Romney stands his ground on fundraiser comments

Mitt Romney continued to stand Tuesday behind his suggestion that he would have a tough time winning over those who pay no income taxes, pivoting in an afternoon interview to accusing President Barack Obama of supporting redistribution of wealth.

Romney said he was simply offering an assessment of how Obama was likely to receive almost half the vote at a fundraiser in May, which was surreptitiously recorded and publicized on Monday. Romney responded to a question by describing 47 percent of Americans as virtually automatic supporters of Obama because they are "dependent" upon government and pay no income taxes.

After a secretly recorded tape emerged showing Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney making controversial comments at a fundraiser, politicians and pundits weighed in. NBC's Peter Alexander reports.

"We were, of course, talking about a campaign and how he's going to get close to half the vote," Romney said of that claim during an appearance this afternoon on FOX News. "I'm going to get half the vote, approximately. I want to get 50.1 percent or more. And frankly, we have two very different views about America."

The video, first publicized by the liberal magazine Mother Jones, has quickly overshadowed other issues on the campaign trail and given Democrats fodder for their claims that Romney's policies are uncaring for the middle class.

First Thoughts: Romney's brutal last three weeks

Recognizing the potential impact of the firestorm, the Romney campaign hastily arranged a press conference Monday evening to respond to the video. The Republican presidential nominee said his remarks in the tape were "not elegantly stated," but did not disavow the substance of the controversy.

According to the Tax Policy Institute, although 47 percent of Americans do not pay federal income taxes, they do pay payroll taxes. And contrary to Mitt Romney's claims, those people are not living off the other 53 percent. NBC's Andrea Mitchell reports.

Romney similarly sought to explain himself on Tuesday, asserting his message is unlikely to appeal to those who pay little or no income tax or rely on government assistance.

"I'm talking about the perspective of individuals who I'm not likely to get to support me," Romney said. "I recognize that those people who are not paying income tax are going to say, 'Gosh this provision that Mitt keeps talking about, lowering income taxes,' that's not going to be real attractive to them. And those that are dependent upon government, and those that think the government's job is to redistribute -- I'm not going to get them."

The Daily Rundown's Chuck Todd reports on a statement that may significantly damage Mitt Romney's presidential campaign.

Romney also did clarify that he understands that military members and retired senior citizens -- two demographic groups who tend to favor the GOP in elections -- are among those who pay little or no income tax.

"Of course you're right. There are a number of retirees, members of the military and so forth who aren't paying taxes, and that's how it should be," he said. "But I do believe that we should have enough jobs and enough take-home pay such that people have the privilege of higher incomes that allow them to be paying taxes. I think people would like to be paying taxes."

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney comments on the controversial video of him speaking at a private fundraiser.

How the Romney video leaked: For Carters, it was personal

Romney also referred repeatedly to a new video that was circulated by the Republican National Committee on mid-afternoon Tuesday featuring audio -- allegedly of Barack Obama -- sympathetic in 1998 to the concept of redistributing wealth.

Obama is allegedly heard at a conference asking "how do we structure government systems that pool resources, and hence, facilitate some redistribution -- because I actually do believe in redistribution, at least at a certain level to make sure everyone's got a shot."

The audio, which was edited by the RNC, cuts out after that point and no additional context is provided.

Conservative blogs have nonetheless pounced on the clip as a rejoinder to the Romney controversy, and the Republican nominee used it Tuesday as evidence of a differing view from Obama's.

GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney defended his unguarded comments, secretly recorded at a private fundraising event in May and provided to the liberal magazine Mother Jones, that shows him speaking frankly about Obama's supporters. NBC's Michael Isikoff reports.

Romney: Secretly recorded remarks 'not elegantly stated'

"The president's view is one of a larger government. There's a tape which just came out today with the president saying he likes distribution. I disagree. I think a society based on a government-centered nation, where government plays a larger and larger role, redistributes money -- that's the wrong course for America. That will not build a strong course for America or help people out of poverty," Romney said.

Mitt says people want to pay taxes, yet he's gone out of his way to pay as little in taxes as possible. In fact, I'm still waiting to find out just how much he's actually paid.

Sadly, many of that 47% he's referring to are too dumb to realize that Mitt just insulted them and will vote for him anyway. After all, the redneck rallying cry is "anybody but Obama".

Finally, a candidate that isn't afraid to tell the truth even if it isn't 'PC"

This is just more Media Mafia distraction from the disastrous 0bama administration. The Media Mafia is hard at work protecting 0bama, just keep watching what they will do over the next few weeks--it's going to get truly disgusting. These "journalists" are going to stoop to the lowest levels to undermine Romney. Just look at what the DOJ and Media Matters are up to.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/09/18/emails-show-justice-working-with-media-matters-to-target-critics/

Rational people on both sides of the isle understand that the government dependancy in America is about to become a serious problem and needs to be addressed.

What Romney said was the cold hard truth.

But since it's an election year or actually election season since 0bama got elected we will be expected to kick the can down the road and whistle past the graveyard.

Mitt Romney is one lying plutocrat - who put thousands of Americans out of work, in order to pay himself millions of dollars.

Millions of dollars that he is now hiding.

And that is the only kind of "distribution" Romney understands.

You know how I know Mitt's a Republican?

Because he LIES so much.

Here are the facts about how this country is funded:

36% of all federal revenues now come from PAYROLL TAXES.

Only 17% of American households don't pay income or payroll taxes - mostly the disabled, elderly and students.

Rich folks like Mitt Romney, however, pay NO payroll taxes - since they don't count their income as wages.

And corporate taxes are at their lowest level in the industrialized era - down to only 8% of total federal revenues.

Sources of federal revenue, 2011

Sources of federal tax revenue, 1945-2010

Center on Budget and Policy Priorities:

When all federal, state, and local taxes are taken into account, the bottom fifth of households pays about 16 percent of their incomes in taxes, on average. The second-poorest fifth pays about 21 percent.

That's more than Mitt paid.

From USA Today:

Who gets food stamps?

The most recent Department of Agriculture report on the general characteristics of the SNAP program's beneficiaries says that in the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, 2010:

••47% of beneficiaries were children under age 18.

••8% were age 60 or older.

••41% lived in a household with earnings from a job — the so-called "working poor."

••The average household received a monthly benefit of $287.

••36% were white (non-Hispanic), 22% were African American (non-Hispanic) and 10% were Hispanic.

A Flat tax would solve all of this "these people didn't pay their fair share...." Everybody should pay taxes, and a flat tax would level the field. Rich people would pay more (loopholes removed), and poor as well. We should all have some skin in this game. Our country is in trouble. It spends waaay more than it brings in. We should cut back on the spending and increase what EVERYBODY pays.

Isn't it cute when a breitbart quoting teabagger (elliot...) attempts to lecture normal people about the "truth"? How about that time that elliot stated that Bill Gates lives on Mercer Island in Washington to prove that President Obama was an elitist for having lived there...and anyone from the area knows that Bill Gates lives in Medina...which is most absolutely not on Mercer Island. (when confronted, elliot tucked his tail and ran away like a good little teabagger)

Elliot...you lie pathologically to prove a point have no businees lecturing anyone else about what the truth is. The truth would be that if you type it, the opposite is reality.

Isn't it sad what people have to be reduced to to support immoral scum like Romney?

Perhaps you should be more worried about who isn't reporting the story.

Matthew Boyle at The Daily Caller published 69 pages of emails between Media Matters for America and Department of Justice spokeswoman Tracy Schmalerabout Operation Fast and Furious.

Fast and Furious was a government-run gun walking scheme that put over 2,000 guns into the hands of Mexican drug cartels. The guns are linked to the deaths of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and 300+ Mexican citizens. Thousands are still missing.

These emails prove coordination between MMfA and the DOJ to spin stories. The DOJ was using MMfA as their own personal publicist and MMfA was spreading false information. To make it worse, MMfA is a tax exempt company that is backed by George Soros.

Among those named in the emails are Mr. Boyle, Katie Pavlich at Townhall, Sharyl Attkisson at CBS News, NRA News, Mike Vanderboegh (one of the original bloggers who broke the story), FOX News and Breitbart News.

In one of the more shocking emails, Ms. Schmaler emailed Matt Gertz at MMfA and suggested an attack piece on Tea Party Nation Founder Judson Phillips. She tells Mr. Gertz what Mr. Phillips said was completely false, because President Bush's operations Wide Receiver and Hernandez “put this to a lie.” There’s only one problem with that statement. Mr. Phillips was only talking about Fast and Furious. There was nothing false in his appearance on FOX News. He simply said it must be investigated and it was a partisan program.

Later that day Chris Brown wrote a piece calling Mr. Phillips a “right-wing extremist.” He tried to prove Mr. Phillips wrong that Fast & Furious had anything to do with gun control, which Ms. Attkisson proved to be correct on December 7, 2011. That was the only part of Mr. Brown’s piece that had anything to do with Mr. Phillips’ appearance. The rest of it was a smear job on him, pointing out past statements.

On March 19, MMfA was quick to come to the defense of Attorney General Eric Holder after Breitbart News produced a video from of him in 1995 in which he talks about stricter gun control laws. Despite the overwhelming evidence, MMfA didn’t take too kindly with us using the video to connect it to Fast & Furious. Mr. Gertz was eager to send both articles to Ms. Schmaler.

Will this be enough to pull MMfA's tax exempt status?

When people complained about Mitt's 14% tax rate on his 2010 return, Mitt's response was, "I paid what I rightfully owed under the tax code. I'd be crazy to pay more than I legally owe."

When people who have no income tax liability because of low paying jobs, Bush tax cuts, childhood tax credit, etc. pay what they legally owe under the tax code, Mitt calls them "dependent on government, who believe the are victims, who believe government must take care of them."

PATHETIC. He's completely unfit to lead our country.

I am part of the 47%.

My children, who are in college, pay no taxes, and yet they get Pell grants and federal student loans.

And he's right, I would never have voted for Mitt Romney.

But entitled? A moocher? I don't think so.

I am a part owner of the small business that makes up my day job and that employs about 75 people. I have two other little part-time gigs that pay me a little more, and while I'm not rich by anyone's measure, oh boy do I pay federal income taxes. I also volunteer in three other places. Lazy? Not so much.

