Polls: Obama holds the edge in Florida, Ohio and Virginia

As chaos in the Middle East continues, President Obama and GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney are each trying to project strength on national security. NBCs Peter Alexander reports.

After two political conventions and heading into the post-Labor Day sprint, President Barack Obama leads Republican nominee Mitt Romney in the key battlegrounds of Florida, Ohio and Virginia, according to new NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist polls of each of these three states.

Click for poll results: Virginia | Ohio | Florida (pdfs)

In both Florida and Virginia, Obama is ahead of Romney by five points among likely voters (including those leaning toward a particular candidate), 49 percent to 44 percent.

In Ohio, the president’s lead is seven points, 50 percent to 43 percent.

Among a larger pool of registered voters, Obama’s advantage over Romney slightly increases to 7 points in Virginia, 8 in Florida and 9 in Ohio.

“You’d rather be in Obama’s shoes than Romney’s in these three critical states,” Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion, says of the poll results.

First Thoughts: A tricky situation

But he adds that Obama’s leads are not “insurmountable,” especially as the two candidates prepare for their first presidential debate on Oct. 3 in Colorado.

Charles Dharapak / AP

Mitt Romney embraces women wearing traditional Vietnamese "ao dai" dresses as he campaigns at Van Dyck Park in Fairfax, Va., Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012.

These states – all of which Obama carried in 2008 but which George W. Bush won in 2004 – represent three of the most crucial battlegrounds in the 2012 presidential election. And according to NBC’s electoral map, Romney likely needs to capture at least two of these states, if not all three, to secure the 270 electoral votes necessary to win the presidency.

By comparison, Obama can reach 270 by winning just one or two of these battlegrounds  – on top of the other states already considered to be in his column.

(Obama also has an additional path to victory without any of these three states if he wins the toss-up contests of Colorado, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, and Wisconsin.)

What’s particularly striking about these polls, Miringoff observes, is how most voters in these battleground states have already made up their minds, with just 5 to 6 percent saying they’re undecided, and with more than 80 percent signaling that they strongly support their candidate.

“Those who are thinking of voting have pretty much picked sides,” he says.

The Romney campaign is on defense, facing criticism from within the Republican Party, and from President Barack Obama that the GOP presidential nominee politicized a foreign policy crisis. Romney campaign adviser Vin Weber discuses.

Economy vs. foreign policy
In Florida and Virginia, Obama and Romney are essentially tied among likely voters on the question of which candidate would do a better job handling the economy, although Obama has a four-point advantage on this question in Ohio.

But when it comes to handling foreign policy, the incumbent Democratic president enjoys a double-digit lead over his Republican challenger.

Also in the polls, Obama’s job-approval ratings – 50 percent in Ohio and 49 percent in Florida and Virginia – exactly match his ballot position against Romney in these states.

And in each of these three battlegrounds, a majority of likely voters say the country is on the wrong track, while more than 40 percent believe that it’s headed in the right direction.

Looking at the Senate races
The polls also measure the key U.S. Senate contests in these three states, all of which could determine the balance of power in that chamber.

First Read: Michelle Obama echoes convention testimony in solo campaign stop

In Florida, incumbent Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson leads Republican challenger Connie Mack among likely voters by double digits, 51 percent to 37 percent.

In Ohio, incumbent Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown is ahead of GOP challenger Josh Mandel by seven points, 49 percent to 42 percent.

And in Virginia, Democrat Tim Kaine and Republican George Allen are tied at 46 percent each.

The NBC/WSJ/Marist polls of Florida, Ohio and Virginia were conducted from Sept. 9-11 of nearly 1,000 likely voters in each state (about 30 percent by cell phone), and they have a margin of error of plus-minus 3.1 percentage points.

The former Republican Florida governor explains his support for President Barack Obama but says he's not ready to declare himself a Democrat just yet.

A likely voter is determined based on interest in the upcoming election, the chance of voting, and prior participation in past elections.

More than 1,300 registered voters were surveyed in each of the three states, and the margin of error for those voters is plus-minus 2.7 percentage points.

After turning around an economy that was in freefall by the end of 2008, in the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, and after receiving zero support from an obstructionist GOP party since January 2009:

As promised, President Obama is bringing our troops home. He ended the war in Iraq. He proposes the money saved by ending the wars go towards nation building here at home - and paying down the deficit.

4.5 million jobs were created over the last 30 months of continous growth. (Bear in mind that President Bush created about 1.1 million jobs over a period of 37 months after the end of a mild recession.)

Included in the the President Obama's plans to move the USA forward:

Double US exports, create 1 million new manufacturing jobs, cut net oil imports in half, support 600,000 natural gas jobs, recruit 100K math and science teachers.

Nobody in their right mind wants another "Cowboy"that is not a "Cowboy" Asking Clint Eastwood to " talk" at the GOP Convention does not make Romney a "Cowboy" either, and does not give him any more "appeal"with intelligent people.

8 years of asinine "cowboy" rhetoric took us to the edge. Who wants ANOTHER WAR AND CALLING EVERY MUSLIM 'THE AXIS OF EVIL"???

I'll try and answer that one for you if you don't mind. The President in his second term isn't going to give a rat's butt who he pisses off in Congress. He won't have to be looking at a re-election and can go full force in doing the job that the people sent him there to do. Just wait and watch .... it's going to get ugly but it's going to get better!!

When you have no policy, no principle, no ideas, and no solutions, you have no chance Mitt. We tried bluster, rhetoric, and extremist neo-con government with W and that was an absolute disaster.

To quote the President the Republicans put in witness protection, "There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again."

Rev Al just showed a clip of President Clinton from the Convention where he said -

We are in this together

And the polls are showing that. As is the social media. Go take a trip around the internets - to Huffington Post, to DailyKos, to Think Progress, to the Obama Diary, to MediaMatters, here on First Read and on and on.

Time after time after time you see people writing about "we as a country" and not "me me me". Time after time you see people talking about making a good living yet having NO PROBLEM paying taxes that will help with schools and infrastracture and all the tools necessary to make America a great country.

America is not about me, and it is not about lies and fear mongering.

America is about the people. And we the people are about integrity - and because of that, we have the president's back - who as a leader is right when he tells us that WE are the change. Not him. Us! We the people.

A lawyer in my office told me today that he is going to spend several of his weekends in Florida volunteering to help get people registered to vote. He is a man who has always spoken highly of Lawrence O'Donnell's father who was a civil rights attorney, so he takes civil rights serious. He was raised in Roxbury during some turbulent times and he saw a lot. And he remembers.

He is livid over the voter suppression laws being put into effect. And as an attorney and an American, he is livid.

And as much as he may want the president re-elected, I get the impression that he is more concerned about our country going backwards, and as long as he is alive, he will do all he can to maintain our democracy.

This lawyer is a workaholic and I'm stunned that he is willing give up his weekends of working to volunteer IN FLORIDA.

Here's hoping we all do what we can before election day, no matter how small.

Remember, WE are the change.

First order of business.

Continuing to take back our country from the haters, from the liars and from the ignorant.

We have seen enough.

There is no way the people of Florida, Ohio and Virginia are stupid enough to vote for Obama.

A terrorist attack happened on 9/11/12 and four Americans were killed. ABC News just reported the security was horrible. The White House had no clue an attack was in the works. The four Americans were caught completely off guard and suffered for five hours. More details will be coming out and it won't be good for Obama.

The poll averages on RCP have definitely moved in Obama's direction since the DNC. Ohio and Florida in particular seem to be moving the Presidents' way.

And there have been no polls since Mitt's Libya meltdown yesterday. He'd better come up with some specific plans and at least his 2011 tax return pretty soon...

Carter was never this far ahead. But -- Carter ran against real candidate with real ideas, a candidate who had a backbone, a candidate with a core, a candidate who knew what he believed in. Romney is NONE if that. Romney has no ides, no core, no convictions, no backbone. Romney will take any position on any issue depending on who he is talking to at the time. Just last Sunday he has 3 positions on Obama-care. He went from wanting to repeal ALL of it, to wanting to keep SOME of it then back to repealing ALL of it. He wants to outlaw abortion in ALL cases except when he wants to allow it in SOME cases. He backtracks, he spins, he lies, he lies about lying, he flips, he flops. My thoughts on your question, If Obama wins reelection, and if republicans lose some seats, then I don't believe the republicans will be obstructing nearly as much as the last 2 years. I think they will have gotten the message that congress needs to work together and the word compromise will start to have new meaning. If Romney wins, then I think you will have obstruction from the democrats, thereby shutting the congress down again. I believe the reelection of Obama will give the tea party some thoughts that the obstruction was not a great idea and that the American people are not behind them, and that they will need to work together as a party, not be a split party. Do you really have to ask that question?? Republicans won't be able to obstruct like they did before because not only are you voting for a President, but at the same time you are voting for the house and Senate. Democrats will have the majority vote again and will finally not have to listen to Republicans. NDD - If Obama wins, which I hope he doesn't, he will have to move to the center or even center right. The Republicans will retain the House and is in a good position to take control of the Senate. I have pointed this out over several months, look at the first two years of Clinton's presidency when he had Democratic control of the House and Senate. The last six years Clinton had to deal with a Republican controlled Congress and Clinton moved to the center and even center right on issues such as welfare. Clinton had been a governor, with weak powers, and he was a much more astute politician than Obama is. Obama is going to have to quit playing the blame game and swallow some of his ego and pride if he expects to get cooperation.

BTW, I noticed that the poll cited was conducted between Sept 9 - 11, that is prior to all hell breaking out in the Middle East. We will see if Obama's lack of leadership has any bearing on the next poll. I believe Obama has shown a lack of leadership when he refuses to meet with PM Netanyahu, and while our Embassies are being threatened he is still out campaigning.

Carter was up four at this time- seven or eight in mid-October.

Reagan won in a landslide. . .

And Jimmy Carter didn't leave to go to a fundraiser when the hostage rescue went south. Nor did Carter complicate an already disastrous situation by declaring an ally- a LEGAL term that carries with it tangible benefits-no longer an ally.

