Paul Ryan on Obama: Good at speeches, 'really bad at creating jobs'

Cathleen Allison / AP

Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan greets the crowd at Peterbilt Truck & Parts Equipment in Sparks, Nev., on Friday.

SPARKS, Nev. -- Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan continued his harsh words for President Barack Obama and the Democrats Friday while campaigning in the battleground state of Nevada on the day the most recent jobs numbers were released.

“President Obama is not a bad guy. He's good at giving great speeches, he's just really bad at creating jobs,” Ryan told the crowd outside Peterbilt Truck Parts & Equipment.

Friday morning, the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced the US economy added just 96,000 jobs, which was below expectations and the unemployment rate dropped from 8.3 percent to 8.1 percent.

"We got some pretty disappointing news just today,” the House Budget Chairman said in front of roughly 1,400 people. “You know we learned today that for every person that got a job, nearly four people stopped looking for a job. They gave up. We can’t keep doing this.”

Ryan continued: “Our economy needs to create just 150,000 jobs every month just to keep up with the growth of our population. Friends, this is not an economic recovery, this is nowhere close to an economic recovery. We need a new president, and we need a real economic recovery.”

Friday’s event outside of Reno marked the seven-term Wisconsin congressman’s second public event in the Silver State since being tapped as Mitt Romney’s running mate in early August. Ryan reminded the crowd, surrounded by truck cabs, just how crucial their vote on Nov. 6 is.

“Nevadans you know this. You have a lot of power in your hands … you're a battleground state,” he said. “That means you have a very special responsibility. Lots of people around the country are depending on you. You also have a great opportunity. Because if we meet this moment for what it is, we can get ourselves back on the right track.”

Ryan will now turn his full attention to fundraising while on the West Coast. He holds a pair of private fundraisers Friday night in the San Francisco area and then will be in Fresno, Calif., Saturday before heading to Portland, Ore., and Seattle on Monday.

KOCHTOMANIA

Greed is like a gambling habit,

the adrenaline from a dose of "success"

creates desire for another and another

in a destructive self-propelled spiral, like

the So-called Subprime Mortgage Crisis.

How many crises does it take

to prove regulatory controls

protect capitalism?

Every time they've been removed,

we spiral out of control,

And the registers ring

for the One Percent.

Reagan deregulated the S&Ls

causing the S&L Crisis.

Bush deregulated energy

causing the energy crisis.

Bush/Clinton deregulated the banks

causing the Great Recession.

The KOCH-funded Neo-Birch Tea Party wants

even LESS regulation. Are they mad?

No, narcissistically greedy.

With credit swaps and short-selling the

One Percent profits nicely from crises.

And “Entitlements” just get in the way.

Get it? We’re their yo-yos.

If you do, get angry,

enough to do something about it.

If you think the last crisis was bad

wait 'til a Rand-wrong Republican

returns to the White House.

Randism’s a Trojan Horse conceived in the USSR.

The subversives have names like

Birch, Hunt, Welch, Koch, Coulter, Beck and Limbaugh.

You don’t need to be a genius

to get this, just brain dead

not to.

Wow, a lot of vitriol here! Let's calm things down, stop pointing fingers and ask some simple questions like:

1. Is the economy going in the right direction or the wrong direction?

2. If you "tax the rich" at even 100% (which you can only do once), how much money would that get the Federal Government?

3. Even if you could tax the 1% at 100%, would you trust the politicians to spend it wisely?

4. So, if the economy has stagnated (and statisically, that is a given) and you taxed the 1% at 100% (which would fund the federal government for about two additional weeks) and you cannot trust the federal government to spend the money (for the next two weeks) with wisdom and integrity...don't you have a big government spending problem?

As such, whatever your political persuasion, Ryan is trying to give honest, realistic, albeit difficult, solutions.

1. Yes it is correcting, but too slowly. A bit less obstructionism from the likes of Ryan, and we'd do better!

2. The upper 2% offer a tax base of about $2.71T every year! You're making a fool of yourself.

3. The rich can afford a bit more, and electing somebody other than tea party zealots (or preachers) can get effective action.

4. We have a spending problem and a revenue problem. The debt won't get paid down by spending cuts anyway, so you're offering a false premise. It will get paid down over time by balanced actions.