Conservative columnist David Brooks made a very important point: many of the "entitlements" that Mitt is talking about are not the sort that are incitements to laziness. They are opportunities. Like the help my kids are getting to go to better schools than we could otherwise afford -- schools where they are undoubtedly going to work harder than they might expect to do elsewhere. But from which they will (I hope) earn degrees that will in turn allow them to pay higher taxes over the course of their lives. And they are opporunities like VA health care for Iraq war vets, that, who knows, may get some number of them back on unsteady feet so that they can go on and lead fulfilling (and taxpaying) lives.

Yes, I am one of the 47% who were mocked by Mitt Romney, and for whom Mitt Romney chooses to have no policies or governing plan. And I would never consider voting for him.

Why?

Well, first of all, because I have no idea what he stands for, or what he believes. One thing about "the next Presidential term" that has been true throughout American history is that it is dominated by the unexpected. So you'd be wise to choose a President based on what he believes in. No one knows the first thing about what Romney believes in.

And second, because I'm a Keynesian through and through. And I can see the evidence that is as plain as the nose on your face that "trickle down economics" doesn't work -- it merely results in the concentration of wealth at the top. Yes, in a healthy economy, I like balanced budgets. But right now is decidedly not the time to cut taxes on the rich and cut spending on social programs.

There are other things, too, that go into the mix. Things like women's rights, and sciencey stuff like evolution and global warming.

So, right back at you, Mr. Romney, from one of the 47%. You got it right for once.

What do these areas have in common with one another you ask? It's quite plain these areas that have the largest population concentrations are the largest sectors of gov't dependent voters. Tell me dems, what part of unsustainable don't you understand? When gov't dependency roles top 50%, what happens to the golden egg laying goose?

Feisty...I am surprised the left have not distanced themselves from your comments....What Romney said was reasonable and based in fact. It is highly unlikely that he will win the vote of the 47% of people who pay no taxes or benefit from those who do. No matter what he does he will not loose the vote of the Republican base as we have already been declared the enemy by our sitting share the wealth president...who really has no clear understanding of his own policy as to who will be required to share their wealth...This in one area where Obama will loose independents who wished to see a stronger economy by now and who wished to see us out of two wars and not entered into several other proxy wars, with Gitmo still opened and no improved policy over immigration and our borders still hemorrhaging undocumented labor, heinous human trafficking and a Mexican drug war coming to a town near you.

Quite honestly Obama and his administration of self-loathing rich white folk have failed. Unemployment is still over 8% and the white house is touting a singular effort to employ illegal immigrants over citizens. Unemployment and underemployment of University graduates is staggering and yet Obama and his frazzled brain trust wishes to offer educational funding and priority employment opportunities to the children of undocumented immigrants instead of the children of citizens.

Obama has thrown billions at the housing market and yet more money has evaporated into thin air than has gone to support those who were abused by countrywide and other fannie and freddie preferred lenders.

I am glad that Romney has not backtracked on a statement that is true. He needs to reach the independents but honor the commitments that he makes to them to assure our country in around at least four more years and to let them know that they do count in America. Any Republican that is voted into congress also need to make a commitment that they will support Romney in his leadership position. Thank God the DNC leadership in congress didn't all fall in behind Obama for everything because we would have been in much worse shape if the DNC moderates didn't us sounder judgement.

Who know there even may be some from the 47% who end up liking the fact that they can be self-sufficient in their needs and actually pay toward the cost of government instead of depending upon their benevolence. Isn't that the point of reducing unemployment in the United States?

The other thing that's making us so damn angry, is because millionaires like Mitt Robme are the ones who DON'T PAY TAXES and you've got plenty of evidence of that by the FACT that Romney keeps his millions off-shore where he's able to avoid paying taxes to the United States.

txmom32 - you're an imbecile and your post proves it.

Allison Lynn of NBC news today:

The Tax Policy Center researchers found that about half of the group is basically exempt from federal income taxes because they are low income and also may have a large family.

In a blog released not long after its report, the TPC explained that "a couple with two children earning less than $26,400 will pay no federal income tax this year because their $11,600 standard deduction and four exemptions of $3,700 each reduce their taxable income to zero."

The other half are zeroing out their federal income tax bill with other provisions, such as itemized deductions or the child tax credit. Some are seniors who are living off Social Security.

To be clear, the people in this group are still paying taxes. They are subject to payroll taxes for things like Medicare and Social Security, federal excise taxes on things like gasoline and state and local taxes including sales taxes on items they purchase.

Not everyone who pays no federal income tax is in the lower income brackets. A separate report released last spring by the Internal Revenue Service found more than 35,000 people who made more than $200,000 in 2009 also managed to zero out their tax bills. That report noted that it generally takes a number of different credits and deductions for wealthy people to not pay any federal income taxes.

Go ahead - stick with Mitt the nitwit. It shows everything about who you are and how little you know!

Oh and an FYI - Independents are not brain dead - like you - so the majority will NOT vote for MItt!

The Romney/Ryan Theme Song--

Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your mouth,
Blowing down the backroads headin' south.
Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your teeth,
You're an idiot, babe.
It's a wonder that you still know how to breathe.

I ran into the fortune-teller, who said beware of lightning that might strike
I haven't known peace and quiet for so long I can't remember what it's like.
There's a lone soldier on the cross, smoke pourin' out of a boxcar door,
You didn't know it, you didn't think it could be done, in the final end he won the wars
After losin' every battle.

I woke up on the roadside, daydreamin' 'bout the way things sometimes are
Visions of your chestnut mare shoot through my head and are makin' me see stars.
You hurt the ones that I love best and cover up the truth with lies.
One day you'll be in the ditch, flies buzzin' around your eyes,
Blood on your saddle.

Idiot wind, blowing through the flowers on your tomb,
Blowing through the curtains in your room.
Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your teeth,
You're an idiot, babe.
It's a wonder that you still know how to breathe.

It was gravity which pulled us down and destiny which broke us apart
You tamed the lion in my cage but it just wasn't enough to change my heart.
Now everything's a little upside down, as a matter of fact the wheels have stopped,
What's good is bad, what's bad is good, you'll find out when you reach the top
You're on the bottom.

I noticed at the ceremony, your corrupt ways had finally made you blind
I can't remember your face anymore, your mouth has changed, your eyes
don't look into mine.
The priest wore black on the seventh day and sat stone-faced while the building
burned.
I waited for you on the running boards, near the cypress trees, while the springtime
turned Slowly into autumn.

Idiot wind, blowing like a circle around my skull,
From the Grand Coulee Dam to the Capitol.
Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your teeth,
You're an idiot, babe.
It's a wonder that you still know how to breathe.

I can't feel you anymore, I can't even touch the books you've read
Every time I crawl past your door, I been wishin' I was somebody else instead.
Down the highway, down the tracks, down the road to ecstasy,
I followed you beneath the stars, hounded by your memory
And all your ragin' glory.

I been double-crossed now for the very last time and now I'm finally free,
I kissed goodbye the howling beast on the borderline which separated you from me.
You'll never know the hurt I suffered nor the pain I rise above,
And I'll never know the same about you, your holiness or your kind of love,
And it makes me feel so sorry.

Idiot wind, blowing through the buttons of our coats,
Blowing through the letters that we wrote.
Idiot wind, blowing through the dust upon our shelves,
We're idiots, babe.
It's a wonder we can even feed ourselves.

George Romney released 12 years worth of tax returns to the American people when he ran for president. Since then, presidential candidates -- Republicans and Democrats -- have followed his lead and released multiple tax records for public scrutiny.

All presidential candidates, except one.

Mitt Romney has only released one year of records after persistent pressure.
It raises the question: What does Mitt Romney have to hide?

Romney has some explaining to do:

Romney admits he has huge amounts of money in offshore bank accounts -- but won't say how much money, how many accounts, or where they all are

Vanity Fair reports that Romney set up shell companies in Bermuda and tax shields in the Cayman Islands and Swiss Bank accounts

And, Romney's campaign said it was "unseemly and disgusting" for people to scrutinize his tax returns and business holdings

Unseemly? Disgusting? It's the same thing every presidential candidate has done since 1968. Everyone except Mitt Romney.

So, we have to ask: What's he hiding?

VoMitt Romney an UNPATRIOTIC THIEF AND TRAITOR!

I think that Romney is mistaken again .The people paying the least(2%of the population) will be voting for this parasite from the rich. The tax-paying working people are,I hope, starting to realise that the parasitic Super Rich have always depended on the gullibility of the poorly educated and or deprived to believe their constant claim,Give us the money, you will not be happy if you have your fair share and you don't know how hard it is to be super rich. If they weren't so kind to us they would give away their unfair excesses and live like us. You really believe that? Don't tell me that anyone seriously believes that nonsense

I don't care for his comments (references) but I want to just look at the facts and here are some facts for everyone to consider;

1. Let's not just tax the billionaires, let's take everything they have. If we were to take everything, absolutely everything, American billionaires have; investments, cash, homes, cars, etc., starting with the richest one(Bill Gates) his $54,000,000,000 would be a drop in the bucket compared to the 2011 deficit of $1,300,000,000,000...in fact in would take 24 Bill Gates just to equal the 2011 deficit alone...and if we were to take everything every American billionaire has, we could not pay for the last two years of defecits!

2. The social security fund is entirely invested in U.S. Treasury bonds...and the U.S. Treasury (our government) is spending more than it is taking in by more than a trillion dollars a year....it doesn't have any money, it has to borrow to redeem those Treasury bonds!

3. When interests rates go back up...and they will...the interest the U.S. Government has to pay on it's debt will skyrocket...and will we have to borrow the money just to pay the increase in the interest!

4. Medicare is in the same shape, and this is why Robert Reich, (an Obama advisor) said in an address at UC Berkeley on Sept. 26, 2007, "...we are not going to spend all that money on you, for new drugs and treatments, just to keep you alive for an extra two months...we're just going to let you die"! Yes that's right, go to you tube and check it out for yourself (youtube.com/watch?v=IT7Y0TOBuG4)

Conclusion: There is not enough rich people to tax to pay for all this...this...what we have now...not including anything new we want to add. Everyone...I repeat...everyone is going to have to step up. Not only is the 53% going to have to step up and pay more, the 47% is going to have to step up as well...by paying some tax...or...I repeat or...getting less in the way of a safety net. Only the aged, disabled and seriously ill can be exempted.

When we talk about continuing "the dream" that is exactly what it is....A DREAM. Wake up, where is this money going to come from...and if you say taxing the rich...you're still dreaming!

Who Romney is writing off?

It's worth taking a second to look at some of the people who make up the nearly half of the country that Romney has so much disdain for. Who exactly are these people that Romney rips for not paying income taxes?