I had hoped never to live to see a worse president than Carter. Obama moves him from the top of the list.

dont get in, they dont get to control women's bodies. Romney doesnt get to destroy Obamacare on his first day in office. We will have a steady head in the White House to lead us through these dangerous and trying times. We will continue down the path of economic recovery. We will all be in this together, instead of everyone for themselves- to coin a phrase. The question really should be: What disasters will befall us if Romney gets in.

I am not so interested in social issues, its more about the economy. Today the Fed approved QE3, 40 billion a month with no end date (scary). We have tax increases and cuts come Jan 1, 2013. We have a congress that had dug in and a President that for some reason either gave up or is waiting until after the election.

My question is if Obama get re-elected and the Republicans keeps control of the House, and the Democrats keeps, how will things change?

I find it amusing when polls are given to determine the lesser of evils, and yet we are all still surprised 3 1/2 years after inauguration that whoever was picked was still wrong for the majority of the country.

Mr Bush was not picked; the majority of the country voted for Al Gore, and Mr Bush was able to get into striking distance and then got the Supreme Court on your side. The rest of your point about Mr Bush is valid, though.

Since when does Mitt Romney even come close to being a "Ronald Reagan" Republican? As it has been said before, as a one term Governor, his biggest accomplishment was RomneyCare, which he side steps now. He has not changed since his aspirations of becoming a Governor, he was more interested in having the job than doing the job and Massachusetts suffered for it. He can't come close to being compared to Ronald Reagan and it sickens me to have people make the comparison. Even Ron Reagan Jr. said it best....his father would be appalled at what the Republican party has become and Mitt Romney can't seem to keep his feet out of his mouth at every turn of events regarding foreign policy and continuously contradicts himself on economic policy and last Sunday admitted to David Gregory that after months of saying he'd repeal "Obamacare" the ACA on day one of his presidency, he went on for 4 minutes about everything in the Affordable Care Act that is good and he would keep. He's a joke, and a Ronald Reagan Republican he certainly is not. If Mitt Romney is the best the Republican party has to offer Real Republicans anymore....I say we all just become Independents because he does not represent me, my ideals, or the main stream party, as a matter-of-fact, the main stream Republican party has been left out in the cold regarding a candidate to represent us....I guess it's another vote for Obama this year until the Republican party get's it's shxt together and looses the Teaparty morons and stops catering to the far left ideals and rhetoric of the former drug addict felon Rush Limbaugh and starts representing the main stream party again.

And by the way Mr. Romney...if you want to be commander in chief so bad, you should have had the decency to even mention the word Afghanistan in your speech at your convention. If your love of country is so profound that you want to be President of the United States, you should have acknowledged the war our country is in. I guess that slipped your mind. I hope you get your information and thoughts about what you really stand for together before your debate with Obama, because if not, you're going to resemble Nixon AGAIN, just like you did yesterday when caught in a web of statements which were inappropriate and incorrect. Your eyes were red and you looked like a deer in the headlights. And unfortunately I think Joe Biden is going to massacre Paul Ryan.

You're exactly correct, and if the American People have any intellect or ability to recognize lies and smoking mirrors when they see them, Obama will be re-elected and the House of Rep will gain the seats needed to have a majority of Democrats and Independents and a Senate that is Democratic controlled as well without a governing body who recklessly signs symbolic agreements from Grover Norquist - a lobbyist, conservative activist who is lucky he was not prosecuted along with Jack Abramoff for the Lobbying scandal that sent Abramoff to jail. Once all the TeaParty controlled Norquist controlled Republicans no longer control the House, the jobs bill can pass and many others to help this country in it's recovery. Then the Party can make the adjustments they need to become more mainstream again to represent the people and not their own agenda for failure of a President over a prospering nation.

As expected, NBC sampled 31% more Democrats than Republicans to come up with a skewed poll.

Since recent surveys show the Parties about equally split among voters, and since exit polls show voters vote 'Party-Line' about 90% of the time, this created an artificial pro-Obama bias of about 6% (in other words, Obama's real support among Registered Voters is about 6% lower than this poll indicates). This doesn't even consider the historical further discount for Likely Voters vs Registered Voters of about 4% against Obama because Republicans are more likely to vote.

This poll assumes that Obama enjoys the same level of Party support that he had in the 2008 election, despite the evidence to the contrary - including the Republican blowout in the 2010 Mid-Term elections. It shows Republican affiliation at only about 24%, which is way below the 32% level they had in the 2008 elections.

NBC has lost all credibility regarding being unbiased.

Jimmy Carter was way ahead of Reagan at this point also. Remember how that worked out?

Reagan won because he won the debates. Because Americans liked him more as a person and he was able to capitalize on that to stomp all over Carter in the debates. Romney is neither more likable a candidate nor more skilled a debater than Obama. Romney's only hope to win this election would have been to secure a nice lead through the middle stages of the campaign and hope Obama wouldn't be able to fully close the gap after the debates. Reagan's comeback was an anomally, as most of the time whoever is on the lead immediately before the conferences ends up winning the election, so I would stop trying to convince myself that Romney can pull a Reagan, if I were you.

Jo Ann-666954 - The only reliable poll is Rasmussen. They are correct more than any other poll.

Really? Because according to Nate Silver at FiveThirtyEight.com, Rasmussen consistently leans Republican.

Calculating 'House Effects' of Polling Firms

Rasmussen Reports, which has had Republican-leaning results in the past, does so again this year. However, the tendency is not very strong – a Republican lean of about 1.3 points.

If you are used to looking at Rasmussen Reports polls, your impression may be that their partisan lean is stronger than that. This is not wrong, actually. However, some of the difference results from the fact that Rasmussen is polling likely voters, while many other polling firms are polling registered voters.

AndresTM - Reagan won because he won the debates. Because Americans liked him more as a person and he was able to capitalize on that to stomp all over Carter in the debates.

Well, that and because they stole Carter's debate prep book and used it to cheat Reagan up before the debate. Don't you remember?

George Will's approach has been questioned in a few exceptional cases. During the 1980 campaign, he drew fire when it was learned he'd secretly coached Republican candidate Ronald Reagan for a debate with President Jimmy Carter using a debate briefing book stolen from the Carter campaign. Immediately following the debate, Will appeared on Nightline (10/28/80) to praise Reagan's "thoroughbred performance," never disclosing his role in rehearsing that performance (New York Times, 7/9/83).

There's no way in hell Reagan could ever have pulled off that performance without knowing what Carter would say in advance. But Carter made a mistake in scheduling only one debate, held a week before the election.

And the rest is history.

HaHa.... the ignorant sheep eat this stuff up don't they? You would think they would have learned something about being lied to by NBC after the massive Democrat loss in the 2010 midterms.

When has an NBC "poll" ever resulted in a finding that NBC didn't want it to result in?

Here is why: Look at page 8 of each of the "polls".

Viginia:
REGISTERED VOTERS
Strong Democrat 22
Not strong Democrat 8
Democrat leaning Independent 15
Just Independent 14
Republican leaning Independent 15
Not strong Republican 7
Strong Republican 17
Other 1
Total 100

Ohio:
REGISTERED VOTERS
Strong Democrat 27
Not strong Democrat 10
Democrat leaning Independent 12
Just Independent 11
Republican leaning Independent 11
Not strong Republican 8
Strong Republican 19
Other 1

Florida:

Strong Democrat 25
Not strong Democrat 11
Democrat leaning Independent 11
Just Independent 10
Republican leaning Independent 10
Not strong Republican 10
Strong Republican 22
Other 1
Total 100

Notice how every single group of Democrats from every state has a larger representation than it's Republican counterpart? (except for "leaning Independent " in VA which is a tie)

Imagine the "luck" it must take to "randomly" sample people and ALWAYS end up with a Democrat skewed group.

NBC has no shame.

Washington Post:

Reagan's "Comeback"

Jon Cohen, October 13, 2008

When John McCain's bid for the GOP nomination nearly flatlined last summer, his campaign trumpeted Ronald Reagan's comeback win in the 1980 primaries as a model . Now, down in the polls with just three weeks to go, some are again suggesting a "Reagan-esque" path for their candidate.

It is an intriguing notion: A story today suggests Reagan trailed then-President Jimmy Carter by eight percentage points in late October, and that, when paired with Reagan's 10 point win on Election Day, would have made for a remarkable turnabout.

But a review of the late 1980 polls shows that while Reagan soared over the final week (following the campaign's one and only debate on Oct. 29), the contest up until that point was tightly competitive, not trending toward the incumbent Democratic president. At the time, the Associated Press reported "new polls say the race between the two men remains too close to call."

A post-election summary of polls by then-CBS News pollster Warren Mitofsky shows that at no point over the final two weeks did Carter have a lead bigger than three percentage points. There is a published Gallup poll not included in that report showing Carter up six among likely voters in a poll conducted Oct. 24 to 27. Whether six or the eight points cited today, Carter's advantage in Gallup polling was offset by similarly large Reagan leads in NBC-Associated Press or DMI (Reagan's pollsters) polls.

The bottom line is that there was no evident momentum for either candidate as the 1980 presidential election neared its completion. That is until Reagan's breakthrough debate performance.

Of course, at that time Carter was the president with sub-30 percent approval ratings, and Reagan the relative outsider seeking to prove himself to be a "safe" choice.

Well, if you want an overview of all the polls, with some modeling built in to account for all their biases and oversampling and undersampling and landlines vs. cell phones:

    Go look at FiveThirtyEight.com.

Nate Silver predicted every state except North Carolina in the last Presidential election.

    Current forecast?

315.4 electoral votes for Obama (up 4.2 since Sept. 5)

222.6 electoral votes for Romney (down 4.2 since Sept. 5)

Obama's chance of winning: 80.8% (up 4.5% since Sept. 5)
Romney's chance of winning: 19.2% (down 4.5% since Sept. 5)

I'll take Nate Silver over any of Rupert Murdoch's empire any day.

Oh, and those "extra" Democrats? That's called "sample size" - because there are more declared Democrats in those areas than Republicans. Polling equal numbers of each would give you a major skew toward the minority Republican segment of voters.

Understand? No? Sorry, I can't teach a statistics course on the 'vine. Try reading up on it.

    1. Clint Eastwood's impromptu line: if they're not doing the job, we have to let him go.

Eastwood meant Romney and Ryan of course.

