MILFORD, OH – Citing Mitt Romney's appearance on NBC's Meet the Press earlier in the day, Vice President Joe Biden took aim Sunday at Romney's failure to name specific tax loopholes he would close to lower taxes and balance the budget.
"He said that he's gonna pay for all these tax cuts by closing the loopholes, but when asked by Mr. Gregory what loopholes he'd close, he couldn't name one," Biden told a crowd of 700 supporters at a western Ohio high school.
"All this has a giant price tag and it's not going to come from closing loopholes for millionaires," he added.
On NBC, host David Gregory asked Romney to specify how he would eliminate tax deductions and exceptions in order to compensate for the enormous financial consequences of his deep tax cut proposals.
Romney responded only by noting that "people at the high end" would have fewer opportunities for tax exemptions, but he declined to pinpoint any specific numbers or policies.
“High income taxpayers are going to have fewer deductions and exemptions... Those numbers are going to come down. Otherwise, they'd get a tax break. And I want to make sure people understand, despite what the Democrats said at their convention. I am not reducing taxes on high income taxpayers. I'm bringing down the rate of taxation, but also bringing down deductions and exemptions at the high end so the revenues stay the same, the taxes people pay stay the same. Middle income people are going to get a break. But at the high end, the tax coming in stays the same. But we encourage small business, because small business is able to keep more of what it makes and therefore hire more people, which is my priority.”
The stop in Clermont County, a heavily-Republican area that supported John McCain by a 2-1 margin in 2008, was Biden's final campaign event of a two-day swing through Ohio. He will return to the Buckeye State next Wednesday to campaign in Dayton.

GOP candidates Vulture and Voucher would extend the Bush tax cuts, plus a NEW tax cut of $5 trilion for the very wealth = $10 Trillion on the deficit. To pay for it they would:
Take apart major government programs for ALL Americans.
eg. Privatize the national parks and make them for profit, get rid of Medicare, Medicaid, privatize Social Security, gut then privatize Education.
There would be no regulatory agencies, and RomneyRyan would deregulate Wall Street.

Very interesting article here about where we are in America in the 21st Century. Something the GOP is quite out of tune with -
Aside from drawing parallels, the election is nearly over because it is more demographically determined than past elections were. Demography increasingly trumps everything. The Democratic Party is more the coalition of African-Americans, Latinos, LGBT voters, and white liberals. The Republican Party is a contrastingly more homogenous construct that is predominantly male, predominantly religious, and very white. The increasing demographic determination of voting (illustrated by Nate Silver’s breakdown of how 2008 portended a shift toward Democratic Presidential voting among nonwhites, but not really among white voters) has made this election one that resists economic cyclicality. While President Obama’s approval rating among black and white voters alike fell from mid-2008 to mid-2012, it actually went up among Latino voters. President Obama’s likely vote share among Latinos remains at roughly two-thirds, right where it was in the near-landslide of 2008. Despite a modest decline in his approval ratings, President Obama’s likely vote-share among African-Americans remains in the middle-to-upper 90s, far above the roughly 90% of the black vote won by candidates Mondale, Clinton, and Gore.
This is the secret of Obama’s enduring lead: the white vote is elastic, but only so elastic. Obama’s overdrive among African-American voters, who are numerous in swing states (Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida), and potential swing states (Pennsylvania, Wisconsin), backed by his benefiting from the increasing alignment of Latino voters (and I would expect, LGBT-identified voters), means he can win with 39% or so of the white vote. It also means that it is almost impossible for Mitt Romney to win the popular vote by any meaningful margin. There just aren’t enough white votes for him to open up any kind of margin, which makes the selection of Ryan all the more tactically unsound. Senator Marco Rubio could have helped Romney bring the Latino vote closer to George W. Bush’s 43% share in 2004. Senator Kelly Ayotte could have helped Romney improve among all racial groups (including white voters) because more than half of all such voters are female. Picking a white male who appeals to his base was akin to running the ball on 3rd and nine. Post Charlotte, Romney is now 4th and seven (although Ryan claims to have gained twelve pounds on the carry).
Following President Clinton’s home run, President Obama’s own speech was a good one, but it was a speech to get you there. As many have noted, it listed accomplishments, acknowledged difficulty, and was more workmanlike in tone than the lofty rhetoric of 2008 – of necessity. A President in 2012 cannot soar, because we are not soaring. The speech needed to attack, defend, and move the ball down the field in small chunks. Being Obama, it either inspired you, you hated it and him, or you agreed with its goals generally. The reason it worked is because it was the capstone of a convention of others – Julian Castro, Lilly Ledbetter, Deval Patrick, Michelle Obama, and Bill Clinton. They formed a team that was so strong in message and voice, by example and word calling Democrats to enthusiastic support of the President, that his defense of his record and call to finish a difficult job was worth a five point lead in today’s Gallup poll.
What is becoming very clear is that the Republican Party simply has a far harder boundary at the 47% level in American politics than does the Democratic Party, and a far more difficult path to 50%. In 58 days, we will be considering what it means that the Democratic Party will have won five of six Presidential popular votes, and won in a bad economy this time. If President Obama presides over an economic recovery, the Democratic Party will likely have two widely beloved and personally admired two-term Presidents, opening a stature gap and a momentum gap against a party relying on a base that grows smaller demographically with each successive election. President Obama last week stood more than he did in 2008 on the shoulders of friends. In his lead and likely victory we see the seeds of an ascendant coalition, to which the party of Christie, Rubio, and Ryan has no long-term answer.

