Ryan to begin airing TV ads for congressional re-election

MILWAUKEE -- Republican vice-presidential nominee Paul Ryan will begin airing television ads for his congressional re-election race in Wisconsin beginning Wednesday.

The news was first reported by the Associated Press.

"Congressman Ryan is on the ballot twice in the 1st Congressional District for both the House and the vice presidency, so Ryan for Congress is running ads locally in Milwaukee and Madison media markets," Kevin Seifert, Ryan's congressional re-election spokesman, told NBC News.

Wisconsin law permits candidates who are running for either president or vice president to also have their name on the ballot for another election. The theory -- if the candidate doesn't win their race for the White House -- is he or she can still hold on to the previous job in Congress.

Both the Romney team and Ryan's House re-election campaign have pushed back on any suggestion that Ryan might be hedging his bets against a possible loss in November's presidential contest, and they noted previous VP nominees have done this in the past.

"We made clear from day one he'd remain on the congressional ballot, as Wisconsin law allows," Brendan Buck, the GOP VP nominee's spokesman, said in an email. "Joe Biden and Joe Lieberman both ran for re-election in the Senate concurrently with their VP runs."

Ryan filmed several congressional re-election ads in Wisconsin the week leading up to Romney tapping him as his VP -- one day before Ryan's trip to Massachusetts to meet with Romney personally and two days after.

Among other locations, the ad sites included a home construction site, a clinic, and a space management facility. Ryan's family -- his wife and three children -- joined him in one ad outside of a residential home in their hometown.

The seven-term Wisconsin Congressman used Wilson Grand Communications -- a firm from Northern Virginia -- to shoot the ads over an intense three-day period.

But Ryan is not in a competitive race in the Badger State. He is ahead of his opponent in Wisconsin's 1st District -- Rob Zerban, a former county official -- by nearly a 25%margin according to a poll of 400 likely voters that was conducted by Public Opinion Strategies (R) Sept. 9-10. (Public Opinion Strategies co-conducts the NBC/WSJ poll.)

While Ryan's ads have allowed critics to charge that he might be hedging his bets against a possible Romney loss, the airtime could also potentially help the Romney ticket in the battleground state of Wisconsin.

Indeed, voters in the Madison and Milwaukee markets will begin seeing not only Ryan's re-election ads this week, but also the Romney campaign ads -- as the former Massachusetts governor's campaign made its first ad buy of the general election in Wisconsin.

It’s good to have a backup plan.

It might be difficult to swallow 2 losses in one day.

Exactly Dennis.

But in the case of Ryan, it looks like the people of WI will have to decide if they want him out of politics at least for a while.

Obama/Biden will win the election and that would leave Ryan running for his post in WI. It will be up to the people of the great state of WI to decide if they've had enough of the liar.

From the article: "Republican vice-presidential nominee Paul Ryan will begin airing television ads for his congressional re-election race in Wisconsin beginning Wednesday."

It appears Ryan is working hard on Plan B. It may, in fact, be Plan A, if he's being honest with himself.

Indeed Ryan is hedging his bet on "MYTH" Romney losing. However, no matter how much Ryan is ahead in his competitive race in the Badger State; I think that the road to electing the both Ryan and MYTH Romney whose affinity for being the most disingenuous, dishonest, untrustworthy, pathologically lying, flip flopping candidates is a question the people of Wisconsin must ask themselves about the right wing, greedy, hate machine.

Paul Ryan built the deficient yet he pathologically lies about his budget plans.

Grew up Protestant in North Carolina. I used to get soooo disgusted listening to the people putting others down for what they were wearing, etc. The final straw was when my divorced sister and her fiance - also divorced - wanted my parents pastor to marry them. He said he usually doesn't marry divorced people because he doesn't believe in divorce.

I asked him if he had people in the church who were on their 2nd marriages and he said "yes, but I didn't do the ceremony." And, I said but you do take their money every Sunday, right? My father turned red and so did the pastor. He performed the ceremony.

I go to church when it's empty - a better sense of why I want to be there!

bayllie - I'm always amazed at the hypocrisy. This same pastor was asked what he would do if blacks were to attend the church. (Clearly a very white church). He said he would preach such hell fire they'd never come back. I was absolutely repulsed.

