The release of a surreptitiously taped Romney fundraiser yesterday added to a tough few weeks for Mitt Romney that included Clint Eastwood's appearance at the RNC and President Obama's post-convention bump in the polls. As NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro discuss, with 49 days until Election Day, Romney's destiny may be out of his control.

May be out of his control? It was in his control had he watched what flew out of his mouth. He blew it. He showed us all his true colors.
Wait until the debates. The hysterically, insulting, Birther, "MYTH" while be disqualified as a presidential candidate and there will be an empty chair there representing "MYTH"and the GOP (Greedy Ole Party) hehehehe ☺ Can't wait for the fun; let the games begin.
What a LEACH "MYTH" is!!! To talk about 47% of the America people being lazy coming from a guy without a job is hilariously asinine. "MYTH" pays no taxes. He is entitled.
"MYTH"is finished.

Obama/Biden 2012
Well said Xabre! He showed his true colors, that 47% of people out there WON'T vote for him! How astounding!
And what he said about FREELOADERS in our society, can you BELIEVE IT? the nerve of this guy telling it like it is.
On the other hand, we have Obama who is the champion for all the FREELOADERS, long live Obama!
BTW, national debt per person is now $53,000 for every man, woman, child, elderly person, you get the drift.... $48 of every $100 you pay in federal taxes ---> goes toward INTEREST incurred, how is that truth feeling?
Secret Videos? LOL! ...The Libs do everything SECRETLY...what else goes on in the Obama Administration that NO ONE knows about...Pretty scary...I just know that MORMONS did NOT fly the planes that hit the Twin Towers...Muslims did...They want to RULE the world with Sharia Law...plain and simple....do we pacify them and let it happen...or do we take OUR country back?
Nope to Dope and Chains 2012!
I always enjoy seeing anti-Muslim rants around here. "Harley Chic", do you (or anyone else, for that matter, who enjoys the "We Hate Muslims" rhetoric) actually personally know anyone who is Muslim?
Yeah! Obomney 2012! It's the same thing just two Different political Parties!
Will you people ever realize, you don't have a choice? Voting for a President is pointless.
Obama thinks there are 57 states and he thinks America is a "Democracy" (which there are only 50 states and America is a REPUBLIC NOT a Democracy).
You can easily see Mitt Romney's Lies.
The government is NOT by the people or even for the people anymore, can't you see that we have really no say in our government besides voting for some of our leaders? Can't you see how much our government is breaking our constitution?
We have two choices for president, wish we had 2 good choices, would be a little interesting. Two bad choices just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Yea you millions of senior citizens collecting social security; Mittens and Sirie say to get a job and stop freeloading!!!!
well Noid Muslim philosphy was to spread the word of Allah by the sword. not defending Harley, just there is a bit of truth behind their philosophy. I would hardly call Islam a peaceful world. Just look at history and what happens in the middle east. Apologizing for it won't make it less true.
he said get a job? for what being lazy? I'm pretty sure most of those seniors have already paid taxes. I am not sure what you are trying to get at with that statement.
sirie: I hope you have a long and peaceful life FREELOADING on social security and medicare.
Obama/Biden 2012
Hay, Freeloading Willard show us your taxes
unfortunately in this society, my mother is on SS and HAS to work as well. I'm only glad it is helping out the bus driver for pre-schoolers, a job that she enjoys.
Still, what happened to the golden years of retirement?
Okay, Caesar, but that doesn't answer the question.
...and spreading the word by the sword...is Christianity not guilty as well?
One thing that shocked me in the video was when Romney criticized Americans for feeling entitled to healthcare. My God, Republicans don't think sick and injured people should be treated whether or not they can afford it? Republicans don't understand, when hospitals treat people who can't pay, those charges get passed along to the rest of us. The Democrats have tried to fix the system, forcing everyone to take responsibile for carrying insurance, for everyone's sake.
Right on Harley Chic! It wasn't Mormons that flew into the towers, it was those Muslims and it wasn't Mormons that exterminated 5,000,000 plus Jews it was those er....um....Christians......
So, ok, maybe you really can't lay the blame on all the Christians for that but those Muslims.....
And what about those 47%? Mostly Muslim don't you think? You Betcha'!!!
It seems like even Adolf Hitler is better as a Leader than Barack Obama, at least Hitler did some good for his Country.
Looks like us libs have stolen a page out the Breitbart playbook.
Sucks to be Mitt right now. Come to think of it it sucks to be a Mitt supporter, like yourself, right now.
You might as well face it Romney's biggest problem is Romney.
You just can't stand the fact that Romney was caught showing his true colors. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
Hey Sirie:
Too bad Romney is cutting down his own base. http://www.theamericanconservative.com/where-do-the-47-percent-live/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=where-do-the-47-percent-live
THE "ELEGANTLY STATED" VERSION OF Mitt "R-money's" REMARKS:
"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the President Obama no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, 2.5 million who are the deadbeat families of active duty military and pay no federal income taxes, 62 million who are Social Security recipients that have worked their whole life, and now want a "free ride" in retirement with no federal income taxes on their benefits, 14 million with disabilities who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are somehow victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for their pathetic disabled lives, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it, and pay not a penny in federal income taxes. That's an entitlement. And they foolishly hope that people should in some way, help them. And they will vote for Obama no matter what."
Romney added: "My job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their shiftless, worthless, lives. What I have to do is convince the 5-10 percent of people who are wealthy like me, that are also selfish, that look at voting one way or the other depending upon, in some cases, emotion, whether they like Mitt Romney or not. Getting those emotional voters to vote GOP, getting them scared and selfish, is what this campaign is about."
