Obama: A new challenge

“Turmoil in the Arab world linked to a contentious video denigrating the Prophet Muhammad spread on Thursday to Yemen, where hundreds of protesters stormed the United States Embassy, two days after assailants killed the American ambassador in Libya and crowds tried to overrun the embassy compound in Cairo,” the New York Times writes. “News reports also spoke of a separate protest in Tehran, where around 500 Iranians chanting “Death to America” tried to converge on the Swiss Embassy, which handles United States interests in the absence of formal diplomatic relations with Washington.”

“Chanting ‘death to America,’ hundreds of protesters angered by an anti-Islam film stormed the U.S. Embassy compound in Yemen's capital and burned the American flag on Thursday, the latest in a series of attacks on American diplomatic missions in the Middle East,” USA Today writes. “The protesters breached the usually tight security around the embassy and reached the compound grounds but did not enter the main building housing the offices.”

The Washington Post: “The assault Tuesday evening on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi and an earlier attack on the U.S. Embassy in Cairo represent the most serious challenge yet to Obama’s attempt to transform a traditionally anti-American region into one that is more trusting of U.S. intentions and can serve as a counterweight, with Israel, to Iran’s ambitions.”

Despite the pushback Romney’s gotten, Washington wasn’t happy with the original Cairo embassy statement, The Cable blog reports.

The governments in the Middle East must protect the citizens of foreign countries who are in their country. If they can not - how can they expect to attract foreign investors or boost trade with foreign companies and governments or encourage tourists to bring their dollars or bring in factories from overseas or take their place in civilized diplomatic circles?

And here's the problem - nowadays - someone anywhere in the world sitting in their basement with their tin foil hat on in front of their computer can create a piece of garbage that is insulting to any religion in the world. No one can prevent that. So are we going to see the Muslims of the world riot and kill people every damn time one of these pieces of stupidity and bigotry come on You Tube? *face palm* Imams had better get busy in every mosque and start preaching maturity of faith and tolerance - because this world is not making it if we allow the idiots on all sides to control our world so easily this way.

The idiots of the world have already taken control of the Republican party. What we must do is prevent them from taking control of the country.

Great post, Katheryn and so true. I find it so interesting that the post their crap citing "freedom of speech" but when someone dies and riots take place because of their garbage, they run and hide.

The embassys must remain open and must be defended by US troops not local police. Only when a country is at war with the United States should embassys be closed. It is in the US interest to continue to try to aid in peacekeeping in all countries and an open embassy is a foothold.

I don't believe that the people we see in news footage in the streets of Cairo and other middle eastern places have viewed any kooky film made in America. It is highly likely, in my view, that the violence of the past 3 days is simply 911 resurgence, planned for some time to correspond to the anniversary of the attack on September 11, 2001 in New York.

I spent a year serving Uncle Sam in a Muslim country. I found the people warm and friendly. These weren't Arabs and we waren't tramping on their "sacred land", then either. Other Islamic countries aren't rioting so why is it that people seem to think all of Islam is crazy and easilly insulted? A hand full of crazies with nothing more to lose are the ones causing trouble in the world. The Muslims I know are totally disgusted by what they see from that part of the world.

Some American bigot that calls himself a man of God sponsors some hate-filled video about people he's never met or who he knows nothing about stirs those crazies into despicable acts. I would blame the preacher for inciting those riots with his "free speech". If he had an ounce of sense he would know that such things have set them off before and that all he is doing is getting Americans killed by posting some stupid video.

Adler - I don't know what Muslim country you served in when you say "The Muslims I know are totally disgusted by what they see from that part of the world." I am going to assume, by that sentence, you are talking about Muslims here in the United States. If they are so disgusted why are they not having anti-protest rallies, why are they not standing up for the U.S.? When are thousands of demonstrators in 5+ Muslim countries considered a "hand full of crazies"?

Attacks, such as we saw in Libya and Egypt, against a Countries Embassy is considered an attack on the Country itself. Personally I doubt the hate-filled video was the main cause of the riots and attacks on our Embassies, Egypt maybe but not Libya, further these attacks in Yemen, Libya, Egypt, Tunisia and a few others are well coordinated by anti-American groups, most likely Al Quaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood.

...Oh...my mistake.

