Kerry to launch foreign policy broadside against Romney

Updated 6:40 p.m. - CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Sen. John Kerry will launch a broadside against Mitt Romney this evening on an issue -- foreign policy -- that has largely taken a backseat to a weeklong focus on the economy.

Senator and former presidential candidate John Kerry, D-Ma., stands at the podium during a walk through of the stage area ahead of the second session of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, September 5, 2012.

Kerry, the 2008 Democratic presidential nominee and the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, will cast GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney's foreign policy as either incomprehensible or a retread of the Bush administration.

"In this campaign, we have a fundamental choice: Will we protect our country and our allies, advance our interests and ideals, do battle where we must, and make peace where we can?" Kerry will say, according to advance excerpts of his speech. "Or will we entrust our place in the world to someone who just hasn't learned the lessons of the last decade?"

Democrats have criticized Romney for barely referencing foreign policy in his nomination acceptance speech last week in Tampa, making no reference at all to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that stretched must of the last decade. (Romney has defended himself by pointing to remarks he delivered the day before that focused largely on issues of foreign policy and national security.)

Ahead of tonight's speeches, the Romney campaign argued Thursday would be an excercise in rewriting history in Obama's record.

"An inventory of his record shows that by nearly all measures, President Obama has diminished American influence abroad and compromised our interests and values," wrote Romney policy director Lanhee Chen.

First lady Michelle Obama speaks to NBC's Brian Williams about keeping life balanced for her daughters. She is focused on keeping their lives as normal as possible while allowing them to appreciate their chance to witness history.

Foreign policy hasn't been at the forefront of this week's Democratic National Convention, but Kerry will look to turn the spotlight tonight to that issue, on which Obama owns an advantage over Romney in the polls.

Kerry will take aim at two of Romney's central criticisms of Obama in the speech, relating to Israel and the management of the war in Afghanistan. (Romney has accused Obama of throwing Israel "under the bus," and has criticized Obama's timetable for withdrawing from Afghanistan too dangerous, though Romney wouldn't keep a full level of troops there for that much longer.)

"Barack Obama promised always to stand with Israel -- to tighten sanctions on Iran and take nothing off the table. Again and again the other side has lied about where this President stands and what this President has done," Kerry will say.

On Afghanistan, the Massachusetts senator (and potential future secretary of state in the Obama administration) will say: "It isn’t fair to say Mitt Romney doesn’t have a position on Afghanistan. He has every position."

Is Kerry going to tell us how Obama is going to be more flexible as he whispered to the Russians? Is Kerry going to tell us what he will do to keep Iran from becoming nuclear if they won't be already before January? Will Kerry tell us if there is going to be a second apology tour? Will Kerry tell us what we are getting for the millions and billions to the Muslim brotherhood in Egypt and Hamas? Is Kerry going to tell us how he is going to patch up the distrust created when classified information was released to Hollywood? Americans may think Obama knows something about foreign relations because the Seals got Obama! Obama wants us to be a weak, second class nation in the world and has our enemies drooling over our demise!

"Ask Osama Bin Laden if he's better off that he was four years ago." said John Kerry. That was a pretty good line.

Other than that, my goodness, how cranky Senator Kerry is.

So here we are again, liberals panicking until they wet their pants.

They know that "O" is just going to offer up empty promises again tonight. He is an expert at that. Why would any level headed, smart, intelligent voter ever believe that he can make things different than he did the last four years? He is just a flash in the pan, plain and simple. Flashy for sure; charisma, yes; smart, not really. And finally, desperate, YES! Sad Really sad. I hope he will take his loss like a true American instead of a stupid muslim. Fat chance.

