Subscribe to RSSWith new ad buys that came across last night from Crossroads GPS and Restore Our Future, TV and radio ad spending for the presidential election has now crossed the $600 million mark.
Grand total ad spending: $605.7 million
NBC's Domenico Montanaro reports that ad spending has now crossed the $600 million mark. More than half has been spent in just three states - Florida, Ohio, and Virginia. Wisconsin has also become a battleground.
The Romney campaign and outside groups supporting him continue to outspend the Obama campaign and its supporters, but the Obama campaign has poured in more than $8 million in just the past week.
Team Romney $318.5 million
Team Obama $287.2 million
More than half of all the money spent is in just three states – Florida, Ohio, and Virginia. And in those states, Team Obama leads.
Florida: $121 million (Team Obama $60.7 million -- Team Romney $60.3 million)
Ohio: $116.9 million (Team Obama $63.6 million – Team Romney $53.3 million)
Virginia: $90 million (Team Obama $47.9 million – Team Romney $42.4 million)
So $327 million spent in three states – that’s 54 percent of all ad money spent.
This past week has also seen double the spending in Wisconsin, Paul Ryan's home state. Wisconsin has been -- and continues to be -- in the Toss Up column in the NBC Battleground Map, but it is now just seeing real action from the campaigns, including a visit to Milwaukee by President Obama next Saturday.

Trust worthy? My problem is none of them are trust worthy. I wouldn't care so much if I knew that the money will be going to truly help people. How long, and how much money have we spent on the war on poverty? Trillions of dollars, and what do we have to show for it? Nothing.
Poverty has significantly fallen among Americans under 18 years old from 23% in 1964 down to less than 17%, although it has risen again to 20% in 2009

Rep. Ryan's people actually came out and stated that they will not allow their campaign to be influenced by "factcheckers".
Hope that provides some clarity.

You should care about being deliberately lied to.
That's because there were a few of the recent "facts" that were checked by the checkers and their conclusions were more interpretation than anything else.
Fact checkers are somewhat useful, but can also show some bias - especially of late.
Rachel Maddow, herself, predicted the death of the (fact checking) organizations(s) as a credible resource not too long ago.

I do believe that Factcheck has become more deliberate in its investigations as a result.
That being said, even Fox had to call out Rep. Ryan on some the things he said during his speech at the RNC.

The factchecker outfit Rachel Maddow looked at - and wrote off - was Politfact.
What gets me is why Ryan didn't believe someone would check. In this day and age you can't get away with anything. Everyone has a cell camera, and records are easily researched using the web.
I can't believe Ryan thinks that even his base is THAT stupid!!

Over 600 Million dollars in Ads - what a waste - really the majority of people already have made up their minds. For those that haven't it is scary to think that a commercial will end up persuading them. I could think of a hell of a lot more ways to spend 600 million dollars that would stimulate the economy then giving it to ad agencies.
I am sure that there are job creation programs, re-educations programs, veteran aid programs, small business investment programs and on and on that would benefit from 600 million dollars. Again Scary how much money will be wasted on this election that could be put to build and educate our great nation.
A double defeat for Ryan could in the end be the best outcome for the GOP. It may decide to move away from the swamp that is the far right.

Newt Gingrich has been deligated to have the gold crown richly set with precious stones at Tiffanys. (Karl Rove and

The Road to Serfdom comes from the Democrats, not the Republicans. But in this election it doesn't seem to matter. If you look at CNN's electoral map (it is probably more accurate than NBC or anything NBC has ever produced) Democrats should be happy. All Obama has to do is win the "leaning Obama states" and he has won....and he doesn't even need the traditional red states. He will win Michigan, Pennsylvania (both big union states) and New Mexico. That gives him slightly over 270 electoral votes. As far a Citizen's United is concerned, it doesn't seem to have hurt Democrats at all. This is probably the most misunderstood case out there; it actually helps both parties and citizen groups on all sides.... And yes, Democrats have SuperPacs too.
So somehow it is OUR fault your party nominated the most flawed candidate in history?
BTW - you might want to do a little bit of research on that. History says quite the opposite!

Democracy takes work and participation. When people go about their mundane lives without paying attention to what is happening in the capitol cities they soon lose control to those with the money and power to take over while they are politically napping.
Unfortunately only a fraction of Americans who are eligable actually register and vote. Most don't pay attention to what their reps are doing until just weeks before the election.
You know, Obama has some new ads up too--and they're quite effective. The one I've seen in Maine replays Romney's '...borrow from your parents' in order to afford college and then goes on to contrast this chestnut with Obama's real-world actions. He cut out the middleman in the student loan process and invested the savings into more student grants.
Translation: If you're middle class and want your kids to go to college, vote Obama. If you have a wealthy parent to borrow from, congratulations.
Finally, Republican economic stimulus for the broadcast industry.

Construction workers and home business owner and bankers and loan officer can make a budget. No precident has been set regarding Senator but there is nothing in the Constitution to prohibit it. One could, however, argue that a vice president may not be eligable to be president but it is still a gray area.

Possible but not likely. The process would require Congress to approve and they are out campaigning.

