romney's unfunded $2 trillion increase in defense spending, just over the next few years.
Where is THAT money coming from, by the way?
More tax cuts for the wealthy? More cuts to Social Security and Medicare?
Seriously.
You'd better hope you never need those things because if you elect Romney, those things won't be there for you. Just more mounds of debt.
So, in that way, it DOES matter who you vote for, Maxxie.
If I have to go into debt anyway, I'd rather put that money toward doing good, not wars, and not tax cuts for people who are already rich and don't need the hand, and that don't create jobs.
Shhhhhh .... don't you know?
You're not supposed to talk about these things except in quiet rooms with friendly audiences.
Here is a youtube clip of George Allen referring to campaign volunteer S.R. Sidarth as "macaca". The term was/is pejorative term used by whites to blacks. Essentially it's calling them "monkeys."
http ://www .youtube.com/watch?v=r90z0PMnKwI
When he was Governor of Virginia he was the one that stated (when referring to Democrats) "let's enjoy knocking [the Democrats'] soft teeth down their whining throats."
As Governor, on three separate occasions he signed a "Confederate History Month" proclamation where he stated the Civil War was, "a four-year struggle for independence and sovereign rights." There was no mention of slavery in any of the proclamations. He also opposed the Civil Rights Act (1991) as a member of the US House of Representatives.
since I guess your a conservative and some how your recently concerned about the debt. what is your party going to do about there policies that's driving the national dept?
www.offthechartsblog.org/what%E2%80%99s-driving-projected-debt/
Chris@SLC - since I guess your a conservative and some how your recently concerned about the debt. what is your party going to do about there policies that's driving the national dept?
Oh me! Please! Please! The Repubicans in Congress plan to do what they do best - nothing. They'll obstruct everything that is proposed to help the country until people finally get smart and vote them out!!!! (How'd I do?)
Obama/Biden 2012 and all Democrats for Congress!!!!
Oh come on, now. That must have been taken out of context. Maybe George was speaking in front of a group of sadistic Neo-Nazi dentists or something. Or maybe not.
President Obama by default in November! There doesn't seem to be anyone running against him!
Shady,
Is the mainstream media covering this?
Shady - you're name says it all - you clearly are totally shady. If this was true the mainstream media would already be ALL over it!
As I always say - seeking sanity and any type of integrity in the GOP but absolutely none exists.
Obama/Biden 2012
SS, It is being reported go check it out.
This is troubling.
Hours before the bloody assault, Sean Smith sent a message to Alex Gianturco, the director of "Goonswarm," Smith's online gaming team or "guild."
“Assuming we don’t die tonight,” the message, which was first reported by Wired, read. “We saw one of our ‘police’ that guard the compound taking pictures.”
Within hours of posting that message, Smith, a husband and father of two, was dead. Gianturco, who could not be reached for further comment, got the word out to fellow gamers, according to Wired.
Thetotas,
Is the mainstream media covering this? Of course not, they are more concerned about something Romney said 4 or 5 months ago. Haven't seen anyone in the Media questioning why we never had Marines at our Embassies in the Middle East. No mention that the State Department apparently did not want Marines but opted for contracted Security Guards.
Even our Intelligence people have said the attack was a coordinated Terrorist Attack and not an assault because of the anti-Islamist film, which BTW had been on line for several months.
Now it is reported the President Morsi of Egypt (Muslim Brotherhood) wants the U.S. to release the Blind Sheik from prison and return him to Egypt.
This is despicable.
Sufyan Ben Qumu is thought to have been involved and even may have led the attack, intelligence sources said. Qumu, a Libyan, was released from the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in 2007 and transferred into Libyan custody on the condition he be kept in jail. His Guantanamo files also show he has ties to the financiers behind the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
I guess this is not important enough to cover. Yea no media bias? I dont know if anyone has notice, but there is a pattern here. Every time a story breaks that might show Obama in a bad light, we get crickets.
Liberal Media
Like Joe Scarborough said – The Liberal media was much more powerful in 1980, 84 and 88 when Conservatives won handily without any help at the time from a Fox News or Talk Radio. So all of us Conservatives need to deal with it and stop using the Liberal Media as an excuse.
Tim Kaine the wanna be Senator for Virginia is lier and a fiasco. He sais that he balance the budget , but the fact is that Sen. Wagner who precede him as Governor for Virginia rise the taxes , tipical Democrat, more than necessary and the inherit a surplus. Kaine spend most of his time as Governor campaigning for Obama and head of the Democrat Party, he left Virginia with no money , like most Governors Democrats , to the point that he order to close the Rest Areas. Kaine is a disgrace for Virginia but he was the Lapdog for Obama.
