Paul Ryan on Obama: Good at speeches, 'really bad at creating jobs'

Cathleen Allison / AP

Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan greets the crowd at Peterbilt Truck & Parts Equipment in Sparks, Nev., on Friday.

SPARKS, Nev. -- Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan continued his harsh words for President Barack Obama and the Democrats Friday while campaigning in the battleground state of Nevada on the day the most recent jobs numbers were released.

“President Obama is not a bad guy. He's good at giving great speeches, he's just really bad at creating jobs,” Ryan told the crowd outside Peterbilt Truck Parts & Equipment.

Friday morning, the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced the US economy added just 96,000 jobs, which was below expectations and the unemployment rate dropped from 8.3 percent to 8.1 percent.

"We got some pretty disappointing news just today,” the House Budget Chairman said in front of roughly 1,400 people. “You know we learned today that for every person that got a job, nearly four people stopped looking for a job. They gave up. We can’t keep doing this.”

Ryan continued: “Our economy needs to create just 150,000 jobs every month just to keep up with the growth of our population. Friends, this is not an economic recovery, this is nowhere close to an economic recovery. We need a new president, and we need a real economic recovery.”

Friday’s event outside of Reno marked the seven-term Wisconsin congressman’s second public event in the Silver State since being tapped as Mitt Romney’s running mate in early August. Ryan reminded the crowd, surrounded by truck cabs, just how crucial their vote on Nov. 6 is.

“Nevadans you know this. You have a lot of power in your hands … you're a battleground state,” he said. “That means you have a very special responsibility. Lots of people around the country are depending on you. You also have a great opportunity. Because if we meet this moment for what it is, we can get ourselves back on the right track.”

Ryan will now turn his full attention to fundraising while on the West Coast. He holds a pair of private fundraisers Friday night in the San Francisco area and then will be in Fresno, Calif., Saturday before heading to Portland, Ore., and Seattle on Monday.

Paul Ryan is relly bad at telling the truth.

Ryan assisted in creating the REPUBLICAN GREAT RECESSION of 2008.

Over 4 million private sector jobs is actually more than the Bush's combined. In the face of the worst economic downturn in our lifetime I would say that is a fairly good achievement. Of course, Ryan block all the legislation that would have created millions of more jobs. He has little room to criticize.

Ryan tell the truth for once in your life: we would be much further along in the recovery if I didn't make a pledge with other Republicans not to work with Democrats esp. the President on the day of President Obama's inaugration. Proven evidence is in our voting record, we are actually worse than Eisenhower's Do-Nothing Congress.

We have had tax breaks sense Bush was in office, and no jobs. Get rid of all tax breaks except for all companies big and small. Make them 15% for the compenies.

US Presidents do NOT create jobs. US companies and corporations are the creators of employment. The only possible employment that could be created by any President are Federal Government jobs and the Republicans are determined to stop Federal Government spending that would create such employment.

However, on the other hand, Mr Willard Romney, while employed by Bain Capital, WAS very good at destroying jobs.

Romney say's Obama isn't good at creating jobs but doesn't say Obama is good at losing hundred of thousands of jobs a month. Even adding 1 job is better than that. What has the republican congress brought forward to open up jobs? What are they saying about creating jobs in the future? Did they mention at the RNC about what they have done in the last 2 years to open up jobs?

They have put MANY bills on Reid's desk that they call "jobs bills" ....

But they're all this "trickle down", "tax cuts for the rich" garbage and not ACTUALLY jobs bills. Jobs INO.

What I find disturbing is that ALL the Republicans have pledged to an outside organization, not to raise taxes. People who are elected to work for the PEOPLE have a responsibility to serve the PEOPLE, not make pledges to work against the interests of the PEOPLE.

Grover Norquist is not the PEOPLE.