"I happen to believe instead in a corporate welfare society, where my contributors, pursuing their insatiable greed, are able to employ others at Chinese labor rates of .33/day, hide their wealth overseas, and make themselves fabulously rich so that they can continue to contribute to my campaign. An America where I don't have to prove that I paid any taxes, either."
then or now Noid? and no that was never doctrine in any mainstream Christian sect.
Like I said Apolgozing for them won't make it less true
one of the most uninformed statements. Forcing everyone to take responsibility for carry insurance. except those that can't afford it then what?
campdog, it was a Christian that blew up the federal office building in Oklahoma City, including the day care center. Crazy and murderous is a human failing, not a religion, you racist.
Sick Harley Chick - we get it. You hate Muslims to the very bottom of your soulless core. You are pro-Bosnian genocide. You are against religious freedom. You support bombing Mosques. You get giddy when Sikhs are killed in temples.
Well, there are websites made just for your brand of hatred. Why don't you spew your garbage there, where they actually like your brand of filth. You can even participate from your panic room, underneath your bed.
Willard and the GOP are steadily offending and alienating the American people: women, seniors, the poor, minorities, union workers, moderates, gays and lesbians, and students. The Republican Party has become a party of exclusion, not inclusion, and that is not a strategy for winning elections. They can blame whoever they want, but they are their own worst enemies and they will reap their bitter harvest in November when America reelects President Obama.
President Obama in November! He is clearly our only rational choice!
We learned it from Richard Nixon. Some of us actually READ our history books.
As for me, I'm still waiting to hear what the fact that the tape was made "surreptitiously" has to do with the contents of the tape. Romney has not denied that he said those things.
Or are you saying that he might have said something different if he knew he was being taped?
And what would that be?
Why do you bother to ask? Your eyes are so tightly closed to the truth that you wouldn't know about it if they did it right in front of you.
True. On the Christian side of the ledger we also have (just to name a few): -- the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, the Spanish Conquistadors and the Incas, the Mayans, the Aztecs, the German Peasants' War, and finally, just to bring it more current, Northern Ireland.
We could probably also include Iraq. I left Hitler out because he was only for Christianity until he was against it.
@Anna - sometimes those Christians got a two-fer - Muslims and Jews in the same extermination program.
POLITICO:
50% of those nonpayers earn too little to pay any taxes, and 50% of them get there through tax deductions and exemptions, according to the Tax Policy Center. Of the latter half, 44% use tax deductions designed to help the elderly, and 30% use tax deductions that aid the working poor or children.
Also driving an increase: tax policies pushed by Republicans. The Earned Income Tax Credit, greatly expanded by Ronald Reagan in the mid-1980s, is designed to give money back to low-income workers to increase their incentive to work. And a 2004 Tax Foundation study found the Bush-era tax cuts erased the income tax for 7.8 million families by lowering rates and doubling the child tax credit.
Even 4,000 people earning more than $1 million managed to not pay income taxes in 2011 because of deductions, according to the Tax Policy Center.

well reddevPS im glad you embrace ignorance.
you could but then you would be wrong.
Funny how looking at the big picture of what the world is going through right now, our wonderful country and the other 200+ countries out there, where our focus lies... people getting killed out of nationalism, race, religion, and we are debating which party is best for our country. We all know that both parties share the blame for what shape this country is in. They both tell us how they will fix it, yet neither do anything but fatten their wallets.
It never used to be like this.... how unfortunate that we have gone from the country that feeds the world to the country that can't take care of itself.
I guess I am one of the 47%!! I raised three sons, and as a senior lost my job, out of work for 7 months before relocating to KC for a year, lost that job, unemployed for 1.5 years before working again. Can't pay taxes when there's no income to tax!! How dare Mitt alude to my lack of personal responsibility. Has he ever had $6.09 left in checking account, three little ones to feed, and it's still a week away to payday?
So Harley ..... Take Our Country back = Exterminate MUSLIM AMERICANS?
How Arian of you, dear.
Face it Harley, Romney is done, which leaves you with no solutions to counter Obama's, no Foreign Policy to compare to Obama's. NOt HArley, Not No-JO, Not all the other trolls can recite ROMNEY's SOLUTIONS or Foreign Policy alter5natives
The empty briefcase candidate now has nothing but the hate of Obama to try and elect them on. And even that path is closing down.
Pathetic and low, Romney just isnt worthy to be your President. Just an empty suit carrying an empty briefcase talking to empty chairs.
Romney has no solutions and no core
Active duty military personnel don't pay taxes, so they're leeches. mooches.
Retired military, disabled = yep, leeches and mooches too.
Retired seniors that worked all their life= you betcha, leeches, mooches.
very Young people that do not work, leeches, mooches.
students that work part time or full time that claim the student tuition credit = no vision leeches, mooches.
Parents that work and make less than $49K and single parents that make $43k, that qualify for the EIC (earn income credit) and deduct the interest payments= leeches, mooches.
Disable kids = leeches, mooches.
Disable people= leeches, mooches.
poor people that don't make enough over the poverty level for the # of people in the household = leeches, mooches.
Small business owners that have prior year loses, and claim them on their personal taxes= leeches, mooches.
" Republican is not a political party, is a mental condition"
Can Willard hit any more pot holes along the way?
You BETCHA he can!
He somehow managed to piss off the only voting block he had left in his pocket... lol
Feisty.......I think he hit the sinkhole!