The overwhelming majority are seniors, students, people with disabilities, or working families. They pay payroll taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, and more. Those working families include U.S. soldiers in combat, receptionists, firefighters, and clergy, just to name a few. Certainly, those folks aren't short on personal responsibility.

This man is THE WORST PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE EVER

His appeal is directed only to the political extremists, bigots, ignoramuses, and those of arithmetically challenged mentalities. Romney and Ryan, and most republicans, actually believe the non rich of this nation, are here for the express purpose of living and dying at the pleasure of the rich. Lunacy? Romney is a joke! - Our economic problems didn't happen overnight. It's been happening over the past 15-20 years, but the economy was kept going by middle class Americans tapping into the equity on their homes until they were completely tapped out.

It shouldn't be all about Democrats or Republicans! It should be about doing the right thing for our country and the majority of its citizens. I consider myself an independent voter, but going back to the Reagan days and with the only exception having been Perot, I’ve always voted Republican. But all this single-minded, left versus right, ideological one dimensional bull has got to go! This is the problem with our country. It shouldn't be about Democrats or Republicans! It should be about Americans, especially our elected officials, doing the right thing for our country and its citizens.

Both parties have sold out the bulk of the American citizens, who they're supposed to represent, by allowing the "out-sourcing" floodgates to open wider and wider without taking any sensible measures to stem the tide. (Under Clinton jobs to China, Under Bush I & II influx of illegals or cheap easily abused labor into the US and jobs to Mexico/NAFTA) Our leaders are elected by the Citizens of the United States of America to represent the interests of those citizens and the country itself. They are NOT elected by the Global Market Place or foreign citizens!

We need whoever wins the next election to Start Protecting American Jobs and do whatever it takes to bring back the jobs they let go. They've got to give us somebody who will stand up for the American people.

We need to bring manufacturing back to the United States of America and both parties are ignoring tariffs as a way to level the playing field, raise money and bring jobs back home. Let's guess why. Oh that's right, tariff is a dirty word. Hum, maybe it’s that our so called leaders (political leaders) are beholden to the same people who are exporting our jobs.

I guess we should keep letting Corp Boards, Wall Street, CEOs and Foreign Lobbyists promote sending US jobs to countries where they work for slave wages, no benefits, no OSHA safety standards or no real environment regulations. How's that been working for us?

The so called “Global Market Place” is not a level playing field. Companies may have made higher profits by "out sourcing", but they've been putting middle class Americans who are a good part of the world’s customer base out of work. I’m not a lefty or member of any union. I run a business that employs over 20 people and produces products that are purchased by customers that do manufacturing and packaging. I’m just an average Joe, but I've been saying this for more than 10 years now. If I can see it, so can our so called leaders (political leaders) who are beholden to the same people who are exporting our jobs.

We need to add tariffs that are proportionate to the inequities in wages and regulations in the country where the goods were produced and or where we’re importing them from. We could then use the money raised by these tariffs to help companies build state of the art manufacturing plants here in the USA, which would create more jobs here at home for US citizens, which would then in turn increase our income tax revenue.

The people with all of the excuses as to why we can’t or aren’t willing to manufacture products here in the US are the same people who have provided us with the thinking that’s gotten us into this mess in the first place.

Over the past 15-20 years, I've seen too many of our customer's close manufacturing plants here in the USA and move those plants to different countries, decimating entire areas here in OUR COUNTRY. And I'm not alone. Returning jobs to American Citizens will provide income tax revenue to OUR Government versus our government having to pay unemployment benefits to those who would be jobless instead.

Bringing manufacturing back to the US not only gives jobs to the US citizens who would be working in those manufacturing facilities, but to the people that would be working in the businesses that would spring up all around them. This should also include the safe harvesting, production and distribution of our own natural energy here in the USA, rather than paying for fuel from countries where they hate us. Let’s keep that money and those jobs here in the US.

These so-called “free trade agreements” have to go. It was obvious when they were passing these agreements as to what was going to happen and sure enough it did. Our leaders had to have known this as well when they were passing these bills. It’s just common sense. We also need to bring customer support services back to the United States of America and staff them with employees who are US Citizens.

The “Global Market Place” is not a level playing field! The whole idea of the tariffs is so we can pay our factory workers a decent wage and not be blown out by these other countries where they don’t play by the same rules.

We may have to pay a bit more for products made here in the USA by US citizens, but at least we'll still have jobs and a future for our children.

The bottom line is that “Our Government” has to protect American industry and the jobs that those industries provide. If they do that, the rest will take care of itself.

What a bunch of crap. The President's "stated" view was CLEARLY that he supports everybody having a chance! DOES THIS GUY ALSO WRITE HIS OWN DECEPTIVE AND MISLEADING ADS?

Good. Let him stand by what he says. It's about time. It shows what his suit is really stuffed with. The "proverbial" Wolf in Sheep's clothing. Myself, personally, I've been sick to death of listening to him attack and slam the current President, because he doesn't really have a real thought of his own, (except for yesterday's), since he very first started campaigning and through all those horrible, intelligence beating-to- deprivation-circus debates, with Bachman and Gingrich and Santorum and the likes. Another no brainer, here- the "pettier" the deflection- projection, just like this attempt, the more "caught" this Guy knows he is, (and is). But hey, Somebody's got to be the Republican Candidate, right? We can't have an Election without one, now can we? Unbelievalbe!!! He even just said it.........he wants 50 point (or was it plus?) 1%!!!!!! Paul Ryan, second in Command, must have helped him do the "rounding up" math and figuring on that one! "CAKE! Hmm new slogan

No taxation without representation, no representation without taxation - sort of.

I don't think a flat tax would be good, but, I certainly wouldn't complain if the poor did pay something, even if it's 1% of their earnings after personal exemptions and allowable deductions.

Everyone gets a personal exemption of say, $5000, same for dependents, plus health care (insurance & bills), home mortgage interest, Childcare/dependent care deduction (limited to $5000), private school tuition deduction (limited to $5000 per child), College Tutition deduction (limit of $5000 per person), charitable giving, local taxes deducted and business expenses.

Given these parameters you would start paying say a 1% income tax at $7500. A maximum rate of 35%

would take place by say $300,000 where the effective rate would be 17.5% and continue until the effective rate (after deductions) nears 35%.

From NPR:

By grouping those who don't pay income taxes together with those who he says are "dependent upon government" and therefore support President Obama, Romney has earned "three Pinocchios" from The Washington Post's The Fact Checker. It writes that:

"Romney appears to conflate a few things — Obama's approval rating, the percentage of people who do not pay income taxes and people who rely on government assistance.

"There may be some overlap between these groups but they really are not the same thing."

In fact, while Romney seemed to say that the president will draw most of his support from those who pay no income taxes, a Tax Foundation map highlighting the 10 states with the highest percentages of "non-payers" shows most are Republican territories:

— Alabama

— Arkansas

— Florida

— Georgia

— Idaho

— Louisiana

— Mississippi

— New Mexico

— South Carolina

— Texas

hahahaha

What amazes me most about the idiots on the right is this: they accuse President Obama of supporting wealth redistribution but miserably fail to mention the greatest wealth redistribution in this country's history occured under bush/cheney. What is even more amazing is these ignorant right wingers continue to support the very party that took what little wealth they had and have been convinced the Dems are the ones responsible. No matter what you believe about politics, economics, religion, or whatever, it is not OK to insult everyone's intelligence and spirit. Do you want someone who really does think that you are that stupid making any decisions in your life - never mind sitting in the white house? Every day we struggle to navigate a world full of people trying to sell us yet another flask of snake oil. And along comes this godly captain of industry.

T'was the night before elections,
And all thru' the town,
Tempers were flaring
Emotions ran up and down.

I, in my bathrobe
With a cat in my lap,
Had shut off the TV,
tired of political crap.

When all of a sudden,
There arose such a noise,
I peered out my window,
Saw Obama and his boys

They had come for my wallet,
They wanted my pay
To hand out to others
Who had not worked a day!

He snatched up my money,
And quick as a wink,
Jumped back on his bandwagon
As I gagged from the stink.

He then rallied his henchmen
Who were pulling his cart.
I could tell they were out
To tear my country apart!

'On Fannie, on Freddie,
On Biden and Ayers!
On Acorn, on Pelosi'
He screamed at the pairs!

They took off for his cause,
And as they flew out of sight,
I heard him laugh at a nation
Who wouldn't stand up and fight!

So I leave you to think on this one final note...
IF YOU DON'T WANT SOCIALISM GET OUT AND VOTE !!!!

My cousin runs republican campaigns (yes, I still love her) in Phoenix - I wonder if she engages in this stuff? It must be hard to sit on a story until just the right time to release it...but in Arizona the candidates step on their dinks every day - so need to sit on stories.

My Mormon daughter-in-law even hates Mitt...and Gawd, bless my son for talking her into dropping out of that cult.

Ken the Dem/ With your philosophy of how pointless it is to expect the Super Rich to pay their fair share of our tax burden I can't see you as being a true Democrat. The workers have always payed the majority of the taxes and your argument that the rich can't be expected to pay all of this burden is as always ,the cry of the rich and now the written and signed promise of some of the Rep./T.P. When I experienced my recession in 1969/1972 we had our tough time .I had to hustle to keep employed and even ,at times had to leave my home in San Diego to find work ,leaving my wife with our two children to sometimes live in cheap rooms near whatever jobs I could get.I considered myself one of the lucky ones as I always found jobs within a week .many of my friends were not so fortunate. The P.O.T.U.S. at that bad time for us payed less taxes than me.The Governor of California also payed less tax than I and when this was reported, his remark was That w as dirty pool! Don't tell me about the rich and their taxes. The power structure have their tax expenses written off to the point that many of them pay legally zero. They never support this country, they merely loot it.

@Mystery Rhee#1.90: Regarding "OWS": The will yet lives. Unfortunately, adequate money to support the will is woefully inadequate. We are at an untenable plateau here in the bastion of capitalism. Currency does not circulate enough to sustain growth. The rich have too much, and everyone else has too little. As with the time of FDR, government imposition of balance is the only viable solution.

ProtectAmericanJobs:

Thank you for your excellent post. I am in full agreement. The outsourcing of American jobs are the reason this country is in the mess it is in now. Ross Perot called it, and many thought he was a nutjob. Unfortunately, he was correct. With the implementation of NAFTA and other "free trade" agreements, there was a "giant sucking sound" of American jobs leaving this country. That American politicians defend such agreements solidify that they are truly working for their corporate masters and not the citizens of this country.

It is a shame that "average joe's" can see this so clearly, but have so little power to influence change.