Don't you get it yet? Eastwood was planted to turn attention away from Romney's weak performance at the RNC. Who talks about Romney's speech? The GOP has already begun the face-saving process.

You need proof? Just look at the movies Eastwood's made:

THE GOOD (Obama) THE BAD (Gingrich) AND THE UGLY (toss-up between Christie and Ryan)

    A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS (Adelson)

FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE (Rove)

MILLION DOLLAR BABY; ANY WHICH WAY YOU CAN (Romney)

And who can forget these great films: Space Cowboys, True Crime, Absolute Power, The Rookie, Two Mules for Sarah Palin...

It's so obvious! Eastwood has known all along that Romney would be the GOP nominee in 2012, and he has always known that Mitt was going to lose to Obama.

I hope your on the phone to your GNoP Congressman daily with that message.

    You are, right?

And as far as I can tell the GOP is currently controlling both Congress and the Supreme Court (see Citizens United). So you're going to vote for Obama and a 60-vote Democratic majority in the Senate, just to keep things fair?

Pat Boston MA. - Well, the GOP House does have one "accomplishment".

Americans should know that one of the few bills the GOP has passed in the House of Representatives eliminates the caps on skilled foreign workers coming into this country.

It is now in the Senate. We need to speak up NOW and put a stop to this garbage! These are American jobs!

The United States House of Representatives passed a bill — House Resolution 3012 — which favors highly skilled workers by removing country-specific caps on immigrant engineers, computer scientists and other professionals.

House representatives voted 389 to 15 in favor of HR 3012 or the "Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act." The bill is also expected to pass in the Senate.

By eliminating the cap from each country on high-skilled working visa, talented immigrants from India, Philippines, China and other emerging economies can work in the US, the report said.

So much for the GOP's blathering about "illegals" taking American jobs. They just want to make them "legals" when it's cheaper for their corporate masters!

If Sec. Clinton would be one to reach across the aisle for a running mate in '16, I'd rather see Colin Powell than Rice. He's much more moderate, more pragmatic, and more respected - nationally and throughout the world. That would really steal thunder from any Republican ticket. Think either of them would go for that?

His policies overseas have included invading other Nations with NO Congressional approval. The very FIRST President to preside over AAA- credit rating PLUS informing our Nation that for the first time in history, we have a Nation 'out there' that is "Neither friend nor foe"? Economy getting better, yet more of our children's $$ being printed to purchase mortgage loan debt today??? Because the economy isn't getting any better??? LOL

Remember we are not electing a king. Let's get Obama some help in congress when we have the chance. Don't be sidetracked by sideline issues when electing congresspeople. Remember, if they're Republican, they will keep on doing what they've been doing. Grabbing power is more important to them than the good of the country. And let's quit with these articles about the "horse race" part of the election, and talk more of the issues and approaches to them that are worth listening to.

    pjam,

You do realize there are more registered Democrats than Republicans. Nationally as well as most states. So those figures would not surprise me in the least.

As for Independents, I really don't doubt that many have made up their mind which Party they will be voting for. Unfortunately ,for your party, it looks like more are leaning towards President Obama than Romney.

I really don't see how this is skewed but hey, if it makes your day to think it is so, great for you. I don't think that is very factual on your part though or realistic. Personally, I don't hold much by polls as to me it is just a snapshot at that particular time.

Obama said today that Egypt is not our ally. We give them $2 billion per year in aid and they are not our ally? What the hell? The ineptitude of this President never ceases to amaze me, yet his "rock star" persona makes it possible to say incredibly stupid things like this. This is just going to tear Egypt further away from us.

ALL the fine people of Florida, Ohio, and Virginia have got to be saying to themselves:

Fool me once, shame on you (Obama).

Fool me twice, shame on me.

Then, go do what is right and vote for Mitt Romney, who has a record of success in business, government, and in saving the Olympics from disaster. Let him have the chance to save our country from the certain destruction Obama is taking it. $6 trillion in new debt with no results isn't cutting it. "When someone does not do the job, you gotta let him go" Clint Eastwood hit the nail directly on the head.

pjam09 "HaHa.... the ignorant sheep eat this stuff up don't they? You would think they would have learned something about being lied to by NBC after the massive Democrat loss in the 2010 midterms....Imagine the "luck" it must take to "randomly" sample people and ALWAYS end up with a Democrat skewed group...NBC has no shame."

Actually, it's not 'luck', as you know - NBC deliberately 'adjusted' the sample to get the desired result - as is obvious. They deliberately eliminated enough Republicans from the sample to get to the average of 24% for Republicans because they knew that was necessary to show Obama in the lead.

It's interesting that those who self-identified as Republicans were 32% in 2008 when the Republicans had a record low number in their Party, but NBC has artificially 'adjusted' their figures to only 24% now - totally ignoring the obvious change in party affiliation that was evident in the Republican blowout of Democrats in the 2010 Mid-Term elections.

Rasmussen's most recent survey of Party Affiliation actually shows 37.6% for Republicans vs 33.3% Democrats. Since exit polls in 2004 and 2008 showed that about 90% vote 'party line' for President, NBC's artificially adjusted poll could actually be overstating Obama's real support by as much as 9%.

We should remember that NBC is controlled by Obama's buddy at General Electric - Jeff Immelt, so I'm sure that NBC has their 'marching orders' to make Obama look as good as possible, and make Romney look as bad as possible.

To the TROLLS and rightwing lemming base:

    LIAR - a person who doesn't tell you the truth. = ROMNEY/RYAN

HYPOCRITE - A person who engages in the same behaviors he condemns others for. A person who professes certain ideals, but fails to live up to them. = ROMNEY/RYAN

SWINDLER - a dishonest person who uses clever means to cheat others out of something of value. = ROMNEY/RYAN

ELITIST - A person who believes that they are superior to others (and thus deserve favored
status) because of their intellect, social status, wealth, or other factors. = ROMNEY/RYAN.

    CALLOUS - insensitive; indifferent; unsympathetic = ROMNEY/RYAN

So why vote for a pair of liars, hypocrites, elitist, callous swindlers?! The fact that they will not show their tax returns to the people they are panhandling for votes AND does NOT state their ACTUAL specific plans of how they will fix this economy or the 12 million jobs they promise – is why they fit exactly into these adjectives. Once they get your votes, all you will get back is a smirk. You’ve already been HAD.

I love how the right wing nuts say the polls are worthless and don't mean nothing when they're behind but hold it up in front of everyone's face and preach how important they are when they're ahead. Certainly the polls are perfect but it's what politicians base their strategy for the days ahead.

What is giving Obama a push is Bill Clinton telling it like it is. With all the negative ads by the Republican money people were having their doubts but Clinton put them back on course. Obama will kill Romney in the debates but Republicans will somehow try to claim victory.

    @ ROY WILSON

Apparently you think Romney should have did an Obama and appologized to the poor traumatized terrorists who killed our people.

Obama didn't apologize to anyone, but Romney complained about it anyway. But he lied. It was pure political posturing and utterly inappropriate.

Here's a summary from CBS news:

WASHINGTON — The gunfire at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, had barely ceased when Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney seriously mischaracterized what had happened in a statement accusing President Barack Obama of "disgraceful" handling of violence there and at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo.

"The Obama administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks," Romney said in a statement first emailed to reporters at 10:09 p.m. Eastern time, under the condition it not be published until midnight.

In fact, neither a statement by the U.S. Embassy in Cairo earlier in the day nor a later statement from Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton offered sympathy for attackers. The statement from the Cairo Embassy had condemned anti-Muslim religious incitement before the embassy walls were breached. In her statement, issued minutes before Romney's, Clinton had offered the administration's first response to the violence in Libya, explicitly condemning the attack there and confirming the death of a State Department official.

"I condemn in the strongest terms the attack on our mission in Benghazi today," Clinton said in a written statement received by The Associated Press at 10:08 p.m. "As we work to secure our personnel and facilities, we have confirmed that one of our State Department officers was killed. We are heartbroken by this terrible loss."

Then, at 10:24 p.m., a Romney spokeswoman lifted the release restriction on the Republican's statement, and it was widely published.

At the time, the Romney campaign did not know that the U.S. ambassador, Christopher Stevens, had been killed, nor did the Obama administration. Libyans told American officials around midnight that the ambassador had died, but Americans were unable to confirm his identity until hours later.

"I strongly condemn the outrageous attack on our diplomatic facility in Benghazi, which took the lives of four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens," Obama said in his first statement at 7:21 a.m. Wednesday, the next morning.

I've always believed that if Romney continues his policy of secrets he had no chance. If he continues all the way through the debates with out answers Obama will win in a landslide. Who will pay for this tax cut of 5 trillion dollars, you say the same rich that are getting most of the savings. If you actually intend for this to be revenue neutral for the wealthiest Americans why bother with the tax cuts if the same ones who get most of the money will lose the same amount?

You can't win on bashing the other guy you have to explain how you'd do better and not just in general terms. And no we won't simply trust you because of your character Willard. We don't really know you and the best way to judge your character would be if you released your taxes and you refuse. Was the reason you failed to list a 30 million dollar offshore account on one list of assets but add it on another a simple oversight or did you accept amnesty from an account you illegally didn't claim? Were you continuing to run Bain after 1999 and merely claim to retroactively retire after 3 years? How do you retroactively retire from a solely owned company and why would it take 3 years to figure out you were never going back?

As Mittens puts his foot in his mouth each day now expect the lead to widen! As Mitt is pointed out to give those tax breaks to the upper 1% and stiff us below them he will drop even more. As he talks about taking action in Syria, Iran and now Libya again he will lose! Americans don't like republican warmongering!

And what is our president doing? Making campaign stops and speeches. He doesn't know if Egypt is an ally or an enemy and he stated Libya is a good friend. How ridiculously naive is he? He thinks he can change the minds of muslims? He considers these countries democracys? He thinks the Muslim Brotherhood is going to be support the USA?

And then he has the gall to criticize Romney for having no experience in foreign affairs? What does this community organizer know about foreign affairs?