Factcheck.
Oskar, I can't even start with all of your typos in your deranged post. You do know there is a spell check when you comment? My point is this, if you, oskar-with-the-stupid-avatar are going to post an insult, you ought to spell check it first. Might just make your comment a wee bit more respected.
Can't help myself ... lier, sais, rise, tipical, spend .... and those are just the typos and not the grammar .....
Obama/Biden 2012 - where teachers count! (And Oskar needs one!)
I'm from Chicago and my teachers are on strike.
Dennis,
I disagree! Perfect example, Michael Moore, Fahrenheit 9/11. That was all over the place not stop 24/7 coverage.
Moving forward. Movie Obama's American 2016??? Anyone?
People are talking about Dennis, and sooner than later the media will be called out. Dont believe me check out Los Angeles Times.
Oskar ...
Correction, they WERE on strike. Stay abreast of current events and in the meantime, learn some grammar!
http://abcnews.go.com/US/chicago-teachers-vote-end-strike/story?id=17265739
Thats funny, because i hear hundreds of lies a week coming from Liz Warren and David Cicilline about their opponents, yet their opponents have run completely clean races with no slander or lies, and warren and cicilline are both lying scumbags who deserve to be slammed.
"whatever the government program is, no matter how essential it is, it’s a waste": George Allen
Republicans seem happy with spending money on airplanes, tanks and ships that the Pentagon doesn't want and just as happy cutting spending on Social Security, Medicare and child and health care programs that the people need. It must suck to be a Republican.
What does the word "all" mean? Allen included Medicare and Sociey Security by using the word all. It may be a bit of a stretch, but nothing compared with what I have seen coming from Romney.
That isnt taking out of context or even spinning, what nbc did here is called mis-quoting. He said "it's waste" not 'it is a waste'. Big difference when you ignore what the lib media wants you to believe.
The liberal machine is beginning to look like an old washing machine ... still STUCK ON THE "SPIN" CYCLE !
Wow ! So the Dems have been caught again EDITING TO DISTORT !! This comes after the 47% Romney "clip" was found to be (wait for it) ...................CLIPPED !!! Several minutes were missing !!!! LOL !!!!!!!!!!!
The desperation of the Dems has sunk to a new low.
Oh, the shame. Imagine a democrat taking a republican's comments out of context--as if the GOPers never run misleading ads with comments taken out of context. Wait, that's right, the GOP simply flat out lies in their ads so guess I'm wrong to compare the two.
That said, I will add that I appreciate FR's efforts. It is really good to see the media doing fact-checking and reporting on both sides. For too long, untruths or distortions were allowed to stand as fact. Comments and ads went unchallenged. Cheers to the media finding its voice again.
Yes, we don't need to mention that the during the interview in question, the Fox entertainment interviewer was saying that the US Postal service was spending taxpayer money. That's like saying Federal Express spends taxpayer dollars. While both spend money, neither is spending taxpayer money.
More to the point, anyone who gets all of their news from Fox, MSNBC, CNN, Breitbart, the Wall Street Journal or any of the other obviously biased locations should just check their brains at the door. You need a wide variety of news sources or you end up sounding like wing nuts from either side of the aisle.
I hear you Jody but after watching the clip, this is nothing compared to the out-and-out lies that the Republicans have told and continue to tell.
Lies? The GOP?
Remember James Guckert (Jeff Gannon)? That was the fake newsman that Bush installed in his news conferences to deflect embarrassing questions away from Dubya. They found out the guy was a male prostitute.
Yeah. This is what Reagan used to call "information management".
I'm rather surprised that an MSM outlet like NBC would even admit this happened.
There is definitely a clear and visible bias in the media in favor of all things "connected" to or with Obama. I'll bet if he was directly involved in this, no such article would have appeared on this website.
@Z,
"Fluoridization is a Communist plot to sap and impurify our precious bodily fluids."
-Col. J. D. Ripper
Ummm, this is for a Senate race, Barack Obama is President, different branch of government.
While the GOP walks and talks in lockstep about killing off Social Security and Medicare, much of the Democratic party does not parrot the same talking points like the GOP.
Bali Bob,
Greatest movie ever....
J.D. Ripper a great character
but Peter Sellers still the best.