After a couple of months of scratching my head, trying to figure out what is wrong with the Republican campaign, I thought to myself, "Let's try Occam's razor". For those of you who don't know, Occam's razor is basically, "The simplest explanation is most likely to be correct." So I boiled it down to 4 words."Romney is an idiot". But that's not right either. "Romney's stupid" is even simpler.

I think this country is in such an utter state of delusion and disrepair that something extremely drastic and most probably very violent is going to have to occur if it is to be saved from the traitorous leftists / Obama supporters

Are you trying to incite violence or are you threatening to use violence against President Obama and/or Obama supporters? I think it's going way beyond hate when you suggest that violence is the only way for your side to get what it wants. Maybe you should head over to the middle east and join Al-Qaeda, since they are employing exactly the same tactics that you have just proposed. Personally, I hope the secret service comes to knock on your door and arrests you for making a terrorist threat towards American citizens and the president! You right wing neocons are just bottom feeding scum that will resort to any tactic possible, except telling the truth, in order to get what you want.

Another Mutterance:

There's a tape which just came out today with the president saying he likes distribution. I disagree.

WRONG....the tape was just released today by the RNC yesterday. The FACTS:

Romney also referred repeatedly to a new video that was circulated by the Republican National Committee on mid-afternoon Tuesday featuring audio -- allegedly of Barack Obama -- sympathetic in 1998 to the concept of redistributing wealth....The audio, which was edited by the RNC, cuts out after that point and no additional context is provided.

Really 1998 huh? I'm surprised you didn't go dig up a conversation he had in high-school about his real thoughts on Milli Vanilli. Of course in the world of Republican stupidity, a videotape with edited audio from 1998 featuring someone who's voice appears to be Obama's equates to a tape that "just came out yesterday." Good thing its 2012 and we have VIDEO of your dumba$$ finally stating some specifics about how you really feel. Now the only specifics that we really want to see are your TAX RETURNS WILLARD!!!! McReal.....

Sorry, but with all due respect you either believe in Capitalism as an economic system or you don't. I hear people complain all of the time about jobs outsourced overseas to countries that are willingly promoting capitalism. We spread the word of Capitalism to the world as a rebuke to Communism and our economy provided the proof necessary for Capitalism to win that argument. We cannot blame a system that we staked our reputation on for resulting in what it is explicitly built to do: let competition be the driving force behind creating better product diversity and pricing for consumers. I share your disdain for the loss of jobs, but we have not adapted to competition the way we should be. We also have a large percentage of Americans that are convinced Capitalism is the ONLY way for a country to be run, and see no place for government. However, government's job has always been to focus on providing public services and utilities, but ignorance and poor education has led to citizens and government being unable to effectively regulate the corporations that are exploiting the economic system that we pioneered and spread. This is why we need leaders like Obama in office that realize we MUST adapt and we MUST invest in infrastructure to create jobs for Americans, that are done by Americans, for America!!!

@listoire Re; post 1:96: I think you miss my point (re: 1.59), I am not saying that it is pointless to expect the rich to pay their fair share, I'm saying that no matter how much you take from the rich (even taking all their money) we are still deep in the hole and in serious trouble! Yes tax the rich, and I'll let you set their tax rates. And after that is done, and we have collected all that money...we are still in DEEP trouble!

The Social Security Trust Fund, does not have the money that you paid in all those working years, it has been spent. When you get your Social Security check part of it is paid for by money that current workers are paying in, and the rest of it is borrowed. Check out this article, "What Happened to the $2.6 Trillion Social Security Trust Fund", by Merrill Mathews, Forbes, 7/13/2011, at the following site: http://www.forbes.com/sites/merrillmatthews/2011/07/13/what-happened-to-the-2-6-trillion-social-security-trust-fund/

President Obama understands this, and when he said, "We are all in this together" he wasn't just talking to the rich, he was talking to me and to you...everyone is going to take a hit...why...because there is not enough rich people to tax...it's that bad...we have spent ourselves into a colossal hole (and we are making it worse every day)!

I am a Blue Dog Democrat, and my democratic roots go back before the depression (the REAL depression), like you my folks had to leave (in their case the farm) and go pick apples in Washington to make ends meet! I hate giving good hard working people like yourself bad news but the truth is only taxing the "rich" cannot solve this problem!

It bothers me that people seem incapable of seeing beyond one step. Of course 47% will support Obama no matter what. It's the same 47% in polls that haven't moved. It's the same 47% that every anti-Romney/pro-Obama ad is tailored to in order remind them to fear Romney taking away their benefits. It would be the same 47% no matter which democrat was running. This isn't insulting. This is admitting a fact. Why is alright for every Obama ad to point out your benefits and fear-monger about what Romney's going to take away from you, but it's not alright for Romney to admit that the fear-mongering works? You're insulted when Romney mentions it, but you're delighted when Obama does? It's almost as if you're all saying that it's not okay for Romney to use you to muster support from people who believe that we have to fix the problems in the system, but it's okay for Obama to use you to muster support from people who don't want to admit there are problems that need to be fixed--"they can fix all the problems they want, so long as they don't touch my benefits. go tax the rich some more, they can afford it."

By the way, trickle down economics works and always has. Every job, including government jobs, were created because someone had the money to invest. What we need to recognize is that when government wants to create more jobs, they just print more money, devaluing our dollars so that they buy less--in essence giving EVERYONE, rich and poor alike, a pay-cut. Do the seniors want to be able to afford their medicines and the food they need to eat? If so, they'd better demand their government stop devaluing the dollar. Do the people on food stamps want to be able to purchase enough to eat? If so, they had better demand their government stop devaluing the dollar. Do the people on medicare and medicaid want to be able to have their care and be able to afford the out of pocket costs? If so, they had better demand their government stop devaluing the dollar. Do the college students who receive Pell grants and other federal aid want to be able to afford to graduate? If so, they had better demand that their government stop devaluing the dollar. In fact, the only group of government beneficiaries that have no problem with the dollar being devalued are the government employees who are guaranteed raises and rich retirement benefits for the rest of their lives--and they are the people hitting the print button. Go ahead and vote for whomever you wish, but DEMAND AN END TO GOVERNMENT ABUSE!

republicans can't add. the 47% that do not pay tax are republican and democrats. if you make under 30k and have a dependent or more, you probably pay only ss tax. Do you believe that only democrats make under 30k? Ever visit the poor white sections of a republican state? ever been to west Virginia? The media wants you to believe that only dark people are poor or low income. This is why clinton made the comment about republicans and math. Try to follow this: if only 25% of the 47% where republican then it would be impossible for Romney to win an election. he not only needs every single republican vote, he will have to steal some democrat votes or block the voting of democrats. kinda like Bush did.

It's the age old battle... more government vs. less government. Both Romney and Obama's comments reflect these views in the most basic manner possible. Why is this so offensive?

I could care less how big of a jerk either candidate comes across as... I've spent the last four years being "talked down" to by a government that rolls their eyes and tells me I'm apparently not educated enough to be concerned about the amount of debt we are facing as a country. I just want someone that will make responsible decisions with the money that we are forced to entrust them with. I'm forced to live within my means every day of my life. I want a government that I can expect the same from. Apparently this is a horrible point of view to have...

The republican rhetoric just never stops. "Obama wants bigger government." Bigger than what? What it used to be? That's a lie. I don't see the media making mention here of the video that came out yesterday of Obama clearing stating that he believes in redistribution and that people working hard for their money should give it to others so they can have a chance. Exactly how does giving it to someone make them responsible for their own selves. No one that goes to work and works hard everyday should have to take out of the mouths of their families to give to those lazy people who think everyone owes them a living. Go to school, get a job, get off your butts and go earn your own!

On another note... everyone thinks that people who have money are selfish for not wanting more taxes. I would welcome more taxes if I actually trusted the government to use them in a way that would reduce the debt and repair the economy rather than spend them to make the government bigger than it is already and even more unmanageable. What happens when they take more taxes, grow the government and end up in the exact same situation they are in already? Tax the rich again?

I'm all for a plan that will include the democrats’ plan for taxing higher incomes (not corporations... and create loopholes for small businesses when the money is reinvested in growing a business & creating jobs) if they will allow for cuts to government programs so they can get the government to a size that can be managed and afforded. But with the congress/senate acting like high school girls and a president that can't get them to work together I have absolutely no faith that anything like this will happen. THIS is why I'm against raising taxes. It will do absolutely no good until someone can come up with a reasonable plan to use them in a responsible manner. This is a huge reason why they can't get the economy going. Confidence is not there.

Thank you to RealAmericansFirst for consistently posting actual statistics and links to information rather than just regurgitating msnbc bias or fox news propoganda. You stand apart from many of the fools here. That is because the usual standard for these thread comments are:

1. Someone watches fox news or msnbc.

2. Someone then reads this article and blankets generalizations.

3. Another who has watched the opposite channel comes and bashes one person's incorrect blanketed generalizations and contradicts it with their own blanketed generalization...again, no facts actually referenced to tangible places.

You people wonder why these politicians act the way they do and only have to polarize themselves to win things. It's because you are too lazy to actually be informed, and you only want to take two minutes to watch a news channel and regurgitate often incorrect or biased information. As long as this is the standard, YOU are the problem with this country, since only you can get these politicians to change through actually noting what they are doing, not what their network cronies are saying. If you did, you would realize these parties are very similarly corrupt and you would demand more accountability from both sides, rather than just supporting the lesser of two evils. Thanks to RealAmericansFirst for actually posting statistics of substance to try to help these sheep.

IT MUST SUCK TO BE MITT ROMNEY!

No kidding. He's trapped in a classic Catch-22.

His base (just read above) believes he was speaking the truth when he said that 47% of the people are welfare bums with a victim complex who believe they are entitled to government handouts and pay no taxes. Those are facts in the fantasy world where the GOP base lives.

If Romney backs up, they'll view him as a "traitor" and it will only prove that he wasn't a true conservative and was actually a moderate in conservative clothing. (gasp) It will cost him the election.

BUT...if he doesn't back up and qualify his statement as just campaign rhetoric..he looses not only that 47% of hard-core Obama supporters, he also loses the independents, undecided and some moderate members of his own party. A majority of that 47% who pay no taxes a elderly Republicans and white male Republicans with only a high school education. They are living on social security or receiving some form of public assistance and pay no taxes. And ANOTHER segment of that 47% are card-carrying GOP members of the 1%. OUCH!