I don't know what the polls were at for Reagan before the debates but remember Reagan blew Carters doors off at the debates. I'm old so I remember. Yes, exactly! It was the same situation four years ago. This is what we will see on October 3:

On one side of the stage, Obama: cool, commanding, comfortable in his own skin, saying what he means and meaning what he says.

On the other side, Romney: fake, simpering, awkward, looking like he'd rather be somewhere else. (Don't worry, Mittens...you will soon be relaxing in Switzerland. Go ahead and book your trip.)

Obama has the chops to be president: he IS president. President Obama will wipe the floor with Flip... and then we'll have the 'heavy weights' on FOX telling us how Romney won the debate.

I've heard the complaints that 'Rasmussen is inaccurate' and 'Rasmussen is biased', so let's look at the REAL evidence from the last two Presidential campaigns (2004 & 2008), which fortunately is easy to verify. The source for the information was Realclearpolitics.com which is a summary of all of the major polls.

In 2004, Rasmussen's final poll showed Bush winning by 1.7%, and the actual margin of victory was 2.4%, so Rasmussen was only 0.7% off of perfection. Interestingly, Rasmussen's poll was 0.7% biased in favor of the Democrat when compared with the actual result.

In 2008, Rasmussen's final poll showed Obama winning by 6.0%, and the actual margin of victory was 7.3%, so Rasmussen was 1.3% off of perfection – This time, Rasmussen's poll was 1.3% biased in favor of the Republican when compared with the actual result. Rasmussen's average error in both elections was 1.0%, which was the best of all of the major pollsters (actually tied with Pew Research).

So Rasmussen and Pew had the best average of all of the major pollsters in the last two Presidential campaigns, and Rasmussen's average 'bias' was a miniscule 0.3%, compared with an average bias of 0.95% for Pew in favor of Democrats and a bias for the others of 1.6% in favor of the Democrats.

Overall, Rasmussen has the best record for accuracy AND the least amount of bias.

      Now let's take a look at the OTHER major pollsters;

Gallup missed by a whopping 2.4% in 2004 and 3.7% in 2008, for an average error margin of 3.05% - both times biased in favor of the Democrats.

Marist missed by an almost equally large 3.4% in 2004 and 1.7% in 2008 for an average error of 2.55%, again biased in favor of the Democrats in both cases.

Reuters also missed by 3.4% in 2004 and 1.7% in 2008 for an average error of 2.55% – also biased in favor of the Democrats each time.

Interestingly, Fox (that supposed bastion of the right) missed by 4.4% in 2004 and 0.3% in 2008 – also biased in favor of the Democrats by an average of 2.05%.

In fact, of the 12 major pollsters included in Realclearpolitics averages for both 2004 and 2008, 10 of them were biased in favor of the Democrats when compared with actual results. Overall, Realclearpolitics.com's average of the polls was biased in favor of the Democrats by 1.4% in 2004 and 1.0% in 2008 compared with actual results.

One last point – All of the major pollsters switch to 'Likely Voters' just before the election because they are much more accurate than 'Registered Voter' polls, but Rasmussen is the only one that consistently polls 'Likely Voters' each time. Since Republicans consistently vote in greater percentages than Democrats, 'Registered Voter' polls seriously overstate the Democrat – typically by about 4%.

Why do you suppose the polls are so heavily oversampling Democrats? Could it be that the media wants to influence the election by attempting to discourage the conservative vote? It won't matter, because we vote and we don't need a lot of encouragement by MoveOn to remind us.

These polls are very slanted to the Democrats. the sampling of likely voters was 18% African American, in 2008 the percentage of African American voters was 12.1 which was the highest since 1988, normally runs aroun 11. It sample 71 percent White voters, in 2008 that percentage was 76.3%. All these polls mean nothing and should be taken with a grain of salt.

Good 'catch'. Since African Americans support Obama by about 95%, that 49% oversampling would account for an error in favor of Obama of 6% - Obama's entire lead in this phony poll.

Colorado-Man "Why do you suppose the polls are so heavily oversampling Democrats? Could it be that the media wants to influence the election by attempting to discourage the conservative vote?"

Exactly - It allows them to shape the narrative that Romney is desperate and Obama is in control. While it won't have much effect on the Conservative vote, they think it will 'fire up Obama's base' and perhaps influence the Independent vote, which is running against Obama.

I have to laugh at the so-called 'War on Women' that is the latest White House talking point, saying the Republicans are at 'War' against women because a few sexually active women should pay for their own birth control pills instead of having them provided by the taxpayers. The REAL war on women is being waged in strict Islamic countries, where they can be whipped for walking with a man that is not their husband, or they can have their nose cut off if they dared to not wear a veil, or thrown in jail for driving a car.

      Roy,

First and foremost, pollsters go to great lengths to poll as randomly as possible. The "science" is very aware of WHERE they poll, or HOW they poll, or WHEN they poll, because they know that a wrong polling technique will skew the data and negate the poll altogether.

You act like all these pollsters are some "Uncle Ernie" type that is there solely to secure some outcome or another. Seriously? They make their money on ACCURACY. They are hired based on PREVIOUS ACCURACY... each and every one of them. If they just wanted to hire a liar, they could go snag a GOP candidate somewhere and be done with it.

No. You are wrong... and wrong headed. I suspect you know this and have purposeful posts designed to confuse and distort, but I may be giving you too much credit... I really don't know or care much of your motives. They are right leaning, whatever they are.

To be specific... random polls are designed to be random. They do NOT assume a Dem/Rep split and seek that split in their data... they must keep the data random. Now you can claim that Republicans never answer the phone or they're never in a mall where a pollster was or that they over-sampled people with education, I don't care. You may well be right, but if you are, it was pure luck since you have no more clue about reality than me or the pollsters... and the pollsters spend their LIVES considering these things.

These are groups of people striving for ACCURACY based on complex scientific methods in a HIGHLY COMPETITIVE job market. They would no more twist or turn a poll than the man in the moon. They are betting their lives and livelihood on accuracy.

That said, the only conclusion you can make, other than some big secret unexposed conspiracy involving virtually every pollster on earth, is that people are shifting to the Democratic Party and to Obama and a Democratic Congress. You can't swallow that? Oh well.

I guess some of you missed the results of the FOX News poll this week! It has President Obama ahead as well.

The following is a quote from George Will (Republican) last Sunday (9-9-2012) on This Week with George Stephanopoulos:

"There is uncertainty surrounding the Romney/Ryan tax cut plan because they have not specified the deductions that will be closed and we know where the big money is: mortgage Interest deductions; charitable deductions; taxing as compensation, which it is; employer provided health insurance; and state and local taxes. All of those either hit only the rich in which case you don't get much money or you hit the middle class."

He has also said very strongly that Governor Romney needs to release more tax records.

LMarcT "Roy, First and foremost, pollsters go to great lengths to poll as randomly as possible."

You are missing the whole point. It would be mathematically impossible for all of these polls to 'randomly' select 30% more Democrats than Republicans consistently when recent surveys show the percentages of Republicans and Democrats are essentially equal.

You obviously don't understand how pollsters work - they don't just randomly select people and publish the results - they always analyze those samples for 'outliers' and then adjust them for what they believe are representative of the voting public. For example, if they noticed that their sample included 25% Blacks (who support Obama by 95%), they would know that they needed to make an adjustment since Blacks only represented about 12% of the vote in 2008 - a record year for Obama.

This poll by NBC has an obvious 'outlier' that has not been adjusted (or perhaps deliberately adjusted to mislead) because it included 18% Blacks in the sample, when a figure of about 11% or 12% would be realistic. That extra 6% over-sampling of Black voters accounts for virtually the entire 'lead' that they say Obama enjoys in the 'swing states'.

This is an obviously biased poll intended to overstate Obama's level of support.

At least the Democrats have been doing something rather than the Do Nothing republicans who can only add the Keystone Pipeline to 40 Bills since they are such a spoiled brat s that they want to ruin Bills that could help with jobs. What a mixed up sick party that I left 40 years ago. I keep saying that Nixon, Goldwater and Reagan would be called liberals by today's right wing nut case party members and supporters.

So if 14 people say the Earth is flat, but only one says it's round, then we should believe the 14 that it must be flat?

        Thanks for the laugh.

The whole point is that these polls over-sample Democrats by about 30% when recent surveys by Gallup and Rasmussen show them to be about equal with Republicans in the voting population (actually, Republicans are slightly ahead in party ID). This results in an artificial bias in favor of Obama by about 6%, which is Obama's entire alleged 'lead'. The 2010 Mid-Term elections should have given the pollsters a clue that the proportion of Democrats is nowhere near 30% above that of Republicans. Virtually the entire 'lead' by Obama is accounted for by including 18% of Black voters in their sample - even in 2008, when Obama had unprecedented enthusiasm among Black voters, their total was only about 12% of the vote. That alone equals a 6% bias error favoring Obama.

In fact, the exit polls for 2008, when there was a record number of Democrats, only showed about 22% more Democrats than Republicans. For the pollsters to say that this percentage has increased now to over 30% more Democrats when Obama's support is seriously eroded defies logic.

Keep in mind that NBC is controlled by Obama's buddy at General Electric (Jeff Immelt), and if you haven't noticed the blatant bias by NBC lately, you are not paying attention.

By the way - Rasmussen has Romney ahead by 3% now.

          War on Women

Republicans do not support equal pay for equal work.

A Peasonhood amendment, which Romney said he would support (also has his flip-floppy moments on) would end most forms of contraception that women currently use today. Certain formulations of the birth control pills are also used to prevent ovarian cysts (the primary topic of Sandra Fluke's talk which Rush Limbaugh didn't bother to actually listen to or intentionally lied about - her friend paid for health insurance at a Catholic University, had this medical perscription, was denied, eventually could not afford the expense - yes some bc pills cost more than others - had to have surgery to remove one of her ovaries becuse she did not have the medication ... Oh, and you see a bc pill is taken every day for a specific number of days, not every time you are going to have sex like Viagra. Other bc pill formulations also have other medical uses.) Then a lady asked Romney if he was going to take her contraception away and he said of course not. Then several weeks later he gave a speech at a Minnesota state GOP convention about the evils of contraception.

The personhood amendment would mean no abortion, period, even in the case of an illness threatening the life of the mother - too bad, so sad, if we're not going to get a live baby, you are going to die!