Rough Road indeed …
RCP (Average of polls) as of 9/17/2012 After Conventions, before 1st Debate
9 Tossup States: Tied in one (IA= 6), Obama leads in 7, Romney leads in 1.
Delegates: Obama = Solid(142)+Likely(30)+Lean(65) = 237 +Tossup(89) = 326
Delegates: Romney = Solid(76)+Likely(58)+Lean(57) = 191 +Tossup(15) = 206
Total Delegates: [326+206+6 = 538] Win = 270
Fiesty-GBM - not to out-hole you, but I think he just entered the twilight zone and has flown into a black hole, a place so dense (like Romney) that not even light escapes.
How can somebody who has done nothing but run for office for the past 6 years be so bloody awful at it? If he is this inept and incompetent at campaigning, despite years and years of practice, how can anyone think this turkey is qualified to run the country?
Romney's "rough road" was all of his own making. It's like he started off down a smooth highway, pulled over, slashed his own tires, and proceeded to drive down the highway on his rims.
This is the guy we want in the White House? Er, no.
Al in Visalia CA - He's dreadfully awful because he's coreless.
All these charades of miss-steps just show this guy has no idea of what been a president is all about. Everyone should just sit tight cause there going be more episodes. Think of Mitt, think of foot in mouth decease.
RedDev......well said
Ok folks - I admit it. I relied upon government this year, so I must be part of the 47% that are lazy scumbags waiting for more and more free handouts. According to Romney, I must mend my ways and beg for forgiveness from the 53% for my evil, vile reliant deeds. I looked in the mirror this morning, and quite frankly, I looked almost the same as I did yesterday, well with one minor exception, the glint of shame in my eye for being a lackluster, needy, greedy, low-life, Obama voting, heathen. Gone, is my sense of self-reliance now that I have been kicked out of the 53% Club.
And what of my sin that caused me to be excommunicated from the 53% Club? Damn, I filed my tax return with the IRS (a government agency) and received a government check refund. To be sure, I paid a lot in taxes, but I thought the refund was because I over withheld during the year. I now see the error of my ways. It is beyond pale that I used a government agency, the IRS, and it is simply blasphemous that I accepted a payout from the government. To gain acceptance into the 53% Club next year, I vow to skip filing my taxes and taking any government money in return. I sincerely hope that meets the criteria of living free of government.
On a side note, if I rely upon government to renew my drivers licence and vehicle tags next year, will I again, be excluded from the 53% club?
Here is the REAL story:
Mittens likes to think that he is THE best example of American Exceptionalism. He isn't He has had a silver spoon in his mouth since birth. His daddy's history and money made Mitt another entitled prep. Mitt was handed success, he didn't take risks to attain it. His education was PAID for by daddy's money, and he spent his time at prep schools, feeder schools for the Ivy's. He would be admitted to Ivy, again based on who is daddy was, rather then any personal attributes of his own, especially in the days that HE applied.
President Obama IS the American story. A young man born to a single mom, raised by his grandparents, and must compete and succeed on his own merits.
That some of you don't get this is incredible!
You are exactly right Newday. This campaign proves that Willard did not get to where he is by being smarter or working harder than everyone else. If that were true, we wouldn't have this constant bombardment of incompetence and overall stupidity from Team Willard. He is just a snobby trust fund baby who feels "entitled" to be President based on who he is, not what he has done or what he can do for the country.
well put NDD...R. President Obama is an inspiration to all because if he can achieve the highest office in the land through hard work and persistance, anyone else can achieve what they put their minds to with the same effort. Mr. Romney is only an inspiration to those who were born into the upper crust of society, because regardless if he made his own fortune, the education and connections he received from his father were instrumental in his success story. most of us are not born with those advantages...
The funniest thing to me about this whole video is that he's said all this before (or his surrogates/speakers at the convention said it). Nothing new here, but now that it is coming from the camel's mouth so to speak, people are latching onto it. The debates are going to highlight the stark contrast between these two candidates.
Isn't that the truth, Al? For someone running for President based on his ability to analyze, organize and lead, Mittens is doing a REALLY poor job.
Tzalaran: that silver spoon Mittens has is starting to tarnish!
newdayDAWNING...RETURNED

President Obama IS the American story. A young man born to a single mom, raised by his grandparents, and must compete and succeed on his own merits.
newday,
Another part of the story is "MYTH" is like "The Nightmare on Elm Street"; eerily fictional. HAHA, LMAO @ "MYTH". I just heard a MSNBC pundit call "MYTH"Sisyphus, the one who eternally rolled a rock up the hill which only returns.
"MYTH" is finished; he will never reach the top. "MYTH" is unqualified to have the top job as CIC and the leader of the free world. Look at how he made a joke of homself on Foreign Policy Adventure. "MYTH"also insulted our allies and Communist Pres. Putin .

"MYTH" enabled Communist Pres. Putin
And don't forget, in 1995 Barack Obama wrote a book explaining how he grew up as a Marxist and how his dream was to destroy America.
Google Search "Dreams from my real father".
F6Zman, Obama didnt write that one. He wrote Dreams from my Father.
Here is F6Z reposting this utter garbage on a non-existent book. F6Z, go into a dark cave, seal the entrance, and repeat the following line for a decade, until it sinks in - THERE IS NO BOOK TITLED "DREAMS FROM MY REAL FATHER".
P.S. - Don't be afraid to over-google yourself in that dark cave. You would do us all a favor if your palms turned hairy and 'it' fell off.
F6Zman
Barack Obama wrote a book explaining how he grew up as a Marxist and how his dream was to destroy America.
F6Zman,
Yea and Malcom X was his real father too. That is as ridiculous as your right wing crap; nut
Look Tea Party Raider can you provide the page chapter and exact quote?