What's he going to do? He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

IT MUST SUCK TO BE MITT ROMNEY. All that money and no White House. I'd feel sorry for him except that the 15% taxes he pays on the millions in interest he brings into the country from his off-shore accounts ten times more than my wife and I make, combined, in a year.

If he doesn't care about 47% of the country, then why is he running in the first place? I thought he was running for president of the United States, not for president of half of the United States or, more accurately, 2% of the United States.

Oh, I forgot, he doesn't really care about this country at all. He just sees the presidency as a business proposition where he can line his own pockets with other people's hard-earned money, just like Bush did, and if the economy tanks in the meantime, oh, well, at least he's still rich.

While I agree that Bush cronies got rich off the taxpayers, don't believe that anything different has happened on the other side of the isle. For instance, the healthcare bill. Follow the money and read the bill. The people who will get rich are the health insurance companies and drug companies. People continually have trouble differentiating between "health care" and "health insurance". One does not guarantee the other. So, while you play partisan politics realize that none of us has true representation due to special interests.

If he doesn't care about 47% of the country, then why is he running in the first place?

Wow, you liberals hear what you want to hear don't you!

1.) He didn't say "he doesn't care about 47%" he said he has little chance of getting 47% of the country because they don't pay taxes and when you are promised goodies from politicians in exchange for your vote it is hard to compete against that.

2.) Saying he wants to becaome President to "line his own pockets" is stupid. The guy could make 100 times more money in the private sector than he could as President.

3.) Just because you stand against tax increases on the rich doesn't mean you only care about the rich. In fact he has said he would look at closing some loopholes that allow the "rich" to get lower rates in taxes, which means the rich would be paying more in taxes under Romney's plan. Raising the income tax level only hits people with high INCOMES, people like Buffet, Gates, and Zuckerberg all get their money from investments which is taxed at a completely different rate (Capital Gains) and has nothing to do with INCOME. Raise capital gains tax rate much higher and investors simply pull their money and invest it overseas where it is taxed at a much smaller percent.

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, "Pick up your shovels, mount your #$%$ and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land."

Nearly 75 years ago, (when Welfare was introduced) Roosevelt said, "Lay down your shovels, sit on your #$%$, and light up a Camel, this is the Promised Land."

Today, Congress has stolen your shovel, taxed your #$%$, raised the price of Camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!

I was so depressed last night thinking about Health Care Plans, the economy, the wars, lost JObs, Savings, Social Security, Retirement funds, etc. I called a Suicide Hotline. I had to press 1 for English. I was connected to a call center in Pakistan. I told them I was suicidal. They got excited and asked if I have a Back Pack!!.

I don't see the media making mention here of the video that came out yesterday of Obama clearing stating that he believes in redistribution

What you mean First Read hasn't done 6 different stories on Obama's tape? Why that can't be possible seeing how they are not a biased, left wing, propaganda tool for the Obama Administration! (SARCASM ALERT)

The chances of First Read doing a story on that tape and Fiesty being the lead newsvine poster are exactly 0.000000000000000001%. I think hell freezing over, & pigs flying have better odds.

Well Mittens, after thinking through this whole mess with details and percentages I have concluded that you are not someone I would vote for to lead this nation. What you have done in the past pales to what you may do as President. As a Republican I am voting for the other guy. BTW I am on track to pay $25k in federal payroll taxes this year not including all the other taxes I must also pay. keep it up and that 47% will turn into 60% in no time flat.

We all know about the Republicans and Tea Party wailing about spending and "government handouts".

Well... guess which states consistently take in more Federal money than they give back in Federal taxes - you got it, the Red States!

Now in fairness, Conservative states tend to be more rural, poorer, and more backwards than liberal states. So it should come as no surprise that they need more money to stay afloat.

But it is humorous to see Conservative politicians screaming about "big government" and "handouts", and demanding that the liberal states cut spending... but they themselves are the ones who need more money.

America is a soup kitchen. The liberal states supply the soup, and the Conservative states drain the soup, all the while muttering about "handouts".

Exactly Xabre. Ayn Paul Ryan talking about good paying jobs, does he mean the ones they are out to destroy, Union jobs? This country was doing pretty damn well when the top 10% were paying taxes at a 90% rate and half the working class had UNION jobs. If people were once again making a living wage and the Romney's of this country weren't avoiding paying their share the middle class would be buying things, companies would be making things, and most everyone would be helping Uncle Sam.

To be unapologetic, no matter how incompetent, factually challenged, or outrageous their remarks may be, is the credo of the modern conservative movement. According to the Tax Policy Center, over 60% of the 47% pay federal payroll taxes, so they are the so called "working poor". Hardly dependent victims looking for a hand out. Just hard working people following the tax code. Some are too young to work, some are too old. Some are totally disabled, including 700K disabled veterans. Virtually all pay sales tax(where it exists), property taxes, even if they rent(landlords pass that cost along, those in federal housing do not), gas taxes if they drive, or "sin taxes" on tobacco and alcohol, if they drink or, smoke. Yes, the Republican base has been propagandized to believe any number of absolute falsehoods, because they are oft repeated, not because they're fact. "We Built That", is the latest fiction, a phrase brazenly edited out of context. Yes, part of the companion socioeconomic dogma attached to "supply side" economics, has said for over 30 years, that there are millions who are living high, off the hard work of others, without making any distinctions. This dogma isn't about factually informing. It's about distracting and angering voters, from the truth; how outsourcing and downsizing jobs, has savaged our once prosperous, confident middle and working classes. The irony and insult of a outsourcing pioneer(Mitt), telling someone whose family wage job is now in China, that the $8-10/hr job they now work hard at, somehow makes them a freeloader, because they no longer earn enough to pay federal income tax, in the mind set of Mitt, and those who choose to believe this ridiculous propaganda....

Not something that is bandied about by the media or the politicans but them's the facts. Ozzy; No society that embraces a market driven, capitalist economy, should tolerate those whose circumstances allow them to work, not doing their level best to provide for themselves. However the perception created by Mitt(and the conservative media) by claiming because 47% of the population pays no federal income tax, that they aren't paying any taxes is bogus. Even when you ferret out the 60%+ of that 47% figure, that do work, to claim that everyone else is shirking their personal responsibility is demagoguery and not a valid claim, in a reasonable discussion. The vast majority of the rest that don't work, are retirees who would emphatically dispute that their Social Security is federal aid(and that they have a dependent mentality), are totally or, mostly disabled, are military retirees, or are single women with dependent children under two.

When you use the phrase, "many" are capable of working and just don't want to work, it is merely an assumption, or an exaggeration, for effect, or to support your statement. If you're not a complete idiot, to use your parlance, I challenge you to find a credible source that can accurately quantify this number of deadbeats and the benefit they receive. Sure, there are criminals, or those who live on the street and may improperly receive food stamps. But those numbers are tiny, in contrast to 47% of the population.

But this discussion started because Mitt, like the conservative media, incorrectly and factually overstate these numbers to begin with, because they want hard working citizens like you, to improperly believe that half the country is coming for the others resources(the 47% is what sticks in most peoples head). It's all part of the companion social dogma, to the tenants of Supply Side economics. Everyone is being bled to death by a large lazy portion of the population, that wants you, to pull their weight. It's a cynical and factually incorrect proposition, to distract from how many of those at the top have, sabotaged the American dream for many of us. It keeps those with divergent ideas, from collaborating and intelligently compromising(they want us distracted, fighting among ourselves), to find the most functional solutions, to revive the nation's once robust and confident, middle and working classes, the greatest driver of consumer demand, of any society, in the modern economic history of the planet.

Judging from how emphatically you state your perception of what is included in our Constitutional framework(that's a whole different discussion), the demagoguery has done it's job. You're pissed. But at the wrong people.

Have a good evening, my friend.

Ozzy...I do not work. I am retired and disabled, yet I do not get a damn thing that I have not already paid for myself, I don't owe you a thank you , nothing. because I stood on my own feet for over 50 years. Romney would consider me one of those parasites because I was not born with a silver spoon up my arse. He has no concept of what is fair, only what enriches him and others of his ilk. He has no concept of foreign policy and would jump for joy to see the USA embroiled in war. His cronies would be making a bundle while our soldiers die, most likely so he can enrich his own greed. Many who are capable of work can not find jobs, so conveniently outsourced by Romney and others to whom the bottom line and profits were more important than the stability of our economy.

I am also a veteran, and the fact that Romney would throw us under the bus makes me angry as hell. I would like to meet him on a field of honor.

It is fortunate for his family he never did go to a war zone. I have seen people like him returned home in a box and can tell you with certainty that they were not KIA by an enemy, they were shot in the back for recklessly endangering their platoon while they themselves cowered in fear.

He represents to me all that is evil and wrong with our society. He is not a Christian, he is a minion of Satan, one of the great deceivers. His arrogance is beyond comprehension, a bloated plutocrat. He seeks to create an oligarchy in the USA and I see him as public enemy number 1, a domestic terrorist, guilty of treason and a traitor to this nation.

I highly doubt that the number of those receiving federal benefits and are abusing the system excedes 5%. In Canada, with it's more robust social safety net, abuse is only 3%. This is a small price to pay given the benefit of higher upward mobility in the Canadian economy, and the higher family net worth.

The statement itself reveals the total disregard, by the republicans, for the welfare of the foundation of this nation. Additionally, It reveals the truth of the present "Presidents" travails to tend that welfare. The statement lends solid factuality to claims of republican undermining and obstruction of this good mans efforts to govern. It also illustrates another basic truth, which is; we have yet to feel, or see, the governing style, efforts, and policy implementation of President Barack Obama, to the extent, any can offer an accurate judgement of what these could accomplish, or not.

This was a very crude statement, by a very crude man, but, most alarming, It was a very dangerous threat to the republic, made by a very dangerous political party that wishes to be at the helm of the very same republic It so callously denigrates.

@johnQcitizen#3.10: You speak a true oddity. Americans in general, are among, if not the most, ill informed people, certainly of the industrialized world. This likely has been the case since the founding of the nation, but gone unnoticed, due to the overall dynamism, as recorded history reveals, of the nation, and the people, upon the rest of the world. While the people and country did experience a similar mess during the great depression, FDR quickly developed and involved the people in a designed dynamic appropriate to the refocus of the peoples efforts to relieve themselves of the tangles of that mess, which they accomplished. Many will argue it was really WW2, however that proposition isn't worth contention since the desired effect was accomplished. That one, as the present day "Great Recession" was brought about by republican governing debauchery, the difference of then, as opposed to today though, the democrats were in a position to act in support of the repairing President, and in fact did so. Today however, we have a republican Congress committed to the "holding on, and political and financial exploitation" of their mess at the expense of both the people and the country. Since ill informed, and angry people wish to blame someone, they will generally cast their aim at the highest point.