Paul Ryan is so sure he can create jobs, he needs to be a loyal American citizen and do it RIGHT NOW!!!! He doesn't have to wait until he and Mitt are in office. Just think how many out-of-work folks would vote for him if he created millions of jobs NOW. If I had stretched the truth like Ryan has done to try and get elected, my mother would have washed my mouth out......with soap!

Go ahead and continue the advance the mantra of a "do nothing Congress", and deny the FACT of a "do nothing" Senate. NO BUDGET submitted to date, and Reid's "whatever Republicans advance in Congress, is DOA here in the Senate".

The real TRUTH is not that Congress does nothing, it is Obama decided in 2010 to adopt FDR's campaign strategy and promote the IDEA that he is running against a Republican Congress. What this has accomplished is gridlock.

As a "conservative" would rather see gridlock than advance progressive liberal agenda. Americans know that we already are already being TAXED out the wazoo.

Democrats have already admitted that raising taxes on the rich will do nothing to lower the deficit, it will simply advance progressive liberal agenda and mantra of FAIR. FAIR to progressive liberals is CODE for socialism.

By creating jobs through taxation, is myth proof? Public service jobs were debunked, by stimulus wasted on "shovel ready jobs". Temporary jobs that dry-up as soon as stimulus dollars do. What you end up with is laid off workers, and Obama asking for more taxes.

The House has passed a budget. But the Senate refuses to pass it:

"Democrats controlling the Senate rejected for the second year in a row a budget plan passed by House Republicans."

        Furthermore:

"President Obama's budget suffered a second embarrassing defeat Wednesday, when senators voted 99-0 to reject it."

          Sad sad FOX viewer .....

Send the Senate something that ISN'T propaganda, and they will pass it.

And remember .... the REPUBLICANS put up that so-called Obama budget, not democrats and it was voted down by dems because it wasn't actually his budget.

            #89.1 - Sat Sep 8, 2012 11:17 AM EDT

Then why didn't they take up Session's challenge?

"Democrats disputed that it was actually the president's plan, arguing that the slim amendment didn't actually match Mr. Obama's budget document, which ran thousands of pages. But Republicans said they used all of the president's numbers in the proposal, so it faithfully represented his plan.

Sen. Jeff Sessions, Alabama Republican, even challenged Democrats to point out any errors in the numbers and he would correct them — a challenge no Democrats took up."

              #89.2 - Sat Sep 8, 2012 11:28 AM EDT

Also, the only reason the Senate Republican's even put a budget is because no Senate Democrat has proposed a budget. Why not? Isn't that their job? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Senate has been controlled by Democrat's for six years.

Agreed Mr. Ryan, but WHY is that? Let's go into that .. shall we?

While Obama was preparing for his inauguration (the day of), you were at a Washington DC restaurant with 15 other republicans (including Newt and Hoekstra) plotting on how to make sure Obama wasn't re-elected. You and those 15 other republicans voted UNANIMOUSLY to obstruct ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that might help the democrats or Obama ... regardless of if it was right for the country. You did this for PURE POLITICAL GAIN. There have been PLENTY of bills to help Americans get back to work, but you've obstructed or filibustered EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM that wasn't a republican "tax cuts for the rich" bill. You and those 15 other republicans essentially vowed to destroy America, it's workforce, and it's economy.

Mr. Ryan, I consider this TREASON.

For the first two years of Obama's term, the Republican's didn't control either the house or the senate.

Instead of concentrating on job growth during those TWO YEARS.... remember the democrat's controlled the house, senate and presidency...they decided to concentrate on expanding government by the way of a massive take over of the healthcare industry. He did this for PURE POLITICAL GAIN of HIS base.