You won't find it . That is a Frank Luntz, Sean KKlKanity, Lush Limpballs, FOX NOISE staking point you nuts use to paint our President as "Other".
Stop watching Sean Hannity over @ FOX NOISE because nightly he counts off the same people, Bill Ayers, etc. on his fingers. You don't need anymore "Hand Jive"
NDD -
Amen! And because he is the story of the majority of this country, we will continue to trust him to move this country forward and not some rich snot nosed hypocrite who lets his true feelings out behind closed doors. Say what you will about Mormonism, but that pretty much sums up the way they were raised!
"Dreams From My Real Father" is a documentary encompassing young Obama's life with a Marxist, Frank Marshal Davis.
And I'm sure it has all the validity as "Dreams From My Other 10 Fathers", a documentary about Romney growing up it a bigamist compound.
enough with that crap Bev. You have Tingly Legs and Madcow and Mr. Ed with their emotionally charged rhetoric. you think if you bold it and scream it loud it makes you more intelligent, more meaningful? Those are entertainers. You seem to know a lot about Fox for not watching.
Bev tell my why Obama isn't running on his record? Tell me why FR and the stellar reporters here don't put up an article highlight Obama's accomplishments.
LOL!!!! Good One....
Hey Caesar, please tell us Romney's solutions and foreign policy for the next 4 years. Can you? ......Ill wait
Caesar, your rhetoric doesnt work anymore, solutions do. What are Romney's? Ready...Go!...
" Republican is not a political party, is a mental condition"

Romney: Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory for over 10 years
Detroit-
That's my line!...lol
No respect. I tell ya....
touche'..
He ran for the state senate against a guy who beat/choked his wife
He ran for Senate, first against a guy, a Republican who took his wife (Better known as 7 of 9 on STDS9) to swing clubs against her will.
Then against a semi-crazy guy who didn't even live in the state.
Then, he ran for President against a guy who changed so much of what he stood for in 8 years that he could have been running against himself. If that wasn't enough, a financial collapse 8 weeks before the election.
Now he gets Governor Romney.
The President is either the luckiest politician in history, or the beneficiary of a Republican conspiracy...
You Decide....lol
interesting, i'd never really looked at it like that but you bring up some interesting points regarding a theme from all his election opponents...
that was voyager btw
CA-
Thanks for the correction...Didn't watch either spin-off...at least I got the character name right....
never cared for voyager, never watched it. DS9 wasnt too bad.
David Brooks..
This comment suggests a few things. First, it suggests that he really doesn’t know much about the country he inhabits. Who are these freeloaders? Is it the Iraq war veteran who goes to the V.A.? Is it the student getting a loan to go to college? Is it the retiree on Social Security or Medicare?
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/18/opinion/brooks-thurston-howell-romney.html?hp
The question is would he have beaten Mike Ditka if Ditka ran. Whew, glad the coach stayed in the studio.
IMO - 7 of 9 was a way better clone than Mr. Data (Next Gen).
They say that true character emerges when we act a certain way when we think no one is watching. Mitt Romney's true worldview came out loud and clear-doesn't he realize that the president of the United States is president is ALL its citizens? It would be like a principal of a school who only really attends to the students who are academically "successful", or have parents that are big contributors. Unfortunately, the a school has a variety of students/families as does a nation. Shame on you, Mitt!
Judith, Obama has come right out and said that he is the president of the middle class. Sounds like he himself has said that he doesn't represent everyone, especially those RWNJ's clinging to guns and religion.
No, he has said he is a president who "fights for" the Middle Class--an ever shrinking group in our American society. Our nation became strong economically through the efforts of this "middle class"--factory workers, seamtresses, tailors, carpenters, construction workers, auto workers, nurses, doctors, teachers, welders, electricians, plumbers, secretaries, farmers..etc. And the comments you refer to from the 2008 campaign was deliberately pulled out of context at the time..go back and look at the entire speech to find out more.
Oh, I watched the DNC... you can't tell me that I didn't hear what I heard. And what about the downright attacks on the 1%? It's shocking to me that liberals, who are supposed to be all-inclusive, would clump an entire segment of the population together and make them somehow less human and less deserving of equal treatment. I usually respect the inclusiveness of the left, but this witch hunt (or money tree hunt) is rather startling.
NorCalModerate
You are confusing "middle class" and "middle income." Most Americans feel they belong to the "middle class," regardless of how poor or wealthy they are. It's almost synomonous with being American.
Most people recognize, that people who get golden parachutes upon leaving a company whose profits they drove down, are not "middle class." Hedge fund managers who still get bonuses while their industry tanks are not "middle class." Politicians who do not serve in the military, but who engage in endless saber rattling, are not "middle class."
That's why I say we should repeal ALL of the Bush tax cuts.
NorCalModerate,
The 1% , the richest members of our society would not be rich without a strong middle class. But besides that point, when was the last time you heard of a member of the 1% having to fight with a health insurance company to extend coverage for a cancer patient? or someone on dialysis? or a child with mental health issues, or an amputee who cannot afford a prosthesis. And yet, in the past six months, I have personally heard the above stories from decent, hardworking, tax-paying individuals. There isn't a war on the richest Americans--but it is a re-examination of what it means to be a just society.
NorCalModerate
I wanted to add...there are plenty of 1%ers who share middle class values. I would put Bill Gates and Warren Buffet in that category. They view themselves as a part of something bigger than themselves.
But, there are other 1'ers, and I would put Romney in this category, that have the illusion they "made it" all by themselves. Romney and Ryan ascribe to a prejudice against those who work in jobs that aren't high income: nurses, daycare workers, restaurant workers, retail clerks, artisans, craftspeople, homemakers etc They don'tt value work for its on sake, they only value wealth. It's not just unbecoming it's irrational: this country was built, it wasn't bought.