I thought the title of the article was:
Obama:Mentally Challenged.

...those who are truly mentally challenged (my own daughter is ADD) we all can praise for their achievements and their potentials to be able to do anything.

That being said, we know they cannot be POTUS...

...though Biden make a good case for VPOTUS...

When I speak to people, I use language they understand. Since you respond to insults, I would be correct to assume you are ignorant (that, and your actual comment). I could have started with "Parlez vous francais?", but that would have been doubtful. Go bark up another tree, neanderthal.

Of course, I could see right through the BS right there. So your job is packet sniffer? I know you are sniffing something, but I'm pretty sure its not packets. You must not have very much business considering the software can be installed on any server starting at $50 and they won't have to deal with someone like you.

BTW - Your daughter is not mentally challenged because she is ADD - it is coming to light that some of the greatest leaders and thinkers have been ADD. Her challenge is just in channelling and focusing her (I'm assuming) wondrous intellect. And yes - those with ADD would make a great President.

That said,Obama is neither mentally challenged nor is he unfocused. His ability to focus on the central issue has been stated as one of his strengths.

What I can't figure out is why there was no escalation in the terrorist threat level on 9/11. I mean really? Maybe our President should have attended at least half of his briefings...starting with the war on terror and ending with his economic advisers.

Could it be because those weren't terrorists? Maybe random acts of violence can't be predicted. Should we be like Bushville and want people afraid of their own shadows?

Adler, where have you been? It started as a protest and the protest just created enough cover for the rest of the terrorist plot to commit the actual violence.

To state, “I called him [President Obama] to ask him to put an end to such behavior,” President Morsi himself must not understand our freedom of speech.
Let's try again: Our Constitution forbids the government from stopping its citizens from making offensive films. And since the government cannot stop them, it also cannot be held responsible for any offense those films cause.
Arab leaders need to understand this point and explain it to their citizens.
Thus far there has been no effort to do so -- not even from the Arab press.
Nonetheless, it's a point that needs to be clarified if we are to move forward with democracy.

                taking questions ? excellent

                Mr president in your statement

President Obama As he admitted in his interview with Telemundo last night, Egypt right now isn’t an ally and it isn’t an enemy. ??????????????????

Given the fact, that we have GIVEN them over 50 billion in US tax payer dollars since the end of ww2,.....and 2 billion Just since the over throw of their govt during the "so named" Arab spring

What exactly does this statement mean Mr President ????

                Mr president

Where were the united states marines security details deployed? other than at our embassies and consulates on day of 9.11.2012 ???? (question marks ind.4 more Americans needlessly killed)

                Mr president

Why is it that security at our sovereign points around the Globe was not increased on the anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 9.11.2001 ?

Mr president Mr president Mr president

Mr president this statement was sent out by the U.S. Embassy, Cairo, 2012:...

I might add a extended entity of Us administration under Your responsibly as commander & chief...

                U.S. Embassy Condemns Religious Incitement

The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims — as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others.

Given the nature of this statement particularly in regards to hurting the religious feelings of Muslims.

and emphasis your administration has given that policy in the past 3 & a half years. can you explain why there were so much referencing to, the killing of Osama Bin ladden during the Democratic National Convention in fact, the point was chided with great fanfare 21 times over the convention and does this type of, to use your words "spiking the football" offend Muslims world wide Sir????

Mr president, Mr president, Mr president,

                Mr president;

Do these Actions in the middle east,,,, Egypt & Libya constitute acts of war

or merely man made disasters ????

Mr president, Mr president, Mr president,

                Mr president;

Will security be increased at other US embassies and, if so, how soon will that happen ????

Mr president Mr president, Mr president, Mr president,

                Mr president;

So, given this is an election year and given the fact you have missed many countless intelligence briefings, could it be plausible to suggest that Electioneering, fundraising & campaigning for your incumbency has possibly put National Security in the back seat or kicked it out of contention with your attention
                completely????

These and many, many other Questions should be asked of Barack Hussein Obama....

IS he the President or the Campaign politician of 2008????

In any Case he needs to be replaced.

FYI: starting a war in the middle east will not get him re-elected

BTW Gov, Romney was Very Presidential indeed....regarding his statement about the Egypt & Libya situation...