In his complaint, Karger lays out a chronology of Romney's real estate moves since his failed presidential bid in 2008. According to Karger's timetable, Romney and his wife, Ann, bought a $12.5 million home in La Jolla, California, in May 2008. ("I wanted to be where I could hear the waves," Romney told the AP of his move to the West Coast.) Thereafter, Romney became a regular at California political events, even campaigning for Meg Whitman during her gubernatorial bid. A year later, in April 2009, the Romneys sold their home in Belmont, Massachusetts, for $3.5 million, and registered to vote from an address in the basement of an 8,000 square-foot Belmont manse owned by their son Tagg. But where the Romneys really lived these past couple of years seems to be a bit of a mystery. While Romney was appearing at so many California political events people were speculating he was going to run for office there, the National Journal reported in May 2009 that the Romneys had made their primary residence a $10 million estate in New Hampshire.

The discrepancies in the news coverage prompted Karger to take a closer look, in part because he found it dubious that a guy worth $500 million would really be living in his son's basement.

The American people gave Barack Obama
as much of a mandate as anyone since
    Ronald Reagan. Full Democratic control
of both the House and the Senate, Washington
D.C., on a silver platter. If he wanted
Social Security reform, all he had to do,
was write it and sign it. If he wanted
Welfare reform, all he had to do, was write
    it and sign it.

If he wanted military reform, all he had to
do, was write it and sign it. If he wanted
medical reform, all he had to do, was write
it and sign it. If he wanted Medicare reform,
all he had to do, was write it and sign it.
If he wanted Campaign Finance reform, all
he had to do, was write it and sign it.
Immigration reform, stem cell research, NASA,
housing finance, Wall Street reform, abortion
reform, judicial reform, you name it, it was his.

All we got out of Barack Obama was WallStreet
Welfare, a premium entitlement program for the
Insurance Industry, and what the hell kind of
light bulb we were allowed to buy.

Whether you are a sanitation worker, or a medical
intern, if you fail your probationary period,
you are gone. Obama has been given a four year
probationary period, it's time to give another
candidate a chance. Romney has to be better,
because he sure as hell can't be any worse.

bin laden was beat into submission the military under Bush and no longer had any life besides hiding in a cave. A drone strike would have been the best method to take him out but instead let's put our people in harms way for political gain.

What a joke to try and ride on the backs of our troops because you suck so bad you can't stand on your own record. obtw, that phrase "it's the economy stupid" that they are trying to avoid talking about comes to mind.

If Barack Hussein Obama had kept his campaign promises, he would have closed the Guantanamo Bay detention center. Two thousand of the worst terrorists in the world would be eating American food on American tables in air conditioned comfort on Rykers Island in NY City. If left to Biden and Obama, they would be watching cable television and waiting twenty years for their lawyers' motions and objections to clear the American judicial system, before they ever saw a day in court.

If left to Barack Obama and Joe Biden, District Attorneys wouldn't be able to interview Sheik Khalid Mohammed and the terrorists without their lawyers present, to say nothing of FBI and CIA interrogation. If left to Biden and Obama, Mohammed would never have given the CIA the name of the Kuwaiti who lead them to bin Laden. Over the strident objections of Barack Obama, Joe Biden and the entire Democratic Party, Guantanamo remains open, Mohammed was interrogated and did give up the Kuwaiti, and the Navy Seals, despite the objections of Biden, Obama and all the Democrats, took out Osama bin Laden.

If Barack Obama had been President of the United States on 9/11, Saddam Hussein would still be running Iraq, the Taliban would still be running
Afghanistan, and the United States would still be hunting Osama bin Laden.

Romney quote, "I would not spend billions of dollars to catch one man. Osama Bin Laden is not worth moving heaven and earth."

OUR PRESIDENT promised he'd make finding Bin Laden one of his top priorities. Barack Obama reconstituted the team that was disbanded by George W. Bush whose one and only job was to find Bin Laden.

Barack gave the order against most all the "politicians" advice. He put his faith in our SOCUM soldiers after the Marines Chief of Staff told him, "We can get this done."

I don't believe Mr. Romney would have had the backbone to go against his closest advisers and go with the one Marine.

So you and your ilk can blather all you want. Make all the bullsh!t claims from fidiots & Birthers around the world. President Barack Obama has proven his worth and his mettle. I wish we had a Commander In Chief like him sooner; like 8 years sooner.