This isn't out of context at all! The ad says Allen called programs "like" Medicare and Social Security a waste. At no time does it specifically say that Allen called Medicare and SS a waste. Taking out of context is when you edit a clip to make it sound something much different than what is actually being said. The message I got from Allen was "all government programs a waste." The message I got from the ad is "Allen thinking all programs are bad, so Medicare and SS could be included in that" Thats not out of context! Thats contextualizing and clearing it up!
out of context like what msnbc did to romney and to the alleged trayvon killer? is that taking something out of context for a sensational result?
billybob: there is no doubt that zimmerman killed trayvon martin. The only question is if it was self defense or manslaughter.
Romney's statements don't have to be taken out of context to make him look like an idiot who hates the USA, he does that very well all by himself. The more complete the statements, the worse Romney looks. "Corporations are people, my friend."
Romney never had to go through this kind of twisted logic to explain his “corporations are people” statement. Romney realized that people with an IQ greater than their hat size already know that corporations are people. A bunch of people are people. A bunch of people working together with common purpose are still people!
Families are people; political parties are people, unions are people, sports teams are people; corporations are people. Clouds are not people; mountain ranges are not people. Get it? From the CEO to the clerk in the mail room, corporations are the sum total of their people. And the ones who don't recognize that, will vote for Obama no matter how incompetent he is.
Kannin
kind of like anyone with a brain should stop spreading the "you didn't build that" propaganda. But yet they do.
The "CEO to the clerk in the mail room" were individuals working for a corporation until the Supreme Court changed the rules. A corporation is NOT a person.
Re-elect President Obama...the middle class and your grandchildren deserve it
Dianne - And a family "is NOT a person" ... But families ARE people. Deliberately pretending to misunderstand is just a stupid grade school ploy!
The liberal elite are supposed to be so.....elite ----Most are not so obtuse that they truly don't comprehend what "corporations are people" means.
Dianne - And a family "is NOT a person" ... But families ARE people
So according to Kannin, people build families and people build cars, and families are people, so cars are people too. It's never to late to get an education in reasoning, Kannin.
I love having sex with my corporation. Of course, I always buy it dinner first. I did consider marrying my corporation, but I couldn't figure out its gender. I will tell, you one my favorite things is to watch my corporation breath - I know, kinda creepy, but since my corporation doesn't have eyes, it doesn't notice. My corporation is a bit sassy, when I tried to slap its butt, I ended up with a paper cut. I guess those stocks made of paper don't like a little foreplay.
Give it up Red. By arguing with something I never said, you make it blindingly obvious that you have no logical response to what I actually posted.
Does a corporation breath, live, give birth, die ?
I'm not talking about ending it's corporate structure, or the ownership of the corporation deciding to dissolve the business.
That in itself distinguishes a corporation from a person. Since slavery was abolished, "People" are not owned. Thus, since a corporation can't exist without ownership, a corporation is not a person.
The Citizens United decision is the worst decision in the history of jurisprudence. It truly is the wholesale sale of the US Government to corrupt corporate interests. There may not be a great impact on the Presidency, but within two election cycles, the corruption entering every office of the legislature will be tremendous. One entire political party has already sworn blood oaths for money, can more corruption be far behind.
am -- i was watching a show about food the other night. the owner now is the son of the guy that started the place by borrowing and mortgaging everything they had. then worked 16 hour days 6 days a week. now the son is working the same schedule.
would you have the conviction to walk up to this business owner and tell him he did not build his business?
billybob-6210632
"You didn't build that" wasn't referring to a business. It was referring to to the infrastructure that made the business possible. If you listen to the whole clip, that becomes abundently clear.
Besides, didn't you see a pizza owner joyfully pick up President Obama the other day? That man is a former Republican voter, now an Obama supporter and a small business owner.
no amount of spin will result in an interpretation that the big BO wasn't crediting government for everything. you may choose to believe that he was talking about infrastructure and you would be wrong.
no, did not see the pizza guy. does the mrs. know that barry is eating unhealthy food? sure hope he did not wash it down with a 32 oz. sugary drink
have a nice day
A pizza CAN be a very healthy meal, depending on how it is made and what you put on it.
Personally, when I eat pizza, I like a deep dish with everything. I also eat the richest full fat content ice cream there is, Haagen Daaz or Ben & Jerry's. If you are going to indulge and enjoy yourself, you may as well do it.
President Obama WAS referring to infrastructure AND general support for businesses. As was shown in later statements, he meant no one builds a business, or goes to college, or graduates from high school, or does anything by themselves. For some, they borrow $20,000 from their parents. For the majority of middle and lower income people, they use government grants and loans to go to college or start a business. Even companies like Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase and Bain Capital rely on government loans and bailouts.