After the "in cases of 'legitimate rape' women don't get pregnant" garbage, Romney said he would support abortion in the cases of incest and rape. His GOP platform says otherwise. Romney also sought the support during this campaign of the primary doctor behind this 'legitimate rape' falacy. Todd Akin and Paul Ryan co-sponsored a bill redefining rape as in 'legitimate rape' as opposed to ???? Rape is rape!

The defunding of Planned Parenthood will put thousands upon thousands of women's lives at risk because they will not be able to get mamograms and other life saving tests and treatments. They will never know that they have breast cancer, ovarian cancer, uteran cancer, cervical cancer until it is way too late. They also won't be able to get the necessary medical care to help them have healthy babies. These are the primary things Planned Parenthood does.

Fundraising. Skipping security briefings. Going on Letterman. Maybe a round of golf? Just as well. If he actually did something, it would only make it worse.

You consider expecting a relatively few sexually active women to pay for their birth control pills (about $7 per month) instead of having taxpayers pay for them is a 'War on Women'?

The REAL war on women is being waged in hard-line Islamic countries where a woman could get her nose cut off for not wearing a veil, or get stoned to death for having sex outside of marriage, or get whipped for walking with a man that is not her husband, or jailed for driving a car, and where it is forbidden for young girls to go to school.

Women in America have unprecedented freedoms that women in other parts of the World could only dream about.

'War on Women' indeed - what a comical 'talking point' from Obama.

PS - The so-called 'equal pay' issue is just as prevalent under Obama as it ever was - he has done nothing to address it, except use it as a talking point and take the women's vote for granted.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows Mitt Romney attracting support from 48% of voters nationwide, while President Obama earns 45% of the vote. Two percent (2%) prefer some other candidate, and five percent (5%) are undecided. See daily tracking history.

The recent numbers may have been impacted by a number of factors. Clearly, one is the fading of the president's convention bounce. Last week, Scott Rasmussen anticipated this fade by noting that the conventions would have no lasting impact on the race.

In Ohio Obama leads by a point. In Florida, the president is up two. Romney has edged back into the lead in Missouri and now earns 51% of the vote in North Carolina.

Romney leading Obama among independent voters, 54 percent to 40 percent.

The CNN/ORC International poll showed Republicans leading Democrats among the most enthusiastic voters, 62 percent to 56 percent. The enthusiasm level helps determine which party will show up in greater numbers to vote.

              Here's a thought.

Since the Republicans are expected to retain control of the House, and possibly pick up the Senate as well, if Obama is re-elected, we could have 4 more years of gridlock and lack of growth.

On the other hand, if Romney is elected and he does not get things turned around in 4 years with a Republican Congress, they will have no one to blame but themselves, and we can perhaps elect Hillary Clinton and a Democratic Congress in 2016.

              Food for thought.

Contrary to popular opinion, FOX does not have a good record, or a Republican bias with polling - for example, their average polling error for 2004 and 2008 was a relatively large 2.35% - biased in favor of the Democrats (they overstated the Democrats actual results by an average of 2.35%).

In contrast, Rasmussen had the best record - with an average polling error of only 1.0%.

Gallup had an even worse record than FOX, showing a polling average that was 3.05% (three times as large as Rasmussen) - always showing more support for the Democrat than the actual results (Democratic bias).

Reuters and Marist were among the other poor performers, with a typical Democratic bias averaging about 3% when compared with the actual results.

When we have a close race for President, a 3% error can make all the difference in the World.

Doesn't speak well for the honesty of Fox or the intelligence of their supporters, but the jury has been back on those two issues for some time.

The polls are always wrong when they favor the other candidate and always right when they favor yours. The common voter doesn't need polls. Simply watch the reaction of the candidates, the campaigns and their supporters.

The Romney camp is more nervous than a turkey on the eve of Thanksgiving Day. Many of their most visible and famous supporters are throwing rotten tomatoes at them. The electorate now sees them with their make-up askew and all of the ugliness beneath it.

What do Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Stephen King (the horror writer), and Bill Maher have in common with Obama? They all are on record as wanting their taxes raised.

What does NBC have in common with Obama? They enjoy lying to liberals:

Look at page 8 of each of the "polls".

                      Viginia:
                      REGISTERED VOTERS
                      Strong Democrat 22

                      Total 100

                      Ohio:
                      REGISTERED VOTERS
                      Strong Democrat 27
                      Not strong Democrat 10
                      Democrat leaning Independent 12

                      Not strong Republican 8
                      Strong Republican 19
                      Other 1
                      Total 100

                      Florida:
                      REGISTERED VOTERS
                      Strong Democrat 25
                      Not strong Democrat 11
                      Democrat leaning Independent 11
                      Just Independent 10
                      Republican leaning Independent 10
                      Not strong Republican 10
                      Strong Republican 22
                      Other 1
                      Total 100

Notice how every single group of Democrats from every state has a larger representation than it's Republican counterpart? (except for "leaning Independent " in VA which is a tie)

Imagine the "luck" it must take to "randomly" sample people and ALWAYS end up with a Democrat skewed group.

                      NBC has no shame.

The Republican party is the only political party in the history of the United States to plot and conspire in secret to subvert the President and the Nation in a time of war and it go without investigation! Frankly, after the epic failures of the GOP and the treason that they have committed in obstructing our Nation's economy they have lent aid and comfort to America's enemies and they want to blame President Obama for his conduct when they are the real culprits of the epic economic mess of 2007 and the slow recovery. Hey Republicans if you can stand the truth look in the mirror and you will see it is at your feet that all the problems of our Nation lay. On top of all the treason previously committed my the Republicans the lies to cover it all up are as bad as the act of treason it self. No question about it there needs to be an Independent Special Prosecutor appointed to investigate and prosecute the culprits. The criminal conspiracy of the Republicans began long before January 20, 2009 but that is when they made their treason and treachery their official party platform. Cowards! Traitors! Rats every last one of the Republicans. They cast the first stone then they act like they are the victim. The Nation is very tired of that BS.

They try this "vote on Day X" crap every year - especially calling minority and elderly households that might actually be fooled.

Since the election is really on "Day Y".

                      That's traitor stuff, people.

Walmart applications is an Obama job creation strategy that is why he created so many jobs for green panels in china to keep thier factories open and supplying Walmart.

You think Romney got super rich in such a short time by paying American workers good wages? Obama has never had any reason or incentive to outsource jobs. Even Romney's greatest success story Staples pays starting wages between $8.15 an hour to $9.29 an hour for non management jobs which is no better than Walmart. Better to leave the Walmart argument for Obama supporters as Obama wants the highest paying jobs possible and Romney clearly as a vulture capitalist wants the lowest where ever in te world he has to go to get them. There's a difference between a president who provides a grant to a company and that company outsources some work and a presidential candidate that buys a company, fires the employees and starts producing in China.

After all of the things he does not know how to do, he relentlessly plays golf on our dine, does not stand for a hill of beans, and you are still going to vote for him. ancee: You really should check facts before making allegations. The following is from factcheck.org. Of course you really don't care you'll simply make something else up. Notice the last 3 republicans took the most vacation days.

Q: Has President Obama taken more vacation time than his predecessors?

A: According to one count, Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush spent more time on "vacation" during their first year than President Obama did. Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton spent less time on "vacation."

                      Here's from CBS news:

So far, President Obama has taken 61 vacation days after 31 months in office.
At this point in their presidencies, George W. Bush had spent 180 days at his
ranch where his staff often joined him for meetings. And Ronald Reagan had taken
112 vacation days at his ranch.

Among recent presidents, Bill Clinton took the least time off -- 28 days.

To be fair, a presidential vacation away from the White House is not the same
as a vacation for the average person. The president is still in contact with his
advisers and on call for any emergency

Here's another interesting 'tweak' by NBC - They sampled 18% African Americans (who support Obama by 95% - gee, I wonder if that could be called 'reverse racism?).

The actual African American vote for Obama in 2008, when he had unprecedented support, was only 12%. That 50% oversampling of African Americans in their poll amounts to virtually all of Obama's 6% lead in these key states. And that only accounts for a part of the over-sampling of Democrats in general.

Gee, I wonder if that was deliberate?

Are all you Obama supporters totally brainwashed or is it just the lemming factor? The Middle East is literally exploding, they have attacked an AMerican school in Tunisia, a college in Texas had to shut down because a Muslim man claimed he had planted bombs there and what does NBC have for headlines this morning, the same old BS of Obama is ahead in three swing states. I can't decide who is more ignorant of reality, NBC or the posters who know nothing of what is happening in the world but spend their time supporting the man who has led us all to these days which trust me are only going to get much worse.

And if Mittens were in office now, this would be even worse. He would be running around trying to figure out what to do because we all know he can't make up his mind. It keeps changing every 5 minutes.

So if 14 people say the Earth is flat, but only one says it's round, then we should believe the 14 that it must be flat?

Yeah....I'm willing to bet in that situation you would not be the one discovering the earth is round while everyone else is behind the curve.

The average of all recent polls show Obama up 4.2 points among *likely* voters. His numbers get better among registered voters.

And more importantly, your beloved Rasmussen has him up in Ohio, Florida, etc, etc, etc. And in what world after the 3 debates in October do you see Romney improving? Romney is going to get crushed. He's inept when it comes to debating.

The math is extremely difficult for Romney. He has to sweep so many battleground states, almost all of which show him currently behind no matter which poll you want to look to. The average in Ohio has moved away from him over the last week. That's a state I think he has almost 0 chance of winning. Unions are important, autowork is important, and Obama wins there on that over Romney.

Without Ohio Romney has maybe a 1% chance of winning.

Florida is really good news for president Obama. Romney's big push was for Florida. He seems to be sliding faster

The right wing slime machine has barely begun it's "Citizens United" advertising TV buys. The one positive here is that there is a finite amount of time to buy for the few weeks prior to the election. But you can bet that the Rove/Armey, Fox, Limbaugh propaganda specialists will try any lie they can knowing that facts are no longer required.

