Romney camp: 'Don't get too worked up about the latest polling'

Responding to the early polling showing President Obama with a bounce -- and lead -- after the two conventions, Romney pollster Neil Newhouse argues in a memo to reporters that the presidential contest "has not changed significantly."

"Don't get too worked up about the latest polling," Newhouse writes in the memo. "While some voters will feel a bit of a sugar-high from the conventions, the basic structure of the race has not changed significantly. The reality of the Obama economy will reassert itself as the ultimate downfall of the Obama presidency, and Mitt Romney will win this race."

Related: First Thoughts: After Tampa and Charlotte

Newhouse adds, "The key numbers in this election are the 43 straight months of 8% or higher unemployment, the 23 million Americans struggling to find work, and the 47 million Americans who are on food stamps."

However, as we wrote in First Thoughts this morning, Obama went into the conventions with the lead, and emerged from those conventions with the lead.

And as Politico reported over the weekend, “The Romney campaign … said the post-convention bounce they hoped for fell well short of expectations and privately lament that state-by-state polling numbers — most glaringly in Ohio — are working in the president’s favor.”

“Their map has many more routes to victory,” a top GOP official admitted to Politico.

If this headline doesn't perfectly depict the GOP philosophy, I don't know what does:

Ignore reality, believe in only what your side believes in, and all is well!

Problem for them is that isn't the way it works in real life.

It is starting to happen already....conservatives are already starting to talk that the Romney loss was because he was such a flawed candidate. What a bunch of dimbulbs....and the worst kind, arrogant dimbulbs.

Mychal Massie is a respected writer and talk show host in Los Angeles.

The other evening on my twitter, a person asked me why I didn't like the Obama's? Specifically I was asked: "I have to ask, why do you hate the Obama's? It seems personal, not policy related. You even dissed (disrespect) their Christmas family picture."

The truth is I do not like the Obamas, what they represent, their ideology, and I certainly do not like his policies and legislation. I've made no secret of my contempt for the Obamas. As I responded to the person who asked me the aforementioned question, I don't like them because they are committed to the fundamental change of my/our country into what can only be regarded as a Communist state.

I don't hate them per definition, but I condemn them because they are the worst kind of racialists, they are elitist Leninists with contempt for traditional America. They display disrespect for the sanctity of the office he holds, and for those who are willing to admit same, Michelle Obama's raw contempt for white America is transpicuous.

I don't like them because they comport themselves as emperor and empress. I expect, no I demand respect, for the Office of President and a love of our country and her citizenry from the leader entrusted with the governance of same. President and Mrs. Reagan displayed an unparalleled love for the country and her people. The Reagan's made Americans feel good about themselves and about what we could accomplish. Obama's arrogance by appointing 32 leftist czars and constantly bypassing congress is impeachable. Eric Holder is probably the MOST incompetent and arrogant DOJ head to ever hold the job. Could you envision President Reagan instructing his Justice Department to act like jack-booted thugs?

Presidents are politicians and all politicians are known and pretty much expected to manipulate the truth, if not outright lie, but even using that low standard, the Obama's have taken lies, dishonesty, deceit, mendacity, subterfuge and obfuscation to new depths. They are verbally abusive to the citizenry, and they display an animus for civility.

I do not like them, because they both display bigotry overtly, as in the case of Harvard Professor Louis Gates, when he accused the Cambridge Police of acting stupidly, and her code speak pursuant to now being able to be proud of America. I view that statement and that mindset as an insult to those who died to provide a country where a Kenyan, his illegal alien relatives, and his alleged progeny, could come and not only live freely, but rise to the highest, most powerful, position in the world. Michelle Obama is free to hate and disparage whites because Americans of every description paid with their blood to ensure her right to do same.

I have a saying, that "the only reason a person hides things, is because they have something to hide." No president in history has spent millions of dollars to keep his records and his past sealed. And what the two of them have shared has been proved to be lies.

Obama lied about when and how they met, he lied about his mother's death and problems with insurance.

Michelle lied to a crowd pursuant to nearly $500,000 bank stocks they inherited from his family.