When I would go back to visit my parents he would often stop by the house. Once he asked me why I never visited church with them and I told him precisely why - both the marriage stupidity and the horrible statement about blacks.

I will give him credit - he admitted he was less of a pastor than he should have been and that my saying something made him rethink things he had said and done. I told him I was sure he had already turned a lot of open minded people against his church and religion as a whole.

It's amazing the hypocrisy.

Republican Paul Ryan voted against 9/11 First Responders Healthcare Bill many, many times in 2010.

In 2010, New York City Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D), sponsored The James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010, which provided medical monitoring to those exposed to toxins at Ground Zero, bolstered treatment at specialized centers for those afflicted by toxins on 9/11 and reopened a compensation fund to provide economic loss to New Yorkers.

Financing: because Republicans pretend to care about the Deficit, Democrats made sure that every penny of the 9/11 Health and Compensation Act was paid for by closing a Tax Loophole on Foreign Corporations.

But that just outraged House Republicans, because Tax Increases, even on Foreign Companies, even to benefit 9/11 First Responders, are always evil. July 28, 2010 Politico Reported

Republicans did not, and do not care about providing anything for the 9/11 responders, or our troops, unless they can see some personal financial gain.

The Bill was signed by President Obama during the lame duck session that year.

Ryan is a selfish loser who says he has foreigh policy experience because he voted for the war!....

Concern - you bash people on a post that has NOTHING to do with 9/11. You bring your putdowns on yourself.

The pendulum you speak of will lop off the heads of Romney and Ryan!

thetotas - she is usually spouting putdowns right and left. That is the only reason I put her down.

Joe , Ryan is a multi- millionaire

Paul Ryan's net worth has increased 75 percent in past decade

Excluding the inheritance, Ryan's net worth increased by up to 130 percent in a decade marked by a deep recession and a volatile stock market.

However, like most Democratic VP's and Presidents, he will probably find another way to serve our country after being Vice President.

An interesting question...but I couldn't find the answer.

The 1st Wisconsin district, however, does have a strong history of running Red...the exception being Les Aspin who served from 1971-1993 before resigning when he was nominated for Secretary of Defense in the Clinton Administration. Other than that, it's a couple of years here and there for a Democrat (Gerald Flynn, Lynn Stalbaum, Peter Barca) amidst a long run of Republicans starting way back in 1893.

Other Demographics, however, may point to why Ryan is re-elected...

Ethnicity: 90.1% White, 5.7% Hispanic, 4.7% Black, 1% Asian, 0.3% Native American, 0.3% Other

Median Income: $50,372 (compared to Median Income for the US of $44,389)

Occupation: White Collar 57.7%, Blue Collar 27.4%, Gray Collar 14.9%

Golly gee, Guber, how did that girl get pregnant. The GOPTP simply have no understanding of cause-effect - a discharge on their part seems electrifying, that is until they have to pay for the consequences. Not a particularly bright lot, but they sure are good at breeding stupidity.

This is a none story except for first read to throw something out for their left wingers to talk about. It's not uncommon to run for VP and a Congressional seat at the same time, as pointed out in the article.

More important would be the fact that President Obama has REFUSED to meet with PM Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel. Excuse being scheduling conflict, can't be meeting with a leader from one of our strongest allies, especially in the Middle East because it might mean changing a fund raiser or a campaign speech. We all know President Obama does not like PM Netanyahu and I believe Obama is afraid of again being lectured to just prior to an election.

Forgot to mention something that the left wingers are spouting that the school teachers strike is a local matter and the President should not be getting involved. Isn't Obama a resident of Chicago and doesn't he pay taxes in Chicago which funds the schools including teachers pay and benefits? Shouldn't Obama be concerned about the children of his neighbors?

BTW, Obama keeps saying that the Republicans are against teachers, firefighters and police because they won't agree to Federal money to pay for them throughout the United States. Isn't the hiring of police, firefighters and teachers the responsibility of the local communities and states? States and communities can raise taxes if they want to pay for more police, firefighters and teachers.

