Romney camp: 'Don't get too worked up about the latest polling'

Responding to the early polling showing President Obama with a bounce -- and lead -- after the two conventions, Romney pollster Neil Newhouse argues in a memo to reporters that the presidential contest "has not changed significantly."

"Don't get too worked up about the latest polling," Newhouse writes in the memo. "While some voters will feel a bit of a sugar-high from the conventions, the basic structure of the race has not changed significantly. The reality of the Obama economy will reassert itself as the ultimate downfall of the Obama presidency, and Mitt Romney will win this race."

Related: First Thoughts: After Tampa and Charlotte

Newhouse adds, "The key numbers in this election are the 43 straight months of 8% or higher unemployment, the 23 million Americans struggling to find work, and the 47 million Americans who are on food stamps."

However, as we wrote in First Thoughts this morning, Obama went into the conventions with the lead, and emerged from those conventions with the lead.

And as Politico reported over the weekend, “The Romney campaign … said the post-convention bounce they hoped for fell well short of expectations and privately lament that state-by-state polling numbers — most glaringly in Ohio — are working in the president’s favor.”

“Their map has many more routes to victory,” a top GOP official admitted to Politico.

The joker always gets trumped by the dark knight.

Romney is flipin on Obamneycare, taxes etc.

What is really comical is the days of the white trash yelling about communism is coming to an end. Prisons are full of home schooled people, I love seeing the fear as they desperately try to drum up votes for the Moron.

Hang tough Joker, we will get you a job and off the meth.

Yeah, don't get all worked up, Romney will just come up with another LIE to balance out the polls. What an egghead Romney is. Will he ever realize what a Village Idiot he really is??? You repugs can really pick a pair of winners to run for the white house, actually they qualify more for the outhouse. Romney and Ryan give up, your embarassing the hell out of the repugs and especially your families.

Barack Hussein Obama ll is not an American, but an Islamic socialist. Born from a Communist mother and socialist father. Raised in Indonesia by his step-father Lolo Soetoro, then later, sent to Hawaii to live with his Communist grandparents. There, Barry Soetoro (only 10 yrs. old) was mentored by a known Communist, Frank Marshall Davis and Barry’s grandparents, until he graduated from high school.

Barry entered Occidental College as Barry Soetoro, an exchange student from Indonesia. Two years later, he enrolled @ Columbia University where Obama networks with Marxist professors/followers, black radicals and Pakistani students.

After graduating from Harvard Law School, Obama meets Bill Ayers, known terrorist and co-founder of the Underground Weather. Obama is inspired by Ayers to run for public office and is supported by the “New Party”, an organization that was originally called the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

Barack Obama’s 20 yr. association with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright had left Obama with many political scars and enhanced Obama’s desire for social order in government.

Today, Barack Obama still claims his devotion to Islam, while mocking Christianity. President Barack Obama plans to cut military spending in half, eliminating 80% of our defense weapons, including nuclear weapons and make the US dependent of energy, especially from petroleum oil. The economy is sliding back into recession, with a good chance to hit rock bottom. If this happens, the free world, as we know it, will be devastated. It will be then when the Islamic nations take over, with the help of Russia, ending democracy.

There is a dark side of Barack Obama that separates his ideals from those who live and believe in “We the People………….”. Form your own opinion, if you like, but mine rests heavily on the future of our great nation.

      May God bless America.

The USA is the world's leading capitalist superpower, and I see Obama as being more capable of leading our nation in a forward direction. I feel like I'm being sucked into an 80's time warp every time I hear Romney speak. He is just recycling failed policies of the past...Dude, you can't run the White House like Bain Capital, and "corporations are not people, too"! I don't know anybody by the first name of Enron or BofA. His lack of understanding of other nations and cultures was quite obvious during his recent trip abroad where Romney insulted the British and the Palestinian people by making ignorant comments. His evasiveness about his taxes, reported savings in Swiss bank accounts, and investments in offshore tax havens feed into his natural desire to give America's wealthy additional tax breaks which makes him sooo far out of touch with middle-class Americans who have struggled during the recession.

