Republican presidential candidate greets supporters Friday during a campaign rally in Orange City, Iowa.
ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- In his first rally since President Barack Obama accepted the Democratic nomination for president, Mitt Romney on Friday called Obama's speech in Charlotte, N.C., "extraordinarily disappointing" and castigated Obama for not proposing how to solve joblessness.
"I read that this morning, you perhaps got the chance to do that," Romney said of the speech, suggesting he didn't watch the event live on television Thursday night.
"But if you did, perhaps like me you found it extraordinary disappointing -- surprisingly disappointing," Romney continued, adding later, "I was surprised by his address because I expected him to confront the major challenges of the last four years, which is an economy which has not produced the jobs that the American people need."
Romney made the remarks to several thousand people inside a basketball gym at Northwestern College, a small Christian liberal arts school here in conservative northwest Iowa.
Campaign officials said 2,600 people were inside the gym, and another 800 to 1000 people were inside an overflow room, which Romney visited briefly afterward.
The event came on the same day the Labor Department released a sour jobs report showing employers added 96,000 jobs in August and that more than 350,000 people had stopped looking for work.
"It’s just simply unimaginable," Romney said of the numbers. "The president said that by this time we’d be at 5.4 percent unemployment. 5.4 percent. Instead, we’re at about 8 percent."
Romney said the difference accounts for 9 million people who could be working.
Earlier Friday, Romney called the report a "hangover" after the Democrats' "party" in Charlotte.
"This is a tough time for the middle class of America," Romney told reporters on a tarmac in Sioux City. "There's almost nothing the president has done in the past three and a half, four years that gives the American people confidence that he knows what he's doing when it comes to jobs and the economy."
Before Romney took the stage here in Orange City, campaign aides tossed to the crowd blue foam gloves designed to look like baseball mitts.
A scoreboard inside the gym had been programmed to list one team as "Mitt" and the other "Romney." Scores were listed as 11 and 6, a reference to the Nov. 6 general election.
Romney was introduced by two Iowa Republicans, Gov. Terry Branstad and Rep. Steve King, who represents the 5th district here and is running for re-election.
Making an apparent pitch for Romney's conservative credentials, King told the crowd that Obama "undermines" the values of northwest Iowa "day after day after day."
"Don't doubt this man's faith. Don't doubt his conviction," King said of Romney. "Do not doubt his patriotism or his faith, and his love for Jesus Christ, our savior."
Romney later urged the crowd inside the overflow room to re-elect King.
"I wanna make sure he's in Washington when I get there so we can do the things we're promising doing," Romney said.

What a pitiful, flat echo of 2008. With no real accomplishments to speak of -- aside from killing bin Laden -- we saw a small president and an angry one . . . a man willing to ridicule his opponents and implicitly accuse those who disagree with him of not believing in "citizenship."

I don't know how anyone can think the democrats have been duped any more than the republicans. Our choice is basically the inept against the unable. Bush was not altogether responsible for financial deregulation but he preside over it without doing anything while fighting two wars at the same time. Not only did he not pay for them but he lowered taxes at the same time (neither had ever happened in the history of the country). It put us in an incredible hole. Now the people who believed in the tax cuts and financial deregulation are saying that Obama did not fill the hole they dug fast enough. That may be true. He should have smoked them out on the debt ceiling fight, just let them refuse to raise it and live with the consequences. If they were right he would be out of office. If they were wrong they would be out of office. We have a lot of things not working in the country right now. The biggest one is government. Two parties cannot negotiate when they want different outcomes. If Romney is elected that will be true too. Neither republicans or democrats have a clear majority and they do not deserve to.
I've read on newsvine where democrats blog how becoming rich by working in the private sector is a bad thing.That's why they can't support Romney.
If that's a bad thing, then how is becoming rich being a career politican working in the public sector a good thing?
Obama might only be worth $10 million, but we know he didn't work in the private sector and we know that he didn't marry into money and he didn't inherent money. so that should tell you something about Obama and something about democrats who support him.
They would rather be slaves to the government for their lively hood, than be master of their own destiny by earning it in the private sector.

This guy is critical of Obama's speech when he disrespects our troops like this? Twice? Once by not mentioning our troops or Afghanistan at the RNC and then calls them just an entry on a laundry list? Listen to his own words, and I DID NOT BUILD THIS:

In full context, he said, “When you give a speech, you don’t go thru a laundry list; you talk about things you think are important. And I described in my speech a commitment to a strong military, unlike the President’s decision to cut our military, and I didn’t use the word troops, I used the word military, and I think (giggling) they refer to the same thing.”
Except, of course, he wasn’t thanking the military; rather, he was referring to its size while inaccurately criticizing Obama for allegedly cutting the military.
Okay. Let’s just get right to this one, because if you don’t see it for yourself you will not believe Mitt Romney is this bad at campaigning:

The difference is Romney does not use his Military visits as photo ops as Obama does. EVERYTHING he and Michelle do are photo ops, as was the phony trip to Target (which isn't even American, it is a French company). Right, the AP just happened to catch that photo?

