TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Rallying the college vote, first lady Michelle Obama commended the "energy and passion" of young voters during stops in Florida Monday -- and cranked the pressure up, too.
"All of the progress we've made, it is on the line," Obama said inside a packed arena on the campus of Florida State University in Tallahassee.
"As my husband has said, this election's going to be even closer than the last one," she added. "And it could all come down to what happens in a few key battleground states. Yes -- like Florida. And folks here in Florida, you all know a little something about close elections, don't you?"
It wasn't Obama's first reference to the George W. Bush era.
Earlier, she implored the crowd not to "turn around and go back" to economic policies that she said "got [the United States] into trouble in the first place."
Florida is clearly part of that mission.
The First Lady's visit may be an indication that whatever ground President Barack Obama has gained here and in other battleground states is going to be guarded closely.
An NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll last week showed the president holding a lead of five points on Republican nominee Mitt Romney among likely voters in Florida and Virginia, and a lead of seven points in Ohio.
"From now until November the 6th, we're going to need every single one of you to work like you've never worked before," Obama said. She urged students to take advantage of early voting in order to volunteer on election day.
Hours before the first lady arrived in Tallahassee, a flap blew up over a surreptitious video that captured Romney at a fundraiser this year, telling donors that supporters of Barack Obama are "dependent upon government."
Obama didn't mention the controversy here in Tallahassee, and instead painted a broad picture of values she said she and her husband share.
"You have to be driven by the struggles, hopes and dreams of all of the people you serve," she said. "As president you need a strong inner compass, a core commitment to your fellow citizen, that’s how you make the right decisions for this country. That’s what it takes to be a leader."
Late Monday, Romney said during a press conference that his remarks were not "elegantly stated" but reflect his philosophical differences with the White House.
"This is something I talk about a good deal in rallies and speeches and so forth, which is the president and I have very different approaches to the future of America," Romney said.
Obama campaign officials estimated 8,850 people showed up in Tallahassee. Earlier Monday, the first lady addressed students on the campus of the University of Florida, in Gainesville.

Yes Romney, bring your money back to America. That 47% needs your money. Odumbass can't just give it away to his voting base if you have it out of reach. How dare you be a smart man & protect your personal money. You know that these 47% would just give their extra money to Odumbass to use as he see's fit. All our other freedoms are being slowly whittled away. Maybe on the horizon, our bank accounts can be monitored & any extra money can be moved to the Obama Slush Fund to go toward getting that 47% up to maybe 75% . Is America great or what? lol I work at a college and four years ago as a service to the kids they shuttled them to the polls to vote. Of course on the way to the polls the people in charge of this shuttle told them to make sure they vote for Obama. Also they have had political candidates come speak at this college including, then senator Obama, Hillary Clinton, and recently Vice President Joe Biden. I have yet to see a Republican speak at this place that preaches diversity.

He never heard about the Mexican Invasion, the unnecessary wars, the high cost of fuel, the outrageous tax plans or JOBS. But by golly he knew about EAR MARKS. Well his earmark plan was about .0005 percent of the budget (which we still don't have in place thanks to Harry Reid) and he lost.
And this implausible ‘hero’ began his speeches with: My friends… he never knew we were not his friends but his employers. He never (like Obama if that is his name) held a job in commerce or industry, always at the public trough was he.)
This fool said "We won't campaign in Michigan because that is a democat state”. Palin said : Send me! The loser sent his cronies to her saying ‘STFU missy’. And then good old loser Sid made so many 'gimmes' for the usurper that there was no way he could ever win.

Many college kids grow up and look back and say "what the hell was I thinking back then". I hope today's kids are smarter and can see what lies ahead for them if the current trend continues. A country in decline in world leadership,decline in military,decline in economy,decline in respect, increasing poverty,increasing taxes,increasing welfare programs,increasing debt, decreasing medical services and availability. What a future with a $16,000,000,000,000, debt (and rising) to look forward to.
I'm all for taking care of people that can't work but we are footing the bill for to many people that are to lazy & to stupid to work. I don't give a $hit what color they are. I found out in 2008 that I have cancer & had extensive surgery in mid 2008. But for my recovery time, never missed any work. Last year (2010) it came back & I went thru 3 months of radiation. I worked 1/2 days . Otherwise I never missed work. Now, I can go to Walmart & see trucks a lot better than mine parked in the Handi-Capped parking . People of all colors get out with nothing that I can see wrong with them. No limp no nothing. I go inside & they are using a Lone Star card (Texas Welfare) & food stamps to buy food better than what I am buying. !/2 of then need a cashier that speak Spanish. Yes I am a bitter , sick , old white guy. My taxes go to supporting these people that are leeches of the Government. America is getting raped every day. I have no where to turn. Being white, past middle age, no Handi-Cap & heterosexual, I have no rights anymore. But THEY damned sure want my tax money to go towards supporting these scams to the system. There is no way I would vote for the King Odumbass. I am not just voting for Romney, more importantly , I am voting against ODUMBASS.

I am disabled, on Social Security, have taxable pension income and two part time job. I pay taxes. With that being said, how dare he claim the half of Americans have a victim attitude and want to be on the dole. This arrogant little rich boy is not a conservative. In addition, he has no character. He always mis speaks or will not apologize for errors he has already made. He insulted the British on their handling of Olympics , he stepped in diplomatic boongoggleon the Jerusalem as capital of Israel, the Polish unions refused to meet with him, knowing of how he has dealt with unions from a business perspective. This man is heartless as well as being out of touch. People forget that the money for corporate welfare to Wall St. was through two administrations, when Wall St. said, like a mob family, that they would either get the money or the schemers would go to Europe and undermine us from other there. The bailouts to GM have been paid back. We do not have 20s soup kitchens or horrific poverty like the Depression. Vote for Romney will be a further push towards global technological feudalism.

Jeesie Baby Daddy & Al notSharpton would have strokes & much of white America would be apologizing to the Blacks the way Odumbassapologized to his brethren Muslims.