Like I said, Amy, it's shocking how inhuman you make the 1% sound. As if NOT being in the middle class, or middle income, contributes to a less valuable human experience. Why demonize wealthy people? What about Steve Jobs? What about the liberal wealthy celebrities who are in that maligned segment of the population? I was honestly taken aback by the populist tone of the DNC. (Or, perhaps more accurately, the national convention of the auto workers.) I came away with the impression that democrats want to overpower the 1% and take their money.
Amy italking about a worldview that not all 1%ers share, but is still being voiced by the likes of Mr. Romney & Co. Somehow "success" is still measured in wealth by those who have "made it" into the select few of Billionaires, not by hard work necessarily. Throwing around labels like "liberal" and "conservative" muddies the waters because a person can be a social conservative and an economic liberal, and vice versa. The word here is justice. In a society which prides itself on calling itself Judeo-Christian" the Romney-view is about as far afield of Judeo-Christian ethics and morality as one could get.
The sad thing is that this is how divided our parties are. It isn't really news that half of the country thinks that liberals are freeloaders, and the other half of the country thinks that conservatives are gun totin' bible thumpin' RWNJ's. The divide has never felt greater, and us moderates in the middle are falling into the chasm of hate dug by each side.
What this country needs is someone who can unify the parties and get something done in Congress. The current administration has proven, beyond a doubt, that they cannot work with congress. Obama is not a unifier. The proof is in the pudding. He cannot get people who think differently than he does to come to an agreement with him; instead, he scoffs at them, points fingers at them, and drives them to be even more scary than they already are.
Romney needs to learn to put his foot in his mouth. It's a lesson Obama has learned the hard way, too. What Romney said does actually represent what conservatives think of liberals. I'm sorry, liberals, but there is no deep down feeling of camaraderie with leftist ideals that republicans are repressing. They do not, and will never, agree with you -- even if they do constitute a large portion of the poor in America -- and even if their candidate said something very stupid. And vice versa -- republicans, liberals are never going to come to your side, even though you have a candidate who is very well qualified to know how to fix the economy. They just can't fight the feeling in their bones that is as strong as your feelings. There is a huge gap between you two.
I'm still voting for Romney. Not because I agree with his candid comments, but because I can remember similar disparaging remarks from Obama. Both candidates speak to their nutjob base at some point or another.
I'm voting for Romney because I already know what the alternative can do, and it simply isn't enough. I don't know if Romney has the ability to work with congress either, but there's at least a chance of that. With Obama, there is a proven record of no chance of working with the other side of the aisle.
For both parties -- I wish you would stop digging this chasm that us in the middle are falling into. Praise your candidates instead of disparaging the other guy. Moderate your feelings and realize that no one is perfect, even your candidate (whichever one you are rooting for). Realize that you demonize the other half of the country -- and then ask for their vote -- just as much as the opposing party does. Stop the war cries against the other party, and start the jubilation celebrating all of the positives your candidate can bring to the table.
Because, in the end, none of us would pick a war over a celebration.
BS.
day one republicans picked a war on Obama, before he'd even sat in the oval office for 24 hours they declared war on right wing radio and TV all over the nation. There goes your claim that none of us would pick war over celebration...
You can only compromise when both sides are willing and able, and the republicans have shown nothing if not for the fact that they would sooner drag the country into hell than compromise on anything in their agenda. As much as i dislike many dem politicians, they have not been the ones foregoing compromise, and you trying to falsely equate the republican actions onto the dems is intellectually dishonest.
You claim that the recovery hasn't been fast enough, so you're going to vote to put back the policies that got us in trouble in the first place. rofl. "insanity is repeating the same behavior and expecting different results." - Einstein
"insanity is repeating the same behavior and expecting different results." - Einstein
Exactly.
Romney/Ryan 2012
So voting for a guy that expects trickle-down economics to suddenly work would be insane. Is that your point?
Tzalaran, give me some indication that a republican congress will function better with the president this time around. They're both to blame, agreed. But that doesn't change the fact that the dysfunction exists.
So you're a Mormon voting for Romney- what a surprise.
Huh? I'm a moderate voting for Romney.
NorCalModerate -
The republicans declared that making him a 1 term president was their whole goal. If President Obama gets another term, they (republicans in congress) will have failed at their goal due to the overwhelming support of their constituents for the President and his agenda. Because they would not want to see a repeat of the 2012 elections in 2016, republicans will put aside their mantra of "Compromise is the dems coming over to our viewpoints" (which many of the R pols are currently walking away from in an attempt to win reelection) and work with this president in an effort to show that they can be bi-partisan and compromise to fix the problems that this country faces.
Basically, if President Obama is reelected, the policy of obstruction that the republicans have engineered for the past 4 years will be shown to be against the will of the people, and republicans will have to abandon it in the hopes of being seen as part of the solution, not part of the problem in Washington.
Hope that helps explain my perspective on the matter. gotta run and get my wife lunch now... :)
@NorCalModerate -
So your answer is to vote in all Republicans, the party who drove the economy into the deepest recession America has experienced since the Great Depression of the 20's?
Your quote from Einstein is right except you incorrectly attribute it's actions to the Democrat party.
You are no "Moderate" as exhibited by your willingness to concede to the current Republican ideology, which today is clearly the furthest thing from being moderate. When the opposition publicly tells you that they will not compromise with you under any circumstance then how is it your fault that a compromise cannot be reached? The republican's in the House of Representatives have publicly stated that compromising with President Obama is unacceptable. But, you are willing to give Romney a chance because he is not Obama? I have to question your logic and reasoning of that scenario.