So how many jobs have Herman and Eddie Munster created along with their fellow 1%ers since they're had these tax cuts all these years? Or will the only start creatin' jobs if they get MORE tax cuts? I'd like to know at what point above 0% they will create said jobs so I can figure out the ROI for the rest of us job (killers?) who pay most of the taxes in this country.

So let's hear some friggin' ideas or proposals about HOW you are going to create these jobs. So far it's been nothing but platitudes. You're great at criticizing the guy trying (against your best efforts to stymie him) to creat jobs. Maybe your rhetoric would carry more weight if your leaders hadn't explicitly said their TOP priority was to make Obama a one term president. I guess even if it sinks the economy you will do anything to try to make that happen.

They both had their A$$E$ handed to them. Now I'am using this term lightly, but a NORMAL person would be embarassed. Then again neither one of the two is normal. Must be nice to not have any more respect for thyself or thy family and just go on like nothing ever happened. Like Clinton said "Takes a lot of brass". Mitt the Twitt is not done yet. He said the reason he never mentioned Afghanistan was this:

Mitt Romney told Bret Baier on Fox News today that he did not talk about the troops in his convention speech because, “You don’t go through a laundry list; you talk about the things you think are important.”

In full context, he said, “When you give a speech, you don’t go thru a laundry list; you talk about things you think are important. And I described in my speech a commitment to a strong military, unlike the President’s decision to cut our military, and I didn’t use the word troops, I used the word military, and I think (giggling) they refer to the same thing.”

Except, of course, he wasn’t thanking the military; rather, he was referring to its size while inaccurately criticizing Obama for allegedly cutting the military.

Okay. Let’s just get right to this one, because if you don’t see it for yourself you will not believe Mitt Romney is this bad at campaigning:
    http://www.politicususa.com/mitt-twit-strikes-again-romney-troops-important.html

So, to Mitt the Twitt, our troops and the war in Afghanistan are on a 'laundry list', and were left out because he wanted to talk about the 'important stuff'.

It is the first time since 1952 that an acceptance speech didn't even mention war, and probably the first time in history that an active war was ignored.

It probably just slipped his mind. After all, he went to France instead of Vietnam. He claims that he REALLY WANTED to go to Vietnam, but he had to serve his church. Hogwash.

What if your family budget looked like this?

(Add eight Zero's to get the government's budget)

Annual Family Income (Federal Tax Revenue) 21,700

          Money Spent (Federal Budget) (38,200)

Credit Card Balance (National Debt) (158,750)

          Recent Budget Cuts 385

          Annual Balance (174,865)

How would you balance this budget?

            Reply#75 - Sat Sep 8, 2012 9:07 AM EDT

Oh, and if you taxed all incomes over 1 million dollars at 100%, you would get

$6,160. So, based on the Budget above, your "family" income could rise to $27,860...which would bring your annual balance down to (168,705).

Only two ways to balance a budget. Increase income or reduce spending.

Mr. Obama is the real deal, Mr. Biden is the real deal. They are the program of record and while that economic record is hardly perfect, the path forward has been steady and consistent. Moreover the record on foreign policy is just superb, a real example of effective hope and change in the arena where a President has the most control.

Mr Ryan is the real deal too -- a leading Grand Obstructionist Poopie in his Clown Car Congress who would rather pass gas than useful legislation. Yet in spite of him, the score is clear:

Jobs from Mr. Obama .... 4.5 million (including 250000 saving the auto industry)

Jobs from Mr Ryan and his GOP...... ZERO!

Can anyone believe the next four years will see a completed recovery? I can see a good chance of it. A lot more than I can believe Myth Robme and Lyin Ryan ... their voodoo economics is a cruel joke and an affront to sound arithmetic everywhere!

Is this the economy we want? Looks to me like a textbook case of masturbatory (trickle down) voodoo economics guaranteed to feather the nests of the 1%rs and screw the rest of US. When pressed on details ol' Myth just babbles about his (vulture) business experience. He's like Rudy Giuliani, but instead of "noun, verb, 9/11", you get "noun, verb, businessman". He has whole Federal agencies scheduled for "creative destruction" with no idea of the real impact on anyone else (just like at Bain Capital). He wants to save defense programs, but lower taxes (only on his fellow 1%ers of course) and the numbers just don't add up. You'd think some of these self-righteous monkeys would have the integrity to get that Lyin' Ryan budget scored by the CBO? Nah, not a chance.