Romney says: "We need to have enough jobs with good enough pay so they can pay taxes." No kidding and how is an outsource queen going to create those jobs. Here is a clue Mr. Romney. Force all public owned corporations to pay our minimum wages wherever they go. This would show a little respect for workers and bring back many jobs.

What we don't need is someone to tell us we need more jobs and then support treaties and tax breaks to help corporations outsource for slave labor.America will never be health until we control our corrupt corporate and financial systems.

Why not make all government guaranteed loans directly for a small interest. This would would reduce house notes and rentals by half or more and leave trillions in the hands of our people instead of thieving banks. We are crazy to pay a bank 600k for a 200k house when the tax payer backs the loan. Imagine how this would stimulate the economy and have small businesses growing.

Everyone knows that outsourcing is the big cause of our decline, I'm tired of those that say we need jobs and aren't about to take the necessary steps to bring them back. Instead we keep pumping up the market and the banks while the people sufferer. We have corporate CEOs making hundreds of millions while they work children for 12 cents an hour. This is the cold blooded evil that is destroying America. Our big banks with trillions in assets have been getting billions in 0% loans, These pigs are using our own money to drive up the price of gas and other essentials. Three giant banks control 80% of the oil futures and totally manipulate the commodities market. What would Romney or Ryan do about these real problems?

The capital gains tax where most giant money is made is only 15%. Romney and Ryan both want to cut this tax to 0. That is insane, unless you are a wall street billionaire with no values. In short we are told what we need, as if we didn't already know. What we aren't being told is on damn real change they would make to turn this country around. We need real and basic change or we will soon be in depression and chaos.

You damn right the think they are entitled. After all they bought most of the government. The audacity of these pigs is unbelievable, they complain like over regulation is the problem when its obvious they have a license to steal. Let us never forget that most of this unearned wealth comes off the sweat and blood of underpaid labor. We will force real change or these pigs and their prostitute officials will destroy every thing worth talking. about.

A lot of social conservatives are retirees, the elderly who want traditional family values they grew up with (women should be in the home, marriage is between a man and a woman, etc)... and of lot of them are on social security and dont pay taxes. Romney doesnt care about them....

Did Romney ever look at where the highest proportion of people who didnt pay taxes were located? 8 out 10 are in Red States. Way to shoot yourself in the foot

You have got to be kidding me. He should just shut up now before it gets any more pathetic. If i hear him say more take home pay one more time i'm going to vomit.

Wouldn't it be nice to see what Miss Mittsy's "take home pay" was when the rest of the country lost all of theirs??? His party's policies forced thousands into poverty over night and he ran off with millions.

Miss Mittsy has a lot of nerve talking about people paying taxes while he's sitting on his Swiss bank accounts.

Nice try with the "envy" talking point, ron. It is still irrelevant and doesn't work, but keep trying it...it simply makes you look like you lack any creativity or independent thought. A lying sycophant is a lying sycophant with or without money, ron - which explains why someone like you can support someone like Miss Mittsy.

When woman pants Romney bought companies, borrowed against them, stole took the borrowed money, bankrupted said company and pocketed the now unemployed workers pensions, who bailed out those pensions? VoMitt Romney's been playing by a different set of rules from the rest of us. His tax rate is half that of your average American, and he's stashed the difference in offshore accounts from Switzerland to the Cayman
Islands. As CEO and sole owner of Bain Capital from '99-'02, he received $100,000 a year in salary for a job now he claims he didn't have at a company whose decisions he refuses to accept responsibility for.

I am tired of reading on this post how the military doesn't pay taxes. NPR is wrong on this one and I should know I wore a uni from for 27 years and I paid both federal and state income tax. The only time our income isn't tax is when were in a war zone for federal income tax but blue state like MA are still bloodsuckers and I get to pay whether in a war zone or not. Please stop listening to some liberal on NPR who has never wore a uniform and probably doesn't know anyone in the military.

Actually Romney has a lot of ideas. One he talked about a lot-and was quite proud of-at Emory in 2010 was "creative destruction". This was two years after he successfully implemented this model on Kay Bee Toys. Remember them? Bain pulled their venture capital model whereas Romney and Co. ran up huge loans, pocketed that money, defaulted, declared bankruptcy, "reallocated assets" (stole the pensions of the workers and anything else of value), and closed 460 stores.
              Mr. "job creator" himself.
And people STILL want to vote for this criminal?
Tony Soprano would be jealous of Romney's tactics: he's made more money and is considered a "good businessman".

According to government records, 400 of the richest Americans in 2009 paid NO taxes. Was Romney one of them? And, to add salt to that wound, in 2009 when their investments tanked, they also got handouts in the form of tax credits for their investment losses. Do you know ANY country of the world that would insure NO losses on high risk investments by taking taxpayer dollars and handing it to high risk high rollers on Wall Street? You bet not. So what is Mr. Romney talking about?

Second...It was Ronald Reagan who signed that Earned Income Tax Credit and George W. Bush who increased it in value in 2006. Romney is an idiot. Or a dumbass rich boi too far removed from intelligent Americans who see through his wealth entitlement BS.

The reality of that 47% is this. Whether or not you are rich or poor, so long as you have dependents, you are eligible for that Earned Income Tax credit. Look at that for what it is...it means that those who do pay federal incomes are all single income earners who no dependents.

I think Mr. Romney is the victim of Norquistian sabotage to get him to bumble so badly that they will secretly insist he resign from his candidacy thereby leaving it to the little Tea Party Twerp Ryan. The RNC knew that Ryan's attack dog Tea Party posturing wouldn't win many votes. But, if he could step into Romney's place...every bully boi of the GOP would be dancing a jig.

You can NEVER EVER place faith in what Republicans make visible. It's what they intend you to see and as for what the Republicans say, it's doublespeak refined to an art.

Most of the newly poor have worked all their lives and paid into the system only to see it all slip away as they wave goodbye to job after job going away. He has not uttered one word about his great plan to create jobs! If this is such a great solution why isn't his campaign screaming it from the rafters. With him in office we will see more and more of our family, friends and neighbors lose everything and join the ranks of the poor that he seems to loathe so much. Put your money where your big mouth is Romney! Pay more taxes and give us a count of the jobs that you created in Massachussetts and at Bain, please only count jobs in the US!

Romney is absolutely right in his comments. Victimization and federal dependency have been two of the main democrat strategies since Johnson's Great(?) Society. That's one reason why democrats regularly get 90+ percent of the black vote in most elections. Since 1968, federal social spending(programs like Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, education, welfare, etc.) has grown from 32 percent of the federal budget to 67 percent as political hacks on both sides of the aisle have added more and more handouts to the budget. Over the past 45 years, most people have come to look at these something-for-nothing programs as a natural right and would scream bloody murder if someone should suggest they be cut back or eliminated. To all those people who claim Social Security is a contributory program, you're partially right. But so far, the majority of people who have gotten Social Security payments from retirement until death have gotten far more out of the program than they paid in while they were working. The Boomers will be the first generation who will be lucky to get their money back from the system. Unless drastic steps are made to change the program, every generation after the Boomers will be net losers. In 1948, a statement was attributed to Norman Thomas, the six-time presidential candidate of the American Socialist Party. He supposedly said, "The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of 'liberalism' they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." Who actually made the statement is irrelevant. Ever since the days of FDR, the prophecy has been coming true.

Romney is absolutely right in his comments. Victimization and federal dependency have been two of the main democrat strategies since Johnson's Great(?) Society.

Is that why red states have more of the "47%" than blue states?

As usual we have to hear the Paranoid, Delusional Rant about socialism

While we deal with massive tax cuts for the wealthy and Corporate Welfare

In Romney's speech bashing President Obama, he said, "It's still about the economy, and we're not stupid."

Yeah, it still is about the economy, stupid. It's about how hucksters like VoMitt and Bush who crashed it, the middle class paid the price, and the top 1% got more tax cuts.

And all the delusional, paranoids can come up with is the SCARY WORD SOCIALISM

Only 4 red states pay more taxes than they get back from Uncle Sam.

27 red states get more back from Uncle Sam than they pay.

These are mostly the southern states. The deep south is where most of the welfare queens live.

I am shocked that Romney and Ryan are criticizing American families who rely on public schools to educate their children.

Also, shocked that Romney and Ryan are going after seniors who worked all their life and now rely on government run Social Security and Medicare to survive. I truly feel bad for those with Alzheimer's, for they are defenseless to the Romney/Ryan attacks on them.

Public Schools are still by-and-large paid for by local Property Taxes.

The Federal Government only got involved with education thanks to Jimmy Carter and his creation of the Department of Education (a payback to the Teachers' Unions.)

Hundreds of billions of dollars and 30+years later, national test scores haven't changed a bit. Nada. Nil.

Just about every "Evil" Republicans is in favor of spending whatever's needed to get the best education for our future generations. "Compassionate" Democrats, on the other hand would rather continue to throw money into a bureaucratic toilet that's been a proven failure (and bankrupt us all in the process.)

Yeah, I mean those teachers should just work for FREE if your kind has anything to do with it because "they should be doing it for the children", and ONLY that, not earn a living in the profession you equate to "union thuggery and laziness". Like everything else, education should only be for those who can pay mega-bucks for it. That is why my taxes are being funneled to private, voucher and charter schools via the Walker "budget" as they're taken AWAY from PUBLIC schools which MY children attend. On that same note, those "private institutions getting MY taxes" are not even required to have their books audited by the state, THEIR teachers have a degree or be trained to deal with special needs students, take ALL children the public school system does or their students be required to take state exams, yet get a free pass on "their students are doing just as well as those in the public schools". It is complete BS and lies to push education to an all privatized system while weeding out the "undesirables" who will eventually NEVER be able to afford it.

Its a fact that the Chicago teachers are making about $75,000 a year on average, and only 20% of the 8th grade kids are reading at an eight grade level. No one ever said teachers should work free, but because of the unions, teachers who have tenure are safe in their jobs no matter what !!! That is crap, there needs to be some sort of accountibility here----this has got to stop. Teachers should be paid well, they earn their money, but the public should also expect some results if these teachers are going to keep their jobs and their benefits.

I am Sancho...Former President Carter wouldn't have needed to create a Dept. of Education if the red states would stop using federal funds for other purposes to fund education. Government doesn't have to step in and only do when the dumbass DogPatch states refuse to fund education properly.