Lastly, you stated that should Romney become President you are not sure he would have any better success working with Congress. Given that statement and the facts of which political party has clearly obstructed compromise how do you arrive at the solution being to vote out the incumbent President and replace him with a man who is clearly unknown, untrusted (by a majority of Americans polled), and clearly unrepresentative of the average American's plight (as exhibited by his own statements)?
Seems to me the way to affect change is to replace the Republican dominated House with Democrat control and elect 60 Democrats to the Senate so that the cloture rule will be null and void. You can't in one breath admit to the partisan divisiveness of the Republicans and in the next claim that the way to resolve it is to reward those same instigators of divisiveness by giving them majority rule.
Sayitaintso, my answer is most certainly not to vote in all Republicans!! I tend to lean republican on national elections, and democrat on local/state elections (since I believe in fiscal conservatism, and that it's the state's responsibility to handle social programs. And I love a good social program.) That's why you think I'm Republican, since I've made my choice for president. As for congress -- I think there needs to be voices from both sides. Obama is just as much to blame as the republicans are in congress. I've seen the reports from both sides. I am in no way saying that republicans are doing any of us a favor by obstructing progress.
What I AM saying is that Obama CANNOT work with this congress. That's a proven fact. So, I can either hope and pray that suddenly the hundreds of voices in Congress change overnight, or I can hope and pray that one voice of the president changes over night. I don't think there's time to wait for Congress to change. And I'm willing to take a risk with Romney; he was pretty bipartisan in Massachusetts. That is what gives me hope.
You are attributing the failure to compromise on the wrong party. President Obama can work with the republicans in congress, if they choose to work with him. They have consistently told him to shove off, and have stuck to their party line agenda to make him a one term president. Above i outlined why i think this attitude will change should he win reelection, and if he wins reelection i think that many of the more stubborn congressional members will be on the way out the door as democrats make gains on Obama's coattails in the election of 2012 (much like happened in 2008. The current congressional makeup is due to the 2010 elections when dem voters stayed home because it was not a presidential election and their apathy rose up and bit the President in the behind).
i'm all for ditching party affiliation as this country throughout history has been a centrist nation, and our prosperity came from compromise to create the most good for the most people. I think that Obama fits this description much more than Mr. Romney does because Mr. Romney has run away from his moderate status as a Gov. of Mass, and has espoused the ultra-conservative views of the far right. The rhetoric of his campaign is a far cry from moderation, and he would have the same polarizing effect as the current President when they try to ram personhood amendments through the congress for an example. I don't see how you can find hope in his tenure in Mass when he himself is running as far away as possible from that tenure...
Tzalaran, I hear ya. The discrepancy in what you and I see happening is that I don't think the republicans in congress will choose to work with the president after his re-election. I think, if anything, it will enrage them more and make them more extreme. I think that's why the tea party is so bad today. Sadly, I think that Romney is the closest to a moderate that the republican party can stomach. Someone truly more moderate like Huntsman never had a chance.
I agree, Romney's rhetoric is too far right. But I also think that this is a calculated move on his part -- to get the nomination in the first place. And I think that sticking to a very conservative tone is also calculated, for the very reason you mentioned -- to get a greater percentage of right wingers to vote and capitalize on any democrat apathy.
But once he's in office, I do have hope of moderation and compromise. I watched both conventions. And for me, the most telling speech came from the democrat who worked with Romney while he was the governor of Mass, former Secretary Jane Edmonds. She outlined how devoted he was to bipartisanship, to equal representation of women in his cabinet, as well as his desire to deliver what he promised. If you didn't see it, you might want to take a look. I know, I know -- what democrat would willingly watch something from the RNC, right? But it is telling and it shows what he's capable of in office.
i see where you are coming from, and i watched the speech you mentioned. i'm a registered independent, was raised as a conservative and was registered as republican until 2002, but understand why i get labeled a dem/liberal when posting on this board. ;) my wife is a die hard liberal, and we had a discussion on how if Huntsman were the republican nominee i'd be having a much more difficult decision as the points you make about Obama not getting worked with by republicans have some validity, and Huntsman has integrity in spades...
i hope you are correct in that if Mitt wins he'll move back toward the center, i just think that the selection of Ryan as the VP eliminated any chance of him moving to the center if elected. The thing that disturbs me the most about the republican platform is their social agenda. as an agnostic married to a wiccan, the last thing i want to see in this country is christian morality legislated across the board, especially when it comes to birth control, abortion, and stripping rights from LGBT citizens. The agenda that Mr. Romeny affirmed in the RNC would put my wife in jail for life because she has an IUD, it would returns us to the back alley/motel room abortions of the 1950s where women died and were even more scarred by the procedure, and it would legallize discrimination on citizens of this country because of the government trying to tell people who they can love. none of these are small government values and are completely against liberty and justice for all in my mind.
These far right social policies, combined with the barrage of untruths that came out of the RNC, is what has turned me completely against the republican party and into the Obama camp. i also think that taxes need to be restored to the Clinton levels and should remain there for all time, as the Bush tax cuts have been proven to be the largest strain on the governmental budget over the past 6-8 years (ezra Klein has a great graph showing how this is true). The Ryan budget is appalling to me in all honesty, and i'm so sick of supply side economic theory (call it trickle down if you want to... all the same monster) that has proven to be an abject failure. Check out Nick Hanauer, venture capitalist, on how the economic driver is demand from the middle class to see what made me reject republican economic theory as the voodoo it is.