Do you think The Shambles Party is going to start asking for blank checks fromt he Billionaires Club and CEOs of Fossil Fuel companies soon? They have been in a Shambles since 2006 and had to basically ask for those blank checks in 2010 so they could get guys like Walker and those Tea baggers elected with blatant lying fall of 2010. This will be a test of the moderates and independents in America, can their thinking filter through the billions of $ the GOP Shambles Party throws at lying deceptive ads for 7 more weeks?
If they use even an average filter by the time anything worth thinking about gets to the judgement brain cells the GOP won't have a message, it will be filtered out like large chunks of BS sticking to the first filter with the simplest filtering mechanism in a poor air handling system. I don't care how much money is spent in this election. I can read. I can research opponents stance on positions I care about by their votes in congress, or even worse, their inability to discuss positions honestly.

Most of us on this board do research and are paying attention. Unfortunately unless one is a political junkie the average person doesn't pay attention to politics untl just before the election. Many start from the time of the conventions and others wait until just weeks prior. Democracy requires participation and paying attention. Use it or lose it.
I doubt these ads do much good. I have watched political ads and they pretty much tell you what you already know.
Obama is a failure with no experience who will make us worse if re-elected.
Romney is a greedy conservative who might have experience but has made mistakes and might not be a fit president.
Ads are all the same. I say do your own research; find out which things are true and which are not. Ads are certainly the most biased thing on television (and that is saying a lot). I feel sorry for the people who base their politics on ads alone.
If anyone disagrees explain why.
Some pundits like Cenk of The Young Turks/Current TV think that Romney's gaffe of the week a day or two ago will do him in, when asked what he thought middle class salary/wages ballpark is he said something like "$200K-$250K per year" .....Do you think there needs to be more proof this guy has not walked even close to Reality Street in the last 20 or 30 years if ever? He will come back and say something like "Oh I meant middle class for Beverly Hills" .... or what are some others I can guess - Manhattan, Malibu, Carmel, Marco Island, Palm Springs....
Play that one with Ryan's character / BSng lie of the year or is it the century for a person that calls themself a serious athlete - I ran a marathon in the sub-3 hour range, when it was 4 hours!! All the decline we are in now can not have been caused by just Bush. look at jobless numbers, look at debt. Bush did not do all that. What really makes me sick of you arrogant folks and I only call human beings folks so you get that much credit still (until we find out your are droids churned out of a mold), is that you guys think the majority of liberals do not work and have strong work ethics or ambition (even though vast majority of upper educated are liberals)- most have as much or more than repubs, you guys just worship corporate welfare and its trickle down to tools that many of you are where we majority liberals just think it is best to use welfare on those in need and not your corporation masters, reach out a hand and help people get on track from the start if from bad or no homes, or restart at least a couple times in life because all can fail at least once and/or have bad luck.
If you halfway agree with that last statement, then you have enough brains to be one of the few repubs that could strike a deal and compromise between dems and repubs on entitlements (we the majority hardworking libs want abusers of welfare and disability stopped and forced to change or if they won't I accept they should become homeless beggars) combined with tax changes to get the rich paying more or at least more responsible for creating jobs here when we give them the largest tax cuts a la Bush policy rather than over in their tax havens and sweatshop countries like China, etc. That is the compromise and commitment we need, dems give in on entitlement a little and put more tougher incentives and enforcement on those who abuse them (sorry we won't say the country is too brok now and must throw them out in the street immediately) and you guys on either taxing the rich more to make up for the deficit quicker or at least work with us on finding a way to make them patriotic and keep their employment they create in this country not their other favorit countries.
I totally agree we need a compromise. I know not every Democrat is a homeless beggar and I know lots of people look for jobs. The Republicans are so Right-wing now that they won't compromise with Democrats, and the Democrats are so Left-wing they won't compromise with Republicans. I don't think that the problem were in is just Democrats fault by any means. I am all for jobs being kept in USA, as long as we don't have to feed every mouth that is too lazy to get a job. Anyway, I am not quite as conservative as every Republican but you cannot see things only one way and survive in USA.

It is apparent and relatively easy to conclude from what we have seen since 9/11 and Bush immediately saying good things about muslims after that probably to keep from having riots here in the USA against muslims, that it appears the curent republicans do not feel comfortable tolerating or accepting muslims when we don't have a Repub president in office.... wouldn't it be interesting to hear a discussion from experts on why that appears to be the case - Bush family has more Arab friends (mainly from their Saudi oil connections) than any repub family I imagine but just because of the family oil connections his Dad made years ago my guess (Britain and USA developed the oil fields pretty much completely for the Arab world so some folks made connections very early, think it was in the 30's- early 50's).
Maybe that is the Bush/Cheney doctrine card the GOP may try to play forever - we have the oil CEOs on our side and they are the only ones with budddy GOP politicians that can contain a peaceful Arab world.... that may be their ace in the whole they think....but that leads a conspiracy theorist to the next guess - GOP has or tries to have some control (either direct or indirect however you want to define that) over muslim extremes unrest against us. Chew on that one for a while enquiring people, if you aren't ready for the truth if it appears don't try it may cause brain damage.

If I am reading this article correctly, it states that Obama is ahead in spending in those three swing states. Not ahead in the polls, but ahead in spending on ads.
I think Obama needs to run on his sterling economic record. Divulge his upcoming four year plan to bring unemployment down to say....5%. Outline his laser focus on jobs, and predict which of the following summers will be "The Summer Of Recovery". LOL