Of the states who have the lowest incomes...all are red states including Big Rich Texas, that "Whole Other Country" who keeps their Big Oil Big Daddies rich, fat and doubleassed by taking education funding and handing it to Big Oil instead. Then, these red states run to the rest of the states to cover what their state taxes should be covering. All while these red state Republican politicians pander to their corporate cronies. Tell us again? How did Ryan go from an income in 2008 of $950,000 To over $2 million in 2012? Add McConnell, Boehner and Cantor to that addition of $2 million to their former 6-figure incomes. Forget Issa, that too big to fail too rich to change rich boi is the wealthiest of the GOP and even his income jumped from $200 million to $280 million.

Nice work, don't you think? They invest in high risk investments. No loss...if the investments tank...taxpayers will hand them tax credits for their losses. Works for them. Just not the Middle Class bearing the brunt of wealth entitlements like Romney's.

Curious thing...In the last 3 speeches by Romney and Ryan, they used the word "I" or "me" at least 20 times. In the last 3 speeches by President Obama, he used the words "we" and "us" more than 20 times.

Prior to "Jimmy Carter" signing a law making the "Dept of Education" a stand alone agency, it was something callled; "the Dept of Health, Education, and Welfare". Additionally, the Federal government has been involved in "Public Education" since 1867. Simply hitting Google or Wikipedia, then posting whatever either one reveals, without any basic knowledge of the subject matter will generally illustrate the posters lack of knowledge. Facts must, and do, have a basis.

                      * Executive Order 10995 allows the government to seize and control the communication media.

                      * Executive Order 10997 allows the government to take over all electrical power, gas, petroleum, fuels, and minerals.

                      * Executive Order 11000 allows the government to mobilize civilians into work brigades under government supervision.

                      * Executive Order 11001 allows the government to take over all health education and welfare functions.

                      * Executive Order 11002 designates the Postmaster General to operate a national registration of all persons.

                      * Executive Order 11003 allows the government to take over all airports and aircraft, including commercial aircraft.

                      * Executive Order 11004 allows the Housing and Finance Authority to relocate and establish new locations for populations.

                      * Executive Order 11005 allows the government to take over railroads, inland waterways, and public storage facilities.

                      * Executive Order 11049 assigns emergency preparedness function to federal departments and agencies, consolidating 21 operative Executive Orders issued over a fifteen-year period.

                      * Executive Order 11051 specifies the responsibility of the Office of Emergency Planning and gives authorization to put all Executive Orders into effect in times of increased international tensions and economic or financial crisis.

                      * Executive Order 11310 grants authority to the Department of Justice (NOTE: that's Fast and Furious Eric Holder!) to enforce the plans set out in Executive Orders, to institute Industrial support, to establish judicial and legislative liaison, to control all aliens, to operate penal and correctional institutions, and to advise and assist the President.

                      * Executive Order 11921 allows the Federam Emergency Preparedness Agency to develop plans to establish control over the mechanisms of production and distribution of energy sources, wages, salaries, credit, and the flow of money in U.S. financial institutions in any undefined national emergency. It also provides that when the president declares a state of emergency.Congress cannot review the action for six months.

It is more than clear that Obama is planning for the total control and takeover of America via Martial Law. Food, energy, transportation, work, banking, and health: he has it covered.

While Obama is busy pulling executive orders out of the sky to control everything inside our country, he has been issuing executive orders to force us to submit to international regulations instead of our Constitution.

All one has to do is see where the numbers of the 47% are (mostly southern red states) and see how many are on welfare (mostly whites) and there you have it. But you don't have to believe me. Actually, this is all really simple... You've heard the statement, "IT'S THE ECONOMY, STUPID." ... right? Well, if anyone cared to check the truth... you would see that the problem is basic... It's DEMAND... Demand for services and goods are at an all time low.... Why? People don't need anything? Nope... They don't even have the money for things they do need... The ONLY way to have more demand is to get more money in the hands of the middle class systematically and on a regular basis for at least awhile.... hence... redistribution. If you increase demand, you increase the need for hiring ... as people attain jobs, they lose the need to be redistributed to...

For Romney to think that he can increase jobs without demand is just foolishness... and shows again how out of touch he is with what is really happening... It is all so sad what greed and fear has done to good, well meaning conservative people... That aside, it simply comes down to: "IT'S DEMAND, STUPID!"

Liberals are just like conservatives, we work, we own homes, we are responsible citizens that don't live on government handouts. The only real difference is that we are not stingy and are willing to work and share with the less fortunate. You remember like Jesus wanted. But, I wouldn't want to be associated with the so called right wing Christians that put greed and tax cuts above all else like Romney does.

Romney would let American children go to bed hungry for more tax cuts for himself, now isn't he the patriotic one?

The Tax Policy Center estimates that 4,000 households with incomes over $1 million ended up with zero federal income tax liability in 2011. Another 14,000 made between $500,000 and $1 million.

is division of “makers” and “takers” isn’t true. Among the Americans who paid no federal income taxes in 2011, 61 percent paid payroll taxes — which means they have jobs and, when you account for both sides of the payroll tax, they paid 15.3 percent of their income in taxes, which is higher than the 13.9 percent that Romney paid. Another 22 percent were elderly.

Except that payroll taxes are paid by the employer - that way workers don't see the taxes being taken out of their paychecks/pockets.

That's not true. I've had FICA come out of every single paycheck since I started working as well.

                          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Insurance_Contributions_Act_tax

Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) tax ( /ˈfaɪkÉ™/) is a United States Federal payroll (or employment) tax[1] imposed on both employees and employers to fund Social Security and Medicare[2] —federal programs that provide benefits for retirees, the disabled, and children of deceased workers.

HNL - have you ever received a pay stub? Since employers are legally required to provide employees with an exact documentation of all money withheld from their pay checks, my only conclusion is that you have never had a job or have worked illegally.

Agreed, running for president of a country and then attributing half the population as freeloaders because they are not voting for him. Then on top of that imply that its not your job to care for 47% of the population of that country, that obviously falls in both parties.

Who the hell do you think you are?

Your position is accepted, but you are missing it, sort of. Mitt Romney is an elitist, a top tier guy, who was shooting off his mouth, trying to impress a bunch of rich, country-club types. What shows his stupidity is the fact that the catering staff was still serving the attendees. He was basically telling those seated that the freeloaders, the slackers, the victims, were walking around like "happy feet penguins" just looking for the crumbs dropped on the floor by the wealthy folks asking those great questions.

Wait a minute, Obama is talking about paying the FAIR share. Is 47% not paying federal taxes fair, why should 53% bear the rest? I have no problem on making the upper tier go back to the Clinton rate, but as well all should pay something in. Okay not all, how about 80% of adults , the 80/20 rule should be the law.

The sleight of hand is the term "paying taxes". The majority of people have their taxes deducted from their paycheck. Therefore they don't "pay taxes". Their taxes are deducted.

No Steve, that means that 47% of tax payers have not federal income tax liability at the end of the year and get a refund of every dime in federal income taxes that were with held throughout the year. Some even get more back than what they paid in because of refundable tax credits. So, those people actually get paid by the tax revenues that the rest of the tax paying public pays.

                                  You get it?

Both income taxes and payroll taxes are federal taxes, and payroll taxes make up 40% of the federal income.

50% of Americans own just 2.5% of America's wealth, and yet we pay 20% of the taxes. Just not so much income taxes.

Rick...It's obvious you live in a red state. I live in NJ...highest property taxes in the country. 7% sales taxes on anything the state deems taxable. This doesn't count fees for water and sewerage, garbage pickup, electricity, natural gas, cable TV and telephones. Nor does it count the fees for automobile licensing and registration. Or the gasoline tax.

If you have or had children, you were eligible for an earned income tax credit. So you are part of that which you demonize most. The people in this country who get hit the hardest are single income, no dependents, taxpayers.

So while I am ineligible for an earned income tax credit, I am zapped to hell with every other tax NJ government can possibly devise. Which, I wouldn't mind so much if NJ got the kinds of return on our federal tax dollars these red states are getting. Only 4 out of all the red states get a federal return equal to the $1 they pay. The rest all get nearly double what my state gets...61 cents for every dollar we pay. That means, NJ is subsidizing red states like Big Rich Texas, Alaska, LA, MS, GA, TN and KY to name a few.

Romney doesn't believe in redistribution of wealth. Ok, next time he is near a real news network, perhaps they can ask him a little follow up:

The GI Bill and VA hospitals take tax money and redistributes it to generally non-wealthy vets to help them afford education and health care - does he have a problem with that?

Medicaid takes tax money and redistributes it to people with disabilities who cannot make millions like Mitt; it also helps pay for nursing home expenses for millions of elderly no longer able to take care of themselves, much less earn a living -- does he had a problem with that?

Pell Grants and federal student loan programs take tax money and redistribute it to teenagers who otherwise could not afford the opportunity of a college education because they don't have wealthy parents -- does he have a problem with that?

On the other hand, farm subsidies take tax revenues, much of those from people earning less than $100,000 a year, and give them to farmers who in a huge number of cases are factory farms whose owners have net worths well in excess of those paying the tax dollars being redistributed. Is he ok with that? (I could use oil companies, sugar growers, etc. in the same example.) And laborers pay a higher rate of tax which is functionally redistributed to wealthy investors in teh form of a lower tax rate on hedge fund management income. Is he ok with that?

By all means, lets have a serious talk about redistribution.

You forgot about the redistribution of wealth that have been going on with tax cuts for job creators during the past three GOP Administrations, the same "Job Creators" who have chosen not to create jobs, but just buy more stuff, and accumulate more wealth. So far, they are up to 44% of all of America's wealth, not too bad for only 2% of the population which started out with 8% in 1969. Now Romney and Ryan want to do it all over again. If a political party works to destroy the middle class by supporting the top 2% with tax breaks, and failed trickle down economics, no wonder they can claim they are paying almost 50% of all taxes. The top 2% income has only gone up 275%, along with that redistribution of wealth while the 98% has lost 36% of all their wealth, and lost over 10% of their income.

Thank you GOP. Now Mitt wants to do it all over again.

Bet he had to tell Michelle not to take any more vacations during the last part of the campaign here since she has already spent 10 MILLION of taxpayer money on vacations this past year alone... 10 MILLION...that right folks! Oh and David Letterman who is he distributing is $400 million to and Beyonce...she needs to distribute her $500 million. (oh and possibly Tom Hanks...his net worth is about $350 million. ATC333 is right on the mark. In addition, when the government allowed American Corporations to move production facilities offshore, and then allowed the profits from offshore transactions to not be repatriated for income tax purposes, the deed was completed. Checkout General Electric and the production facilities built in China over the last fifteen years. GE Pays "zero taxes" on billion in profit. Keep posting, Walt.