Paul Ryan appears to be a pathological liar....not exactly uncommon in the profession I suppose......however; on the jobs issue.....he and Cantor have held the purse strings for two years and have turned their backs on the american people in hopes that the president would fail.........that's un-american...that's unpatriotic. As Clinton would say..........it takes brass for him to go after the president on the jobs issue. Look at his record....he was one of the big spenders that caused the financial collapse. have a nice day

@Memphis Kelley, remember back on 2010 when the repubs said that they were going to be creating jobs. Where did that idea go? just curious because they said that they could do it but yet nothing. I guess in your opinion it is ok if repubs lie and say things that never come to light but when this president who actually is trying to do something about the jobs and gets cut off at every turn by the other side he gets slammed. This president never said it was going to be easy, he never said he has this magic wand to create jobs with, etc. Jobs are being created not as many as he or anyone would like, but they are being created and you on the other side can't even give the guy any credit for that. This President is trying and from day one Mitchie from Kentucky and company have said that they were going to do everything to make sure that this president is a one timer, really? I consider that teason, because they want to make him a one term president and let the country go under even more than it was when Pres Obama came to office. That just proves that the repubs don't give a rats behind about us ( the people) or the country! GOP = the party of stupid!

The only thing stopping a FULL recovery of jobs and the economy is the Republican Party, they've done everything in their power to "make sure Obama is a one-term President", and unfortunately, you need all hands on deck in such a deep recession to pull a country as large as America out of the hole we're in.

Get rid of every Republican in Congress and watch the economy and the stock market soar to the greatest heights this world has ever seen!

In 2009 the Democrats had full control....the house, senate and presidency. Why didn't the economy and the stock market soar to the greatest heights the world ever saw then?

The republicans had a golden opportunity after the 2010 elections to retake the WH in this election. With the economy in poor condition and them campaigning on a platform of jobs jobs jobs they were in a no lose situation. All they needed to do was pass job bills (and i don't mean just tax cuts bills.) they could even have passed the President's job bills and taken credit for ll jobs created. If the President's ideas didn't work they could say "See we told that theses policies don't work" and if jobs were created they could say "We made it happen. If the democrats had been serious about jobs it would have happened in the previous 2 years." Instead of trying to create jobs, they decided to take over 30 votes to repeal Obamacare and over 30 votes on abortion which they knew would never get through the senate. As far as stimulus bills, remember that in 2003 while in a lesser recessionary period Paul Ryan made an impassioned argument to pass a Keynesian stimulus bill which he said that history has shown to work to boost the economy and create jobs (which it did at that time.) the only change since that 2003 time and now other than the severity of the recession (worse now than then) is that Bush was president then and Obama is president now.

Memo to Ryan: America has been losing jobs since 9-11 at a rate of 800,000 per month. There has been a steady uptick in jobs production by the private sector even without the direct assistance of the current 112th Congress. Real incomes and wages are not rising due to employer discretion as many are trying to keep their own profitability. Romney's additional trying to hang the jobs numbers on the president is ludicrous as it's the Congress' responsibility to legislate jobs production atmosphere. Every history book I've read makes the Congressional House responsible for legislating for jobs production and tax code rules and regulations. Employment is in the hands of the employers and the employers could make news with employing more, but many are holding onto their money to see who will win the election.

President Obama could have gotten a lot more done this year, if he did not have the Demon Spawn, Republicans in Congress BLOCKING EVERYTHING, including their own ideas.

If elected the next time, some NEW Congress people are going to have to come along with him.

Republicans want to give the Military even more money and NO TAX INCREASE FOR THE WEALTHY AND ENCOURAGE MORE WARS, as the Job Creators CREATE THOSE INVISIBLE JOBS for you and the Country. So how will the Deficit get paid down with that kind of STUPIDITY by the party of Republicans and low information voters who keep voting for Republicans against their own interest.

The President has sent a JOBS BILL TO THEM. What are they doing with it -ZERO. Republicans are busy VOTING ON More Big Government on Women's Bodies, REPEALING HEALTH CARE, - 30 TIMES AND COUNTING. Fight to Protect MILLIONAIRES from paying as little as a 1% increase in Taxes. Voting to EMBARRASS the Attorney General on a Witch Hunt.