Barack Hussein Obama ll is not an American, but an Islamic socialist. Born from a Communist mother and socialist father. Raised in Indonesia by his step-father Lolo Soetoro, then later, sent to Hawaii to live with his Communist grandparents. There, Barry Soetoro (only 10 yrs. old) was mentored by a known Communist, Frank Marshall Davis and Barry’s grandparents, until he graduated from high school.

Barry entered Occidental College as Barry Soetoro, an exchange student from Indonesia. Two years later, he enrolled @ Columbia University where Obama networks with Marxist professors/followers, black radicals and Pakistani students.

After graduating from Harvard Law School, Obama meets Bill Ayers, known terrorist and co-founder of the Underground Weather. Obama is inspired by Ayers to run for public office and is supported by the “New Party”, an organization that was originally called the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

Barack Obama’s 20 yr. association with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright had left Obama with many political scars and enhanced Obama’s desire for social order in government.

Today, Barack Obama still claims his devotion to Islam, while mocking Christianity. President Barack Obama plans to cut military spending in half, eliminating 80% of our defense weapons, including nuclear weapons and make the US dependent of energy, especially from petroleum oil. The economy is sliding back into recession, with a good chance to hit rock bottom. If this happens, the free world, as we know it, will be devastated. It will be then when the Islamic nations take over, with the help of Russia, ending democracy.

There is a dark side of Barack Obama that separates his ideals from those who live and believe in “We the People………….”. Form your own opinion, if you like, but mine rests heavily on the future of our great nation.

          May God bless America.

The question of whether rom;ney would have unilaterally ordered US forces into Pakistan is a moot point. Look back at the 2007-2008 Presidential Primary debates in Iowa, South Carolina and several other venues rom;ney said he would notify Pakistan and that he would respect the "sovereignty of Pakistan" and he harshly criticized then-candidate Obama for stating he would unilaterally order troops into Pakistan to get Bin Laden. Now think about what would have happened if rom;ney had notified Pakistan that we were going in to get Bin Lade. They would have moved Bin Laden to a safe location and the Seal Team Six squad would most likely have flown into an ambush. Thank heavens President Obama got it right.

I love when the Republicans have to explain away their failures which are many and try to take false credit for the Democratic successes for our Nation. Just like when President Obama gave the orders to get the Osama Bin Laden. Everyone in the GOP tried to take false credit for the intel they gained from their illegal water boarding. Why didn't they properly use this intel if that were true? Or is it like the memo the GOP could not understand titled"Bin Laden To Strike US With Air Liners" that garnered zero response by the republicans leading to the greatest defeat our Nation has ever suffered in which over 3000 innocent people died? It is like when rom;ney tried to "take great credit for the success of saving the auto industry" this past Summer even though he recommended that Detroit be forced to go bankrupt and he believed so strongly that Detroit should be forced into bankruptcy that he paid out of his own pocket for three full page ads in the three most expensive newspapers in the US to tell the Nation that Detroit should be forced into bankruptcy and not saved. He also has zero authority in any decision making whatsoever yet somehow he "takes great credit for saving the auto industry." The Republican rule book: rule #1: blame your opponents for you misconduct. Rule #2 take credit for you r opponents successes. Rule #3: LIE, lie, lie.

The karl rove and his henchmen gang were behind the obviously disgusting portrayal of Mr. Kerry's wartime service. Not one of them fought anywhere, nor did Bush or Cheney nor this Mormon Mitt Romney. Mitt could have left Paris and volunteered at any time, but then we all know the rich do not like slogging around in rice paddy fields getting shot at by snipers or eating c-rations. Romney is a neophyte in the foreign relations field, and seems without backbone, nor does he feature his position. The POTUS got us out of Bushism's deadly and costly Iraq venture and is drawing down in that incredibly backward opium producing country of Afghanistan. he also got the bearded Saudi Osama, and has been knocking down a tone of militants with our use of the drones. Libya became free without our involvement, the Arab spring saw no US troops in harms way and we are bed with Israel making future decisions on Iran and using international involvement, rather than fighting stupid wars alone as the GOPers like to do.