Thats why they must cheat in every election , they use to stuff the ballot box this time they will stop Democrats from voting . ............. The Republican Party is just about done , especially if the Democrats take the House and Senate After Obama gets Re-Elected .

I still remember when Bush recieved 4500 votes in a certain county in OHIO ..... The problem was there were only 600 people living in the county .

This is why they don't want him spelling out his plans. Romney will govern for a small percentage of this country, add to that a possible Republican majority in congress and you will leave the majority of the population without a voice in our government.

It is clear that running a country like a company has one clear drawback...you cannot fire a state or a person from being an American simply because they are not a profit center.

It takes somebody who understands business to create jobs. I don't think the 47% that are dependent on the Govt. really want to be dependent. But he has a point - if you rob Peter to pay Paul, you will always have the support of Paul. The difficult part is convincing those people that it doesn't have to be this way. But first you need somebody who can help create conditions for job creation. Given a choice between a good job & welfare, most - but not all - will choose a job.

Being President isn't a job for a CEO. .....You first must be about wanting fellow Americans to live well , To do all you can make their life as good as America can make it ....... We are still that Fort not to far from Plymouth Rock ........ Instead of a community farm that every family must labor in to help bring in a crop , We pay taxes to help everyone else to bring in that crop so we can all eat .......... The GOP has this " I got mine and i'm going to keep you from having your's " attitude .

Like a gop President would EVER "undeclare a war" they start, especially if Robme has this election stolen for him and fascist teahads because "war for profit" makes the mega-corporations he LOVES filthy RICHER. Just look at CHENEY and Haliburton. Bush and the OIL INDUSTRY. They make TONS from perpetual war w/o end while we here at home who need ANYTHING from government to make America better are screamed at for "wanting hand-outs and take care of YOURSELVES".
This is what their "small government" is all about and as The President stated at the DNC convention: "We don't believe government should do everything but it certainly should not do NOTHING either". A totally free-enterprise and it will NEVER be a totally "free-enterprise run system" unless ALL the corporate greed mongers cut off THEIR taxpayer subsidies, starting with the FOSSIL FUEL INDUSTRY. Then on to all the politicians who scream about OUR healthcare, teachers, firefighters and even your snow-plow driver, et all whose so-called LAVISH salaries and benefits are bankrupting the country? You surrender all YOUR taxpayer funded salaries, healthcare and pensions in exchange for that terrific insurance from theives like United Healthcare, Cigna, Humana and the rest of them.
How about WE the people decide what YOUR benefits should be since WE the people employ you? Will the teahads in Congress be all for the Blunt Amendment THEN if THEIR employer-the US taxpayers get to pick their benefits based on OUR moral beliefs?
All these greedy, soulless pukes would be singing a different tune if they had to live the way the majority of US do or be expected to live on what Wal-Mart or Staples pay their employees.

Is the real truth that Mittens is embarrassed because he's a part of the 47% who pay little or no Taxes, is that why Mittens won't show/release his TAX returns? hmmmmmm?

Some of those people who pay no income tax are the elderly who lost their retirement savings during the Bush years. They are now having to work at any place they can find to get some income to supplement their retirement. Many are old and have health issues but don't expect Romney to feel any sympathy for their plight. Just leeches on society according to him.

It seems the public don't like to hear the truth, when it is spoken. They want to continue to live in a fantasy world. What Romney said was true, can't argue with the facts. (except for Liberials).

Poor little jim the reaper. Like the rest of the foxy-notsy herd of politically retarded, he has to create a fantasy of envy and resentment without knowing me, who I come from or where I come from. Making statements as fact that you can not support with any evidence makes it a lie, jim. That makes you a liar...be proud, for that is all you will ever be.

Miss Mittsy needs to release the same information that all candidates have released for years - a standard set by his own father. The only reason I can see for him NOT doing this is that he paid little or nothing in taxes and that he doesn't want the American public to see how and how much he made when the economy was tanked by the Republicans. He can prove us all wrong by following in the footsteps of his father.

Do NOT blame us, jim, for your party's inability to vet your own candidate. You should have had all of this handled in the primaries and yet you were too lazy to do it and have to now lie and deceive to defend the crappy human you ended up with. You are lazy, ignorant and bitter - much easier to be than to take any responsibility for the piece of crap you have offered our nation as a candidate.

                                        Stop being such a baby.

Shockedanddisgusted- As I expected, you skirted the issue and resorted to the usual canned rhetoric. You are the one that made the statement, "and made MILLIONS while the rest of the country experienced the worst economic crash since the Great Depression." Asuming it is true, because of course Lefties don't lie, right? This is the best argument in favor of Romney. While your candidate piles on the national debt Romney has proved numerous times that he is capable of getting this country out of the economic crisis that Obama; not Bush, not Romney, but Obama makes worse.

You accuse me of being "lazy, ignorant and bitter". You aren't even close. But in reference to the way that Obama is handling this country you could say that I am Shockedanddisgusted.

How has Miss Mittsy proven that he is capable, jim? Shall we look into his record as governor? That doesn't really work well for you, does it. Can you provide us with some facts that support your claim?

Miss Mittsy can clear up this whole thing by following the standard that his father set and, yes, you are lazy for not requiring this of him in the primaries when it was appropriate.

You resent anybody that is successful and makes his own living without sucking off the govermnment teat.

You accuse ME of canned rhetoric??? Not only do you tell a bold faced lie, but then you go on to blame President Obama for a situation that Republicans created and has been prolonged by the Republicans now in Congress. Nice little deflection, there, jim...even though it id not working.

So...you are a liar and now deceitful. How much lower do you have to stoop to defend the crappy candidate that you were too lazy to vet??

The worst part about this whole statement is Romney's refusal to acknowledge the truth. The truth is that the 47% of people that he is describing overwhelmingly pay their fair share in taxes. These include people like my parents that are now retired yet pay all sorts of sales tax, mortgage taxes, etc. They also include about 35,000 people that make more than $200,000 per year that have enough deductions (for whatever reason) to not have to pay federal taxes and they also include the poor that although they don't make enough to pay federal taxes pay payroll taxes, sales taxes, and gasoline taxes. This statement shows that Mitt is completely out of touch with reality and doesn't seem to have any interests in working for the betterment of people that disagree with his philosophies. To use a term that Mr. Romney has lobbied against President Obama "the guy is in over his head." It is about time that Mitt face reality that he is not up to the task of being the leader of the free world. He has to understand that he is no longer a CEO and people are no longer going to agree with him because he is the boss, he has entered into an area of accountability where he has to stand by what he does or say. Unfortunately, his record reflects someone without convictions that will say whatever it takes for him to win and comes with an air of aloofness and arrogance that will not permit him to connect with people that are unlike him.

And rest of the 53% that do pay federal income taxes, do they not also pay the payroll taxes, the state taxes, the sales taxes, the gasoline taxes as well. And the funny thing about those 53% that pay all those taxes plus the federal income tax, will not collect out what they end up paying into the system. Yet, all those that pay no federal tax still recieve all the same benefits that do. You cannot equate one tax that everyone pays, regardless of income, to a tax that only certain income earners pay.

Romney say's he donated his entire inheritance and did it solely on his own. He failed to mention that he made that donation 3 years after receiving it. How many could, 'Do it on their own', if they had 20 million or so to bankroll them for 3 years?

Romney claims our navy is the smallest it's been since 1917 even though in reality our tonnage exceeds the total tonnage of the next 17 largest navies combined. When Reagan was elected we had 3 naval task forces, today we have 11. If there's any argument that our military is strained it's not lack of spending it's the constant wars we've been fighting for 11 years in republican wars.

Romney suggests the mere thought of Reagan being elected was why Iran released the hostages on the day he was elected ignoring the deal Reagan made to supply parts for Irans American made tanks and planes they couldn't legally buy parts for.

Romney intends to cut the top rate from 35% to 25% and eliminate capital gains taxes which is most of his income and means under his plan he'd pay zero or close to zero with no explanation as to who or how this would be paid for or how the country would benefit.

How can you say the 47% pay their fair share? How can someone paying no imcome tax, be paying their fair share. To do that means they should be paying something, if they made any money. Romney was right about people that take money will not vote for him, only those that have a stake in the tax process will, because very few people that make money, like to pay double the taxes for those that don't. Govenrment has made it too easy to collect from them. Not to mention they are wastefull, even they admit that 25% of the checks they mail out are fraudulent.

Larry, how many people with 20 million dollars after 3 years would have any money to donate? All you have to do is look at the multi million dollar lottery winners. Most of them are broke after winning that kind of cash, inside 3 years. Another resason I like him. If Obama had that same thing, he would be collecting money from the government after 3 years.

Now we have a clear choice Romney wants to put people back to work which will increase payments to Social Security and Medicare and collect more taxes (hopefully not to go to GSA parties or solyndra) making these progams more stable OR Obama who wants to take the money YOU EARN and GIVE it to those who do choose to earn by working, basically the beginning of a socialist state. Please google socialist government.

What's even more shocking is how many military families are on food stamps. Damn those military leeches who will never be convinced to take responsibility for their lives! So one can only surmise that Romney doubly despises those in the military, who not only make their living on the taxpayer dime but also collect welfare. When can we expect to hear all your good little teapubs publicly call-in out all those military families for the irresponsible leeches they are? I'll be waiting for the outcry, if any of you have the balls to do it that is.

It's music to my ears to ear teabaggers like Nico cry like a baby over his imaginary concept of redistribution. Well, Romney is dropping like a rock in the polls and President Obama will take Mitt's lunch money at the presidential debates. Therefore, Nico and his degenerate ilk better get used to another four years of good leadership because the American people are voting against the GOP/TP/Neo-Fascist Party's failed political ideology and they are voting for a brighter future with President Obama.

Are you afraid to hear the truth? 47% pay no federal income tax. Some are retirees, some can't do better than menial , low paying jobs due to their own misspent youth and/or lack of education, others don't care to work & like welfare, etc. Everyone should pay something!! That's what our progressive tax system covers. It's only Obama who wants different-take from the people who work hard and give to those who don't.

I only paid 2% last year why should I expect My neighbors topay 22% because he/she made more then me. And no, I didn't collect public assistence.