Obama lied about his father's military service, about the civil rights movement, ad nausea.

He lied to the world about the Supreme Court in a State of the Union address.

He berated and publicly insulted a sitting Congressman.

He has surrounded himself with the most rabidly, radical, socialist academicians today.

He opposed rulings that protected women and children that even Planned Parenthood did not seek to support.

He is openly hostile to business and aggressively hostile to Israel. Michelle treats being the First Lady as her personal American Express Black Card (arguably the most prestigious credit card in the world).

I condemn them because, as people are suffering, losing their homes, their jobs, their retirements, he and his family are arrogantly showing off their life of entitlement - as he goes about creating and fomenting class warfare.

I don't like them, and I neither apologize nor retreat from my public condemnation of them and of his policies.

We must condemn them for the disrespect they show our people, for his willful and unconstitutional actions pursuant to obeying the Constitutional limits he is bound by, and his willful disregard for Congressional authority.

Dislike for them has nothing to do with the color of their skin; it has everything to do with their behavior, attitudes, and policies.

I have openly scorned their constantly playing of the race card. It is my intention to do all within my ability to ensure their reign is one term. I could go on, but let me conclude with this. I condemn in the strongest possible terms the media for refusing to investigate them, as they did President Bush and President Clinton, and for refusing to label them for what they truly are. There is no scenario known to man, whereby a white president and his wife could ignore laws, flaunt their position, and lord over the people, as these two are permitted out of fear for their color.

As I wrote in a syndicated column titled, "Nero In The White House" - "Never in my life, inside or outside of politics, have I witnessed such dishonesty in a political leader. He is the most mendacious political figure I have ever witnessed. Even by the low standards of his presidential predecessors, his narcissistic, contumacious arrogance is unequalled. Using Obama as the bar, Nero would have to be elevated to sainthood... Many in America wanted to be proud when the first person of color was elected president, but instead, they have been witness to a congenital liar, a woman who has been ashamed of America her entire life, failed policies, intimidation, and a commonality hitherto not witnessed in political leaders. He and his wife view their life at our expense as an entitlement - while America's people go homeless, hungry and unemployed."

Mitt-da-Twit ... flip flopper believes the following (LDS).... u seriously think he's a candidate for the presidency of USA ... seriously now ... or do u reside in kolob .... lol

Mormonism includes many other unusual teachings which you will probably not be told about until you have been in the church for a long time. These teachings are not revealed to investigators or new converts because those people are not yet considered ready to have more than "milk" as doctrine. The Mormons also probably realize that if investigators knew of these unusual teachings they would not join the church. In addition to those mentioned elsewhere in this article, the following are noteworthy:

      • God was once a man like us.
      • God has a tangible body of flesh and bone.
      • God lives on a planet near the star Kolob.
      • God ("Heavenly Father") has at least one wife, our "Mother in Heaven," but she is so holy that we are not to discuss her nor pray to her.
      • Jesus was married.
      • We can become like God and rule over our own universe.
      • There are many gods, ruling over their own worlds.
      • Jesus and Satan ("Lucifer") are brothers, and they are our brothers - we are all spirit children of Heavenly Father
      • Jesus Christ was conceived by God the Father by having sex with Mary, who was temporarily his wife.
      • We should not pray to Jesus, nor try to feel a personal relationship with him.
      • The "Lord" ("Jehovah") in the Old Testament is the being named Jesus in the New Testament, but different from "God the Father" ("Elohim").
      • In the highest degree of the celestial kingdom some men will have more than one wife.
      • Before coming to this earth we lived as spirits in a "pre-existence", during which we were tested; our position in this life (whether born to Mormons or savages, or in America or Africa) is our reward or punishment for our obedience in that life.
      • Dark skin is a curse from God, the result of our sin, or the sin of our ancestors. If sufficiently righteous, a dark-skinned person will become light-skinned.
      • The Garden of Eden was in Missouri. All humanity before the Great Flood lived in the western hemisphere. The Ark transported Noah and the other survivors to the eastern hemisphere.
      • Not only will human beings be resurrected to eternal life, but also all animals - everything that has ever lived on earth - will be resurrected and dwell in heaven.
      • Christ will not return to earth in any year that has seen a rainbow.
      • Mormons should avoid traveling on water, since Satan rules the waters.
      • The sun receives its light from the star Kolob.
      • If a Gentile becomes Mormon, the Holy Ghost actually purges his Gentile blood and replaces it with Israelite blood.
      • A righteous Mormon will actually see the face of God in the Mormon temple.
      • You can identify a false angel by the color of his hair, or by offering to shake his hand.

