President Barack Obama will stump next weekend in Wisconsin, his campaign announced Friday, marking his first trip to the state since February.
Lee Miringoff, the Director of the Marist Poll at the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, joins The Daily Rundown's Chuck Todd to break down the latest NBC, Wall Street Journal and Marist poll numbers.
The president will deliver remarks at a grassroots event on Sept. 22 in Milwaukee, battleground territory in Wisconsin, a state considered an Electoral College "toss-up" on NBC's battleground map. It's his first trip to the state since Feb. 15; Obama even avoided going to the state during a high-stakes effort to recall Republican Gov. Scott Walker.

No Republican has won the Badger State, though, since Ronald Reagan in 1984. That hasn't stopped Mitt Romney from trying to put the state in play, more prominently by adding Paul Ryan, a Wisconsin congressman, to his ticket. The Romney campaign also purchased advertising airtime in the state, forcing the Obama campaign to respond in kind.
The latest New York Times/CBS News/Quinnipiac University poll found Obama leading Romney, 49 percent to 47 percent, among likely voters.
Obama's trip -- combined with recent visits by Vice President Joe Biden -- would seem to suggest that the president's campaign doesn't fully consider Wisconsin safely in its column on the path toward collecting the 270 electoral votes needed to secure the presidency.
But unlike Romney, Obama has more paths to 270 available to him even if he were to lose Wisconsin.

After initially going after Romney for his disgraceful behavior, GOP figured they'd give his dangerous whoppers a whirl. Patriotism? Honor? Honesty?
Without a shadow of any doubt, Romney is NO leading man in foreign affairs. Everything he is doing right now is misleading, and in a dangerous direction. The GOP party sank to the bottom of the Marianas.
Obama has time to campaign and go on Letterman's show, but he can't meet with PM Bibi, his jobs council or attend Intelligence briefings....Well at least we know where his priorities are.

Romney is so ethically challened that if he were in a tough re-election fight, he would start a war with one of these countries just to get a few points in the polls.

There are a lot of counties to the west of where I sit that were "blue" in 2008, but are in play now, mostly because Scott Walker convinced them that Tom Barrett was going to take away their gun rights, and also precisely BECAUSE you were not visible here during the Walker uproar.

The President reads his briefings every day. Attending briefings did not appear to improve George W. Bush's understanding of their contents.
As for the so-called briefing warnings, there were in fact warnings from Israel that the US and Israeli embassies in Cairo might be attacked. They said nothing about Libya and were not related to September 11. In fact, they were related more to Hezbollah, and Israelis were particularly warned to avoid travel on the weekend BEFORE September 11. The warnings were only half right, as the Israeli embassy was not attacked.
Perhaps the video changed the original plan. Ever think of that, oh wise Harley Chic?

At the Press WH meeting today, it was acknowledged that there have been a lot of misreports and speculation:
But there was no intelligence that could have been acted on to prevent the attack on the facility in Benghazi.
The latest is there is no evidence of pre-planned attack.
Leaders in the Middle East agreed with President Obama, that they should speak out against the violence going on. But in their world the video was highly offensive, and the people are expressing their outrage.
Romney was factually all WRONG - and his timing self-serving, and out of order - at a time when Americans need to stand together.
Thanks for the update, and I can readily believe all of that, Backhouse. As I understand it, the warnings that were out there had nothing to do with Al Qaeda OR Libya. Who knows? The attacks may even have been totally unrelated to those warnings. The video changed the game completely.
The right talks about how the attacks were pre-planned, but I see you are saying no. Even if they were, however, that video has been out there since July, which would certainly make it possible that the video was the inspiration. Trying to deny that defies everything we're hearing today about what's happening all over the Middle East.
I am a little concerned about the fact that the consulate had been attacked previously, but even if you tried to chase down all the possibilities for an attack on September 11, you still might have missed that one. Without any specific warnings, it would be difficult to determine where you would put your resources. Still, it seems that Chris Stevens was a trifle underprotected for the inherent level of danger that existed there. But that may have been his own choice, given what I've learned about him. His goal was to unify, not polarize. He didn't want to hide behind the walls.
We'll see how it all shakes out. But in the end, Romney was wrong, both in what he said and how he said it. If nothing else, it was wrong not to temper his comments with something about how Americans should not condone hate speech, rather than just an empty defense of the First Amendment. Trouble is, he cultivates hate speech among his followers every day by not condemning it. Why should this have been any different?
The report today said that Ambassador Stevens was protected by security, of course. But the last attack on a U.S. diplomat was in 1979.
And something like this cannot be predicted. Folks there don't understand about American Free Speech - as relates to the (*******) movie.
Folks in the middle east don't think about "individual" "freedom" the way Americans do.
For them, it was an big attack on their sacred beliefs.

I know there were two navy seals (contractors) with him. Both died. Also some bigwig security guy. I don't think it makes much difference. He could easily have been caught outside the embassy on any day. He was that kind of diplomat. If they wanted to kill Chris Stevens, they could have done it.

The important thing is if the moderators will hold the candidates to the questions. I can see Romney pulling a Sarah Palin, ala "That's not the question I'm going to answer."
I think the moderators should be allowed to have those hand-held air-horns, and whenever someone strays from the question they should get that noise blasted in their face!

FR--wouldn't another way to look at the trip to Wisconsin be that the President keeps the state in play and forces Romney and Ryan to answer with trips to the state and expenditures? Could mean the campaign is confident wanting to put the pressure on Romney & Ryan in many states.

Nobama wouldn't go near Wisconsin during the recall election. Now who remembers this about the recall: the exit polling predicted the race was too close to call! Actual result: Walker won 53-47.
The lame-stream media is putting out poll after poll showing Zero ahead. Only problem is that Dims are over-sampled in every one of these polls because they are basing D/R/I weighting based on 2008 turnout!
If you re-weight the polls according to 2010 turnout, ZERO LOSES.
According to Rasmussen, the intensity level with republicans is even higher than 2010.
So, what would be your guess as to how that Wisconsin exit poll was weighted? They really are stupid, the lame-stream media. Weighting an exit poll like that could be exposed for the snake oil that it was in a matter of hours.

Mormonism includes many other unusual teachings which you will probably not be told about until you have been in the church for a long time. These teachings are not revealed to investigators or new converts because those people are not yet considered ready to have more than "milk" as doctrine.