Now Romney claims it is the tax cut that is not a tax cut, he said I am going to cut taxes and loopholes but the money they pay will be the same. This guy always wants it both ways, I'm cutting taxes, but I am not cutting taxes. Here is what he said.

"I've been to Afghanistan and the members of our troops know of my commitment to Afghanistan and to the effort that's going on there. I have some differences on policy with the president. I happen to think those are more important than what word I mention in each speech."
As far as ryan is concerned, I can't find any thing on google either about his claim, please advise where ryan made that statement. Of course romney has never visited Afghanistan either.

GM is still open for business and just had a record breaking quarter. Osama Bin Laden is dead and Al Qaeda has suffered numerous losses of leadership.
The CBO projects 12 million new jobs and an unemployment rate below 6% within four years if the status quo is maintained. Production of natural gas and oil in the U.S. is at a 40 year high. The solar and wind energy fields have made great progress and we are now seeing fields being hooked up to the national grid.
While we have a long path ahead of us, America is recovering. Thirty straight months of new jobs growth. A booming stock market. Record breaking production of oil and natural gas.
Continuing to Claim that Obama has failed is simple ignorance. It was the deregulation of Wall Street and trickle down economics that led to two recessions under Bush and almost a depression.

Actually it is not something that they are just now using, they have been using it from the start. IMO: Even his running mate knows better as is evidenced in all of his budget plans over the last 3 years. Cutting that deep, that quick will result in job losses which, in turn, will result in revenue (tax) losses. Ryan's plan takes 28 years to get to a balanced budget and perhaps it can be done sooner, maybe 18 years – not 8.
What Romney doesn't account for is the historical fact that about every 10 years we encounter a recession. This is why Ryan's budget is more practicable with the main problem I have with his revenue plan it that it counts on unemployment falling to 3% which our country hasn't seen a sustained rate at that level in over 50 years and is well below all industrialized countries.
Except the "entrepreneurs" that donated to my campaign, especially the Koch Brothers and Adelson. They will have plenty of loopholes, or I will make sure that I CREATE OTHERs, only for them and their specefic needs.

Today I thought I did hear a specific from Mitt on his plans. He said he would help the middle class by eliminating all taxes on capital gains. I'm no economist, but this sounds like a recipe for disaster (but maybe that's because I don't have capital gains; the taxes I pay are taxes on my labor -- plus sales, property, fees, etc.). I think that if you eliminate all taxes on capital gains you just encourage the owners of companies that have a good year to take to take all of that money and stash it overseas. It seems it would be better to leave the capital gains tax alone (or even raise it), but make sure that there is 100% (or even 110%) deduction for all the monies that are reinvested here at home to expand the business. This way, it would pay for companies to hire more workers and the economy would benefit. Everyone would benefit, except maybe Queen Ann and Mitt.
Like I said, I'm not an economist, so if there are real economists who wish to disagree, go ahead, dish it out, I can take it.
Guess what - the deduction Mitt wants to take away is the home mortgage interest deduction.
But not for second homes. Or third homes.
Because anybody who buys one of those is a "job creator".

I suspect the Romney proposal will be essentially a "means test" for the mortgage interest deduction, with little or no change for the middle class, but limiting the deduction based on either the size of the loan interst and/or income.
At the other end of the scale, however, he could reduce or eliminate the earned income credit for the working poor. He has stated that he won't raise taxes on the middle class...but said nothing about the wealthy or the poor. For someone making, say. $350K/yr. (where the upper bracket begins), with a large mortgage, the deduction can mean a great deal...but less painful for the super rich.
I think his tax targets are going to be at the bottom and those between middle class and the super rich (e.g. over $1.0 million in annual income.
Please...no higher than an Assistant Secretary level. Maybe in Commerce.
However, I am afraid the loss of the Presidential race will lessen his desire to serve in government.