The reality is, in the modern world, business can't operate without the structures and support of government. US business would not be able to compete on the world stage without government support. Whether it is the import/export bank, FDIC insurance, Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac, farm price supports, crop insurance or a host of other direct and indirect supports, US business depends on government, more than individuals do.
dirp -- why do you need to explain what he meant? it is because he said what he meant. just like when he said the private sector is doing fine and his latest that he is not worried about the $16,000,000,000,000 debt.
he says what he means. don't spin it, you insult the man acclaimed to be the smartest president to ever serve by having to repeatedly explain what you or others think he should have said but didn't.
i do not dismiss the need for infrastructure. i reject that he believes we owe all of our success (he never talks about failures, especially his own) to the government.
Actually a pizza does have all the basic food groups --- grains, dairy, vegetables and protein. I consider it the ultimate heath food!
The only valid statement the President made in that Virginia speech was that usually there was a teacher, or a mentor, or a role model that helped inspire a person to have enough confidence to be successful. His main point that we owe our success, not to ourselves in anyway, but solely to the government is plain scary.
Candice - you're a liar and, what's sad, you know it.
His main point was NOT that we owe our success solely to the government but that none of us got where we are without the encouragement of teachers; a mentor; or a role model who helped us recognize that we have no limits and can achieve what we set out to do.
Your lie was just that. He NEVER indicated that we owe our success to the government in any way. If you are so ignorant that you got that from his statement - then you are too stupid for words and I hope someone is taking care of your because you clearly are not capable of rational thought.
Post your lies somewhere where low information righties will eat them up. You're way out of your league here!
Obama/Biden 2012
What? You don't agree that pizza can be a health food?
Seeking. You're so angry all the time, doesn't that get exhausting?
I agree with you on that, silly.
Yes, his Virginia speech was about how government plays a role in people's success. If you didn't catch that, you should go back and review his comments or consult with some of your friends on here who defend him in that idea.
Seeking - be happy!
Candice,
Seeking has a tendency to jump the gun.
She has a tendency to pour out venom for anyone and everyone that does not fit her liberal ideology. It is still quite amazing she does not get "Suspended for a Day" for her many attacks on other posters.
A margherita pizza with tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms and low-fat cheese can be quite healthy.
Are the Righties heads EXPLODING over the fact that Holder was cleared of knowledge or involvement in the Fast and Furious 'scandal'?
Sure they are!
@Clara,
I could hear Ted Nugent's head exploding from my house!
LOL, he was investigated by his own department, yeah what a surprise!
Like popcorn popping on the apricot tree.

All that huffin' and puffin'.......vitriol against AG Holder........for Nothing!
Someone needs to give Issa a roll of duct tape. He'll never let it go. I believe he has a Napoleon complex.
Obama/Biden 2012 - the middle class and your grandchildren deserve it
Yup, Issa does have a complex, Diane, and it ain't pretty!
Save MEDICARE.....Save MEDICAID...Save Social Security.....Save Womens Right to Privacy...Save Public Education....Save Affordable Healthcare Act....Save Workers Union Rights....Save US Jobs......and please save the Country from another war.......
Vote for the Democratic Party!
Obama/Biden 2012!
diane -- unfortunately your grandchildren will be paying for it as will their grandchildren. imagine spending nearly $6,000,000,000,000 in less than 4 years. if he wins do you think he can double that in his next term. if so, then add several more generations that will forever be saddled with the obama legacy.
RedDevPS
Oh, you are so your youth! :)
FYI sirie, the Inspector General DOES NOT WORK FOR THE justice department. any question?
However Issa needs to be investigated.
Yeah - some of us never grow up!! It had a certain Romney-ring to it.
You libbies think that " taken out of context" is something new...
sh-t the media has been doing this to Republicans for decades!!
Pathetic just pathetic!!
Just wait until the middle class finds out about the new estimate of "tax" they will have to pay under Obamacare!!
It's time to turn the page on this failed presidency...
The middle class and your grandchildren can't afford 4 more...
16 TRILLION and counting and guess who's going to pick up the tab... The Middle Class!!
President Obama said, "I will stand with the Muslims!"
Speaker Pelosi said, "We have to pass Health Care Reform to find out what's in it!"
Now, please, tell me...who, exactlly, are Republicans to be complaining about taking things out of context?
Maxx,
Since you know, would you please give us an estimate of the amount the middle class (average household) will pay for Obamacare?