I think the Democrats have to be very careful. I remember the election of 2010 where we were told the Republican party was dead and would never make a comeback. They, with the help of a right wing media machine came back with a vengeance and broke the spirit of the Dems who did not come out to vote as they usually do. I see this as part of a strategy that will be aided by the likes of Mr. Joe Scarborough who will cheer "this amazing comeback" as he tries to beat the President. We must watch these guys and stifle their pathetic attempts at king making. We must remain vigilant. Their tactics must fail.

Well spoken, but there is one big difference between then and now.

Today the folks like Joe Scarborough and Laura Ingraham are expressing doubts about their Nominee.

Their hero, Ronald Reagan, said "Do no harm to a fellow Republican."

Hell, Reagan wouldn't pass the modern-day Republican Party's so-called "Purity Test".

Bali and Tnut - the revelations today about the Bush administration's advance warnings about an attack on American soil may hit the Republicans pretty hard. It's going to be interesting - to say the least.

If it appears - and it does - that they ignored evidence and allowed the hit, things for the GOP could go south quickly!

I remember the election of 2010 where we were told the Republican party was dead and would never make a comeback.

That was not unusual. The same thing happened in 1994 with Snewt Gringrich claiming total victory and that they (meaning a Republican House majority) were setting the agenda and not Clinton. We all know how that turned out in 1996 when Bob Dole got his rump handed to him. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying this is in the bag, but history has a way of repeating itself. And besides the party that often loses the previous presidential bid often wins in the next mid terms because of low voter turnout by the other party. I'm confident we will win, but we still need every voter to turn out and cast their ballot.

Absolutely!!!! And kudos to you dragon for your volunteer work. I suggest we all spread the word where we can. Don't let these hateful vile pukes have one second to celebrate. We will all enjoy watching Romney's concession speech on Election Night.

The more I read the funnier it gets, now that's entertainment. If the republicans hold their breath long enough...won't they all turn blue?

Voice - that was funny. Talk about a party painted into a corner. They need a primary colors lesson. From Mormon storybook lore, the primary colors are one-two-three, red-yellow and blue.

Rob Portman told CNN's Erin Burnett tonight that the 20% across the board tax cuts promised by Mitt Romney does not mean EVERYBODY gets a 20% tax cut.

He did not elaborate despite cross questioning from Burnett. See the interview on CNN Out Front.

Say What - what is even more bothersome is that anyone actually BELIEVED he would cut taxes 20% for anyone but the top 1%. How gullible are Republicans???

(Notice I was nice and said gullible instead of ridiculously stupid)!!!

This does not pertain to the discussion, but I wanted to relay an observation I had over the past weekend. We went to the Beavercreek, Ohio Popcorn Festival with some friends on Saturday. There was a tent occupied by the Greene County Tea Party. Besides some local political candidates pamphlets and Josh Mandel for Senate yard signs, they had stickers and paper fans (the kind used in churches on wooden sticks) that had "Defend Freedom, Defeat Obama" printed on them. They were bright orange. Rather hard to miss. However, the important point was that they had NO paraphernalia at all for the GOP's candidates for President and Vice President of the United States! Nothing for Romney/Ryan, just defeat Obama. They are pathetic!

Thanks HolyH for sharing. This has been their platform all along. Notice, all they ever post is ABO - anybody but Obama. They never say Romney/Ryan.

I keep hearing "Devout Catholic" with respect to Ryan. But Ryan has stated that his philosophies are formed by his reading of Atlas Shrugged. If there's a book more unlike the teachings of Jesus in dealing with others I'd be curious to know of it. Which is it Ryan .... the Christ you supposedly proclaim or the Ayn Rand you adore?

Obama is a Christian? What would you offer as proof of that? I'm not calling him anything, but I think it's a bit rash to call someone a Christian after some of the things Obama has said and done. Most Christians wouldn't have a statue of Jesus covered up before a public speaking event. Most Christians wouldn't quote the Koran and call it 'holy.' Most Christians don't speak enthusiastically of the Muslim faith they were introduced to on three separate continents. And most Christians don't call the Muslim call to prayer the most beautiful sound they've ever heard.