Mitt Romney's only interest in defense spending is the war drum rhetoric against Iran. He's saying it to get elected, then he'll gundeck every document the Republicans hand him, because all he is to them is someone alive enough to hold a pen.
The defense cuts were the agreed upon solution, after the 12 member "bipartisan" panel failed to come up with anything substantive to reduce the debt. The Republicans agreed to the cuts, then recanted because that meant it was a slight compromise with the other side. Republicans have refused to play along since the day the President was nominated.
THAT IS A FACT.
I also must add that Military Commanders have also insisted they can work within those cuts, but it would be tough. They Told Ryan that they didn't need to increase the military budget, and were offended when Ryan insisted he knew more about that then they did.

He will release them when we get the Fast & Furious documents and when we get to see the docs from the foreign student grant that paid for Obama's school, the passport records, etc.

It doesn't matter whether Bush went into two wars with congressional approval are not. I also hold the congress more than accountable. The idea that you can find the faults of one party to justify the faults of another party just mystifies me. Bush ask for and demanded a vote for the wars. The evidence he presented proved to be at the very least inconclusive. I blame the democrats too because they were afraid they would be seen as unpatriotic if they did not join in the folly of two wars in the middle east. The consequences have been exactly what they were always going to be. History has shown that many times over. The reason they lowered rather than raise taxes to go to war is because they didn't want their evidence to come under too much scrutiny. The public would have demanded more evidence if they knew their taxes were going to go up to pay for them. They were successful. Both parties own it but Bush pushed for it.
So Ron, ole buddy? What kind of an attack was 9/11? It wasn't a military attack like Pearl Harbor. It was as bin Laden himself asserted, an attack on our financial and government structure.

Lets face it folks. Reaganomics worked on deficit spending for a FEW YEARS. Long enough to keep him in office for 8 years, and long enough to bust the glass ceiling. REMEMBER, Reagan campaigned on anti-deficit....then he ran up debts, then he said the deficit was really not that important.Unlike Romney, Reagan was charismatic, so he could get away with it.
Romney WILL NOT be able to contain the debt AND provide tax breaks for the wealthy. You cannot have your cake and eat it too. We need Michael Moore to make a different version of the 2016 movie. Where your (middle class) tax burden goes up $2000 per/year, more financial and environmental regulations are axed, more homes are lost, the middle class disappears, only a few banks are left standing, and the Chinese economy is stronger than ever thanks to the huge influx of cash from the American 1%.

The economy really isn't that hard to understand. The rich folk that received the benefits of Obama extending the tax cuts to the rich rather then implement his job creating tax reform know this.
A rich man can use that extra tax saving to go out and buy a car for $180,000.00, but give a 100,000 people a job and they all can afford to go out and buy cars for $20,000.00.
The rich folk know you can't build an econmy on the rich buying a few items. You need the middle class buying lots to build an economy.
That's why the rich folk who run GM have announced they are building their new manufacturing plants in China.
That's why the rich folk who run Wells Fargo are out sourcing their jobs to India.
They are taking their resources out of a country who's middle is losing their wealth and putting them in countries who's middle class is growing in wealth.
Not hard to understand, not hard to realize why Obama is a failure.
Setting an all time records for the number of people receiving food stamps is a signal to companies that if they want to survive, they need to move their resources to other countries.
That why we've read that banks and Insurance companies have announced that they are making plans to out source their customer service and computer operation jobs.
That why we are reading why so many retailer are failing.
We just don't have enough people working to sustain our economy, let alone our government.

What we do know for sure is that Obama is a credit card junkie who's spending your money faster than you are making it.