The correctness of your comment is based on what you're talking about, Irene. I recall the stock market was at 6,300 when Obama took office ... its OVER 13,000 now.

If you're specifically talking about unemployment, when Obama took office they were losing HUNDREDS of thousands of jobs ... now, even though it is growing slow, Obama has the employment growing again. Imagine how the jobs market would be IF the Congressional HOUSE were supporting Obama instead of trying to make him fail at ALL COST. Remember, it was Mitch McConnell that said it was Republicans NUMBER ONE goal ... to make Obama a 1-term president. And they just about crashed our economy, and actually downgraded our credit rating trying to make him fail. Yet the ReThugs raised the debt ceiling for President Bush 7 times ... and Cheney said "deficits don't matter" ... yeah, right!

irene ... the Republican Party of OLD no longer exists. Its gone .... owned by Corporations and billionaires willing to spend billions of dollars to keep from paying their FAIR SHARES ... welfare starts with the wealthiest. GE, in 2010, earned over $5.1 billion in American profit yet claimed a federal income tax benefit of over $3.2 billion. Paying their fair share ... I think NOT!

Well I don't know about you Irene, but in my view when the stock market was around 8-9,000 in 2008 and it's now about 13,300 today, that is better. It's better for individuals and pension plans. I know there are a whole lot of people out of jobs and I feel that's improving. I know there are quite a number of people who lost homes - I feel badly for them. Thing will improve! But not under Romoney & Lyin Ryan.

My reason for not likeing Obama is he hasn't done what he promised and i feel like he isn't going to do anything for us. When he gives his speeches he doesn't sound like a president. I don't trust him and he might be a good guy but i feel he isn't for AMERICA and her People.

I can see your frustration and sense that you're a common die heart republican...hell bent on regurgitating GOP talking points. If the Republican party had planned ahead and groomed someone sensible to run against Obama, then more people might take notice. But when Mitt doesn't say anything, he has no real plan, and he's either afraid to tell the people his ideas or doesn't HAVE any true ideas.....then the large majority of Americans aren't going to take Mitt seriously. As they say....third time's a charm; maybe he'll get lucky in 2016.

I would love to see someone (preferably a republican) rattle off 3 or 5 details of Mitt's economic plan. And not the same old 'Blame Obama' crap....I mean which loophole's he'd close, or who exactly will be taxed more. How does he expect to increase defense spending, while lowering taxes? Which programs exactly, will he cut. But no one can answer those questions for Mitt....because MITT HIMSELF cannot answer them.

difference is between most of the Obama supporters, and Romney

supporters, instead of stammering, and stuttering, and looking for an

answer, just tell them that the Romney supporters sign their checks on

the front, and the Obama supporters sign their checks on the back.

Warren Buffett, in a recent interview with CNBC,
offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling ...
"I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC.
"You just pass a law that says that any time there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP,

all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election."
The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds)
took only 3 months and 8 days to be ratified! Why?

                Simple! The people demanded it.
That was in 1971 - before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc.
Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution,
seven (7) took one (1) year or less to become the law of the land
all because of public pressure. Warren Buffet is asking each addressee to forward this email
to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.
In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message.

This is one idea that really should be passed around.
                Congressional Reform Act of 2012
                1. No Tenure/No Pension
A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office.
                2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately.
All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.

It may not be used for any other purpose.
                3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.
                4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.
Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
                5. Congress loses their current health care system
and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

                6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.
                7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 12/1/12.
The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women.
Congress made all these contracts for themselves.
Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.
The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s),
then go home and back to work.