Thanks for allowing for a civil debate, you get mad respect from me for doing so. we can disagree without calling each other names, and perhaps if we set a good enough example others will take notice...
And speaking of "entitlement"--Hey, Mitt, neither I nor my children could ever afford show horses and 50,000 plate dinners--we have student loans to pay and are working two jobs apiece--and by the way we are college educated citizens who pay income tax ( and would disclose our returns in a heartbeat if asked) . However, my Senior citizen neighbor has Medicare, Social Security, and Medicaid and doesn't pay income tax because she "earns" too little. Shall we ask her to raise the volume on her hearing aid so she can hear the full import of your plan for America and your disdain for her?
Romney's first house was paid for by his parents?
No wonder Romney doesn't understand average Americans. He simply has never been around Americans who have to work hard, save up their money for a down payment, and work decades just to pay for the mortgage.
That's not true. If you think he hasn't worked extensively with hard-working Americans, then you're turning a blind eye to the many accounts of his generosity and concern. I get it -- he's wealthy, and therefore, he must be evil. That way we won't feel bad when we try to take his money, right?
Sorry... but it is...
Feisty, I wasn't referring to his house; I was referring to his connection with hard working Americans.
Politics aside, RIP, Morgan Freeman.
Yeah! I'm sure hard working Americans are gonna snuggle up with the trust fund baby! lmao
Tell us, how many hard working Americans do you know who were born with a silver spoon in their mouths?
Try fact checking prior to spreading internet rumors for a change!

Don't worry us like that. It was just a hoax.
Don't worry us like that. It was just a hoax.
Phew!
Feisty, thanks for the clarification. Just saw a friend post it on Facebook; glad it's not true.
And as for the trust fund baby, unlike you, I don't think that money makes people inherently evil. And I don't think it makes them incapable of understanding the human experience. There's a lot more to life than money, IMHO.

Yeah, I got that. :/ It was too late to change my comment after I researched it.
No offense, but you just proved my point in spades. Do your research before you align yourself with Mitt Romney's positions.
Sayitaintso, I did do my research. Just a minute too late. As for the presidential race, I've been doing a LOT of research on that, for a long time. It's hardly comparable. But I get it; I earned that easy dig.
Anyone else want to kick me about that?
anyone else...
NorCalmoderate - It seems as if you have already made up your mind, so I have no illusions that I can make you think otherwise. Nor will I be so bold as to question your moderation. I would only ask that you watch the debates. Never one to say my or any candidate is perfect, however I will let the President make his case by showing the progress that has been made, even while forced to tread water with a yolk of GOP obstructionism around his neck. You can listen to Romney's claims that everything Obama has done is wrong while providing no specifics to his plans. Perhaps you want a balance or a sense of moderation in national politics but that will not happen with a GOP sweep of House, Senate and POTUS. Think about it.
By the way, I liked your post about liberal view of Romney and his policies vs. the GOP view of Obama and his policies. We are becoming an extremely polarized nation hearkens me back to Abraham Lincoln's quote drawn from scripture - "A house divided can not stand".
edit - meant to post as a response to #7.0
That's actually one of the worst case scenarios for me - having the same party control both congress and the white house, since it's a recipe for over-spending - but it's not as bad as re-electing a president who had a chance, even had a democratic congress, and couldn't get enough done with the economy. I get that republicans are not helping, and that at least Obama did some great things (like eliminating pre-existing condition limitations on health care)... but it feels like he's taking the country one step backwards, compared to the 10 steps backwards he inherited. While it is progress, comparatively, it's still a step backwards. And there are no bridges left to burn between himself and congress.
If it makes you feel any better, I'm a Romney supporter in California -- which means my vote doesn't count for much at all. To echo what Kerry must have felt, damn electoral college!!
dangerfield
Obama got lucky in his genes - the man is gifted, healthy and good looking. And America got lucky when he decided to enter public service, instead of pursuing a literary career, or any one of a number of career paths he could have chosen and would have excelled at.
PS Defeating Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination was no piece of cake.
Amy: Hillary was my first hope, but the prez has done a very good job, dispite all of his opposition.
Hillary in '16
it is is interesting how the democrats with their identity politics had a hard time deciding between a woman, a half-black man, a senior citizen and an adulterer got into such a mess last time.
If that video isn't bad enough for Governor Romney, David Brooks the conservative columnist just did his third negative column about how Mitt Romney just doesn't get what the American compact is about. If you don't even have respected conservatives on your side it says alot about his lack of character and substance.
So Romney doesn't like most of his base???? It is a fact that red states take more federal money than they give in taxes (you know those "freeloaders" Romney rants about) and blue states pay more in taxes than they take from federal government (the responsible, accountable people).
So Romney doesn't like his base....LOL!
i hope you all have some towels nearby. the foaming at the mouth and the gnashing of teeth that must be going on as you make all of these pointless statements to one another makes the whole thing rather an incestuous democrat party.
You're doing it wrong. The Democrats are all Bible-burning homosexuals. The Republicans are the ones devoted to incest, since it's in the Bible and all.
x -- were you cheering against God while Tony Villar was conducting his sham of a parliamentary procedure at the democrat love fest?
So What does that Make Paul Ryan with his Cushy Health Care and Retirement and sucking on the Government Teats all of his Adult Life, and Mr. Romney, when the Government picked up the Tabs for Retirements and the crumbs after he raided and destroyed Companies and employees jobs AND SUCKED OUT ALL OF THE PROFITS.
How Good has Big Government been to Romney and those in his STRATOSPHERE, to allow him to OFF-SHORE HIS MONEY to keep from paying taxes to the Country he claims he loves more than Anybody else?