It is possible however, that they may have already concluded that throwing good money after bad is no longer showing any impact. It remains to be seen, but these criminals invented Watergating, Swiftboating, birthers, poll-taxes, and were equal to Dems in resurrecting the dead to get votes. They are indeed imaginative with their lies. No organized political party has been so outrageous in their efforts to steal elections by illegal activities. They won't stop now. Constitution? They only care about the 2nd amendment.

This is bad news for Romney in more ways than one. If he gets further behind, the gangsters, er I mean the people financing his bid, will begin to pull $$ from the campaign. He's hitched his wagon to the Tea Party Express and it's running out of gas. Aww, too bad.

So true, and I'm sure many of us, who don't live in BattleGround States, are very happy about our good fortune.

I'm also sure, Those Citizen United SuperPacs, commercials, will be mostly ignored, by people changing channels or the mute button.

Remember the Ford Edsel? Okay I don't either, but most of us have heard about it. No amount of advertiing, will make people buy anything, they don't need or don't want. Or is downright disgusting. The only good thing, is all that money, to those TV stations, is boosting their profits, and creating jobs.

If you live in Florida and want to send a message to our slime-ball felon Governor, vote a straight Democratic ticket. There might not be a process to impeach the crook here in Florida, but a strong Democratic showing would be a good kick in his ---s.

We suffered a terrible tragedy Tuesday, September 11, with the attack on our Embassy in Libya and the loss of those four wonderful Americans.

It is said that something good usually comes out a tragedy, and in this case, it appears to be true. We, the people of these United States, were shown the true mentality, ignorance and lack of caring for it's citizens and this country by Romney in his addressing the Libya situation for his political gain, facts be d*mned, thereby making a complete a$$ of himself while doing so. Thank goodness he has exposed his true self.

He has shown in the last few days since how much the United States and it's people DO NOT mean anything to him.

It doesn't sound like that's really working out well for him. Darn!

Hey Johnny B, I agree with you wholeheartedly, but a small correction--Edsel was it's own marque, manufactured by Ford Motor Company. Calling it a "Ford Edsel" is similar to calling something a "Chrysler Dodge." Small point, I know. Full disclosure, I actually own two Edsels.

Yeah I remember the Ford Edsel . I went shopping for a car and looked at one and we couldn't come to terms so I didn't buy one. They had the forst four head lights and they called them turn pike lights. Ha I also remember the Nash ( which I had owned a 1953 that had a bed that was formed by the fold down seats)which Daddy Romney was the CEO and he saved the company and renamed it American Motors. Says he saved it and for some reason I haven't seen a Rambler dealer in my town.

Don't remember about the transmission seem like they refered to an outdated under carriage I know the mechanics hated to work on them. I had owned a 1948 studebacher as my first car. Had a lot of advance stuff on it a hill holder which I loved, the first overdrive that was dangerous in the hills ,had something they called a poor mans automatic transmission where you could change gears without using the clutch. The studebahers couldn't keep rings in them and put out a huge smoke screen.

I had one. Good automobile. Ford stopped making 'em because they were taking away the market of their other cars, especially Mercuries.

@ Quiet One: Mine was a 1958 model. Never had any transmission problems. Kept It several years after they quit making 'em, and finally sold it to a collector. An all around pretty good car. Not nearly as good as the great "General motors" autos though. Regards

@Underwhelmed=3907233 and others, Sorry about that. I came to the States in 1962 and a American Citizen in 1968. I didn't want to be vulgar. but the story I heard, that said, although it was a pretty good car for that era, it was their front Grill, that put those Fifties, buyers off, is that it was shaped like a Woman's private parts, her Vagina.

It might have done better with those Repubican Politicians, who think they have the right to control a woman's right to her own body parts. Heaven forbid, Government, should interfere with personal issues.

Except, when the GOP think it's their right to do so.

Too bad we can't get a good canidate from all of the parties. but Mitt is better than Obama in my book. Fours years ago, I had a job, now I don't. I had a job for a short period of time until the stimulas money was cancelled and the work was shipped to India because the labor was cheaper. Not better, but cheaper. Of all the work, it still had to be re-done as usual.

I remember when his surrogates a few months ago saying about the polls being so close it was because people didnt know Romney. That after the conventions when he put out his plan he would be leading by at least 10 points. Well conventions are over and people are getting to know Romney and Obama's numbers are going up. Maybe you should have hid him a little longer.

If Obama is re-elected then we are all doomed. I am so tired of hearing you people talk bad about Romney because he is a millionaire. Well so is Obama but you don't seem to mind that at all. Oprah is a billionaire. So what!? Romney came by his money honest so what is the issue here? The old double standard as usual. You should never elect a president because of his race or judge another candidate by a past presidents behavior. It is unfair to judge anyone else over another. Name one thing that Obama has done that is so great, besides be a typical politician and we all know how they are. Obama has an a hidden adjenda here people and you are just too blind to see that!!! If he is re-elected we will no longer be America, the land of the free and the home of the brave. We will be a country run by radical Muslims. Obama is already allowing them to enter into our armed forces. Or aren't you aware of the soldier on trial now for the murders of many at our own military base? And he is not the only one to commit such crimes either. Our own soldiers! Against our country because your president lets them be there. We will be told what to eat, wear and how to feel. You just watch and see. Educate yourselves and watch your backs. I know I am....ROMNEY/RYAN ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

John, how is the supposedly "war on women" tied to Alma's post? Alma's got it right, and those lemmings that are following the scent at BO's butt need to move to fresher air and get out of the mezmerizing stink.

I agree with Alma, there are muslims moving in all over the place. Although they have been coming here for years, until recently, they weren't so heavily burdening our military. I read the other day that they kill their fellow soldiers (Americans) rather than go against their own terrorists because their religion tells them a muslim shouldn't kill a muslim. What are they doing in the military in the first place?

The other thought from a poster here, is what does everyone have against someone who EARNED his financial independence? He's a business man, are you all so sure set in your ways that blood sucking democraps are the way to go? Remember it was a democrap who began SS and forced all to pay into it. It's now a democrap who's taken $716B to pay for his own program! I for one have worked and been forced to pay into that fund for over 40 years now, and to think that it's all for naught?! If Barry Sotelo is re-elected, this country will be in big trouble.

Barry Sotelo or whomever he is needs to be fired and it appears Mr. Romney and Mr. Ryan have the better of the qualifications to replace him. I still think if they sit down and look at the "books" so to speak, they are going to call the blood sucking dems out to explain why there has to be a multi-million dollar program for everything that's being done. If it puts some of those do nothing federal workers out of a job, so what! And those jobs that Barry is claiming he gave to the American public -- 16,000+/- went to IRS for his obamacare program. How's that qualify for lowering the unemployment and why should it count?

The obama lemmings are still out there. Could see them in '08 however, I don't think there are as many as before. I have heard and read that even a majority of the African-Americans have had a change of heart. They have found that he hasn't come through with his promises to them either.

Another fact is that if you squeeze the top 500 how are they going to be able to employ anyone? It's the "working rich companies" that expand and hire. If you suck them dry of any "working capital profit" how are they going to expand and hire?

You can take and take and take, give it all to those who are unworthy of earning their own way, and those who do earn and pay taxes are just going to quit earning and paying taxes.

So all of the polls have your cut and paste listed on them on page 8? Or are you exaggerating in a desperate attempt to twist the facts to conform to your insane fantasies?

President Obama in November! He is clearly our only rational choice!

You do understand how polls work right? They aren't asking their party but how they intend to vote. They poll 100 random people and ask them how they consider themselves and who they're voting for. I'm an independent but in this election if polled would state I strongly support Obama as I detest Romney so I'd be strongly democratic.. I voted for Bush Sr. and would have stated I lean strongly republican and hated Bush Jr. So you see how that works? If they were trying to deceive you they'd simply give the results.

Well Northstar the extremists are RUNNING the GOP now so their not likely to clean their own house unless the voters clean it for them. I'm all for that however!! I have voted Republican in past elections but never again until they actually step back from the insanity that is today's GOP.

                        You are right.

I was thinking of more on the state and congressional level.

We have lots of new tea party folks that took control of our state legislature. We still have some moderate Republicans and hopefully their voices will be heard rather than the tea party wild eyed religious extremists because they will lose come November.

Given the "stellar" cast the GOP gave us in the primaries, they will have to do some serious reorganization.

Please, please, PLEASE let us not forget Congress. The bigger the losses to the GOP the more they will have to regroup and come back to the real world after picking off the teabagger leaches. Let the teabaggers put their collective brain cells together and try to form their own party.

Shocked -- Yes, I agree. Every state is a battleground state; the only way to send a message to the obstructionist Republican saboteurs is for Democrats to pick up as many seats in the House and Senate as is possible. Let's not be complacent. With the possibility of victory, now is the time to fight twice as hard.

I think everyone on this thread is in total agreement that the GOP needs to align themselves. It's sad that the principles they once stood for are now lost to them. For this to be a healthy, United States, we can't have it so fractured. The tea party movement needs to go. When people like Jon Huntsman and John McCain are embarrassed by their own party? Speaks volumes.

A good debate is when both sides are well respected and both voices are heard to give people options. We're not there right now and so need to be.

And………here’s more since President Obama Took Office:

Tax on Companies that ship jobs overseas- A bill that would have eliminated a tax break that companies get when they ship jobs overseas. Republicans blocked this, allowing companies to keep the tax break they receive when they ship jobs to other countries.

The Small Business Jobs Act -would give LOCAL, community banks access to billions of dollars to loan to small businesses. Republicans blocked this, then attempted to block it a second time and failed.

Repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”- Would have repealed the law that forces gay and lesbian services members to lie about their sexuality and gives the military the right to discharge soldiers based on their sexuality. Republicans blocked this many times and Democrats were finally able to pass it with the support of just 2 Republicans.

You Guessed it…………Cantor, Boehner, McConnell and da rest of them Republican TeaBilly Conservative Politicians.

Can you imagine da Shenanigans if Mitt “F da Poor” Romney and Paul “Middle Class Warfare” Ryan get Elected.