Romney acts like he is in full-panic mode, watching the election slip away from him.

HHmmmm....I think you're implying that he's falling further down, out of second place....in a two man race lol. You're totally right, he's in panic mode. But he's never gotten out of first gear and never was in the lead (except in a couple of Faux Snooze audience polls).

Oh well....maybe the third time will be the charm, Mitty lol

This, my friends, is what a convention bounce should look like. The GOP had their chance and it proved to be as empty as Eastwood's chair.

Ohio? Ohio? Are you joking? Rmoney thought he'd get Ohio? BWAHAHAHA. It's laughable, truly. After republicans fought tooth and nail against Obama in the auto industry bailout? Ohio jobs? Hello? Wow. Just wow.

Romney has no reason to be in panic mode, the economy is getting worse.

Any correction that we are seeing is in spite of Obama's no growth policies.

Moody's announced today that they will probably down grade our now Aaa rating and Fitch has also said they will probably do the same.

Real Clear politics poll released today has Obama 49% Romney 46% with Independents being the biggest block of undecideds. Independents fiercely hate the deficit. They are independent because they don't buy into the party platform crap on either side.

Obama did nothing but fire up his radical base,Romney is up 3 points since the DNC.

This Independent is voting for President Obama! I know cr@p when I hear it and R&R are full of it!

I don't know where you get your info but I just heard the opposite on CNN about the poll numbers (not that I believe totally in them).

Uh, kandibar... sounds like you're snortin' funny stuff thru a broken straw! Your "info" is dead wrong, and you know it!

Obama is leading Mittens by at least 5 points in every reputable poll, and you know it!

Mittens is on the downslide in all the reputable polls, and you're just pretending to be completely innocent/ignorant to those facts, and you know it!

Go get yourself some dignity. R & R ( Ridiculous & Retarded) are running a pathetic campaign, ever since that joke-fest in Tampa called a (snicker!) convention! And, you know it!

Know this: Obama/Biden will win in 2012! No doubt!!

As Joe Scarborough states Romney "is a flawed candidate." In addition, many others have echoed the same beliefs. If the Republicans do not like their candidate you cannot expect rest of the American people to like him. Romney/Ryan has no principles and they are too extreme radical for mainstream America.

                          Good posting, HD! And true!

It's no secret those evil republiturds & 'baggernuts do not like Mittens. They just simply hate Obama. On the best days of Mitten's lying life the neo-nuts will still despise him.

The "party 1st, America 2nd" crowd of Nazis will never, ever embrace the "severely conservative" comic-loon/offshore bank client, and weathervane man-- as one of their own.

Obama/Biden win in 2012! No doubt!!

uh, just double checked my numbers... Real Clear Politics as of today has 0bama 49% Romney 46% and Rassmussen daily presidential tracking poll for today show Obama at 48% Romney 45%

Also Rassmussen reports the Obama bounce begins to fade

A CNN poll conducted Sept. 4th also had Romney up by 10 points among Independents 52%-42%

Earth-to-kandikar... Today is NOT Sept 4. It's post convention time. The offshore bank client/tax-cheater-- is fading faster than Lyin' Ryan can tell another lie.

Uh, trouble46545... I remember tearing your BS stupidity a new butt-hole before. That's why your whine is trolling me? Alert: You're boring! Yaawwnn...!

Eight years of Bush driving the bus in the wrong direction...giving tax breaks to the wealthy while not PAYING for the two wars? So now Repugs REALLY expect Obama to have turned that bus around and taken the country back to the prosperous days of Bill Clinton...in just FOUR! That same bunch of Repugs who's only goal has been to make Obama look bad while hollering NO...and not even caring about the damage their doing to this country meanwhile! All the while wanting to continue those tax breaks for the wealthy while they cry about the economy! Now here they stand with an early loser in the last election...who can't talk about the plans he does NOT have, let alone show us his taxes...are YOU REPUGS serious? This was the best you could do? If your NOT really, seriously, embarrassed...I can only conclude that your both void of reason as well as INTEGRITY!