While you are at it please provide a link to your source.
noid -- interesting choices. of the two nancy's is the most egregious and is not out of context. her words. funny how they come back to haunt the arrogant and narcissistic politicians
barry's comment was expected.
Thank you, "billybob"...I rest my case.
noid -- i graciously accept your concession.
have a nice day.
*shakes his head*
noid -- in agreement, thanks again.
So, since "billybob" seems unaware of his mistake, does anyone else want to give this a try?
noid -- no mistake. you asked a question, i answered, you rested, i accepted, you shook your head, i said thanks again
now you begin to appreciate those of us that do not think the president is perfect feel when folks like you defend him to absurdity.
thanks again. have a nice evening, i know i will.
Really? No mistakes? I didn't misquote either President Obama or Speaker Pelosi?
How about a $10,000 bet?
noid -- only you 1% types can afford that, me i am just a regular old working stiff. cannot afford to be even on a sure thing.
thanks for playing - phrase attributed to your leader in this little pond - feisty the dumbfux.
good evening again.
gotta go but please feel free to play with someone else,
Maxx Power - Good points, these libs are completely blind.
On the subject of I din't build that all by myself, someone else helped, the government helped me. Can I also blame that someone and the government when I go out of business?
I built it, I sweat it, I slaved over it and the roads that the government build were build because of my taxes. Mr President go build it yourself.
Aw, but you're so much fun when you're wrong. I guess I should give you credit, though...at least you're consistent.
DaNoid - you're asking billybob to be honest? Really? Of course he's not about to admit the out and out lies the far right posts. That would totally defeat their purpose of posting them. They clearly believe everyone is as gullible as they are and will believe anything they write.
No real surprise he left.
Obama/Biden 2012
and in turn cc you take President Obama quote out of context. pathetic.
Hey Chris, your are correct, I took him out of context........
I forgot to throw a couple of I I I I I I and AHHHHHHHHH, Uhhhhhhhhhhhs, but, but, but, but.
If you want to laugh since you have Bush as your avatar and we made so much fun of that President, take a look at this link. Is all YouTube.

Allen believes that everything in Washington is so bad that he wants to be there. He could also go to Yemen.
This is nothing in comparison with the lies that came out of the Democrat convention. See http://factcheck.org/2012/09/democratic-disinformation-from-charlotte/ Problem is, when Biden claims Romney “believes it’s OK to raise taxes on middle classes by $2,000,” and FactCheck shows that Romney actually promises to lower middle-class taxes, Democrats here keep reposting the lie.
The reality is, Kannin, that in order to give those earning more than $250,000 the tax cuts he wants to give, the independent (and bi-partisan) tax policy center has said that there would have to be cuts to deductions for middle class tax payers would result in an increase in their taxes by $2,000 each.
THAT is where the $2000.00 comes from.
Thank you for the citation, but it also helps if you read what you cite.
dirp -- do you believe we can run this country on the backs of those families that make $250k or more? do you believe that in order to bring this country into some level of fiscal responsibility we need to expand the tax base?
and where does this magic $250k (or $200k) come from? to a person living in poverty which we have more of today than in our entire history someone making $50k looks pretty rich.
dirp - It's Obama that wants to eliminate deductions, not Romney. Do you remember Obama's Orwellian phrase "Cut spending in the tax code" It absolutely horrified me! He explained it to mean that any income you can keep due to itemized deductions in your tax return is actually Government spending. And he wants to cut that.
The GOP/RNC "Speculator and Chief" has been out of context for his whole life. "Romulian Romney" is so out of context "Economically" with the Middle class, the Working Poor, the elderly, and the disabled. In the Economic Context of the "Romulian." Over 47% of our fellow citizens are lacking personal responsible, and are economic scum. In the Political Context of the GOP/RNC "Zombie." The low life members of the 47% of our fellow citizens will not have the GOD GIVEN right to vote. In the Social Context of the GOP/RNC "Romulian." Those who need economic assistance are not willing to work, and consider themselves victims. In the Foreign Policy Context of the GOP/RNC "Speculator and Chief." He will do nothing about peace in the Middle East, and will let things just blindly go on. In the Cultural Context of the "Romulian." He lives in his "Special Bubble," and he "Spews" to himself in another quiet room somewhere in one of his many mansions. The GOP/RNC "Speculator and Chief" has poltically, economically, socially, and culturally flipped flopped all over the place. At the dinner caught on video. The GOP/RNC "Romulian" spoke what he truely feels about our citizens, our nation, and our Constitution. In the video America. The GOP/RNC "Speculator and Chief" for the very first time was truely honest of how he hates the Middle Classs, the Working Poor, the elderly, and the disabled. That is fact!