The people understand the value of President Obama as opposed to Willard Romney, and will handily re-elect Him. Now, if everyone could understand the mess the republican Congress has made, and the suffering the sons-a-bitches have inflicted upon the American people, then get rid of these insufferable miscreants, the Nation might very well recover, to the point of bearing hopeful and aspiring people, able once again to go about the business of "the pursuit of happiness". In 2000 we sure took a wrong turn somewhere close to "Crawford Texas". We're all better off dead than to do that again. Let Mitt Romney go off somewhere and hunker down with His tax returns, while Ryan finds an ophthalmologist who can fix His involuntary eye blaring ever time He tells a whopper. Maybe his "Obamacare" insurance will pay for it.

Before stating my opinion....I THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY!!!

And the "president" who has our troops train the enemy to kill our own IS????????? A close friend of mine has a grandson and his best friend who were both there. Her grandson was wounded and his best friend was killed by the same people they had trained not long before that!!

Stand up and tell them how Obama is better!!!!

While I'm on the subject somewhat...Right now the world has become very volatile in many areas..does it really make any sense to cut our military?? This country has always stood tall because our military stands ready when any enemy poses a threat although; we did have one president that failed to use that strength because he was too busy chasing the girls to pay attention to business. Had he acted when he should have, we may not have been in the "pickle" we are now!!

I am quite sure that Obama doesn't want our military to vote because those overseas have seen Obama's lack of leadership and arrogance!! He sends them to die in combat and wants to forget they are there when it comes time for them to vote!!

Personally, I find the fact that he hides simple things like his education, his birth certificate, & basically his life from the American People pretty ridiculous IF in fact; what he has been showing as copies, are correct!! I also find that basically, his arrogance in wanting to remove GOD from our country is like spitting on our constitution & christians around the world!!

Wow, Linda. Separation of church and state is as American as apple pie. If you have issues with that, then move to Iran where they believe the way you believe.

I've never witnessed, and neither have you, Linda, a circumstance when the President of the United States of America has advocated removing "god" from our country. If he did, however, support removing YOUR "god", I would stand behind him 100 percent. Your "god" has obviously made you thoughtless and delusional and has absolutely nothing to do with the Jesus that President Obama loves.

Linda-dearest - YOU spit on the Bible, Christians and the Constitution every time you repeat your filthy lies. Try leading by example instead of being a bossy, brainwashed freak and maybe someone outside of you "klan" will listen to the garbage you barf.

Shame on you and shame on your god for supporting your dishonest behavior.

This one always cracks me up. On the wrong track because...of Obama? House GOP? Economy? Family Values?

It doesnt matter who you are you can find something wrong and blame people you disagree with. The question is incredibly dumb in this partisan age.

We are all aware that the country is in dire need, I do not want to see a republican derailment of what little is left and I have to support a steady return to sanity over some cooked up scheme to outsource what is left after the last round of outsourcing.

Romney and his me first rabbit punch to President Obama regarding recent events in Libya and Egypt , without knowing any of the facts at all, show him to be no more than a knee jerk. He is an empty suit with no plan aside from enriching his supporters who are wealthy. The mindless poor who are nothing more than fodder for him to feed off will follow him blindly. If you want to see the economy improve, I would look to programs that support American business, for Americans. I can not see how supporting an outsource minded candidate could never result in anything other than continued job loss and an economy that will crash and burn.

We are headed in the right direction, forward. If you are seeking instant gratification you will be disappointed. To think that Romney actually has any answers is ludicrous, if he had anything of substance, he would have used it in this campaign. He would not be one to shoot if he had any bullets. He has no details to offer because their simply aren't any. His only answers to this point are to gut the poor and the sick, enrich the wealthy, and to promise you a better tomorrow....you just have to trust him. I only trust him to lie and cheat and use smear tactics and try to instill fear in the mindless.

Ithink you are far more stupid to think Willard is the answer to solve our country's problems. Before telling a sane person like 'voiceinmyhead' (from his/her post it's plainly evident she/he is sane and does not need any medication) to take medicines, why don't you take yours?

Considering your name, I would think that you would do your research on who was polled. Oh wow, 100 whole people and more Democrats than Republicans in every poll. I'm sure that if they poll the other way, the Romney/Ryan would be ahead, but the MSN liberal rag couldn't possible be impartial. Just the facts my ass...

Conn-yankee...Was your despicable grammar used to prove a point, or were you home schooled?

Miss Mittsy will not release his tax returns because, if the American people saw exactly how many millions he made off with while the rest of the American public lost their jobs, retirement and homes, there isn't a town that he could visit without being greeted with tar and feathers.

Miss Mittsy is the moral scum of the Earth and "conn-yankee" a perfect example of one of his unwilling followers. You get what was paid for, "conn". Either live with it or do a better job vetting your candidates next time.

grazed: No one has yet to explain why Mr. Romney is such a lame person for not showing his taxes. What does this have to do with whether or not he's capable of handling the position he's applying for?

These issues you protest are so inadequate and small they shouldn't matter. What should matter is does Mr. Romney have the BUSINESS sense that Barack Hussein Obama doesn't have. I believe he's going to prove that he does have the BUSINESS sense, and he's definitely not going to treat the whitehouse like his backyard club house for cronies.

And more to the fact, Barack HUSSEIN Obama has put more cheating cronies into his cabinet than most. Look at his secretary of treasury Timmy Geitner--did he ever pay his back taxes? or has he been printing money to cover that? Vann Jones? and the others. What about his fast and furious that he's never come clean about?

And why do you think Mr. Romney should have come out with some kind of statement (or not) about this weeks middle east turmoil? He's not president yet, maybe he's stepping back in favor of the Chief-Jerk in Office to develop a spine and stand up for our people. Hussein Oblama isn't going to do that because it would be against his fellow muslims and that's against their religion!

Who in the hell are you listening to, "patricia"? "Hussein" Obama? Really?? You call yourself "Larsen"?? Wouldn't that be Norwegian? Well....since the Norwegians were notorious slave traders back in the day, we can all just assume that you are a racist bigot, right? Why am I not surprised with a teabagger making fun of people's names...typical playground mentality of intellectually challenged "adults".

Mitt Romney chimed in on Libya on his own, without being asked - or did they gloss over that fact on your foxy-notsy news channel...or were you to glassy-eyed to notice?

Stating that the President is a muslim means that you are a fool and a liar. Doesn't it make you sick to have to stoop to such a low level to be able to support Miss Mittsy? Try reading the Ten Commandments some day, little girl, before you continue spitting on the Bible and all that Christ stood for.

...and then go beg forgiveness for being a deceitful liar.

The dullards that read this need to have any type of positive re-enforcement in order for them to keep from falling into despair and giving up the fight - much like high school cheerleaders do to boost the morale of their losing football team.

Polls are skewed all the time, depending on who takes them they are the same as any statistic which can be made to support any view. Right now polls - even from the right-wing media - have to keep up the peoples (would-be voters) morale. The polls will level out in the last week or so and become more accurate, but only because they are all trying to look more respectful and unbiased in the public eye. But the ONLY true poll will be Nov. 6 on election day. But until then let all the dullards have their day.

For your information the reason there are more democrats in the poll is because there are more democrats in the population stupid! It represents a portional view of the population why would someone produce a poll with 50% republicans when the population isn't 50% republican? answer me that !

I cannot wait for the Republican Circular Firing Squad to begin the day after the election. And I'm REALLY excited about the Republicans wrongly concluding that what caused them to lose was not fielding a CONSERVATIVE ENOUGH candidate and running Huckaboom in 2016 against Hillary.

It's really strange, but each time the former GOP lose an Election, they never think, maybe we should move back to the Center, and bring in more diversity. They move even further right, until now, they will actually being sliding off the Political Cliff.

I guess they don't read the Census reports, and still are hoping, there will be a large increase of angry white voters. They will need to amass, over 60% of those, and still that won't be enough. Especially when you disaffect the rest of the population. Not to mention, the GOP has never got over 60% of white male voters.

There are two things I'm eager to hear after the election has been decided.

                                    1. Romney's concession.

                                    2. Rush Limbaugh's show the day after.

@JohnnyB - I agree with you! Here's a list of other things republicans don't listen to:

-census data (when you have no black voters, might it just be time to switch up the strategy and start considering minorities point of view??)

-sociological reports done by Ivy league professors (ie the many ones on how gay parents can raise a child just as well as a heterosexual couple)

-climate specialists (ie the 99.9% of geologists that believe in global warming)

-The Bible (because the Bible is all about helping people, not taking away every single resource they have until they are suffering)

-women (ie the ones arguing against their policies)

                                      • The flipity-flopity.
                                      • No real plan of his own; only criticism.
                                      • The lying.
                                      • The inserting his foot into his mouth before facts are known.
                                      • The lack of support from his own party.
                                      • The failure to produce his tax returns.

Yes, some Democrats will still blindly follow him.

Desperation is skewing "polls" until numbers become acceptable enough to feed the gullible sheep.

Look at page 8 of each of the "polls".

Imagine the "luck" it must take to "randomly" sample people and ALWAYS end up with a Democrat skewed group.

They're asking people how they intend to vote this election and apparently many republicans are intending to vote democratic this year. You keep reposting this to prove some conspiracy and you only prove Romneys losing support even within his party.

This just in, THAT IS NOT A FACT!

                                      Here are some facts:

WHY OBAMA SHOULD NOT BE PRESIDENT FOR ANOTHER TERM:

                                      1. Unemployment over 8% for 43 consecutive months. Obama promised it would be under 7 in his term and economists project in a month it will be over 10%.

                                      2. National debt approaching 16 BILLION dollars. He called Bush "unpatriotic" for his debt but Obama has spent more than ALL previous presidents combined!

                                      3. 800 BILLION dollars of stimulus which didn't work. Obama gave 50 BILLION to GM of which 25 BILLION of our money we will never see.

                                      7. 100 MILLION people on some type of welfare.....NOT INCLUDING SS and Medicare! Over a third of our country!

                                      8. Obama stated “I think when you spread the wealth around, it is good for everybody”. Entitlements for taxpayers to go into more debt, half of America is literally living off the other half.