Runaway Romney always had a knack for running away from things. He ran away, after chasing a kid with colored hair in high school, tackled him for being gay, and used shears to cut off his hair, while the kid was screaming, and Romney was laughing!
Romney ran away from Bain Capital after he realized the vulture capitalism he had presided over was also going to be a bane of his career. Runaway Romney retro-actively divorced the company while the legal documents still had Romney in charge as the CEO and the sole owner of 100 per cent of the stock as late as 2004, in order to pursue the Governorship in Massachusetts. I question if Romney really ever ran Bain, or if he just sat at the top and had his minions do all the work. I am not sure if Romney ever invested his heart and money into anything. The money in Bain mostly came from government grants, which Bain would bargain for to save a company, then steal the contents of, after firing all the workers, shutting the companies down, and shipping the equipment to another state or another country, where the labor was either cheaper, or slave!
Romney was asked to save the Utah Olympics. I am still not clear why. Maybe it was his dad's political influence and contacts in high places like Washington? Romney knew it was a chance to shake off the taint of the workers he had been preying on for years. He didn't invest any of his own money to save the Olympics, though! Romney got George Bush to approve a 1.7 billion dollar grant, the highest cost for an Olympics, in the history of the Olympics, to save the Winter games, where Romney and the other members of the Olympic board proceeded to turn it into a profitable resource by starting the trend of buying outsourced uniforms for our American athletes. Were they made in Romney Enterprise Zones in China, or in one of his other Enterprise Zones in the Phillipines or Mexico? It was time to run away again, before too many questions were asked.
Romney had established, per his tax records, for deductions he could get for his Chateau in Utah by claiming "primary residence", while at the same time telling the Massachusetts voting commission he was a legal resident in Massachusetts, in order to qualify for running for Governor! He lied to them! Romney's solution..retroactively change his tax paperwork to make the problem go away. He manipulated past tax records by paying fines and taxes to "fix" the "oops" mistake he wanted to run away from!
In Massachusetts, Romney was for full-on pro-choice rights of women, because the state was! Romney expressed many times his total belief in a woman having the sole responsibility over her body! Then Romney ran away!
Now, Runaway Romney is Pro-life, in so far as he would support the Ryan Bill for legislation against all abortion, even if a woman was raped or a victim of incest, or if her health would suffer because of the birth.
The question is where will Runaway Romney run next! Romney didn't really lead Massachusetts to prosperity. He left Massachusetts with billions of dollars in debt while he had raised taxes astronomically in the state by calling them fees. He left big decisions to those working for him and they did a dismal job and created the 47th worst job creation record in the US! Because that might taint Romneys record, he ran away once again, never to mention Massachusetts ever again.
Now, Romney is running for the White House. His past covictions and core values reset like an Etch-A-Sketch in order to match the needs of the voters he was determined to represent. No longer an advocate for women's rights, he refuses to endorse the Lilly Ledbetter act, even after Obama signed it into law, giving women the right to equal pay as men in similar jobs! Runaway Romney had to run away from reporters for this and many questions about his stances on what Romney stands for are still sought.
Romney refuses to tell us what he believes. Romney refuses to tell us his plans for doubling the Defense department spending he promises us and the wars in Syria and Libya and Iran and his disdain for Russia he is espousing, but won't clarify what he would actually do! "Trust me!", Romney says.
The one thing we can see in common, through all the years Mitt Romney has been working his way toward the presidency, is his knack for finding others to take the blame for what he was always responsible for, for changing the truth in order to accomplish his goals, his lack of respect for the United States as he would rather hide his riches in off-shore tax havens, while telling us to "Trust Him!", and his ability to shed his past like a chameleon!
We are beginning to see what Runaway Romney was running away from by the testimonies of the worker's lives he displaced, the states he mis-managed, the profits off the Olymoics he was able to garner, as well as the notoriety, while his greed was the highlight of his only virtue. Yes, Runaway Romney could get things done, by hiring illegal groundskeepers before he was a Governor of Massachusetts, and firing them because they might taint his chances for winning the election. Runaway Romney would never divulge that it was George Bush and our tax dollars that saved the Olympics, while running away from that truth so he could wear the mantle of the "Olympic Savior" for himself!
It would seem that Romney has a slight problem in his life! He is not sure where he wants to go. He certainly wants to achieve the Presidency and is willing to hire the Bush advisory team and depend on Carl Rove, and the Koch Brothers, and FOX NEWS, and Sheldon Adelson, who will contribute hundreds of millions of dollars to get Romney elected. Sheldon's backing is of interest! Sheldon would supoport Romney's candidacy, in order to get Obama's legal team from delving any further into the bribing practices Sheldon employed with state officials in China, remarkably about the same time Romney was opening his Romney Enterprise Zones there, too!
Romney sees the White House as his next shiny bauble, as dear to him as his prancing horsie, his car elevator, and his Utah Chateau and million dollar residences from California to Massachusetts, as well as overseas.Romeny wants the White House so bad he can taste it!
Romney can't wait to win the White House and call that his own. Romney is willing to do anything, say anything, to excite his Republican base to vote for him. Romney has no regard for the truth. He makes John McCain, the flip-flopper record holder, look like a cheap carnival act. Romney has multiple shifts to core values in less than three hour periods on abortion rights, what to do with GM, what to do do in Iran, and anything Obama is for, he is instantly against!
Romney has no real capacity to lead, as he has no "core value, other than greed", to establish a base for his convictions. The Presidency will just be another position within a firm to allow Runaway Romney to skim profits off the top!
Romney, as President, will allow the Bush advisors and the Koch Brothers, the Oil Companies, the Banks, the NRA, and his fellow vulture capitalists, like Grover Norquist, to craft the legislation and de-regulations they desire to get passed!
Romney won't lead! Romney might have to take responsibility for his actions if he does! Romney has invested tens of millions for himself and tens of millions for his five boys in Charter Schools! As President, he will undoubtedly be pushing to make himself a profit by shutting down public school systems and giving us vouchers for Charter schools, so we can choose, but not afford to send our children to, without additional funds from our own wallets! Forty-five to one hundred students and theatre like settings with a pc in front of each student, instead of a teacher that can inter-act with the students, will never create the inter-personal skillsets our children can get at a public school. But it will serve Romney's goal of making his investments pay off once again, with little investment and his finger on the scales!
Where will Runaway Romney go next, when he finds the White House too confining? Will he even stay in it? Bush added $5.1 trillion to the national debt in 8 years. Obama added $5.9 trillion to the national debt in 3.75 years.
You don't add money to the national debt by cutting spending, you add money to the national debt by spending money you don't have.