The economic theory of the democrats is Keynesian economics:

"Keynes recommends that, during periods of recession, Congress should increase government spending in order to “prime the pump” of the economy. At the same time, he recommends, Congress should decrease taxes in order to give households more disposable income with which they can buy more products. Through both methods of fiscal policy, the increase in aggregate demand stimulates firms to increase production, hire workers, and increase household incomes to enable them to buy more."

Why are the democrats not following their own theory? When they say they want to increase taxes--and the theory says to decrease taxes?

                #76.1 - Sat Sep 8, 2012 9:31 AM EDT

What planet are you on? In case you haven't noticed, tax rates are already at historic lows. Mr Obama has reduced payroll taxes where he can, and the budget plans going forward generally are looking to keep taxes low on the middle class and keep up some seed spending on infrastructure and R&D.

I'm sorry if don't have the honesty to notice, but, yes they are following the theory and would do better if the subversive GOP would actually help find solutions rather than just passing gas!

No, they want to raise taxes. What planet are you on? During this election, they have said they want to increase taxes on those making $250K and over. The theory doesn't say to decrease on some and increase on others. And, Obama's own party will not pass his budget. The Senate has not passed a budget in three years. So, yes I have noticed.

                  #76.3 - Sat Sep 8, 2012 9:45 AM EDT

The theory is flexible on how you change the taxes, and the theory is only a model for practical politics.

Most of US say taking the higher incomes is just fine. The rich can afford it, with an annual tax base of about $2.7T AGI every year!

Most of the tax cutting is already done, the balance of stimulus on energy sources, broadly based R&D, education, and infrastructure needs attention.

YES 100% better than 4 years ago. Why? Because the GOP aren't in the WH Fn things up anymore. Sure they run congress like bullies run the playground, blocking everything, taking from those who don't have much, only to get more for themselves. The GOP will without a doubt cut taxes for the rich, which ONLY saddles that onto the middle class. The GOP WILL invade Iran, which cost hundreds of billion in wasted money that could rebuild America.. But alas, the GOP hate America and will rebuild the world before we rebuild this homeland. The GOP or Goofy Old People party just don't get it. Paul Ryan complains President Obama hasn't done enough to create jobs. Pauly Shore Ryan has NEVER EVER created a job in his life. He went to work for CONgress right after. Paul Ryan HOW will YOU create jobs? As far as I can see, ANY job created at the federal level is a federal job. The Federal government can't create private or public sector jobs. Sorry GOPers.. Its NOT the governments fault nor their job to create jobs for Americans. ITS the corporations jobs. Now the problem with that is, the GOP is giving rich people tax cuts, most are CEO's etc, who then stock pile their "tax cut" into cash in off-shore accounts, Hey Mittens, that ring a bell? Then instead of creating a job with that "tax cut" they get richer, while Americans have to work longer, for less. Corporate tax rates are one of the lowest in the industrialized world. Around 75-80% under Reagan, now around 35%.. What does that tell you? Less taxes, means less of everything.. Of course we are running a Trillion behind each year, the tea nuts and gopers are complaining taxes are too damn high. BS.. They are lowest since 1950. So suck it up and start paying. We can't continue to just fight wars. Or the past will repeat itself. The Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, all had military might, England, Japan, Russia, Germany, etc, too.. What happened? They all failed, they all crumbled they all got occupied and overthrown. Can America afford that? NO>> We can't afford the GOP which will bring those things to our shores again!

Where do you get your numbers:

                      April 2012

"After eight years of having the second-highest corporate tax rate among industrialized countries, the United States has now assumed the top spot following Japan's scheduled corporate rate cut on April 1, 2012. Since 2001, Japan had levied the highest combined corporate tax rate among OECD nations at 39.5 percent[1], slightly higher than the 39.2 percent combined federal-state rate in the U.S. Japan's new rate is 38.01 percent, which includes a temporary 10 percent surtax that will expire after 2014.[2]"