President Obama and VP Biden genuinely care about middle-class families and that is evident by the landmark legislation he signed into law, namely The Recovery Act of 2009 and The Affordable Care Act of 2010. Obama then formally ended the Iraq War in 2011, after the death of bin Laden, and brought many of these middle-class men and women home. The President has progressive economic plans to revitalize the nation's economy, but he can't do it alone, Congress must compromise and do the right thing for the American people...Obama has done a lot good for America and he has my vote in November.

Romney is flopping like a fish at the bottom of a boat!

He tells a crowd we won't let in God we trust be taken off of American coins WTH? Yeah Romney, that has chance of ever happening, and I've been worried about that for years, right along with the Democrat's coming for our guns!

And he has doubled down on not speaking about the war in Afghanistan, and our brave military Men and Women. Instead of apologizing and saying it was a mistake, it was overlooked, he is too proud to admit, everyone makes mistakes and gaffs.

Ryan is lyin again on his vote on cutting defense spending. His voting record speaks for it self.

I don't think any sane American could have imagined where these right wing extremists would go with their lies and distortions as they were forced to concede to Obama after the 2008 election. I knew there was a lot of bigotry and hatred among them but I never could have imagined the enormous machine they would throw together in order to get THEIR way. And the bigots and zealots among us made it all so easy for them. Swallowing their ridiculous nonsense so easily.

Did anyone ever hear President Obama say he was going to "Take God's name out of our government"? Or did you actually hear him say, "I'm taking God's name off of our coins"?

Well Romney used this on his lemmings today and they roared with approval when he insinuated that Obama plans to do just that. But, never fear, HE, holier-than-thou, Robme, will protect them from having to live through such a nightmare!

President Obama is our President because THAT was the will of the people of this country! Unable to accept defeat and unwilling to give up on their dream to over throw our Democracy in favor of either a Theocracy with the usual corruption (think the Pope) or even better a Kleptocracy in which they would further stomp down the average American, these extremists went to plan B. What we have been dealing with and seeing since the day of our President's Inauguration. A disgusting barrage of straight up lies and fictitious stories about our President's tainted past.

I am no longer puzzled at their success in this endeavor. I am no longer disgusted. I am just very sad because many of my friends and family have fallen into line behind them.

These people are dangerous and and evil. And we should not ever underestimate them.

If you paid ant attention to what Mitt Romney does besides what CNN tells you, you would know that he addressed the Military on July24th, the first day of the GOP convention when he spoke at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Convention in Reno Nevada. it was carried by C-Span.

As for the bounce that Obama has right now from the convention, it is no different from the 49%-43% John Kerry had coming out of his convention in 04. It faded very quickly.

Romney received a 5% bump before the convention with the announcement of Paul Ryan as his VP pick, and expected little or no bounce due to the close proximity of the Dem. convention starting just 4 days later.

Another bit of bad news for the Obama administration, released today. The U.S. has dropped from 1st place in 2007-2008 on the global competitiveness index to 7th place in 2012

And from 3rd place to 10th on the index of economic freedom.

what it boils down to at the end of the day is 23 million Americans don't have a job.

16 trillion dollars in debt with no end in sight.

The down grade of America's AAA credit rating

          Thousands of homes in foreclosure

And a fiscal cliff waiting for us in January 2013

the record for filibusters is held by the 110th congress who in 2007 and 2008 the last 2 years of Bush's 2nd term filibustered 112 times Obama has had 91 filibusters in 2010. And 64 in the 2011-2012 term He had no filibusters in 2009 because the Dems held a filibuster proof majority

Bush was filibustered 276 times during his 8 years

And yes I'm sure Romney knows there is a war and he paid his respects to the troops at the VFW convention that he was a guest at

Main topic...the presidential race of course. So we debated back and forth about the two candidates and why we supported the one over the other. When it was my turn, I went to my lap top bag, pulled out my lap top, then played a video from Youtube that showed exactly how often Romney flip-flops on everything. Then after that was done, I pulled up Huffington Post and once again I showed the recent news clip from Meet the Press. My friends that were for Romney watched as he stated he was not going to "repeal" Obamacare, merely keep it and tweak it. The looks on their faces was priceless. I then said...see, this man lies and lies and lies, and that is who you think will make a good president - commander and chief.