Say What, you'll note I never said he wasn't a Christian, although one would have to wonder the impact of the Islamic schools in Indonesia on his personality. But regarding Christianity, the hon Rev Wright was a Christian preacher, right?

I personally find Obama's 20 years in that church even more important than Ryan's Catholicism or Romney's Mormonism. That's only fair in light of the question raised, isn't that correct?

      CubsFan and commonamerican....

....I am believing you are a Christian, perhaps not.

Jesus taught us "Judge not lest ye be judged" came from the King James Version of the Bible, and is quoted from The Book of Matthew, chapter 7 verse 1. It came from Jesus' teaching in the New Testament, when he was giving his followers practical advice for how they should live their lives

Where did Jesus give YOU the authority to question the President's faith? And really, what business is it of yours.

Romney proclaimed his Mormonism. Mormons teach that the angel Moroni came to Missouri and gave Joseph Smith golden tablets and Joseph communed directly with Jehovah. Mormons are taught faithfullness to the Church first...Romney learned that well....dodged the draft to avoid Vietnam, choosing Church over country. Is it not fair to think that in time of crisis he will turn to the current Prophet for direction? After all, the Mormon church by their teachings is the ONLY true church.

      commonamerican1,

I don't suppose killing Bin laden would mean much to you. But, it does to the rest of Americans who know our President is not anti-Muslim; rather anti-terrorist. More Americans polled think it is our CiC, President Barack Obama, who will keep us safe. Considering how "MYTH" tripped up on his overseas trip and has insulted Russia and made no mention the war in Afghanistan or recognize America’s troops in his convention speech he is not qualified to be dog catcher. Neither has "MYTH" given any policy statements on how he would deal with the war in Afghanistan.

Furthermore, although he is not so what if the President is Muslim.

Cabsfun is such an uncertain little @!$%#e, he can't defend Ryan and his proclamations of adoring an atheist with Ryan's devout Catholic statement without deflecting to Obama. Ryan is the one claiming Rand-ism is the new social norm. Ryan claims Rand is the true profit (prophet). Ryan claims Rand built his belief system.

Come on Cubsfan, surely you can debate Ryan without bringing Obama into the foreplay. Obama never claimed Rand, the socialist sucking 'loves her government handouts' as his disciple. Let's talk about the equally hating socialist sucking 'loves his government handouts' Ryan. The weakness of the Right to defend their spineless candidates is appalling. Come on Cubsfan, defend your candidate. Surely, being a sports aficionado and all, that is something you are well equipped to blather through.

Will we ever hear from Cubsfan - not. He is as weak-willed as his party. A gossip bitch to be sure, but not a bone in his body to stand on.

Well, you certainly voice your opinion with a good dose of vitriol and insults, but there are actually some prominent Democrats of the past who disagree with you whole-heartedly.

Do you know what Lyndon Johnson did in 1960 when JFK tapped him for his running mate? He checked to see if he could still run for his Texas Senate seat. He couldn't. Was that a problem? Nope. He just changed the rules. He instituted a rule identical to the WI rule that allowed him to run for Senate and VP.

Good enough for a Democratic figurehead, but not good enough for a Republican? Why not, pray tell?

Republicans are the kind of people who will rape you, force you to have the baby,
and then call you lazy when you ask for child support.

While some (but not all) Republicans do believe that babies conceived during rape (a very rare event) should be allowed to live, it's difficult to see how you deduce from that the political affiliation of the rapist himself.

So...what was the reaction of the DNC when the Cardinal gave the closing prayer, and prayed for the sanctity of the living but yet unborn?

How did that go over with you uber left?

        #22.2 - Tue Sep 11, 2012 10:02 PM EDT

You notice the Cardinal did not mention "legitimate rape" as the Republicans support?

He did not dictate policy on a woman's body as Romney wants to do.

        Feel better, hater?

Now, suddenly Mitt's "20% across the board tax cuts" do not mean that EVERYBODY gets a 20% tax cut. That from Rob Portman, standing in for Obama as Mitt practices his flip-flopping for the debates....

Never, ever let a good flip-flop interfere with the taking of stands on an issue.