I just worked 8 hours to put gas in my tank, the middle east is rioting in the streets, Isreal is on it's own, my grandchildren owe this nation thousands of dollars and the idiotic liberals continue their lies distortions and devotion to the man responsible for all this in my country! These people are either the most self serving evil people in the world or they are to stupid to get out of thier own way but no-one believes for a minute Obama is good for America and a second term will let him finish the destruction of America. As far as the lie that the Republicans are the obstructionist let me remind these liars it is the democrats that have not pass a bill in nearly 4 years. STOP THE LIES

Yes, let's make sure we allow people who are not legal to vote to cast a vote for Mr. Free Shidt!

You liberals sound like the fascists in that your are all talking as if once your "BOY" gets his second term, there will be no more anything aside from secular / progressive / Godless liberals running everything.

You are all going to wish you'd never been born after Obama turns this into a third - world nation.

I guess if the world has to end, bring it on! I am sick of the stupidity of many of my so - called "fellow countrymen". The nation deserves to fall and with your votes for Obama and socialism, it will do just that.

People like Jim are so worried we want to take Romneys stuff but it isn't the middle class after his it's him after ours. Isn't his paying at most 14% low enough? Lowering the top rate 10% and eliminating capital gains would make his rate probably close to zero. I owned a business when Reagan was president and made 6 figures in the 70's when that was good money. I've never gotten food stamps, welfare or even unemployment. I paid a lot of taxes when the top rate was 70%, Romneys is low enough and mine high enough.

More FACTS: What has Obama accomplished his years in office?

                                      1. Obama promised to get us out of Iraq ASAP, has he? NO! He has not even tried. Soldiers keep dying almost daily.
                                      2. Obama promised to get the USA out of Afghanistan, has he? NO! Obama has sent over more troops and we past 2000 American deaths in August 2012.
                                      3. Obama promised to close Guantanamo Bay, has he? NO! Obama has not even tried. (Some say so he’ll have somewhere to live when he is impeached and convicted).
                                      4. Obama released to the media he has quit smoking! Has he? NO! He has regularly been seen sucking on cigarettes. Quitting takes moral fiber which he lacks entirely. Bottom line, he still SUCKS!
                                      5. Obama promised hundreds of times 4 years ago to publish pending legislation for a few weeks on C-Span for a “public comment period”. Has he? NO! Nobody at C-Span has heard word one from his administration. Not only that, he has done exactly the opposite! He routinely introduces 1000 page legislation a couple hours before the scheduled vote with a quick, “trust me, I’m Obama”.
                                      6. Obama promised to produce a real birth certificate, has he? No! Only a document not accepted as official identification, never a regular birth certificate, WHY?
                                      7. Obama promised to “fix” the USA economy within 90 days when Bill Clinton called his financial plan a “fantasy”. Has Obama “fixed” the USA economy? NO! Thanks Obama for cash for clunkers! What a great “fix” for the economy! The “clunkers” were re-sold and are still on the road, the taxpayers got screwed again, but thanks!
                                      8. Obama promised to “fix” the USA economy, yet we are in more debt by many times than ever before. China is balking at buying out credit now thanks to the mounting Obama debt.
                                      9. Obama promised to “fix” unemployment, but 1 in 4 Americans in unemployed or underemployed, far worse than 4 years ago.
                                      10. Obama promised to create jobs, but even with his new calculation including “saved jobs” which economist’s value as “voodoo math” he has lost more jobs during the years he has been in office than before he was in office.
                                      11. Obama DID take credit for forces which were in place long before he was elected which eventually killed Osama Bin Laden.
                                      12. Obama promised this election was going to be a dirty, ugly war and immediately set about doing that all by himself. Obama has not only NOT worked on a bi-partisan level, he has done exactly the opposite stirring up class wars, rhetoric, fights and more.
                                      13. Obama promised to “restore” the middle class in America, which has been nearly cut in half since he was elected years ago. Obama was quoted by a close aide, “The lower income earners are not smart enough to earn more, so we have to do it for them”. He single handedly created a class war knowing those not smart enough were his target audience.
                                      14. Obama promised the “rich” would pay for the “poor”, so did Karl Marx, Frederick Engels, Vladamir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, and Mao Tse-tung. Obama told to Joe the Plummer, “I think when you spread the wealth around, it is good for everybody”. What about those you steal from? NOT good for them! What about the American Dream? Obama single handedly KILLED the American Dream!
                                      15. Obama promises healthcare in the form of what he calls, “affordable”, The American taxpayer can’t afford it. Who can? Freedom used to be what the USA was about, now Obama says, “You WILL buy my health insurance or be fined” What kind of freedom is that?
                                      16. Why has Obama “classified” his college transcripts? What Obama he hiding? Are they in the same place as his Birth Certificate?
                                      17. Obama promised unemployment during his term would remain under 7%. Unemployment has remained above 8% for 43 consecutive months and is projected to rise to above 10% within a month.
                                      18. Obama called Bush “unpatriotic” because of the high national debt, yet Obama has more than doubled the debt spending 100 Billion Dollars in his first 50 days in office.
                                      19. Under Obama, food stamp use has increased 20%.
                                      20. Under Obama, a third of the USA is on some kind of welfare.
                                      21. President Bush added 0.61 Trillion per year for 8 years to the deficit. Obama added 1.76 Trillion a year for three years to the deficit, averaging than 2.9 times President Bush. What do we have to show for all the new Obama debt? New roads? Bridges? Anything? NO! “Cash for Clunkers”.
                                      22. Obama was a “Community Organizer” in Chicago. Thanks for organizing the gangs! Now they are successfully killing each other. Thanks the strictest gun laws in the country! Guns don’t kill people, Obama’s “Organized” Chicago kills people.
                                      23. At the Democratic National Convention, the Obama team talked a great deal about the (Bush initiated) death of Osama Bin Laden, but barely mentioned the healthcare initiative known as Obamacare. Why is he embarrassed about the healthcare and financial debacle he is leading us into?
                                      24. Obama lead the fight to get teachers in Chicago more pay. Sounds like a good idea, may parents were both school teachers. I know the need. Yet the average income in Chicago is just over 30k and the average teachers salary in Chicago is 71k yet they are striking right now. Thanks gain Obama!
                                      25. Senator Obama called Bush “unpatriotic” for voting once in 8 years to raise the debt ceiling. Yet, Obama has not only voted to raise the debt ceiling, he has done it multiple times in much less time spending almost exactly 3 times what Bush did in a much shorter time span. Is Obama calling himself “unpatriotic”now?

These are simple facts. We ARE in Iraq, Afghanistan AT war, Guantanamo OPEN, Obama DOES still suck cigarettes, Obama has NOT contacted C-Span, we have NOT seen a real birth certificate, Obama HAS spent more than ALL previous presidents combined, unemployment IS out of control, Simple Facts. Why on heaven, earth or Mars would anybody even remotely begin to think Obama has done anything worth repeating?!

A closer definition of insanity, stew, would be telling the same lies over and over expecting any one to believe your garbage. Birth certificate? Really??

Jim and JW - thank you for posting. The more you expose the "tea" party for what it is, the sooner decent Americans will throw you to the curb. Keep up the good work.

The real loser no matter who wins in November will be our environment. Neither the President or Romney plan on doing anything to clean up our environment. Truly a sad state of affairs. I wish there was a 3rd party candidate because these 2 bring nothing good for our environment to the plate. The corporations are the winner and clean air is the loser.

If there was 10 parties a strong environmental platform would be a loser. Most of us want clean water and air but aren't willing to pay $10 a gallon for gas or give up our jobs to get them. We have to accept a balance. If you're an environmentalist you have to weigh which candidate would be best for what's important to you.

"How can we be so arrogant? The planet is, was, and always will be stronger than us.
We can't destroy it; if we overstep the mark, the planet will simply erase us from its surface and carry on existing.
Why don't they start talking about not letting the planet destroy us?
Because "Saving the planet" gives a sense of power, action and nobility.
Whereas "not letting the planet destroy us" might lead us to feelings of despair and impotence, and to a realisation of just how very limited our capabilities are.

We need to Pass a New Law: Lets call it “Da Dick Cheney” Law.

For Any Future Wars or Invasions: All Politicians have to send a Son or Daughter to the Front Line. If it is Truly something that we have to do, they should have no problem with that.

If Romney / Ryan are Elected……….Mitt needs to send all 5 Sons.

Do ya know what is Really Irresponsible? Invading Countries, Policing da World at the U.S. Taxpayer Expense, and giving away Billions of $$$$$$$$ to Foreign Countries like Pakistan …just to be “Our Little Friend”.

                                            You Bet Cha…….Fer Sure.

Its good to point out military service but shouldn't we include the President who never served in the military. I believe politicians are more in tune that have served this country. Neither person running for President has put on a uniform.

The economy is in the toilet and I am sure most people don't want another 4 years of misery.

It may be true that Romney has never served, but he is all for a strong Military, and keeping it up tod date. Obama is all for cutting the Military, and leaving us weak.

We need a third party because neither person running for Predident will be good for our environment.

The saddest thing right now that is on everyones mind is how high the unemployment rate is and the economy is the worst it has ever been in history. People have quit looking for work: Thats how screwed up our economy is. We don't need 4 more years of misery.

I do agree with one poster who said that politicians should make their children serve in the wars they authorize.

I agree with your post especially after President Obama Proposed to start charging veterans in January $200 for Tricare for life to make it more in line with the private sector. I didn't now the private sector got shot at or had to endure the hardships the miltary endures. The President is also proposing increasing copays for the military.

What a slap in the face to all who have served this country. My first year in the military I made $2400. Try to live on that with a family.

Politicians for the most part don't have a clue. The military deserves recognition for the sacrifices they make on a daily basis and Mr. President the military has earned the benefits you are trying to reduce.

How does it feel to be the only one left on that little lyin' island of yours?

Mitt is LYING FOR THE LORD. He wants to bring on armageddon because he one of the Mormon chosen few, with a ticket to the stars.

He is of a new segment of society that truly believes that lying for the lord and making as much money as you can is just fine. the eye of the proverbial needle just got a little bigger.

Bill Washington-I will not be voting for Romney even though I belong to his church. I will not vote for him because I do not believe in the Republican mantra and never have. However, your remarks about his religious beliefs and personal values are invalid at best. Step into the world of an LDS family, like Mitt's, and there is a lot to be admired and respected and much mythology would be debunked. Conversely, there is much to be admired in all religions when one gets the right story line.