I have to respond to a letter that stated I didn't have any accomplishments by President Obama to tout ("Letter: It's easier to criticize when you ignore the facts," Sept. 5). Let's end that fairy tale right now.
First off, the president has provided health care to millions of Americans that the GOP and the health care industry detest, he has taken $716 billion in Medicare savings (not stolen, another GOP lie) to close the doughnut hole for seniors and reimburse families monies not dedicated to actual health care.
He created over 4 million jobs, 24 months of job growth, saved the auto industry along with the domino effects that comes with the industry, got us out of the biggest blunder in United States history, that being Iraq, has begun a sustained withdrawal from another tail-chasing adventure in Afghanistan, which both wars have now cost over 6,000 American lives, not including the maiming and mental injuries.
Upon entering office, President Obama inherited the worst financial scenario since the Great Depression and somehow brought it under control. He got rid of Don't Ask Don't Tell, has anyone heard any horror stories since it's redaction? Supported gay marriage, another issue the GOP detests (I thought they wanted government out of our lives?).
He sat by, rightly so, while the Republicans returned to assaulting women's rights, making fools of themselves. He did not sit by as those same GOP governors started their voter suppression acts, disguising them to prevent voter fraud, which was nothing more than a solution looking for a problem.
He has cut taxes for small businesses and moderate income families multiple times, which, as we know, is held hostage every year by Republicans, but cutting taxes on the wealthy is no problem for them, conveniently talking out of both sides.
I'm sure I may have missed a few, but, be reminded these accomplishments were done with a dysfunctional Congress and even worse, an obstructionist GOP party that only wants to regain power at the expense of the American people with lies and distortions. Can you imagine how many more deeds would have been seen had there been bipartisanship in Washington? Just think of the millions of Americans who could be working as we speak had Obama's jobs bill, passed in the Senate but got not even the courtesy of a vote in the House.
Along with the jobs comes tax revenue, lower unemployment and more self-satisfaction for people. So to put the theory of no sustained accomplishments to rest, here we are. At least President Obama details what he will do in a second term, but, the Republican tag team of Romney and Ryan do not have the common courtesy to explain their plans, only hollow rhetoric, which means that they are either knowingly hiding their plans to destroy middle-class America or they haven't a clue what they are up against.
In closing, before throwing someone under the bus, one should look at the oncoming traffic.

Obama inherited a cycle. This constant dimwittery passing as fact is as idiotic as it is uneducated.
Cycles have an up and down side. He has done little but to slow the recovery, and has overseen the worst recovery in our nations history. Every other recession has has about a 2 year life cycle. So what he has done has set a new record for joblessness.
We are now seeing 2 new food stamp recipients for every new job.
For the uneducated, that is not the definition of a recovery.
It is laughable that people criticize Romney, who has had a lifetime of success, while touting Obama, who has arguably proven his incompetence. Go listen to his campaign promises and statements from 2008.
He said he would turn this around in 3 years or it would be a 1 term proposition. You say well, the problem was bigger than he knew. Right. And anyone who understood economics at the national level would never have made this claim. He said let him spend an extra $800 billion, and in 3 years unemployment would drop to 5.7% - his fancy plans showed the trend line and the "success" he expected. None of this turned out to be true.
He is incompetent at being a President. Rather than figuring out HOW to work with Congress, he gave up years ago and has spent the majority of his term whining and complaining. Leaders don't do this. Narcissists do.
Could you imagine Roosevelt whining? Churchill? Thatcher? Clinton?
Bill Clinton figured out how to work with Newt, arguably one of the most acerbic politicians in modern history. Obama simply does not have the skills required to be successful as President.
Mitt may have faults, but he knows how to gain agreement with the opposing party, and he knows how to troubleshoot large scale economic problems. Obama knows neither.
Go ahead and re-elect him. You will see 4 more years of golf, blame, and whining, and maybe a collapse of our way of life.

As for leadership, Obama spent the first 18 months in office trying in good faith to work with Republicans. He sought their input on the PACA. He wasted time trying to work with them on a deficit reduction plan.

The GAO has released a study that claims if we keep the status quo, 12 million more new jobs will be created within the next 4 years with an unemployment rate below 6%. Seems the President is doing fine to me. I never expected him to fix 8 screwed up years in 4.