Forget this ad - can we please see the video of George Allen eating cupcakes and beef jerky instead???
"meanwhile we’re all eating cupcakes and beef jerky."
Who needs to take George Allen out of context? I figure all you have to do is keep playing his "Macaca Moment" over and over again.
LOL....that was a great comment....and true!!!
While it is true that there is a general contempt withing the Republican party for any program that helps the vets, poor, elderly and children but sometimes Super PACs on both sides seem to stretch things a bit. They take liberties with what is really said and they can get away with it because they are independant of the campaigns. Thank you Supreme Court and Citizens United.
"Yeah, Charles, you know, most Americans recognize that whatever the government program is,
Would that include aircraft the military DOES NOT want? Is the Pentagon spending part of a government program? What about NASA? Maybe those "black projects" at AREA 51 are wasteful projects. And of course, a government program to educate people would be a waste too, right?
What a (explative) doofus.
Taken out of context? The GOP has opposed Social Security since its inception in the 1930's. They have consistently tried to destroy it. Same for Medicare and any other program that tries to help US citizens who happen to be in need. This is such a constant, consistent, and long term theme of the Republican Party that it's practically their trademark. Sure, their rhetoric changes over time. Sometimes they talk about the need to "reform" it, or "modernize" it, or even to "save" it. Recently they've argued in favor of "privatizing" it or substituting some kind of "voucher" system. But it all comes back their burning desire to destroy the social safety net.
I keep reading comments from people who say Allen's words were not taken out of context and he "basically" said exactly what the ad claims he said. Many of you have even quoted him to prove your point. What I kept waiting for was the second sentence in his quote that goes on to really explain what he was saying. I have added it now so his words would be taken in the proper context. That second sentence puts his point into the proper context and clarifies his statement and of course all the liberals choose to leave that part out when they "quote" him. How interesting it would be if you were always judged on the first sentence out of your mouth and nothing you followed with was ever considered.
"Yeah, Charles, you know, most Americans recognize that whatever the government program is, no matter how essential it is, it’s a waste. There’s constant waste in it..."
What follows the ... is the list of ways the postal service has wasted money they don't have,so I didn't include it.
I don't know how anyone with a brain cannot get the point of this comment. The point is the problem with government programs, no matter how good the initial intention, is they become corrupt. Waste becomes commonplace. Now you can look at waste as they are actually wasting money or you can look at it as the program itself becomes a waste because the corruption takes over. Either way that is the truth, Allen is speaking the truth.
This isn't saying that programs that can help people can't serve a purpose and Allen wants to make the elderly suffer. He is just honestly stating the fact that our government programs are full of waste and corruption, they are not really helping anyone.
The Democratic Super PAC quoted Allen out of context! How Republican of them!!
Senor Romney!

27 yrs after Miles Romney fled from the USA with his family and took refuge in Mexico to engage in polygamy, the Romney family decided to go back to the USA in 1912 during the Mexican Civil War. Congress established a $100,000 relief fund that enabled the Romneys and other polygamist Mormon exiles from Mexico to receive food and lodging. Hey Mitty, sounds like a nice government hand out !
Why does the lame/main street media, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC and all their affiliates, and C-SPAN always have to try to be so honest and thorough? That's boring and too confusing. Why can't they be more like FOX NEWSs and block, blackout, mischieviously rearrange, or chip away at parts the whole story and create a new story us what we really want to hear.
Allen will lose because he's an oppressive, obstructionist idiot, part of the War on Women too. It will have nothing to do with how he's quoted by anyone!
the obama administration doesn't need to lie that much, the media will do it for them....
speaking of the WAR on Women, why do all the Women working in the White House make less than the Men??
Mainly because that's a LIE:
That FAUX News-spread statistic simply added up all the women's and men's salaries and divided by their total pay - REGARDLESS OF JOB HELD.
Here's a great list of lie smackdowns from FactCheck.org:

History is about to repeat itself... LANDSLIDE VICTORY for the Republicans!
Talk about desperation it is the democrats that work their magic with an article that puts them is a bad light.
And to the poster that was pissing and moaning about Clinton's "surplus". The surplus was the Social Security with holdings from employment created by the dot-com boom and in fact Clinton left Bush with a 5.8 billion dollar national debt.