Romney, the Republicans, have been sending that Dog Whistle this whole election cycle to their Bigoted Red Meat Crowd. So, has Paul Ryan and all of the Republicans in Congress BECOME MINORITIES? Big Government Takes Care of them and they are NOT DOING ANY WORK except to Block Health Care and Women's Rights and STILL NO JOBS BILL!
GOP/TEA GIVE UP THEIR Government Jobs, and Health Care, Retirements. That would go a LONG WAY TO STRENGTEN THE ECONOMY, Instead of a Major Political Party ROOTING for Economic Failure to get rid of a President.
RIGHT NOW, all the Republicans are doing is trying to figure out a way to continue to DESTROY the Economy and keep Rich People from paying taxes, and give more money to Defense to keep the War Machine going. NO REGULATIONS on Banks and Corporations to further destroy the Environment and the Economy.
talking -- your points are quite humorous. thanks for sharing. i needed a good laugh.
Business wants us to have a single worldwide economy where the 99%ers get paid the same. That means we must take pay cuts while China and India etc all get pay raises. That way, businesses can be anywhere, always pay low taxes and low wages, and the CEOs will continue to get gazillion dollar bonus's for managing the world.
See Rollerball - not the remake, the original with James Caan. Corporations run everything - its the 1%ers wet dream.
where exactly do you come up with kind of nonsense?
You Jack --- , what about all the people that became poor because of Madoff !! What about all the people that were lied to about stocks and lost their --- with the banks melted down!
What about victims of crime, medical malpractice, military injuries ... the list is soo long on your stupid remarks you need a laugh track for that 49% to play the next time we cross paths!
madoff is a democrat
Are those chickens I hear coming home to roost? Buck. Buck Buck. Let's hear it for the 1% and their cheerleader Mittens. Couldn't be happening to a less nice guy.
melissa -- can you define the members of the 1%? Can you give some specific examples of people you believe are part of this 1%?
How can you so gleefully malign an entire segment of the population? Do you who beat the 1% drum not realize that you're discriminating against a portion of the population based solely on income? They're not less human. They don't deserve this. (This coming from someone who was in poverty for the vast majority of my life.)
Well, Billy . . . Mittens Romney for starters. Then there's the Koch bros. How about The Donald? Get my drift?
And NorCal . . . yes, I suppose they are "human"--but how can you align yourself with those who see 47% of Americans as less-than-deserving of their concern . . . if Romney is to be counted among the 1%? BTW that's a rhetorical question.
melissa -- so you do not consider the following to be part of the 1%?
oprah, lebron james, bill clinton, harry reid, nancy pelosi, beyonce, david letterman, jay z, warren buffett, barack obama, chuck schumer?
i get your drift. you are simply parroting something that you have heard but do not understand.
Hey NorCalModerate -- I agreed with your earlier post about 80%. Disagreement doesn't actually have to be nasty. Sadly, because it has gotten so nasty on the political scene, the most extreme and polarizing elements of each party tend to come out and people back them because of their passion against the other side. That said, I don't agree with your conclusion about Romney. I disagree with Romney's economic, social, and foreign policy, so any agreement that he reaches with a possibly Republican Congress won't work for me. I do believe that elections should be based on principles and values and I don't agree with Romney's a bit. Obama has been less than I'd hoped for, but Romney appears to be a redux of Bush and that was a foreign policy, economic, and social policy disaster. I'll stick with Obama rather than take another crack at trickle down economics... but, I won't insult anyone for disagreeing with my position.
*applause* See, people, it is possible to disagree without spewing or frothing at the mouth. Thanks for your civil disagreement, badfactsbad. I can respect that. We all have our own life experiences that lead us to our political convictions -- life experiences that are one of a kind, and deeply felt. Personally, I think there is more than one way to skin a cat (what a horrible term!) So I get that your experiences are not mine, and vice versa. Whatever happens, hopefully whoever the president turns out to be will be able to bridge the gap between the parties.
Starderup..........I guarantee you that the Russian hookers were not " old white whales" ! Hell, these Tea Baggers are even outsourcing the hookers ! Is nothing sacred ! American working girls need jobs too !
How can the Republican party expect the 99% American People, for one split second, to vote & elect a "STUPID" like exlax ETCH-A-SKETCH? His mouth is constantly getting him in trouble; so, what would his mouth do as their leader? NOTHING BUT CHAOS!! It's not too late to dump him & his "president", religious HYPOCRITE, LIAR, GUNSLINGER, MAMA'S BOY Ryan! McCain could have gotten many more votes! Even if he didn't win your corrupt Republican corporate MONARCHY wouldn't look so STUPID!!!
tr -- relax. your imagination is getting the better of you.
Nice decsription of President Obama ... a little harsh though.
3:02 est Intrade has Obama 67.8 % chance of winning election . come on Fleabaggers, put your
money where your mouth is! If you don't know about Intrade google it and learn something. I
need your money so can be a job creator.
Romney lost the impact of his weekly Monday morning lie about Obama. He did manage to see his lie about "47% of government dependent Americans" hit the news. In time of war, all Americans are dependent on the government. Senior citizens are dependent on government to give them their Social Security and Medicare entitlements, that they paid into for 50 years.
Is this the same Mitt Romney who is the genius capitalist? The man who made vulture capitalism a good thing. This must be an impostor. This Mitt Romney is an idiot.
Come on people.... at least use the terms Muslim and Islam correctly. It makes your arguments look ignorant if you don't know this common grammatical error.
www(DOT)differencebetween.net/miscellaneous/difference-between-islam-and-muslim/
The worst part is there are stupid, lazy, and poor losers that will still vote for Romney. I know a few.
